The bloody-minded villain here, Kree Suprema Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton), exists as a direct consequence of Carol's actions. Dar-Benn's quest for vengeance leads to the trio's powers becoming entangled and sets them all on a collision course. Ashton's performance is an ironic juxtaposition to Captain Marvel because her tunnel vision mirrors the more withdrawn Danvers before breaking her Kree chains. It's a cold intensity that's easy to overlook amongst the chaotic action and more outsized emotions of the other women. Some may read it as a weakness of the character design, but others will peep the sly commentary in their byplay.  The Marvels lays groundwork for the way beneath the surface of these complex women (as well as the franchise). But don't expect the story to linger and dig into all the emotional turmoil and revelations. This is the beginning of the journey, and these women have layers. I went far beyond what I ever believed was possible for my body."   Larson's casting as Captain Marvel was officially announced back in July 2016 as part of Marvel Studios' Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Like other stars who have joined the MCU, the Oscar-winning actress trained hard in the lead-up to her debut.    She chronicles her fitness milestones — like pushing a nearly 5,000 pound Jeep while her trainer, Jason Walsh, was inside — on Twitter, Instagram, and her YouTube channel and has continued to give fans insight into her exercise routines.    "Being able to hip thrust 400 pounds, deadlift 200 pounds, push my trainer's Jeep, I mean, it's an incredible experience to realize what's inside of you is well beyond what you knew was possible," Larson said. "And I have Carol to thank for that."   "That's part of why it's no surprise to me that this character has been able to reverberate outward, because she first and foremost changed my life," she added. "So it makes sense to me that she could change other lives too."   Larson made her first appearance as the superhero in 2019's "Captain Marvel" and reprised the role later that year for "Avengers: Endgame." Most recently, she appeared in the mid-credits scene for "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings."   Larson will return for a "Captain Marvel" sequel called "The Marvels," currently set for release on February 17, 2023.   The actress couldn't share too many details about the standalone sequel but told Insider that she spent "many months" training.    Larson said that it's difficult to pinpoint exactly how much time she dedicated to workout specifically for "The Marvels" because she doesn't stop training anymore.   Instead, fitness has become an ongoing, "huge part" of her regular routine.     Still, the actress said that her training for the upcoming film "definitely pushed me further" because she had "different goals" this time around.     "I wasn't gonna try to break my deadlifting record or hip thrust record," Larson explained. "To me, it felt like I had done that. I wanted to focus on new challenges."   Just as Carol's powers have been evolving throughout her time in the MCU, so have Larson's real-life capabilities.    "In the first film she's developing that strength, and so I was developing my own personal strength with this one," the actress said. "She's already got more mastery over her powers. She can fly now. And so having my body more limber, more ready for these types of movements like wirework, which I didn't have to do as much on the first one, was the main goal."   Larson, who's promoting her multi-year partnership with Nissan and the brand's 2022 Super Bowl ad, said that she primarily focused on being able to execute everything required of her, making sure that "my body was just a tool, a machine that could be thrown into whatever."   The "Unicorn Store" star said that her "main goal" was to be able to do a one-arm pull-up. Within a few months of practicing, she was able to perform it on her left and right arms. Then she set a new goal — a one-arm push-up — and "sure enough," she got the hang of it.    "I just started to get kind of obsessed with it," Larson said. "When people say like, 'Oh, girls can't do that,' it just makes me wanna do it even more. So there were huge accomplishments this time and I just feel like my body's just getting more and more used to this and more and more excited. Now, it feels weird to not train. Since it was first confirmed back in 2019, we've had a trickle of casting news — Jameela Jamil finally confirming her long-rumored villain role in June last year, with Tim Roth mentioning his return as Abomination a number of times — and, back in September 2020, Kat Coiro was attached to direct.   Collider's Christina Radish spoke to Coiro ahead of her fourth movie, the J-Lo led Marry Me, and of course, couldn't turn up the opportunity to dig for some She-Hulk news. First of all: how did Coiro land the job, and what is the secret to landing such a high-profile gig as one in the MCU?   "It was a huge and involved process," the director told us, noting that she was already a giant fan of the She-Hulk comic book series and went all-out trying to land the gig when she found out the show was being made. In her words:   "I'm a huge fan of the MCU, and I was actually a giant fan of the She-Hulk comics, so when I heard they were making it, I went full court press and really sold myself as the person to bring this story to life. It was a huge and involved process. Marvel is one of the most collaborative environments in the world. Even though he's producing so many things, Kevin [Feige], and Lou [D'Esposito] and Victoria [Alonso] and Brad [Winderbaum], have such a hand in everything. The process was really about getting on the same page and making sure that we were like-minded. It's never about anybody's ego. It's about bringing these stories to life. It was a long process, but those processes to get a job become very easy when you're really passionate about the material, which I was in the case of that one."   "I can't say very much about the show, but I'm really happy with it. At the time, Marvel Studios said Wright's injury would ultimately not impact the shooting schedule of the film.   After the injury, Wright left for London, where the star has been since, while the production shot around her character, Shuri, the sister of Black Panther T'Challa. Wright's Shuri became a fan-favorite breakout in the 2018 blockbuster, which grossed $1.3 billion and won three Oscars. When star Chadwick Boseman died from cancer in August 2020, the character was elevated as the lead of the sequel.   Wakanda Forever had been filming mostly in Atlanta for the last two months. Director Ryan Coogler is said to have shot all footage that his crew is able to without Wright.   Sources say the production is taking the hiatus to reconfigure the shoot to get things back on track for an early 2022 restart. The shutdown is expected to begin the week of Thanksgiving.   “Letitia has been recovering in London since September from injuries sustained on the set of Black Panther 2 and is looking forward to returning to work early 2022,” a representative for Wright said in a statement to THR. “Letitia kindly asks that you keep her in your prayers.”   Marvel already pushed back the release of Wakanda Forever in October, moving it from July 8, 2022, to Nov. 11, 2022. Chloé Zhao has spoken on this movie having the first true love story of the franchise , and that is evident in Ikaris and Sersi's late-night escapade in the Babylonian desert.   This carnal outing, along with Phastos' sexuality, has gotten the film in some hot water internationally. Eternals has been banned in certain markets because of this material with Disney denying requests to censor the project. Well, it seems an edited version of the film will see the light of day in some markets, but not others.   According to Deadline , an edited version of Eternals will release in various middle eastern markets like Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates. This censored cut will remove any instances of intimacy, whether they be hetero or gay. This practice is common in these markets.   While it is a bummer that Disney has to edit the film to work in some markets, it is not as bad as it seems. Some will look at this headline, see it as the House of Mouse caving into a certain part of the world, and take to their Twitter accounts. But that isn't necessarily the case here.   Marvel Studios has already said it will not bend to a few requests of extreme censorship on the project. In places like Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Oman, the studio was asked to make further cuts not only pertaining to the intimacy shown in the film, thus those nations were not issued distribution certificates.   Other middle eastern countries like Kuwait and Qatar have problems with depictions of prophets, gods, and other theological beings, so that is the reason the film will not be playing there.   Disney+   [20:38] Marvel Cinematic Universe Titles Arrive on Disney+ in IMAX's Expanded Aspect Ratio https://www.marvel.com/articles/movies/imax-expanded-aspect-ratio-mcu-disney-plus Want MORE out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? "Our 10th episode was a more light, upbeat Tony Stark episode," she says. "I noticed on Twitter we're getting a lot of crap for killing Tony a lot. He has become the Kenny of the What If…? universe by accident."   The episodes have mirrored the comics by ending on cliffhangers that each tease a larger story. And it seems that all of those threads may actually come together in the season's final episode. It's also possible that the already announced second season could follow up on certain stories, while new methods of remotely making animated series may help the show to avoid the issues the pandemic has posed and craft longer episodes. For now, however, the show does still have one limit: the MCU.   What If...? TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich previously suggested the series had been delayed until early a 2022 delay. Film insider Amit Chaudhari recently stated that the series was set to hit Disney+ in February.     