Europe led growth, North America hit a record as buyers rushed to secure tax credits, and China saw robust, if moderating, expansion, while BYD cut its sales target but expects significant overseas volume. FORD'S FOCUS-SIZED RECOVERY PLAN Ford will launch a new mid-sized crossover in 2027, built in Valencia, Spain, reflecting a shift toward affordable EVs following Fiesta and Focus factory closures. The model will compete directly with the likes of Tiguan and Sportage at a mid-£30,000 price point—aiming to recover relevance with lower emissions and competitive pricing without expecting past market share highs. EUROPEAN AUTOMAKERS SEEK 2035 FLEXIBILITY European automotive leaders are calling for flexibility in the EU's 2035 ban on petrol and diesel cars, citing tougher global supply chains and increased reliance on Chinese battery suppliers. Automakers advocate for hybrids and transitional support beyond 2035, while member states like Italy and France push for exceptions, highlighting the division over the full fossil fuel phase-out deadline. TOYOTA BUILDS EV SUVS IN KENTUCKY Toyota will begin producing its first electric vehicles in the U.S. next year, including two three-row SUVs at its Georgetown, Kentucky site, part of a $1.3 billion investment focused on domestic EV growth. The move aims to serve rising American demand, add jobs, and advance Toyota toward carbon neutrality by 2050, while balancing hybrids, plug-ins, and full EVs. STELLANTIS CANCELS ELECTRIC RAM 1500 REV Ram has scrapped its planned all-electric 1500 REV pickup in favor of a plug-in hybrid model, citing weak demand for battery-only trucks and financial constraints at Stellantis. The new Ram REV, featuring a gasoline generator with over 690 miles of range, appeals to users needing greater towing and long-distance capability, while Stellantis refocuses on hybrids and profitable platforms. NISSAN MICRA LIVE EVENT SHOWCASES NEW SUPERMINI EV Nissan unveiled its fully electric sixth-generation MICRA in Rotterdam, built on the dedicated AmpR platform, offering two battery sizes, 198–260 miles WLTP range, and advanced handling and tech features. Starting at £21,495 in the UK with government support, deliveries begin January 2026 as MICRA leads Nissan's European EV lineup expansion. GM REAFFIRMS EV-ONLY FUTURE, SLOWS TRANSITION GM CEO Mary Barra reaffirmed the company's long-term goal of going all-electric by 2035, positioning it as a strategic "North Star". However, she acknowledged that the full transition may take decades due to industry complexity and evolving market and regulatory challenges. AMAZON TESTS GM BRIGHTDROP DELIVERY VANS Amazon has started testing GM's BrightDrop electric vans alongside its existing Rivian fleet, part of its strategy to deploy 100,000 electric delivery vehicles by 2030. The pilot comes as GM faces production slowdowns, offering a chance to boost BrightDrop's visibility and demand while Amazon diversifies its supplier base. VOLVO CEO EXPECTS OTHER BRANDS TO FAIL Volvo recently rehired former CEO Håkan Samuelsson, who affirmed the inevitability of electrification and predicted only a few Chinese brands will dominate globally in the next decade. He expects legacy automakers will struggle, with survival dependent on agility and partnership with advanced firms like Geely, as newcomers like Tesla and BYD reshape the market. CHINA AUTO INDUSTRY THREAT TO GLOBAL MARKET Industry experts at the Detroit Automotive News Congress warned that U.S. automakers are underestimating the competitive threat posed by Chinese brands, whose EV market share in China surged to 50%. Fierce home competition is fueling aggressive export plans, targeting Europe, Mexico, and North America, with cost and technology advantages challenging established automakers. HYUNDAI-LG GEORGIA BATTERY PLANT STARTUP DELAY Hyundai and LG's Georgia battery plant faces a two- to three-month startup delay after a major U.S. immigration raid detained hundreds of workers, most employed by LG suppliers. Hyundai will offset production impact by sourcing batteries from other facilities while both governments negotiate skilled labor solutions for future projects. SCOUT CEO ARGUES FOR DIRECT SALES STRATEGY Scout Motors CEO Scott Keogh stated the company will pursue direct sales, comparing traditional dealer model unfavorably to buying directly from Apple and advocating for a seamless brand experience. He dismissed dealers as a distraction, reinforcing direct-to-consumer as the company's strategic retail approach. MAINE DISTRICTS FACE ELECTRIC SCHOOL BUS SERVICE ISSUES Maine school districts have seen electric buses sidelined due to unresolved service issues, with manufacturer Lion Electric's bankruptcy halting repairs and parts, leaving districts stuck with non-functional vehicles under federal grant terms. The state faces mounting frustration, a federal lawsuit against Lion, and reliance on emergency replacement options while the EPA oversees the troubled program.

