It's been said that when it comes to fashion and style, what goes around comes around. And, in one of the most mind-boggling recent fashion trends, today's teens are proving this to be true. In a recent article in of all places Country Living Magazine, writer Katie Bowley throws this headline at us: “Cracker Barrel's Grandma Sweatshirts Are The Newest Gen Z Trend.” Yes, you heard that right. Teenagers are heading to the Cracker Barrel gift shops and buying those sweatshirts embroidered with nature scenes and animals which arepopular with older. Thanks to promotion of the trend through TikTok videos hawking the sweatshirts as stylish for the younger set, Cracker Barrell has seen a seven-hundred percent increase in sales of the sweatshirts since the early fall. This sounds very similar to what happened a couple of years ago when the old school Stanley water bottles suddenly became stylish. This is a refreshing trend, as the sweatshirts are costing our kids the relatively low price of thirty dollars.

National Headlines this week had all eyes on the hunter, Carson Wentz, the NFL Quarterback. We discuss the support from the Outdoors World. And Are you packed, loaded, and heading out for the Fourth of July? We are! Pro Fishing Tips are given plus a HOT rocking cooking trend that you will definitely want to give a try. This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC; and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Show, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle!  Be sure to subscribe on your favorite podcasting app or on The Bend Show YouTube channel. EPISODE 139 DETAILS Deer lottery and Elk or other big game lottery results are being announced. How have you faired in your state? Many states cut back on their license numbers for the big game tags due to the long winter this last year. Tigger & BEC were both surprisingly successful. Both Tigger & BEC were drawn for "any antlered buck tags" in their state. Having resident rifle buck tags means that they now are able to harvest either a mule deer buck or a whitetail buck. Were you successful? Have you noticed a drop in tags available for big game in your state? Big Game is considered such as deer, elk, moose, bear, and big horn sheep just to name a few. SPOTLIGHT   Age is ONLY a number. Today we spotlight one woman that's not spending her days bored sitting around the retirement home. 84-year-old Kim Knor of Grand Haven, Michigan spends her days skydiving instead. You heard right, Sky Diving. Kim Emmons Knor knew she wanted to skydive after her uncle brought home a military parachute from World War II.  After forging her parents' signatures, Kim Emmons Knor made her first jump back in 1959. She then sold all her possessions and bought a Eurail Pass and an open-ended plane ticket so she could travel as a “Parachute Enthusiast”, visiting 21 countries. Kim Emmons Knor was one of only two women to compete against men in the 1961 Team Tryouts at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and in 1962 made history as a member of the first U.S Women's Parachute Team and they won Gold!  She has been inducted into the International Sky Diving Hall of Fame and Her long-time goal is to complete 1,000 skydives, currently, Kim Emmons Knor has 400 skydives to go to reach that goal! And last weekend, she completed 3 skydives! Can you imagine, 600 skydives completed? NOW that is pushing the limits and still doing so at 84 years of age! You're an inspiration Mrs. Kim Emmons Knor     NEWS Football Fans and Hunting Enthusiasts stood behind Carson Wentz, the NFL Quarterback when he made national headlines after returning from a Bucket List Alaskan Bear Hunt. The hunt was for an archery black bear and had been done so according to legal Alaska hunting laws.  What made this National News was when Carson Wentz shared the success of his hunt on social media the non-hunters grabbed at the opportunity to “Hate” on an Outdoorsman. The social media instagram post Carson Wentz shared was captioned, “Got the opportunity to spot and stalk black bear in one of our new favorite places on earth— Alaska! Incredible trip and an incredible animal!”  Carson Wentz has never been afraid to share his love for the outdoors and of course, social media along with National News outlets had a hay day trying to drag hunting, the outdoors and this NFL player's name thru the mud. In BEC's opinion, this was a well-played move by Wentz to relate to other like-minded people as Carson Wentz is like many proud Americans that love the outdoors, hunting, and football. Congratulations Carson Wentz on your successful Alaskan Black Bear hunting adventure!   