On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we take a look at a lead character's striking resemblance to a West Bromwich Albion fan and Guardian columnist (see: the bust on this episode's cover art). We also take a look at the origins of a small, independent, Japanese developer called Capcom, and how these big fights actually happened IRL. Crazy, right? Here are some of the things you're gonna hear us chat about in our review: Dr. Otto Octavius as played by Alfred Molina; a surprising level of sophistication in relation to the sound you make and the guards can hear; Assassin's Creed social stealth; Hitman disguises and the multiple choice quiz you might have to take when someone's suspicious; holding items behind your back; being punished for not completing stealth sections in a very specific way; the pain of an accidental jog; connected environments to can creep around; picking up coins to furnish your flat; Dead Rising; the chaos of battles being you vs LOADS; the balancing act of both the nasty and the silly when it comes to the violence; the Salvos scoring system fitting the theme perfectly and encouraging you to try different weapons; another game that's just too long; Road Rash B.C. (otherwise known as Rome Rash); a difficulty that ramps up and up; escort missions from a certain era; a fake brother called Sextus; pointless chats with trainee gladiators; Yakuza / Like a Dragon; an engaging whodunnit around the assassination of Julius Caesar; Maecenas Oven Chips; a pacing problem; Gladiator II (and also The Pope's Exorcist); the majesty of Agrippa; and how Ryse: Son of Rome is probably the closest thing to a Shadow of Rome 2.After all that, we take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then we give you our final verdicts on whether Shadow of Rome is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Shadow of Rome on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS

Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Tis the season of warlords - there is no Republic anymore, nor is there Empire, there is only a land of warlords, picking over the carcass of what the great had once created.  This is it, this is where the fate of Rome is decided, does it fragment forever into the grubby hands of Antony, Sextus, Brutus and Cassius, or can the two twenty-somethings, Octavian and Agrippa, somehow find a way to thread the needle, and survive?

Welcome to Episode 208 of Lucretius Today. This is a podcast dedicated to the poet Lucretius, who wrote "On The Nature of Things," the most complete presentation of Epicurean philosophy left to us from the ancient world. Each week we walk you through the Epicurean texts, and we discuss how Epicurean philosophy can apply to you today. If you find the Epicurean worldview attractive, we invite you to join us in the study of Epicurus at EpicureanFriends.com, where you will find a discussion thread for each of our podcast episodes and many other topics. This week we continue our discussion of Book Two of Cicero's On Ends, which is largely devoted Cicero's attack on Epicurean Philosophy. Going through this book gives us the opportunity to review those attacks, take them apart, and respond to them as an ancient Epicurean might have done, and much more fully than Cicero allowed Torquatus, his Epicurean spokesman, to do. Follow along with us here: Cicero's On Ends - Complete Reid Edition. Check any typos or other questions against the original PDF which can be found here. This week we move continue in Section XVIII:XVIII. But suppose that a man who does some unprincipled act is not only crafty, but also all-powerful, as was M. Crassus (who nevertheless used to rely on his own form of good) and as at the present time our friend Pompeius is, to whom we must feel obliged for his upright conduct, since he might have been as wicked as he pleased, without fear. Again how many unjust deeds may be committed, which no man is permitted to blame! If a friend of yours on his death-bed asks you to hand over his property to his daughter, and does not record the fact anywhere, as Fadius did, nor mention it to any one, what will you do? You, personally, would hand it over; possibly Epicurus himself would; so Sextus Peducaeus, the son of Sextus, who has left behind him a son, our friend, in whom are mirrored his culture and his integrity; he being not only a scholar, but the best and most just of men, though no one knew that such a request had been made to him by Gaius Plotius, a Roman knight of distinction belonging to Nursia, yet did actually come to the lady, and explained to her the husband's commission, when she had no suspicion of it, and then handed over to her the property. But, as you assuredly would have acted in the same way, I put the question to you whether you do not see how the power of nature is exalted by the fact that you, who determine all your actions by your own convenience and your own pleasure, as you your- selves declare, do in spite of that so act as to make it plain that you are guided not by pleasure but by duty, and that natural uprightness has more influence with you than your perverted philosophy? If, says Carneades, you know that a snake is concealed somewhere and that some one, by whose death you will gain, is intending to sit down on it unawares, you will do a rascally action, if you do not warn him not to sit down. But still, you would not be punished, for who could prove that you knew? But I am too diffuse, since it is clear that unless equity, faith and justice spring from nature, and if all these virtues be estimated by interest, a good man cannot anywhere be discovered, and enough has been said about this matter by Laelius in my volume about the commonwealth.

