On this episode of the Progression Project, I sit down with Olympic BMX racer and Subi Riders founder Mark Willers (subiriders) Mark's journey took him from representing New Zealand at two Olympic Games to reimagining what foiling could become by combining it with the sport he knows best—BMX. We dive into the highs and lows of chasing an Olympic dream, the mindset required to perform at the highest level, and how that same obsession with progression led him to invent an entirely new way to ride on foil. It's a conversation about creativity, innovation, resilience, and what happens when you stop asking what exists and start building what doesn't.

Sean Willers was homeless as a teenager, served in Afghanistan, became an international DJ playing some of the biggest clubs in the world, and then woke up in a hospital bed with no memory of how he got there. That moment didn't just end a night out, it ended an entire identity. In this episode of School of Rock Bottom, we explore what happens when success and self-destruction start to overlap, and the point where you're forced to choose between continuing the cycle or rebuilding everything from scratch.Sean's life moves through homelessness, early alcohol use, military service, the fitness industry, and a high-flying DJ career that gradually became dominated by cocaine and alcohol. What begins as escapism turns into dependency, shaped further by a nightlife culture where excess is normalised and boundaries slowly disappear. He breaks down the pivotal night in 2021 when a set in Nottingham, intended to mark a reset, spiralled into blackout, hospitalisation, and police involvement. That moment became the final breaking point with the music industry and the start of sobriety. From there, the conversation moves beyond the headline of addiction and into the mechanics of recovery itself. Sean challenges the usefulness of labels, questions whether traditional frameworks like AA work for everyone, and argues that long-term change is built less on willpower and more on structure, identity, and discipline. They also explore the often overlooked reality of early recovery: the substitution of one compulsion for another, the role of dopamine-driven behaviours, and the slow process of building stability without relying on extremes for regulation. At its core, this is a conversation about control. Not just stopping drugs and alcohol, but learning how to build a life that no longer requires them.Sean is now a high-performance life and wellness coach, working with people who look like they've got it all together on the outside but know something isn't right underneath, helping them get in shape, quit drinking, and take back control. INSPIRATION | Vielleicht kennst du den Spruch „5 Things I Wish I knew when I was 20“?

Sean Willers, UK from The Willers Brothers join us to share his story for life after the party. Having enjoyed a residency at Egg for over four years, we, Sean and Liam Willers, aka The Willers Brothers, became a highly successful DJ act, regularly playing top London clubs, including Ministry of Sound, Tobacco Dock, and more. As regulars on the Berlin music scene, we frequently played hotspots such as Watergate and Tresor. We also hit the decks at high-profile venues like Pacha in Barcelona, The Zoo Project in Ibiza, SWF Festival in Amsterdam, Bit Club in Sao Paulo, plus venues in Tokyo and Moscow. We were the second most listed DJs to play at Egg and were signed by the Watergate agency, which saw us move to Berlin and enthusiastically throw ourselves into the party lifestyle. Throughout our career, we played alongside many big-name DJs, including Darius Syrossian, Kerri Chandler, Waff, and Yousef. As music producers as well as DJs, we achieved several number ones on decks.de and top 10s on Beatport, releasing our catalogue on both vinyl and digital formats to high acclaim. However, the demanding nocturnal lifestyle began to take its toll. I, Sean, became gripped by a vicious drug and alcohol addiction, leaving me feeling like a wreck mentally, physically, and financially. We gained a reputation for excessive consumption, which started breaking down our relationships and negatively affecting our DJing work, causing us to repeatedly fall out with numerous agencies and people within the industry. Send us a Text Message.Cocaine use is common-place in many cities around the world, including London the one where I live and work. Like many psychologists I have worked with patients who have problems with cocaine and they become addicted to this drug. For someone who is addicted to cocaine, it brings chaos to their lives and the people who are in their lives along with poor physical and mental health. Sadly in some cases, cocaine addiction can lead to a premature death. In this episode I talk to Sean WIllers.Sean's story is a facilitating one, from his time in the British army, to becoming a top DJ in nightclubs in both London and Berlin. Sadly, Sean became addicted to cocaine and his life began to unravel.I have an open and honest conversation with Sean about his addiction to cocaine, what led to that , how he managed to give it up and get his life back on track. Sean now uses his story to support and provide inspiration to other people like him who are struggling with cocaine addiction. He is now a lifestyle coach, personal trainer and mental health advocate. He is truly an inspirational person and this interview is full of hope that other people too can deal with this issue. I'm a London based adolescent and adult chartered psychologist. Please share this podcast if you find it helpful. Also follow me on Instagram, Twitter, Tiktok and Facebook for insights on mental health.

