The featured article for Friday, 12 July 2024 is Hypericum sechmenii.Hypericum sechmenii, or Seçmen's St John's wort, is a rare species of flowering plant of the St John's wort family (Hypericaceae) that is found in the Eskişehir Province of central Turkey. It was first described in 2009 by Turkish botanists Atila Ocak and Onur Koyuncu, who named the species in honor of Özcan Seçmen, a fellow botanist. They assigned the species to the genus Hypericum, and Norman Robson later placed H. sechmenii into the section Adenosepalum.Hypericum sechmenii is a perennial herb that usually grows in clusters of stems 3–6 centimeters (1–2 inches) tall and blooms in June and July. The stems of the plant are smooth and lack hairs, while the leaves are leathery and do not have leafstalks. Its flowers are arranged in clusters that form a flat-topped shape known as a corymb, and each flower possesses five bright yellow petals. There are several species that are similar in appearance to H. sechmenii, with only minor physical differences that set them apart. The most closely related of these are Hypericum huber-morathii, Hypericum minutum, and Hypericum thymopsis.Found among limestone rocks, Hypericum sechmenii has an estimated distribution of less than 10 square kilometers (4 square miles), with fewer than 250 surviving plants. Despite containing druse crystals and toxic chemicals that are thought to deter herbivory, the species is threatened by overgrazing from livestock, as well as by other factors like climate change and habitat loss. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:30 UTC on Friday, 12 July 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Hypericum sechmenii on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Kendra.

Do you want to learn more about mega potencies and the remarkable results they provide? This episode will feature a conversation with Jill on her remarkable and significant body of work, the mega potencies, which homeopaths and their patients may all use to their advantage going forward. Jill Turland studied homeopathy in Sydney under Alan Jones. In practice since 1979, she is one of Australia's most experienced practitioners. In 1984, she initiated the illustrious academic journal, ‘Similia', which she edited for four years. Research into common trauma remedies started in 1991 when she began to refine her understanding of the psychology of injuries and the corresponding benefits of injury remedies in resolving our major epidemic of chronic diseases. Jill has been associated for many years with osteopaths and chiropractors and has been working since 1990 with Bryan Barrass, an osteopathic chiropractor with a great interest in homeopathy. Together, they have researched the homeopathic remedies applicable to muscular and skeletal patterns and the emotional origins of these patterns. This is the main thrust of the clinical, qualitative research - the use of very high-potency homeopathic remedies for the resolution of guilt, grief, and fears and their subsequent physical illnesses. Combining psychoneuroimmunology and quantum mechanics with chiropractic and osteopathic wisdom, Jill has been able to expand her understanding of how homeopathic remedies work, placing homeopathy on a sound scientific footing. Through this knowledge, many complex chronic physical problems are being resolved, and the understanding of the mental aspects of common homeopathic remedies is being expanded beyond previous boundaries - to date, Aconite, Arnica, China, Conium, Gelsemium, Hydrastis, Hypericum, Ignatia, Ledum, Natrum muriaticum, Ruta graveolens, Staphisagria, and Symphytum. These remedies and the story of their amazing new uses are written up in detail in ‘Getting Back On Track Using Megapotency Homeopathy.". Jill and Bryan have now retired and enjoy living in a small country town in NSW. Check out these episode highlights: 04:53 - How Jill first discovered homeopathy 20:31 - What are mega potencies 27:54 - Homeopathy has the ability to affect muscle and skeletal alterations 32:49 - What inspires Jill to begin learning about mega potencies 36:44 - Head cold symptoms picture and the pendulum 39:17 - Jill's amazing experience using radionics developed by David Tansley 4252 - Why homeopaths have a hard time with skeptics 44:39 - How mega potencies can make structural changes 53:07 - How mega potencies work in chronic vs acute situations 01:07:01 - How to know when to stop a remedy Connect with Jill Website: https://www.homeopathy-thetruehealing.com/ Support the Homeopathy Hangout Podcast by making a $5 once-off donation at www.buymeacoffee.com/hangout Join my Homeopathy Hangout Podcast Facebook community here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/HelloHomies Here is the link to my free 30-minute Homeopathy@Home online course: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqBUpxO4pZQ&t=438s Upon completion of the course - and if you live in Australia - you can join my Facebook group for free acute advice (you'll need to answer a couple of questions about the course upon request to join): www.facebook.com/groups/eughom
