— Whether you're meeting potential partners on an app or in the wild, experiencing butterflies or unpleasant signs of nervousness is common before a date. Thankfully, there are ways that these feelings can be managed. The pandemic has put the dating scene on pause but once the physical distancing restrictions are lifted, singles can resume their search for love. To help you re-enter the realm of dating with confidence, psychotherapist Julie Chang offers some insight into how singles can cope with first date jitters and anxiety. Valeria Teles interviews Julie Chang — She is Vancouver-Based Mental-Health Clinician And Speaker Julie is a practitioner of mental health located in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. She has Master's Degrees in Clinical Psychology and Clinical Counselling and is currently finishing her doctoral degree in clinical psychology. In addition to professional training and experiences in psychotherapy and treatment, clinical counselling, behavioral intervention, and neuropsychological assessments, Julie also has a background in psychological research at the doctoral level and uses the empirical insights gained from previous studies to supplement her current clinical practice, making her unique as a practitioner of both clinical-scientist and scientist-practitioner models. As an advocate of positive psychology who understands that mental health is more than the absence of illness, Julie focuses on building success and helping clients flourish rather than merely reducing distress. She believes in a world where people achieve flourishing mental health. To do so, she is currently helping individuals one at a time to gain more control of their lives and to become versions of themselves they envision. What makes her different from other providers of mental-health services are three core features: — Julie strives to motivate her clients to learn the materials they work on in sessions actively, to enhance the awareness of psychology perspectives and concepts in their daily lives, and to relish in the experience while applying them in the real world. — She encourages clients to share their psychological burden with her and to trust her to be there for them every step of the way. — She grows and learns with her clients: Sometimes she is in a guiding role one step ahead, sometimes she is a partner walking together at the same pace, and sometimes she follows the lead of the one she works with to hear and observe what they want to share. Julie's professional goal has always been to meet clients where they are and to nourish them therapeutically to bring felicity (back) into their lives while enjoying the process along the way. She often finds herself smiling and laughing rather than emotionally burnt out after what many would consider to be a long day's worth of sessions and attributes it to her enjoyment of spending time supporting all of her clients. She humbly acknowledges that she works and plays while living on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. — It's been a chaotic day. There are angry customers at work. Your daughter misbehaved at school, and you need to talk to the principal. The car won't start. That sort of day. Stop. Control. Reset. Take ten deep breaths. Sing. Listen to soothing music. Walk into a garden and watch the birds. The human brain is an efficient, pragmatic, functional engine, of unfathomable complexity -- with the ability to invent, remember, project, and see relationships among people and ideas. I love my brain. I wouldn't even go to the mailbox without it. My brain has allowed me to function and prosper in this uber-complex modern world. But all too often our brains run amok and drive us crazy. To retain sanity, we must not let our think-too-much-know-it-all-brains overtake the castle. In this podcast we will explore both our human and our animal consciousness and seek to understand why it is so vital to reach deep inside and listen to the Nature-Self within. Valeria Teles interviews him — Jon Turk — the author of “Tracking Lions, Myth, and Wilderness in Samburu , The Raven's Gift: A Scientist, a Shaman, and Their Remarkable Journey Through the Siberian Wilderness — among other titles. Jon Turk earned a Ph.D. in organic chemistry in 1971 and was nominated by National Geographic as one of the Top Ten Adventurers of the Year in 2012. Between these bookends, Jon co-authored the first college level environmental science textbook in North America, followed by 30 additional texts in environmental, physical, and earth sciences. At the same time, he kayaked around Cape Horn and across the North Pacific from Japan to Alaska, mountain biked across the northern Gobi in Mongolia, and made numerous first ski descents and first rock climbing ascents around the globe. During extended travel in northeast Siberia, Jon's worldview was altered by Moolynaut, a Siberian shaman, and his later books reflect these spiritual journeys. Jon has published four trade books: Cold Oceans (HarperCollins), In the Wake of the Jomon (McGraw Hill), The Raven's Gift (St Martin's Press) and Crocodiles and Ice (Oolichan Press). Tracking Lions, Myth, and Wilderness in Samburu delves more deeply into a “mind-body-spirit” theme, supported by adventure storytelling, integrated with an anthropological view of the role of art and mythology in human development. — “I am back to where I am meant to be, back to pure source energy that I am a part of, the energy that we are all a part of—we are ONE from the creator of the Universe. Each one of us is an extension, a branch of that energy in physical form. We are the same in spiritual form, thus different in physical form. We are brothers and sisters with different abilities, mindsets, and paradigms so that we can cocreate with each other with the union of pure energy, our source, the Infinite Intelligence. The life that each one of us has experienced in this world is unique to each and everyone. The ones who are similar attract each other in the vibrational world, and together, they create momentum, either good or bad. The power of choice is vested in each individual, and it is what it is. — In this episode, Dr. Paola Lake discusses the topic of laying the foundation to find a healthy partnership in life. She is trained in both Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and Gottman Couples Therapy and has come to understand what qualities are important to sustain a healthy vibrant relationship, but also what qualities are important to choose a partner who will be compatible and life enhancing. All too often people fall into patterns when seeking relationships which results in unfortunate repeated disappointment and heartache. As one psychologist, Dr. Larry Waterman, has said, "we spend more time considering what type of car we want, then what type of partnership we want." Our quest for a partnership may be driven by a need for companionship, fear of loneliness, or sexual attraction. However, without laying the groundwork to choose a right partner, we may be caught in repeated struggles and eventually become disillusioned about the prospect of finding a compatible partner. Dr. Lake provides some strategies and reflections as you open yourself up to considering a relationship. Valeria Teles interviews Dr. Paola Lake — a Rehabilitation Psychologist, Podcaster, And Speaker Dr. Paola Lake has a passion for helping people heal and recover from past trauma and adversity so that they can release the burdens of their past, overcome emotional blocks, and