On this episode of Analog Smile, Sherry speaks with Tim Smith (The Lickerish Quartet, Sheryl Crow, Umajets, Jellyfish, etc.). Ex-Jellyfish members Roger Joseph Manning Jr. (Beck, Air, Cheap Trick, Imperial Drag), Tim Smith (Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, The Finn Brothers, Sheryl Crow, Umajets) and Eric Dover (Imperial Drag, Slash's Snakepit, Alice Cooper, Sextus)—released their third and final child, Threesome Volume 3, May 20, 2022 on Stranger Danger Records and Tapes, distributed by Burnside and the Orchard in the U.S. and by Lojinx in the U.K. and Europe. It's available now on digital outlets and on the band's official website. Threesome Volume 3 makes its way into the world via remote writing, recording, and mixing. The challenges we've all faced these last years forced Roger, Eric and Tim to finalize this EP through a series of emails, and phone calls. Home recording studios were redesigned and outfitted to complete the final four songs that were originally written together in 2017. Threesome Volume 3 completes the trilogy started with the release of Threesome Volume 1 in 2020, which was called a “masterpiece” by many critics and fans alike. Threesome Volume 2 was released in early 2021, and its first single, “Snollygoster Goon,” showed another side of the band and its versatility as writers, singers and musicians. “Fortunately,” the EP's first single and video, is a bouncy tune sung by Tim Smith that drips with the signature harmonies and melodic structures The Lickerish Quartet have been known for, alongside a deeper, darker lyric that speaks to the universal ideas of heaven, hell, dogma and belief. As a co-write with their executive producer, Adam W. James, Eric's slide guitar soloing, Roger's keyboards and string arrangement, and Tim's melodic bass lines combine for the listener to perhaps harken back to early FM radio hits of the ‘70s. “New Days” was released as the second single and video on April 22. As sung by Roger, it's a tale of remembering the past with the longing psychedelic hope of the future. Eric's lyric touches pastoral images of optimistic youth and shaping moments with the desire to keep moving forward, onward, and probably westward. Lush reverb guitars, grooving bass and drums with evolving vocal harmonies celebrate the hope we all share for new beginnings. “You All Alone” starts with a jarring string ensemble as Eric's lead vocal then weaves a story of obsession and pursuit. Jagged drums and bass, razor wire guitars and another excellent string arrangement by Roger leads our hero towards satisfaction, but at what cost? Who is the hunter, and who is the hunted? “In The Meantime” rounds out the EP. Sung by Tim, the song ponders where do YOU go when you are feeling the crush of a world you no longer recognize? Topical, but also timeless, “In The Meantime” proffers to float rather than sink or swim. The theme of burying down deep is married to a pulsing, shouting wall of guitar sound and fury, but with a non-violent narrative. Those most precious things that bring us happiness--to love someone, do something, or have something to hope for--are sung about with fearlessness. They continue to engage with their fans via their website and “Experiences”--a series of collaborative connections of writing together with folks, performing on songs submitted to the band, personalized songs and messages, lessons in songwriting and production, as well as numerous Zoom-hosted breakdowns of their songs in-studio followed by a Q&A with the fans about the process, choices made, and equipment used to create their music. Meanwhile, Sony Japan recently partnered with them to release all three EPs on June 29, as a collection entitled Fables From Fearless Heights, which will include two previously unheard cover songs, as well as a special “best of” vinyl LP in that region. Sherry and Tim chat about The Lickerish Quartet's new EP and much more! Please visit thelickerishquartet.com for more information.

