Jonathan Majors, once poised as the central villain Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, still hopes to return despite being dropped following a guilty verdict in a domestic assault case. Marvel Studios has reportedly shifted its focus to Doctor Doom for future MCU phases, but Majors expressed a deep love for the Kang role, calling it one of the most challenging and unique of his career. In recent interviews, he confirmed he reached out to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige after his dismissal but received no response. Still, Majors believes that as long as fans continue talking about Kang, there's a chance for a comeback in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. While Marvel is unlikely to reinstate him, his comments have reignited conversation around Kang's potential return—either recast or written off through multiverse twists.

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes.  During our previous coverage of the much discussed Variety article assessing the state of the MCU, one of the key takeaways was the supposed, fast-tracked plan to reunite the original Avengers line-up onscreen. Despite Variety's insider sources, this is apparently not the case, as both Captain America, Chris Evans, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige cast doubts on the possibility in separate statements last week. Feige addressed Robert Downey, Jr.'s Iron Man specifically, speaking to the finality of the character's fate, while Evans expressed how protective he was over his own role. The Internet unleashed an absolute slew of trailers this week; we've tabulated a total of seven high profile trailer releases and have narrowed it down to the four we feel most deserving to be featured in this week's edition of Trailer Park: Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga The Boys Season 4 GTA VI Industry box office predictions for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom's domestic opening are not optimistic, with the last gasp of the floundering DCEU expected to pull in a mere $40 million over the 4-day holiday weekend. Warner Bros' own projections are slightly more generous at $50 million. With that over/under, it's almost as if they knew about our little wager here. Chris Evans wasn't the only Avengers actor to go on record about his protectiveness and ownership of his role; speaking with Collider, Tom Holland indicated while conversations about another Spider-Man film were in the works, he wouldn't be returning to the role just for the sake of it. Eli Roth is working on a follow-up to his holiday-slasher, Thanksgiving, which has earned more than $30 million worldwide. The sequel is scheduled for release in 2025. Warner Brothers is developing a new spinoff of The Big Bang Theory. Although specifics about the setting or characters are not available yet, Chuck Lorre, the show's original creator, will be involved. The unveiling of the WandaVision box set has brought forth a sneak peek into the behind-the-scenes-making of Agatha Darkhold Diaries. The special features contain cast interviews, glimpses from the series production, and exclusive deleted scenes from WandaVision. Amazon has unveiled the initial glimpse of Fallout, an upcoming show inspired by the immensely popular video game series. Featuring Walton Goggins, the series is slated to premiere on Prime on April 12, 2024. HBO revealed the first trailer for Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon Season 2. The eight episode series will debut on Max next summer. Paramount+ has released its first trailer for season 2 of Halo, the series based on the video game franchise. The series will debut on February 8, 2024.  HBO also premiered a trailer for the fourth season of its anthology crime series, True Detective. Jodie Foster and Kali Reis portray detectives with troubled pasts, delving into the vanishing of eight scientists from an Arctic research base during the months of sunlight deprivation in Alaska. Robert Downey, Jr. said, during his Variety Actors on Actors interview with fellow Avenger Mark Ruffalo, “I hate it when people poo poo a genre, because they're all hard and they're all high art when they're done well.” Downey, Jr. and Ruffalo mainly discussed their 2023 projects Oppenheimer and Poor Things, respectively. The Spider-Man Noir series in the works at Prime has added The Punisher's Steve Lightfoot as showrunner. As previously reported in February, the untitled live action series will follow an older, grizzled superhero in 1930s New York City. An individual with knowledge of the project says that the show will be set in its own universe and the main character will not be Peter Parker.

And Reynolds is, indeed, officially a writer on Deadpool 3, having previously picked up a writing credit on Deadpool 2—basically on the strength of how much of his own dialogue he improvises. Which means that, at least hypothetically, any deviations from the movie's script by him could constitute strike-breaking under the rules of the Guild. If he gets reported, he could hypothetically try to argue that he's only fulfilling his roles on the film as an actor or producer—although multi-hyphenate writer-producers have been specifically asked not to do anything even remotely writer-ly on their projects right now—but that “written by” credit is going to be a tricky obstacle to get around.   Disney+   Loki Season 2: Disney+ Confirms Major Change In MCU Release Strategy https://thedirect.com/article/loki-season-2-disney-plus-mcu-release-strategy During Disney's 2023 Upfront event, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed Loki Season 2 will premiere on October 6, which curiously signals a major departure from the MCU's previous Disney+ release strategy.   Strangely enough, this release date has the Tom Hiddleston-led season premiering its first episode on a Friday, despite Disney+ traditionally debuting new episodes of its Marvel, Star Wars, and other original series on Wednesdays.   Loki Season 2's premiere date of Friday, October 6, falls on the Columbus Day holiday weekend, indicating the shift was made to capitalize on the masses being off work and at home watching TV.   Marvel Studios announced that its next show after Loki Season 2, Echo, will debut its entire six-episode season in historic fashion on Wednesday, November 29, suggesting a one-off shift to a Friday premiere.   At a rate of one episode per week, Loki ought to conclude its six-episode run with an epic finale on November 8, assuming it hops back to Wednesdays. Although this would leave a comfortable three-week window ahead of the November 29 premiere of Echo, it also places the finale just two days apart from The Marvels.   OUTRO AND BONUS AUDIO [1:13:08]   We would love to hear back from you! Feige brought up Moon Knight's MCU future during a conversation with Entertainment Weekly about the initial wave of Marvel-produced Disney+ series, which included the six-episode Moon Knight series. "The fun thing about streaming is they are there forever, and people can keep re-exploring them," Feige said. "Moon Knight, same thing. I think there's a future for that character as we move forward."   Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has provided an update on Spider-Man 4. During a chat with Entertainment Weekly, Feige was asked if there were any updates on Spider-Man 4, following the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. While his response was short, he did indicate the story is already settled for Peter Parker's next adventure. Feige said, "All I will say is that we have the story. We have big ideas for that, and our writers are just putting pen to paper now."   Marvel Studios President and Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige "reveals" which character from The Marvels steals the upcoming film. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Feige discussed what the major takeaways were for Marvel Studios during Phase 4, which introduced several new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a variety of films and television shows. "I hope we learn something on every project," he said. "I was very pleased with everything that we did. Kamala Khan, for instance, is a great new character in the pantheon. I'm very proud of the Ms. Marvel show. I also know — and this is a spoiler — she essentially steals The Marvels, which is coming out [July 28]. It makes me excited that people will, I hope, see that movie and then go back and revisit those shows on Disney+."   The Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Blade, starring Mahershala Ali as the famous vampire hunter, will shoot in about two and a half months, according to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. Feige was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly about the MCU's Phase Five, which begins with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and ends with an all new Blade in late 2024. When asked if he had any updates on Blade, Feige didn't disclose many details but confirmed that the film is moving along smoothly. "It's going well," Feige said. "Our director Yann [Demange] is down in Atlanta right now. Cameras roll in, like, the next 10 weeks or so." Insider reports previously claimed that Blade wouldn't begin shooting until July, but Feige's projected start date of 10 weeks means the movie will begin shooting this spring.   Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige addressed the ever-expanding scope of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, pointing out that it was necessary to release a wide variety of films and television shows while noting that not everything would necessarily appeal to everyone. "If there's a Marvel Studios method -- like there was a Marvel method in publishing -- it's trying to do both," Feige told Entertainment Weekly when asked about balancing ongoing MCU story threads with capturing new audiences. "I've talked about this for years: If you want to dip in and out and just go to the movies on a Friday night or watch a streaming series, you can do that. And if you want to follow along, there's certainly much more to be discovered. But we don't ever want it to seem exclusive or that you need to have done your homework before watching something. Now, I've also realized that a lot of people like to do the homework. A lot of people find the fun in the homework and the continuity and the connectivity. But it is a balance of always trying to do both."   Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently confirmed that Harrison Ford's Thunderbolt Ross is the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new U.S. President. Feige confirmed that Ross will move into the Oval Office in Captain America: New World Order in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "[Ross is] the President of the United States in the film," he said. "And with Harrison, you think about Air Force One, and you think about some of his confrontations with the president in Clear and Present Danger. There's a dynamic between President Ross and Sam Wilson. They have a history together, but in this film, we'll be seeing the dynamic between Captain America and the President of the United States in a way that is just incredible." Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes will play an essential role in the highly-anticipated Thunderbolts movie. Speaking with EW, Feige teased that Bucky Barnes will become the de facto leader of this group of complicated individuals who don't even consider themselves heroes. "What's fun about that [Thunderbolts film], and I sort of said this at D23, is that they are barely heroes," Feige said. "None of them would consider themselves heroes. When your de facto leader is Bucky Barnes, that's sort of all you need to know. That's the trickle down."   According to Kevin Feige, the 'Previously On' recap could be less important for upcoming Marvel TV shows as they might experiment with more traditional episodic structures. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Feige stated that "[w]e want to do shows that can only be shows. I want to continue to make them even more episodic, which may seem counterintuitive. But I do think there is something fun about leaning back and watching an episode that can be relatively self-contained." He pointed to watching episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation to illustrate the pleasures of less overarching TV storytelling: "I still find it soothing to watch an episode of Next Gen with a beginning and an end. So, I think we're going to keep experimenting with that going forward."   When it comes to upcoming projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has one, in particular, he's most looking forward to. "...We talked a little bit about Secret Wars. We talked about Kang Dynasty as related to Quantumania," Feige told Entertainment Weekly, referencing the MCU's current storylines and reflecting on future projects. "The only other one in terms of me personally and my 23-year history is the Fantastic Four. We sort of talked about mutants and that whole aspect to the Marvel world, but Fantastic Four is the foundation for everything that came after in the comics. There's certainly been versions of it [on screen], but never inhabiting the storytelling of the MCU. And that's something that is really exciting for us."   MCU – MARVEL STUDIOS   Brie Larson says The Marvels costar Iman Vellani is 'the future' https://ew.com/movies/brie-larson-the-marvels-iman-vellani-is-the-future/ The Marvels' Captain Marvel/Ms. Marvel dynamic brings things full circle for Brie Larson, who joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks in part to Kamala Khan's 2014 comic debut. "A huge part of why I wanted to play Captain Marvel was because of Ms. Marvel and what that meant," Larson told Entertainment Weekly in regards to her MCU origins and co-star Iman Vellani's Marvel future. Praising Vellani's performance as the young hero Kamala, she continued, "To see that character realized by such a brilliant human with so much potential is just a really exciting thing." Larson described Vellani -- who made her acting debut in last year's Ms. Marvel Disney+ show -- as "the perfect Ms. Marvel and the most incredible person and castmate. I'm so excited for her success and I'm so excited to see what she will do with her life because she can do anything she wants. She's one of my favorite people on this earth."   Deadpool 3, Blade Get Basic Synopses and the Same Filming Start Date https://www.cbr.com/deadpool-3-blade-synopsis-film-date/ Marvel Studios' upcoming films Deadpool 3 and Blade are both currently scheduled to begin production on the same day, according to a new report.   Per Production List, the two Marvel Cinematic Universe titles will both commence principal photography on May 1, with Deadpool 3 shooting in Vancouver, Canada, and Blade set to film in both Atlanta and New Orleans. Brief synopses were also released for the upcoming superhero installments, with Deadpool 3's simply teasing "Another chapter in the raunchy, violent, and of course, hilarious Deadpool series." However, the synopsis for Blade is a bit meatier and reads as follows: "He is known to be a vampire hunter— half-mortal, half-immortal— who tries to rid the world of vampires as a way of avenging his mother, who was killed by a vampire as she gave birth to him." While light on plot details, the synopsis does confirm that the MCU version of the character will retain his comic book origin.   Steve Yeun joining Thunderbolts https://deadline.com/2023/02/thunderbolts-steven-yeun-marvel-studios-1235268760/ He joins an ensemble that was announced during Disney's D23 event last year that includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster. Ayo Edebiri also joined the ensemble in an undisclosed role.   ‘Quantumania' Still Worst Drop For MCU Title, ‘Cocaine Bear' Real High With $23M & ‘Jesus Revolution' Raising $15M+ – Sunday Box Office https://deadline.com/2023/02/box-office-cocaine-bear-jesus-revolution-ant-man-and-the-wasp-1235269877/ Insiders at Marvel Studios aren't worried about Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, despite the film's record drop at the domestic box office.   "Marvel takes something away from movies including Black Panther, including Avengers," an insider close to the film told Deadline about Quantumania, which dropped nearly 70% at the domestic box office in its second weekend in theaters. "I can say we're incredibly proud of the film, Jonathan Majors does a fantastic job as Kang. It's the movie we wanted to make. Box office is what it is. But it's not going to stop people from going back to the theaters."   After ‘Ant-Man 3's' Second Weekend Box Office Collapse, Should Marvel Get Concerned? https://variety.com/2023/film/box-office/ant-man-quantumania-box-office-drop-concern-marvel-1235536265/ Marvel's latest MCU release, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, had a big box office drop over its second weekend, but Hollywood analysts suggest it's not time for Marvel to panic.   The third installment in the Ant-Man franchise amassed $105 million in its opening weekend and followed up the next weekend with only $32 million in profit. Despite having the first $100 million debut of 2023, Variety reports that the 69% drop is Marvel's biggest second-week crash to date. Despite this, Marvel insiders have stated they are unconcerned with the significant box office loss, and Hollywood analysts seem to agree. An official trailer for the third Guardians of the Galaxy film was released during Super Bowl LVII on Feb. 12 and featured new footage of the team as they prepare for "one last ride," in what will be their final entry together in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The trailer shows Will Poulter's Adam Warlock, Rocket Raccoon's origin story -- including his girlfriend, Lylla -- Zoe Saldana's Gamora and more. Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the last appearance from this group of Guardians in the MCU.   Kevin Feige opens up about Phase 5, Kang, and the future of the MCU https://ew.com/movies/kevin-feige-marvel-phase-5-exclusive-interview/ Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has revealed that fans will see Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently confirmed that Harrison Ford's Thunderbolt Ross is the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new U.S. They have a history together, but in this film, we'll be seeing the dynamic between Captain America and the President of the United States in a way that is just incredible." Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige addressed the ever-expanding scope of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, pointing out that it was necessary to release a wide variety of films and television shows while noting that not everything would necessarily appeal to everyone. But it is a balance of always trying to do both." Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes will play an essential role in the highly-anticipated Thunderbolts movie. And that's something that is really exciting for us."   The Marvels Bumps Its Release Date Back to Late 2023 https://www.cbr.com/the-marvels-release-date-late-2023/ Marvel Studios has delayed its upcoming Phase 5 title The Marvels from summer 2023 to late 2023.   Announced alongside a brand-new teaser poster for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel, The Marvels is now scheduled to open in theaters on Nov. 10. This is the fifth release date for The Marvels, which was originally scheduled to open back in July 2022. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was delayed to November 2022 and then February 2023. Marvel Studios had previously had the film set to open on July 28 for this latest delay.   No reason was given by Marvel Studios for the film's delay; however, a recent report has claimed that Marvel is looking at having more breathing room between MCU projects to prevent audience fatigue as well as allow the creative times more time in post-production. The report mentions that the Disney+ series Echo and Ironheart are no longer guaranteed to debut in 2023 because of these changes and that development on other projects -- like the rumored Nova series -- will slow down. However, the insiders did not mention if the MCU films would be affected by this decision, so it is impossible to say if that is the reason for The Marvels' delay until Marvel Studios confirms the report, which it has yet to do at the time of writing.   REPORT: Kevin Feige Is Eyeing Disney's Top Creative Position https://www.cbr.com/kevin-feige-walt-disney-studios-chairman-promotion While Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige's presence has been ubiquitous for fans following news about the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its 2008 inception, he's reportedly vying for a higher position.   