The world is changing rapidly. Between Climate change, ecosystems collapse, and the broken political, economic, and social systems, our nervous systems are put under extreme pressure. Yet, your nervous system holds the key to your health and to being able to engage fully in your life. Herbal medicine and simple rituals aid enormously in moving through these times of evolutionary transformation with more emotional ease, greater mental clarity, and physical and spiritual peace. Nourishing herbs like oatstraw (Avena sativa) and nettles (Urtica spp.) help us find our strength. Nervines can help with pain relief, deep sleep, and clear skin. St. John the Baptist is one of favorite saints. Not only does he have an interesting story biblically, but he also has so much lore surrounding him. He is revered in folklore and folk practices, while also being considered one of the main players in the story of Christ's life, death and resurrection. He is closely tied to herbalism, he has conspiracy theories and secret societies that revere him. He is a unique saint, but there's also been a lot done to mask his power - which I hope to uncover in this two part series on St. John the Baptist. Today's featured herbs are excellent in sun tea. Simply spoon them into a jar, pour in water, cover it up, and place it in the sun for several hours. Sun tea makes a light herbal infusion and is best for herbs that can be well extracted in a short hot infusion. The calyx of Hibiscus sabdariffa is distinct from those of other species in the genus. It's fleshy, red, and sour. These characteristics are signals to us. The red means antioxidant/anti-inflammatory and blood-vessel-stabilizing actions; the sour means draining to excess fluid, and cooling to excess heat. The leaf & flower of hibiscus (from various species including the rose of Sharon, H. syriacus and rose mallow, H. rosa-sinensis) can also be taken as an herb. They are moistening in nature, like other members of the mallow family.Solstice is the right time to harvest st john's wort, Hypericum perforatum. That's when this herb's medicinal constituents are at their peak of production. More complex than “an herbal SSRI”, the effects of st john's wort to help relieve depression are taking place all over the body. It supports nerve function, clears digestive inflammation, improves liver processing, and yes, it does increase serotonin activity – both in the gut-brain and the head-brain. It's worth a try for depression, but remember that it should not be taken concurrently with pharmaceuticals, especially psychiatric medications. These quick plant profiles were done off-the-cuff & on-the-spot. In this episode we speak with Deatra and Adam about rediscovering the lost herbal traditions of Eastern European Jews. We talk about the kinds of folk healers, from the ba'alei shem and feldshers to the opshprekherin folk magicians and midwives. We talk about how this knowledge came to be lost, how Deatra found the key to the herbal practices in an old book, and we talk about some of the actual plants that these healers used, from Aristolochia clematatis to Hypericum perforatum. A wonderful conversation of history and ethnobotany. You can find the book at most places you'd buy a book, and Adam and Deatra on Instagram and at their website, https://www.ashkenaziherbalism.net/. Journey back in time to a long forgotten world, where nature speaks through plants, and song pours forth from cascading waterfalls as breathtakingly as a church choir sings Ave Maria. A place where the rhythm of a feathered rattle is believed to bring you closer to your creator. A world where mysticism and innate spirituality conflict with Christianity. Avá-Tapé, raised in the traditions of the Guarani Indians of South America, then Mission educated by the Jesuits, sees the truth and beauty in both worlds, but he can only live in one. Neither the Jesuits, nor his father, Avá-Nembiará, the tribe's shaman, will accept less than absolute allegiance, which forces Avá-Tapé to choose between them. Shamanism, religious bigotry, history, imperialism, coming of age, and a touching love story drive this incisive, thought-provoking narrative of the demise and ultimate triumph of an indigenous people and their traditions. Facing both a physical and a spiritual quest, Avá-Tapé, inspired by his devotion to his people and his love for the beautiful Kuná-Mainó, emerges as the most powerful shaman of all, leading his tribe to the mythical https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09L5DHPVL/ref=tmm_aud_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1636180009&sr=1-4 (LAND WITHOUT EVIL). With language that captures both the essence and spirit of the Guarani culture, Pallamary takes his readers into a world long forgotten, but well worth exploring, into a spirituality that transcends religious dogma and inspires understanding and hope. Both realistic to its setting and timeless in its portrayal of the human condition, LAND WITHOUT EVIL is a triumphant celebration of the human spirit. “Bravo….More!” Ray Bradbury, author of Fahrenheit 451 “Elements of Carlos Castaneda, Peter Mathiesson, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez jostle each other, yet…Pallamary weaves an extraordinarily original web.” –San Diego Union Tribune “Land Without Evil is a great read for anyone looking for insight and inspiration on their own spiritual journey…” — Harold Bloomfield, author of Hypericum and Depression “A triumphant blending of creative imagination and deep scholarly research, both driven by Pallamary's philosophical idealism, Land Without Evil proves that a suspenseful novel can sizzle with conflict–with no villains on either side, only good souls who differ.” — Charles Champlin, critic, and author of Back There Where the Past Was “Pallamary plunges into the heart with a moving tale about people caught between worlds–the past, the future, and the possible…” — David Brin, author of The Postman “Read, trust, expand, and know that once we, too, were all there…EMPOWERED!” —Victor Villasenor, author of Rain of Gold A clash of faith spurs much conflict between peoples. Land Without Evil is a historical novel of religion, exploring the character of Ava-Tapé, raised by Guarani Indians, educated by Jesuits, and sees the aspects of both worlds in this rough time in South American History. Seeking a better world for his people when surrounded by bigotry, “Land Without Evil” is a riveting read, a choice read from Matthew J. Pallamary, highly recommended. —The Midwest Book Review – Small Press Bookwatch Magazine