develop tools and strategies to help them realize their potential and achieve personal goals. Dr. Lake adopts a mind-body approach to healing. She strives to help people create enduring change that manifests itself in the form of greater clarity, self-compassion, an increased sense of possibility, greater connectedness to others and self, an ability to be present in the here and now, and a heightened sense of self-efficacy in their lives. Dr. Lake, owner of Lake Professional Psychology Corporation provides services to the general public, as well as police officers and veterans to help them heal from exposure to trauma and the darker side of human tendencies. She draws from over 20 years of experience working with survivors of sexual abuse, accident victims, psychiatric clients, and those suffering from low self-esteem, grief, anxiety, or depression. — “Feelings do not have an external origin. In fact, all unhappiness seen in a situation, oneself or another person (registered emotionally as sadness, anger, fear, dissatisfaction, etc.) are just reflecting an internal disturbance, or reaction, arising from negative thoughts, beliefs, and or judgments and which is fundamentally a choice based on an incorrect belief of who/what I am.” Valeria Teles interviews Eloisa Ramos — the author of “Beyond Self-Esteem: Discovering Your Boundless Self-Worth.” Eloisa Ramos was born in 1960 in a farming village, in Guanajuato, Mexico. Her family moved to Northern California in 1968. She graduated from Stanford University in with a BA in Sociology. She married, but when two of her four children developed asthma and substance sensitivities, she began looking for "another" way to help her children. It became clear to Eloisa that mainstream medicine did not offer a permanent solution for their health issues. In finding “another” way to help her children, she discovered EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques). She is a certified EFT Master Practitioner with the AMT. EFT tapping has opened up a new world of possibilities for Eloisa, her children and her clients. She has evolved surrogate EFT to The Ramos Clearing Technique which uses muscle testing to find unconscious non-serving beliefs and energetic imprints. Using the principles learned in A Course in Miracles, she helps her clients release, clear and let go of the obstacles to the awareness of Love, which is the miracle, the Source of healing. — Dr. Pater Salerno believes that people make positive and lasting changes based on the insight gained during the process of psychotherapy. Psychotherapy provides an opportunity for people to reassess personal history and make connections between past and present conflicts. He does NOT view people as sick, dysfunctional, or disordered; rather, Dr. Salerno believes that when our desire to grow outweighs our fear of growth, we become empowered to reach our full potential and to live the life that we truly want to live. When this cannot be accomplished on our own, psychotherapy is simply an effective resource that can become a meaningful and liberating experience. Understanding the impact of work-related trauma you experience as a firefighter brings both challenges and benefits. Reliving memories that you wish would just stay buried can seem like torture, and it can stir up all kinds of emotions that you have tried hard to keep at bay, but working through trauma will bring clarity to your life that you haven't had in a long time. It will feel like tremendous relief to have your life back so you can finally be present and deeper connected to yourself and the ones you love. Eventually, you will end up enjoying your time off-duty in a truly positive way. Valeria Teles interviews Dr. Peter Salerno — he is the author of “Fit For Off-Duty: A Manual for Firefighters: Healing from Work-Related Trauma, Restoring Personal Relationships, and Thriving at Home.” Peter Salerno, Psy.D., LMFT, is a licensed psychotherapist residing in Southern California, who holds a doctoral degree in psychology, a master's degree in clinical psychology, and bachelor's degree in Literature. — No matter what is to come in your life, work to continue expanding on all the ways of being and living these ideas, not perfectly of course, but joyfully and compassionately. Work to honor your own divinity and know that it is always there guiding you. Discern between your ego and love. Meet your own expectations of yourself with unconditional love. Over time with this love, your expectations will fall away and compassion will reign. Make a vow to yourself that you will always be there for yourself unconditionally and compassionately. You are no different than any human being who also wants love, comfort, and acceptance. We all matter, whatever size, color, beliefs, level of fear, gender, sexual orientation, and/or mistakes. Either we are all equal or we are not. Stop creating an “other” category and always vow on the side of love and keep trying to let go of your judgment, fear, and pain to show yourself compassion. Live in the continual process of letting it be and you will always flow with acceptance. Valeria Teles interviews Lisa Templeton — the author of “Letting It Be: Mindful Lessons Toward Acceptance.” Lisa Templeton, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist, author, musician, speaker, and founder of The Interpersonal Healing Center in Boulder, Colorado. — As a happily married, fifty-five-year-old professional woman, Susan Keller had it all—or thought she did—until the day of her shocking diagnosis with stage 4 Mantle Cell Lymphoma, a rare and aggressive disease. Within minutes of being admitted to the hospital, her beautifully ordinary life disappeared. How would cancer affect her marriage? Facing a possible death sentence, Susan experienced visions so lucid and beautiful that she imagined she was looking into the foyer of death or a magnificent afterlife. Her mind and body melded into all that surrounded her. Bliss replaced fear. Cancer and spirituality were one. But during the darkest moments, Susan questioned the nature of mortality. Does death have the same shape, sound, and feeling for everyone? Did the father she yearned for think of her the moment he died? What would she think of? Would there be regret, celebration, or nothingness? After months of grueling inpatient chemo, she faced another seemingly impossible hurdle. To survive, she needed a bone marrow transplant. But Johnny—her brilliant, off-the-grid brother—was the only possible donor. But he'd vanished decades earlier. Blood Brother is a family saga of curing an incurable cancer and of the enigmatic events that led to finding a man who never wanted to be found. It also explores why he disappeared and delves into what it means to forgive the parents who abused and abandoned them. Susan survived twice: once a violent childhood and secondly a devastating cancer. Blood Brother is a story of life after a bone marrow transplant. It's a moving tale of rebuilding a family, recognizing the unexpectedly stunning gifts of cancer, and of how to embrace a profoundly generous second chance at life. Valeria Teles interviews Susan Keller — The author of “Blood Brother: A Memoir.” Susan Keller enjoyed a 30-year career as an award-winning medical writer. Her poetry won prizes in regional and national contests. She has a degree in Public Health and Immunology from U. C. Berkeley. This background in science as well as poetry makes the voice in her first book, Blood Brother: A Memoir, both lyric as well as credible. A