Disney+ Removes Hayley Atwell's Agent Carter Short Film https://thedirect.com/article/disney-plus-removal-hayley-atwell-agent-carter-short-film Marvel Studios' Agent Carter One-Shot was completely removed from Disney+, seemingly across all territories.   In mid-September 2021, Marvel Studios' Agent Carter One-Shot was added to Disney+ within its own special section/page . Beforehand, the short could only be found in Iron Man 3 's EXTRAS section; Agent Carter has been removed there as well.   There doesn't seem to be any clear indication as to why Disney+ would remove a section solely dedicated to the Agent Carter One-Shot.   The One-Shot originally appeared on the 2013 DVD and digital release of Iron Man 3 and gave some brief insight into how Peggy eventually started up what viewers knew as SHIELD. From there, the Agent Carter ABC show was also born, spanning two seasons on the television network .   On its own, the One-Shot exemplifies the brilliance of Atwell's character; it reminds viewers of why she is now a returning force to the franchise and re-emphasizes her importance to MCU lore as a whole .   It's possible that its removal could have been nothing more than in preparation for bigger and better things to come for Peggy; maybe the streaming service pulled the gun and wants to highlight her more so down the line, possibly aligning with the Season 1 finale of What If...? .   Video Games   https://gamerant.com/marvel-vs-capcom-2-disney-capcom-revival-discussion-report/ This campaign to bring back Marvel Vs. This caught the attention of Digital Eclipse, a studio that has worked with both Disney and Capcom to remaster some of its old games. Studio head Mike Mika showed his support for re-releasing the game, along with giving the game a proper remaster treatment. Fortunately, the excellent film did not provide many significant problems, but this felt only like luck, since the film did not appear to take Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. into account: seemingly implying that Fury and Coulson barely knew each other in 1995 (the show established Fury recruited and supervised Coulson in 1982), and having Coulson mention the Kree (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 1 involved him not knowing who the Kree were – fortunately, the T.A.H.I.T.I. protocol erased Coulson's memory of everything to do with his resurrection, and with Kree being a key part, they would naturally have also been wiped).   The perfect casting of Mahershala Ali as Blade also unfortunately further drove the false narrative online, with people claiming that it meant the shows were “confirmed” non-canon due to Ali already having an MCU role as Cottonmouth. While this was an Internet overreaction given there are other examples of dual casting, the dual casting quirk not being acknowledged felt concerning.   It admittedly did not help that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 6 set itself a year after Avengers: Infinity War and Marvel's Runaways: Season 3 took its timeline through to post-Avengers: Infinity War 2018 dates, yet unfortunately neither referenced the Snap.   A 2019 quote from Mr. Feige, which fairly described the Disney+ shows as the first time TV would truly connect back and forth with the films, was falsely run by sites as “confirmation” that the other shows were not part of the MCU. This quote has been weaponised and referenced ad nauseum for 2 years.   The Darkhold would appear in WandaVision with no link to Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D./Marvel's Runaways   The fan reaction to the Darkhold and Mobius scenes has also led to upsetting incidents where creators such as Jac Schaeffer and Michael Waldron are asked questions they are seemingly, understandably, not informed to answer, giving confused and accidentally damaging quotes.   Cannon Impact:   There are other great Marvel shows, e.g. Legion, but these have nowhere near the power or lasting impact in my heart simply by virtue of not being part of this world.   The MCU family is such a wonderful thing, but right now, Television-inclusive fans don't feel like we're welcome in that family anymore.   Mooted “Possibilities”   If the Inhuman Royal Family needed to be rebooted within the MCU… it would not be the worst thing imaginable.   The idea of being an extricable part of the MCU does not apply to Marvel's Iron Fist       There is precedent with Star Wars for wiping canon, but there it was motivated by a need to free the storytelling. The Marvel Television MCU shows are not particularly restrictive. Most things can be picked up on fairly easily, perhaps at most needing a couple of throwaway setup lines.   Alternate Universe: The shows aren't novelty What If…? type stories, e.g. “What If… Phil Coulson Were Resurrected?”, made to be a separate little alternate story – but born and bred as parts of building, developing, growing, interweaving the beautiful main MCU world and timeline.   