Harry Nuriev talks about his collaboration with Jimmy Choo for Salone del MobileJimmy Choo and Crosby Studios have joined forces to transform its Sant'Andrea boutique into an immersive space where design, fashion, and memory converge. The result is a powerful installation imagined by Harry Nuriev, the architect and creative director, known for his bold use of materiality and his ability to blur the lines between art and function. Nuriev's concept is rooted in the archive of Jimmy Choo, treating each shoe as both a brushstroke and a pixel in a larger visual tapestry. Glass becomes more than just a material—it acts as a threshold between the viewer and the object, evoking the layered tension of window displays and museum vitrines. What unfolds is not only a celebration of almost 30 years of Jimmy Choo's iconic designs, but also a reflection on time itself—its intimacy, its distance, and its power to shape emotion. In this conversation, we dive into Nuriev's process, his obsession with archives, and the subtle tension between feeling and function in his work.

In the mid-aughts, America became obsessed with high fashion for some reason. Maybe it was Project Runway's silver-haired imp Tim Gunn whispering in our ears to “make it work.” Maybe we were all bewitched by the well-dressed ladies of Sex and the City. But Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo were suddenly household names. Enter Meryl Streep as the boss from Hell: Miranda Priestly, the editor-in-chief of Runway magazine. She's bringing the fire and brimstone of haute couture to torture her new assistant, played by a fresh-faced Anne Hathaway, in this 2006 comedy written by Aline Brosh McKenna from the novel by Lauren Weisberger. The film was a massive hit, won multiple awards, and scored Oscar noms for Streep and costume designer Patricia Field, who reportedly spent over $1 million to clothe the cast. But does this Runway project make it work? Or does it seem as gauche and dated as last season's trends? They say the devil is in the details, and this time, The Devil Wears Prada.   Gird your loins, everyone!   For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. Lina Khan's Federal Trade Commission is suing to block Tapestry's $8.5 billion acquisition of Capri Holdings, saying the deal would harm consumers by reducing competition and raising prices in the affordable luxury handbag sector.Monday's lawsuit challenges the proposed deal that would have Tapestry controlling Coach, Kate Spade, Stuart Weitzman, Michael Kors, Versace and Jimmy Choo.According to the FTC, the acquisition could have a negative impact on the millions of American shoppers who now benefit from the head-to-head rivalry between Tapestry and Capri, as well as on the roughly 33,000 workers employed by both companies worldwide.Patrick's Books:Statistics For The Trading Floor:  https://amzn.to/3eerLA0Derivatives For The Trading Floor:  https://amzn.to/3cjsyPFCorporate Finance:  https://amzn.to/3fn3rvCPatreon Page: https://www.patreon.com/PatrickBoyleOnFinanceBuy Me a Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/patrickboyleVisit our website: www.onfinance.orgFollow Patrick on Twitter Here: https://twitter.com/PatrickEBoylePatrick Boyle on YouTube Support the Show.

From his studio in Dania Beach, Florida, Rob Stern creates his signature Windstar sculptures, dedicated to his father, a consummate stargazer fascinated by cosmic phenomena. Stern was also inspired by his surname, which means star in German. The artist often names his stars to reveal their celestial spheres. Copernica is derived from Copernicus, visible in the evening sky over Miami Beach. Polaris, known as the North Star, is the brightest in the constellation of Ursa Minor. Antares is the 15th brightest star in the night sky and is part of the constellation Scorpius. Other Windstar titles conjure colors and experiences, such as Red Dawn, which takes its name from a glowing red center or Modra, the Czech word for blue. Stern's Windstars are a testament to his deep understanding of glass and belief that the material takes him where it wants to go during the making process. Another iconic body of work, Stern's Stilettos, was inspired by his wife's vast collection of designer shoes that includes Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo, and Alexander McQueen. However, these glass slippers are even more extreme with wild bejeweled designs that could make even Lady Gaga swoon.  Stern states: “My creative endeavors and sculptures are mere stepping stones towards my search for understanding life. Harmonic instances between what I sense and do are the signals that guide me through my processes and prompt daily decisions. My works act as a communicative device which seeks to connect my thoughts and my actions to the collective human consciousness. A path seeking insight and enlightenment carries me forwards and always seems to bring me back to the glass.” His mother an art teacher and father a filmmaker, Stern attended Northside High School for Performing Arts in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was part of an elite group that performed internationally. He later pursued visual arts, receiving a BFA from San Francisco State University (1989) and an MFA from the University of Miami (2003). Other glass training includes a five-year apprenticeship with John Lewis Glass, Oakland, California, where