Issue 194 - Thunderbolt Ross Intro Captain America: Brave New World reaction coming to Patreon Background (1:38) General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962) Lieutenant General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross oversees gamma bomb project that ultimately leads to the creation of the Hulk (Bruce Banner) Grew up in a military family, and was focused on serving his country from a young age - joined the Army Air Corps (later Air Force) and worked his way up through the ranks Bruce's growing relationship with Ross' daughter Betty was a source of frustration and anger for him, as was the recurring nuisance of the Hulk - Ross made it his personal mission to find and destroy the Hulk Several times he allied with villains to battle the Hulk, which ultimately led to his dismissal from the military Betty and Bruce get engaged, but the Leader turns Hulk savage, and the wedding is called off - Betty later marries Glenn Talbot, and Ross is satisfied that Banner will never be his son-in-law When Talbot was captured by the Soviets in a rescue mission to save Ross, his apparent death fractured his relationship with Betty, as well as a demotion at work because of his inability to capture the Hulk Betty divorced Talbot and revealed she still loved Bruce - enraged by this, Ross allied with MODOK to have the Abomination kill the Hulk, but Betty caught wind of the plan and accused her father of treason - he was discharged from the Air Force and nearly committed suicide When Bruce and Betty get married, Ross shows up at the wedding with a gun to stop the ceremony - Rick Jones intervenes and is shot non-fatally In a SHIELD experiment he merges with Zzzax, a being of sentient electrical energy - in a battle with a mutant, he expends his energy to save Betty, and dies His body was resurrected by the Leader, and he rejoins the Air Force After Betty is killed by the Abomination and Hulk is exiled by the Illuminati, Ross sinks into an alcoholic depression - when Steve Rogers is shot, he is visited by MODOK and the Leader and offered a chance to gain Hulk-like powers - he then becomes Red Hulk, and his first act is to kill the Abomination for murdering Betty Ross' identity as the Hulk is kept secret for over two years before being revealed during World War Hulks He later joins the Avengers, where he befriended an LMD named Annie that helped give him some perspective and understanding about things Temporarily bonds with both the Venom symbiote and the Spirit of Vengeance, becoming a being known as the Circle of Four - this is to defeat Blackheart, son of Mephisto Gets depowered by Doc Green, a super-intelligent version of the Hulk Issues - Theme is “a small river flowing long enough becomes a canyon” (7:10) When tradition becomes a trap Overprotective of his daughter (13:44) Oh yeah, the Hulk stuff (25:15) Break (29:06) Plugs for Play Comics & Geek Peak Treatment (30:19) In-universe - Out of universe - (32:37) Skit (39:51) Hello General Ross, I'm Dr. Issues. - Doctor, with all due respect, let's set the record straight. I didn't come here for treatment. I came here for a clean bill of health. I've been involved in enough government missions, secret protocols, and super-powered expeditions that I should be the last one to hide from any flaws. I'm not perfect, but I don't have to be. And that was before I learned about getting red in the face. Well, that is a hot start, General -I don't do jokes, if you don't mind. There are serious matters at hand. But you…I'll keep that in mind. Sheesh. There are always serious matters at hand. That's how the world works. That doesn't mean they all have to involve you. -Agreed. I pick my spots. But those are enormous spots. I know my enemy better than they know themselves. That's what's lacking in battles nowadays. The foe has no concept of planning. So many people think being random makes you dangerous. It just makes you a fool. Well, not to sound condescending, but I doubt all of your plans go the way you want them to. -A plan is useless. PLANNING is indispensable. Do you know who said that? Dwight Eisenhower. So you enjoy the process necessary to reach goals, and not just the goal itself. -If I didn't then I would have stopped existing a long time ago. I think people get that wrong about me. They think I'm some madman that wants to destroy the Hulk at all costs. And that was wrong…how? -I was never a madman. I'm calculating the whole way through. The heat thing says otherwise -Emotion in battle, Doctor. It's something you can't wrap your head around. Oh yeah, I get the rage, but in the fog of war, that can be the guide to see you through. No hippie woo woo love fest is going to save you when bullets are zipping and bombs are dropping. The only time you bring in God is to say “Thank God it's over” and you've won. You present more demure than expected. -You sound like one of those Gen Z types when you say that. You're a grown man. Act like it. So no social media memes; understood sir. But are you really past everything that's listed in your file? Banner? Betty? Intelligencia? Avengers? It says here your own likeness was killed! None of that sounds traumatic to you? -Of course it does. So what? We all have trauma. I used to let it eat at me, just