Growing up the son of a heroin dealer and trying to cope with the trauma of being molested as a young boy, he fell hard into drugs and alcohol. Over thirty-five years ago, at the urging of his family, John entered rehab. He emerged a changed man – committed to helping others afflicted by this terrible disease. Giving back to his community has always been core principle of Mr. Giordano's. His efforts to better his community have also been recognized. Florida State Congresswoman Carrie Meek presented Mr. Giordano with the distinguished “Martin Luther King Award” for his work in the community. He was also awarded the Certificate of Appreciation from the Homeless Community of Dade County and the Humanitarian Award from South Florida Public Television Station, Cable Tap.As he began his career in addiction treatment, he became increasingly dissatisfied with the quality of care he observed in treatment facilities. John decided to set out on his own and with only $300 he opened an addiction treatment facility that evolved into the highly awarded, JCAHO accredited, 62 bed G & G Holistic Addiction Treatment in North Miami Beach, Florida which eventually sold for $45,000,000. John's achievements have not gone unnoticed; he is one of the media's most sought after addiction expert. Mr. Giordano has appeared on countless notable national and local TV programs such as: CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, FOX Mornings with Mike and Juliet, Tom Brokaw NBC News, ABC news, CNN Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, Geraldo, and “Interventions” on A&E as well as many other national and local TV and radio shows. Thanks For Listening! Follow us on: - Website: https://victim2victor.net/ - FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/victim2victor - TWITTER: https://twitter.com/V2V_healing - INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/victim_2_victor_podcast/- Victim 2 Victor Audio Book Audible: https://adbl.co/3akVNCu - Victim 2 Victor Book on Amazon: https://amzn.to/34MQQyu - Apple Podcast: https://apple.co/3wHvUof - Spotify: https://spoti.fi/36D6ZYE

IN THIS PODCAST:Why does psychology matter in treating the gut Be aware of your influence Use your body to help your mind Why does psychology matter in treating the gutThe gut-brain axis … the vagus nerve is part of the nervous system that allows your brain and gut … and other digestive organs as well to communicate … there is always this [gut to brain] communication happening in our bodies and there's a lot of information being transmitted about what's happening in our bodies. (Dr. Jennifer Franklin) The messages that flow from the gut to the brain are essential for proper brain function because they are messengers of homeostasis in the body. This is because the gut gives information about the environment that the body is in. This information is sent by the gut to the brain. On the other hand, people's psychology impacts them in various ways. People's desires, perceptions, wants, needs, and fears fluctuate daily. This is an important variable because, with awareness, one can influence it to create positive change. Be aware of your influenceEven though someone cannot control their symptoms, they can control their thoughts and can work to shift their perspective for the greater good of their physical health. When there's a stressor and a threat in our environment, whether, in our internal environment or our external environment, our brain zooms in on the threat … that threat are our symptoms, so then we get more focused … on the symptoms that are not making us feel very good, then we feel helpless to stop them, then we feel out of control … it leads to an unpleasant cascade of psychological, and worse, physiological symptoms. (Dr. Jennifer Franklin)This is where psychology becomes important in physical health: be aware of the influence that you can have over your thoughts. Use this ability benevolently and help your healing, instead of hyper-focusing on what is wrong. Focus on what you can influence positively. Use your body to help your mindJust as how you can use your mind to help your body, you can use your body to help your mind overcome stress and anxiety. Moving the body with slow, steady, and calm movements shows the brain that the body is safe, not in danger, and can relax. Activities such as yoga and gentle exercise help regear the mind from being in an activated nervous system to getting...

