In 1987 and 1989, destructive fires erupt in conjunction with arson investigation conferences in California. Bakersfield Fire Captain Marvin Casey doesn't believe the timing is a coincidence. He finds a fingerprint on an incendiary device at the scene of one of the fires, and he believes the arsonist is a firefighter. On Casey's short list of suspects is arson investigator John Orr. Frustrated Knicks fans called in after the team's loss in Indiana, with one expressing dislike for Karl-Anthony Towns and another questioning why the series is being discussed as if it's over. Jerry's update included Pat McAfee yelling at celebrities and Brandon Tierney's social media comment that the Pacers are simply "better." In baseball, the Yankees beat the Angels with homers from Rice and Peraza, while the Mets scored four in the first against the White Sox. Ohtani already has 20 home runs. Terry Bradshaw called the idea of Aaron Rodgers joining the Steelers "a joke," suggesting he "chew on bark" in California. Tyreek Hill bluntly dismissed Travis Hunter as "gonna be ass." The "Moment of The Day" featured Boomer not paying attention during an update. The hour concluded with the sentiment that Tyrese Haliburton's dominant performance sealed the Knicks' fate, noting the only playoff game where the Knicks felt in control was Game 6 against Boston.
Tyrese comments on his father being back at the game. The Yankees beat the Angels as Rice and Peraza homered. The Mets beat the White Sox as they scored 4 in the first. Ohtani is already at 20 home runs. Terry Bradshaw called Aaron Rodgers to the Steelers ‘a joke' and said he should stay in California and ‘chew on bark'. Tyreek Hill was asked about Travis Hunter and he said, ‘he's gonna be ass'. The Moment of The Day: Boomer was not paying attention during a Jerry update.
Hour 1 The Knicks are down 3-1, leading Gio to declare the series over, though Boomer holds out until the Pacers win their fourth. Boomer noted the Knicks' best defensive players "got torched," highlighting the team's inconsistency. The Knicks face elimination at home, a place they haven't played well. In other sports, the Yankees beat the Angels, and the Mets defeated the White Sox. Oddly, Brandon Nimmo made a baserunning blunder. Off the field, Terry Bradshaw weighed in on Aaron Rodgers, and Tyreek Hill had a blunt take on Travis Hunter. The hour ended with Knicks fans calling in, one suggesting Thibs be fired. Hour 2 Larry Johnson showed no nostalgia for his famous 4-point ball when asked. The conversation shifted back to the Knicks' lack of identity and inconsistent play. Jerry's update included sound bites from Thibs and players, along with highlights from the Mets' win (Alonso homer) and the Yankees' victory (Rice homer, Rodon's strong outing). Boomer seems to believe the AL East race is "over." Terry Bradshaw reiterated his stance against Aaron Rodgers joining the Steelers for one year. The segment concluded with a humorous anecdote about Maggie Gray mistaking an impersonator for Sammy Hagar, and a caller suggesting the Knicks bring back Charles Oakley to change their "mojo." Hour 3 The Knicks' 3-1 series deficit sparked debate, with Gio suggesting the NBA "fix" games and callers decrying biased officiating, despite Tyrese Haliburton's stellar performance. Some fans, however, see the loss as part of the Knicks' natural progression. Jerry predicted a Knicks win in the next game, while the Pacers coach discussed the playoff back-and-forth. In baseball, the Mets defeated the White Sox, marked by a confusing baserunning play from Brandon Nimmo, and the Yankees held off the Angels despite a shaky ninth inning from Devin Williams. The hour concluded with a discussion about dog dancing. Hour 4 Frustrated Knicks fans called in after the team's loss in Indiana, with one expressing dislike for Karl-Anthony Towns and another questioning why the series is being discussed as if it's over. Sometimes you need to shut down, and then you open again. So the spiritual path is really about being with both the calm ocean and the storm.” – Jack KornfieldIn this episode, Jack and Ocean mindfully explore:What first got Jack into mindfulness and meditationLife as beautiful, and an ocean of tearsSuffering, Buddhism, and the end of sufferingWhy is there suffering in the world?Navigating the reality of duality—form and emptiness, life and deathThe recycling nature of the universeHow to make the ordinary holyMeeting our lives with presenceA simple way to explain “The Witness”The magic of