Our First Episode of 2021Welcome to this space and time.In the ways of landback we remember we are not separate and in ownership to the Earth. Beneath our four legged paws- a memory encoded in our genetic timeline. What Is the relationship that does not consist of ownership or outcomes? Jacqui Wilkins of @amongthewildflowers shares the lineage and origin story of their ancestral medicine practice. We speak of Hypericum as protection Medicine for this time and the wisdom that came through as the episode was transmuted in the summer months. When we are in relationship to the other than human world, not to use plants as constituents, not to break them down as individual parts. All plants embody a sentience. The willingness to trust the process as practice without fixed goals- gives space to the whole. With this knowing, we build and support networks of care- and returning back to our medicine dreams- and relationship to the sacred. This episode Is near and dear to my heart, and I am deeply grateful to offer It out. Please don't forget to share this podcast with loved ones, furry friends, and plant kin alike. Full show notes @ https://thesternmethod.com/carol-lourie Dr. Carol Lourie is a Naturopath, Licensed Acupuncturist, Homeopath and Functional Medicine Expert who has been working in the field of integrative and natural health care for over 30 years. Carol takes a whole-person approach to healing using integrative tools that leverage the innate healing abilities of body, mind, and spirit. ***Resources Mentioned*** Everybody's Guide to Homeopathic Medicines by Dana Ullman The Path of Breast Cancer Integrative Therapeutics Laxative Formula Smooth Move Tea Oxypowder by Global Healing Center Total Gut Protocol from Microbiome Labs MegaMucosa Natura Health Products – Digest Mend Quercetin Ascorbate, Designs for Health D-Ribose, Designs for Health *** In This Episode: I’ve been trying to get Dr. Carol Lourie on the show for a while now but for whatever reason, the stars didn’t align. Well I can tell you, it was worth the wait! I brought Carol on to talk about homeopathy and cancer but we ended up talking about so much other good stuff that’s sure to help you on your own healing journey. We talk about various fasting protocols to help improve the effectiveness of chemo AND protect your healthy cells AND reduce nausea! We look at homeopathic remedies to reduce the side effects of chemo and radiation, and Carol shares some of the supplement brands she uses in her clinical practice. Plus you’ll get some great recipes for healing smoothies and Bieler’s broth. It’s action-packed! Is there a reason you’ve honed in on cancer? Carol has lost family members to cancer She looked after a friend going through cancer treatment. Over18 months every appointment Saw first hand what her friend went through and where she could help with her naturopathic skills Began studying the enormous complex topic of cancer Studied with Donnie Yance of the Mederi Foundation Specialized in breast cancer What conferences were you at recently? Society of Integrative Oncology – Carol presented on intermittent fasting in clinic practice Attended Advanced Applications in Medical Practice put on by Dr Paul Anderson Dr Weber from Germany talked about using laser therapy to treat cancer Uses very thin needles in the skin to apply the laser similar to acupuncture You are a naturopathic doctor who focuses on cancer but you also have a homeopathy specialty… Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician, discovered homeopathy in late 1800’s. Started experimenting with sulfur, phosphorus etc which he diluted until just the energy of the compound remained This process makes homeopathy very safe. It won’t interfere with other treatments Oncologists can be resistant to anything they perceive may interfere with chemotherapy Carol aims for a positive relationship with her patients’ conventional oncologists Advises her patients to follow this protocol around chemo infusions: 2 days before infusion stop supplements and start intermittent fasting One day after infusion start intermittent fasting 2 days after, no supplements – just bone broth and Bieler’s broth If you don’t get along with your oncologist, find a new one What is Bieler’s broth? In the 70’s Carol’s friend underwent a huge amount of radiation therapy for cancer before being told nothing more could be done for her Found a chiropractor in New York who used Iridology detoxifying diet Introduced Carol to blended salads and Bieler’s broth Bieler’s broth recipe: Green beans, zucchini, white cabbage, parsley celery, leaks, onions Cook up and blend. No salt or pepper Basic environment in the body as opposed to acidic. Cancer and disease love acidic environment Less inflammation Blended salad recipe: Equal amounts