Netflix's new documentary "Evil Influencer: The Jodi Hildebrandt Story" drops December 30th, and it finally shifts the focus to where it belongs — not on Ruby Franke, but on the woman Ruby herself blamed for leading her into what she called "a dark delusion." Jodi Hildebrandt wasn't just Ruby's business partner. She was a licensed mental health counselor with a documented history of ethical violations, a pattern of isolating clients from their families, and an ideology that former clients say destroyed marriages and lives for nearly two decades before she ever met Ruby Franke. In 2012, her license was put on probation for disclosing confidential patient information without consent. The LDS Church removed her from their referral list. And she just kept going — rebranding as a "life coach" and building ConneXions into an online empire targeting vulnerable people within the Mormon community. Former clients described the same playbook over and over: separate spouses, pathologize normal behavior as addiction, cut off anyone who questions her, position herself as the only source of truth. One therapist who trained under her said publicly, "I believe she is evil. I don't say that lightly." Then Ruby Franke entered the picture. And things escalated to levels that would shock even seasoned investigators — duct tape, rope, cayenne pepper in open wounds, children forced to believe they deserved the torture they were receiving. Both women pleaded guilty to aggravated child abuse. Both were sentenced to four to thirty years. But the only reason any of this came to light is because a twelve-year-old boy climbed out a window and asked a stranger for help. A child had to save himself because every system that should have protected him failed. On December 2, the OneBC party released its documentary Making a Killing: Reconciliation, genocide and plunder in Canada. Since then, the writer and producer of the film Tim Thielmann, has been fired along with two other senior staff. MLA Dallas Brodie has herself been removed as interim party leader. But the documentary lives on, with Dallas Brodie voicing Thielmann's script and interviewing all the guests. We talk about the film with Sean Carleton, professor of history and Indigenous studies at the University of Manitoba.

In February, American President Donald Trump signed an executive order which said that South African Afrikaners - descendants of mainly Dutch settlers who arrived in the 17th Century - could be admitted as refugees in the USA as they were "victims of unjust racial discrimination". President Trump's move to prioritise the resettlement of white South African farmers reignited global controversy when he referenced what he has described as a “genocide” against white farmers. Thousands of South Africans have now applied for refugee status in the USA, and are waiting to potentially relocate there. Farmers in South Africa are predominantly white, but farmers and farm workers of all races fear theft and violent crime in the country. Claire Mawisa is a reporter for BBC Africa Eye and recently travelled to meet farmers in South Africa. Kings, or chiefs, in Ghana don't hold much formal or political power, but they are hugely important to people and hold a lot of cultural and social influence. But there are also powerful royal women in Ghana. They've held power in certain parts of the country for a long time, but it seems their influence is now on the rise. It is a story that caught the eye of Stefania Okereke of BBC Focus on Africa. Documentary "If You Tell Anyone"-The Brett Allan Show If You Tell Anyone… is a Documentary written and produced by Norman Fried, PhD; Nathan Spiteri, and Dean Love.   This film is based on the true-life story of Australian born author/actor Nathan Spiteri, adapted from his memoir Toy Cars; One Man's Journey from Trauma to Triumph. Raped at the age of 8 years old by a man in a public locker room, Nathan endured five years of repeated abuse. His abuser kept him quiet by telling him… “If you tell anyone, I'll kill you and I'll kill your whole family.” As in all abusive relationships, Nathan was groomed and manipulated to believe that what was happening to him was his own fault.  Nathan was unable to tell anyone about what had happened to him for 25 years. As a result, his adult life spiraled into addictions to alcohol, drugs and sex. He became suicidal before finally breaking down and telling someone what had happened to him.   Nathan is now able to tell his story through the artistic structure of this documentary. The film explores the arch of transformation that young Nathan underwent as he discovered a more redemptive way of living and healing. This film is based on the true-life story of Australian born author/actor Nathan Spiteri, adapted from his memoir Toy Cars; One Man's Journey from Trauma to Triumph. Raped at the age of 8 years old by a man in a public locker room, Nathan endured five years of repeated abuse. His abuser kept him quiet by telling him… "If you tell anyone, I'll kill you and I'll kill your whole family." As in all abusive relationships, Nathan was groomed and manipulated to believe that what was happening to him was his own fault.  Nathan was unable to tell anyone about what had happened to him for 25 years. As a result, his adult life spiraled into addictions to alcohol, drugs and sex. He became suicidal before finally breaking down and telling someone what had happened to him. Nathan is now able to tell his story through the artistic structure of this documentary. The film explores the arch of transformation that young Nathan underwent as he discovered a more redemptive way of living and healing. Through real footage of trauma therapy sessions, Nathan and Dr. Norman Fried describe how healing from child sex abuse is possible. The goal of the film is to inspire other abuse victims to speak up and to get the help they need; while also helping parents and other caretakers recognize the dangers and symptoms of a child who may be being sexually abused.