consciousnessA calming and deep guided meditation Holding fear and grief in compassionNot getting caught in reactions and angerActing the nobility of heart and your original dignity This episode was originally recorded for the Food Revolution Network in November of 2024. “Life is extraordinarily beautiful, and it's an ocean of tears. You can't have birth without death, you can't have light without dark, you can't have beginnings without endings. We live in a universe constructed of opposites. That's just the game of form, of duality. You can't have form without the emptiness from which it comes.” – Jack KornfieldAbout Ocean Robbins:Ocean Robbins is an American entrepreneur and author, best known for his role as the co-founder of Food Revolution Network, Inc. For us as human beings, the question is not why or how. The Buddha didn't actually answer those questions. He said those are questions that don't tend to have understanding. It has been a tough month for Bay Area transit. BART had two major meltdowns this month, stranding and frustrating commuters, all while the agency plans to raise fares. System wide, Bay Area transit agencies continue to struggle with funding challenges and luring back riders after the pandemic fundamentally altered our region's commute patterns. Mixing Music with Dee Kei | Audio Production, Technical Tips, & Mindset
In this episode of the Mixing Music Podcast, Dee Kei and Lu break down one of the simplest but most powerful tools in every engineer's arsenal: high-pass and low-pass filters. From functional cleanup and frequency management to shaping emotion, depth, and energy, filters are far more than just technical necessities — they're creative tools that shape the feel of a track. The guys discuss where filters should be used, where they're often abused, and how they use them to sculpt tone, add movement, and guide listener focus. Whether you're cleaning up mud or automating your way to a more emotional mix, this episode will leave you hearing HPFs and LPFs in a whole new way.SUBSCRIBE TO OUR PATREON FOR EXCLUSIVE CONTENT!SUBSCRIBE TO YOUTUBEJoin the ‘Mixing Music Podcast' Discord!HIRE DEE KEIHIRE LUFind Dee Kei and Lu on Social Media:Instagram: @DeeKeiMixes @MasteredbyLuTwitter: @DeeKeiMixes @MasteredbyLuThe Mixing Music Podcast is sponsored by Izotope, Antares (Auto Tune), Sweetwater, Plugin Boutique, Lauten Audio, Filepass, & CanvaThe Mixing Music Podcast is a video and audio series on the art of music production and post-production. Before David's startled gaze the newcomer placed his right hand to his left shoulder and removed the left arm. He then proceeded to dismember himself until only a torso, head and one arm remained. The Artificial Man by Clare Winger Harris. That's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast.A new debut on the podcast today: the first woman to publish science fiction stories under her own name in the pulp magazines. While Francis Stevens—born Gertrude Barrows Bennett—was a trailblazer often credited as the first female science fiction writer, she published under the ambiguous name “G. M. Barrows,” using initials that concealed her gender.Clare Winger Harris didn't hide hers. When her first short story, The Runaway World, appeared in the July 1926 issue of Weird Tales, it was credited openly to Mrs. F. C. Harris.Born in Freeport, Illinois in 1891, Clare came from a distinguished background. Her mother, Mary Stover Winger, was the daughter of D. C. Stover, the town's wealthiest man, a renowned inventor and industrialist. Her father, Frank S. Winger, was an electrical contractor and a science fiction writer himself, having published The Wizard of the Island; or, The Vindication of Prof. Waldinger in 1917.Between 1926 and 1933, Harris wrote a dozen science fiction short stories and one novel. In the late 1930s, she moved to Pasadena, California, where she lived modestly and sometimes worked as a switchboard operator to make ends meet.Remarkably, just a year before her death in 1968, she inherited a quarter of her grandfather's estate—valued at over two million dollars. Though he had passed away in 1908, the estate had been tied up in court battles for nearly sixty years. We will find today's story in the very first issue of Science Wonder Quarterly in the fall of 1929, on page 78, The Artificial Man by Clare Winger Harris…Next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, When a skeptical professor steps into the mind of a former student's fiancée, he discovers a surreal landscape shaped