We staan alleen.” "Die juichen 'America First!'.

In this episode of Fingal's Cave, host Ian Priston talks with Steve Anderson - creator of the iconic Floydboots website, visited over a million times by collectors, and author of the 2024 book Wizardo: Stories of a Bootlegger.Steve reflects on five decades of Pink Floyd: from being a 12-year-old at Wembley Empire Pool in November 1974 and the heartbreak of his prized Stoke bootleg being broken - to the challenge of hunting down and thrill of listening to rare titles. He recalls leaving home at 3am from Knebworth 1975, the ferocity and spectacle of the Animals tour, the monumental experience of The Wall shows, and meeting the band at the premiere of The Wall film.Steve also shares two extraordinary encounters with Syd Barrett in the 1990s - fleeting but unforgettable glimpses of the band's elusive founding genius. Along the way, he discusses Barrett superfan the late Bernard White, the legacy of John Wizardo, his adventures as a record dealer, and the time he was offered Roger Waters' Live at Pompeii bass. It is a fascinating story of how a lifetime can be shaped by music, soundtracked by Pink Floyd. This episode is in stereo - because, well, it just had to be. And if you think you hear a fly buzzing, dogs wanting attention, or even church bells chiming in the distance… you are not imagining things. Consider them accidental Pink Floyd–style sound effects.Subscribe to Fingal's Cave for more journeys to the edges of Pink Floyd music history.

Where in the world am I? In San Diego today. Trip Summary 2   Hi there. I'm Dr. Mary Travelbest, recently on a 90-day journey around the world, excited to connect with fellow travelers and share our experiences.   Listener Story Spotlight    Today's listener story is about 79 year old Sandi Biback who I met in Toronto and helped organize an afternoon with women from the JourneyWoman organization. She was called in to help and rose to the occasion. She is traveling to Bhutan in October and has shared several tips with me for purchasing Travel insurance. She's seasoned in Travel experiences and business conferences. She has been an active traveler for many decades. I tip my head to you, Sandi, and thank you for helping out in Toronto. Quick-fire FAQ: The FAQ for today is: about Single Supplements. These are extra fees that are essentially doubled when part of a package group tour. Refer to the notes for further information on this topic. When do I want to pay for them or not? Look at this link.    There may be times you will pay for this, but the practice is getting attention with cruise ship business, and the more successful ones are eliminating the fees or reducing them dramatically. I had to pay for a whole room on my cruise from Helsinki to Stockholm for one night. It was a tiny room on one of the lower levels, with no window. I'll address this issue again in future episodes, but I'd like to hear from you on the topic, too.   60-second confidence challenge   Find a world map, whether it is a flat map, a round map, or an atlas. Get one and explore the map as if you lived in the world. You do. I challenge you to know your geography a little better than you did yesterday. If you like today's Confidence Challenge, Chapter 3 of my book dives deeper—link in description.”   See Book A for addressing all of these items. Find it on our website at https://www.5stepstosolotravel.com/ or on Amazon. It's a several-part series.   Destination Deep‑Dive Today's special destination is:  A summary of my 90-day trip. Part Two  I ended Part One of this summary with my visit to South Africa, specifically Johannesburg. Let's move forward now on the second half. I flew on the shortest day of the year in the southern hemisphere, June 21, to the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere on June 22, when I landed in Athens, Greece, flying through and stopping off in Qatar overnight. Qatar's airport was immense.e I was shocked at how large it was. It was actually like a little city and quite the Commerce capital of the world from my perspective. You could stay there for weeks without going outside if you wanted to. There was just so much going on at any time of the day. I tried to access the airport lounge as I had a very long layover. Still, they insisted I couldn't check in until three hours before my flight or something like that, so I had to shop and come back. When I did go to the airport lounge, it was delightful, even at two in the morning. My credit card for this trip allowed me to use the Priority Pass lounges and even bring a guest, so I took advantage of that benefit and passed it on to others who became friends along the way. Now back to Greece. I didn't have a clear plan for what I was going to do in Athens. I