Embed Instagram Post: https://www.instagram.com/p/Ct1qUxnL9-p/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==   Lab Grown Meat This next story, I'm touching on ONLY because it makes my blood boil. Not too often, you will hear me become opinionated; but this one I feel was very overlooked by major news outlets. Our attention was placed elsewhere is what I am saying, and owning that thought. Here we go. Last week the US Department of Agriculture gave the green light for two companies to sell chicken meat that is “Lab Grown”. The companies, Upside Food and Good Meat, in an effort to be the first companies to sell meat that does not come from slaughtered animals; has created chicken using animal cells grown in a lab. Known as “Cultivated Meat', it is grown in steel tanks and produced on large sheets that are then cut into shapes resembling chicken cutlets and sausages. Currently, this new meat source will not be sold in grocery stores as it's more expensive to produce than traditional meat. If you're like BEC; she is not impressed with the approval on this one whatsoever, and we will leave it at that.   Strange Foods You Might Find… Venturing north of the border, Canada that is. There's a new cotton candy flavor being tested out by the dipping sauce company French's. French's has launched ketchup-flavored Cotton Candy!!  Also while in Canada, McDonald's has launched a new McFlurry Flavor - the Caramel Popcorn McFlurry!! And here at our local McD's we only get the option of Oreo or M&M. Come on, let us Americans be the guinea pigs first for a change! Lastly, if you're road tripping thru or near Columbia, Missouri. Sparky's Homemade Ice Cream has gone viral on social media for serving up Moutain Dew and Doritos Ice Cream that is green in color! If you've had ANY of these newest flavors, let us know what your palette thought, a Thumbs Up or Down! How To Enjoy The Fourth Of July Outdoors   Fishing! Tips from The Bend Show Field Staffer, Pro Angler Johnnie Candle. This week professional fisherman and fishing guide, Johnnie Candle, shares what is working right now for walleye fishing. Depending on where you are fishing; some lakes, rivers, and ponds may be showing signs of thick weed growth. To avoid getting hooked in the weeds, Johnnie Candle shares two types of jigs that are doing the trick and reeling in the trophy fish.    Fishing is the perfect sport to do alone or with the family. Novice or experienced, the sport of fishing is one that is truly a Lifelong Sport. At any age, one can pick up a spinning rod or fly fishing rod, and toss a line. #tightlines Are always the goal, but the rewards of reeling in fish, and the excitement is one hard to beat.    This summer and fall when heading out to enjoy the outdoors over the Fourth of July or any other holiday; remember the insect repellent. Across the country, there has been an increase in ticks which can result in nasty diseases that often go undetected such as Lyme disease. Mosquitos are another biter that can ruin a day fast, and this pest too can spread such diseases as West Nile. Be smart, "pack prepared" and don't forget the bug spray. Our household uses those with higher amounts of deet such as "Off Deep Woods", but that is up to you on what fits your needs.    And always remember the SPF, aka the sunscreen. BEC & Tigger recently upped their game, and are now using 50 SPF sweat and waterproof sunscreens. Worried you won't get that summer glowing tan; they are both still tanning but without as much of the worry surrounding skin cancer. FIELD REPORT Johnnie Candle, Professional Angler & Guide https://johnniecandle.com/ https://www.facebook.com/JohnnieCandleProfessionalAngler/ ENTERTAINMENT Miranda Lambert - If you weren't a fan already, we have a feeling many of you will give a nod of approval to these latest claims about the famous country star. According to OK! Magazine, Miranda Lambert is allegedly considered to be the most Frugal Country Star in Nashville. Heck Yay! I like her more already! A source claims that eats at chain restaurants, takes freebies when she can, and goes on all-inclusive vacations, including having recently stayed in Mexico at a chain all-inclusive resort. What's wrong with that?!? BEC loves hearing when our famous folks are down-to-earth people just like us. A penny saved is a penny earned in our book! YELLOWSTONE TV Drama prequel, 1923 starring Harrison Ford & Helen Mirren, the resolutions to those plot lines and other cliffhangers do not appear to be coming anytime soon due to the Writers Guild of America strike according to Country Living Magazine. Season one of 1923 ended in dramatic fashion, with the Dutton family ranch under attack while Spencer and Alex torn apart on their way to help save it. At this point, NBC Montana has commented that the project has been "delayed indefinitely" due to the Writers Guild of America strike.   