Willie Hen is a San Francisco rapper who is highly respected for his lyricism and authenticity, even without a solo album. Growing up in the Fillmore, he started off as a member of a group called Do Or Die before becoming affiliated with San Quinn and Messy Marv and forming their collective The Network. After a song with producer Tone Capone caught the attention of hip-hop legend Scarface, they became a group along with Young Malice called The Product. One of Willie's verses ended up becoming The Source magazine's Hip-Hop Quotable of the month. Although he continues to put out mixtapes, features, and collaborations, he also transitioned to acting with a role in the film "The Last Black Man In San Francisco."--For promo opportunities on the podcast, e-mail: info@historyofthebay.com--History of the Bay Spotify Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3ZUM4rCv6xfNbvB4r8TVWU?si=9218659b5f4b43aaOnline Store: https://dregsone.myshopify.com Follow Dregs One:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1UNuCcJlRb8ImMc5haZHXF?si=poJT0BYUS-qCfpEzAX7mlAInstagram: https://instagram.com/dregs_oneTikTok: https://tiktok.com/@dregs_oneTwitter: https://twitter.com/dregs_oneFacebook: https://facebook.com/dregsone41500:00 Intro02:40 Fillmoe history12:42 Street life17:05 FIllmoe's rap legacy23:47 Early groups28:46 The Network w/ Messy Marv & San Quinn37:43 Done Deal Ent.40:36 The Izm50:07 The Product with Scarface1:04:13 Mac Dre1:10:17 The Last Black Man in San Francisco1:14:34 Solo album?

Join us on the TruVue Podcast for an honest review of "The Last Man In San Francisco." In this episode, we have a barbershop talk about the movie and share our thoughts on the film. Tune in for a conversation with the crew you won't want to miss! Jimmie Fails IV, a black man, is a third generation San Franciscan. Having been pushed out by circumstances like many others, Jimmie, who works a low paying job as a nurse in a seniors' care facility, returned to San Francisco three years ago and has been living in his best friend Montgomery Allen's house that he shares with his blind grandfather, Jimmie who sleeps on the floor in Mont's already cramped bedroom. Despite the house, Mont's situation is not much better than Jimmie's, Mont who works at a supermarket fish counter while he sketches and writes a play on the side. Other black people around him who are showing their anger in also being disenfranchised from San Francisco life are the soapbox preacher who Jimmie and Mont often watch as they wait for the bus, and a group of young black men who hang outside of Mont's house. All of Jimmie's family, whom he rarely sees, are also disenfranchised from that San Francisco life in one way or another: his estranged father lives in an SRO (Single Room Occupancy); his mother and her new husband long moved to Los Angeles; and his paternal Auntie Wanda has been pushed out to the suburbs. Jimmie has long wanted to reclaim what he sees as his place in San Francisco, which to him means the house he grew up in and which his same named paternal grandfather built in the post-war era in a style indicative to the area a century earlier. The problems are that his father lost the house long ago, the neighborhood has since been gentrified from the immigrant neighborhood it once was, increasing the value of the house to the several millions, and a white couple currently lives there, there being no indication that they are either planning on leaving or selling even if Jimmie could afford it. Regardless, Jimmie, with Mont by his side, has and continues to take steps to reclaim the house as his to his standards.—Huggo In this episode of the TruVue Podcast, we give an honest review of the movie "The Last Man In San Francisco." My conversation with Palestinian filmmaker, director, writer, and teacher Rolla Selbak was an exchange of sweet and saltwater tides. I cried. Then she cried. Then I cried. And she cried. It was oceanic in its soulfulness, honesty, clarity, and Love offering for humanity. I had been yearning for this conversation since we met at the Los Angeles reading of the Gaza Monologues in January of this year (2024). I can't wait for you to listen to, feel, and be sown by this kinship river. Bless you.Rolla Selbak is an award-winning filmmaker and Sundance alumna, with multiple works optioned for development at 20th Century Fox and Sony Pictures Entertainment. She imprints her fresh point of view as a Palestinian American with deep, maternal roots in Jerusalem. Her recent screenplay, CHOKE, was a 2022 Winner of The Black List, and was based on her award-winning short film of the same name, both telling the story of a Syrian refugee who dreams of becoming an MMA champion.Other notable works include co-producing the Sundance 2017 short film AMERICAN PARADISE, which was later adapted into the Sundance-winning film LAST BLACK MAN IN SAN FRANCISCO, and helming the internationally acclaimed feature film “Three Veils”, a first of its kind to confront homosexuality within the Muslim-American subculture. She is currently embarking on her second feature film: THE VISITOR. Known as the Palestinian “Get Out”, the film is a psychological horror about a young Palestinian man who discovers that living life under an occupation can be just as sinister as the shapeshifting monsters in his grandmother's folktales.Selbak is the founder of the SAFINA FILMMAKER PROJECT, an initiative to raise the voices of Palestinian filmmakers through free artistic mentorship.ROLLASELBAK.COM@ROLLASELBAK (IG)Sacred Conversations are periodic episodes of my podcast in which I reach out to people whose work and life inspire me, and we simply have an old fashioned phone conversation. No video. No scripted, transactional, extractive, one-sided interview dynamic. Just two people with a care and curiosity for each other's journey, asking each other soulful questions, and enjoying the ancient, mutually healing art of listening deeply. Again, not an interview. A spiritual communion. The idea is for us to relax and enjoy an organic conversation, like over tea or breaking bread, and get to know each other along the way. It's not easy to start all over and pursue a career in a competitive industry without many models of those who are similar to you. But after 9/11, Harry Yoon found himself contemplating his future and wanting to make life choices that would reflect his deepest passions and callings. At 31 years old, he walked away from a career in technology, sold everything, and headed to Hollywood in search of a vocational