stayed at a hostel located in a not-so-great area of the city. It was on the fringe, and by that I mean the only stores nearby were small markets that primarily sold take-out groceries. No other stores, such as dry cleaners or dog grooming shops, were in the neighborhood. The residents here were mainly short-termers, not people planning to stay for very long, hence markets that sold convenience goods. However, they were not called 7-11's or chain stores, and inside, they had a small selection because the stores were small for the most part. There were many intersecting streets, and not all of them had well-marked names. I also had some struggles with Google Maps on this trip, but I enjoyed the visit nonetheless. I went to an island called Hydra. The locals called Ira, and then I also went and visited an island called Paris. I stayed overnight on the island and had a pleasant visit, spending time swimming in the ocean, hiking along the shore, and exploring its natural beauty.  The next day, when I returned to Athens, I checked back into the hostel, more for convenience and budget, and stayed one more night. I did feel a bit more secure. I remember it being so hot that even several stores and shops had closed. I took a taxi to the Acropolis Museum and enjoyed the air conditioning inside before heading back to my Hostel. The next day, I took a train to Thessaloniki, a five-hour ride, and stayed there for two nights to explore the outskirts of other cities beyond Athens. I returned to Athens a few days later and visited the Acropolis, the architectural museum, as well as several other local places of interest. I flew to Krakow, Poland, and then to Warsaw, Poland. I then returned to Dansk for another night. These cities hold significant historical importance for World War II. However, when I arrived at Dansk, I saw the World War II museum and realized that it had many artifacts well displayed for the public. If you're in Dansk, Poland I recommend this museum. Some of the things I did in Dansk, such as getting a haircut and having a massage, were important for self-care. After, I flew to Finland and then took a ferry to Estonia for a few days. Then I went back to Helsinki and stayed some time there before going to Stockholm, Sweden, and then going to Oslo and then to Bergen, Norway for a few days, I went back to Oslo and then went to Copenhagen for a few days and then I went to our house denmark, and then back to Copenhagen before going to the Netherlands. I had a friend in the Netherlands. I visited Melvin, who lived in Amsterdam, but I also visited Haarlem, Rotterdam, and Harlem while I was there. Afterwards, I flew to Edinburgh, Scotland, and took a train to North Berwick, where I spent a wonderful day exploring, swimming, and getting to know the town. I left Edinburgh for Halifax, Nova Scotia, on July 27 and spent the next two weeks in Canada. I enjoyed the Eastern Canadian hospitality, the Celtic culture, and the nature I saw throughout the 1,500 kilometers I drove. I finished my week in Toronto, exploring Niagara Falls, the city, and its suburbs, and swam three times during my stay. It was hot before I came home to San Diego.   Smart Move and Slip-up pairings    My slip-up in Edinburgh was dropping my iPad on my tiny toe at 5 AM in the dark. I was hurt, but I didn't know how badly it had broken. Four other people were sleeping in my hostel room at the time. I was getting ready to leave for the airport when this happened. Still, three weeks later, my toe is sensitive, but I think it will be okay. My lesson for you is this: when you're packing your bags, turn the light on so you can see what won't fall on your foot.   60-second confidence challenge    Here's my challenge for you.   My travel challenge for you is to get to know your apps on your phone. Download at least three travel apps, including Google Maps, Rome2Rio, and consider moving it. You might have some other good apps that you would recommend, so please let me know what they are. You need these to help you navigate your way in a new city or a new country. Always download your city's Google map so that you have it if you're not in a Wi-Fi area. Download it in advance.   Resources Roundup    One of my favorite apps is called Currency. I can look at the currency of my current location and compare it to another currency, such as the US dollar or the currency of a destination I may be traveling to. This Currency App is a valuable resource that does not require Wi-Fi to use.   Take away mantra and goodbye.    Today's takeaway is about not trying to see everything on your first visit; save something for later. Be kind to yourself and don't try to overextend; just do what you can.   Thanks for listening. Be encouraged to travel with confidence.