Ongoing tensions between the members of the band would lead to constant delays in new material and the future of the band in limbo. After auditioning over 40 others, the job went to former Jellyfish member Eric Dover. It was an unlikely hiring considering Eric was a backing vocalist with Jellyfish. But, after an impassioned audition and showing he had the songwriting chops to hang with him, Slash offered him the job. The resulting album 'It's Five O'Clock Somewhere' is a lean, mean slab of bluesy rock n' roll featuring blistering vocals and Slash's identifiable guitar tone and solos.Eric Dover shares his memories of his time with Slash's Snakepit for this special Albums Unleashed episode; from his audition to the songwriting and recording process to the tour for the album. There's a lot of great stories in this chat that give you a behind the scenes look at what Eric went through during this time. Skeptikerna – filosoferna som vägrade filosofera

OBS

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 31, 2022 9:47

Men tvivlet gnager ständigt. Vincent Flink Amble-Naess

For additional notes and resources check out Douglas' website.“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 7:12). CommentThis sentence sums up much of what Jesus has been teaching in the Sermon on the Mount, i.e. the ethical parts of Matt 5-6.God is good to us, a loving Father. We too should reflect his divine love. This verse is called the Golden Rule. Whereas the Golden rule says Do unto others…, the Silver rule only says Don't do unto others…Early Christians frequently paraphrase the Golden Rule both in the positive form and the negative form (e.g. Romans 13:10; Didache 1.2; Origen, Commentary on Romans 2.9.1.)While the Golden Rule implies the Silver Rule, the Silver Rule does not imply the Golden Rule. The Golden Rule embraces all of Jesus' teachings about loving our neighbor, and Jesus gave both positive commands and negative commands. For example, we are not to be angry or to insult others. We are not to lust or desire someone else's spouse. Nobody likes being physically, emotionally or verbally abused. No one wants to be slandered, cheated, assaulted, or robbed. To hurt others is hardly praiseworthy—it's the minimum standard of human decency! The Silver Rule is much easier to follow than the Golden Rule. The Silver Rule is already written in the hearts of all humans (Rom 2:15).Chrysostom: “Jesus signifies that morality is concise, easy, and readily known to all men.” Homilies on Matthew 23.6.Examples of the Silver & Golden Rules in the world's philosophies and religionsExamples of the Silver & Golden Rules in the world's philosophies and religions:Jainism: “A man should wander about treating all creatures as he himself would be treated.” — Sutrakritanga, 1.11.33 [Golden Rule]Seneca the Younger: "Treat your inferior as you would wish your superior to treat you.” [form of the Golden Rule]Islam: “A bedouin came to the prophet, grabbed the stirrup of his camel and said: O the messenger of God! Teach me something to go to heaven with it. The Prophet said: ‘As you would have people do to you, do to them; and what you dislike to be done to you, don't do to them. Now let the stirrup go!'" — Kitab al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 146. [Golden Rule and Silver Rules]. Although such sayings may be genuine, these hadith are not found in the Qur'an, which does not feature the Golden Rule.Buddhism: “Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful.”— Udanavarga 5:18 [Silver Rule]Confucius: “Never impose on others what you would not choose for yourself.” — Analects XV.24 [Silver Rule]Zoroastrianism: “Do not do unto others whatever is injurious to yourself.” — Shayast-na-Shayast 13.29 [Silver Rule]Old Testament Apocrypha: “Do to no one what you yourself dislike.” — Tobit 4:15 [Silver Rule]Hillel: “What is hateful to you, do not to your neighbor: that is the whole Torah; the rest is commentary; go and learn it.” — Shabbat 31a (Babylonian Talmud) [Silver Rule]Sextus: "What you do not want to happen to you, do not do it yourself either. " — Sextus the Pythagorean. [Weak form of the Silver Rule]Mahabharata: One should never do that to another which one regards as injurious to one's own self. This, in brief, is the rule of dharma. Other behavior is due to selfish desires. — Mahābhārata, Shānti-Parva 167:9 [Silver Rule]The medical principle: “Do no harm.” [Silver Rule]Christianity: So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets (Matthew 7:12).A Proactive Rule:“Jesus' Golden Rule is unique in that it requires positive action. The Golden Rule not only requires us to refrain from doing to others what we would not have done to us, but also to proactively do to others what we would want done to us. It is not enough that we do not harm others. We also must actively be doing good things to our neighbor. Jesus not only calls on us to turn the other cheek, but also to be peacemakers and to love our enemies. We must pray for those who persecute us, give to the poor, and forgive others. All of these are the outworking of love.”—David BercotAs one commentator has pointed out, "The Golden Rule [is] just eleven words; by contrast, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, the U.S. government's attempt to oblige ethical character into the financial statements of American corporations, has eleven titles (major sections). It is one of the most complicated pieces of legislation in the history of the American republic and, in the economies of scale, places a disproportionate burden on small companies which were not the cause of the adoption." (Richard David Ramsey, "Business Ethics in the Sermon on the Mount," Leaven: A Journal of Christian Ministry (Pepperdine University), vol.16, no.4, Fourth Quarter 2009. How convoluted are human attempts to exact honesty and fairness! How simple is the command Jesus gave us!In short, the Golden Rule is more easily repeated than followed.Next: Narrow

