Most of us don't like confrontation. It's awkward, uncomfortable, and there's no guarantee it will go well. But when a fellow Christian is caught in sin, looking the other way isn't love—it's avoidance. In this message, you'll see how Jesus calls you to speak the truth in love, not to tear people down but to help them turn back to him. Because honest Christians don't just confess their own sins—they love others enough to speak up.
Romans 5:10-11 — Is the Christian finding glory in God? Is He their delight? In this sermon on Romans 5:10–11, Paul has already confirmed that salvation is assured in Christ Jesus and so this means the Christian should have joy in Christ Jesus and what He has done. Christians should glory both in their salvation and in God as the giver of salvation. Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones goes as far as to say that true Christian faith always leads to glorying in God. He states that things such as trusting in oneself rather than God, failure to mediate on the things of God, and not reasoning with Scripture could all be causes for a failure to properly glory in God. Not glorying in God is a sign of unbelief and a sin and unbelief is the chief of all sins. A Christian should be in constant examination of themselves to ensure that they are always glorying in Christ. All self-examination should lead to rejoicing. Growing in our knowledge of God isn’t just a spiritual discipline—it’s an act of worship. Using Proverbs 18:15 and a relatable moment with her child, she explores why Christians sometimes fear new perspectives and how God invites our honest questions. Through personal testimony, practical tips, and encouragement, Deidre shows that seeking deeper understanding of God can actually strengthen—not threaten—our faith. ✨ Highlights Why our deep-seated beliefs about God can make us resistant to new insights How asking hard questions can be an act of worship The reassurance of Hebrews 4:15–16 when we bring our uncertainties to God Practical ways to expand your understanding of God through scripture, discussion, and study Resources like The Bible Project and free seminary courses to grow in biblical knowledge
This episode explores what it truly means to “walk in a manner worthy of the calling” as a son of God. A son's walk is not hurried, desperate, or performance-driven—it flows from settled identity and abiding oneness with the Father. We'll contrast the exhausting, insecure walk of orphans and the prideful independence of those who resist discipline with the peaceful, Spirit-led walk of a true son. Discover how slowing your steps, receiving the Father's love, and living from His life within you will free you from striving and empower you to carry the fragrance of Christ wherever you go. It's one of the most controversial theological questions—did God choose us or did we choose Him? The debate of predestination versus free will has plagued the Church for centuries, even dividing Christians into different denominations. So, which side is right? Is there even a right side? Join us as we tackle this hot topic and learn why it really matters.

As Christians, we need to understand that if we believe and follow the Jesus of the Bible that we are on the same team. We may disagree about things like End Times or if we should speak in tongues. We may disagree about when we should take communion or if we should sing hymns or modern worship songs. But those are non-essentials.
As Christians, we need to understand that if we believe and follow the Jesus of the Bible that we are on the same team. We may disagree about things like End Times or if we should speak in tongues. “Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:9–10 NLT) When I was a kid, I collected snakes. I thought they were great, and I had them in all sizes. Years later, I met a man who shared my interest. Only, he collected venomous snakes. He had learned to handle them while working in a zoo. I really admired him. He had been bitten by a tiger snake, which is the most venomous snake on earth. It’s even more deadly than a cobra. This man survived the snakebite because he had been taking serum and had developed an immunity to the tiger snake’s venom. As a result, this man came to believe that he was virtually indestructible, that no snake could ever take him down. He let cobras that had not been defanged slither around loose in his house. One day, while he was at home, he was bitten by a cobra but didn’t realize it until later when his leg began to swell. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died. This man believed that because he had survived the tiger snake’s bite, he didn’t need to worry about cobras. That became his downfall. Likewise, in our spiritual lives, it’s often the little things that bring us down. Some Christians will endure a serious challenge or resist a major temptation and then start to think, “I can handle anything that comes my way. I’m strong. I won’t fall.” But that’s when we need to be careful. Are you feeling secure in yourself? Do you think your spiritual life is at its peak strength? Do you believe your doctrine is sound and your morals are pure? If so, you need to be on guard. You need to make sure that you’re dependent on the Lord. The apostle Paul struggled with a chronic or permanent physical, emotional, or spiritual condition that affected him greatly. He called it “a thorn in my flesh” (2 Corinthians 12:7 NLT). Three times he asked God to remove the thorn, to heal him from it. His reasoning was that he would be a stronger and more effective worker for Christ without the affliction. God disagreed. Three times He told Paul no. “Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness’” (verse 9 NLT). When we start to believe that our strength is sufficient, we set ourselves up for a fall. Our strongest virtues become our greatest vulnerabilities. And that’s when the devil gets ready to pounce. But when we humbly acknowledge our weakness, we open ourselves to God’s strength. And we get a front-row seat to His amazing work. Reflection question: What would acknowledging your weakness look like in your life? Send us a textWhile Hannah doesn't typically like to react to things she sees on social media, a particular post regarding Kim Davis' potential upcoming Supreme Court hearing brought up some interesting points Hannah felt compelled to walk through with her listeners. For those who don't remember, Kim Davis is the Rowan county clerk in Kentucky who refused to sign marriage licenses following the Obergefell v Hodges decision. The particular post making rounds argued that the Constitution applies differently to government employees and it was unConstitutional for Davis to refuse to sign marriage licenses. Furthermore, it claimed that she should have stepped down if she couldn't sign them and that she, along with Christians who supported her, was a hypocrite for discriminating against same-sex couples but not sinners of other varieties. Lastly, the author of the post argued that Jesus would have behaved much differently than Davis and the Christians who support her. In today's podcast, Hannah addresses whether each of these claims is true and whether Christians should adhere to these admonishments. In the Homeschool Hints segment, Hannah continues her series of sharing the curriculum she chose for her homeschool this year. This week she discusses grammar and spelling, which curriculum she chose and why she chose it; plus, cost and other sundry aspects. "May I beg you to read Mark's work again… let the strong lines of this narrative build up for you, as they did for me, a vigorous portrait of the One who is matchless Man. When you see for yourself the stature and quality of that Man, it will not seem to you nearly so difficult to accept what Christians have always accepted - that the Son of Man was also the Son of God". - J.B. Phillips, Plain Christianity (p.78) “I find no trace at all in Mark's Gospel of ‘gentle Jesus meek and mild'! I find instead a most powerful Figure who moves with confidence, cheerfulness and courage. He is a Man plainly in touch with the unseen world and plainly conscious that, though fully human, He speaks with the authority of God Himself…" (p.71) "The Man who moves with such confidence in the pages of Mark's story is plainly One to whom the resources of God are always available." (p.74)

In this episode of YouTube Catechesis, we take on a common but dangerous assumption: that baptism is merely symbolic. But where does the Bible actually say that? We explore 1 Peter 3:21 alongside Acts, Romans, and the Gospels, showing that baptism is not an optional outward gesture, it is the God-ordained sacrament that truly saves. Drawing from Scripture, apostolic tradition, and the consistent witness of the early Church, we uncover why Christians for 1,500 years never debated baptism's saving power. We examine how Protestant interpretations began shifting only in the 16th century, why the symbolic-only view is inconsistent even within Protestantism, and how the Catholic understanding is shared by other historic Christian traditions. We also address common objections and reveal why exceptions don't overturn God's ordinary means of grace. This episode will equip you with biblical clarity, historical evidence, and practical reasoning for defending the truth of baptismal regeneration. Romans 5:9-10 — Paul states that the greatest proof of the love of God is His plan of salvation. The one assurance beyond that is the direct witness of the Holy Spirit Himself. The Holy Spirit bears witness that Christians are indeed children of God. Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones notes in this sermon on Romans 5:9-10 that after Paul discusses being justified by God, he uses the phrase “how much more then.” Christ has already died, which meant that His people no longer have to face God's wrath. Also much more, Christ gave the gift of the Holy Spirit as well. Dr. Lloyd- Jones then discusses justification and how the cross procures this justification on the Christian's behalf. It is not human works, faith, or self- sanctification that justifies; it is purely the work of Christ on the cross. This act guarantees final salvation, when Christ comes to receive His church and His people are with Him in glory for eternity.