Feige, according to The Hot Mic podcast's Jeff Sneider, is looking to ascend the leadership ladder at Disney, specifically for the position of Walt Disney Studios Chairman. The position in question, currently occupied by Alan Bergman, is essentially the second-highest in the entire Disney corporate structure, just below the #1 spot of the recently reinstated CEO Bob Iger. Feige has long-coveted the position, and "wants to be the #2 at Disney," according to Sneider, who said that he has designs for "being the creative absolute head of a studio who can put his fingerprints on everything and leave maybe the business stuff to someone in the Iger-type of seat, who has to oversee parks, resorts and cruise ships." Indeed, he adds that the longtime Marvel Studios overseer "aspires to be more than the head of a label."   How Kang Became Marvel's Next Supervillain and Why Phase 4 Sets It All Up https://gizmodo.com/kang-the-conqueror-mcu-marvel-phase-5-stephen-broussard-1850094830 While Tony Stark/Iron Man started the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios executive Stephen Broussard recently shared disappointing news about MCU veteran Robert Downey Jr. possibly returning to the franchise. While speaking to io9, Broussard said that he thought one of Phase 4's meta-narratives centered on new characters and mantles taken up by the latest heroes. "If you look at, like, Cassie [Lang in Quantumania] getting a suit and Kate Bishop [in Hawkeye], new characters being introduced like Jack in Werewolf by Night," he explained. "After these first 10 years of Marvel storytelling, torches are being passed, like with Robert Downey Jr. no longer being [on the] table and stuff like that. So it was kind of like a new generation stepping to the forefront which, again, has always happened in the comics."     DISNEY+   Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur Releases Its First Episode Online for Free https://www.cbr.com/marvel-moon-girl-devil-dinosaur-episode-free/ The double-length premiere episode of Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is available to stream online for free. The premiere, titled "Moon Girl Landing," was released on YouTube the same day it aired on Disney Channel. The show follows Lunella Lafayette (Diamond White), a 13-year-old super-genius living in Manhattan, whose portal experiment accidentally summons a cherry-red Tyrannosaurus rex (Fred Tatasciore). Encouraged by her new friend and manager Casey (Libe Barer), Lunella dons a costume and an arsenal of homemade gadgets to protect the Lower East Side alongside the beast as the duo Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. However, when the two come across a genuine supervillain in the form of the electrically-powered Aftershock (Alison Brie), Lunella fears she may not actually have what it takes to be a hero.   Disney+'s X-Men Season 2 Gets Announcement Video https://thedirect.com/article/disney-x-men-season-2-announcement-video Wolverine voice actor Cal Dodd has confirmed that he is already working on the second season of the Disney+ animated series X-Men '97, Marvel Studios' upcoming follow-up to the beloved X-Men: The Animated Series.   Per The Direct, Dodd announced that he had begun recording lines for X-Men '97 Season 2 in a now-deleted Twitter post. While the Marvel film has some new competition with Top Gun: Maverick, it's still having success at the box office. The Sam Raimi-directed MCU flick has officially crossed $900 million at the worldwide box office.    Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness has earned an estimated $909.4 million as of Sunday. $388.7 million of the total is from the domestic box office while $520.7 million comes from the international box office. The movie managed to hit $900 million after five weekends without ever being released in China or Russia.   Deadpool 3 Writers Reassure Fans That Wade Wilson Won't Be 'Disney-fied' https://www.cbr.com/deadpool-3-writers-wade-wilson-disneyfied/ Deadpool 3 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick promise fans the Wade Wilson they know and love isn't getting the Disney treatment.   The pair spoke to The Playlist and were asked about the story-based issues and concerns that have arisen from the merger of 21st Century Fox and Disney. Reese answered, "It was Fox, all these different people, and now it's not those people anymore. It's these [Disney] people and these people do things their way. And we were used to doing things our way, so there are differences, but I think the great part is that Marvel's been incredibly supportive." Reese continued, "They are gonna let Deadpool be Deadpool, you know? It's not like any particular joke may be the one that they say, 'you know, that's too far.'" That could happen, but to this point, it's been nothing but support."   On what the support they have received from Marvel Studios actually looks like, Reese said, “It's been nothing but, 'How can we help you?' ‘What from our universe would you like to use? How, how can we make your life easy?' And we're gonna let Deadpool be Deadpool. We're not… this is not going to be the Disney-fied Deadpool. So they're awesome, and now it's up to us to come through and justify that faith."   Marvel's Thunderbolts Movie Adds Jake Schreier as Director https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/marvel-thunderbolts-movie-jake-schreier-director/   The Marvel Cinematic Universe's long-gestating Thunderbolts project is finally on its way to becoming a reality. On Thursday, reports indicated that Jake Schreier has been tapped to direct an upcoming Thunderbolts movie, with Black Widow's Eric Pearson set to write the script and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige set to produce.   It is unclear at this point who could make up the cast of Thunderbolts, a team that traditionally consists of supervillains and antiheroes going on missions, initially to convince the general public that they are operating as heroes. The first comic incarnation of the team was led by Baron Zemo, with other members including Songbird, Moonstone, Taskmaster, U.S. Agent, Crossbones, Abomination, Ghost, and more. The team gets its namesake from General Thunderbolt Ross (William Hurt), but following Hurt's passing earlier this year, it's anyone's guess as to how that aspect of the storyline could be handled. Marvel Studios To Skip San Diego Comic-Con 2022 (Exclusive) https://onetakenews.com/2022/06/09/marvel-skip-sdcc-2022-exclusive/   Multiple sources have informed OTN that Marvel Studios will not be holding a panel at San Diego Comic-Con this year and no new announcements are planned for the convention. Sources tell us that Disney is looking to focus on the D23 Expo 2022 as it's the first one since the pandemic and that they want the heavy hitters like Marvel to be there.   Marvel Studios has a lot coming up on their slate. With shows like She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, Secret Invasion, and Daredevil or movies like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels, it makes sense for Disney and Marvel Studios to promote these at an in-house event.   D23 Expo 2022 will run from September 9-11 and we can expect new announcements then.   List of upcoming projects from this article:  Marvel Studios Reportedly Planning to Skip San Diego Comic-Con 2022  https://www.cbr.com/marvel-studios-skip-san-diego-comic-con-2022/ Next on deck on the TV side is  I Am Groot (Aug. 10) She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (Aug. 17)  Untitled Halloween special (October 2022) The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (December 2022) What If...? The crimping in windows, which of course impacted the star's bonus, led to the twice-Oscar-nominated actress suing Disney and settling for a reported $40M+.   Adding to the further erosion of box office for any theatrical-day-and-date release on streaming is the fact that these movies are pirated promptly, with clean 4K copies in several languages spread around the world. By the end of August, sources in the know informed us that Black Widow had been pirated more than 20M times. That's close to a $600M estimated loss on Black Widow in Disney+ PVOD revenue alone   Disney+   [16:02] Geek Exclusive: Vincent D'onofrio Says Disney+ Hawkeye's Kingpin Is The Same Villain From Netflix's Daredevil, Wants A Showdown With Spider-Man https://geekculture.co/geek-exclusive-vincent-donofrio-hawkeye-kingpin/ With the introduction of the multiverse in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), fans know that anything is possible, including the use of variants, of alternate versions of popular MCU characters, a concept which was first introduced in the Disney+ series, Loki.   The recent reintroduction of Netflix's Daredevil's Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin in Disney+'s latest Hawkeye series has not only surprised fans, it also brought about the inevitable question – are the current versions seen this year the same ones from the Netflix series from 2015, or are they variants?   Thankfully, actor Vincent D'onofrio, who played the infamous Marvel Comics villain across three seasons of the Netflix show, is ready to set the record straight, and appease fans attempting to connect the dots – yes, the Kingpin audiences see in Hawkeye is the same villain from Daredevil.   “He obviously has more physical strength and can take a lot more physical abuse but from story point of view, it was discussed that this is after The Blip, that he is the same guy that was in Daredevil, but he's lost some of his power,” explained D'onofrio in an exclusive interview with Geek Culture.    “My arc in Hawkeye is that I want my power back, so from an actor's point of view, it's portraying him exactly, with the same kind of emotional feel and foundation that I did in Daredevil.”    Fans were teased early on, when his character was referenced in episode 3 of Hawkeye when Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) was told that her uncle would come pick her up after taekwondo lessons. His character was later confirmed in the final moments of episode 5.    The confusion stems from the fact that the multiple seasons from the Netflix series of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher and The Defenders were initially identified as part of the MCU, but the characters and storylines were never referenced in the movies, and after the shows were canceled, fans began to speculate that Marvel Studios had no intention of recognising them, until now.    