Skepticism has woven its way throughout the entire history of philosophy... and yet as a formal school of thought it was (and still is) fairly niche and unknown. Why is that? What does Skepticism REALLY entail? And what can we learn from the remaining Skeptic works (of which there are so few) that can help us bridge our political divides? Richard Bett, Professor of Philosophy and Classics at Johns Hopkins University and author of How to Keep an Open Mind: An Ancient Guide to Thinking Like a Skeptic discusses the pros and cons of  Sextus' Empiricus, the only Greek Skeptic whose work has survived. We'll delve into how exactly can ancient skepticism help you attain tranquility by learning to suspend judgment.... Meanwhile, Hank Barrien at The Daily Wire reported yesterday 'Seizing on U.S. Weakness, China Warns Taiwan U.S. Will Not Defend Them.' This week we dig deep into our culture and the stories we tell or chose not to tell. Women in the stories of early Rome were there but are almost absent in the teaching of its founding. Is it possible it's because rape permeates these stories? Would talking about rape and the historic examples allow us to address the present challenges presented by these topics? We learn about the kidnapping and rapes of women at the outset of the Kingdom of Rome and Lucretias rape at the hands of Sextus to end the Regal Period. Women were always there, you just have to be brave enough to teach it. Watch out, debunkers, weirdos are on the march to reclaim the banner of skepticism! In this session, Dane sits down with Dr. Everett Fulmer, a professor of philosophy and expert on the history and philosophy of skepticism, to discuss what it REALLY means to be a skeptic. As Dr. Fulmer explains, traditionally, skeptics were profound thinkers who discovered  compelling reasons for doubting the very possibility of humans ever acquiring certain knowledge. These free spirits developed razor-sharp arguments that challenge the Enlightenment view of rationality as the one true path to objective truth, even to this day. Tracing the roots of skepticism to Plato's Academy and the struggle against the ancient Stoics, Dr. Fulmer outlines the personal stories and public beliefs of history's greatest skeptics – from a man with the unfortunate first name “Sextus,” to an Italian monk who was executed after publicizing warnings about the apocalypse. The second half of the show explores the risks and benefits of skepticism for lovers of the strange and unexplained: Is skepticism the key to tranquility? Can we doubt the material world's existence without getting run over by that truck in which we refuse to believe? Could it help UFOtwitter chill out? Or will skepticism plunge those who study it into madness? If you dabble with weird ideas and turn away from mushy thinking, then this session will be red meat for you. We think through the philosophy of universal doubt in an episode that could make you question not just whether you ever knew anything about skepticism, but whether you have ever known ANYTHING at all!

Elandra Meredith: NZ’s Tall Poppy Syndrome. Why is withholding Love & Appreciation Seen as a Virtue?