Some Hopes Recently, Mr. Feige made the comment, “Everything is on the board. That's one of the fun things about the comics is that characters would appear and disappear and come and go […] There are some great characters and actors from those shows.” This exciting quote bears similarity to previous remarks of Mr. Feige's, such as, “All of those things inhabit, however far on the outskirts, the same continuity, so certainly that opportunity [to integrate those characters] exists.”   Eternals Earns PG-13 Rating https://www.filmratings.com/Search?filmTitle=eternals&x=0&y=0 https://www.cbr.com/marvel-eternals-rating-description/ FilmRatings.com's breakdown of the rating describes Eternals as including "fantasy violence and action, some language and brief sexuality." It's the latter element that has fans raising their eyebrows, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's movies having avoided sexual content since Disney acquired Marvel Entertainment in 2009.   Unlike MCU movies past, romance is said to play a key role in the film's narrative. It even features a love triangle between on-again, off-again Eternal couple Ikaris (Richard Madden) and Sersi (Gemma Chan) and Dane Whitman (Kit Harington), the mortal human who's dating Sersi when the movie picks up in the present.   The "brief sexuality" could also allude to a scene with Thena (Angelina Jolie), an Eternal warrior who becomes romantically involved with the Deviant Kro in Marvel's comics books. Perhaps tellingly, the final Eternals trailer shows Kro ensnaring Thena with his tendril-like appendages in an oddly intimate fashion, possibly alluding to the pair being in love.   Even more intriguing, Eternals is confirmed to include an onscreen kiss between the Eternal Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) and his husband (Haaz Sleiman), which begs the question: will the movie be daring enough to feature a sexual moment involving a queer couple? Kate is going on to bigger and better things, so the director search will begin shortly.”   As for when Loki Season 2 might start filming, Feige promised he's “not being evasive” but said he's “not sure exactly where it falls between next year and the year after.” So production could begin as soon as 2022, or it might not go before cameras until 2023, which means an even longer wait until it's on Disney+.   Loki was not originally planned as an ongoing series, but the decision to make a second season was made during production, which led to some tweaks to the final episode. After the finale of Loki aired, reports surfaced that Hiddleston will be seen as Loki in the feature film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So it's possible that whatever Loki Season 2 is is tied to how the multiverse unfurls across the next few Marvel movies. Finding an old computer, a partial translation leads the duo to "Scav City" in search of Sphinxor; all while Carol repeatedly offers her own resources to help, which Jess repeatedly refuses. Entering the Scav City pub, Carol updates Jess on the blood tests Linda took of her, while Jessica physically intimidates people in an attempt to gain more information about the location of Sphinxor. After figuring out where he is and attaining coordinates to set a course to, Tony Stark calls Jessica to check in to check on his spaceship, as Jess previously promised to "probably" not blow it up. However, at that same time, Counter-Earth space defenses shoot the ship down. Carol flies Jessica down to a temple where they are greeted by its keepers, who reveal that the High Evolutionary previously returned to the temple by their summons but then departed to parts unknown immediately after. After Carol asks for a spacecraft, Jess grows sickly and demands more formula from a defiant Carol. The two return to Earth after Carol is called back for an imminent event, forcing an agitated Jess to part ways and find people with connections to clone-makers and serum developers— the likely contacts for Wyndham to collaborate with. Going slightly off-world, Jess finds a possible new lead to Wyndham, but after ignoring another call from Carol she looks up into the sky to see dragons, realizing that the threat the Avengers were facing had begun. We're back to wrap up our two-part Captain Marvel series with two of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe: Monica Rambeau and Carol Danvers. These are not only some of the most power female characters in the Marvel stable but two of the most powerful characters ever. We start first with Monica Rambeau, the first black female character to become a member of the Avengers. While Monica has never really had her own on-going solo series, she played a significant role on the Avengers in the 80's (even becoming Chairwoman of the group). Then we move onto the life of Carol Danvers. With the launch of Ms. Marvel in 1977, Carol not only gets super powers  but becomes Marvel's feminist icon answer to DC's Wonder Woman. Unfortunately an extremely poor decision to have Carol raped (even though the book is written as if she's not) really sets the character back. Chris Claremont takes Carol back and brings her into his X-Men book which starts Carol on her long, slow return to prominence and eventually taking the tile of Captain Marvel.