How the Extracellular Matrix Unifies and Controls Health in Holistic Treatment SHOW GUEST: Matthew Wood The cells in our bodies are not independent units. They do not control their own feeding, elimination, migration, or reproduction; they are controlled by signals from the extracellular matrix (ECM) that surrounds them. This all-encompassing inner ocean unifies all our cells and controls them in a coordinated and integrated fashion. Matthew Wood's new book, How the Extracellular Matrix Unifies and Controls Health in Holistic Treatment reveals the stunning implications of the extracellular matrix. Wood shows how it clearly explains the actions and efficacy of holistic therapies. He explores the ground-breaking research of Alfred Pischinger, who discovered the ECM in 1975, as well as the role of the matrix in transmitting and enacting the genetic code. Wood explores how the matrix builds and repairs itself and investigates the complex processes and components involved in the self-healing of wounds and traumas. He also explains how modern drugs, directed at specific receptors on the cell membrane, interfere with bodily self-regulation. Don't miss this amazing interview in which Matthew sheds new light on a time-old wisdom in which many holistic practitioners had already intuited the existence of the extracellular matrix, as well as how holistic therapies, past and present, modify the environment of the cell and strengthen the whole, bringing the body back to homeostasis and consequently offering true healing.

IN THIS PODCAST:Intuitive eating as a treatment for eating disorders Mindfulness and breathwork for eating Benefits of aromatherapy INTUITIVE EATING AS A TREATMENT FOR EATING DISORDERSIt's ironic, like, just giving yourself unconditional permission to eat because when we say: “I can't have the brownies”, well obviously we're going to think about the brownies until the cows come home. Giving yourself unconditional permission to eat and to honor your taste preferences and to notice how they play into your satisfaction. (Rebecca Capps)Intuitive eating is a powerful tool that people who have suffered from eating disorders before can use to overcome the intense restriction that they feel over their food and their body. After a long period of time stuck in an eating disorder, people become detached from their hunger cues and can no longer identify – or trust – their body when it is telling them what they need. In this instance, intuitive eating is listening to what your body wants and learning to honor those cravings until the intensity wears off and you begin to seek out nutritious food instead of the food that you used to restrict from. In this, mindfulness is necessary. [Intuitive eating] is a way to reject the diet mentality and to get angry a culture that has … fed us this myth that we need to always control and listen to “health gurus” and “fitness influencers” instead of tuning into our own body's own natural, inherent wisdom, because the truth is that the body is inherently healing, it wants to heal itself and its actually the mind that keeps us stuck. (Rebecca Capps) Intuitive eating helps people to get out of a cerebral realm and focus their attention on what their body is asking for, instead of what they think it should be asking for. MINDFULNESS AND BREATHWORK FOR EATINGMindfulness is an integral part of intuitive eating. You can combine mindfulness and basic breathwork to ground the body away from stress, out of past trauma or memory, and into the present moment. From this place of presence, awareness, and a sense of calm, once you have removed yourself out of yesterday's stressful emotions or this morning's difficult situation, you can connect to what it is that your body needs instead of eating what your emotions feel like eating. Breathing often mirrors our internal emotional state and truly those who suffer from mental disorders, specifically anorexia and bulimia, we need that kind of grounding to ground down and be in the moment so that we can tune into our hunger cues. (Rebecca Capps) BENEFITS OF AROMATHERAPYIt is possible to use aromatherapy as a paired healing modality to treat eating disorders alongside doing breathwork. I’m sure you can tell that this is one of my favourite people on the podcast today, Emma Bowen chatting about how she blended holistic and conventional treatment, in a really confident and empowered way. When we’re on our fertility (and cancer journey’s), it can feel like it has to be one way or another. You’re either going the conventional route or continuing with ‘natural’ treatments…. And that doesn’t always have to be the case. There are HUGE benefits in blending the two together.I especially loved how Emma talked about:How she was ‘human’ and allowed herself grace to navigate towards what felt goodHow a gratitude journal was a big game-changerHow she navigates the inevitable insensitive and unhelpful comments she receivedConnect with EmmaFollow Emma @empoweredwith_em on Instagram hereVisit Emma’s website hereGrab Emma’s Chemo Checklist hereEmma’s Book RecommendationsStress