frequently fatal lymphoma inspired Susan to write Blood Brother: A Memoir. Articles about her story of hope and survival have been published in: Psychology Today; Conquer: The Patient Voice; two Guideposts Magazines; Patient Power; and several newspapers. She is a monthly blog contributor to Psychology Today and CURE Magazine. Susan is a presenter at Dominican University and at Stanford Cancer Center. All links available upon request. — “We earn our disease, although we may not recognize how it happens. Stress, negative thought patterns, improper breathing, lack of nourishing foods, and poor rest all play a role in your well-being. By having The Four Pillars as part of your daily life, you can start to take back control of your life. The key to The Four Pillars is rhythm. That's the beauty of it! If you lack in one area, the other three will hold you up. They all rely on and support each other. Just focusing on positive thoughts won't do much if your breathing is off, you have a poor diet, or you don't get adequate rest. Just as important, you can't sit around resting all the time either! Each pillar plays a unique and vital role. All four pillars are important. One may need more of your attention than the others right now. Pay attention to what you need, and take steps toward change.”Valeria Teles interviews Stephanie Bolster McCannon — the author of “BolsterUp!: The Ultimate Guide to Becoming a Happy Healthy Human.” Stephanie Bolster McCannon is also an Organizational Psychologist, and CEO of BolsterUp, a well-being coaching company that supports emotional, mental, and physical mastery. — Nate Terrell helps his clients recognize the function of their “inner voice” by having them think about one thing and then switch to another. He explains to them how they can use their “inner voice” and other strategies he writes about in Chapter eight of his book: “Achieving Self-Compassion” to detach from their thoughts and the world outside of them and find greater inner peace by tuning into their authentic selves. Nate defines the authentic self as the permanent part of us that doesn't change as the result of our life experiences, different outward identities, etc. In a nutshell, it is who we are at our most basic level. Nate often asks his clients to close their eyes, journey deep within themselves and connect with this essential part of themselves. They become more relaxed and centered as they reflect on who they really are and what they can do to remain in their authentic selves. He also encourages his clients to look at pictures of themselves and/or read things they wrote when they were younger to connect with this durable component of their psyche that exists beyond their ever-changing thoughts, feeling and perceptions. One of his most compelling discoveries is that he can lead a more effective and satisfying life when he exists in his peaceful, authentic self. Rather than forget about his responsibilities, Nate is better able to clearly focus on what he needs to do at any given moment, free from stress or the distraction of unwanted thoughts, worries or fears. In fact, when he enters the friendly confines of his authentic self, Nate always feels like he is coming home to a welcoming and inviting place within that is always waiting patiently for his arrival. An important component of our authentic selves is our “inner knowing” which exists beyond our thoughts and feelings and provides us with the wisdom we need to do to take great care of ourselves, respond effectively to the challenges we face and grow into our best selves. Your “inner knowing” is always available to you and will never lead them astray. In contrast to our ever-changing thoughts which we experience at the top of our heads, the messages we receive from our “inner knowing” come from a deeper place within and provide us with a strong sense of correctness we can't shake. These messages often come “out of the blue,” but are so compelling that we instinctively follow them with serenity and confidence. Valeria Teles interviews Nate Terrell — the author of “Achieving Self-Compassion: Giving Yourself the Gifts of Happiness and Inner Peace.” Nate teaches how we can achieve self-compassion and find greater happiness and inner peace by: being our own best friend, developing beliefs that work for us, knowing we are inherently worthy, not projecting our needs onto others, choosing happiness and peace of mind, taking great care of ourselves, tuning into our “authentic self”, eliminating negative reactions, appreciating what we already have, and enjoying the present moment. Nate Terrell has witnessed and experienced the healing and transformative power of these strategies in his work with clients and his own quest to be more self-compassionate. Many people believe that it is selfish to be self-compassionate. However, there is nothing selfish about eliminating self-criticism, treating ourselves with kindness, feeling worthwhile, being happy, transcending our worries or finding a peaceful place within. These gifts, which we can give to ourselves at any moment, will fill us with positive energy and caring that we can pass onto others. Nate Terrell very much hopes that you can begin giving yourself the wonderful gift of self-compassion today to fill your life with abundance, fulfillment, and serenity – you certainly deserve it!! Nate Terrell has 40 years of experience as a therapist and currently has a private practice in Mullica Hill, New Jersey. He also has a coaching practice and helps his clients to: — Overcome the challenges they are facing — Become more self-compassionate — Enjoy greater inner peace and happiness — Get “out of their heads” and savor the moment they are in — “Tune into” their authentic selves and inner knowing — Achieve personal and professional success You can sign up for coaching on Nate's website: achievingselfcompassion.com. — Energy healing is a way of balancing the flow of energy in the human body and the subtle energy systems. When we experience trauma, grief, loss or other disturbances to our equilibrium, these experiences get stored as emotions in our systems. These stored emotions can cause blockages by building up and stopping the flow of energy. As humans we are very adept at storing these build ups of energy in varied and surprising places within us - often expressing as ill health in some way. Radiance has shown Theresa Voigt that when heavy emotions, pain or trauma is stored in the body, disconnection and disharmony is the result. By accessing these stores of energy, releasing them and creating space for flow, harmony and balance can begin to be restored. By opening our hearts and surrendering to the liminal spaces within us, change and transformation is possible. It all begins and ends with the heart. In this way healing becomes an internal search for reclamation of balance and wellbeing. Something that is within reach of all of us. Trusting ourselves to embrace our ability to realize our original blueprints, make the necessary adjustments, and emerge as a new version of our best selves is something we are all capable of. A way of living where we fall in love with ourselves. In all the ways. This is the power of Radiance. Valeria Teles interviews Theresa Voigt — She is an Energy Alchemist and Soul Coach based in Sydney Australia. Theresa believes in awakening women to deeply believe in and live their value and worth so they can create a life they are proud and empowered to live. — Everything is relationship and lovemaking. It is in our active