shove it down my own throat, and let it all come out when the time is right. But with what I have now, there's no secrets. It's on my skin, in my veins, and radiating through the air. I finally found a way to have nothing to hide. My choices, my fights, my consequences. Anything to add to that? You're hitting the same note. What brings you enjoyment? How about sadness? Do you have any fears left? -You're breaking the cardinal rule; you're supposed to ask one question at a time. I'm sad that too many people think too small for their entire lives. I find joy in being one of the few living creatures to destroy multiple so-called badasses because I can adjust tactically and not be held down by magical thinking. I fear that anything less than a perfect rating in this assessment will leave me with a permanent mark that will have me use your office as a rage room. *pause* Didn't you shoot someone at your daughter's wed -*interrupting* RAGE. ROOM. You don't have to be so pushy about it. -So, are you slapping the PTSD label on like everyone else? No, I'll think outside the box and go I-G-E-D. -What the hell is that? Intermittent Gamma Explosive Disorder -*Groans* Doc Samson was right about you. The past few weeks have been a lot, I won't lie. Nothing need to know, but life does get in the way at times and this was certainly one of those times. As always, and maybe in the spirit of the anime Shoujo Heroine, we will continue moving forward with time and continue to strive to do our best, whatever that may entail on a day-to-day basis. Podcast notes to follow along with this episode: http://sensationalshegeek.weebly.com/full-archive/ep92-mando-catch-up-ch2021-secret-invasion-blue-beetle-trailers-legacy-of-big-two-female-comic-creatives-more One of the hard points recently was the news of the passing of celebrated geek, musician, actor and voice actor, Lance Reddick. The dust hasn't quite settled enough for the tribute I feel he is required, so I don't have it here on this episode. But he is due the respect of proper obituary on this podcast, so when we are ready, it will happen. In the meantime, if you have any stories of Lance, please feel free to share them wherever you can so I can add that to his tribute. Starting with Tarot 06:41, I remembered this week to give the note on Divinatory Tarot and the Like that I meant to go over last week, and the full article it came from can be found here: http://hearingshofar.blogspot.com/2010/03/aries-shofar-at-pesach.html Card of the Week for our tarot lessons continuation is #5: the Hierophant. I have the description, symbolism, meanings and interpretation, plus a bit of history and some fun pop culture references! Manga of the week 0:19:23 is, ironically, it turns out, Tokyo Demon Bride Story by TADAICHI NAKAMA! Ironic, because I also learned today that this is the last day of it's publication: the manga ends as of today, April 3rd. While it seems to have a fair amount of haters, I found it quite charming and entertaining. Tokyo Demon Bride story can be found on the Shonen Jump app. Manga News for the week 22:26 includes the MyAnimeList Ultimate List of Manga Recommendations (https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2023-03-31/myanimelist-releases-ultimate-list-of-manga-recommendations/.196585 ) as well as a number of other starts and finales. Comic Book News 25:50 is a touch heavy this week, starting with the frankly ludicrous twitter debate of Comics vs Manga, and going into the sad truth of our female creators in comics, and how their legacies are sabotaged by the publishers who hired them. The discussion came from the following tweet: https://twitter.com/ComicBookHerald/status/1636013058890903553?s=20 . We also gave some time and thought to the legacy of Carol Danvers, and how the cancellation of her series at issue 50 is NOT a good decision for anyone involved, even so much as to relate to the previous point about female Big Two creators. Plus I have some King/Sampere Wonder Woman thoughts, which I don't think anyone will have an answer for until her landmark 800th issue. I talk a bit about the kick-off's from 3/22 0:37:49 plus some of what was new this past week, 3/29. As always, this is only a tiny fraction of all comic releases each week, so be sure to contact your local comic purveyor for the full details on what you may be interested in! Comics are, as always, for everyone. We get into the TV/MOVIES segement 0:41:31 ith what's New and Noteworthy lately, including Yellowjackets season 2, Wellmania, Unstable (wow, bit of trend here, eh?), School Spirits, and more. We're back to having a PROPER News/Announcements segment this week, starting with the RUMORS: 48:13, then MCU: 51:59 including the leaving of Victoria Alonso and Ike Perlmutter, Secret Invasion info and theories, the necessary mentioning of changes that may come to Loki season 2's cast, Liv Tyler's Betty Ross, and the casting of Wonder Man's brother, Grim Reaper. Then DCU: 1:03:16 talking Batman 2's villain, a certain unfortunate project, and of course, the Blue Beetle trailer! Big ups and downs in the pop culture news this week, for sure. Anime News 1:06:58 has me talking Spring 2023 Lineup English Dubs (no dates! why no dates, Crunchyroll?) as well as new Anime and show