In episode nine of the Courage My Friends series, we welcome visiting professor and dean of the faculty of agriculture and veterinary medicine at Gaza's Al-Azhar University, Dr. Ahmed Abu Shaban. We discuss the weaponization of already fragile food systems in Gaza, the acceleration of the climate crisis through conflict and Palestinian resilience under occupation.   Reflecting on the nexus of food, climate and occupation, Abu Shaban shares: “My father passed away in 2021 and we had a farm in Gaza. This farm was destroyed several times. And this farm is an olive trees farm. And olives, you know, you need to wait at least three to five years to get production out of it.So several times we cultivate the seedlings … The Israelis come inside … and destroy the land, cut the trees. My father would just … recultivate the trees again. I told him, Listen, but this is really too expensive because we are investing a lot of money in this and we never see the production of them. And my father said, Let them cut it for 100 times and we will recultivate for 101 times." This is our second interview with Dr. Altalla, surgeon at the last fully functional hospital in Gaza, Al-Aqsa, which suffered an airstrike yesterday from the Israeli regime in their courtyard, killing 5+ and maiming others. This was recorded weeks ago following the massacre at Al-Mawasi, the victims from which Dr. Altalla treated. So some of the information is dated but the overall value of the information concerning the medical situation in Gaza is beyond relevant. The internet connection was very spotty at best and required hours of editing to make it viewable. Dr. Altalla also has to be mindful of potential drone strikes on his location as the Israeli regime actively hunts medical staff to further terrorize their resilient people of Gaza. We discuss the dire shortage of medical supplies, the impending Polio pandemic poised to sweep the population of Gaza, the improvisation and bravery by medical staff to make due with what little resources they have to save lives, and some positive moments in the midst of this hell. A teaching assistant at The Faculty of Medicine at Al Azhar University in Cairo and a medical director of Al Amal Health Center. Dr. Altalla wakes up every day to manage the critical task as surgeon for the Surgery Department of Al Aqsa Hospital. Dr. Altalla had the misfortune of witnessing one of the worst surges of patients as a result of the Al Nussiret Massacre which resulted in 270 + murdered and over 700 severely injured. In defiance of the nightmarish and unsafe conditions weaponized to drive medical staff out of Gaza, Dr. Altalla refuses to evacuate until there is a permanent ceasefire. Dr. Altalla is trying to raise money for his Master's in the UK. Special thanks for the audio mastering done by former Gaza resident Mohammed “MoKu” Kutkut (ig @mokutkut) to bring it to some level of clarity. Words cannot describe the horrific state of Gaza's healthcare system (if it can be described as such) or the point of view of medical personnel taking on the harrowing task of saving as many lives as feasibly possible under a genocidal siege, but Dr. Mohammed Altalla does his best to do so as one of the few doctors still alive or in the capacity to take on such a burden in Gaza's only fully functioning hospital, Al Aqsa. As electricity is in obvious scarcity, the internet coverage being extremely undependable, a couple bombs being dropped in the background when he was recording and a drone loitering overhead the entire time, the interview had over a dozen interruptions with very poor quality of audio and video capture, so editing the final result only yielded so much. Yet despite the technical nightmare of interviewing anybody within the kill box of Gaza, the good doctor was able to convey the plight of medical workers throughout the strip, the aftermath of the Al Nussiret Massacre, the grave nature of the IDF's sadism towards medical staff and patients at Al Shifa hospital as a campaign of democide, the more probable estimate of Gaza's casualties being North of 50,000 murdered, a personal story of a specific patient who left a permanent imprint on his heart, and the faith that drives most of Gaza's medical staff into hell's gates for the sake of any innocent lives they may manage to preserve. You can support Dr. Altalla through his Gofundme: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-dr-mohammeds-medical-mission-in-gaza?utm_campaign=p_cp+fundraiser-sidebar&utm_medium=copy_link_all&utm_source=customer IG: https://www.instagram.com/dr.mohammed_altalla?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== #doctors #nurses #medical #hospital #paramedics #medicine #crises #disaster#internationalnews #warzoneclips #veteran #politicalnews #palestina #politics #political #internationalrelations #internationallaw #colonialoutcasts #counterterrorism #globalsecurity #warinukraine #warinukraine2024 #taiwannews #chinataiwan #chinataiwanconflict