looking and touching, smelling and licking, appreciating, praising and honoring the other; through interactive, interconnected play, interpenetration and mutual receptivity, darkness and light, masculine and feminine, dynamic creativity without end, that magic happens and pleasure flows, the world becoming alive to itself, including us fully alive to ourselves. Love is so much more than we think it is. We are love. What we want is to turn inside out. We want the big love that comes through the portal of our hearts to shine fully on the outside. To be not just something private, not just to be shared with some- one we are intimate with, but something to be shared with everyone and everything. Turning inside out means allowing the mess, the bloody wetness of the inside of the body to show; for the truth of us to be seen, as it were, on the outside. To show our vulnerable confusion and fear. For there is no separation. No division. It is to be just like the movement of energy in our torus-shaped field, allowing that which is at our core to become visible outside. Fierce, uncompromising, honest, free and wild. We are Love. — What if you could live authentically and live the life that you want? Dare to unlearn and unleash the authentic you! Our conditioning is not our fault and it is not who we are. Our conditioning is faulty when we deny our own needs and or emotions, are people pleasing, have low self-esteem, fear of abandonment and obsessive thinking to name a few. As human being we are all codependent at some degree. As long as we will live as our ego self more often then we live as our true self, we will adapt in some ways to fit in rather than expressing our true nature. Codependency mean that we forgot who we really are. We have the false belief that we are not loved, worthy or enough as we are so we often try to control, cling or settle for less than our desires. Fear is often at the basis of our decisions and we often numb ourselves by overindulging in food, alcohol, netflix, social media, shopping or other substances. We also distract ourselves from feeling our emotions by avoiding them. We need to get out of our story (ego) and see ourselves as the limitless being that we are. Let's do this together! Valeria Teles interviews Cassie Giguere — She is a Certified Life Coach, Theta Healer, and a student in Psychology at University Laval. Cassie helps her clients to unlearn and rewire their subconscious mind so they can align their beliefs with their desires. She focuses on healing the inner child. She helps the client through a regression to remember the moment when a faulty belief about the self was created so the client can meet his/her inner child's needs, reassure and nurture that part of themselves and heal. For Cassie, healing our inner child is the way to heal ourselves and align all our energy in one direction that we have consciously chosen. She also helps her clients to reconnect with their spirituality and their own wisdom. Cassie is also an entrepreneur and has built a multi million dollar business in the fashion industry at the age of 25. She began her journey into spirituality and life coaching after she struggled with her own mental health at the age of 27. Because of that experience, Cassie embarked on this long journey of self-discovery and learning and eventually got her theta healing & life coaching certifications. Her life completely changed from the inside out, (from her beliefs to her reality) Cassie left the fashion industry and launched her coaching practice. Cassie believes that we should see progress today in our doctors office with everything that we know about epigenetic and quantum science. Cassie's long term goal is to help bring science and spirituality together. — Mari L. McCarthy has experienced the life-changing health benefits of journaling firsthand. When multiple sclerosis (MS) caused her to lose function and feeling in the right side of her body several years ago, she had to face the enormous challenge of teaching herself to write with her left hand. Mari began stream-of-consciousness journaling every day and learned far more than just how to be ambidextrous. She learned that journal writing is physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual therapy and the key to health and happiness. Mari is now journaling each day to restore her right side (as well as the rest of her body) to perfect health. The right side of her body is about 65% functional, and her right-handed writing is legible. Journaling helped her change her diet and her sleep habits, and she feels better than she ever has. She hadn't used prescription drugs in 11 years or over-the counter drugs in five years. Mari knows and loves herself unconditionally, and her relationship with her Self is positive, healthy, and compassionate. Mari will help support and guide you on your personal wellness journey and help you become strong, energetic and full of life. — Reiki is a gentle yet powerful Japanese method of natural healing, which promotes stress reduction, relaxation, restoring ease and clarity, emotional release, creative flow, and support for physical healing, amongst other benefits. Translated as "Universal Life Force Energy," Reiki (pronounced ray-key) involves the light laying of hands on or over the body to help shift, strengthen, and/or restore more balanced energy throughout the body. Reiki can also be sent and received from afar. A practitioner acts as a channel or conduit for Reiki with the intention to support healing; in this sense, Reiki can never harm - it can only do good to support any person of any age, animal, or intention. (Re)Discovered in the early 1900s by Dr. Mikao Usui (of whom the Usui System of Natural Healing is named), Reiki has been passed down from practitioner to practitioner through trainings/attunements. While Reiki does provide many healing benefits, it is not meant as a substitute for medical advice/diagnoses or medication; rather, it can be practiced in complement with a medical practitioner, as needed. A session involves the client lying down on a table (similarly to massage), open and receptive. Light touch or no (auric) touch is used, based on personal preference. A one-hour Reiki session can produce the effects equivalent to 4 hours of restful sleep. It can: help remove blocks in the body - physical, mental, emotional, creative, and spiritual; foster peace and compassion; relieve tension; empower goals and intentions; and support healing of past or present conditions. Sometimes one will experience physical sensations, abstract or vivid visuals, messages, memories - all connected with the intention guiding the practice. You do not have to "believe" in Reiki in order to experience the value/benefits from it, although a willingness to receive allows for a strengthened energetic connection. Reiki does not have a specific attachment to any religious affiliation; it can only enhance your current spiritual/belief system. Valeria Teles interviews Steven Todd Smith — He is a Certified Usui/Tibetan Reiki Master Teacher & Practitioner, based out of Los Angeles, with his energy healing practice, Reiki For Creative Minds. Immersing himself in a Reiki-guided lifestyle back in 2012, he has had the privilege of supporting thousands of individuals, people and animals, both in-person and remotely. With a BFA in Drama from New York University, Holistic Health Coaching Certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and Plant-Based Nutrition Certification from Cornell's T. Colin Campbell