by vanity, obsession, and alarming emptiness. A sharp and unsettling exploration of how our inner worlds reveal far more than we intend. The Shoddy Lands by C. S. After more than four decades of silence, Parabon Nanolabs and cutting-edge genetic genealogy are reigniting public interest in three men who were—separately and confusingly—all referred to as the ‘Freeway Killer': Patrick Kearney, William Bonin, and Randy Kraft. Kraft, convicted of 16 murders in California, is suspected of killing dozens more young men across the West Coast—often targeting Marines, hitchhikers, and teenagers. Many of his victims, if his infamous “scorecard” is to be believed, likely remain unidentified to this day.In this episode, we examine the recent identifications of Larry Eugene Parks and Michael Ray Schlict—both previously known only as John Does. Their cases, reopened thanks to advances in DNA technology and genetic genealogy, mirror the disturbing patterns seen in Randy Kraft's known crimes: victims hogtied, drugged, mutilated, and left near highways like I-5. We explore the haunting evidence that investigators believe may link Kraft to these cold cases—including personal belongings, drug traces, and the cryptic list of coded names that earned him his nickname: the “Scorecard Killer.”If you're drawn to forensic breakthroughs, unsolved murders, and the darkest corners of the 1970s and '80s true crime landscape, this case will stay with you.Visit our website! Awakening isn't about arriving somewhere new; it's about coming home to the truth of who we've always been and stepping into a more expansive version of ourselves. In this episode, I'm joined once again by my friend and mentor, Karen Garvey, for an engaging conversation about the process of enlightenment. Together, we explore what it truly means to spiritually awaken, why the path is rarely a straight line, and how even when we fall back into old patterns, the light and awareness we've touched never truly leave us. Since 2014, Ryan Holiday's The Daily Stoic newsletter has landed in inboxes every single morning, offering ancient wisdom in bite-size, highly clickable form. It's also a masterclass in content marketing. In this episode, we're unpacking what B2B marketers can learn from The Daily Stoic with the help of Amanda Dyson, VP, Head of Marketing at FourKites.Together, we explore how to break the marketing mold, why the most impactful content is also the most practical, and how anchoring your message in core values makes it stick. Stoicism isn't just a philosophy; if done right, it's a blueprint for modern marketing.About our guest, Amanda DysonWith 20 years B2B software and SaaS marketing expertise, Amanda specializes in go-to-market strategy; consultative marketing; change and people management; lead generation; account based marketing; partner co-marketing; integrated digital marketing; email marketing; live and virtual events; corporate branding and storytelling; account segmentation and targeting; project and budget management, and strategic advisement.Amanda has run regional and global teams. She has a passion for people and results and a proven track record of success delivering on KPIs and OKRs. She has held successively responsible, cross-functional leadership positions in sales and marketing, including alliances, partnership marketing, ABM, demand generation, field marketing, solutions marketing, events, communications, and corporate marketing for global Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software companies.A California girl at heart, Amanda happily resides in Charlotte, North Carolina with her family of five. When she's not growing people or pipeline at leading tech companies, she enjoys spending time with her family in the mountains or at the beach, running daily, and practicing mindfulness. Amanda has an MBA from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University with a focus in Marketing, Finance and Supply Chain, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Economics with a Minor in Professional Writing from the University of California, Santa Barbara. What B2B Companies Can Learn From Ryan Holiday's The Daily Stoic Newsletter:Break the marketing mold. Stoicism may be ancient, but Ryan Holiday has made it feel new and modern. Amanda sees that reinvention as a creative north star. She says, “Let's do something wild. Some of my favorite marketing campaigns have just been weird stuff. It breaks the mold and it gets something done.” Ryan Holiday didn't market stoicism by