How can plant-based oils help solve some of the food industry's biggest challenges? From reducing greenhouse gas emissions to cutting costs, while maintaining great taste, plant-based oils are emerging as a powerful solution for manufacturers facing mounting pressure to deliver sustainable, affordable, and delicious products. But with concerns around deforestation and responsible sourcing, how do we harness their benefits without causing more harm? In this episode of the Food Matters Live podcast, made in partnership with AAK, we explore how innovative plant-based oil technologies are transforming everything from butter and dairy alternatives to chocolate and hybrid meats. We dive deep into Life Cycle Assessment tools, that help customers reduce their carbon footprint, discover how removing the "mediator" (livestock) can dramatically cut emissions, and tackle the complex conversation around palm oil. Our guests share real-world examples of how these solutions are helping manufacturers balance competing demands: delivering better taste, better health, better sustainability, and better costs all at once. AAK are a lead partner for the Food Matters Live events in Rotterdam and Ascot. AAK AAK are experts in plant-based oils and fats, the value-adding ingredients in many products people love to consume. They make these products better tasting, healthier, and more sustainable. At the heart of AAK's offer is Customer Co-Development, combining their desire to understand what Making Better Happen™ means for each customer, with the unique flexibility of their production assets, and deep knowledge of products and industries, including Chocolate & Confectionery, Bakery, Dairy, Plant-based Foods, Special Nutrition, Foodservice, and Personal Care. Meet AAK at Food Matters Live in Ascot and Rotterdam where they will be showcasing their innovative ingredient solutions and discussing solutions to real-world challenges around functionality, sustainability, and cost optimization.

Tragisch genoeg onbewust. Feedback daarop verdraagt men niet. ALEX GERLIS chats to Paul Burke about his WWII spy thriller THE SECOND TRAITOR, Operation Sea Lion, Hitler as military commander, German spies in England and Alan Furst.THE SECOND TRAITOR The countdown to invasion begins... It's September 1940, and British intelligence is on high alert: the Nazi invasion of Britain is imminent. The German navy is assembling a vast fleet in Rotterdam to ferry men and materiel across the Channel. Meanwhile, a sinister organisation called The Group – a collection of British and Irish Nazi collaborators – is at work within the UK trying to pave the way for the Wehrmacht. The Invasion Warning Sub-Committee is established to counter this threat, and Charles Cooper, coming in from the cold after the disintegration of The Annexe, joins up and is tasked with cracking this nefarious network. But that is not the only concern for the spy chiefs: the search for double agent ‘Archie' – the Soviet spy and British traitor – is hotting up: they are now confident he works within MI6, and an elaborate scheme is set up to narrow down the list of suspects… To make things worse, they now know for certain that a second traitor, ‘Bertie', is also in play. With suspicion at paranoia pitch, can MI6 clean house before the Nazis arrive to help them do it?ALEX GERLIS was born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire. He worked for the BBC as a journalist for many years, starting out as a researcher on a three-month contract on Panorama and ending his career there nearly thirty years later as Head of Training in the BBC College of Journalism.  In between, he was an editor of a number of Television News programmes. Alex left the BBC in 2011 to concentrate on his writing.  