announcements, including the Netflix Scott Pilgrim project, Konosuba, Re:Zero, Spy x Family, Girlfriend Girlfriend, and more! Finally, I get caught up with where we're at with the Mandalorian season 3, talking chapters 20 and 21: the Foundling and the Pirate, respectively. From space pterodactyls to HOLY SHIT I forgot to finish talking about episode 21...ummmmm oops. I'll see if I remembe to talk about the Armorer + Bo Katan next week! heh. oops. And that's it! happy to have you here. Please rate/like my episodes so they get seen by more listeners, and thank you as always for your support. Next week we'll talk card #6, the Lovers, plus a new Manga of the week, more shows and movies and Mando, more anime, and tons of fun, I hope. Welcome to the first episode of Multiverse News! We endeavour to be your one stop shop for Geeky Pop Culture news about all of the fictional universes that you love! This week! Marvel Studios has finally released some new details about upcoming projects, while behind-the-scenes drama seems to have captured the focus. Kang actor, Jonathan Majors, was arrested and charged with domestic assault and harassment, but his lawyers say they have video and witness testimony that will clear his name. Also, long-time Chief of visual effects and Post-Production at Marvel, Victoria Alonso, has filed suit against Disney after she was suddenly fired last week. Alosno claims she was fired after refusing to go along with something reprehensible and Disney says it was because of an indisputable breach of contract. And while we're reeling from all of this behind-the-scenes news, Marvel announced the return of Liv Tyler will appear in Captain America: New World Order, reprising her role as Betty Ross, from 2008's The Incredible Hulk; a writer's room is working on the WandaVision spin-off Vision Quest, and thank God we finally have a release date of June 21st for Secret Invasion on Disney Plus. Then turning to rumors, Sacha Baron Cohen is rumored to appear in three Marvel Projects as Mephisto. Deadline confirmed news that Warner Brothers is working to apply the cinematic universe idea to the Lord of the Rings franchise, which would involve rebooting the trilogy of movies. While not directly involved, director Peter Jackson has offered encouraging words about the future of the franchise. John Wick Chapter 4 achieves the best opening weekend ever for the franchise with an incredible $70 million opening weekend. This is encouraging news for movie theaters after still feeling the effects from COVID-19 shut downs. There are also talks that the spin-off movie “Ballerina,” starring Ana de Armas will release in 2024, with a spin-off series “The Continental” releasing on Peacock this year, according to Fandango. Amid the entire shakeup of DC, Shazam: Fury of the Gods opened with a fairly low box office weekend of just $30 million, With a Rotten Tomato critic score of 51% but a much more respectable 87% Audience score. Could this be the new standard for the remaining old guard DCEU movies while we await the emergence of James Gunn's DCU . The film is coupled with rumors that Shazam actor Zachary Levi and Black Adam actor Dwayne Johnson have issues working together, with Levi backing reports that Johnson blocked any use of the Shazam character in the Black Adam movie. All of this amidst reports that Tom Cruise has seen The Flash movie and loved it.. Find out more at www.StrandedPanda.com

The 2008 film The Incredible Hulk was the second film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but is one that has almost been retconned from the MCU. Lead star Edward Norton was replaced by Mark Ruffalo for future MCU films, while lead actress Liv Tyler did not feature in any of the MCU films or TV shows that followed. However, her character Betty Ross will return after 15 years in the upcoming film Captain America 4: New World Order. The film will be headlined by Anthony Mackie, who has taken over the mantle of Captain America from Chris Evans' character Steve Rogers. It is yet to be confirmed whether Betty Ross will make an appearance in Thunderbolts, as she is the daughter of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. The late William Hurt played the role of Thunderbolt Ross in The Incredible Hulk and other MCU titles, and Harrison Ford will replace Hurt in the upcoming film.
More classic books are being edited for modern sensitivities, Liv Tyler will reprise her MCU role as Betty Ross, and Led Zeppelin is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Houses of the Holy

She-Hulk is on it's way so Tony and @Klayton Fioriti got together to talk about what was once considered to be the worst superhero film ever. Some even thought it was the worst movie ever! We are here to let you know that Ang Lee's Hulk is actually underrated and is actually better than most modern superhero films! Eric Bana ("Black Hawk Down") stars as scientist Bruce Banner, whose inner demons transform him in the aftermath of a catastrophic experiment; Jennifer Connelly portrays Betty Ross, whose scientific genius unwittingly helps unleash the Hulk; Nick Nolte plays Banner's brilliant father, who passes on a tragic legacy to his son; and Sam Elliott portrays the commander of a top-secret military research center.