FOURTH OF JULY FOOD TRENDS   Stir-Fried Rocks & Stone have become one of CHINA's HOTTEST food dish trends and it's making its way across the pond to the United States. Hear this one out… People are finding rocks and pebbles, taking the stones home and cleaning well these treasures before placing them amongst their stir-fry dishes while still hot…. WELL BEC hates to bust this cooking trend!! Rock Cooking or Hot Stones Cooking has been used for 1,000s of years! It's one of the Survival Basics taught if one is lost out in nature. Adding hot stones to a large bowl with a little oil and your meats and vegetables. Stir the stones and ingredients until the meat is well done. Just a tip thou, if you fail to stir it enough, BEC promises you it will burn. It's called stir fry for a reason. Heat up 10 or more stones in the embers, wash them off first then toss into your concoction for a “rock stir fry”! Now thinking about this new “Trend”... Kinda glad it was brought up as this could be a really fun one to get the kids involved with! Give it a try and let us know how your crew enjoys the new challenge on your next camping trip! Marshmallows. With the Fourth of July holiday week now upon us... Don't forget the Marshmallows! We talked about this last week, and we thought would remind you to use the holiday as a reason to try some of the new flavors gracing the shelves… From the Stuffed Puffs brand, there is now Classic Milk Chocolate Marshmallows, Cookies'n Creme Marshmallows, and Salted Caramel filled or stuffed marshmallows with !! AND That's not all… For those wanting a Visual Effect at their campfire - There are Marshmallows out this camping season that change color while being toasted too!      FIELD REPORTS & COMMENTS Call or Text your questions, comments to 305-900-BEND or 305-900-2363 Or email BendRadioShow@gmail.com FOLLOW Facebook/Instagram: @thebendshow SUBSCRIBE to The Bend YouTube Channel.   Website: TheBendShow.com https://thebendshow.com/ #catchBECifyoucan #tiggerandbec #outdoors #travel #cowboys The Outdoors, Rural America, And Wildlife Conservation are Center-Stage. Lynn mudlarks along the River Irwell in Lancashire, England, where she scours its banks for beautiful pieces of broken pottery, little pieces of history tumbled by the river for over 100 years. Lynn tells us about the river's history and where many of the pieces she finds originated.Lynn is fascinated with how these tiny fragments made their way into the river and the journey they have been on. Cracked and faded, their edges are worn smooth from their watery passage, a mere remnant of what once was. Who last held them in their former, utilitarian life before she plucked them from the banks of the river.Years after she began collecting these lovely miniature pieces of history, she incorporated them into handcrafted one-of-a-kind mosaic works of art, which she entered and won a place in Country Living Magazine's 'Kitchen Table Talent' competition. Welcome one and all to another Teal Talk Tuesday in almost March. I have to take a moment and ask an important question. Am I the only one that finds it incredibly rude every single time I'm reminded that we're already almost in the third month of the year 2022? I can't be the only one. I feel assaulted every time. To be perfectly honest I was struggling like pre-COVID to accept that 2008 was not just a couple of years ago anymore. But with everything that happened in 2020 and 2021, like any hope that I had of knowing the date or not feeling just completely attacked by the date went out the window. So that's where I am. So I hope I'm not alone. Anyway, here we are on 2/22/22. It's a palindrome day. I'm your host for Teal Talk, Jenny Guy, and I am so happy that we are all here together, whatever the year or date may be. Today I am joined by two powerhouse content creators who have done something incredibly brave and maybe just like a little bit crazy. They have partnered up with five other extremely successful publishers and done an additional website. So Black People's Recipes debuted at the end of January in 2022, and we cannot think of a better way to continue with our Black History Month content than to hear the story of how it all came to be. So please join me in welcoming back to Teal Talk the wonderful Tanya Harris and for the first time Brandi Crawford. Hello, ladies. Welcome. BRANDI CRAWFORD: Hello. TANYA HARRIS: Hey. BRANDI CRAWFORD: Thank you so much. JENNY GUY: I'm going to read the very incredibly impressive bios for each of them. So Brandi Crawford is the recipe