Alex is married to Sonia and lives in west London and has two daughters and two grandsons, even though he is obviously not old enough to be a grandfather. Contrary to what many readers seem to believe, he's never worked in the world of espionage. Alex has the usual hobbies and interests one expects and has supported Grimsby Town since 1968. His books contain cryptic references to the club, which only Mariners fans will appreciate.Recommendations Alan Furst, le Carré, Graham Greene, IS Berry.Paul Burke writes for Monocle Magazine, Crime Time, Crime Fiction Lover and the European Literature Network, Punk Noir Magazine (fiction contribution). We begin with Tom's transatlantic flight in economy (the horror!) before learning about local transport options when traveling from Amsterdam to Rotterdam. Tom goes on to deliver an overview of the Holland America cruise line as we hear about the on-board food quality, housekeeping and safety protocols, how they live entertainment measures up against Royal Caribbean's benchmark, and everything you need to know about the Holland America casino. We also unpack multiple chance encounters Tom had with familiar faces, as well as his highlights from the ports and tourist attractions he visited. To end, Tom details his journey home on a low-cost carrier airline, and Trevor offers a sneak peek into his upcoming cruise on one of the Mediterranean's largest vessels.       Key Points From This Episode: [00:00] How Tom's summer trip began with a transatlantic flight in economy to Amsterdam.    [06:43] Getting to port: How he traveled from Amsterdam to Rotterdam.    [15:16] An overview of the Holland America Rotterdam.   [16:18] Food quality on board, how the main dining room works, and housekeeping protocols.  [20:18] How the live entertainment measures up against the Royal Caribbean benchmark.   [23:01] Chance encounters with familiar faces, sharing points and rewards, and gift cards.  [29:21] Highlights of the Holland America casino. It was very reasonable and pretty comfortable. Lately, all my transatlantic flights have been economy, one stop over the Atlantic, and they've been working out so far.” — @TktweetsKim [05:18] “The quality of food was very high, and we only did complimentary food; we didn't go to any specialty restaurants.” — @TktweetsKim [16:48] “One of the things that always separates a cruise experience from almost any other vacation experience [is] the ability to have a meal at the same time, with the same waiter, [and] at the same table. You get this feeling like you're a local by the second or third day.” — @tmount [17:51] “The live music was good, and if you're a music lover, you'll probably find something to enjoy. [However], if you're looking for an ice show or acrobatics or a Broadway musical, I don't think you're going to find it on Holland America.” — @TktweetsKim [21:58] “I'm so glad I didn't have to buy too much in Iceland because everything is expensive there.” — @TktweetsKim [42:21] Links Mentioned in Today's Episode: Holland America Rotterdam KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Winmatch365 Chase Sapphire Airport Lounges Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport JetBlue Hurdy Gurdy Travel Podcast Princess Cruises Norwegian Fjords Cruises Celebrity Cruises Carnival Cruise Line Royal Caribbean Cruises Episode 33: Cruise Loyalty with Traveling Well for Less' Debra Schroeder Port of Rotterdam Ålesund City & Surroundings Akureyri, Iceland | Arctic Wonders on a European Cruise Mývatn Nature Baths Goðafoss Waterfall Ísafjörður, Iceland | Wild Westfjords on an Iceland Cruise Keflavík International Airport Icelandair WOW Air The Ritz-Carlton Thomas Kim on X Trevor Mountcastle on X The Milenomics Podcast Network

Thanks for joining us for another week of news, coaching tips and discussion.   We are back after being away at USAT Nationals in Milwaukee and TriDot Pool School in Tempe, Arizona.   April, how was it coaching swimming on the Sun?   Rich, I might as well be walking on the sun, LOL! I remember I texted you and Coach La that I was living in Satan's butthole the past couple of days. I thought I was going to melt a couple of times. We had an improvement rate 15% across the board. Coach Dennis Hetland and I had the privilege of running Lane 3 – Aim High! – and we say remarkable results in both dropping stroke counts and smashing the 100-yard benchmark.   I want to give a special shout-out to Coach Gene Deyoe who was in my lane. Coach Gene dropped two strokes from his 25-yard distance, and 11 seconds off his 100-yard time! He had such a great attitude and always appreciated the feedback we gave. He was a joy to coach.   