MCU – MARVEL STUDIOS Deadpool 3 Is on Marvel's Super-Secret Slate, Says Kevin Feige https://www.cbr.com/deadpool-3-marvel-secret-release-window-kevin-feige/ Marvel President Kevin Feige confirmed that Deadpool 3 has a spot on the Marvel Cinematic Universe release schedule -- but he's not ready to reveal it. Feige teased Deadpool 3's impending release during an episode of Comicbook.com's Phase Zero podcast when asked if Marvel had an internal release window for the film. "We do," he said. "And the script is in the works and Ryan [Reynolds] is working very hard on it with our writers as we speak." Letitia Wright injured doing Black Panther stunt https://variety.com/2021/film/news/letitia-wright-hospitalized-black-panther-wakanda-forever-1235049077/ “Letitia Wright sustained minor injuries today while filming a stunt for ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.' She is currently receiving care in a local hospital and is expected to be released soon,” a spokesperson for Marvel said in a statement to Variety. Marvel's What If Season 2 Confirmed To Include Phase 4 Movies https://screenrant.com/marvel-what-if-season-2-phase-4-movies/ In a Screen Rant exclusive interview from the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings press junket, Kevin Feige talked about season 2 of What If…?. In particular, he was asked how Phase 4 and the exploration of the multiverse will tie into What If….? Read what he had to say below: “That's the fun thing about having the What If…? series now; we can explore questions just like that,” said Feige. “And I will say, just as season 1 is tapping into films and storylines from the MCU that you've seen up to this point, season 2 will definitely incorporate movies from Phase 4.” Scarlett Johansson Slams “Misogynistic” Disney Response As Mouse House Tries To Move ‘Black Widow' Suit Behind Closed Doors – Update https://deadline.com/2021/08/scalett-johansson-disney-lawsuit-black-widow-response-arbitration-1234819262/ Disney insists Marvel's contract with Johansson provides for arbitration exactly in the event of a dispute like this one that erupted on July 29 MCU – Non-MARVEL STUDIOS Spider-Man: No Way home Trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rt-2cxAiPJk DISNEY+ Marvel Studios' ‘What If…?': Jeffrey Wright Talks Voicing Marvel's Most ‘Passionate Fan' with The Watcher https://www.marvel.com/articles/tv-shows/what-if-jeffrey-wright-the-watcher “The character's an interesting one,” he explains. “He's got these strange powers that we've never really witnessed before. He has access to these worlds, and he has a type of vision that is pretty much singular to him. There was a lot of stuff to be excited about, and to play with, and to try to figure out. The Watcher is introduced on the cover of 1963's FANTASTIC FOUR as the most dramatic being in all of the universe. If you get asked as an actor to play something like that, you kind of take interest! It's all about that drama. He's born into the Marvel Universe in an interesting way, popping out on the moon there with the Fantastic Four. I wanted to find out who he was so that I could figure out, how might he sound for the first time, hearing him?” Kevin Feige Gives Update on ‘Loki' Season 2, Says Director Search Will Begin Shortly https://collider.com/loki-season-2-update-filming-when-kevin-feige-interview/ Collider's Steve Weintraub spoke with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige during the press day for Marvel's new film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, he asked Feige for an update on Loki Season 2. The Marvel executive was characteristically tight-lipped, but did confirm development is underway and the hope is to retain much of the same team that made Season 1 of the series: “It is underway. We're developing it as we speak. The hope is that much of the same team will return. Kate is going on to bigger and better things, so the director search will begin shortly.” As for when Loki Season 2 might start filming, Feige promised he's “not being evasive” but said he's “not sure exactly where it falls between next year and the year after.” So production could begin as soon as 2022, or it might not go before cameras until 2023, which means an even longer wait until it's on Disney+. Loki was not originally planned as an ongoing series, but the decision to make a second season was made during production, which led to some tweaks to the final episode. After the finale of Loki aired, reports surfaced that Hiddleston will be seen as Loki in the feature film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So it's possible that whatever Loki Season 2 is is tied to how the multiverse unfurls across the next few Marvel movies. Shang-Chi and Eternals both appear to be fairly disconnected from the multiverse idea, but Spider-Man: No Way Home and the aforementioned Doctor Strange sequel both reportedly deal with the arrival of the multiverse pretty heavily. Bradley Episode Written by: A.C. Bradley and Matthew Chauncey Episode Directed By: Bryan Andrews One small choice can change the world! Monday. At a doughnut shop in California, S.H.I.E.L.D. Director, Nick Fury, and agent Natasha Romanoff are powerless to prevent the death of Tony Stark. Romanoff is accused of his murder, but slips away from the S.H.I.E.L.D. strike force team led by Brock Rumlow. Tuesday. In Mexico a mysterious hammer has caught the attention of S.H.I.E.L.D. Under the watchful gaze of Clint Barton the hammer's owner, with amazing hair, comes to retrieve his property as Barton fires his arrow into the heart of Thor the God of Thunder. Clint Barton is held under lock and key for his murder. Hours