Ai-jen Poo is a woman who cares. That caring shapes her activism as a next-generation labor leader, a gifted organizer, campaigner, advocate and author. Ai-jen is also faithful. At the threshold of the second half of life –she just turned 50— she has spent the last 25 or more years dedicated to growing a domestic workers' movement. Always crucial yet routinely undervalued, family caregivers are more and more essential as our nation ages, as we age. Ai-jen founded and leads the National Domestic Workers Alliance, a network of more than 70 local affiliate organizations and chapters and over 200,000 members that, in 12 short years, passed Domestic Worker Bills of Rights in 10 states and two municipalities and brought over 2 million home care workers under minimum wage protections. In 2011 she launched Caring Across Generations to unite American families in a campaign to achieve bold solutions to the nation's crumbling care infrastructure. A leading voice in women's movements, five years ago Ai-jen along with two other amazing women leaders, Cecile Richards and Alicia Garza co-founded Supermajority to build a powerful women's voting bloc to ensure our freedoms and priorities, an effort needed even more today in light of the recent elections.  The author of the celebrated book, The Age of Dignity: Preparing for the Elder Boom in a Changing America, Ai-jen's brilliance, imagination and hard work have earned her a MacArthur “Genius Award,”  a seat on the Board of Trustees of the Ford Foundation and a walk on a Hollywood red carpet with Meryl Streep. If like us you could use a fix of possibility, dare we say hope, in these dark days, join our conversation with Ai-jen, starting with her explanation of why campaigns are like love affairs. ------------------------------ Visit www.twooldbitches.com Follow us on Instagram @twooldbitches, Twitter @TwoOldBitches, Facebook @TwoOBPodcast Created, Produced and hosted by Joanne Sandler &  Idelisse Malavé Edited by Jeyda Bicer Social media management by Loubna Bouajaj

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the podcast. In this episode, I discuss Generzation Z, the generation I am part of, and our role in being activists. I wanted to investigate this topic ,especially with the rise in social justice and fight for racial equality, because I noticed how a lot of people figthing for it were people of my age. The current civil rights movement that is happening is different from when it happened 50+ years ago and I wanted to examine how a different generation fighting for the same thing is using different techniques. This episode is very generalized and may not be true in every situation. I also give a little news update about the current #BLM and what changes have been brought. Also, I am biased towards my generation in this episode, but I still have a lot of respect for the generations before me. I hope you enjoy this episode! Remember to keep educating yourself and growing a little new seed of knowledge. If you enjoyed this episode, make sure to subscribe, review and share it with your friends. It has happened to all of us at one time or another. We’re lured into a false sense of security. We think we’re in a safe space. And then we (or our children!) are assaulted by an inappropriate image or message. Learn how the Choose Change campaign can give us ways to fight back! Pornography and sexual exploitation are a huge plague in our society. But have you ever thought about the big bucks behind them? Did you ever consider that you can reach some of the organizations that are fueling the problem and actually make a difference? What if it was as easy as the click of a button? Would you take time to help? This is Glendyne Gerrard’s mission. To educate members of the community. To defend children and families. And to make it easy to get involved in causes that will make a difference. As co-founder of Defend Dignity, the organization behind the annual Choose Change campaign, she is doing just that.  More about today’s guest Glendyne Gerrard helped found Defend Dignity, an initiative of The Christian & Missionary Alliance, in 2010 after meeting and being challenged by a survivor of prostitution.  She has been giving direction to this non-profit organization ever since.  She is passionate about ending all forms of sexual exploitation in Canada.  She has been married for 42 years to her husband Doug.  Together they have three married children and eight grandchildren.  They live in Oakville, Ontario. Media Savvy Moms is a podcast by ParentsAware, an organization dedicated to helping parents talk to kids and teens about pornography and healthy sexuality. Hey y'all. Today I have a relatively short but special episode for you. I met up with Darrell Kinsel, also professionally known as D.S. Kinsel, at his project space, Boom Concepts. I first met Darrell just at the inception of Boom Concepts while they moved into their current space on Penn Ave, back in 2013. I approached Boom with this silly idea I had to curate a painting show with a group of conceptual and installation-based artists. Darrell was excited by my strange curatorial project and thats where our friendship began. Over the years, we saw each other's artistic career grow and I was happy to interview Darrell after all our shared experiences. Darrell describes himself as a “black creative entrepreneur and cultural agitator" and his work focuses on themes of escapism, space keeping, urban tradition, pop culture, hip-hop, informalism and cultural appropriation. Darrell is also the co-founder of Boom Concepts, a combination work space and creative hub that offers artist studios in auxiliary locations across Pittsburgh’s unique neighborhoods. In conjunction with these activities, Darrell also works with youth, community artists, and community partners in order to identify ways for youth to express issues of social justice through drama, dance, music, visual art, and technology. At the time of the interview, which somehow was over a full year ago in 2018, Darrell had just became a father and was a busy man. His marriage was three days away and he had a lot on his mind. Since I was leaving for Berlin at the time, Darrell was kind enough to squeeze in some time for a short interview. Darrell was taking a break with a deinstall at Boom Concepts and keeping a close eye on his daughter, Liberty. There are a few stray baby sounds and other noises in the space as a result. Hopefully they aren't too distracting. I definitely would like to chat longer with Darrell in the future. In any case, I hope you enjoy this. And it burns, burns, burns... the ring of fire. The ring of fire. We have all had those moments in our life when it feels like our soul is on fire. Our relationship just blew up, our career went up in flames, or our expectations just exploded. And suddenly, we find ourselves sitting in the middle of the fire. Why does this happen? What is the purpose of the burning? And right now, when the country feels like the flames are surrounding us, what do we do? As artist, what can the fire be fuel for?

The Washington State Liquor Control Board will not be limiting the size of of Cannabis grow operations, at this time!!! Something to think about, do we have a Marijuana Mafia? Jerusalem - Israeli Orthodox Rabbi and author of a book on alcohol and drug use in Judaism, Efraim Zelmanovich has issued a ruling stating that the use of marijuana for medical purposes, and when prescribed by a doctor, is kosher, while sternly warning that marijuana use for “pleasure” is strictly forbidden. Zelmanovich went on to say that use of medical marijuana as a last resort, when all other medications fail, is a “mitzvah.” Zelmanovich’s approach to the use of analgesics was altered after Rabbi doctors ultimately consented to administer morphine to his dying mother as a last resort to ease her suffering. Zelmanovich explained his unconventional approach by saying that as he studies Torah, he he is trying to learn how to “behave,” and that includes expanding his interest in “social things,” and “how we can help ourselves.” Rabbi Zelmanovich is calling on Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein and Justice Minister Tzipi Livni to also issue explicit permission to use medical marijuana. There are currently around 11,000 licensed medical marijuana patients in Israel.
