SPOILER ALERT Christopher Nolan made The Odyssey, and somehow the loudest movie of the year is about a guy who just wants to go home. This week on Thumb War, we're joined by Dan to break down Nolan's massive Greek mythology epic: Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, Samantha Morton, Elliot Page, Charlize Theron, gods, monsters, boats, gongs, suitors, and one dog scene that nearly destroyed us. We talk about the IMAX spectacle, the punishing Dolby sound mix, the score, the Cyclops, the Sirens, Calypso, Athena, the suitor massacre, Tom Holland's eternal Spider-Man baby face, Matt Damon's “smart guy” energy, and whether this is actually top-three Nolan. Jason went in dreading The Odyssey. Rachel saw it twice and would apparently go again. Dan elevated the show, as usual. Full spoiler review is up now. "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. Produced by Columbia Pictures, Marvel Studios, and Pascal Pictures, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, it is intended to be the 38th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the fourth film in the MCU Spider-Man film series. The film is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton ("Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings"), written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. After hitting the reset button on Peter Parker's life following the events of "No Way Home," the film is meant to mark the start of a brand-new trilogy with a different direction, tone, and stage of evolution for Peter Parker and the MCU as a whole. Destin Daniel Cretton was kind enough to spend some time speaking with us following some preview footage about the highly anticipated film, which you can listen to below. Please be sure to check out the film, which will open in theaters on July 31st as part of Phase Six of the MCU. We continue our thirteenth season of nostalgic film reviews and this week Chris chose Spider-man 2.
Take 240: What's NewBig week. Jonathan and JP are back and there's a lot to get into.List It or Nix It kicks things off with seven fresh trailers — Mayday, I Play Rocky, The Uprising, Behemoth, The Other Mommy, Bad Apples, and Doomsday all go through the gauntlet. In What We've Been Watching, Jonathan saw The Odyssey and then apparently went on a full childhood cinema tour — Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Pagemaster, Harriet the Spy, Stuart Little, Shark Tale, and Zathura. JP brings Project Hail Mary, Lawrence of Arabia, After Hours, and The Odyssey to the table, with House of the Dragon and Silo on the TV side. Then the news, and it's a good one this week. The Odyssey opened to $124.5 million domestically and $264.1 million globally — Nolan's biggest worldwide opening ever, beating The Dark Knight Rises. The only films that opened bigger this year are Toy Story 5 and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Jon Bernthal filmed the Trojan Horse sequence submerged in cold water, Nolan offered to pull him out, and Bernthal's response was essentially: try harder. The film has no real competition until Spider-Man on July 31, which gives it room to run on a $250 million budget that needs the legs. And then — the Avengers: Doomsday trailer dropped this morning. First proper look at Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Thor rallying heroes, closing with "we need a miracle" before turning around stunned at a "hey pal." Channing Tatum as Gambit. Cyclops, Mystique, Ant-Man, the Fantastic Four, the Wakandans. Tickets on sale now. Opens December 18. The SDCC Hall H panel is Saturday — further reveals expected. It's a good time to love movies.

Hi everyone! In today's episode we discuss some new Spider-Man Brand New Day news but also some of the weirdest Spider-Man powers that he has had in the comics. We also discuss which Spider-Man has had the hardest life and who we would want to live as!
This week on Gamertag Radio, Last week, Sony Pictures invited me to the Spider-Man: Brand New Day press conference with the cast and filmmakers. Truly grateful for the opportunity. Tom Holland Zendaya Jacob Batalon Sadie Sink Jon Bernthal Director Destin Daniel Cretton Producer Kevin Feige Producer Amy Pascal Here are some of the quotes from the press conference: Tom Holland on Peter's isolation: "Sometimes the bravest thing that you can do is ask for help. And he is actively ignoring that advice, and it is having a profound effect on his life..."Tom Holland on Sadie Sink: "..For me, I think Sadie is an unsung hero because she can't talk about anything, right?"Zendaya on the MJ/Peter dynamic shift: "In previous films MJ was always the pessimist and it was Peter that was always the optimist... Now that he's alone, he's kind of adopted that negativity and she's adopted his positivity without even knowing it."Jon Bernthal on protecting the Punisher: "I think what we set out to do is to make it believable that the Punisher could walk out of one of those TV-MA shows and onto this set and vice versa."Amy Pascal on the true essence of Spider-Man: "...when he is sitting on the floor by the washing machine... looking at the key to the city, which is the thing that's supposed to make him feel good about himself, and this little washing machine in this little apartment and his suit in there spinning around, I thought that is the essence of Spider-Man."Thanks once again to Sony Pictures for giving me the opportunity. I can't wait to check out the film!