New Zealand as a small island nation, being so far from other countries stands out - alone. Once a pioneer country pushing the boundaries of social change, science and physical acumen - it has also remained at another level comfortably numb and this interview addresses - to a degree, how could this be?     Elandra, NZer  author of “From Stardom to Wisdom: Healing & Love Beyond the Spotlight”, and upcoming book “Voices & Visions of Our New Earth”, is an  international health and healing educator trainer and practitioner. She was a top Auckland University scholar, international prizewinning dancer, model  and actress who went on to a career including co-starring with Roger Moore and Tony Curtis in London’s Hollywood. Deeply unhappy  at University she frequently contemplated suicide; her longing for transcendent wisdom was met with academic intellectualism and  “tall poppy syndrome”. Later as a movie actress in the world of celebrity, fame and fortune she was horrified by her experience of the exploitation and addiction to money and power. Turning her life to yoga and spirituality, dressed in white, running a Californian ashram yoga center for 20 years, she again experienced how giving away  power  – in this case to spiritual devotion –  encourages the dark side of cults and spiritual leaders and gurus, for whom power corrupts, as they turn into self-aggrandizing power-hungry predators,  who get away with betraying, exploiting,  and abusing  hundreds of thousands. After finding soul family in immersion in the Aloha Ho’oponopono Healing shamanism of Hawaii, her mission became clear; to expose how power corrupts, and to  encourage the choice for a life of purification of character – (rather than the lust for fame and fortune), leading to our culture’s addiction to the multiplication of wants and  toxic success.   She has a message for you today about the urgent need in NZ to begin to heal, once and for all, the Tall Poppy Syndrome. Elandra's opening statement expresses overwhelming thanks and appreciation of what I (Tim) do as a host of GreenplanetFM, which catches me off guard and places me in a humble position…As an elder of our society feeling her graciousness, I reflect that this kind of acknowledgement is exactly what is needed for all of us,  to open the heart connection, to make us feel validated, and to feel part of a warmer and greater whole; a true  family and community that is welcoming and totally  supportive of each other. So what is the Tall Poppy Syndrome and where did the term come from? It’s actually a shocking story. The specific reference to poppies occurs in Livy's account of the tyrannical Etruscan king, Lucius Tarquinius Superbus. He is said to have received a messenger from his son Sextus Tarquinius asking what he should do next in Gabii, since he had become all-powerful there. Rather than answering the messenger verbally, Tarquin went into his garden, took a stick, and symbolically swept it across his garden, thus cutting off the heads of the tallest poppies that were growing there. The messenger, tired of waiting for an answer, returned to Gabii and told Sextus what he had seen. Sextus realised that his father wished him to put to death all of the most eminent people of Gabii, which he then did! Tragically what the Tall Poppy Syndrome has morphed into today especially here in NZ is that we have in many ways 'ducked for cover' and quietly put our head down to do life in a quieter 'kiwi way' - of not standing out, and worse still, making sure no one else stands out - through what has become an ingrained habit of justifying the heavy utilization of criticism and bullying in school and workplace. And worse, even viewing it as a virtue. Other than in the sporting environment, or in cases where somebody is famous, we remain subdued, and do not express appreciation for others, nor stand up for the virtues and values that most civil societies stand for. This means that anyone wanting to excel may want to choose to leave NZ for overseas pastures, or may descend into despair and depression (leading to NZ’s highest suicide rate in the world for youth and over 60).  There is no one to talk to; vital emotional support from family, community and society as a whole is non-existent or invisible. Elandra mentions coming into Auckland Airport terminal every year (for over 25 years) and feeling this heavy contractive energy - of unshed tears, deep sorrow - (I Tim, when I was a steward for Air NZ returning from the US, be it LAX or Honolulu also really felt this constrictive and constraining energy when coming home - it was very heavy) but I did not mention this in the interview - because it was not about me! She talks about  why NZ has the highest suicide rate for youth and over 60 years of age in the world. She talks about suppressed feelings,  held back deep grief and underlying anger that has not been (consciously) expressed and, with no place to share, unshed tears with no place to safely flow. Of course the biggest picture perspective of all is that we live in a patriarchal society, an authoritarian driven society, where we are basically at war within ourselves through not valuing inner knowingness, inner authority and inner trust. But the world’s Zeitgeist is and must be changing. We have no choice now but to learn to value the indigenous ways of the honoring of the Earth, Nature, and intuition. We all had ancestors who knew how to live in harmony with the Earth and Stars…   In many ways - like the previous weeks interview of Paul Levy - the "Wetiko Virus" has taken hold of the general consensus here, the result being a major sense of lack of societal leadership by NZers in this country. Many even defer to others who have moved from overseas to now live here. Wetiko (Native American term for dark energy) is a mind virus that has in various degrees become surreptitiously installed in us all.  Having done so it manifests as the “inner critic” that puts you down within yourself, and that in turn causes you to put other people down. Which erodes your self-esteem causing you to then also hide and shun friends.    Elandra describes how in the process of healing her inner critic certain words came to her and she in shock wondered where they came from ... these sneering words inside saying - "You will never write your book,  Elandra – you’ve been trying for 30 years - just give up,  you pathetic woman. Why don't you just dig a hole and go die!" So she wrote these words down, and she looked at them closely and then these words she heard - fell away - because - this mind virus - does not want its existence to be seen and acknowledged. Let alone going public by sending it to 800 people in a group! By overcoming the desire to remain ‘private’ it worked, now she has a voice inside that never says anything negative about herself and instead cheers her on saying "I love you Elandra”. Tall Poppy Syndrome causes us to withhold love as well as withhold its expression - she says that in NZ withholding Love, and appreciation and expression has become a virtue! She sees this as the most insidious thing that is happening in this country, this is now "a very NZ thing!" There is also a sense of inferiority in the NZ psyche, plus defensiveness, making it difficult to mention these things…  She says we have to change this attitude and fast.  