Foundation, Steven takes a whole-istic approach to life, connecting with others heart-to-heart, infusing creativity and playfulness, and embracing a grounded simplicity that helps to make Reiki accessible and relatable to anyone and everyone. His mission is to help others reconnect with a more balanced and aligned state of body, mind, and spirit, release unnecessary stress, and fill up every day with greater direction, inspiration, gratitude, love, and light. In addition to providing support with Reiki treatments, he also teaches classes for those who are interested in incorporating Reiki more directly into their lives for their own well-being and sharing the gift with others. — Self-Love is what Stephani Grace's work is all about—ways to learn to love yourself, and to have more compassion and acceptance for yourself. The reason it feels so hard to love ourselves is because of our ego. We have been conditioned to think and believe in a certain way. A majority of the time this is negative thinking or judgements against ourselves. As we begin to be more loving it can feel inauthentic, and our ego will likely argue with us and ramp up the negativity. We are truly reprogramming our minds to be more loving, and this takes awareness, time, and practice. Please be patient with yourself. Valeria Teles interviews Stephani Grace — the author of “ Creating Real Happiness A to Z: A Mindful Guide to Discovering, Loving, and Accepting Your True Self.” Stephani Grace is also a motivational speaker, therapist and mindfulness expert. She has used self-exploration and mindfulness to overcome many adversities including addiction and remnants of a traumatic upbringing to live a more vital, inspired and fulfilling life. Through her personal inner work and with hundreds of her clients, Stephani knows that everyone can experience the freedom of living life as their true self, free from judgment and past conditioning to feel joy and happiness every day. She has made it her life's mission to create helpful, accessible and easily applied tools to make wholehearted living possible for all people, everywhere. Stephani Grace is a state-licensed and board-certified professional counselor and mindfulness coach with 21 years of experience counseling and coaching individuals and couples using her unique blend of psychology and spirituality. She received her BA in Psychology and MA in Counseling Psychology from Humboldt State University. — We are told that the miracle is the means for healing our sickness, but it is not the healing itself. The healing, you could say, is the side effect of the correction that took place in our thinking where the miracle occurred. The miracle undoes misperception in our mind and any type of healing results. Healing tells us that our mind accepted correction and recognized that we are not separate from our Source from which the miracle came. Healing is not a miracle because the miracle is a thought of God that contains the light of truth. It has the power to correct error. Healing does not contain the light of truth because it is what results from the undoing of error or darkness. The undoing of the darkness is not the light itself. To speak of “a miracle of healing” would then be combining two orders of reality because the miracle has reality in truth or at the spiritual level, but sickness and healing only have reality in our mind being false thoughts or illusion. In the pre-separation condition, we had no need for healing because there was no fear. The belief in separation and fear goes together. So, until our mind can recognize that the separation is unreal and lets it go completely, we will need healing because we will be fearful. Health is inner peace and sickness is some form of external searching for peace. If we are seeking for peace externally in the physical world, we must believe we can find it there and not within us. So, we must also be perceiving the cause of our lack of peace outside of us. Even when we recognize that the disturbance to our peace; be it fear, pain, conflict, etc. is experienced within us, we will believe that something separate or in our external situation caused it. In level confusion, our mind does not recognize its casual role in how it is experiencing life. It does not see itself as the maker of its own fears. I will see something outside of itself as the cause of its suffering or problems. This includes the belief that our own body and what we do has causal or creative power to bring about suffering and hurt in us or others. We come to perceive the body as if it has a mind of its own. Valeria Teles interviews Eloisa Ramos — the author of “Beyond Self-Esteem: Discovering Your Boundless Self-Worth.” Eloisa Ramos was born in 1960 in a farming village, in Guanajuato, Mexico. May her work help to light the way for all to uncover the Truth that is within. — According to Ayurveda, before the beginning, or what science calls The Big Bang there was Awareness of Oneness. Within the original Awareness of Oneness, arose a desire to experience itself that created Duality of Awareness or Experience. This Duality-Awareness of Experience created the energy of friction and the manifestation of Energy or Prana. Some of this manifested Energy condensed becoming matter. To understand matter, one needs to experience it, and so this trinity, Awareness, Experience, and Energy/Matter came into being, with the result, our physical universe with its diverse attributes. Ayurveda is a vital science and art-healing system that provides guidance for living in harmony with our inner, microcosmic, and outer, macrocosmic, environments as well as other beings around us. Its way of teaching us is very poetic, because life is poetic, with much more going on between the lines and the wave-particles of potential matter than is readily apparent by just the energy-material "facts" of the wave-particles themselves. This is said with the understanding that our minds manufacture fact. ". . we develop the fact by giving it further order, form and structure. Ayurveda is unique in that it clearly informs us how to live in harmony with Nature. It is the "wisdom of living." One may call it the original ecological worldview where the fundamental interdependence of all living systems is primary. Ayurveda encompasses all aspects of life—our physical bodies, our thoughts and emotions, our spiritual connections, our relationships and inter-relationships to each other and the other living systems in our environment. Ayurveda teaches us how to maintain a dynamic harmony with these concepts to maintain and regain our health. — When we are emotionally balanced, our lives have more of a flow and become less of a struggle. As we reduce unhealthy negative emotions, and increase the presence of healthy emotions, mindfulness and awareness become more accessible. When our minds are at ease, our problem solving skills improve and we are better equipped moving towards our goals and aspirations, resulting in happier and more meaningful lives. The seeming impossible becomes possible. There is a shift within our energetic selves, which shift in itself may promote feelings of joy and fulfillment within, and in our lives. Valeria Teles interviews Anette Eriksson — she is a clinical therapist in private practice based in New York City where she provides therapy and coaching to her clients. Anette has a particular interest in helping her clients achieve emotional balance and uses Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), a form of CBT, in her