Less Accomplish More by Emily FletcherDying to Be Me by Anita MoorjaniRadical Remission by Dr Kelly TurnerMind over Medicine by Lissa RankinThe Cancer-Fighting Kitchen Cookbook by Rebecca KatzWant More?Beating Infertility and Cancer with Kiarra Hand10 year unexplained infertility journey with Bella HiltonWatch my free video workshop, Conquer Stress, Fuel Fertility here.Check out my 5 day Mini Mindset Program, Warrior Rising Follow me on InstagramIf you liked this episode, please take a few moments to pop into Apple iTunes and leave a podcast review. arla Wills-Brandon always wanted to do two things professionally: be of service to others, and write. After receiving a scholarship to California State University, Fresno, she graduated with high honors and a degree in psychology. She then went on to finish a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, Fresno, an APA approved school. Her husband, Michael “Tex” Brandon, also received his PhD in Clinical Psychology from this institution. After publishing eight books, and developing a successful private practice as a State Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Carla decided to go back to school. Not interested in treading a traditional education path she completed a two year course of study and dissertation in a Doctor of Philosophy in Holistic Nutrition program at Clayton College of Holistic Health. Her dissertation was titled “A Four Pronged Approach to the Holistic Treatment of Food Disorders.” Carla has published 12 books, one of which was a "Publishers Weekly Best Seller." Her most recent book, “Beyond The Chase: Breaking Your Obsessions That Sabotage True Intimacy” is proving to be a great success. She has also lectured across the U.S. and U.K., and has appeared on numerous national radio and television programs, such as Coast To Coast Radio with George Noory, Geraldo Rivera, Sally Jesse Raphael, Montel Williams, Art Bell's Coast To Coast Radio Show, Uri Geller's Coast To Coast Radio Show and Politically Incorrect With Bill Maher. Considered a relationship and trauma expert, many of her media appearances have been dedicated to discussing healthy intimacy, recovery from sexual abuse and trauma resolution. She has also appeared on several programs with her husband Michael, as the two clinicians often see couples in their private practice as a couple.Aside from her work with relationships, intimacy issues, sexual dysfunction, addiction, trauma resolution and grief, Carla has been investigating spirituality and other related phenomenon for over a decade. Her major radio show appearances have been dedicated to topics ranging from Near Death Experiences, After Death Communications, Deathbed Visions and Premonitions. She is considered to be one of the leading researchers into deathbed visions. In her private practice, grief work, lectures and workshops she teaches people how to integrate these unusual encounters into everyday living. Currently, she is working on another project involving the mysterious departing visions of the dying.Carla and her family live on an island just off the coast of Texas in a 100-year-old historical home, which recently survived hurricane Ike in 2008. She and her husband, Dr. Michael Brandon Ph.D., a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, have been in private practice for over two decades. They have been married for over 40 years. The Brandons have two sons, Joshua and Aaron. Along with this, they have one Golden Retriever, four kitties, one Chinese box turtle, and two Love Birds. In its capacity to completely destroy personalities, relationships and daily living, we cannot afford to continue thinking of it as a private disease. Alzheimer's is a family problem -- ruthless in its scope and spread. And, despite relentless trials and research studies, scientists have not found a drug to control it. Even worse, there isn't even a fully reliable diagnostic test for it. Alzheimer's disease has become a gigantic specter that looms before all of us as we age, and it is advancing unimpeded. Today we know that contributing factors and symptoms (such as stress and hypertension) can be alleviated with holistic, alternate management approaches, like meditation, yoga, music therapy and virtual reality therapy. Research studies from Harvard Medical School, Johns Hopkins University and Mayo Clinic, among many others, have demonstrated the comprehensive benefits of yoga and meditation on various aspects of the human mind. When you think about it, that's where Alzheimer's disease develops: in the mind. How can meditation and yoga stop or even reverse the course of Alzheimer's? They set the mind on an inward journey where the risk factors that precipitate the disease are formed. This bridging of the old and new creates an imperative paradigm shift in our perspective toward Alzheimer's disease management. Shuvendu Sen, MD, author of Why Buddha Never Had Alzheimer's, joins host Lisa Davis to discuss why these holistic approaches are precisely what is needed to cause a drastic and necessary revolution in medical care.