developer and food photographer behind Stay Snatched, where she shares quick and easy healthy recipes that do not compromise on taste. Very important. She's a CPA with a background in corporate finance and financial planning. So her love is real for numbers, data sets, and Excel spreadsheets. She is also the author of the Super Easy Air Fryer Cookbook and has been featured on Good Morning America, Women's Health Magazine, Shape Magazine, Parade Magazine, Essence Magazine, Country Living Magazine, Southern Living Magazine, BuzzFeed, Delish, the Kansas City Star, Kansas City Spaces, Greatest, and more. Tanya Harris Fleming is a mom, wife, attorney, recipe groupie, photographer, and traffic whisperer who took a love of pressure cooker and air fryer recipes and turned them into a full time income on her part-time blog, My Forking Life, which she began in 2016. EP139: Shelly Leer has been taking apart furniture and rebuilding it for over 20 years. Her familiar voice and easy-to-follow projects have worked their way through the hands of creators from novice to professional. A graduate of Butler University, Shelly holds a B.S. in Education with a concentration in Textiles and Design.  Today, HomeRoom is the studio home to her courses and workshops, and provides a creative space for an expansive student base who aren't afraid to roll up their sleeves and do satisfying work. And what she loves most now, at age 65, is helping midlife women learn skills and power tools to build a better 2nd half. In this episode, Shelly openly talks about her major life transformations, including the devastating obstacles, from death to betrayal to divorce - they run the gamut - that she's had to overcome to grow as a person, and how they've helped her become stronger and clearer with her intentions. She also talks about how, earlier in her life, she departed from her creative side, got trained as a paralegal and worked at one of Indianapolis' largest law firms before she returned to her true passion of furniture design and upholstery.. She's had projects featured in The Huffington Post and her upholstery classes have been featured in Indianapolis Monthly Magazine. She's been a DIY project contributor and writer for HOUZZ.com, as well as having projects featured in Country Living Magazine, BobVila.com and others. In the late 1990's, Shelly designed and created a line of children's furniture and accessories for one of the first online children's furniture websites, PoshTots.com.  Shelly has also co-authored three books for Curbly.com; Make It: Mid Century Modern, Make It: Secondhand Chic and Make It: Hardware Store Chic AND her first book, “The Little Upholstery Book-A Beginner's Guide to Artisan Upholstery” was published by Schiffer Publishing. Shelly's spent time working for British furniture designer and upholsterer Paul A. Howard where she learned the nitty gritty of the custom upholstery business. She went on to become a trailblazer in the rescue, repurpose and rehab movement as she upcycled and flipped furniture before the market understood the value of saving old furniture.  The idea to “teach what you know” led Shelly to teach sewing and design at a housing facility for women and children who had fled domestic abuse. She witnessed firsthand how the process of creative planning and expression can become a valuable tool in confidence building and healing. Students travel from all over North America and Canada to participate in Shelly's monthly Upholstery Bootcamps. Beyond practical upholstery skills, her classes and workshops have provided a hands-on respite and refreshment for seekers of creative renewal. Her online classes were developed to meet the growing interest and demand for the diminishing upholstery programs across the United States and the world. She's recently added workshops to teach women how to use power tools for DIY repairs, as well as to build their own small furnishings.   Click on any of the links below to learn more about Shelly, her programs and connect with her: Website: https://thehomeroomshop.com/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/upholstery_club  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/home_room_shop Facebook Group: HomeRoom School of Upholstery and Handcrafts   If you'd like to connect or reach out to ME, you can find me at:   Website: https://www.notyouraveragegrandma.com  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LaurieColvinWright  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/not_your_average_grandma  Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/NotYourAverageGrandma    Note: Not Your Average Grandma is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.