Second, we had Jay Camp, Coach Chad Rolf's athlete, in our lane and he was a hoot to work with! I especially enjoyed his dry sense of humor–very much like Coach Chad. He was also very receptive to feedback and his results showed how much work he put into his Functional Freestyle. He reduced his stroke count by 4 for 25 yards which is massive! Think about all that energy he will save because of his efficiency in the water! Get this, he shaved 29 seconds off his 100-yard benchmark. I was blown away by his improvements. He winked at me and told me not to tell his coach, which I promptly did LOL! Can't wait to hear how his new zones treat him after that incredible improvement.   Finally, the last thing I'll share is that even though it was hotter than hell on deck, we had some of the best lifeguards. They would come around every 20 minutes or so with buckets of cold water with rags that we could put on our heads and necks. It kept me from being a heat casualty for sure as the temps reached 114 degrees. So again, thank you to the McClintock Pool Lifeguards for coming in clutch last weekend! You made our pool school a huge success!    USAT Nationals Update: Milwaukee transformed into the epicenter of multisport excellence as it hosted the 2025 USA Triathlon Sprint and Olympic Distance National Championships. Thousands of amateur athletes from across the country descended on the city to compete, connect, and celebrate the sport we love. Race Highlights The action kicked off Friday with an open water swim in Lake Michigan, open to all registrants. Saturday brought the Olympic Distance National Championships, featuring a 1,500m swim, 40k bike, and 10k run. Athletes raced through Milwaukee's scenic lakefront, crossing the iconic Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge and finishing in Veterans Park [1]. Sunday was slated for the Sprint Distance Nationals and Paratriathlon Championships, but heavy overnight rain led to the cancellation of the sprint race for safety reasons [1]. Despite the disappointment, many athletes expressed gratitude for having raced earlier in the weekend. One athlete shared on Facebook: “Grateful I got to race yesterday. The stitches and bandaging got me through great. Heat, humidity, and wind were the factor yesterday, not the ankle wrap.” Yes, you heard that right—this athlete raced with stitches, tetanus, and antibiotics after a pre-race injury involving a bike and a hotel room. Talk about grit and determination! Celebration of Sport Gala & Hall of Fame Inductions Thursday night's Celebration of Sport Gala, hosted at Discovery World, was a moving tribute to the spirit of triathlon. The event honored the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame Class XIII, which included: Colleen Cannon – 1984 Nice World Champion and founder of Women's Quest. Graham Fraser – Race producer and visionary behind Ironman North America. Ellen Hart – 18-time World Age Group Champion and Ironman podium regular. Paul Martin – Paratriathlon legend and author who turned adversity into triumph. Kenny Souza – Duathlon pioneer and charismatic ambassador of the sport [2] [3]. Here's a breakdown of the 2025 USA Triathlon Hall of Fame inductees and their connections to Colorado: Colleen Cannon Lives in Boulder, Colorado. After retiring from professional racing, she founded Women's Quest, a Boulder-based adventure retreat company focused on empowering women through outdoor activities and wellness. She was inducted into the Boulder Sports Hall of Fame in 2017 [1]. Ellen Hart Lives in Niwot, Colorado, and previously served as First Lady of Denver during her marriage to former Denver Mayor Federico Peña. She is a longtime Colorado resident, Harvard graduate, and University of Colorado Law School alum. Hart has been a prominent figure in the Colorado endurance community and was inducted into the Colorado Running Hall of Fame [2]. Final Thoughts Milwaukee once again proved why it's a favorite host city for USA Triathlon. From the scenic course to the passionate community, the weekend was a celebration of perseverance, excellence, and camaraderie. After years of competing in the figure and bodybuilding world, she found her way into multisport through duathlon in 2018 and transitioned to triathlon in 2019. She now races across sprint, Olympic, and 70.3 distances, with 70.3 being her favorite. Lauren is passionate about working with athletes of all backgrounds and experience levels, helping them navigate real-life challenges—like time constraints, fitness level, or self-doubt—to discover what they're truly capable of. As the Grit2Greatness Ambassador Program Manager, Lauren will lead the charge in building a vibrant community of