he trained to be a metal fabricator and expert glass caster/cold-worker. Stern went on to assist Czech master Petr Novotny and worked in the Czech glass factories as a designer/maker for two years. The artist also assisted or collaborated with many masters such as Dale Chihuly, William Morris, Martin Blank, Richard Royal, Richard Jolley, Dante Marioni, Therman Statom, Stanislav Libensky, Rene Roubicek, and Vladimir Klien, among many others. Lecturing at the University of Miami for 10 years, Stern also acted as interim professor at University of Texas Arlington in 2009. He has frequented the premier glass institutions, most notably Pilchuck Glass School, Stanwood, Washington, for a 30-year consecutive run where he has taught, been a gaffer, TA, AA, and worked with the most notable international artists. Dedicated to education, the artist has also taught at the Corning Museum of Glass, New York; the Penland School of Craft, North Carolina; The Glass Furnace, Istanbul, Turkey; Bildwerk Frauenau, Germany; and Ways of Glass, Czech Republic. Stern designed and created many centerpiece collections for various institutions including Pilchuck in 2011, and he received the Amazon award for his Pilchuck auction piece in 2021. This year he has a prominent piece in Pilchuck's October Auction. Currently involved in long-term residencies at YZ Center for the Arts, China, and Bezaiten Arts Center in Lake Worth, Florida, Stern will serve as the future director of glass at The Dania Art Park, now in development. Meanwhile he and his team design and create original sculpture, architectural commissions, and unique lighting that has been commissioned, exhibited, and collected internationally. Recently, the artist participated in Habatat Gallery's Glass 51 exhibition, and several of his works were acquired by Imagine Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida. Eighty of his pieces have become part of the permanent collection of the Weiner Museum of Decorative Arts (WMODA), Dania Beach, Florida. Says Stern: “My aesthetic resides at the crossroads where humans and nature intersect. Between organic and angular, a space connects the temporary man-made to the pre-existing and eternal cosmos. Here, we begin to measure our perspective and contemplate the perception of our place in the world as it is one that is always changing with the evolution of space, light, and time. I venture to capture moments with materials that speak to a fleeting sensibility of the permanence or importance of this balancing act. Color and form dictate emotion, and humanity is transcended as we reflect in the inherent rhythm and fractal patterning in this natural world. My constant observation of details persuades my attention to nuances in an attempt to mimic the complexity of its simplicity.”  Stern's work will be exhibited at Kittrell Riffkind in Dallas, Texas, in April 2024.

While economic headwinds are impacting the beauty industry these days, one area that's still going strong is fragrance. Take InterParfums, for example. It's the fragrance company that holds the licenses for over 20 fashion and luxury goods labels including Montblanc and Jimmy Choo. The first quarter of this year was its best in its 40-year history as it reported 24% sales growth and surpassed $1 billion in sales. On this week's podcast, InterParfums CEO and co-founder Jean Madar shared what's driving that growth. He talked about the surge in sales that the category has been seeing globally since the pandemic began, and why fragrance is a means for a luxury brand to bring in new customers. And at a time when a new celebrity beauty brand is hitting the market virtually every week, he made it clear that InterParfums' licensing business is still all about fashion partners. Madar gave the details on why the company has no interest in getting in on the fickle celebrity fragrance licensing business.

After acting as the “Hostess with the Mostest” on the red carpet at a recent fashion event, Holly's feet – while gorgeous in her designer shoes – ended up killing her from standing up all night in the wrong shoes.     THIS IS A FASHION CRIME:   Wearing shoes that are too high, no matter how beautiful they are - or how perfectly they accentuate your outfit - hamburger meat for feet is no bueno. (Can the marketing people please trademark that?)    Recovering from her foot pain, in this episode, your favorite personal stylist Holly Katz outlines the shoes you need to have in your wardrobe.     This is important is because people sometimes are not sure what the current trends are or how much money they should be spending on shoes.  Or, how to branch out of their comfort zone when it comes to trying on something different or new.     People often tend to be very price-driven when it comes to shoes, and obviously that makes sense. They have a set amount in their mind, which can be a little bit limiting if you're looking around for something interesting and new.     With that being said, these are the must-have styles for shoes.  (As always, please be sure to check Holly's Pinterest Board for all of these shoe recommendations and more!)    FLATS  Designer Slides  Ballet  Mules  Loafers  Mary Janes  Oxfords  Flat Slingbacks    HOW TO STYLE FLATS:  You can wear flats with just about *anything, but please, please wear no-show socks of some sort! Wear your flats with a mini dress, cropped flair pants, or anytime you are busy working on your feet all day with your favorite slacks or dressy shorts.     *Pro Tip:   If you are grown up woman going to a formal event, you must wear heels. No flats allowed (unless you've just had old-lady bunion surgery – ouch!).     BRANDS WE LOVE:  Birdies, Valentino Rock Studs, Hermès, Jeffrey Campbell, Sam Edelman, Sarah Flint, Ally Shoes and Cecelia NYC shoes.     HEELS:  Wedge heels  Block heels  Platform heels    HOW TO STYLE HEELS:  Wear new heels around the house to break them in, start with lower heels if you have not worn high heels in a while, and try a block heel or wedge heel for comfort.     High heels look best with dresses and skirts of all lengths, of course, but also try them with leather pants, dressy shorts or jeans.    Pro Tip:  Platform heels can give the illusion of a high heel without the pain of a stiletto!    BRANDS WE LOVE:  Gianvito Rossi, Roger Vivier, Steve Madden, Guiseppe Zanotti     BOOTS:  Tall boots  Booties  Cowboy boots  Winter boots  Not Rainboots    HOW TO STYLE BOOTS:  Holly LOVES a good boot! Boots will make your legs look longer and leaner. She wears them with dresses, maxi skirts, pants, really, everything.     Look for short booties that come just to the ankle bone. You can also try combat-STYLE boots, with just a touch of the combat sass. As well as real cowboy boots, or cowboy-style boots, as they are always, always in style.    You do not really want to wear suede or heavy boots in the summer – if you run hot, you know what we mean.     *Pro Tip:  Don't even think of wearing tall galoshes or rain boots unless you live in Seattle and are walking in the rain. PUDDLES of rain. Stomping around a grocery store in Atlanta in your tall rain boots; just know they are for function, or walking around in a torrential rain storm in NYC. Not when you're going to your garage and it's a threat of rain.   BRANDS WE LOVE:  Paris Texas, Prada, Roger Vivier, Boot Barn, Gianvito Rossi, Isabel Marant,       SANDALS:  You can wear flat sandals, wedge sandals, low-heel sandals and high-heel sandals.    You are NOT allowed to wear Tevas, Chacos, Crocs, sports slides or *flip flops. NON-NEGOSH. Also, no socks with sandals. #DUH. Don't let her find out.   The only pass you will get from Holly are Birkenstocks, because they are always evolving and somehow manage to stay on-trend. This is the only shoe in the “hippy footwear” family allowed.    *Pro Tip:   Rubber flip flops are for the beach. Period. Leather flip flops, embellished flip flops, etc., are  acceptable.     FitFlops are not allowed. Never. Ever. They are not cute, and they don't make you fit. Stop falling for the false advertising.    BRANDS WE LOVE: Tory Burch, Valentino, Gucci, Alexandre Birman, Jimmy Choo , Guiseppe Zanotti     FASHION SNEAKERS:  If you are a friend of the podcast, you know the rules already: NO workout sneakers unless you are working out. END OF STORY.    Fashion sneakers are fun, on-trend, comfortable and don't smell like a gym locker room. See the difference? Go back and listen to Episode 128 to get the full lecture once and for all. Then, you can ENJOY the sneaker trend!!     BRANDS WE LOVE:  Superga, Nike, Golden Goose, New Balance, Converse, Adidas, Michael Kors      FINAL THOUGHTS: 1.) Please wear socks with your shoes when you can. No-shows are best, but Tube socks are also back (yikes)- so don't be shocked when your teenagers are rocking those.   2.) How many shoes are too many? You can never have too many.   Just kidding! If you have over 100 pair, that is probably too much. You should have as many as you can realistically wear. For real. A cohesive shoe wardrobe is anywhere between 25-45 pair.    3.) Keep your shoes updated and looking nice. Go find your neighborhood shoe repair person. Old, worn-out shoes, no matter what the brand or price point, look like old, worn-out shitty shoes.     4.) If your feet hurt, or you have a hard time finding shoes to fit your feet or if you have major feet issues, find a company who caters to customers that are hard to fit like our friends at  Ally Shoes or Pedro Garcia.    5.) Store your shoes properly and where you can always see them: Not in the original box, not under your long dresses in your closet, not in plastic boxes. Find a way to display them in your closet area so you will be tempted to rotate the shoes and styles you have invested in.    Carry on! Life is too short! Eat the cake! Buy the shoes! Christian Larson: Directing an Intimate Rhythm

It comes as no surprise that Christian Larson, the creative half of the founding duo behind the imaginative Swedish undergarment brand CDLP, cut his creative teeth with early careers in visual world building: first editing, then directing.Growing up outside Stockholm, Christian studied drumming from an early age, and his sense of rhythm is perhaps the strongest visible through line in a career that has spanned multiple industries. You can see it in his award winning editing on projects like the Grammy and Emmy-nominated concert film 'ON THE RUN' featuring Beyoncé & Jay-Z, and projects for Lady Gaga, Daft Punk, Abba, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears and Dior. That same sense of rhythm won him the director chair on ad campaigns for Cartier, Jimmy Choo, Pepsi, Mercedes-Benz, and Nowness, as well as music videos for Sigur Rós, Kylie Minogue, Icona Pop, and Swedish House Mafia. When