D'onofrio portrayed the villain in 27 episodes of Daredevil, and also appeared in The Punisher. The Kingpin's fate was left open ended after the third season of Daredevil was canceled with a cliffhanger. This confirmation from D'onofrio answers many questions fans have been wondering for the last three years – that he lived, and after leaving prison during The Blip when Thanos made half the population in the universe disappear, spent that time rebuilding his empire, and that the Kingpin is the same character across all the MCU shows.   The return of Kingpin wasn't only an exciting affair for fans, but also for D'onofrio, who never imagined returning to the character after three years. He certainly didn't expect to start off this year with a phone call from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige either.    “Very early in the year, they reached out, Kevin actually. Kevin called me and invited me to do Hawkeye. And you can imagine, I was extremely excited about that,” said D'onofrio.    Returning to a different set with the same character also proved to be a stimulating experience for the veteran actor, whose credits include acclaimed turns in Full Metal Jacket, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, especially when it came to reuniting with co-star Vera Farmiga, who played Eleanor Bishop in the series. While he technically only appears in two of the six episodes, D'onofrio has powerful scenes with Maya Lopez and Kazi (Fra Fee), as well as a massive showdown with Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop in the final episode.   “Vera, I've worked with before so I know that she's a wonderful actress and so good. I'm always so impressed by her, and then with Hailee, I didn't have a lot of dialogue but that fight scene was very technical and I was really impressed with her work ethic and she just seems like such a powerhouse on set,” he continued.    “And then with Alaqua and Fra, the two of them are both amazing actors and actresses. I love to be impressed by young people and I was definitely impressed. You know, it was really quite something, to be around young people with that kind of work ethic and that kind of talent. It inspires me. It was a wonderful thing.”    While Hawkeye has now allowed Kingpin to face off with other heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, D'onofrio does have a wish list of which hero he wants to meet face-to-face, and top of his list is everyone's favourite webslinger.   “I think because of the history of the comic books when I was a kid – Punisher, Daredevil and Spider-Man. My hope is that someday, I get to face all of them as the character of Kingpin. I think that would be nice.”    Although the season finale hints at the ending of Kingpin's story once and for all, D'onofrio doesn't know what's in store for the future but is hoping that it's not actually the end, and that he can continue to play the character till his heart's content.    “I don't know. I can only hope that we do it,” smiled D'onofrio. “I think that would be great, and I think we just all have to keep our fingers crossed that it happens.”    Oh trust us, our fingers are crossed alright.    [22:51] ‘Wandavision' Is The Most Pirated TV-Show of 2021 https://torrentfreak.com/wandavision-is-the-most-pirated-tv-show-of-2021-211225/ ‘Wandavision' is the most-pirated TV show released in 2021 on torrent sites. The popular Disney+ series decrowned 'The Mandalorian' which topped the chart last year. 'Loki,' another Marvel series, is listed in second place and 'The Witcher' completes the top three.   At the end of every year, we take a look at the most-downloaded TV episodes among torrenting pirates.   For several years in a row the list was headed by Game of Thrones but that reign came to an end last year after the series ended.   This changing of the guard coincided with the launch of several Disney+ exclusives, which do particularly well among the pirating public. Last year ‘The Mandalorian' was the most pirated TV series and in 2021 another Disney title tops the list.   ‘Wandavision' seamlessly took over the top spot in a list that is dominated by Marvel series. The series was a hit on Disney+ and on pirate sites, with each episode being downloaded millions of times.   The competition for the top spot was fierce with four titles clearly standing out among the rest. Disney's “Loki” eventually settled for second place, one spot higher than Netflix's “The Witcher.”   ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' settled for the fourth spot but wasn't too far off in popularity compared to the top three.   What stands out most is that all Disney+ series of Marvel's “Phase Four” are listed in the top 10. In addition to the titles already mentioned, also included is ‘Hawkeye' in fifth spot and ‘What If…?' in sixth.   With the current streaming landscape being so fragmented, it appears that many people prefer to pirate instead of paying for ‘another' subscription. That definitely applies to Marvel fans.   Update: Our calculations are based on single episodes which means that season packs are underrepresented which disadvantages series that are released in one go. Based on rough calculations, Netflix's Casa de Papel could taken the 5th spot. Squid Game would have made it into the top 10 as well. We will do our best to reflect this correctly in future lists.   It's worth noting that BitTorrent traffic only makes up a small portion of the piracy landscape. Most people use streaming sites and services nowadays, which generally do not report viewing stats.   Below we have compiled a list of the most torrented TV shows worldwide and released in 2021 (single episode). The ranking is estimated based on sample data from several sources, including I Know and statistics reported by public BitTorrent trackers.   Rank    Last Year 1          (…)       Wandavision 2          (…)       Loki 3          (…)       The Witcher 4          (…)       The Falcon and the Winter Soldier 5          (…)       Hawkeye 6          (…)       What If…? 7          (…)       Foundation 8          (6)        Rick and Morty 9          (…)       Arcane 10         (…)       Wheel of Time   [27:04] Hawkeye Blooper Reel Reveals Deleted Scenes, More Kingpin Footage https://www.cbr.com/hawkeye-blooper-reel-reveals-deleted-scenes-more-kingpin-footage/ (On Disney+) The two-minute-long reel now streaming on Disney+ has a decidedly sitcom-like feel, introducing each of the cast members to the tune of "Sweet Gingerbread Man" sung by Sammy Davis Jr. While there's no audio apart from the song for most of it, there's still plenty of evidence that Hawkeye was just as much fun to shoot as it was for audiences to watch.   The clip opens by introducing Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye and Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop and shows the pair laughing it up together in a car. The more villainous characters on the show also get their time in the spotlight, with Fra Fee pretending to share a kiss with Tracksuit Mafia thug Aleks Paunovic and Alaqua Cox enjoying her time as Maya Lopez/Echo. Additional footage shows Yelena Belova actor Florence Pugh and Eleanor Bishop actor Vera Farmiga sharing some laughs while filming various scenes for the series.   Along with shots of cast members breaking characters and enjoying their time on set, the gag reel includes a handful of deleted scenes centered on Jack (Dalton). One depicts the talented swordsman in what appears to be prison clothes and standing against a metal mesh fence, while another has him brandishing his signature sword in the kitchen, as seen in Episode 6 ("So This Is Christmas?").   The reel also features an over-the-shoulder shot of Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin in his white coat sitting in a restaurant. In a coy nod to Marvel's vaunted secrecy, even the gag reel attempts to keep D'Onofrio's arrival on the show a surprise by redacting the actor's name in the title card.   Netflix Defenders   [30:39] Jessica Henwick on MCU Return As Iron Fist: "Never Say Never" https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/jessica-henwick-marvel-iron-fist-mcu-colleen-wing-return/ Jessica Henwick was offered a role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings but she turned it down. The actress took a job with The Matrix Resurrections, instead. Henwick's Matrix gig has her fans cheering for various action beats and story moments as she teams up with returning franchise veteran Keanu Reeves but there is also a large camp of her fans hoping to see more of her in the Iron Fist role. As the story goes, Resurrections was not the only reason Henwick did not join Shang-Chi. The actress is interested in getting another crack at her Colleen Wing character and seems quite open to the idea of becoming the Iron Fist herself.    A return for Henwick from her role in the Marvel TV-controlled Iron Fist series for the Marvel Studios-controlled Disney+ shows or movies doesn't seem too unlikely. Vincent D'Onofrio and Charlie Cox were both recently revealed to have reprised their roles as Kingpin and Daredevil, respectively, from their Netflix shows. "He's so good," Henwick said of D'Onofrio. "And yeah, Charlie Cox is out there doing his thing."   As for whether or not Henwick will be reprising the role, it seems there is no news on that front yet. When asked if she would be interested in portraying the MCU's Iron Fist, Henwick didn't exactly dismiss the idea. "Look, the way we left Iron Fist, spoiler alert, Colleen has the power and she's in a really good place," Henwick told ComicBook.com. "I would love to revisit her. That character meant a lot to me and really changed my life. And I would love to revisit her one day, but it would really have to be the right place, and the right time, and the right script, but never say never."   Henwick portrayed Colleen Wing in Iron Fist, The Defenders, and an episode of Luke Cage. It's not entirely clear just yet if the Marvel stories told on Netflix shows are canon to the main continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe which is controlled by Marvel Studios. D'Onofrio tells ComicBook.com that he was instructed to play his Kingpin the same way as he did on Netflix's Daredevil when he appeared in Hawkeye, though there were notable physical differences in the character which might be explained through by the gap in time since he was last since in 2018 before appearing in Hawkeye, which is set in 2024 at the earliest.    