path in the film industry. Two decades later, Harry has experienced the dream of editing a movie that reflects the authenticity of the Korean immigrant experience which was a part of his own story as a second-generation Korean American: Minari, written and directed by Lee Isaac Chung and currently nominated for six Academy Awards. In this special bonus episode, producer Helen Lee talks with Harry about the risks he took to enter this industry, and how he was able to use his bicultural skills and experiences to survive and thrive. Helen and Harry also discuss the elements of Christian faith interwoven throughout the movie and why it carries a message that the church needs now more than ever. About the Guest: Harry Yoon is a wildly-talented editor based in Los Angeles. His most recent work can be seen on HBO and A24's teen drama “Euphoria,” created and directed by Sam Levinson. Yoon continued to collaborate with A24 as an additional editor on The Last Black Man In San Francisco, which was directed by Joe Talbot and premiered at Sundance. Yoon coedited Detroit, Kathryn Bigelow's feature film about a true-crime incident that occurred during the 1967 Detroit riots. He met Kathryn and his coeditor Billy Goldenberg while serving as the VFX Editor on Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty. Yoon edited the historical drama The Best Of Enemies, written and directed by Robin Bissell, starring Sam Rockwell and Taraji P. Henson. He also worked as an additional editor on Universal Pictures's First Man, directed by Damien Chazelle, which premiered at Toronto International Film Festival and starred Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy. Yoon's previous credits as an editor include HBO's The Newsroom and several feature films that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, including Drunktown's Finest, directed by Sydney Freeland, and Half-Life, directed by Jennifer Phang. 0. San Francisco (met Daniel Herskedal) 1'55” 1. I've been hearing a lot of reviews and even a lot of theories but this movie wasn't good and we have to tell the truth here. This movie had a couple good things a tone of bad things.Starting with the good things:- it brought nostalgia back and i enjoyed that, up to a point when it was too much and it looked stupid; - John Williams...one of the best part of the whole saga 1 to 9...period; - Han Solo cameo...Harrison Ford brought value to this movie and i liked that father-son moment; - giving the fact that they had so little to work with they did a decent job with Leia;Other than that that's not really much good stuff in my opinion tbhLet's see the bad stuff:- PALPATINE: from where TF did you pull out Palpatine?!? and why?!? If you tell me that this was the plan all along, to bring Palpatine back i say BS...big BS. First of all if you want to bring him back built the story from the beginning right from TFA, don't throw him in the last episode. See Avengers or Lord of the rings...we know who's the bad guy there is no surprise there. The movie starts with a "death voice mail" from Palpatine, announcing everyone that he's back...not too smart from Palpatine, a master manipulator. Not to mention that we don't know how he got back, they just used a quote from the ROTS. I guess we have to wait for the book or for a leek to find out. The most disturbing fact about Palpatine's return in my opinion is that they took away Darth Vader's sacrifice. I mean the fact that he gave his life to destroy Palpatine means jack shit now; -general Hux: i liked the character in TFA and they could've built him but instead Ryan Johnson choose to smash him to the ground and walls. Not much room for fear and respect there. What did he end up? A spy and a traitor...what a stupid idea; -the knights of Ren: they did jack shit...nothing..ohh wait they did...they got killed...by Kylo Ren. They could've done so much more with them; - if there is something annoying in this movie than it's Rey and her over power skills...like when did you learn that and how?!? because Luke didn't teach her, by the contrary he din't teach her shit...maybe from Leia(because she can fly in space right). Force healing? blocking Palpatine's force lighting? i would've seen Yoda or Mace Windu doing that as high ranking Jedi masters but not Rey with 1 and a half year training; -Rey is Palpatine's niece: so Palpatine had a wife or girlfriend(where was she all this time) and they had a son. Why didn't he used his son for his purpose...he must've been strong with the force. Are we not going to talk about the fact that Palpatine had sex?!? lol; I mean i can keep write about stupid things that happened in all 3 movies but i feel i wrote too much anyway. The whole movie was a roller coaster with light speed. Jumping from a planet to another planet. Everything was rushed, i think they should've waited more. I mean it's the end of a saga, this movie should've been greater than Avengers End Game. The saddest thing is i felt nothing...i left the cinema and i felt nothing about Star Wars and i don't know who to blame? JJ, Rian, or Disney? How did we get here? Why they didn't used George Lucas? It's his "baby" anyway. To finish in a positive note i think there is still hope. The Mandolorian..brilliant tv show i love everything about it(i will write a separate review) and there is also Kenobi on the pipe which i'm dying to see it.Other than that i think you guys are doing an incredible job with your podcast, i'm totally your fan, i listen to you guys every week and i enjoy every episode. I wish you guys success and all the best in the new year. May the force be with you...always :)P.S. : please excuse my spelling mistakes or grammar :)

"The Last Black Ma In San Francisco" is a film about a friendship, a family, a house, a city, and its community. San Francisco serves as a stand-in for cities across the country undergoing gentrification. The film — which won two prizes at the Sundance Film Festival — captures the deep sense of loss that overcomes families who are pushed from their homes and stripped of their communal experience. It's another installment in the recent wave of films out of the Bay Area, made by people of color — about people of color.Host Mark Olsen (@IndieFocus) talks with colleagues @GerrickKennedy, @JustinCChang and @JenYamato. Later on, Olsen talks about LATE NIGHT with critic @KennethTuran and film editor @geoffberkshire. What's the future for this kind of smart, charming mid-level gem in a streaming world? Will they continue to fill up theaters?