“In the west, people will respect the name of the Lord; in the east, they will glorify him. For he will come like a raging flood tide driven by the breath of the Lord.” (Isaiah 59:19 NLT) I remember reading a story about a battle between General Robert E. Lee and General Ulysses S. Grant during the Civil War. General Lee was, of course, the head of the Confederate forces. He was known for his brilliant military tactics and his ability to do a lot with a little. He did not have the organization or the manpower of the Union army, but he was able to move and position his troops effectively and foil his enemies on a number of occasions. His exploits had become so legendary that the Union soldiers were terrified of him. One night, some Union soldiers were standing around the campfire talking about General Lee. They said, “What if General Lee does this? What are we going to do?” General Grant was standing a few feet away. He walked over to the soldiers and said, “Oh, I am heartily tired of hearing about what Lee is going to do. Some of you always seem to think he is suddenly going to turn a double somersault, and land in our rear and on both of our flanks at the same time. Go back to your command, and try to think what we are going to do ourselves, instead of what Lee is going to do.” Sometimes I see the same thing happening in the church: “Oh, the devil is doing this. The devil is doing that. Did you hear about this wicked thing that happened?” The media is partially to blame. Often in books, movies, and TV shows, the devil is portrayed as an all-powerful being who inspires terror in everyone who crosses his path. Call it dramatic license. Or, better yet, call it fiction. The apostle Peter warns us to “Stay alert” (1 Peter 5:8 NLT) to the devil’s scheming, not because he’s all-powerful or terrifying, but because he’s wily. He prefers to work in secret so that we’re not even aware of what he’s doing. If it’s an all-powerful being who inspires fear in His enemies that you’re looking for, you need to glance behind you (spiritually speaking) to the One who has your back. Look at the majesty in the words of Isaiah 59:19: “In the west, people will respect the name of the Lord; in the east, they will glorify him. For he will come like a raging flood tide driven by the breath of the Lord” (NLT). This is an image of God’s intervening on behalf of His people. A raging flood tide overwhelms everything in its path. Likewise, God’s power is unstoppable. That’s why I think we should stop worrying so much about what the devil will do and instead let him worry about what we Christians will do. In Deuteronomy 31:6, Moses reassured the Israelites with these words: “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you” (NLT). That’s a promise all God’s people can claim. Let the devil tremble. If you would like to help support my mission to multiply disciples, leaders and churches, click here: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/robskinner The Power of Right Now Introduction · Have you ever listened to someone's story and then said, “I'll pray for you.” After saying that you quickly forgot about it and never prayed for the person. · Have you ever had a person pop up in your head and you thought, I wonder how they are doing? I bet that person could use a call. After that thought you quickly moved on and never followed up. · Have you ever felt the impulse to reach out and share with someone and then backed off because you were: Ø Too busy Ø Too tired Ø Afraid of their reaction Instead of acting on that impulse, you let the Spirit's prompting pass away. If you can remember at least one time that happened to you, you understand the importance of living out your faith, “Right Now.” That's why I want to talk to you tonight about the power of “right now.” There are three things that we can start doing that will take our faith from theory to practice every single day. All we need to do is: 1. Encourage right now 2. Connect right now 3. Pray right now 1. Encourage Right Now Paul talks about the power of right now in Ephesians 5:15-20. “15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul tells us to be very careful how we live. Why, because the days are evil. That's why we need to realize the power of right now and make the most of every opportunity. Ø Right now people are struggling with temptation Ø Right now disciples are targeted by Satan Ø Right now friends you know are dealing with health issues Ø Right now Christians are considering leaving God and his church Ø Right now people you thought were solid are feeling shaky How can you help? § Encourage people right now § Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit § Share scriptures that encourage you § Praise people § Thank people § Lift people up § Share positively about people who aren't here right now o I really appreciate Stuart. His work in Boston has inspired me and is one of the reasons Pam and I wanted to move here. He is an extremely encouraging person. Often times we know these things and we have positive thoughts about others, but we don't take advantage of the power of