After being a part of the Matrix franchise, Henwick might even have a few new moves to show off in the Marvel Cinematic Universe should she get the call to return. "[The Matrix Resurrections felt like an amalgamation of all the different bits of training that I'd had over the years with so many amazing coordinators and instructors," Henwick explained. "But really what was new for this time around was the work I had to do with guns. I had almost no real, hardcore weapons experience. And we had an amazing trainer, Rock, who made me feel really safe and tried to encourage me to just feel like it was an extension of the hand, that I was one with it. Because if you look at Keanu, I remember the first time on set with my gun, he just came over and inspected it. And there's an effortless aspect to it that I really wanted to emulate."   Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.   [35:09] Agents of SHIELD Fans Rally To Save The Show https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/agents-of-shield-save-the-show-fans-rally/ Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans want to save the show and are making their presence felt on Twitter. Seeing the renaissance of older characters being brought into the fold through Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye, people have started a hashtag surrounding the ABC series. This is nothing new for the SHIELD fandom who battled for respect in the latter part of its run. However, recent events have to make the fans feel a little better about their prospects. Who among us thought we would see Charlie Cox grave a Marvel production again? Probably, only the most ardent believers. But, here we sit in the year 2022 with dozens of reports about his involvement going forward. It's a wild time to be a fan of comic book movies and shows. So, why not try and get one of your favorites back on the board with a social media push. Chloe Bennet shared her support for the fandom last year as people wondered if they could see her in the MCU as a part of Secret Invasion.  "I definitely would," Bennet told Looper of a possible return. "I mean, I have such a soft spot for her. I started shooting the show when I was 20, and then I finished when I was 27. To get this time right now, in isolation, to kind of contemplate the past seven years and how much it's meant to me — it hasn't really hit me yet that the show is over, so it doesn't really feel like I'm done playing her yet." She added, "I think once the last episode airs and the show is really out of my life, I think that will be an interesting feeling. But I can never say never. I mean, Coulson's died like 800 times. I don't think I realized when I first auditioned for the role how much this entire entity, how much this character, how much this universe and how much SHIELD was going to be just a part of me for the rest of my life. I definitely would be open to playing her again. But I have not been asked to, so... The filmmaker, who directed Shang-Chi, one of the biggest movies of 2021, was already an up-and-coming director before joining the Marvel universe. Now, it seems he will spend a little time there over the next few years, while also developing programming for Hulu and Disney+.   In addition to his as-yet-unknown MCU Disney+ show, Cretton has another comic book adaptation set up at the streamer, although it's not what you might expect. The filmmaker recently announced a series based on former Action Comics writer Gene Luen Yang's acclaimed YA graphic novel American Born Chinese.    "Destin is a powerhouse storyteller with impeccable taste in material. As we continue to expand our roster, Destin's unique voice will help usher in an exciting slate of content for our global audience," said Tara Duncan, President, Freeform & Onyx Collective, in a statement (via Deadline).   "Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings," said Kevin Feige, President, Marvel Studios and Chief Creative Officer. "We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we're thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can't wait to get started."   "Working on Shang-Chi with Kevin and the Marvel Studios team was one of the highlights of my life, and I couldn't be more excited about Tara's vision for Onyx Collective," Cretton added. "I can't wait to explore new stories and build new worlds with this community."   In Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings, Shang-Chi must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization. The movie stars Liu alongside Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh, Ben Kingsley, and Benedict Wong. Shang-Chi is in some theaters now, having broken box office records over Labor Day Weekend and become one of the highest grossing films of 2021, and also available on Disney+.   Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer https://twitter.com/SonyAnimation/status/1467294398413262850   RUMOR: Ant-Man 3 Turns an Established MCU Villain Into MODOK https://www.cbr.com/ant-man-3-turns-yellowjacket-into-modok/ A new rumor claims a long-absent MCU villain will return and be transformed into M.O.D.O.K. in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.   Two rumors about Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania have merged into a new report claiming an existing Marvel Cinematic Universe villain will return as M.O.D.O.K.   According to GWW, Corey Stoll will not only come back in the third Ant-Man film but the former Yellowjacket will transform into the MCU's M.O.D.O.K. Stoll was the villain in the first Ant-Man, with the finale seeing him shrink down to the Quantum Realm. Fans have long wondered if he could return, seeing as Janet Van Dyne, Hank Pym, and Scott Lang have all gone in and come back out. And earlier this year, a rumor emerged that Stoll would appear in Quantumania.   Obviously, it seemed likely that Stoll would play the same character again, especially after a Yellowjacket Easter egg appeared in Loki. But if the rumor is true, then it seems Darren Cross' time in the Quantum Realm will transform him into the live-action M.O.D.O.K., a villain long rumored to arrive in the MCU.   What makes the potential change more intriguing is that another rumor recently claimed Jim Carrey would play M.O.D.O.K. That rumor said he was likely to appear on She-Hulk and other Disney+ shows, but it also noted there was a chance the character would debut in Ant-Man 3. The throughline to both rumors, of course, is that M.O.D.O.K. will soon join the MCU, and it also seems safe to assume that Stoll will play some sort of role in Quantumania.   This wouldn't be the first time that a long-absent villain returned to the MCU in a new form. The Red Skull seemingly perished in 2011's Captain America: The First Avengers after picking up the Tesseract/Space Stone only to reappear in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War as the guardian of the Soul Stone on Vormir.   Outside of this twist, Marvel Studios also regularly tweaks comic book source material to fit into the universe of the films and TV shows. Considering how unusual of a character M.O.D.O.K. is, having an existing villain mutated by a parallel dimension isn't hard to imagine. And the Yellowjacket suit could easily be warped into M.O.D.O.K.'s similar yellow armor.   For now, however, all of these are simply rumors until more concrete info about Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania arrives ahead of its July 28, 2023 release date.     DISNEY+   Kevin Feige Confirms Daredevil Casting In The MCU, And Fans Will Be Pumped https://www.cinemablend.com/interviews/kevin-feige-confirms-daredevil-casting-in-the-mcu-and-fans-will-be-pumped https://www.cbr.com/charlie-cox-mcu-daredevil-confirmed/ Over the years, certain actors have grown to become synonymous with the Marvel character they were hired to play. Robert Downey Jr. IS Tony Stark. Chris Evans has claimed the fabric of Steve Rogers. Some roles can get recast, like Edward Norton handing Hulk to Mark Ruffalo, or Don Cheadle replacing Terrence Howard. But many lay claim to their character, and that's final. This is how many MCU fans feel about Charlie Cox and his portrayal of the blind attorney Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil. There have been calls to bring Cox over to the MCU and allow him to keep playing the Man Without Fear… and it seems like Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has been listening.    The man behind the machine that is the MCU sat down with CinemaBlend recently, and fielded out questions about Daredevil, and the character's potential in the MCU now that his Netflix show has run its course. It'd be a shame NOT to feature Daredevil in either a Marvel feature or a Disney+ show, and we asked Feige what he thought about Charlie Cox being able to stay in the part. To our surprise, the usually covert Kevin Feige confirmed the news that so many fans will want to hear when he told CinemaBlend:   “If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil. Where we see that, how we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen.”   Kevin Feige still kept some cards close to his vest with regards to the future of Daredevil when it comes to a concrete timeline, but those who loved Charlie Cox's portrayal of the character can rejoice in knowing that he will return to Hell's Kitchen at some point and patrol the streets on behalf of the neighborhood's citizens. And in light of a number of shows that have been developing, bringing Daredevil over makes more sense than it might have when the Netflix show ran its course.    For instance, Hawkeye on Disney+ just introduced the character of Echo, a deaf warrior with connections to Wilson Fisk, aka The Kingpin. And Daredevil has been a consistent thorn in Fisk's side for decades in the comics. There have been rumors that Vincent D'Onofrio, also from the Netflix Daredevil show, is about to show up on Hawkeye, so pitting Cox against his former co-star is a natural progression.    If Marvel Studios only wanted to explore the legal aspects of Matt Murdock, who is as powerful in a courtroom as he is in a darkened alley, then Daredevil could be a natural fit on She-Hulk, another Disney+ show that's in production now that will introduce audiences to Jennifer Walters (Tatiyana Maslany), yet another superpowered citizen who practices law. Why was this such a common things at Marvel Comics over the years?   