later, despite around the clock supervision, Clint is found dead in his cell. Later that day Loki arrives from Asgard backed up by the warriors Three and an army of Asgardians. He wants to punish the puny planet for the murder of Thor. But convinced that smaller forces are at play, Nick persuades Loki that they should work together to catch their common enemy. Wednesday, following Fury's orders, Natasha pays a visit to Doctor Betty Ross and meets Bruce Banner. During an attack from Betty's father, General Thaddeus Ross, Banner is hit by an unexpected shot. Transforming into the Hulk the misunderstood monster suddenly grows bigger until his body explodes. The Incredible Hulk and Bruce Banner are dead. Another future Avenger removed. In this episode:Mike and Ed discuss the return of Bruce Banner. Why will no one tell us where he has been? And now that he's back, is being tasked by the President to find the Hulk the best use of this super-genius' time? Also, the Hulk appears to be advancing American interests in China. Is he working for the US military like Thor, and if so, is this public display of “stopping the Hulk” just a show for plausible deniability? In this issue:In the first story, General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross tasks Bruce Banner with finding the Hulk. Meanwhile, Tyrannus, a man from ancient Roman times who has discovered the fountain of youth and lives far below the Earth's surface with an army of enslaved creatures and monsters, spies on Betty Ross and determines that she will be able to help him take over the world. And so Tyrannus ends up kidnapping Betty and, once back underground, uses her to blackmail her father Thunderbolt Ross into not attacking him when he attacks the surface world. At the same time, Bruce turns into the Hulk and goes underground with Rick Jones to investigate Tyrannus. They end up being taken prisoner by Tyrannus, who has incredible machines at his disposal, and the Hulk is thrown into the gladiatorial ring and forced to fight. The Hulk smashes free of this forced labour, but is captured again. He then escapes, along with Betty and Rick. No word on whether Tyrannus survived this odd encounter. In the second story, Bruce Banner decides to involve himself in international affairs by flying to the tiny nation of Llhasa (likely a stand-in for Tibet) as the Hulk, leaping out of an airplane in mid flight, and then taking on the Chinese army. At some point, the Hulk dresses up like the Abominable Snowman, although it is not clear why. In any event, the Hulk battles the Chinese army and defeats them.Assumed before the next episode:Everyone is wondering if the Hulk is a menace or basically a US military contractor. And debating the utility of a super powered monster involving himself in foreign affairs. This episode takes place:After the world has learned that Hulk has involved himself in international affairs. This is a public episode. If you would like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit www.superserious616.com

You won't like us when we're hungry. Did he say that right? This week we break the rules of our own universe by going outside of Disney Plus in order to stay true to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with 2008's The Incredible Hulk. We debate the difference between Ed Norton & Mark Ruffalo, inquire why we never saw Betty Ross, Abomination, or The Master in any subsequent films, and ask if it's even possible to do a good Hulk film. Also, was Ed Norton (the actor) done a disservice by Ed Norton (the writer) or do we blame the direction of Ed Norton (the director). Either way, New York never looked so much Toronto, Canada. We've got some more from out Pause for the Parks segment (with an improvised theme song) So, catch up on some great Disney content and then join the conversation (@talkthemickey), Instagram (@talkingthemickey), or on our Facebook page (@talkingthemickey). If you comment, you may end up among our 'shoutouts of the week.'

Character Corner - A Podcast on Your favorite Comic Book Characters
We're finally back with a proper Character Corner. We get back to our roots with this episode. We're not doing Creator Spotlight runs or a Comic Book Book Club. No this time we're just going to take one character and tackle their history and we go for a big one: The Hulk. Created in May of 1962 (seriously, we didn't plan on doing this episode in May, it just happened), Bruce Banner/The Hulk is an interesting character from Marvel in that his first appearance is is own solo book (Incredible Hulk #1). A lot of other big names from Marvel & DC got their first starts not in their own solo books, but as part of anthology series. The Hulk also built on the horror comics base of Marvel at that time. Modeled after Frankenstein's monster as well as Dr. Jekyll & Mr Hyde, what we see with The Hulk is a character that is written at his best when writers focus more on the horror as well as the internal psychological struggle between Banner & Hulk. Yes, "Hulk Smash" and "You wouldn't like me when I'm angry" are the things that most people focus on but in this episode we look at the runs that really highlight the various personalities and internal war between Banner & Hulk. Episode note: We don't get too much into Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk. We will do a separate episode on Walters when we get closer to the Disney+ show coming out. Key Issues: Incredible Hulk #1 - First appearance of Bruce Banner/Hulk, Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, Betty Ross and Rick Jones the universal side kick Tales to Astonish #62 - First appearance of Samuel Sterns aka