now to encourage others. Let's make the most of this opportunity by turning to the person next to you and encourage them with: § Positive words § Gratitude § A scripture § Praise 2. Connect Right Now Let's read Colossians 4:5, “Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.” Paul says we need to be wise in how we deal with those aren't following Jesus. We need to make the most of every opportunity. God gives us opportunities every day to help those around us. If we want to see God work in our life, we need to connect every day. On my first Sunday, I was sitting in front of a couple that I could tell were visiting. I introduced myself and they shared they were here for the first time. A few minutes later I saw someone else talking to them and being kind to them. That brother understood the power of right now. At the end of the service, I looked back and they were gone, but I know that brother had exchanged information with them. He had made the most of every opportunity. God gives us opportunities to love and serve those around us every day. We just need to be aware and ready to make the most of every opportunity. Ø When we are at work Ø When we are in an elevator Ø When we are checking out of the store When I arrived, the first thing I did was ask Stuart for some invitation cards to connect when God gave me an opportunity. It's been so much fun to connect and see the power of now: Ø My movers Ø Dunkin Donuts Ø Roche Brothers I think one of the easiest ways aside from reaching out at church on Sunday is simply texting your friends and letting them know what you are doing. It's soft, it's gentle, it's loving and if they're aren't interested they can ignore you. However, a simple text can change a person's life. Let's take advantage of the power of now. Pull out your phone and text a friend or coworker. Just text them something loving like: “Just thinking about you. Hope you are doing well.” If you want to go an extra step, you can add, “I'd love for you to join me this Sunday at church” 3. Pray Right Now How else can we make the most of right now? We can pray for each other in the moment. I can't tell you how many times I've said “I'll pray for you” and then forgot to do it. But then I found a way to avoid that. When someone shares something serious, heavy, or worthy of prayer, I use that as a trigger to pray right then and there. Prayer makes a difference, but if you never follow through, you missed the power of right now. Look at how James describes how powerful prayer really is: “13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. 17 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. 18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. 19 My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, 20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.” James writes that if we or someone we know is going through something, anything-our first response should be to pray. Why? Prayer is powerful and effective. Prayer moves God. God can do anything. He then launches into a story about Elijah, who he says was a normal person just like us. His prayers changed weather patterns. Would you like to save someone from death, bring wanderers back, return people to the truth and cover over a multitude of sins? It all starts with praying. Praying right now. Let's pray right now by asking the person next to us, “What can I pray for you about?” After listening, hold hands and pray for that person. After that let the other person ask, “What can I pray for you about.” After the person shares a need, put your hands on his or her shoulder or hold hands and say a prayer for them. Pray right now. Conclusion Can you imagine how your life would fill up with joy and power if you started making the most of every opportunity? What if on a daily basis you began to: 1. Encourage right now 2. Connect right now 3. Pray right now I believe you would begin to draw closer to God and people and you would be begin to see miracles happen. That's the power of “Right Now.” Ice Cream Social
Over the next weeks, we In this episode, Melissa and Bishop Wright have a conversation about what it truly means to believe. Far more than intellectual agreement, belief positions us in relationship to a God who exists whether we acknowledge it or not. When we stand and recite ancient creeds, we join a timeless community of faith—standing "spiritually shoulder to shoulder with generations who have gone before and generations yet to come." This connection reminds us that faith is both deeply personal and inherently communal. Listen in for the full conversation. Slightly contra Fukuyama on liberal communities Francis Fukuyama is on Substack; last month he wrote Liberalism Needs Community. As always, read the whole thing and don't trust my summary, but the key point is: R. R. Reno, editor of the magazine First Things, the liberal project of the past three generations has sought to weaken the “strong Gods” of populism, nationalism, and religion that were held to be the drivers of the bloody conflicts of the early 20th century. Those gods are now returning, and are present in