Das Thema beschäftig aktuell die ganze Welt! Was macht die Impfung, macht Sie krank oder sogar gesund? Gibt Sie uns, unser "altes" Leben zurück? So, I (Bryan) had a bit of a work issue to discuss. It has become one of my myriad jobs at work to write up some policies. In and of itself, it's not particularly fun work, and for whatever reason, this is causing me all kinds of issues. So this week we take a quick look at why I'm having these issues, if they are because I don't get it, or because the method I must follow is flawed. After that, we add on to last week's show on #2FA and #MFA (http://traffic.libsyn.com/brakeingsecurity/2017-013-Multi-factor_auth_gotchas_with_Matt.mp3) by discussing why scientists are trying to create a 'master fingerprint' capable of opening mobile devices. We talk about FAR and FRR (false acceptance/rejection rates), and why the scientists may actually be able to pull it off. We discussed Ms. Berlin's trip to the AIDE conference (https://appyide.org/), a two day #DFIR conference held at Marshall University by our good friend Bill Gardner (@oncee on Twitter). She gave a great interactive talk on working through online wargames and CTFs, and we get her update on the conference. Finally, we did discuss a bit about the #ShadowBroker dump of #NSA tools. We discussed how different people are taking this dump over the #Wikileaks #CIA dump. WikiLeaks has released a major trove of CIA docs revealing their hacking methods and capacities. Shocking to some, no big surprise to others. Among the highlights: the CIA has the ability to hack a range of household devices without you knowing, and evading even encrypted communications. Your phone, your TV, your car, your toaster. (Well, maybe not your toaster.) But not to worry. The docs reveal a hyper focus on spying on other elites (with the aim of gaining an edge over them) - countering...

Buying a Bride: An Engaging History of Mail-Order Matches / Mike Rothmiller ; Trump Wiretaps , Wikileaks CIA Taps , Secret WeaponsThere have always been mail-order brides in America—but we haven't always thought about them in the same ways. In Buying a Bride, Marcia A. Zug starts with the so-called “Tobacco Wives” of the Jamestown colony and moves all the way forward to today's modern same-sex mail-order grooms to explore the advantages and disadvantages of mail-order marriage. It's a history of deception, physical abuse, and failed unions. It's also the story of how mail-order marriage can offer women surprising and empowering opportunities. Drawing on a forgotten trove of colorful mail-order marriage court cases, Zug explores the many troubling legal issues that arise in mail-order marriage: domestic abuse and murder, breach of contract, fraud (especially relating to immigration), and human trafficking and prostitution. She tells the story of how mail-order marriage lost the benign reputation it enjoyed in the Civil War era to become more and more reviled over time, and she argues compellingly that it does not entirely deserve its current reputation. While it is a common misperception that women turn to mail-order marriage as a desperate last resort, most mail-order brides are enticed rather than coerced. Since the first mail-order brides arrived on American shores in 1619, mail-order marriage has enabled women to improve both their marital prospects and their legal, political, and social freedoms. Buying A Bride uncovers this history and shows us how mail-order marriage empowers women and should be protected and even encouraged. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/1198501/advertisement

This week's News Roundup covers the Wikileaks CIA leak on device hacking and the misreporting that's been happening around it this week; two "fake news" stories – Facebook's commencement of its flagging of fake news and Google's failure to surface true news in its search snippets feature; and reports that Nest is working on some new smart home gear. Our Question of the Week is "Can Uber be saved from itself?" Uber has been through the ringer the last few weeks as a result of a set of mishaps largely of its own making, but there's also a long history of questionable, immoral, and illegal behavior as well as poor treatment of both employees and drivers at Uber. Aaron walks us through the ethical shortcomings that lead to behavior like this, and how Uber could change for the better, based on experience from other companies and his expertise as an ethics expert. Our Third Segment is a conversation about the narrative that seems to be emerging about Windows PCs gaining on the Mac and to some extent becoming "cool" based on a few recent articles. We have a brief discussion about how much of this is real and how much of it is confined to a narrow set of users who happen to be influential. Our Weekly Pick is a TV show recommended by Jan. As usual, you’ll find some links to related content as well as other ways to listen to the podcast on the website at podcast.beyonddevic.es.