Good afternoon — July 20, 2026. On this episode of Little Column A, Little Column B, hosts Will Alimonos and Zach Bishop bounce between sports, movies, and everyday absurdities. They open with the viral story of a Florida high school senior who reportedly graduated with an eye-popping 11.99 GPA after completing nearly two dozen AP classes and enough college coursework to earn an associate degree. The discussion turns into a debate about academic competition, changing GPA policies, and whether achievements like that deserve their own unique recognition. From there, the conversation shifts to the NBA, breaking down the three-team trade involving Luguentz Dort, why Oklahoma City prioritized financial flexibility, and how modern front offices increasingly value cap management as much as talent. They also dive into LeBron James rumors, Celtics-Lakers storylines, offseason speculation, and what the league's biggest stars mean for scheduling and television interest. The second half focuses on Hollywood, with a deep discussion about Marvel's future, Robert Downey Jr.'s return as Doctor Doom, nostalgia-driven storytelling, Spider-Man's importance to the MCU, and whether superhero fatigue is really about quantity over quality. The conversation expands into blockbuster movie releases, premium theater experiences, and why buying opening-weekend tickets is starting to resemble purchasing concert tickets. The show wraps up with classic "Little Column A, Little Column B" randomness: Larry David-inspired solutions to everyday annoyances, debates over traffic laws, self-driving cars, speed cameras, and the Wall Street Journal's "Million Beers" challenge. Ben and Rob shoot their webs all over 2007 to dissect the $258 million fever dream that is Sam Raimi's Spider Man 3, the movie that had four villains, a jazz club, an emo dance number, and somehow still wasn't the strangest thing Sam Raimi did that decade. We trace the making of this notoriously overstuffed threequel, from studio pressure to cramming in Venom, to Topher Grace's freakish, some may say gimpy, get up, to the reshoots and the runtime battles. Starring Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Topher Grace and Thomas Haden Church, Spider Man 3 follows Peter Parker as fame goes to his head, an alien goo goes to his hair, and Harry, Eddie and Flint Marko all queue up to ruin his week.Behind-the-scenes facts, the movie's "logic" (we use that word generously), and the eternal question of how a man can walk down the street snapping his fingers and still be the scariest version of himself in the entire franchise. All facts fully, undoubtedly researched... mostly. And finally... what does it really mean?!CONSUUUME to find out all this and much, much more!PLUS we have a Patreon with EXCLUSIVE content just for you starting at less than £2 a month - Click the link below!Find us on your socials of choice at www.linktr.ee/everymovieeverpodcast
BAD IDEAS, BROKEN BONES & ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS! With Jackass: Best and Last bringing the franchise's 25-year run to a close, Aaron Alexander & John Humphrey revisit Jackass Forever (2022) and the gloriously terrible decisions that brought Johnny Knoxville and the crew back together. In this Jackass Forever movie reaction and review, Aaron & John experience Knoxville facing another furious bull, Steve-O's honeybee beard, Danger Ehren's brutal Cup Test and bear encounter, the Silence of the Lambs prank, and one of the most outrageously graphic opening sequences ever filmed. Continuing their Jackass marathon, they react to the returning legends, the fearless new cast, the tributes to Ryan Dunn, and the painful camaraderie that carries into Jackass: Best and Last. This week on Fantastic Forum, we are taking a closer look at one of Marvel's most intriguing new limited series as Spider-Man, the Hulk, and the Punisher collide in an adventure decades in the making. In the spotlight is Spider-Man: Long Way Home #1 from Marvel Comics, written by Jonathan Hickman with art by Adam Kubert. Set in an earlier era of the Marvel Universe, before Frank Castle becomes the Punisher and when the Hulk is little more than a rumor, the story follows Peter Parker, Bruce Banner, and Frank Castle as they race through the jungles of South America in pursuit of a newly created Cosmic Cube developed by A.I.M. Each man has his own reasons for wanting the artifact, but only one can keep its unimaginable power from falling into the wrong hands. With Hickman weaving together three iconic Marvel characters and Kubert delivering the dynamic storytelling he's known for, we are breaking down whether this ambitious new series is the next must-read Marvel event. Spider-Man star