Although surrounded by family pets from day one, his relationship truly blossomed with animals from 1979 when his father bought a piece of land in the village of Shepreth, just outside Cambridge, where he built his dream home. At this time he began to take in wildlife to rehabilitate and this was the beginning of Shepreth Wildlife Park.Jake spent the weekdays of his childhood living with his mother and sister in Cambridge and his weekends working at the wildlife park with his father. Alongside his affection for mammals Jake began nurturing a fascination for reptiles and invertebrates. At the age of 9 he was asked to care for a friend's corn snake for a few months; on one occasion it escaped and slept with him curled up under his sheets. By the age of 11 years Jake had a pet Imperial scorpion. Keen to learn more about nature in general, at 16 Jake got certified as a scuba diver and became fascinated with the underwater world. At the age of 22 he became desperate to see more of the world and so travelled and worked in Australia for a year; this was partly to quench his desire of diving on the Great Barrier Reef. During this time he worked as a builder's labourer, a hostel manager and Harley Davidson chauffeur to fund the trip. (Oh, and had great fun surfing!)On his return to England Jake decided to train for a career that would give him the option of emigrating to Australia in the future. He chose to train as a chef for two years. Having had a long-term fascination with flying and dangerous activities he also took up skydiving. In 1995, Jake returned to western Australia to fulfill a burning ambition to snorkel with the whale shark on the Ningaloo Reef. While there he spent three months scuba diving and skydiving. It was during this second visit to Australia while swimming with the whale shark that Jake's path became clear to him and he returned to Shepreth Wildlife Park to make a serious commitment to furthering its work. It wasn't long before he stamped his own identity on the place by creating a new exhibit, Waterworld and Bug City, dedicated to the creepy crawlies and underwater life of the wild. This was to be a turning point in his career as it was this feature which propelled Jake into the world of TV as presenter on National Geographic Channel's 'Insects From Hell' series. Having spent so many years surrounded by wildlife, Jake found himself in some pretty tricky situations. When he was five he was bitten on the knee by a lion cub. At 13 he was attacked during the night by a kinkajou (honey bear). He was been bitten numerous times by snakes (once in the face by a 6ft boa constrictor), on the hand by an alligator, and on the foot by a huntsman spider.Jake's TV shows have gone from strength to strength and are still hugely popular with audiences over the world. His shows include; 'Insects From Hell' series I & II (13 episodes, National Geographic Channel), 'Mosquito Hell' (60 min, NGC), 'Pests From Hell' (60 min, NGC), 'Rogue Raiders' (6 episodes Five UK/Nat Geo Wild) and 'Wild Events' (7 episodes, Five UK).In 2007 Jake moved from Cambridge, England to the US and formed NineCaribou Productions, LLC, a production company dedicated to expanding peoples' knowledge of wildlife and the world around us.Jake currently resides with his wife, children and many pets near Lake Tahoe, Nevada, USA.Find out more about Jake by visiting his website - https://www.jakewillers.com/And be sure to listen to his podcast Behind the Wild Lens Podcast which is available on all the major podcast platforms.Instagram - https://www.jakewillers.com/

Was heißt das konkret? Und was muss man dafür tun?

This episode begins with Jonathan examining how people typically make decisions about who is deserving of empathy and who is not. This episode's close read starts with the scene between Dagny and the "old watchdog." Jonathan examines the social class evocations called up by the identification of the old watchdog having an "air of breeding" about him. Dagny doesn't want to discuss what she calls her personal torture -- what is she referring to? Jonathan offers an answer: the riddle of why some people seem to give up on life. This connects to the pervasiveness of fear, and fear-based shame, in our society. Jonathan then observes the similarity in tone and meaning between "who is John Galt?" and the phrase "it is what it is" in our time. Chapter 3 ends with Eddie Willers revealing a lot of information to the strange unnamed interlocutor, "the silent presence." Of the various things mentioned by Willers, Jonathan focuses on the admiration of workism and the setup for an act of sabotage against Dagny that comes in the next chapter. My five themes to explore in this podcast's close read of Atlas Shrugged are:What is human nature?Straw-man arguments and their impact on the world Ayn Rand creates.Dagny Taggart as a true hero. How empathy can be de-legitimized.What is Capitalism and what is wrong with it? Questions or comments? I'm excited for todays episode with Aaron and Chris Willers. They are a married couple who have lived full time on the road since January 2019. They left their high paying corporate careers in their mid-thirties to live life to its fullest through travel and experiences. In preparation for working on the road they launched their new business, Irene Iron Fitness, where Chris coaches clients 100% online as a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Pn2 Level Certified Nutrition Coach. Aaron drives their entrepreneurship spirit with his enthusiasm and technology skills to run the back office of the website as well as all of their YouTube production for Irene Iron Travels. Together, they practice the healthy lifestyle that they preach and love helping others live their best life out on the road. The Willers are planners and methodical executers - they spent a few years building their reserves so that when they launched they had almost 5 years of runway available.

They started their entrepreneurial journey from square zero - their corporate jobs had nothing to do with what either of them are currently working on.

They started out in a airstream van, spent a summer overloanding in a rooftop tent and are now finding their new normal in a 26 foot travel trailer that is the perfect place to welcome home their newest edition, a basenji pup named Louie!

In this episode, I focus on the interior thoughts of Eddie Willers and the description of a city in decay. These pages take us into some interesting territory: what is Eddie's sense of apprehension? From the socialist point of view: how does capitalism betray us? From Rand's point of view: how has socialism betrayed what was great about capitalism? Today's Moment of Non-Contradiction comes from Reddit. In this episode, I mention Ayn Rand scholar Jennifer Burns and her book The Goddess of the Market. My five themes to explore in this podcast's close read of Atlas Shrugged are:What is human nature?Straw-man arguments and their impact on the world Ayn Rand creates. Dagny Taggart as a true hero. How empathy can be de-legitimized.What is Capitalism and what is wrong with it? Questions or comments?
