If you've ever caught yourself wondering, "Am I good enough? Lovable enough? Worthy enough?"... this episode is for you. Today, I'm diving into the powerful difference between external and internal validation, and how learning to validate yourself is the key to breaking free from codependency, people-pleasing, and enmeshment. When we rely on others to tell us who we are, we lose touch with our true selves. But when we start building that validation from within, everything changes: our confidence, our sense of worth, and the way we move through the world. In this episode, I share: How codependency develops when we seek our worth outside of ourselves Simple ways to practice self-validation every day Why internal validation becomes even more essential as we age How celebrating your small wins rewires your brain and boosts self-worth This episode is all about bringing it home. Finding your value from within and learning to celebrate the beautifully unique human you already are. ✨ Ready to deepen your connection with yourself? Donate (no account necessary) | Subscribe (account required) Join Bryan Dean Wright, former CIA Operations Officer, as he dives into today's top stories shaping America and the world. In this episode of The Wright Report, Bryan breaks down what fueled Democrats' big election wins, the White House response to those losses, and why the GOP is now divided over whether to end the Senate filibuster. We'll also cover a plane crash in Kentucky, Europe's migrant gang crisis, China's backtracking on trade promises, and good news from the world of medicine. Election Aftermath and the GOP Divide: Republicans are blaming blue states for this week's Democratic sweep, but Vice President JD Vance says the problem is deeper — working-class voters are frustrated with slow economic progress. Bryan agrees, warning that without action on wages, housing, and immigration, low-propensity MAGA voters will stay home in 2026. White House Strategy and Filibuster Fight: Trump is pushing GOP senators to scrap the filibuster so his economic agenda can pass with a simple majority. Some Republicans refuse, but others warn that Democrats will eventually do it anyway. Bryan says, "If the GOP waits too long, America could wake up with Marxist mayors becoming its presidents." Migrant Crime Spreads in Europe: Norway is facing bombings and assassinations linked to North African and Middle Eastern migrant gangs spreading from Sweden. Police say children as young as ten are being recruited for contract killings — some even hired by Iran. Bryan warns, "This is what happens when immigration policy abandons common sense." Gaza's Tunnel Stalemate: Dozens of Hamas fighters are trapped in their own tunnels and begging Israel for mercy. Trump and Arab partners are urging Israel to show compassion, while Jerusalem insists the militants must surrender or face the consequences. China Backtracks on Soybean Deal: Beijing is quietly reinstating tariffs that make U.S. soybeans less competitive, undermining its trade pledges with Trump. Farmers are waiting to see if Xi Jinping will keep his word or walk away from the agreement entirely. Medical Breakthroughs — Schizophrenia and Wound Healing: British researchers discovered that the common antibiotic doxycycline may reduce schizophrenia risk by up to 35 percent. Meanwhile, University of Pennsylvania scientists found that rosemary compounds help wounds heal faster with less scarring.   "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:32     Keywords: 2025 election results Democrats sweep, JD Vance working-class voters economy, Trump filibuster repeal GOP divide, Norway migrant gangs Foxtrot Rumba Iran, Hamas Gaza tunnel standoff, China soybean tariffs trade deal, doxycycline schizophrenia study UK, rosemary wound healing University of Pennsylvania

By now, you've probably heard that Democrats won big across the country last night. From Governor and Lt. Governor in Virginia to Proposition 50 in California to school boards and city councils across the country, the people made their voices heard. And some of the biggest swings, especially in Virginia, were amongst suburban women. This win goes far beyond the races that were on the ballot last night. This is a win for every American who wants to preserve democracy, common sense, and decency.Ever since the devastating losses in 2024, we've been saying “when they go low, we go local.” Some people were skeptical — how could “going local” stop ICE from invading our cities? Or Trump from cutting food stamps for children? But it was about planting seeds. Those seeds have already grown into some pretty incredible results… who knows what our harvest in 2026 or 2028 will look like? The work doesn't end, but we all deserve a little rest. In fact, we deserve to rest and celebrate! So let's take a moment and feel all the feelings. Let's thank someone who worked on a campaign or turned out their friends to vote. Today reminds us what's possible. Even in the face of all the darkness this year has brought, we can shine our own light. And when we shine together, there's no stopping us.We'll be sharing more wins and inspiring stories over the coming weeks. But when you think about it, an anagram isn't just play. It's a way of making a thing out of something else entirely. A way of seeing—and creating—other possibilities. A way of containing multitudes.” Celebrate the power of poems with a gift to The Slowdown today. Every donation makes a difference: https://tinyurl.com/rjm4synp

In this experimental therapy-format episode,  Zach meets with a couple, 16 years into marriage, parenting two adopted, neurodivergent kids, and living abroad, to model what real therapeutic work sounds like. The wife names “the mother machine” as the force grinding her down: menopause, recent moves, ongoing renovations, executive-function challenges, and hyper-empathy that makes parenting especially taxing. The husband longs for renewed connection and shared fun, and admits to a lifelong pattern of shelving his own needs while rationally “handling” crises. Zach frames the work around three questions: What do you want?  What's in the way?  