athletes who proudly represent G2G—at races, on social media, and in everyday moments that matter. She's here to empower you, connect you, and help each of you feel even more supported on this journey. Lauren, we are beyond excited to have you on board Questions for Lauren: Two Truths and a LIe Icebreaker: I danced on stage with Brittney Spears, I once got lost on a training ride and ended up in a different state; Before being an endurance athlete, I competed as a pro with the International Federation of Body Builders Where did you grow up and where do you call home? Tell us about your athlete journey? Tell us about your coach journey? Your vision for the G2G ambassador program? When I think about the Grit2Greatness Ambassador Program, I picture a true community—one that builds on the incredible foundation we've already created, but keeps growing in depth, reach, and connection. In our world, every athlete has a seat at the table. Whether you're brand new to the sport or you've been racing for decades, whether you prefer the excitement of a sprint or the challenge of an IRONMAN, you belong here. This is a space where every athlete is encouraged to step in, be seen, and thrive. My biggest hope for this year is to welcome a wave of new athletes into triathlon—people who may have been curious, but unsure if they'd fit in—and show them that this sport is for everyone. And beyond racing, I want this to be a place where we support each other's growth both inside and outside of sport. I'd love for us to lead more community events, take part in races together, and deepen relationships with race directors and the brands that make our sport stronger. My heart tells me this program is just at the beginning of its potential, and I truly cannot wait to see what we create together. Get Gritty Tip: 66-Day Challenge! Rich, as you know, I am a huge fan of the book, The ONE Thing, by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan and one of the favorite lessons I learned is about the power of breaking down habits into bite size pieces that you can consistently sustain over time. I've actually crafted several keystone habits over the past five years through using the tools from The ONE Thing.  For example, I built the habit of setting aside my gym clothes every night before work. We have our habit of reading the Daily Stoic as a morning ritual, and now we share our 3 wins and 3 things we are grateful for each day. These habits have been critical for helping me make each day purpose-driven and intentionally meaningful. So that brings me to the habit I am now currently working on. I decided at the beginning of the year that I wanted to complete 10 unassisted pull-ups by the end of 2025. I was going strong for the first 3 months and kind of fell off with the start of race season. Well, after doing my mid-year reset I realized I needed to get back on the proverbial horse, and what better way to do that than a 66-day pull-up challenge! So why 66 days? If you've read The ONE Thing then you'll remember in Chapter #6 the discussion around a study the University College of London did on how long it takes on average to create a habit–66 days. So my challenge, because I know how important it is to start small, is to complete 1 pull per day for 66 days. Now, I do as many as I can and right now, I'm on Day 10 and I'm up to 4 unassisted pull-ups. I also use a band and knock out as many as I can with the assist to help me continue to progress. I'm also hoping I can start adding in weighted pull-ups as we get further down the road. The other part of the challenge is to post the evidence on social media which 1) keeps me accountable, and 2) inspires others to join me! I found out today that Coach Will Nichols, @coachironwill on Instagram, bought his own pull-up bar and started his 66-day pull-up challenge!  So I want to throw the challenge out there to you, Rich, and to our audience! It doesn't have to be pull-ups, but what's one thing you can commit to doing for 66 days that helps you on your athletic journey! I want you to share with us and tag me @getgrittywithme on Instagram so I can cheer you on just like Coach Will!   TriDot Workout of the Week: Orientation Swim   Open Water Swim is the Workout of the Week I've chosen for a couple of reasons. One, it is so helpful to get in the body of water you will be racing in and get a feel for swim start, current, temperature, lighting, sun direction, weeds, swim exit, which goggles work best,  etc.    