Charlie Cox's take on Matt Murdock and Daredevil was incredibly popular with Marvel fans, and an improvement over Ben Affleck's efforts in a doomed Daredevil movie that cast MCU rock star Jon Favreau as Foggy Nelson. We will see how many Netflix players follow Charlie Cox to the MCU if and when he arrives, but according to Kevin Feige, it's happening, and we know that fans will be overjoyed.   Will Daredevil's Deborah Ann Woll Return to the MCU? "I think they are spectacular actors, and I have learned a lot from watching them work behind the scenes."   While Cox admitted she was incredibly nervous on her first day of filming the Disney+ series, she added that Renner immediately made her feel at home. "I remember meeting Jeremy on my first day of work on-set; I was a nervous wreck, as this was my very first acting job," she explained. "He then complimented me in American Sign Language (ASL), which comforted me."   The actor also shared that Steinfeld, who portrays Kate Bishop in the series, spelled out her name in ASL while they were doing stunt training sessions, noting, "I thought it was sweet of them putting in efforts to learn basic ASL to communicate with me. It means a lot to me as a Deaf person."   In addition to speaking about the kindness of her co-stars, Cox praised Marvel Studios for continuing to make diversity a priority in its film and television projects.   "I'm amazed with Marvel because they are doing such a great job with diversity and representation… It means so much to me because I feel like kids with all types of cultures and disabilities deserve to have more role models that look like them, to inspire and empower the next generation," the actor explained. "I'm so grateful to have this opportunity because I am one of the examples…"   The actor also recently detailed what it was like landing the role of Echo as her first-ever acting gig, noting that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige broke the news by doing the deaf clap -- where you wave both your hands -- over Zoom. "I was like, 'What's going on?' and they said, 'Welcome to the Marvel family!'" she recalled.   Created by David Mack and Joe Quesada, Maya Lopez/Echo first appeared in Daredevil #9 (1999) and is known as one of the few Native American and deaf comic book characters. Her powers include photographic reflexes, which give her the ability to mimic the movements of other people. While Cox recently made her debut as Echo in Hawkeye, Marvel Studios already confirmed the actor will reprise the role in an upcoming spinoff series titled Echo for Disney+.   She-Hulk Reportedly Talks to MCU Boss Kevin Feige in Her Disney+ Show https://www.cbr.com/disney-plus-she-hulk-fourth-wall-kevin-feige/ https://twitter.com/shehuIkupdates/status/1468036322979979264? A new report indicates that the upcoming Tatiana Maslany-led Disney+ She-Hulk series will feature a major trope associated with the Jade Giantess.   A new report claims the upcoming She-Hulk TV series on Disney+ will see Jennifer Walters breaking the fourth wall with Marvel Studios President/Marvel Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige.   According to the She Hulk Updates Twitter account, insider KC Walsh revealed on the Straight Outta Gotham podcast that "one of the breaking moments" in the show would be Jen speaking to Feige. This follows a report from July claiming She-Hulk would see Jen break the fourth wall, much like her comic book counterpart. Fittingly, the tweet includes a picture of the cover to 1989's The Sensational She-Hulk #1, which features She-Hulk talking to the reader by threatening to come to their house and destroy their X-Men comics if they fail to "buy [her] book this time."   Little is known about She-Hulk at the time, though it's rumored that the series will set up a "World War Hulk" movie, and Feige previously confirmed it was a half-hour legal comedy consisting of 10 episodes. "It's about six hours of content," Feige said when discussing Disney+'s initial slate of Marvel content. "Sometimes that'll be six episodes, sometimes that'll be nine episodes, in the case of WandaVision. Sometimes that'll be 10 episodes. You basically have 10 half-hour episodes, which is what She-Hulk ... will be. It all varies based on the story that we're telling and only based on the story that we're telling."   It's also been rumored that Krysten Ritter and Charlie Cox will reprise their respective roles as Jessica Jones and Daredevil from the characters' self-titled Netflix series, though Cox may be playing a different version of the character.   As for the Jade Giantess herself, Tatiana Maslany recently discussed how Marvel Studios is bringing her character to life. "It's all CG... I'm in mo-cap the whole time," she explained. "I'm on platforms with mo-cap where I have a little head on the top of my head..."   These comments came after a first look at She-Hulk was revealed on Disney+ Day, though the footage only featured Jen from behind. However, it also included Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner, still in his Smart Hulk guise. The two of them will be joined by the similarly returning Abomination, played once again by Tim Roth.   FEEDBACK [51:16]   TWITTER   https://twitter.com/Starsaber_222/status/1468981733320273924 Consultant Black Adam ✵ @Starsaber_222 @LegendsofSHIELD I am now pre-emptively accepting the retcon that (if she was a SHIELD agent) Laura was Bobbi's SO and passed the Mockingbird codename down to Bobbi when she left to start a family.   E-MAIL   Oh8four to stargatepioneer   Hey all! Okay, after getting through the amazing episode 4, I have a theory, and I kinda hate myself for it.    The watch that they're after would supposedly expose the identity of someone close to Clint.  I think the person he's protecting is his wife, Laura.    Now here's why I hate this, because I'm pretty sure I know who she's going to be, and it would be a final nail in the Agents of Shield Canon-coffin.     I've headcanoned my way through so much, with the season 5 Thanos fiasco and time jumps in both the show and the movies that don't quite work work with each other, but what I won't be able to headcanon is this: Laura Barton is also an ex-spy, specifically Barbara Morse, aka Mockingbird, the wife/ex-wife of Clint in the comics and the amazing character played by Adrienne Palicki in Agents of Shield.  And she would be the first Marvel TV character to be recast and brought into the MCU completely rebooted.  But all that said, I would love it so much.  Sorry, fellow AoS Lovers, I'll see myself out.   Until next time!   OUTRO [57:37]   We would love to hear back from you! Black Widow.   This comes straight from Marvel Studios President/Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige, one of many who paid tribute to Johansson at a ceremony honoring her as the 35th recipient of the annual American Cinematheque Award. “We are already working with Scarlett on another non-Black Widow-related top-secret Marvel Studios project with her as a producer,” said Feige (per The Hollywood Reporter). He went on to call Johansson "one of the most talented, versatile and beloved actors of our time," later adding, "Working with you Scarlett has truly been one of the most memorable and rewarding collaborations of my career.”   Feige's announcement comes on the heels of Johansson settling her Black Widow lawsuit with Disney at the end of September. The Oscar-nominee took legal action against the House of Mouse in July, alleging that Disney breached her contract by giving the film a day-and-date release in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access without allowing her to renegotiate her deal. This led to a public war of words between Disney and Johansson's legal reps, with the former calling the latter's lawsuit "callous [in its] disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic."   “It was a very surreal time because, of course, the film had come out and was hugely successful and that was a big celebration. I had a baby, and that was obviously a life-changing, amazing, celebratory thing,” said Johansson, discussing the Black Widow lawsuit on the red carpet for the American Cinematheque ceremony. “In a way, that sort of buoyed me through the very uncertain, stressful time. I feel mostly very fortunate that nobody will have to go through what I went through and that it's made, I think, a positive impact in the industry and hopefully for artists and creatives' lives and livelihood.”   Black Widow, which took place between the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016) and Avengers: Infinity War (2018), served as a coda to Natasha's story in the MCU after the character sacrificed her life to help save the day in Avengers: Endgame (2019). The film also ended with a post-credits scene laying the groundwork for Natasha's fellow Red Room trainee and sister-figure, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), to return in the Hawkeye series on Disney+.   Johansson's mystery Marvel Studios venture is one of two projects she's working on with Disney at the moment, along with a movie based on the company's Tower of Terror theme park attraction. The latter, which Johansson is producing with an eye on starring in, has yet to receive a release date.   Marvel's Hawkeye: Hailee Steinfeld and Kevin Feige's Young Avengers Reaction Goes Viral https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/marvel-hawkeye-hailee-steinfeld-kevin-feige-young-avengers-reaction-meme/ https://twitter.com/Hawkmaestro21/status/1460711493163532296 Kevin Feige and Hailee Steinfeld are keeping the Young Avengers arrow in the quiver. In the Marvel Studios series premiering November 24 on Disney+, Steinfeld enters the Marvel Cinematic Universe as expert archer and Hawkeye fangirl Kate Bishop, the self-taught protege of eagle-eyed ex-Avenger Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner). During a press conference with the cast of Hawkeye, a cautious Steinfeld looked to the Marvel Studios president and producer before answering a question about Kate Bishop's future as a member of the Young Avengers, a team of young adult superheroes formed after the Avengers disassemble.    "I mean, listen, this feels so crazy to me right now just sitting here with this group of people. I'm so grateful to be a part of this show in this universe, and it's only the beginning," Steinfeld said when asked about Young Avengers. "This shows not even out, so I'm looking forward to that day."   aking on the mantle of Hawkeye, Bishop becomes a member and leader of the Young Avengers and the West Coast Avengers. Speaking exclusively to ComicBook's Phase Zero podcast, the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Apple TV+'s Dickinson star spoke out on her Marvel future after teaming with Renner's Barton in the six-episode Hawkeye.    "It's always exciting, the thought of any character you play, where it could go. And especially with something like this," Steinfeld said. "You've seen the first two episodes, and there's a whole lot more that happens in the four that are to come. That's where my head is at."    Elizabeth Olsen, whose Wanda Maximoff births two future Young Avengers in Disney+'s WandaVision, said over the summer she's not aware of plans for twins Tommy (Jett Kline) and Billy Maximoff (Julian Hilliard) to join the roster as Speed and Wiccan. Phase Four of the MCU has already added prospective members Eli Bradley (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Elijah Richardson) and Kid Loki (Loki's Jack Veal), with more on the way: America Chavez (Doctor Strange 2's Xochitl Gomez) and Cassie Lang (Ant-Man 3's Kathryn Newton).    "As a comic fan, anything in the comics is always our inspiration and our guide point. How those things come together and in what shape, it's always subverting expectations, it's always half the fun as meeting them," Feige previously told Entertainment Weekly when asked if series like WandaVision and Hawkeye are building towards Young Avengers. "But, yes, you can certainly see that Phase Four is introducing all sorts of new types of characters with the potential being endless. Now, all of us at Marvel Studios feel like Nick Fury at the end of Iron Man 1, as new actors and new performers come in and we tell them they're part of a bigger universe. They just now have to do the work required to build their audience."   Feige added: "I'm happy to say everybody that's here, certainly where I'm sitting now, is doing amazing work and [I] can't wait to show them the world."   See reactions to Feige and Steinfeld's meme-able exchange below. The two-episode premiere of Marvel's Hawkeye is November 24 on Disney+.    Disney+ confirms launch of new Marvel movie ‘Eternals' on January 12, 2022 https://streamingguider.com/eternals-disney-plus-movie-2021/ Marvel Studios' new movie Eternals (2021) was released in theaters earlier this month, but has already received a release date on Disney+. The streaming service has informed Streaming Guider's editors that the superhero movie will be available worldwide on Disney's video on demand platform starting January 12, 2022.   ➝ This announcement first appeared in Dutch on Streamwijzer.nl, the largest website about streaming in the Netherlands ✅   Superhero movie ‘Eternals' (film, 2021) will launch at Disney+ on January 12, 2022 The very first new title on Disney+ in January 2022 has been announced and it's a big one: Eternals! The Marvel film is making quite a splash with the first openly gay character and the first sex scene. In addition, the leads are played by an amazing cast including Angelina Jolie and Richard Madden.   Disney+ has confirmed to Streaming Guider's editors that there is already a date in the calendar for the release of the superhero film. Starting Wednesday, January 12, 2022, Eternals will be available in all countries where the streaming service operates. That's approximately 70 days after the theatrical release, a comparable gap as for the launch of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021).   The choice to release the movie on a Wednesday is remarkable, as movies usually appear on Disney+ on Fridays and (episodes of) series on Wednesdays. The video on demand platform seems to be experimenting to determine the best weekday for new releases. For example, Black Widow previously appeared on a Wednesday (as of October 6 for all subscribers) and the streaming service released the premiere episodes of the hit series Dopesick on Disney+ Day (Friday, November 12) in several countries.   Mixed reviews Viewers and critics seemed to disagree about the quality of Eternals after its theatrical release. On IMDb, the film scored a 6.8 out of (so far) 106,000 votes. That's fine for an average film, but not very high for a Marvel film. Yet, for example, Captain Marvel (2019 | 6.8), Thor: The Dark World (2013 | 6.8), Black Widow (2021 | 6.7) and The Incredible Hulk (2008 | 6.6) were given equal or lower marks.   At Rotten Tomatoes, Eternals does score the lowest of all Marvel films with 48% out of 359 reviews on the Tomatometer. The audience disagree, as the Audience Score actually constitutes an excellent 80% from over 5,000 votes. So take a quick look at the film as soon as it shows up on Disney+ and let us know what you think about it.   Plot, information and trailer of ‘Eternals' op Disney+ Marvel Studios' Eternals follows a group of heroes from beyond the stars who have been protecting Earth since the dawn of man. When monstrous creatures called the Deviants return, while long thought lost mysteriously, the Eternals are forced to reunite to defend humanity once again.   DISNEY+   Hawkeye: Hailee Steinfeld Compares Kate Bishop to Her Into the Spider-Verse Role https://www.cbr.com/hawkeye-hailee-steinfeld-kate-bishop-compares-gwen-stacy Hawkeye actor Hailee Steinfeld talks about playing both Kate Bishop and Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse   Actor Hailee Steinfeld has now addressed having played both Kate Bishop in Disney+'s Hawkeye and Gwen Stacy in Sony's animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse film.   In a press conference attended by CBR, Steinfeld was asked to compare her role as Gwen to her time as Bishop. "It's incredibly cool," Steinfeld said. "I feel so honored to be a part of both projects. They're characters that have similarities, but they're very different. Of course, one is animation, and one is not, and two completely different worlds. But I always love that -- I do find the characters that I have played in the past do have this sort of consistency in being these young women who are strong-minded, have a point of view, have an idea of who they are in this world and they really stop at nothing to get what they want to achieve. I think that both Gwen Stacy and Kate Bishop are proof that if you set your mind to something, you can really achieve great things."   Created by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung, Kate Bishop made her debut in 2005's Young Avengers #1, taking up the mantle of Hawkeye following Clint Barton's death. Rumors of Steinfeld's casting as Kate in Hawkeye began in 2020, with her role officially confirmed at the end of that year. Hawkeye will see her teaming up with Clint to take on the enemies he made while using the name Ronin.   An alternate version of Peter Parker's classic love interest of the same name, Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman was created by Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez. First appearing in 2014's Edge of Spider-Verse #2, Gwen hails from a reality where she was bitten by a radioactive spider instead of Peter. The Into the Spider-Verse version of the character found herself pulled into a different reality, though by the end of the movie she'd returned to her home world.   Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman, Into the Spider-Verse released in 2018. The film saw Miles Morales team up with several characters from different universes with similar powers to himself so to save New York from Kingpin. The movie did well at the box office, grossing more than $375 million worldwide against a budget of approximately $90 million. Into the Spider-Verse received praise from critics, earning a 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.   Created by Jonathan Igla, Hawkeye is slated to release Nov. 24 on Disney+. At this time, it's not clear when Steinfeld will next appear in the MCU after Hawkeye, though she is slated to appear in multiple projects. Steinfeld will reprise her role as Gwen when the first sequel to Into the Spider-Verse releases on Oct. 7, 2022. While the official title hasn't been confirmed at this time, there's some evidence the movie will be called Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.   Hawkeye's Story Arc Leads Directly Into a Future Disney+ Marvel Series https://www.cbr.com/hawkeye-leads-directly-into-echo-series Marvel boss Kevin Feige and Hawkeye director Rhys Thomas explain how the Disney+ series will lead directly into Echo, starring Alaqua Cox.   Marvel's upcoming Hawkeye Disney+ series will lead directly into the recently announced Echo series starring Alaqua Cox.   During a press conference attended by CBR, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Hawkeye director Rhys Thomas were asked about Cox's Maya Lopez/Echo and what can be expected for her in the forthcoming Disney+ series. According to Feige, Cox "came in as a cold audition and sort of read a number of different times."   "She's amazing," Feige continued. "I can't wait for people who've seen the first two episodes have seen a very brief moment. It will be fun to see the audience discover Maya over the course of this series and then in her own series later. As announced on Disney+ Day last week, the Echo series will be -- we see Maya Lopez go from the end of this series into that series will be the next direct link."   Maya Lopez/Echo, a deaf Native American superhero, will be introduced in Hawkeye, which wrapped filming in April and will premiere on the streaming service in November, though the nature of her role in the show currently remains unknown. It was reported in March that the Echo spinoff series was in development, with Etan and Emily Cohen writing and producing the series. While it had been reported on for some time, Echo was officially confirmed by Marvel Studios and Disney during Disney+ Day with the release of the series' official logo.   Thomas, replying to Feige, said that Cox "has amazing determination." Regarding her audition process, Thomas went on to say, "She never performed before, but seemed completely unfazed when we came back. We really sort of put her through the wringer. But she never once botched and has kind of walked into this universe like she should've always been there."   In a recent promo for the upcoming Hawkeye series, audiences were introduced to the MCU's latest villain, Fra Fee's The Clown. Cox's Maya Lopez/Echo was seen alongside him, with both characters seemingly holding Clint Barton hostage before he is rescued by Haylee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop. While Maya is typically a hero in the comics, it was unclear in the trailer why she would be working with The Clown, though it could have something to do with her adopted father, Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, in the comics.   