the politics of both the progressive left and far right—particularly the right, which is characterized today by demands for strong national identities or religious foundations for national communities. However, there is a cogent liberal response to the charge that liberalism undermines community. The problem is that, just as in the 1930s, that response has not been adequately articulated by the defenders of liberalism. Liberalism is not intrinsically opposed to community; indeed, there is a version of liberalism that encourages the flourishing of strong community and human virtue. That community emerges through the development of a strong and well-organized civil society, where individuals freely choose to bond with other like-minded individuals to seek common ends. People are free to follow “strong Gods”; the only caveat is that there is no single strong god that binds the entire society together. In other words - yes, part of the good life is participation in a tight-knit community with strong values. Liberalism's shared values are comparatively weak, and its knitting comparatively loose. But that's no argument against the liberal project. Its goal isn't to become this kind of community itself, but to be the platform where communities like this can grow up. So in a liberal democracy, Christians can have their church, Jews their synagogue, Communists their commune, and so on. Everyone gets the tight-knit community they want - which beats illiberalism, where (at most) one group gets the community they want and everyone else gets persecuted. On a theoretical level, this is a great answer. On a practical level - is it really working? Are we really a nation dotted with tight-knit communities of strong values? The average person has a church they don't attend and a political philosophy that mainly cashes out in Twitter dunks. Otherwise they just consume whatever slop the current year's version of capitalism chooses to throw at them. It's worth surveying the exceptions that prove the rule: https://www.astralcodexten.com/p/should-strong-gods-bet-on-gdp

After years of faithful Christian ministry, some of David's old demons returned, and he stumbled and fell. David's fall led him into a season of "falling away," and many saw him and still see him as a disgraced Christian. Should a man like this be in ministry again? How far does the grace of God go? Does God permanently disqualify sinners from ministry? In this episode of the Mutuality Matters podcast from CBE International, hosts Mimi and Charel speak with Dr. Jeannine Brown who discusses the pressing need to interpret the Biblical text of 1 Peter 3:1–7 within its first-century Greco-Roman context. Dr. Brown emphasizes the importance of understanding the cultural and historical background behind the passages on submission, particularly 1 Peter 3:1–7. She explores how Peter's household codes provide agency to often marginalized groups like wives and slaves, contrary to the hierarchical norms of the time. The conversation underscores the relevance today of recognizing and respecting context while interpreting Biblical texts—an essential factor for both scholars and modern readers. 00:00 Introduction to Mutuality Matters 00:02 Exploring the Context of Submission in 1 Peter 00:49 Welcome and Introductions 01:33 Reading and Analyzing 1 Peter 3:1-7 02:57 Cultural Background and Interpretation 03:37 Household Codes in the Greco-Roman World 07:24 Missional Moments and Divided Households 08:20 Challenges for Christian Wives in the First Century 10:03 Slavery and Moral Agency in 1 Peter 11:28 Understanding Peter's Use of Household Codes 16:50 Modern Interpretations and Misconceptions 27:46 The Role of Headings in Biblical Interpretation 30:15 Instructions for Husbands in 1 Peter 3:7 36:30 Exploring Social and Physical Vulnerability 37:19 Interpreting 'Weaker Vessel' in Context 38:02 Challenging Traditional Views on Gender Roles 40:18 Co-Heirs and Inheritance in Early Christianity 41:50 Family Metaphors in 1 Peter 43:37 Egalitarian Impulses in the New Testament 45:28 Household Codes and Their Implications 50:08 Suffering for Good and Loyalty to Jesus 52:47 Translation Challenges and Responsibilities 58:01 Applying 1 Peter in Modern Contexts 01:04:03 Conclusion and Further Resources Guest Bio: Dr. Jeannine Brown Jeannine Brown is professor of New Testament at Bethel Seminary and Program Director of Bethel Seminary's Online programs. She is married to Tim Brown, singer-songwriter, and has two adult daughters. Story Notes Today's podcast focused on 1 Pet 3:1–7. In the NIV it reads: "Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves. They submitted themselves to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her lord. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear. Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers." Exploring the cultural background, Jeannine suggests that Peter is calling Christians to display behaviors that reflect Christ even as male dominance was a given. Jeannine explained that in the first century, Roman interest in well-organized households should mirror a well-organized Rome. Roman citizens were to live harmoniously within a well-organized Roman household. Where the passage makes a surprising move is in the call for husbands to have empathy for their wives with a consequence: that God will hear their prayers. Further Christian wives should view themselves beyond the cultural standard of female beauty. As the passage states: it's not the adorning of women's outer selves but their inner lives of faith in God. Doing right, and with faith that does not give into fear given God is ultimately in control. This passage is countercultural in its emphasis on Christian faith and the development of a peaceful inner life both of which acknowledge God's supremacy versus that of emperor's. This passage calls both husbands and wives to do what is right: to be brave, to have faith in God who rules over all of Rome's emperors, verse 7, to live within a culture with very differing values that offend Christian moral life. In this passage there is a tension in negotiating life lived in a culture at odds with Christian values, supremely concerning the divinity Jesus, or that of an emperor. While Jesus died on a Roman cross, even so, the passage evokes faith and courage in Christian households. The passage is helpful to missionaries in similar circumstances. How to live with courage and faith, elevating the gospel with behavior more often than words in a culture that exploited slaves and women. Turning to 1 Peter 3:7 that reads: "Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers." The Petrine texts lean into sibling language, especially that of children, which overall is very egalitarian in the cultural context of first century. Further, the language of “father” was not very much present in NT as it was in 1st century non-Christian texts. God's children in Christ were to face each other in humility and this very egalitarian impulse in relating to one another. God is father, but in Christ we're all siblings. Women and men are co-heirs is throughout NT. Leadership structure are notes but not ones in the NT. The whole Petrine text is a significant challenge to the top-down rule from emperor as God down throughout the household structure which was central. Given what Peter is doing with family metaphors—of believers as children / siblings who are to love earnestly as family love each other, and as the elders are a group too much have wisdom but must lead by example. These impulses, leader on top, and wife below: this does simplify decisions, but this is not the texture of Peter. As he thinks of his context, and the household code, it is not a prescription but a triage—a pathway for healing top-down leadership. It's what Christians do in an emergency. Emergency advice to the Christian community so it can survive. It's about survival for the most vulnerable. The thrust of text is a call to attentiveness to the most vulnerable. In light of Tom Holland's book—Dominion: How the Christian Revolution Remade the World—in brutal detail reveals the cruelty of Rome. In thinking of our next, the advice is that even if you suffer for doing good, you are blessed. And take comfort in that truth and knowledge that even those who slanders you, remain loyal to Christ, if you suffer as Jesus did, you will also share in his glory. In fascinating detail, Jeannine describes the history of Bible translation and the canonical review that follows. For the NIV team, on which she contributes, their voting policy requires a 75% majority in approving translation choices. Thus, the team must make a compelling case to change something, so for 1 Peter, and the NT generally, it's always wise to examine and read many translations to see differences. In considering the backdrop in which the text arises, submission is not a new requirement. What is new for this culture is to ask that all behavior must be Christ-like. While believers are clearly frightened by opposition to Christian faith, the text calls them to act in ways that others will recognize their soul-allegiance to Christ. Win others over to Christ not out of fear but confident behavior that imitates Christ's live. Jeannine recommends entering the text with a disciplined imagination that brings implications of texts to life then and now. Idolatry is key issue underlining the concerns in this text which encourages faith and living life not with words but by example. Jeannine points listeners to the following resources: Nijay Gupta's book, Tell Her Story: How Women Led, Taught and Ministered in the Early Church. Chapter 18 reveals that joy is not optional—it is imperative for those running to win. True joy flows from union with Christ, not from favorable circumstances, soulish exuberance, or personal success. Jesus Himself endured the cross “for the joy set before Him,” keeping His eyes on the goal rather than the pathway. From past joy in the assurance of sins forgiven, to present joy in abiding fellowship, to future joy in anticipating God's eternal purposes, joy is the mark of a mature runner in the race. The lesson is clear: joy is not something we chase—it takes hold of us when our