So first we have to recognize it.  Also, Elandra tells of her counselor friends having young people (and all ages), show up exclaiming – “I don’t know who I am anymore!”  They have no real authentic role models – just films, pop idols etc.  This in spite of also the wonderful people in NZ  and those who do work with love to help people in despair etc. Listen... This interview broaches much subject matter. She talks about the USA being not one country but 50 countries all different from each other! They are called states but are 50 countries in ONE!  and these, each one, is mostly  far bigger than NZ – so how can you even compare?!  So with the reflection of this vast geography  there is a sense of  vast space, space and room  to expand your psyche and consciousness  (I concur),  and your  heart is big, ‘cos it has more room - and so she says that the Americans generally support the expansiveness of expression and the heart (Tim having lived there twice - I concur) So in USA it is different,  wanting to stand out is celebrated, supported, applauded and lauded!  In NZ growing up feelings were not really in our vocabulary – most of us as children did not have parents who addressed  feelings - (I Tim, didn't know there was a different between thinking and feeling - I was unknowingly brought up that way). Parents are afraid of their children’s expression of pain and anger and will shut them up fast. Hear Elandra talk on 'when we were babies and tots' many of us when crying were not really supported and were told to keep quiet and close off to how we felt – listen In NZ it is the status quo normal to suppress feelings, especially ones deemed negative. This means that speaking out your truth is not done. Withholding expression of truth of feelings – from self and others, (whether negative or positive), is highly dangerous to your health, indeed a cause and catalyst for many kinds of health dysfunctions.  It is actually taboo in NZ to be on talking about or expressing feelings, (I Tim concur). Especially about talking about suicide...  There is also distrust of mental health and going to psychologists etc. and understandably ... because they are not trained with a full holistic knowingness of the human condition - they are in most cases all intellectualizing.  Remembering that 'Psyche' in Psychology and Psychiatrist means Soul in ancient Greek…but not fully recognized today.  As an intuitive professional healer of over 35 years Elandra notices that psychologists in most cases are untrained to track where your pain or condition and feelings are - in your body. The conditions for healing to happen - safety and sacredness - need to be honored, and then the psyche/body can reveal itself, and can speak out.  The body actually reflects – it actually IS - the subconscious, and when “the field” is held with no agenda the body will reveal to the consciousness and soul what is happening and needed for healing. Then soul retrieval, coming back to balance and wholeness just happens, easily.  Once we recognize these locked up feelings then we can deal with them – speak them out loud when alone, even shouting into a pillow – for natural  release and natural healing...Plus having someone to support you just by listening,  (with no agenda to fix heal and save)  just BEING THERE, presencing, that is a huge plus.  Listen - how Elandra takes someone through a healing session...  So there is a cure!  Since tall poppy does not like to be seen, acknowledging it openly is the cure ... and the beginning of healing. The more we let it be seen, let our vulnerabilities show, get together with people and talk and share love, the more the wetiko virus loses its grip.  Elandra states that she has been a victim of 'Tall Poppy Syndrome' many times. But, by  hearing the inner voice saying to herself  'I love you Elandra' - this statement validated her and her heart to such a degree that it allowed her to raise herself above victimhood and feeling incapable and unacknowledged and seeing herself in a positive light. She says this is one way with dealing with not being able to cope etc. The continuous daily expression of love - is very important - Listen... We have to love and appreciate each other. It's also so much about bigger interconnection, intimate and honest connection within the family and with neighbors and the greater community. Acknowledge it! Address it, talk, feel feelings, share freely what works to heal this insidious cutting down mindset!  Rise up the spirit with continuous daily expression of love, appreciation and praise to everyone around you!  Empower love, big love called “awakened oneness awareness”, founded in authentic feelings and utmost integrity.  The battle for self-love is for most of us the greatest battle we ever undertake, “the longest journey you will ever take is from your head to your heart” - because if we have no self-love (confidence and assuredness) - then we are a shrinking violet and some could say 'a victim.' But when we can accept and get inside ourselves and end up embracing all aspects of self, we can experience true love for ourselves (warts and all) – and then we generate an inner glow - our inner candle and this is when we become empowered and have a certain felt knowingness that we are more connected inside. Then we feel the oneness with our greater selves belonging to and part of nature and the greater world, plus the infinite dimensions that we are essentially immersed in.  So we are more at peace within our skin and we are more self-confident and inner directed - because we are coming from an empowered loving inner self. This allows us to provide selfless service to those in need, and helping people expands your sphere of goodwill, and provides and spreads great joy. Which is the ultimate antidote to tall poppy, embracing it all within big love and joy!   healthhealing.org   NEXT WEEK'S INTERVIEW Glen Atkinson: Taking us to another realm Glen states that: ASTROLOGY IS A FACT OF PHYSICS The global elite who control the world wide media use the media to put down astrology at every turn, Yet, behind our backs the elite will always draw up a chart when their babies are born whilst the elders will always check their chart or their countries chart before going to war or making a large incursion into a market, or change of government etc. We have entered a new paradigm and ‘it’s a shake down trip.’ Old outmoded viewpoints are being superseded as we boldly enter the Aquarian Age. As Nikola Tesla once stated. “The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence.”