In today's episode, we draw inspiration from an article that caught my eye all about shelf organization in the July 2021 issue of Country Living Magazine. And we speak with professional librarian Andrew Brink to get his tips on how to curate and organize a home library that is more than just a pretty face. And inspired by the Good Humor ice cream bar taste test in the summer issue of Delish magazine, you'll not only learn about the top winners, because I couldn't leave you hanging with just the mention, but I'm joined by my niece, Minna, to share our tips for putting on a taste test of your own, which happens to be one of our favorite activities to do together when we see each other. Pulling from the same summer issue of Delish magazine, we are testing the classic lemonade recipe in today's test kitchen - and in the competitive food spirit, we had to put it up against the classic Iowa State Fair lemonade recipe to see how it holds up against the most classic of all lemonades. This is the Page Living Podcast, and YOU are welcome here!

Buying an old home that needs work can be intimidating, especially for those of us whose only knowledge of fixer uppers comes from Chip and Joanna! But there’s a special set of home buyers that can see all the beauty and potential in older houses. What some view as eyesores, they see as charm—four walls full of history that can't be duplicated. Today’s instructor, Elizabeth Finkelstein is one of those people. Born in an 1850s Greek Revival home that was lovingly restored by her parents, Elizabeth’s love for crown molding and decorative ironwork runs in her gene pool.  After high school, she left the quiet of the countryside to entrench herself in New York’s great history and architecture. While there, she earned a Masters in Historic Preservation and spent years working in the field of professional preservation advocacy. Maturepreneurial Podcast: Interviews with Older Entrepreneurs | Online Business Tips | Learn From Those Who Have Succeeded

Jane Pollak is one of the Northeast's foremost coaches of entrepreneurial women and a living example of how to turn a passion into a thriving business. A successful entrepreneur, public speaker, author and business coach, Jane launched her professional career in an unlikely field – egg decoration. After earning a Masters from Columbia Teachers College, Jane taught high school early on in her career. What began as a class project became a passion for pysanky – the Ukranian word for “eggs which have been written on.” Jane’s artistic talents and keen attention to the smallest detail were ideally suited for this precise, highly creative art form. Even so, there were times when the challenges of part-time entrepreneurship and motherhood– Jane was raising three children in suburban Connecticut – required real tenacity and perseverance. Jane’s story is an odyssey that led her from remote craft fairs and customer rejections to an invitation to the White House and appearances on NBC’s Today Show. National publications featured Jane’s artwork as early as 1985, when her patchwork quilt eggs were showcased in Country Living Magazine. Since then, her work has appeared in The New York Times and other prominent publications. As her youngest child headed off to school, Jane focused on further developing her business. A lifelong learner, she sought advice and wisdom in audio books by motivational and business gurus, such as Roger Dawson, Wayne Dyer and Brian Tracy. And something sparked. Jane found herself wanting to inspire and guide other creative professionals to achieve greater success. Her unique experience as an accomplished entrepreneur and training as a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach resulted in a powerful, effective new business direction. Since then, Jane has helped thousands of entrepreneurial women — at all stages of their careers – achieve uncommon success. The lessons Jane learned along the way led her to share her story and give advice to struggling entrepreneurs, traveling the country and beyond. Jane joined the National Speakers Association in 1997, and published her book, Soul Proprietor: 101 Lessons from a Lifestyle Entrepreneur in 2001. The Small Business Administration named Jane the 2002 Home-Based Business Advocate for the entire New England region. Jane continues to share inspirational, yet practical lessons with creative professionals. In addition to coaching, speaking nationally and blogging, she hosts Remarkable Women networking events and seasonal retreats. Ever-current with today’s business challenges, she recently re-released Soul Proprietor, complete with updated, timely lessons on pursuing your dreams during an economic downturn and leveraging new technology to authentically promote your business.