of tomato, red pepper, celery, cucumber and lettuce Blend with extra virgin olive oil and organic lemon juice Lots of phytonutrients. Easy to digest Other therapies at the clinic included: 10 day water fasting Epsom salt enemas (tbsp. Epsom salt, dissolved in boiling water and add to enema bag) Philosophy was that Epsom salts pull toxins from the lymph Clinic philosophy was to take the patient back to the ‘cellular time’ before they contracted the disease Refeed properly after a water fast, otherwise benefits are lost Purpose is to reduce sugar component in body What is the Warburg effect? Warburg was a scientist in Germany in 1924 He discovered that cancer most often choses sugar for energy Carol works with her patients to reduce their glycemic index and starve their cancer cells of glucose Intermittent fasting is very important when preparing for chemotherapy Helps chemo become more effective. When cancer cells are starved they see the chemo and the accompanying steroids as sugar and absorb more of these. This helps protect healthy cells What is your definition of intermittent fasting? Lots of different terms: Caloric restriction – restrict your calories by 40-50% Dr. Mosley’s 5:2 diet – eating for 5 days, fasting for 2 Dr. Valter Longo recommends reducing calories and reducing what you eat Carol recommends 600-800 calories per day, two days before chemo Bone broth, veggie juice and Bieler’s broth When you have chemo you want empty intestines. Uses laxative product such as Integrative Therapeutics Laxative Formula or Smooth Move Tea Goal is almost diarrhea. Don’t want to auto intoxicate – if you have fecal material in your body and you go for chemo the toxins remain in your body longer than necessary Ryan mentions the Fasting Mimicking Diet Ryan recommends Oxypowder by Global Healing Center Do you practice classical or clinical homeopathy or something else? Many different approaches. Carol takes the approach most relevant to the person Looks at the whole person and how that person’s ‘dis-ease’ is affecting them. Their unique symptoms No one thing is going to help cancer. It is a very serious metabolic disease. Needs a lot of different protocols put together to address metabolic imbalance e.g. nutrition, mindset, targeted supplementation, iv therapy, lifestyle etc How do you use homeopathy to mitigate radiation side effects Homeopathic Carcinosin is a breast cancer remedy Can buy from homeopathic pharmacy or practitioner Carol does remote consultations. Practitioner list on stermmethod.com Acute homeopathy good for mitigating the symptoms of conventional treatment It’s the symptoms that are important in homeopathy, not the illness To support patients going through radiation: Avoid anti-oxidants as radiation created oxidative stress Drink miso soup – 2 cups before 2 cups after Fast before Empty your intestines prior Afterwards drink green smoothie or juice Acupuncture Take prebiotics and probiotics. Carol recommends Total Gut Protocol from Microbiome Labs This protocol includes MegaMucosa prebiotic powder Protect your gut when having chemotherapy too One of the best things you can do to keep your counts up Carol’s patients have better blood work Remedy for radiation burns is Cantharis – 60 or 30c Only take when symptoms are present. Listen to your body and follow the symptoms. If symptoms change may need Rhus tox (better with heat) or Apis mellifica (better with ice cold), Belladonna (skin throbbing – whole being is agitated) Available from Whole Foods Dana Olman’s book on acute homeopathic remedies Banerji Protocol can be used for protection against conventional treatment but it’s very individual so you need to see a practitioner Detox combination remedies available from BioResource but Carol doesn’t use combinations in her practice Can homeopathy reduce side effects of chemotherapy? Yes. Must go into chemotherapy well prepared by doing all that is recommended above Mint or ginger tea to decrease nausea Ipecac – for nausea Phosphorus – vomiting on food ingestion Bryonia – nauseous if move Pulsatilla – need fresh air, crying a lot Neuropathy – Alpha-lipoic acid, vitamin B6, IV vitamin C to support through radiation Hypericum – tea and homeopathic tincture for nerve pain Borax - mouth sores, healthier intestines, better response to chemo Carol recommends Natura Health Products – Digest Mend (powder) Healing smoothie recipe 1-2 scoops of protein powder. Whey or pea isolate protein powder, keto or collagen powder – depending on your diet Whey is very anti-inflammatory with lots of immunoglobulins. Recommends Natura, Designs for Health and Xymogen Pea isolate – Xymogen, Metagenics, Designs for Health – monk fruit preferred over stevia Apex and Biotics also good brands Water or organic coconut water or unsweetened nut milk 2 tsp Quercetin Ascorbate, Designs for Health 2 tsp D-Ribose, Designs for Health (Xymogen and Biotics also) ½ avocado 1tspn dark flaxseed 1 tbsp chia seeds ½ cup berries Ice (optional) If you need to gain weight, add egg yolk, nut butter, molasses or tahini Could also add green powder or leaves (not spinach) Put everything into a blender and blend Any last thoughts? Intense spiritual / emotional component to this disease – really important to address this how ever you chose Without addressing this it’s hard to fully recover Follow Dr. Carol Lourie Online programme called The Path of Breast Cancer support@thepathofbreastcancer.com If you have a question or comment about this episode let us know below!!