The Leader Tales to Astonish #90 - First appearance of Abomination Incredible Hulk #141 - First appearance of Doc Samson the Incredible Hulk #181 - First full appearance of Wolverine The Defenders Bill Mantlo's Run: Starts with Incredible Hulk #245 Crossroads of Eternity (#300 - #313) Peter David's 12 Year run Incredible Hulk #331 - 400 JoeFixIt - Incredible Hulk #347 Incredible Hulk The End - Peter David's "final" Hulk story Planet Hulk World War Hulk World War Hulks Civil War 2 Jason Aaron's Incredible Hulk Run Al Ewings' The Immortal Hulk Like what you hear? In this episode, the Madames’ discuss 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, directed by Louis Leterrier. Edward Norton stars as Bruce Banner, our sort-of-hero. Due to accidental exposure to gamma radiation, Banner turns into a giant green monster when he gets angry. After a devastating Hulk out, Banner is hunted by the U.S. military, led by General Thunderbolt Ross, played by William Hurt. With the help of girlfriend Betty Ross, played by Liv Tyler, Banner finds his way home & faces off against another monster, The Abomination, played by Tim Roth. Join us on the journey with broody Bruce as he walks across South America & Hulk smashes his way across the eastern seaboard of the United States. The Incredible Hulk is (begrudgingly) the second film in both Phase 1 of the MCU & the Infinity Saga. Show Notes Email at themarvelousmadames@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter & Instagram

Hulk rarely uses his famous THUNDERCLAP in the MCU... but is that because a single clap would kill us all? Let's break down the science! Hulk's powerful Thunderclap is one of his most famous moves from the Marvel comics, but he has only used it in the MCU once: to extinguish a fire and save Betty Ross and Thaddeus Ross all the way back in The Incredible Hulk (2008). Not once has he used it in Avengers (2012), Avengers Age of Ultron, Avengers Infinity War, Avengers Endgame, or Thor Ragnarok... but why? In this episode of #BigQuestion, Erik Voss and Filup Molina think and drink their way out of one of the biggest mysteries of the MCU, the question of #Hulk and his destructive big-boy hands. Is this why Hulk is forbidden to attend performances of Hamilton? How many people has Hulk killed during the "everybody clap your hands" part of the Cha Cha Slide?

Following his dismissal, Bruce is annoyed with SHIELD and phones HR. During the call he is upset and complaining about the way he has been treated and mentions he wants to see information that supports the allegations made. He finishes the call by vowing to “make SHIELD sorry” for messing with him (with flecks of green appearing in his eyes)! The next day, an email is received from Betty Ross on behalf of Mr Banner requesting copies of his personnel files relating to the disciplinary offence.
In 2008 "The Incredible Hulk" began the interpretation of our current version of Bruce Banner. Edward Norton portrayed the cursed scientist as he lived his life on the run from General Ross and SHIELD. But as Ross finally corners Banner, he is forced to return to his love, Betty Ross. She helps him make contact with Mr. Blue in hopes that an antidote can be found to rid him of the Hulk forever. Trusting people can be hard when you're trying not to turn into a giant rage monster. And when Major Blonsky wants a little taste of the Hulk's strength, he turns himself into an abomination and creates a really big problem. Jay and Josh try to control their anger on their first hiatus special of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Case Files.

1:08 Dan SandersHi Sean, first time I've asked a question in ages because I'm usually too busy but I'm always listening to the podcasts, thank you for all the great content, keep up the great work. Do you think that when Captain America returned the infinity stones at the end of the film, they should have shown us footage of him seeing the red skull? I would love to have seen his reaction to seeing him there, I know the films length was already long enough and this probably is why they left it out, Also would the soul stones return not bring Natasha back to life?6:18 Brandon McCollumHey Sean, one of my favorite things about Endgame were the unexpected friendships. My personal favorite has to be Tony and Nebula. If you could team up two characters from different MCU franchises and make a movie who would you choose and why?9:27 Giuseppe VicarettiHey Sean and fellow Patrons. Do you think we could possibly see a separate Hulk story, whether it be a show or a movie, even possibly released straight to digital on Disney+, that gives us the explanation of how Hulk and Bruce came together as One during that 5 year gap? And if so how likely could it be that Mark Ruffalo comes back for it?13:19 Woo S! KimI have a question: Do you think Charles Xavier is a little ashamed of being a Mutant? I just ask because if someone wasn't a little bit ashamed of who/what they are, why would you attempt so long and so hard to accepted by another group especially ones who either despise or fear for what you are?15:02 Woo S! KimCurrently, all seasons of “Agents of Shield” are on Netflix. Within the time Disney+ launches or eight months afterward do you think all episodes “Agents of Shield” will be on Hulu or Disney+, the reason I ask is a week before the investor day I would have said “Agents of Shield” us for sure going to Hulu.” However, with the news that “Agent Carter” will be on Disney+ I am not quite sure, what say you, Sean?17:18 Alex KleinAfter Nebula doesn't come back with War Machine, she has her malfunction while Thanos is viewing the future and then runs