copying academic textbooks, he made it approachable and surprising. B2B marketers should do the same. Surprise earns attention. A little weirdness, done with purpose, goes a long way.Make it usable, not just insightful. Ryan Holiday's greatest trick isn't sounding smart, it's making stoicism actionable. Amanda says, “He does things in such a bite-size, practical way that you can hold onto it.” That's exactly how B2B content should work. Don't just publish thought leadership that nods at trends. Give your audience tools they can actually apply. Teach them something they'll remember at 4 PM on a chaotic Tuesday. If it doesn't help them do their job better, it's just noise.Anchor your content in core values. The Daily Stoic isn't random. It's rooted in four core tenets: courage, temperance, justice, and wisdom. Amanda draws the parallel for marketers: “It's all fostered and rooted in these core values or the stoic virtues, which you could look at your brand pillars in the same kind of light.” B2B content should be more than campaign-deep. When your content reflects your company's true values, it resonates longer and travels farther. Think less about filling the calendar, and more about reinforcing what you stand for. Quotes*“ I really challenge my teams to get back to storytelling. You gotta break out of the box, so let's do something wild. Some of my favorite marketing campaigns I've ever done have just been weird stuff: bobbleheads, robots on the beach. Random things that are not B2B software, but it breaks the mold and it gets something done. I think Ryan's done that with his marketing of stoicism. He's broken the mold, right? He reinvigorated this ancient philosophy, and so that's definitely a lesson I think we can learn from him too on content.”*“ So we are all about how do we take one thing and reuse it in different ways. I think if we look at Ryan and his newsletter, I kind of mentioned his repetition. I don't think he sends the exact same newsletter, you know, multiple times. But there's certainly similar messages where you can go back in your archives and dig those things up again and present it in a different way. Content is huge. It drives, internally and externally, all of our activities. But you gotta be really smart about how you do it and how you use it, 'cause you're competing with so much noise. It can definitely be challenging to again break that mold.”*“ Something that makes him a tremendous marketer is that he really believes in what he's selling us, right? He's created this brand that is a lifestyle. Stoicism is a philosophy, so there's a lot of high value attached to it and how you live your life.”Time Stamps[0:55] Meet Amanda Dyson, VP, Head of Marketing at FourKites[00:58] Why Ryan Holiday's The Daily Stoic Newsletter[03:04] The Role of VP, Head of Marketing at Four Kites[04:18] Origins of Ryan Holiday's The Daily Stoic[09:27] Understanding Tucker Max[13:12] Stoicism 101: Old Ideas for Modern Chaos[20:23] Building a Daily Ritual[22:21] Strategies for Writing Like a Pro[25:35] Inspiration as a Driver for Your Content[35:55] Creating Marketing Tactics That Actually Matter[39:00] FourKites' Content Strategy[40:31] What's Working for Amanda Now?[44:15] Measuring ROI at Four Kites[49:49] Advice for Marketing Leaders[51:27] Final Thoughts and TakeawaysLinksConnect with Amanda on LinkedInLearn more about FourKitesAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company. Few embody this more than Prof. Alan Arthur Tratner, who helped organize the very first Earth Day in 1970 and has since built a global legacy supporting green entrepreneurs and inventors.Alan's work reminds me that bold action in the face of crisis can spark lasting transformation. In today's episode, he shared the story of rushing to the oil-soaked beaches of Santa Barbara after the catastrophic 1969 spill, an experience that moved him to tears and propelled him into environmental activism. “I broke down, fell on my knees and cried... and then I just said we've got to stop this. We have to find a way to do it,” Alan recalled. That determination led him to found Green2Gold, a unique non-profit incubator that has nurtured over 100,000 inventors, entrepreneurs and more than 300 non-profits focused on environmental and social responsibility. Alan's approach is rooted in the belief that innovation can solve the problems it helped create. “We invented our way into this mess, we could innovate and invent our way out,” he explained. One of the most compelling aspects of Alan's work is