In Milwaukee this was key. They had the course setup and we were able to swim the buoys through the bridge and practice the swim exit as it would be on race day. It also gave us the opportunity  to get comfortable with the high likelihood of the race not being wetsuit legal.I chose to do the practice swim in just my TriDot swim jammers.   Here's a full list of benefits: Course Familiarization Swim the actual course (or as much as allowed) to understand sighting landmarks, turns, and exit points. Identify key buoys: Start buoy, turn buoys, and finish buoy. Practice sighting using fixed landmarks (buildings, trees, flags) beyond the buoys. Note water entry and exit terrain: Is it sandy, rocky, slippery, or grassy? Environmental Awareness Assess water conditions: Temperature, current, chop, visibility. Practice breathing on both sides if waves or sun glare may affect one side. Check for wind direction and how it may affect swim navigation. Gear Check Test your race-day gear: Goggles (anti-fog), wetsuit, swim cap. Practice wetsuit entry and exit to simulate transitions. Try different goggles if visibility or sun glare is an issue. Mental Preparation Visualize race morning: From lining up at the start to exiting the water. Practice your start strategy: Deep water start, beach start, or time trial start. Swim with others to simulate race-day contact and drafting. Technique & Strategy Practice sighting rhythm: Every 6–10 strokes is typical. Work on pacing: Start controlled, build into race effort. Try drafting behind or beside another swimmer if allowed. Safety & Logistics Locate lifeguards or safety personnel and understand emergency protocols. Note the location of medical tents or aid stations near swim exit. Time your swim to understand how long it takes at race pace.   Fun Segment: Triathlon Hot Takes Debate! So I happened upon this article in Triathlete Magazine titled “7 Spicy-Hot Debates Triathletes Can't Stop Arguing” and I thought this would be a perfectly juicy topic of discussion for this week's fun segment! Your assignment is to convincingly argue your case in 20 seconds or less. Time to bring the heat! Are you Team Bare or Team Hair: Do you shave your body hair for triathlon or go au naturel? Which is harder: Training for an Ironman or training for a marathon PR? Flying dismount or unclipping, foot down? White Tri Suits? Yay or Nay? Sprint or jog into the finisher chute? Post every workout on social media, or no? Which is more impressive? Ironman World Champion or Olympic Champion? Well there you have it. We laid our opinions on the line and now it's your turn! We want to hear from you: are you team bare or team hair? Is training for a marathon PR harder than training for an Ironman? And what about white tri suits? Give us your opinions and we'll see who truly won the Triathlon Hot Takes Debate!   Closing:   Thanks again for listening this week. Please be sure to follow us @303Triathlon and @grit2greatnessendurance and of course go to iTunes and give us a rating and a comment. We'd really appreciate it! Stay tuned, train informed and enjoy the endurance journey!

Send us a textIn the last couple of years, we have started checking off some bucket list cruises. Given that they are bucket list destinations, vessels, or both it is of little surprise that several of those bucket list check offs made it on to this list. And as we have a number of bucket list cruises in front of us, i suspect this list will evolve over time. Like later this year, our next cruise is a bucket list trip to the Panama Canal on Holland America Lines flagship, Rotterdam, and if what I have researched turns out to be the case I suspect it will crack our top ten. This is an absolutely subjective list, not just that it is our opinion only, but offered from the perspective of non-professional reviewers. We don't have a YouTube channel, so we don't go over ships anywhere near as comprehensively as many of those content creators. We just thought it would be fun to do. Exactly half of the top ten were before The Joy of Cruising Podcast was created, and the other half have been since the podcast, and thus we have done a reflections podcast for each of the five on the list that we have done since the podcast started two and-a-half years ago.