practice. REBT is a solution-focused approach and has its roots in ancient Greek, Roman, and Eastern philosophy, with a particular influence of Stoicism. The philosophical component is brought into the cognitive challenging of clients' irrational (unrealistic and unhelpful) thoughts and beliefs, which beliefs tend to create neurosis and dysfunction. The premise of REBT is that our thoughts and beliefs have a lot to do with how we feel and behave. This theory was argued by the Greek Stoic philosopher, Epictetus, who notably said, “People are not disturbed by things, but the view they take on them.” Anette has a master's degree in clinical social work from Fordham University, and post-graduate training in REBT from the Albert Ellis Institute. In addition to her therapeutic education, Anette has an extensive background and training in philosophy and mindfulness. Valeria Teles interviews Hamideh Taraki — she is a Life Coach and Theta Healer. Hamideh Taraki was born in Tehran, Iran, and she was a witness to the Revolution and the War with Iraq. Challenging life after the war and the bad financial decisions of her father made her think more about happiness and success. Hamideh became an observer. She loved reading books and psychology, philosophy, anthropology were her favorites. Thirsty for knowing other cultures, Hamideh had chosen BA in French Translation. After graduation, besides my daily job, she was translating books and articles during nights and weekends. Her books have been published by famous publishers in Tehran. Still, Hamideh wasn't feeling happy or satisfied. At that time, she was feeling a heavy pressure on her shoulders. She was all the time scared of the future, and it gave her a kind of anxiety. Something inside Hamideh was pushing her to go faster but towards where? What was my purpose? Finally, the pressures made her sick, a strange strong headache behind her left ear. She couldn't sleep anymore. Hamideh was taking painkillers for a while. She was forcing herself to keep going. In 2007, Hamideh immigrated to Montreal, Canada. Seeking her real purpose in life and her highest passion, she took every opportunity and help. She was always passionate about lots of things, she was starting them passionately, but Hamideh was bored after a while. So, she came back to university. For four years, she was going from one field to another, finally, when she was in Job Counseling, she found her place. But her headaches became worse. Doctors couldn't find anything. Suddenly, she was crushed. Hamideh had to stop everything. She used to be a blamer, projecting the problems to others, her parents, situations, society, politicians, etc. She was full of resentments. Non-stop headaches and a very low level of energy made her stop every activity in her life. Hamideh couldn't even read a book. So, she has been forced to have lots of silent moments, she listened to motivational audios and videos. That was her transformational time. Hamideh recognized a kind of power inside her that had always guided her. She learned to look differently, to ask the universe different questions. As soon as she made her decision to be healthy, the universe started providing her with the right people and guidance. After one year, her energy boosted, and Hamideh had fewer headaches. When for the first time she meditated she found it the best and most interesting experience she have ever had. When she was participating in Life Coaching classes, Hamideh was introduced to Theta Healing. She found it amazing. She has already learned Reiki, however, with practicing Theta Healing, she could feel the shifts inside her. Her physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies were healing at the same time. She has started feeling energetically lighter. She also gained a smorgasbord of significant new insights into herself and her life. Last year, Hamideh launched her online company. She works hard but she enjoys every minute of it. She is working as well as a volunteer for The Women Center in downtown Montreal. — A central dilemma for spiritual seekers, and perhaps for all human beings, is learning how to live with one part of our awareness rested into the profound stillness of the unconditioned mind, while simultaneously being fully engaged in the unique context of our lives. This is an art that requires years of practice. To accomplish this balance of stillness and movement we must be deeply rooted in the paradoxes of human existence. We must recognize ourselves as both form and formless, as a unique event in time and space, and also a timeless essence that transcends physical, psychological and cultural conditions. We must understand ourselves as beings with biological, psychological and cultural conditioning, and also as timeless wells of emptiness from which creation has mysteriously sprung. The practitioners that I have known that have embodied this moment of creation when emptiness flows into form and form into emptiness have a particular kind of energy about them. They transmit a timeless presence and transcendent quality of Being while simultaneously being fully focused, clear and deeply available in every moment. They are luminous, flowing, relaxed, fully present in the complexity of every context, and see the world with an admirable sense of objectivity. They are not “stuck”…. — Wicca is a Nature worship that assumes that duality is complementary—not adversarial. Like other opposites, evil and good coexist; they define each other. While there are such things as evil spirits, the more we focus on positive energies and build our alliances with the Spirit realm, the stronger and more protected we become. In wholism, evil is the Shadow Power of good. It is seen as wounded or misguided energy that expresses itself as negativity, cruelty, fear, greed, war, and ignorance, which harms the greater good, such as fouling the water or clear-cutting a forest. For the most part, energy is neutral by nature and guided by intention. In other words, the assumption in Wicca is that we empower what we focus on. Valeria Teles interviews Suzy Peltier — the author of “Ancient Wisdom for Modern Needs: Discovering Taoist Wicca.” Suzy Peltier, also known as Lady Red Hawk, has served the Lord and Lady as well as the principle of holism for over thirty years as a certified massage therapist, hypnotherapist, Reiki master teacher, shaman, Interfaith minister, auxiliary chaplain for UCSF Medical Center, third-degree Wiccan high priestess, and founder of the neo-Wiccan tradition of Taoist Wicca. With a background in medical anthropology and a degree in holistic health, Suzy was intrigued by the use of ritual as an ancient healing tool. She wondered, How does ritual work? What makes this ancient art form so adaptable that it was used for healing, worldwide, for thousands of years—by cultures with very different belief systems? There had to be something practical about it, so why is it virtually absent from modern culture? She wondered how ritual works and if it could be used to address the epidemic of stress and other modern ills. Could ritual help restore the balance, belonging, and empowerment missing in our current cultural values? Twenty-six years ago, she gathered a few friends together to run a unique spiritual and social experiment to explore these questions. This experiment evolved into the practice of Taoist Wicca, with practitioners and small covens across the U.S., and an email Circle list, offering an extended Wiccan and Reiki community to people across the globe. She