Pyle spent the next three years healing, both physically and emotionally, before returning to the States and establishing the Artimus Pyle Band (A.P.B.) to honor the music and legacy of Ronnie Van Zant.In 1987, Pyle rejoined his former bandmates to tour and eventually record as Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991, but the experience left him flat. Formed in 1974 in Boulder, Colorado, Firefall had several big hits on AM radio in the 1970's with “You Are the Woman,” “Just Remember I Love You,” and “Strange Way,” but also were known for their excellent musicianship, which got them played on FM radio, with tracks like "Cinderella," and "Mexico." The band's latest project, Friends and Family, puts a unique twist on the tribute album. Firefall's former and current members have played with many other bands over the years - so you get songs by the Byrds, Spirit, Heart and the Flying Burrito Brothers. They also tackle songs by bands that they toured with, like the Doobie Brothers and Poco. Ultimately, these versions were recorded with the idea of adding something different to the arrangements, turning these familiar tunes into Firefall classics. We talk again to founding member, Jock Bartley, about the care that went into choosing each song and why they were chosen. He also reveals that a Friends and Family 2 is already in the works.

Going on the road with a bunch of talented musicians isn’t all glitz and glamour, says today's Big Time Talker guest Paul Abraham, but a more enjoyable job would be hard to find. Paul takes us behind the scenes, offering intimate details of the kind of life a roadie or a musician leads.  Having grown up in the Mississippi Delta, the Birthplace of the Blues, Paul’s interest in music flourished and would expand into a wide range of sounds—from classical to classic rock, from country to bluegrass, from big band to jazz. He has been influenced by it all. The first concert he attended was the Beatles in 1966, and from that moment, Paul knew what he wanted to do. Live music was where it was happening, and by hook or by crook, he was going to be involved. Paul eventually would meet Ronnie Van Zant and the Lynyrd Skynyrd band. No one could guess at the time that Paul’s fate would be to befriend this legendary band and, a long time down the road, to actually tour with the survivors of the 1977 plane crash. He was witness to and, often times, a participant in the antics we discuss on this week's show. Paul went on to tour with other artists such as Bad Company, the Marshall Tucker Band, 38 Special, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Paul Rodgers and Michael Peterson. There were 26 people on board and tragically 6 had died from the crash including the lead singer, guitarist, backup vocalist, and assistant manager from the group Lynyrd Skynyrd as well as the pilot and co-pilot.History Seekers were granted a rare opportunity to try and metal detect the location in the hopes of recovering any artifacts from the crash site under the pretense that NONE of the recovered artifacts would be sold for profit.They were greatly surprised with the artifacts that were recovered. They have released a short video on their YouTube channel today showing some of the highlights of their project. On today's episode of Felony Friday Sarah Panell joins John to share her unique and powerful story. From the time Sarah was a toddler she grew up touring with her Dad and Rock n Roll bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd and 38 Special. Drugs were just a part of life growing up. As she got older drugs continued to be a constant. Eventually, poor decisions led to 5 years in state prison for burglary. A few years later Sarah was arrested and convicted of felony possession of a firearm and crack cocaine. She was a victim of crack cocaine mandatory minimums.  Sarah was recently released from prison after serving 15 years.  Unfortunately, she almost served her full sentence, but was released 3 weeks early thanks to the First Step Act.