J.K. Simmons and Tom Brittney join Nerdtropolis Mayor Sean Tajipour on Reel Insights to talk about The Westies, the gritty new MGM+ crime drama premiering July 12. Brittney has also recently been linked by unconfirmed reports to the DCU's future Batman role, while Simmons remains one of the most recognizable comic book actors through Spider-Man, Invincible and The Legend of Korra. In The Westies, Simmons plays Eamon Sweeney, the old-school leader fighting to maintain control of his criminal empire. Brittney plays Jimmy Roarke, a younger and more rebellious member of the organization who represents a generation hungry to change how business is done.Simmons and Brittney break down the growing conflict between the Westies' established leadership and the younger generation. They explain how control, ambition and survival create a dangerous internal struggle that could threaten the future of the entire organization. The conversation also explores why the quieter scenes can feel just as threatening as the show's violent moments. Simmons discusses using silence, listening and observation to reveal what Eamon is thinking, while Brittney opens up about Jimmy's relationship with Bridget, played by Sarah Bolger, and how their private moments offer a different side of his character.Simmons also explains his approach to researching the real Westies. Because Eamon and Jimmy are fictional characters created for the series, he focused on lifting the characters from the page instead of trying to imitate specific historical figures. The interview closes with Simmons and Brittney revealing one of the show's most unexpected elements: its dark humor. They discuss how Irish gallows humor brings moments of light into an otherwise brutal world and why humor becomes essential when the dramatic stakes are so high.Plus, Simmons delivers the ultimate compliment by calling Nerdtropolis “the best word in the history of words.”Visit Nerdtropolis.comFacebook.com/nerdtropolisInstagram.com/nerdtropolisTwitter.com/nerdtropolisTikTok.com/@nerdtropolis

Todd McFarlane is a legend in the comic world—co-creator of Venom, record-breaking Spider-Man artist, and the mind behind Spawn. But what does he really think about God? In this candid conversation, Todd opens up about his journey, his doubts, and why he once said, “I will never believe in God.” We also dive into creativity, comics, and the deeper questions behind the stories that shape culture. This conversation is a bonus on the Think Biblically podcast and first appeared on Sean's YouTube channel here.Todd McFarlane, the creator of Spawn, is a multi-faceted artist and businessman with a broad range of experience in entertainment, sports, and publishing.==========Think Biblically: Conversations on Faith and Culture is a podcast from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University, which offers degrees both online and on campus in Southern California. Big news out of Marvel Comics today: Stephen Wacker has been named the company's new Editor-in-Chief. Given all the executive changes Marvel has gone through in recent years, it's encouraging to see someone with deep comic book experience taking the reins of the publishing line.Wacker's résumé extends well beyond editing comics. In addition to overseeing some of Marvel's biggest publishing initiatives, he also served as Vice President of Marvel Animation and later as Vice President of Marvel New Media, helping guide projects like the Marvel Audio Universe on SiriusXM, including Wolverine and other serialized Marvel audio dramas. To celebrate the news, we're going back to this 2012 Word Balloon conversation with Stephen. It's a fascinating snapshot of Marvel during one of its most creative periods. We talk about the birth of Spider-Man's Brand New Day era, Dan Slott's early run on Amazing Spider-Man, Greg Rucka's Punisher, and Mark Waid's acclaimed Daredevil. Stephen also gets into the weeds on major crossover events like Spider-Island, Shadowland, and DC's The New 52, while pulling back the curtain on Marvel's creator retreats and the collaborative process behind building the Marvel Universe.Ok, yes, this conversation is now more than a decade old, but I think it still provides a valuable window into how Steve Wacker thinks about comics—how he approaches storytelling, editorial decisions, and working with creators. Until I have the chance to sit down with him again, this interview answers a lot of the questions newer readers may have about the philosophy and instincts of the man now leading Marvel Comics. Enjoy this 2012 conversation with Marvel's new Editor-in-Chief, Stephen Wacker.

Tim and Frank take on a deceptively simple question: is Spider-Man actually a street-level superhero?