has written and hosted two internet radio shows. — What if everyone actually is doing the best they can, at that moment in time, with the potential to change in the very next second to another best they can. Each one of us is doing the best we can, bending, adapting, to the world. Who am I to say that the way you bend is wrong? Who are any of us to judge each other like that? We each may have a preference, but if we judge each other we will just get angry and defensive. When we change the paradigm from incredulous to inquisitive, we encourage an opportunity to explore the others perspective. That is how Dr. Joe uses his I-M Approach. To wonder with a patient who they are and why they do what they do. For all of us to wonder who we are and why we do what we do. Valeria Teles interviews Dr. Joseph Shrand — the author of “ Unleashing the Power of Respect: The I-M Approach.” Dr. Joseph Shrand is Chief Medical Officer of Riverside Community Care headquartered in Dedham, Mass. He has been a Lecturer of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and an adjunct Faculty of Boston Children's Hospital. — According to recent figures, back pain has now reached epidemic proportions with millions of people across the globe experiencing severe muscular pain every year. In fact, over 4 million people now search “lower back pain” into Google every month. Most are suffering completely unnecessarily, as the root cause of their pain stems primarily from poor postural habits while performing everyday actions. But help is at hand with Back in Balance, an easy-to-understand practical book designed to help readers discover the cause of their own individual back problem and offer them an effective and lasting solution to their suffering. This essential guide draws on many of the principles of the Alexander Technique, a practical way of releasing muscular tension throughout the body. Helping the reader to discover how their posture and movements may be having a detrimental effect on their health, this guide offers new ways of performing daily activities, with the aim of reducing muscular tension and stress on the bones and joints—and making their lives pain free. The experience of the Alexander Technique actually puts you in touch with your own true essence, an experience that some people may not have had since childhood. It can give us the power to alter our consciousness, which can allow spontaneous gratitude to take the place of negative thinking; since our consciousness has no limits, there is no end to how attentive or appreciative we can be of this amazing existence. The more aware we are, the more alive we will feel and the greater our capacity to enjoy life will be. As the process of change starts to take place, back pain, fear and worry simply evaporate by themselves. Valeria Teles interviews Richard Brennan — the author of “ Back in Balance: Use the Alexander Technique to Combat Neck, Shoulder and Back Pain.” Richard Brennan has studied the Alexander Technique since 1983 and has been teaching the technique full time for over 30 years he travels extensively internationally giving workshops, talks and interviews about the Technique. — Storytelling dates back to the beginning of time. In fact, stories are perhaps the strongest bonds we have with other nations and races. Australian aborigines painted symbols from stories on cave walls to help storytellers remember their tales. The Egyptians were the first people to write down their stories; and the Romans, through their travels and conquests, were adept at disseminating stories. The purpose of storytelling is to share stories that unite us. Regardless of our culture, stories bring us together and bridge the gaps among us. They're also tools for learning and exchanging ideas. But, not all storytellers are created equal. Surely you've noticed that some people are wonderful storytellers, and others just make you yawn. The idea of storytelling is to relate events in words, images, sounds, and embellishments. It is a way to convey the emotional power of information. Author and professor Robert McKee, in his book Story, says, “Stories are equipment for living.” In fact, when a story is told well, the listener is transported on a journey to a new place. – Writes Diana Raab In this episode, Valeria Teles interviews her, Diana Raab — She is the author of Writing For Bliss: A Seven-Step Plan for Telling Your Story and Transforming Your Life. Diana Raab, MFA, PhD, is a memoirist, poet, blogger, speaker, and award-winning author of nine books. Her work has been published and anthologized in over 1000 publications. She views writing as her spiritual practice and she writes every day. Raab blogs for Psychology Today, PsychCentral, and Thrive Global, and is a guest blogger for many others. She's editor of two anthologies: Writers and Their Notebooks and Writers on the Edge; two memoirs: Regina's Closet: Finding My Grandmother's Secret Journal and Healing with Words: A Writer's Cancer Journey, and four poetry collections, including Lust. — We are limited by outdated gender stereotypes, both men in their lack of access to a wide range of emotions and caregiving and women in their limited access to leadership and power. It's in our best interest to move towards flexibility and being instrumental or nurturant as circumstances require. This means we stop telling boys not to cry or be like girls and stop telling girls to be nice little ladies. We need to encourage girls to go into leadership and STEM fields of science and technology and boys into caregiving professions. The consensus of our experts is that boys and men are not permitted to show vulnerability. This prejudice shuts down even being aware of some emotions, which is why EVRYMAN and other men's groups begin with identifying body sensations. Asking for help may require being vulnerable, which fits in the “threat to masculinity” danger zone. This fear of being perceived as weak contributes to men's health problems and a higher suicide rate. Being shut down emotionally also inhibits men's intimate relations with people they love, one of the reasons why women in English-speaking countries are much more likely to initiate divorce than men. Femininity is seen by sexists as weakening to precarious masculinity and can increase the fear of intimacy. Progress certainly isn't a straight line upward, as evidenced in the sexist cult led by Donald Trump. George Simons finds in international surveys that about one-third of men support gender equality. Gayle Kimball is hopeful because Generations Y and Z tend to not limit themselves in regards to their gender roles or skin color. They have models to emulate as they assume more political power, learning from Nordic gender equality programs, Danish emotional literacy instruction for children, research on boy's development (like that done by Andrew Smiler and Warren Farrell), and supportive groups for boys like those developed by Jerry Tello and Ashanti Branch. Promundo and MenEngage provide models of how to involve boys and men in activism for gender equality for all human beings. — “To live a healthy and enriched life, our past emotional wounds—like bodily infections—must be cleansed and allowed to heal.” – From the book Give Back the Pain. Valeria Teles interviews Dr. Robert Bleck — the author of “Give Back the Pain: Emotional Healing Through Source Completion Therapy.” Veteran educator/researcher/psychotherapist Dr. Robert Bleck has devised a simple, but effective 3-phase therapeutic approach to eliminating the