lives are under one single control, aligned with God's ultimate intention. When our perspective shifts from what happens to us to what God does through us, joy becomes a constant companion, sustaining us in every season and empowering us to finish well. Here we go! Christians should give thanks for a “Christian” outcome in a judicial dispute over a particular parental right, but I believe that is not enough. I believe the end or telos of a Christian view of law would strive to restore in law parental rights as an authority delegated by God with a prescribed jurisdiction give for certain ends—”godly offspring” (Malachi 2:15). Today I explain the legislative proposal I offered Tennessee’s legislature that would moved law in that direction.Support the show: https://www.factennessee.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

He is a Man plainly in touch with the unseen world and plainly conscious that, though fully human, He speaks with the authority of God Himself…" (p.71) "The Man who moves with such confidence in the pages of Mark's story is plainly One to whom the resources of God are always available." But today, we celebrate something bigger than an arm. We celebrate a backbone. When the world told him to fit in, to fly the rainbow flag, to bow to comfort, Kershaw said, “No.” He didn't shout. He didn't rage. He wrote a Bible verse on his Pride-themed hat. Quiet defiance. Holy courage. The world mocked him. The critics lined up. The backlash was fierce. But he reminded a nation: JESUS IS STILL LORD. His is the only approval that matters.Brothers and sisters, what will you do when your moment of truth arrives? Will you wilt? Or will you stand?Buckle up. This one's raw, real, and rooted in truth.Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10) Key Takeaways:10:50 - Isn't this rich? Isn't this all incredibly ironic? They want to bring sexual ideology into the stadium, but the moment someone brings in scripture, they call it offensive. They say, you're out of line. Now, let me be blunt here. So there's no ambiguity, so we're all on the same page. What they're really saying is that anything goes except Christianity. But guess what? There was also a groundswell of support. Christians across the country applauded him... But unlike certain publicity hounds in society today, Clayton wasn't looking for applause. He wasn't trying to be a culture warrior. He was just trying to be faithful. That's the mark of a true disciple. 22:39 - If you're more afraid of a hashtag than of hell, your priorities are way messed up. So many Christians are more afraid of what two people they've never met are going to say than spending eternity in hell. That stops now. And that starts with us.24:30 - Silence in the face of sin is complicity. Refusing to speak truth is refusing to love... You can't preach about grace and avoid judgment. You can't be a follower of Christ and refuse to carry His cross.Connect with Paul NeubergerWebsite
In this thought-provoking episode of Thinking Out Loud, Nathan and Cameron engage in a deep theological and philosophical conversation exploring one of the most pressing questions of our time: What is the good life? As Christians navigating a culture marked by meaninglessness, hyper-individualism, and spiritual confusion, they examine how ancient wisdom—from Solomon to Marcus Aurelius—intersects with modern challenges like social isolation, gym culture, and the back-to-the-land movement. With references to Stoicism, Pierre Hadot, Paul's letter to the Philippians, and the failures of secular philosophy to offer purpose, this episode invites believers into a rich, gospel-centered reflection on virtue, identity, and true human flourishing. Christians are not immune to horrible circumstances; bad things happen to all people. Where is God when we are hurting? Christians often assign the image of a ferocious lion to Satan while envisioning themselves as defenseless, vulnerable lambs. However, the image of a lion is used far more often to describe the Messiah and His covenant people than the prince of darkness. Once we truly hear the roar of the Lion of Judah, we will be awakened to our own lion calling, manifesting this symbol of bravery, fearlessness, dominion, and victory.Ministry website: www.shreveministries.org Comparative religion website: www.thetruelight.net The “Catholic Project” website: www.toCatholicswithlove.org Video channel: www.YouTube.com/mikeshreveministries All audio-podcasts are shared in a video format on our YouTube channel. Based on his book, Renaissance, Os Guinness calls the current generation the “crunch generation” because the many challenges facing today’s world are converging quickly and need resolution. He asks Christians to pay “focused attention” to listening to non-believers around them in order to connect. Os advises believers to think deeply for themselves when it comes to loving God with their minds. When witnessing, they must ask questions to those questioning Christianity, rather than making statements, allowing the non-believer to think and come to their own discovery of salvation in Jesus.