In this episode we journey to ancient Rome. In 81 BCE, a  wealthy old man was stabbed to death on the streets of Rome. It appeared to be a random attack ,at least initially . Not long after, his only son was charged in a Roman court with patricide, the heinous crime of killing his own father. Facing a horrendous punishment if convicted and shunned by the established lawyers in Rome , he turned to a 26 year old neophyte named Marcus Tullius Cicero to act as his advocate. The explosive facts brought out by Cicero during the trial would shake the foundation of the Roman government. It would also mark Cicero as a man to be reckoned with in Roman politics.

Thank you for joining me today on Spei Lumina — Light’s of Hope.  Today I think you are in for a treat as we have a deeper look at the Gnostic scriptures as we explore The Sentences of Sextus.  I recently read the text and was amazed with how deeply some of the statements spoke to my soul in this age that we live in where some political and national leaders have no qualms about stifling the truth and spreading lies as truth.  Where they have no qualms about name calling and harassing those who disagree with them and call them out on their lies.  Where they identify themselves with titles that are so contrary to their actions and out right blasphemous to believers. One of the reasons why I started this podcast is because of the actions and lies and misleadings of some of our leaders and the reactionary energetic their out right lies and deceptive actions stirred within me.  Maybe you’ve felt the same things too.  Maybe you have friends who are so reactionary and seeking all means to vote out our leaders even if it means stooping to the same vitriol and polarity and fear mongering that political leaders on the opposite spectrum from them stoop to. The Sentences of Sextus admonishes the listener to love the truth, to avoid deceiving others, to seek Wisdom, and how to stay grounded in the Divine light energy that heals, reveals and appeals to the soul to always seek higher ideals. I hope you enjoy the imaginal prayer exercise that follows based on the sentences from The Sentences of Sextus that spoke to my soul the most.  I am using the translation by Frederik Wisse.

What if I were to tell you that everything you know is wrong? What if I told you that the story you know is a system of control made up by people who want to keep you from the one real truth: The Matrix lacks a clear message on the problem of skepticism. On its own, it's kind of a confused mess of messaging. We dive into this issue, starting with a discussion of Plato's allegory of the cave and moving through Sextus Empiricus into the modern epistemic crisis we face. Capitulum 41-43: Germani trans Rhenum sese recipiunt.