Christian's directorial career was keeping him frequently on the road, his best friend Andreas began traveling with him. One day they found themselves in a hotel room in Rio, chastising each other for their mutually terrible choices in underwear, and an idea was born. The quest began to develop a superior product to what was on the market, a product crafted from better materials and made in Europe, where they could have control over their manufacturing process. Once an unconsidered, boring, 'non-decision' purchase relegated to the sock drawer, CDLP won early support from men of all ages, who finally felt sexy in their improved undergarments.Over the last six years the brand has grown to include swim and loungewear, and a women's line launched a few months ago. True to his rhythm, Christian's video campaigns are masterfully shot and tightly edited… Not to mention the CDLP mixtape series, which is fantastic. We caught up with Christian to chat about curiosity as a driving imperative, why hotels make the most cinematic backdrops, and how an unexpected moment, like seeing 35 millimeter film for the first time, can alter your perspective and cement your commitment to a creative destiny.Slide on your best underwear, and enjoy this conversation with the brilliant Christian Larson.Presented by NUVO Magazine. Dr. Niccole Bruno joins Dr. Andy Roark to talk about an outstanding event she put on at the VMX conference, A Day in Veterinary Medicine, and her company Blend.Vet. Niccole discusses the "pipeline problem" in veterinary medicine, and the lack of progress we have made (compared to the aspirations of our schools and profession, at least). She talks about what representation and inclusion look like in our education process and also in our practices. Andy and Niccole talk about the intersection of DEI and hospital culture, and the opportunities for growth commonly found in veterinary clinics. Finally, Niccole lays out some clear action steps that practices can make to improve their culture and support equity and inclusion in our profession. She became interested in veterinary medicine as a child but lacked mentorship until she attended Tuskegee University for her undergraduate studies. Seeing representation and receiving support from her professors and classmates made the dream of pursuing veterinary medicine a reality. She attended Cornell University for veterinary school and along with her classmates became the founders of VOICE, a student organization to promote and celebrate diversity and inclusion. VOICE is now a national veterinary student organization and has since changed its name to Veterinary Students as One Inclusive Community for Empowerment. Dr Bruno graduated from Cornell University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. Dr Bruno has practiced in small animal medicine and surgery for over 16 years, both in NYC/Long Island and Houston, TX. She has served in hospital leadership roles for over eight years. Dr Bruno realized the value leadership has in creating a diverse and inclusive hospital culture. As Medical Director, she became intentional in recruitment and retention of diverse individuals while creating a space for them to thrive. She continues to pay it forward by dedicating much of her time to speaking and mentoring students from all stages of the pipeline to increase representation for Black, Indigenous and People Of Color (BIPOC) students into the profession. Following completion of the Purdue University Diversity and Inclusion certificate program in 2020, her awareness, continual exploration, and study into the diversity deficiencies of our profession, ignited her vision to create blendvet. Dr Bruno hopes that blendvet can be transformational, creating a space for collaborative learning for individuals and teams in diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB). Through blendvet, Dr. Bruno will be executing pipeline programs at veterinary conferences to help promote and advance veterinary medicine for underrepresented students. Dr. Bruno currently remains a member of the Cornell University Advisory Council, serves as an Advisory Board member for Pawsibillities, a mentorship platform and is a facilitator for MentorVet. In her spare time, she enjoys activities with her husband and two children, Cole and Addison. She loves traveling, her Peloton, football and binge-watching her favorite shows. She has a 15-year-old Shihpoo named Jimmy Choo and a Siamese mix cat named Sushi Roll.

As a teenager, Michael Kors filled his notebooks with dress designs and doodles of his own initials—casual sketches that would eventually fuel the launch of a global fashion brand. Michael grew up with a love of fashion; by the time he was 19, his designs were on display on 5th Avenue, and by 22, his collection was getting attention from the fashion editor of New York Magazine, a young upstart named Anna Wintour. In the early days, he designed thousand-dollar dresses in his bedroom and delivered them in his aunt's car. As the business grew, he launched a new line with an unproven partner that would eventually lead him to bankruptcy; then, after he recovered, he successfully branched out into eyewear, fragrances, and handbags, all branded with his now famous “MK” initials. Today, Michael still heads Creative at Michael Kors, and the brand has grown into a massive company that includes Jimmy Choo and Versace.