out to the ship to try and warn Clint and Natasha. Why didn't she just use her device to go back? Thanos would never have gotten it and been able to come to the future, and clearly Clint was able to travel back by himself after Nat sacrificed herself? Obviously it was the writers choice but that seems like the Star Lord moment of this movie.20:14 CaroleI know there was a lot to cover in the Endgame Spoilers Review...BUT...I would love your comments on the Rocket and Nebula reunion at the Avengers compound. Thanks for keeping up the excellent podcast content!22:17 AlexIf Reed Richards was in the MCU earlier before Infinity War and Endgame and was among the heroes spared from being dusted to death by the snap do you think in theory MCU Reed(if they made him as smart as traditionally is in the comics) would've been just as able to figure out time-travel as much as Tony was?22:53 AlexNow that we know the time travel mechanics of the MCU do you think its either more or less likely the FF will be introduced in the MCU as time travelers from the 1960's? What potential problems do you think could arise in terms of continuity if Marvel were to head in such a direction?24:21 Jak SherlockHey Sean, hope you had an amazing End Game experience. Just had two questions regarding director's/producer's comments before the release of End Game.Firstly, wasn't it confirmed that BARF would play a role in End Game or was that just speculation? If so I didn't notice the use of BARF anywhere in the movie.Secondly, If the Russo's said that the Red Skull would be free once he oversaw the acquisition of the Soul Stone, how would Captain America have returned the stone? I know that the stones were to be taken back to the point they were originally taken, but if the sacrifice of Natasha's life is undoable, then wouldn't the Red Skull be free to leave?Apologies for the ramble! Thanks as always.29:10 AlexWhat do you think of the idea of Tony Stark inadvertently causing the increase of individuals manifesting the X-gene by reversing the effects of the decimation through the snap that cost him his life? Would you be on board for the idea or do you think Stark indirectly causing the rise of the mutant population in the MCU just makes the universe feel smaller?31:05 Jak SherlockWhen do you predict the next Avengers movie to be released? And what's your best guess for the line-up?34:26 Otto RogersDo you feel that Betty Ross should have made an appearance in Endgame considering how important she was to Banner?36:30 Otto RogersHow quickly (or do you think) we will see Cassie as Stature?38:56 Otto RogersWho do you think the leading voice of the Phase Four Avengers?40:43 David RosenHey Sean, End Game had some amazing visuals in it, especially that incredible wide shot of Cap standing alone against Thanos's army. Maybe an all time great shot. Now that there is a complete MCU to consider, what are some of your favorite similar “splash page” moments from the MCU?43:48 Mookie JohnsonI was about to ask where do you think the next Avengers Compound will be, but the better question may be is it necessary? Most if not all of the remaining heros have reasons to be elsewhere and may not be lifeers like natasha and steve were bc they had nothing else. Do you think going forward the Avengers will need to Assemble for bigger threats?48:59 Jeremy WatsonGood morning Sean and fellow Patrons! What an incredible ride that was...not just the movie, but the entire journey! After my first viewing, I felt like I was in mourning the rest of the day. Mourning for some beloved characters that were lost, but also mourning the end of an era. This was incredible and the ending was so sweet. Do you think that because Thanos was dusted and not physically killed (ie Thor going for the head), that leaves the door open for a return, especially since the dusted characters from IW returned? Also, I was slightest bit disappointed that Thanos was not physically killed. I appreciated the symmetry of him and his army getting dusted but, for me, it was much more satisfying watching him get beheaded by Thor than seeing him get dusted. I suppose it shows that he was really too strong (however, he was never really able to kill any of the Avengers, so maybe it goes both ways) 54:12 Jeremy WatsonFor Q1 to happen, we would probably need to see the infinity stones again, do you think that we will see them again in future MCU movies? If the stones are definitely gone, then do you see that causing a ripple down the road or possibly that is what leads to the evolution of the mutant X gene?56:36 Jeremy WatsonDo you think the MCU will eventually explore other realms more thoroughly (Soul Realm, Quantum Realm, where the dusted people went)?58:32 Jeremy WatsonHow do you think future MCU movies will call back to the Infinity War? I am sure that Far From Home will make some references, since that is next in line and the epilogue for Phase 3, but heading into Phase 4, do you see there being references to this story? 