Greg chats with callers about how we know objective values exist and aren't a delusion, how to redirect someone who's on the wrong theological road, and how to navigate bringing apologetics to a church in a denomination that doesn't allow outside speakers. Topics: How do we know that objective moral values actually exist and we're not deluded by culture or evolution? (05:00) How can I stop someone from going down a wrong theological road and redirect them towards the right path? (32:00) As I bring apologetics to my church, how can I navigate the exclusivity of my denomination, which doesn't allow outside speakers? Today I'm joined by Director and Showrunner Nancy Schwartzman to discuss DEATH IN APARTMENT 603: WHAT HAPPENED TO ELLEN GREENBERG?The emotional and gripping docuseries investigates the mysterious death of Ellen Greenberg, a 27-year-old Philadelphia schoolteacher found dead in the apartment she shared with her fiancé on a snowy night in January 2011, just seven months before her upcoming wedding. Greenberg sustained 20 knife wounds and had 11 bruises on her body in various stages of healing. To the shock of many who knew her, detectives on the scene treated her death as a suicide; but when her autopsy results came back, her cause of death was ruled a homicide. Shortly thereafter, the manner of death was inexplicably reversed to suicide, and the city of Philadelphia shut the case without further investigation. Now, 14 years later, this three-part series exclusively follows Ellen's parents, Sandee and Josh Greenberg, as they fight to reopen the investigation and learn the truth about their daughter's untimely death. DEATH IN APARTMENT 603: WHAT HAPPENED TO ELLEN GREENBERG?features more than 20 new interviews with those who knew Greenberg best, including close friends, family members, and her former students and colleagues, painting a portrait of a warm, vibrant young woman who was planning her wedding and deeply loved by those who knew her. The docuseries also grants rare access to Greenberg's case file, including her fiancé's frantic 911 call, crime scene photos, autopsy analysis and surveillance footage. Additional new interviews include former neighbors and staff who were present in Greenberg's apartment building at the time of her death, a former colleague of her fiancé, and attorneys and law enforcement experts. The show delivers an intimate look into Greenberg's life and a probing examination of the cracks in the system that have left one haunting question unanswered: What really happened to Ellen Greenberg?Today's episode of the Following Films Podcast is brought to you by Google Workspace. When Pope Leo was elected on May 8, 2025, Archbishop Nelson Pérez was flying home to Philadelphia from Rome. Mid-flight, he got to share the historic news with his fellow passengers. In this episode, Archbishop Pérez reflects on Pope Leo's leadership style, his vision for the Church, and his awareness of the world's challenges—qualities that are inspiring Catholics everywhere to renew their witness to Christ's love and their commitment to making disciples. And yes, the new pope even has a Philly connection: he's a Villanova grad with a standing order from Wawa. We would love it if you could leave a written review on Apple and share with your friends! In this spooky Halloween short podcast episode, Bryan tells the story of the cooling tower killer: Legionnaires' disease. In the summer of 1976, the nation celebrated its bicentennial anniversary. The American Legion was holding its 58th annual convention at the Bellevue Stratford Hotel in Philadelphia, PA. In the days following the convention, doctors in Philadelphia started noticing dozens of Legionnaires in their hospitals with high fevers, chills, coughs, and difficulty breathing. Their symptoms resembled those of pneumonia, but patients deteriorated quickly, and antibiotics didn't work as expected. People became more ill, and 34 of them died. There were many theories, from food poisoning to novel viruses to bioterrorist attacks. The CDC investigated biological samples from patients and swabs from the hotel alike, but their findings were inconclusive. As news outlets sensationalized speculation over the cause of the illnesses, the disease was named after the unfortunate Legionnaires who suffered from it. However, the speculation would come to a close months later when CDC scientist Joseph McDade reviewed the samples and found a tiny, round-shaped bacterium living in the lung tissue of the victims. The bacteria would be named Legionella pneumophila. Investigators traced the bacteria back to the hotel's cooling towers. Cooling towers are essentially giant evaporative coolers and can create a mist. Legionella can thrive in the warm water of cooling towers, and the cooling towers dispersed the mist throughout the area, making hundreds ill. When water stagnates, bacteria can fester, but temperature is just as important as movement. As contractors, our maintenance procedures can save lives. In cooling towers, that maintenance entails regular cleaning, chemical treatment, and monitoring water temperature and flow. Have a question that you want us to answer on the podcast? October 28, 1895. It's the first day of a murder trial in Philadelphia, and H.H. Holmes has been left to represent himself. His lawyers say they haven't had time to prepare for his case, although they may just want to avoid defending the man some newspapers are already saying is “sure to grace a gallows.” Holmes has been accused of murdering his business associate, but rumors swirl that he may have killed dozens, even hundreds more. A century later, some still call him "America's first serial killer." But how did H.H. Holmes earn this reputation? And why is it so hard to learn the truth about this legendary fiend? Special thanks to Adam Selzer, author of H.H. Holmes: The True Story of the White City Devil, and Harold Schechter, professor emeritus of literature at Queens College and author of Depraved: The Shocking True Story of America's First Serial Killer. ** This episode originally aired October 25, 2021. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) said “I hear you” as the crowd chanted “tax the rich.” But following the rally, Hochul claimed she heard the crowd screaming “let's go Bills.” What!? Whatever you say… 3:55pm- NBC10 reporter Lauren Mayk confronted Mikie Sherrill over her outlandish claim that Jack Ciattarelli is responsible for the deaths of “tens of thousands of people” for being tangentially involved in marketing for pharmaceutical companies. President Trump has insisted construction will be privately funded, at no expense to the taxpayer. Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) implored future presidents to rename the ballroom after Barack Obama. Meanwhile, a former Congressman said that the next Democrat to hold the presidency should demolish the renovation! 5:30pm- While speaking with a BBC reporter, Kamala Harris said she won't rule out running for president again. On January 26, 2011, 27-year-old Ellen Greenberg left work early when a snowstorm hit Philadelphia. She stopped for gas on her way home, then spent the afternoon grading papers in the apartment she shared with her fiancé, Sam. That evening, Sam called 911 to report that he had found Ellen in the kitchen with a knife in her chest. She had been stabbed twenty times, including multiple wounds to the back of her head and neck. At first, the Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide. But weeks later, the ruling was changed to suicide, shocking many. Ellen's parents have spent more than a decade fighting that decision, convinced their daughter didn't take her own life, and that the truth about what happened to her is still being covered up. In this week's MBA Admissions podcast we began by discussing the current state of the MBA admissions season, with interview invites continuing to roll out. This week, Georgetown / McDonough is scheduled to release its Early Action decisions and Cornell / Johnson is scheduled to release its Round 1 interview invites. We also anticipate that MIT / Sloan will release its Round 1 interview invites. We then had a discussion on the H1-B visa situation, concluding that US MBA graduates residing in the USA may now be at an advantage, over those who apply for the visa from their home country. This is an ongoing and impactful situation for top MBA candidates. Graham highlighted next week's events being hosted by Clear Admit, concluding a series focused on MBA programs in different regions of the United States. Signups for all these events are here, https://www.clearadmit.com/events Graham also highlighted our next livestream AMA, which is scheduled for today, Monday, October 27; here's the link to Clear Admit's YouTube channel: https://bit.ly/cayoutubelive. Graham noted two recently published admissions tips. The first focuses on Wharton's Team-Based Interview; Wharton released its interview invites for Round 1 last week. The second focuses on developing a target program list, helpful for those applying in Round 2. He also shared a peek at some comments from a first year MBA student at Duke / Fuqua, as part of our ongoing Real Humans series. We then reviewed the Berkeley / Haas Class of 2026 profile, and the NYU / Stern Class of 2026 profile. Both declared slightly smaller class sizes, and a higher proportion of international students in the class. For this week, for the candidate profile review portion of the show, Alex selected three ApplyWire entries: This week's first MBA admissions candidate applied in Round 1 to a few programs and is now considering their Round 2 strategy. They have progressed from an analyst role to a product management role. This week's second MBA applicant is an investment banking analyst in the digital infrastructure domain. They have a 320 GRE, and we really hope they retake the test. The final MBA candidate is from Mexico and has a 685 GMAT score. Their overall profile does look strong, and they want to do investment banking in the short term, post MBA. This episode was recorded in Saratoga Springs, New York and Cornwall, England. It was produced and engineered by the fabulous Dennis Crowley in Philadelphia, USA. Thanks to all of you who've been joining us and please remember to rate and review this show wherever you listen!

TVC 711.2: Emmy Award-winning writer, producer, director, and author Joseph Dougherty (thirtysomething, Pretty Little Liars, The First Cylinder, Comfort and Joi, Rod Serling at 100) joins Ed, Tony, and Dan Farren for a roundtable discussion about some of our favorite local TV horror movie hosts—a staple of television that began in the late 1950s and continued into the 1980s and which, for many of us, was an indelible part of our growing-up years. Topics this segment include how the genre began circa 1958, when Universal released its entire library of horror movies from the 1930s and '40s to local TV stations; why part of the charm from these local TV productions comes from their threadbare production values; and the many ways in which John Zacherle (pictured) set the standard for local TV horror hosts, first in Philadelphia, then in New York.
How did Persian mythology seep into the texts of the Hebrew Bible? In this week's Biblical Time Machine, Helen and Lloyd are joined by Professor Mark Leuchter, who has recently argued that the 'dynastic myth-making' of the Persian Achaemenid rulers left its mark on Second Temple Jewish texts. Drawing on cognitive science, postcolonial theory, ancient letters and iconography, Mark guides us through the complex world of Persian myth-making and its effects on the Hebrew Bible. Mark Leuchter is Professor of Hebrew Bible and Ancient Judaism and Director of Jewish Studies at Temple University in Philadelphia. His publications include The Levites and the Boundaries of Israelite Identity (Oxford University Press, 2017) and more recently An Empire Far And Wide: The Achaemenid Dynastic Myth and Jewish Scribes in the Late Persian Period (Oxford University Press, 2024).