Story 1 - Summer Camping Reservations Filling Up Fast In Episode 17, I suggested that anybody thinking of camping in the mountain national parks this summer make a point of booking their sites as soon as the summer reservation system opened on January 11. As it turned out, the reservations went far quicker than anyone had anticipated.  According to a story on the CBC website, some 9,300 reservations were made in the first 4 hours after the site opened up. This is a whopping 55% increase over 2016. Outside of the mountain parks, Alberta's provincial park reservation system opens Feb 21 and it will likely also be a frenzy of activity. Think of it like you're booking concert tickets. Divide and conquer. Get multiple people trying to grab your booking on different computers and you can up your chances of grabbing key sites before the dreaded 'no availability' message. It's a race these days and if the provincial sites in Alberta and British Columbia reflect the trend set on the national level then it will be a race to the booking page.  Story 2 - 5.7 Million Investment in Radium Hotsprings For those of us that like to bask in the hot springs for which the Canadian Rockies are famous, this story brings news of some long needed renovations to the Radium hot springs in Kootenay National Park. The hot pools, like many older facilities under the care of Parks Canada, have been showing their age in the past few years. Radium Hot Springs was the first major building project in the western parks following the end of World War II. It's an important heritage building so the renovations will focus on both protecting the building and improving the facilities for the future. While disturbances to guests will be minimized, it will be necessary to implement some temporary closures. The work began in 2016 and is scheduled to continue throughout 2017. There renos have several primary goals. One is to create a themed diner and replace all of the associated electrical and mechanical systems, along with changing the floor plan. This first phase is scheduled to finish sometime this month. However due to the age of the facility, other mechanical and electrical systems within the complex will also have to be replaced and upgraded. This will include improvements to the geothermal heating system and the water system. They’ll also be replacing all the water lines and the filtration system for the pool The pedestrian bridge and walkway are also being repaired and upgraded, including improvements the lighting and adding additional landscaping. Story 3 – Layers in the Rock Have you ever noticed the way a good covering of snow helps to bring out the layers in the surrounding peaks. In summer, the mountains tend to look like one large rock, however, when the snows come, the individual layers suddenly stand out starkly against the sky. Looking up at mountains like Rundle we are struck by the steeply angled layers, and we often forget that these rocks were once submerged deeply underwater. I often find myself amazed by the discovery of a fossils like brachiopods, a small clam-like animal, at elevations exceeding 3,000 metres or 10,000 feet--especially when I realize they've been dead for hundreds of millions of years.  Story 4 -  Small Town Canada On January 11, Country Living Magazine out of the U.S. published a story titled "40 Canadian Towns you haven't heard of but should visit ASAP". The article was motivated by Canada's celebration of its 150th birthday this year. The magazine takes a very brief look at 40 towns that are worth getting to know, not just because it's our birthday, but, well just because they're awesome. As a long-time small town dweller I was curious to see some of the places they might recommend. I was pleasantly surprised to see their number one spot - Jasper, Alberta. The article commended Jasper as having some of the best aerial views  in the Rockies. Jasper is not only the focal point of Jasper National Park, but it is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site. Situated along the banks of the Athabasca River, Jasper is the most southern community along the Arctic Ocean Watershed. The Athabasca River will eventually join the great Mackenzie River system in the Arctic. Second on the list, and dear to my heart, is Canmore, the town I've called home for the past 30 years. It describes it as a wildlife corridor where bears, cougars, wolves, and elk roam freely. Canmore is a former coal mining town that has become known as the gateway to Alberta's Banff National Park as well as Kananaskis Country, Alberta's best kept secret. Over the years, it has grown to dwarf Banff townsite as it sits outside the mountain national parks and has historically had less restrictions on development. While it has been feeling the squeeze of development over the past few years, Canmore truly is one of the gems on the Canadian Landscape. Cochrane, ranked third on the list. While hardly a small town, was selected for its western Canadian cowboy culture. Nearby, Glenbow Ranch and Big Hill Springs Provincial Parks are two nearby attractions. After Cochrane, the list takes a trip west towards Bowen Island, Prince Rupert, Tofino, and Oliver, British Columbia. It then veers eastward before returning to Banff, Alberta in the number 18 spot. Banff needs no introduction. It was the site of Canada's first national park and the past and current headquarters for exploring the Canadian Rocky Mountains. I hope that many Americans, who are the target of this U.S. publication, will read the article and take the time to visit these Canadian gems. Just remember, this is going to be a busy year and you'll want to plan your visit. Canada is a vast landscape with a myriad of amazing destinations.