IN THIS EPISODE: Natural remedies are not as complicated as you think and on this episode - I'm calling it a “MeSpeak” episode because it's just me - I'm going to be sharing some homeopathic remedies with you for shock and injury. I usually like to address issues individually but shock and injury are so frequently dealt with together I thought that it was appropriate and would be more helpful to address them at the same time. If you apply the natural remedies I give you in this episode in cases where someone has experienced a significant shock or an injury, you'll be doing them a favor and learning how powerful homeopathic remedies can be for these situations. I want you to be empowered to take charge of your health and to be a help to others when situations like this arise. If you are, everyone will benefit. When you're dealing with a situation that involves shock, there are three main homeopathic remedies that I would recommend. They are aconite, opium, and gelsemium. All three are very helpful in the treatment of a wide variety of shock conditions and in this episode I'm walking you through each of them so that you can be equipped to deal with emergency situations involving shock. But you also need to understand how situations involving shock are often related to the pain or trauma of an injury. That's why I'm also including in this episode some of the natural ways you can address injury and the pain that often comes with it. Toward that end, you'll hear about Arnica, Hypericum, and Nat-Sulph. With each of the remedies I describe on this episode I give you situations and stories where I have seen each work - and I describe the kinds of situations where each one of these natural approaches can be used. You will end the episode with a greater knowledge of how you can bring about significant healing in yourself and others by using entirely natural means. I hope you enjoy and apply what you learn. Through stories, research, and data, it builds the case for why it is crucial to encourage today’s youth to be makers. this episode Q&A includes: • vaginal steams- why are you doing it? • St. John's wort and St. Joan's wort are the same thing- Hypericum perforatum • hypericum used to treat pain that arises from the nerves • parasitic worms- drugs are usually more effective and less damaging than potent herbs.. • the sexual relationship with yourself is what counts most.. • plants do not contain estrogen, but do contain phytosterols which are precursors to hormones.. • seeds, roots and most leaves contain phytosterols.. • late 40's trying to conceive? vitex, red clover infusion, up the amount of animal fats in diet and petition the soul of unborn child.. • when we are sick it gives our immune system a chance to work.. • mental illness and coping strategies.. • essential oils used in diffuser- most dangerous because they go into lungs and directly into blood..

In this single-blind study, the effects of acute oral administration of high-dose Hypericum perforatum extract WS 5570 on the cortisol ( COR), adrenocorticotropic hormone ( ACTH), growth hormone (GH), and prolactin (PRL) secretions were examined in 12 healthy male volunteers. In a randomized order, the subjects received placebo or WS 5570 at several dosages (600, 900, and 1,200 mg) at 08.00 h on 4 different days. After insertion of an intravenous catheter, blood samples were drawn 1 h prior to administration of placebo or WS 5570 ( 600, 900, or 1,200 mg), at the time of administration, and during 5 h thereafter at intervals of 30 min. The serum concentrations of COR, GH, and PRL as well as the plasma levels of ACTH were determined in each blood sample by means of double antibody radioimmunoassay, fluoroimmunoassay, and chemiluminescence immunometric assay methods. The area under the curve value was used as parameter for COR, ACTH, GH, and PRL responses. Repeated-measures Anova revealed a significant stimulatory effect of WS 5570 on the ACTH secretion, whereas COR and PRL secretions were not significantly influenced. Moreover, there was a stimulatory peak of GH release 240 min after challenge with WS 5570 in some but not all volunteers, without reaching statistical significance in comparison with placebo. Mean arterial blood pressure and heart rate remained unchanged after administration of WS 5570. Apparently, WS 5570 at the dosages given in this study inconsistently causes endocrinological effects in healthy subjects by influencing central neurotransmitters. Copyright (C) 2004 S.