We often hear from Muslims that our ummah suffers from disunity on a local, national, and international level. Slight differences of opinion can cause major divisions. Our countries remain deeply divided between themselves and there is an impression that has consolidated that we will not be able to recover our position. This situation has led to despondency. Helplessness and in the extreme an acceptance of the status quo. But is this written? Is there anything we can do about this parlous situation? Have we come to the end of Muslim civilisation and are we now merely managing decline? Are we waiting for the Mahdi, a leader who will change our situation? Or is there anything we can do about our predicament? To help us understand the issues of unity and division from an Islamic perspective we have invited Shaykh Dr. Shuayb Wani. A conversation about Palestine, socialism, and anti-imperialist solidarity, marking the release of Palestine: A Socialist Introduction. Join Sumaya Awad, brian bean, Khury Petersen-Smith, and Jehad Abusalim for a timely discussion about Palestine, socialism, and anti-imperialist solidarity across borders, marking the release of Palestine: A Socialist Introduction. Winning freedom in Palestine necessitates contending with the forces of capitalism, just as the struggle for socialism will have to take on US imperialism. A broadening movement of workers and activists see the injustices they oppose as common expressions of a cruel and irrational system—capitalism, and understand the need to posit a humane alternative: socialism. At the same time, the centrality of the Palestinian liberation struggle is becoming more and more apparent to leftists who see the relationship between liberation within the US and beyond its borders. As the US socialist movement continues to grow, it is critical that it embraces anti-imperialism, and the cause of Palestinian liberation in particular. Just as significantly, it is crucial that the growing Palestine movement orients toward socialist politics, as the only plausible means to achieve justice regionally and internationally. Sumaya Awad and brian bean, editors of Palestine: A Socialist Introduction, will be joined for a discussion about these themes by contributors Khury Petersen-Smith and Jehad Abusalim. Palestine: A Socialist Introduction systematically tackles a number of important aspects of the Palestinian struggle for liberation, contextualizing it in an increasingly polarized world and offering a socialist perspective on how full liberation can be won. Assalamu alaykum, As I begin my own spiritual journey, I want to hear from those who have taken this path before me. This podcast focuses on them and listening to their stories - uninterrupted. My name is Hebah Masood and I invite you to reflect on the trajectories of their lives, and the guidance and blessings provided by Allah swt along that journey. Before moving to New Jersey, I looked into the Muslim community here and the Center for Islamic Life at Rutgers University (CILRU). Long story short -- my Javed Nana (grandma's brother) in Chicago knew of Imam Kaiser Aslam, the chaplain at CILRU, through Kaiser's father. Kaiser had also recently given a khutbah at my old local masjid, Islamic Foundation. I reached out to Imam Kaiser before the school-year, and even though he was just returning from Hajj, he responded right away. CILRU, which is literally a house, has been a cozy and welcoming home away from home this past year. Last winter, I went on an blessed trip with Imam Kaiser and other Rutgers students on my first umrah. This year, CILRU is planning a trip that I'm also hoping to go on, to Jerusalem. It's supposed to be the first of its kind organized for Muslim university students. In this episode, Imam Kaiser talks about his spiritual journey, the path to chaplaincy, and using vacations to squeeze in Islamic classes in amazing locales around the world. - Also available on most other major podcast streaming services including Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Podcast Addict, Pocket Casts, Castbox and Podbay. - Do you enjoy this podcast? On Friday, March 30, more than 30,000 Palestinians gathered at the border of Gaza and Israel to commemorate the 1976 killing of six Palestinian citizens of Israel protesting the theft of their land, which became known as the Palestinian Land Day. On the first day of what the organizers call “The Great March of Return,” Israeli military forces opened fire into the peaceful demonstration, killing at least 17 people and injuring more than 750. The Israeli occupation forces boasted on their Twitter account that they “know where every bullet landed” during the massacre. They tweet was later deleted. Organizers of the Great Return March note that the objective of the march is to demand the implementation of the United Nations Resolutions 194 allowing for Palestinian refugees to return to their original towns and villages that are part of now Israel. The March was part of a 6-weeks event that will culminate in the commemoration of 70th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba or Catastrophe. That’s the term Palestinians use to describe the events leading to creation of the State of Israel and displacement of more than 750,000 Palestinians now refugees in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, surrounding Arab countries and around the world. Dr. Ibrahim Karim, founder of Biogeometry https://www.biogeometry.ca/ What started off as an occasional gathering of friends grew over twenty years into a weekly pivot in the lives of many people of different ages, religions, professions, social background and