1:00:48 Mookie JohnsonI was asked how does time continue after Thanos destroyed the stones given The Ancient One's explanation? I'm curious about your thoughts on this this topic.1:04:46 Chris CascioHowdy everyone I just want to ask if you where Clint Barton how would you explain your new appearance to your wife and kids? Mid-Snap Crisis.1:05:47 Keith MerrillDoes Captain really age that fast? Depending on where he stopped it's probably 80 years?1:10:58 Hector Giovanni NavarreteHey Sean, hope everyone is having a great week! So with the MCU's timeline remaining with that 5 years later, the year post AE is 2023. Do you think that most of the next MCU films will just be “prequels” or some other time in the MCU's history type films? For example the rumor for The Eternals and BW are that they take place in the past at least partly. And maybe doing this as to wait for the MCU's timeline to line up with our real life time line in 2023? Thanks Sean!1:14:16 David RosenIf the Agent Carter tv series were to ever be revived, would you prefer it pick up where season 2 left off, or would you be more in favor now of seeing a season 3 in Cap's alternate timeline where he's now living with and married to Peggy? In your own head canon, what do you think their relationship was like? Did Peggy give up on her SSR/SHIELD life and they lived a quiet life together, or did she continue with her career, and occasionally maybe employ Steve for secret missions on the side? Now that I think about it, maybe Steve helped Peggy root out the Hydra contingent within SHIELD so it never became the problem that it did in Winter Soldier. On a larger note, do you think all the alternate timelines created in End Game can or will used as the basis for the upcoming “What If” series?1:17:34 AlexJoe Russo confirmed that there was no time loops involved in bringing old Steve back into the prime timeline; he just resided in an alternate timeline with his wife (who's never identified) then made the jump back to his original timeline to give Sam the shield so he can pass down the torch. So how do you think old Steve found a way back to his current timeline? Did he get help from the Tony Stark from the alternate timeline he lived in?1:19:52 Michael WeaselboyHey Sean i have a simple one this week. Also you are going to drop this episode on my birthday, May 1. So my question is, do you think DC/Warner Bros can make a movie as good and epic as Endgame?? I would like to see them do another Justice League movie down the road but they of course would have to get to that point again. Thoughts?? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
What if Betty Ross became the Hulk? Carlos wants to know. However there's one piece of news he won't talk about, fearing he'll start to cry, but English Dave is more interested in a Zack Snyder movie. This week we welcome you to drink the cool aid with us as Disney says "hold my beer"
In their two-movie episode discussing The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2, listen as Caitlin and Gabry gush over Betty Ross (and talk about how the MCU needs her back), read their friends' opinions on Natasha Romanoff and how good (or bad) The Incredible Hulk is, and notice a particularly hilarious cameo.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/avengegirls/posts)

SHOW NOTES: Introduction Background Created by Stan Lee (RIP) and Jack Kirby in The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962) Robert Bruce Banner saves young Rick Jones from detonation of a gamma bomb, but in the process gets hit with radiation – when angered or stressed, turns into a large green (originally gray) hulking creature Goes on to help found the Avengers, but leaves team shortly thereafter because of inability to cooperate with other heroes Military discovers Hulk’s true identity and begins a hunt for him, led by General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross and Major Glenn Talbot Banner is in love with Betty Ross, the General’s daughter, but she also has feelings for Talbot Banner’s control over the Hulk, and the Hulk’s intelligence, waxed & waned throughout the decades At one point in the mid-1980s, Banner and the Hulk were two separate entities, but were eventually rejoined in 1986 Later “Joe Fixit”, a Vegas enforcer and handyman was introduced, as another persona In the 1990s, the different versions of the Hulk and Banner merge into the “Professor” persona – contains Banner’s intelligence, Grey Hulk’s cunning, and Savage Hulk’s power 2006 – Planet Hulk/World War Hulk – the Illuminati decide Hulk is too dangerous and send him away – intended to go to desolate planet, but crashes on Sakaar – he becomes champion of the planet, and gets married to Caiera, who gives him 2 sons – she dies, and Hulk returns to Earth to take revenge on Illuminati Bruce is shot in the head, and Iron Man used Extremis technology to heal him – this had the side effect of creating Doc Green, a super-intelligent Hulk Original Sin – we discover that Tony Stark altered the gamma bomb that created the Hulk, but it’s later revealed that his tampering ensured the bomb wouldn’t disintegrate everyone within the blast radius, so Tony saved Bruce’s life Axis – Inverted morality Bruce becomes Kluh, who handily defeats rest of the Avengers until Brother Voodoo is resurrected and Wanda’s inversion is undone All-New Hulk – Amadeus Cho becomes the new Hulk, after using nanites to absorb the Hulk and leave Banner alone Civil War II – Banner is killed by Hawkeye, who revealed that Banner ordered Hawkeye to kill him if he ever tried to turn back into the Hulk Banner was mystically resurrected a few times since then for use in battle, but always returned to death Recently revealed that Banner is alive, and the Hulk has returned Issues (24:36) A metaphor for impulse control disorders, especially intermittent explosive Radiation doesn’t turn you into the Hulk – what does it do? Paranoia over constantly being hunted/tracked Dissociation of different identities/personas Reluctant hero – like many others, doesn’t want this power/responsibility Treatment (59:59) In-universe Out of universe (78:12) Skit (97:02) REFERENCES: Randy Orton - Anthony - 32:15 Up - Cone of shame - 71:44 iTunes: here Google Play: here Stitcher: here TuneIn: here iHeartRadio: here Spotify: here Twitter FacebookE-mailPatreon
