Bruce Praet is a well-known name in law enforcement, especially in California. He co-founded a company called Lexipol that contracts with more than 95 percent of police departments in the state and offers its clients trainings and ready-made policies.In one of Praet's online training webinars, he offers a piece of advice that policing experts have called inhumane. It's aimed at protecting officers and their departments from lawsuits.After police kill someone, they are supposed to notify the family. Instead of delivering the news immediately, Praet advises officers to first ask about the person who was killed to get as much unflattering information as possible. Reporter Brian Howey started looking into this advice when he was with the Investigative Reporting Program at UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism. This week on Reveal, he delves into his finding that officers have been using this tactic across California. Jay-Z sued attorney Tony Buzbee in Los Angeles Superior Court, accusing him of extortion and defamation after Buzbee had publicly named him as a suspect in a sexual assault allegation tied to the broader Diddy scandal. The lawsuit stemmed from demand letters Buzbee sent in late 2024, suggesting Jay-Z rape accusations would be pursued unless mediated—claims Jay-Z called blackmail. In July 2025, a judge dismissed Jay-Z's suit, concluding the demand letters and Buzbee's public statements were protected speech under California's anti‑SLAPP laws and did not meet the legal definition of extortion or defamation.Meanwhile, Tony Buzbee's hotline for alleged Diddy victims remains operational and continues to receive calls. According to the Los Angeles Times, roughly 500 protesters arrived at the scene to voice their displeasure with the raid, some ultimately resorting to violence—one demonstrator even firing a pistol at federal law enforcement officers. 3:40pm- On Friday, President Donald Trump visited Kerrville, Texas to speak with survivors and first responders who recounted last week's devastating flash floods.