How do we work on what's in the way? They confront the tempting but flawed idea that “if we fix one partner, we fix the marriage.” With candor and care, they explore grief, desire, changing bodies, and culture-shock; the need for boundaries (including a “pass rule”); and Zach's three-year relationship cycles lens. The conversation lands on a hopeful truth: you can't magic back year-one chemistry, but you can adapt, plant new trees, and intentionally build intimacy for the season you're in. Key Takeaways Name the real obstacle, not the scapegoat “Fixing” one partner doesn't fix a marriage; the work is defining what you want, what's in the way, and tackling those obstacles together. The “mother machine” is realMenopause, moves, neurodivergent parenting, and hyper-empathy create sustained overwhelm that crowds out self-care and couple time. Grief and expectation both live here The husband grieves the imagined dad life (beach, bikes, sailing) and asks for shared play and energy; the wife wants legitimacy for how hard this season truly is. Three-year cycles require adaptation Long-term relationships evolve in cycles; thriving couples re-design intentionally every few years instead of coasting on year-one dynamics. Body autonomy and shame need careful handling The wife resists any narrative that her body must change to make the marriage “work,” naming past control and current shame as triggers. Patterns under pressure The husband tends to detach feelings, get hyper-rational, and become the “sacrificial lamb”; the wife over-identifies with others' feelings and floods. Celebrate the 52% while tending the rest Zach urges maximizing what's working now, rather than only grieving what isn't, especially in harder seasons. Containers beat loops Without structure, they “circle” the same arguments. Boundaried conversations and the “pass rule” create safety and traction. I've always emphasized the beauty and sustainability of small daily habits for self-improvement. But occasionally, our self-care journey demands a more significant leap to reboot our personal development. On this episode I shared how my recent solo trip to London was a radical act of self-care for me. It's essential to recognize that personal growth and development sometimes require us to stretch beyond our comfort zones, reminding ourselves of our own self-worth and the importance of self-care. These experiences, whether starting daily habits or planning an adventure abroad, define how to stop being a perfectionist and enrich our journeys toward how to feel happy. So, my call to you is straightforward: consider your own big step in self-care—it's time to reclaim, reconnect, and embrace your true self. Scott Galloway has spent the last few years ringing the alarm about how boys and young men are falling behind. Galloway, a marketing professor at New York University, best-selling author, and Kara's ‘Pivot' co-host, says his concern stems from the fact that he can relate to their problems. As a young boy raised by a single mom, Scott struggled in school, didn't have many friends, and barely got into college. But he went on to found several successful marketing firms, make millions, and raise two sons of his own. He shares his story — and his own advice on how to be a good man — in his new book, “Notes on Being a Man.” Kara and Scott talk about how the Trump campaign was able to win over young men with its regressive version of masculinity, why he thinks we need to re-embrace young men's horniness, and why more men need to step up as mentors. They also talk about Scott's difficult relationship with his late father, and the ways he's trying to be a better father to his sons.  Check out our sponsor Smartsheet here! Questions? Comments? A Prior “Independence Day Devotional” as We Prepare to Celebrate Again - We Must Have a Great Spiritual Awakening that Returns America to God MESSAGE SUMMARY: Will you "Stand in the Gap" and participate in a Great Awakening and Spiritual Renewal in America? The signers of the Declaration of Independence, in 1776, began a revolution which led to the formation of the United States of America. This Revolution was rooted in the belief that all people are subject to the rule of God, even the King; and leaders are not above man's law or God's Law. Also, everyone is endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights. Many people have tried to deny that America's founders created a country which wove together the concept of self-governance with Christian principles. Now, it appears the focus, of many political and church leaders, is to eliminate ideas, laws, policies, and objects that relate America to Christianity, the Bible, or anything that smacks of God. Today, this focus away from God is succeeding. We all need to hear what our founders said regarding America's Christian base. Not long after the enactment of the Constitution in the late 1700s, morality and church attendance declined drastically into a Spiritual Depression. The answer to this 1700s turn away from God became the nationwide implementation of "Concerts of Prayer", across all Christian denominations, which led to an American Spiritual Awakening. Today, through our actions, laws, and cultural revisions of our founding Christian principles, we have told God that we do not want Him around. Therefore, we must consider what God said He would do and what He has done in the past when people have turned away from Him, as told in Psalms 2:1-2,5,10-12: “Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed . . . Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying . . .  Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.". In the past, as indicated in Psalms 2, God has withdrawn His presence, including His protection and divine wisdom, when people have turned away from Him. God's presence has guided America for so many years, and the withdrawal of God's presence in America would leave us to reap the consequences of our focus away from Him. Also, consider what the Lord said, in Ezekiel 22:30-31: "And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none. Therefore, I have poured out my indignation upon them. I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath. I have returned their way upon their heads, declares the Lord God.”. However, in Zechariah 1:3 and in many other promises throughout the Bible, God says to his people in the past and to us today: “Therefore say to them, Thus declares the LORD of hosts: ‘Return to me', says the LORD of hosts, ‘and I will return to you', says the LORD of hosts.". Will you "Stand in the Gap”, on behalf of your country, to participate in and lead a Great Awakening and Spiritual Renewal in America by returning America to God? We must have a Spiritual Awakening to return America to God.   TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, I come this day inviting you to cut those deeply entrenched chains that keep me from being faithful to my true self in Christ. In doing so, may my life be a blessing to many. In Jesus' name, amen.      Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 44). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Anger. Rather, I will abide in the Lord's Forgiveness. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). Today's poem is Night of the Living, Night of the Dead by Kim Addonizio. The Slowdown is your daily poetry ritual. In this episode, Maggie writes… “It might surprise you to know that one of my favorite genres is the zombie movie. I like my zombies fast, like in ‘Train to Busan' and ‘28 Days Later,' and I like my zombies slow, like in the old classics directed by George Romero. In ‘Night of the Living Dead,' the zombies shamble so slowly, people can run right by them. They seem unable to figure out doorknobs and fence latches and cars. It's black-and-white, so the gore isn't that gory: the blood and guts are gray, after all! It's still scary, though—because the zombies are seemingly uncontainable. They just keep coming at you. Today's poem has been a favorite of mine for years, and it seemed like the right choice for Halloween.” Celebrate the power of poems with a gift to The Slowdown today.