lingering effects of painful past experiences. Believing that we all suffer from at least some emotional wounds as a result of our past experiences, especially those who have been abused, Dr. Bleck put his mental health expertise to work on developing Source Completion Therapy (SCT). Incorporating all the effective, significant psychological theories widely in use today, SCT takes us on a journey of personal exploration and emotional healing built on the theory that we can only break free of the disabling effects of our hurts if we (first) become fully aware of their true origins, (next) re-experience the pain, and (finally) complete the healing process by confronting those responsible for the pain. In his book, Give Back the Pain, Dr. Bleck creatively provides snippets and case histories that help us see our own behaviors among the many symptoms SCT addresses. An easy-to-use self-hypnosis script aids us in becoming fully conscious of the events that created our symptoms. And options for giving the pain back to its source (completing) are offered. Robert T. Bleck received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida. As a former professor, he has taught counseling and psychology. As a writer and innovator in the field, he has appeared on radio and television shows throughout the country. He is founder and director of the Source Completion Therapy Center in Plainview, New York, where he puts his therapeutic principles into practice. — As a mother, Ingrid Marquez who has watched her son struggle with heroin addiction for almost 13 years, she understands the heartbreak, fear, guilt and the tremendous amount of stress and anxiety one lives with 24 hours a day. Years of trying to save her son, watching him deteriorate, seeing him going in and out of rehabs, jail and close to death, Ingrid realized that she had also lost herself in his addiction. How could she continue to help him or be there for her daughters if there was nothing left of her. This is when she began to go deeper into her studies of meditation and the practice. She knew in her heart this would be her saving grace and it was. Ingrid still of course worries and still cries at times but her practice keeps her present and in the moment. She no longer feels that she is falling into the depths of darkness and despair. She is living once again and so very grateful for all those who have helped her on her journey. One of the most important lessons that she has learned, is to be kind to yourself, honor your feelings, have boundaries and seek help to cope with the vast range of emotions that will come. Remember to take time for yourself and Just Breathe. You are doing your best, One breath at a time. Valeria Teles interviews Ingrid Marquez — She is a Chopra Center Certified Meditation Instructor and creator of IM Meditation-In-Motion. — We each have a quiet center at the core of our being. Living in the world provides a multitude of opportunities to distract us from this. Instead of peace, we experience stress, turmoil, and suffering of all kinds. These experiences are not necessary ones. It is possible to live in the world and transcend suffering. What this requires is understanding and connecting with the enormous power of the mind. — When we take the time to connect to our bodies we can recognize the range left on our emotional gas tank and choose how far we can go with the emotional reserves we have. This isn't to say that you will never react, but the time you spend reacting and the recovery time thereafter will lessen. Additionally based on your range you can choose how and when to engage in situations. You wouldn't drive 100 miles if you only had less than a gallon of gas left in the tank, so why overextend yourself by taking on more than your emotional range can handle? This is the power of becoming body aware, taking charge of your emotional health by embracing the body that influences it. Movement alone does not guarantee positive mental health. Otherwise, professional athletes, artists, and performers would be the gold standard when it comes to mental health and we know that is not always the case. While strength corresponds to mind and body, without the frequent dialogue between them, and the ability to check-in with the load on both, the mind can be quick to override the body's needs. We can push through, overexert, and burn out. This book is a guide to living your best life. Not by adopting a positive outlook, but by adopting a way to move through everything life throws at you and understanding how the way you move during challenging times is just as if not more important than the way you move when things feel easy. — It is evident that regular exercise is important for maintaining a healthy body and for reducing the risk of developing chronic diseases, like heart disease and diabetes. Interestingly, the importance of exercise in maintaining a healthy mind is also becoming more and more clear. Exercise is now being prescribed by doctors as a part of treatment for a range of mental illnesses, including depression and anxiety. While scientists do not fully understand how exercise can help improve our mood, we know enough about the positive benefits of exercise to suggest that everyone living with mental illness should have access to tailored exercise programs as part of their recovery. — In modern allopathic medicine, we find doctors specializing in only one area of the body or a single aspect of health such as endocrinologists, immunologists, gynecologists, rheumatologists, and so on. Each area of the body is isolated as though they are not connected. When Sandie Gascon first started coaching, her business coach emphasized the importance of finding a niche. Even in the functional and holistic world there are niches. Practitioners specialize in hormones, adrenals, candida, Lyme Disease, and so forth. Just like in allopathic medicine, many holistic practitioners tend to focus on treating only one area of the body as though nothing is connected. She thought long and hard on what her niche would be. Due to Sandie's own experience healing from chronic illness, she was unable to pick one. She knew that regardless of what symptoms or diseases are present, the entire body, mind, and spirit must be addressed as a whole because everything is connected. Valeria Teles interviews Sandie Gascon — the author of “Heal Yourself: Body ~ Mind ~ Spirit.” Sandie Gascon is a Health Coach who has helped guide hundreds of people from over twenty-five countries on their healing journey. After suffering severe side effects from medications during her twenty-year battle with chronic migraines, when she was diagnosed with Lupus she committed herself to healing naturally. Through her experiences, she developed a whole body, mind, and spirit approach that addresses the person in a truly holistic manner. She takes the guess work out of the equation by running functional lab work to see what the body needs. She healed herself of migraines, depression, Lupus, Interstitial Cystitis, and cystic acne. Her purpose is to help educate others on the importance of shifting focus to rebuilding and rebalancing the body and removing internal and external stress so the body can heal itself. Sandie lives in Ontario, Canada with her husband Eric and son Kaiden. She has a passion for riding horses and spends much of her free time at the barn with her horses Bee and Vala. She loves playing with Kaiden, spending time with family and friends and hiking with her dogs. Meet Sandie at motivated2heal.com