nationalities. Unstructured lectures and dialogues about almost any subject, where Dr. Karim believed that he has learned as much as he has taught his holistic approach which he calls the BioGeometrical Way; a new and expanded world view; equally scientific and spiritual in essence. In his own words “to be truly holistic it must incorporate anything and everything”. BioGeometrical shapes interact with Earth’s energy to produce a balancing effect on all energy levels of biological systems. Research into shapes of body organs led to the discovery of the relationship between of organ function, energy pattern, and shape. These patterns called “BioSignatures” produce, through resonance, a balance of energy and immunity that support orthodox and alternative medicine. An Architect by profession; graduate of the renowned F.I.T. Zurich, Switzerland; with BA/MA,and D.Sc. in Tourist Planning. He occasionally teaches as visiting professor of Architecture at several universities. Dr. Karim owns: Alemara Consultants Architecture firm founded by his father Dr. Sayed Karim in the1930’s, who is the main pioneer of modern architecture in the Middle East and author of several books on the Culture behind the greatness of Ancient Egypt. While still a postgraduate student in Switzerland, a chance meeting with Dr. Mahmoud Mahfouz led to an intellectual, philosophical conversation on hospital design and other topics. Dr. Mahfouz, later Minister of Health, appointed Dr. Ibrahim Karim as the youngest Consultant in the Egyptian Government, in order to bring innovative thinking to his Ministry. Dr. Karim worked in integrated health planning and developed new design concepts of flexibility and expansion for health projects in addition to working in the USAID project of Urban Health Development. In 1976 he was a consultant to Dubai’s ministry of health and is, since over twenty years, a member of the British Royal Society Of Health, and founding member of the Imhotep society in Egypt for scientific research in the alternative sciences. In 1982 Dr. Karim was a consultant to the Minister of Culture, the late Mohammed Radwan and e put the initial concept for the new Museum of Civilization for which the international appeal for funding was launched by UNESCO. Later on, as a consultant to the Minister of Tourism in 1985, he did the first tourist planning for the Red Sea and Western Sinai coastal areas. As a consultant to the Minister of Scientific Research in 1990e was the principle investigator of the environmental pilot project on the Mahmoudiya Canal in Alexandria and headed a committee at the National Research Center to research the effect of geometrical shapes on biological functions. He patented the first BioGeometrical shapes in 1993, others followed. He received an award at the international congress for inventors in 1998. His work as an architect includes several hospitals, residential and scientific projects, as well as tourist resorts on the Red Sea. While renovating the museum of Ancient Egyptian medicine in 1972, Dr. Fawzi Soleiman Sowiha, the director of the museum, introduced him to the science of Radiesthesia and with him he met Dr. Khalil Messiha, who introduced him to the French system of Physical Radiesthesia and its Ancient Egyptian origins. In France, at the Maison de Radiesthesie he acquired original books and instruments, those of the pioneers of this science. Fluent in many languages, Dr. Karim was able to combine modern concepts of physics, Harmonics, Perception, as well asPythagorean theories to develop a new “Physics of Quality” and based on it, a science of “qualitative” measurement: Egyptian Radiesthesia. It became the main research tool in his subtle energy research, supported by biofeedback and Bio-Imaging devices. Taking this research into Architecture, Geobiology and Building Biology, he found the basis on which he developed his new science of BioGeometry. Dr. Karim gives seminars and workshops, in Europe, America, and the Middle East. He is regularly on radio and television (e.g. Reuters, CNN). He had his own daily television program: “God grant me knowledge”, during the holy fasting month of Ramadan, at the turn of the Millennium, on Egyptian Satellite Channel. Since March 2002 he has a weekly one-hour program on the Egyptian ‘El Mehwer’ satellite channel. He did research in BioGeometrical organic planting with Prof. Peter Mols of the University of Wageningen in Holland and conducted a workshop to find solutions to harmful Earth radiation at the Design Academy of Eindhoven. In Egypt, he joined the “National Hepatitis C Research Project” lead by the late Dr.Taha Khalifa, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy of at Al-Azhar University, where he achieved significant results. These significant research results of the research were made public on air by Dr. Khalifa in a historic, often repeated, television program that included the former minister of Health, as well as prominent medical doctors, in the “Mesaha Horra” series, presented by Isaad Younis on the Orbit Satellite television channel in 1999. He is also discussing, with the governor of Alexandria, the ambitious futuristic project of the energy balance of the city. He is constantly traveling in the USA, Europe, and the Middle East, on consulting work in energy balancing of buildings.