his early embrace of investment crowdfunding. He recognized that democratizing access to capital could accelerate the development of climate solutions. “Equity crowdfunding was the democratization of investing. No longer did you have to be wealthy or be in power... anyone in the world, accredited or unaccredited, could invest in an American company,” Alan said.Through Green2Gold's programs, Alan continues to champion breakthrough technologies in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture and disaster recovery. His “Build Back Green” project, for instance, emerged in response to the devastating wildfires in Lahaina and now provides a blueprint for rebuilding communities in sustainable, resilient ways.If you're inspired by Alan's vision or want to learn more about Green2Gold's work, visit green2gold.org. For entrepreneurs and inventors seeking support—or anyone interested in investing in a better world—Alan and Green2Gold are showing what's possible when we put creativity and collective action to work for the planet.tl;dr:Alan Tratner shared his journey from the first Earth Day to launching the Green2Gold impact incubator. He described the critical role of innovation and entrepreneurship in addressing environmental crises worldwide.Alan emphasized the power of equity crowdfunding to democratize investment for green ventures and climate solutions. He highlighted the importance of perseverance, creativity and passion for lasting impact in nonprofit and business work.Alan offered actionable advice for aspiring changemakers to lead with purpose and build sustainable ventures. How to Develop Creative Problem-Solving As a SuperpowerAlan's superpower lies in the fusion of creativity, scientific thinking and practical experience. As he described, “I think that creative spark, that passion, you know, I try to give our entrepreneurs and our nonprofits the same feelings about... inventing in the fields that are going to make a difference.” He credits his background in science, art and design, as well as years of nonprofit leadership and invention, for giving him a “quiver of superpowers” that enable him to help others become problem solvers and critical thinkers.Illustrative Story:Alan shared how he has supported over 315 nonprofits and 100,000 entrepreneurs through Green2Gold by applying his expertise in nonprofit management, invention and funding. For years, he persisted with a wind turbine invention that was ahead of its time, waiting 45 years for the right moment to see it realized. He emphasized that passion and perseverance are crucial. “If you quit, you can't win,” Alan said, reflecting on the decades he devoted to innovations that now have renewed relevance.Actionable Tips for Developing Creative Problem-Solving:Treat your venture or nonprofit as a passionate career, not just a hobbyPut your whole self—brain, energy and opportunities—into your missionEmbrace challenges and persist through setbacks; don't give up if progress is slowSurround yourself with people who share your passion and driveThink entrepreneurially, even in nonprofit work, to build sustainability and legacyBy following Alan's example and advice, you can make creative problem-solving a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. In this jam-packed Tuesday edition of The Daily Herold, Jon Herold dives into a whirlwind of hot-button stories, headlined by bombshell revelations about President Biden's cognitive decline and the unelected inner circle, dubbed the “Politburo”, allegedly running the White House. Herold breaks down the implications for constitutional authority, elder abuse allegations, and the legitimacy of Biden-era policies signed with an auto-pen. Trump's latest moves also dominate the show, from his pardon of Sheriff Scott Jenkins to threats of defunding California over trans athletes, nuking Harvard's federal contracts, and tightening student visa protocols via social media vetting. Jon adds his own firebrand critique of foreign student priorities and bloated education spending. Other stories include Trump Media's $2.5B Bitcoin treasury plan, the FBI reopening high-profile cases (like the Supreme Court leak and the J6 pipe bomber), and RFK Jr. axing COVID vaccine guidance for healthy children and pregnant women. Herold also warns of AI's existential risk, revisits the Amazonian tribe suing over porn allegations, and roasts a viral Starbucks meltdown. As always, it's equal parts humor, outrage, and sharp analysis, wrapped in Herold's signature no-nonsense delivery.