Created by David Mack and Joe Quesada, Maya Lopez/Echo first appeared in Daredevil #9 in 1999 and is one of the few Native American and deaf characters in comics overall. Similar to the Avengers villain Taskmaster, Echo's powers include photographic reflexes, giving her the ability to perfectly mimic the movements of other people. Echo was first introduced to comics as a supporting character for Daredevil and it's speculated that her involvement in Hawkeye could be a way for Matthew Murdock/Daredevil to officially enter the MCU. It has also been reported that both Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld will reprise their Hawkeye roles in Echo as well.   WandaVision's 'Agatha All Along' Conjures Up a Grammy Nomination https://www.cbr.com/marvel-wandavision-agatha-all-along-grammy-nomination/ The song "Agatha All Along" from Marvel Studios' debut Disney+ original series WandaVision is up for an award at the 64th GRAMMY Awards in January.   Per the official list of nominees for the 2022 GRAMMYs, "Agatha All Along" -- written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez -- has been nominated for Best Song Written For Visual Media. The fan-favorite track was brought to life by the Lopezes, featuring Kathryn Hahn, Eric Bradley, Greg Whipple, Jasper Randall and Gerald White.   Going up against "Agatha All Along" in the category of Best Song Written For Visual Media are "All Eyes On Me" by Bo Burnham (from Inside), "All I Know So Far" by P!nk (from P!NK: All I Know So Far), "Fight For You" by H.E.R. (from Judas and the Black Messiah), "Here I Am (Singing My Way Home)" by Jennifer Hudson (from Respect) and "Speak Now" by Leslie Odom Jr. (from One Night in Miami...).   WandaVision premiered on Disney+ earlier this year on Jan. 15 to kick off Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series' seventh episode, "Breaking the Fourth Wall" -- which aired on Feb. 19 -- revealed that Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision's (Paul Bettany) nosy neighbor, Agnes (Kathryn Hahn), was actually the classic Marvel Comics character Agatha Harkness, and that she was the one who had been disrupting Wanda and Vision's seemingly peaceful life in Westview.   This revelation sets up the musical number "Agatha All Along," performed by Hahn as Agatha. On Feb. 24 -- a few days after "Breaking the Fourth Wall" initially dropped -- "Agatha All Along" was added to music streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music and Pandora. The song had nearly broken 1.8 million plays on Spotify by the time WandaVision's finale (aptly titled "The Series Finale") hit Disney+ on March 5.   WandaVision leads directly into the upcoming Marvel Studios film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which hits theaters on May 6, 2022. The film will see Olsen reprise her role as the newly-christened Scarlet Witch. Meanwhile, Hahn is set to return as Agatha Harkness in Agatha: House of Harkness, a spinoff series Marvel Studios is producing for Disney+. Hahn's deal with Marvel also reportedly calls for additional appearances across both film and television.   The 64th GRAMMY Awards will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Monday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. ET.   ‘Hawkeye' EP Trinh Tran on Casting Hailee Steinfeld and the Influence of ‘Better Call Saul' https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-features/hawkeye-movie-tv-show-marvel-disney-1235050780/ The Marvel executive reflects on why Jeremy Renner's project was moved from film to TV: "The big question was, 'How are we going to fit all of this into a two-hour timeframe?'"   Hawkeye and Avengers: Endgame executive producer Trinh Tran never doubted whether Clint Barton/Hawkeye's Endgame storyline warranted further exploration. Instead, it was a question of which medium was best suited to tell the street-level story of Jeremy Renner's Avenger and his quest to get home in time for Christmas. Tran, along with her fellow Marvel Studios producers, quickly realized that the Hawkeye project would benefit creatively if it transitioned from the feature film side of the studio to the newly-established Disney+ side.   “We decided to move Hawkeye from the feature side over to the Disney+ side for [creative flexibility],” Tran tells The Hollywood Reporter. “The big question was, ‘How are we going to fit all of this into a two-hour timeframe? We have an Avenger whose backstory we haven't quite had time to explore yet . We also have to introduce a new character [Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop], as well as allow enough time for them to bond and create that special dynamic that everybody finds so appealing in the comics.' So, in moving it over, it allowed us six hours, three times as much time, which really gave us the creative flexibility we needed to tell the story.”   In September 2019, when Hailee Steinfeld was reported to be playing Barton's protégé Kate Bishop on Hawkeye, fans rejoiced unanimously until Steinfeld herself cast doubt on the idea. This led to some speculation that the actor's existing contract with Apple TV+'s Dickinson may have caused a snag in the proceeding. However, Tran was always confident that Steinfeld would be involved as Bishop.   “When [Hailee] came in to meet, we knew right off the bat that she was the person we had been looking for all these years,” Tran shares. “It was just a matter of we couldn't quite talk about her involvement all this time. So the speculation in terms of whether she was in or not was just us trying to figure out how we can carry out the series during this time and get it delivered in time for this holiday season.”   Prior to Black Widow‘s release, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige referenced Breaking Bad prequel/sequel, Better Call Saul, as an influence on Widow‘s prequel storytelling. Then Marvel Studios hired former Better Call Saul writer Marion Dayre to lead the writers' room for Echo, which stars Alaqua Cox in the eponymous role. (Hawkeye will first introduce the character.) Furthermore, Better Call Saul‘s Tony Dalton also plays the enigmatic role of Jack Duquesne on Hawkeye, and Tran confirms that Better Call Saul was a key factor in Dalton's casting.   “I absolutely love Tony Dalton from Better Call Saul!” Tran says. “When we were talking about who would be great as Jack Duquesne, Tony obviously came to mind because he is incredible in that series. I can't say much about his character in [Hawkeye], but as you can see in the earlier episodes, there's a quality in Jack that will hopefully intrigue people into figuring out what's happening.”   In a recent conversation with THR, Tran also explains why the decision was made to make Hawkeye a bit more lighthearted than previous MCU series.   Since WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki each explored some heavy subject matters and themes at times, was Hawkeye always designed to be something a bit lighter for the holidays? Was Hawkeye meant to be a response to those shows?   Well, as we were brainstorming and talking about the story a couple of years ago, we were trying to figure out how we can set this series apart from Wandavision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki. And one way was to set it around the holiday times. Out of all of the characters, it made sense for Clint Barton's story to be told around this time of year because he's a family guy. He's one of the few Avengers with kids, and after the fallout of what happened in Endgame — where he lost his kids for five years, became Ronin and got them back — this is the first Christmas that he's going to be spending with his family. And the big question of the series is if he's going to be able to make it home in time in order to do so. So there's that big weight that he's trying to figure out as he's stuck elsewhere. He's trying to deal with something that has put him on this mission and he has to figure out how to get out of it. And in terms of the lightheartedness, we wanted to show a different side of Clint that we haven't seen before, in comparison to all of the Avengers movies that he's in. And I find it so much more interesting that there is a version of Clint that is a little bit more humorous from the Matt Fraction [comic book] run. So we wanted to pull a little bit of that into the series, and we thought that Kate Bishop, out of everybody, was the perfect candidate in order to do so.   Everyone celebrated when Hailee Steinfeld's casting was reported, but then there was a period of uncertainty as to whether it would actually happen. Were you always confident that things would work out?   Yes, we love Hailee. When we were talking about who would be the perfect candidate for Kate Bishop, names were thrown into the hat, and we all loved Hailee. We think she's tremendously talented. When she came in to meet, we knew right off the bat that she was the person we had been looking for all these years, once we had talked about who this person is and what she can bring to the table. Hailee did an incredible job, and we were all very happy with the onscreen Kate Bishop that she delivered. It was just a matter of we couldn't quite talk about her involvement all this time. So the speculation in terms of whether she was in or not was just us trying to figure out how we can carry out the series during this time and get it delivered in time for this holiday season.   Kevin Feige has referenced a certain show as a touchstone for Black Widow‘s prequel storytelling. You also hired one of its writers, Marion Dayre, as the lead writer of Echo. And now, with Hawkeye‘s casting of Tony Dalton, is it safe to say that Marvel Studios is rather fond of Better Call Saul?   I absolutely love Tony Dalton from Better Call Saul! When we were talking about who would be great as Jack Duquesne, Tony obviously came to mind because he is incredible in that series. He brings a different tone to this particular character that people haven't quite seen yet. I can't say much about his character in the series, but as you can see in the earlier episodes, there's a quality in Jack that will hopefully intrigue people into figuring out what's happening.   What I love about Marvel Studios' TV shows is that they're able to devote more time to character development than a two-hour movie can. From your vantage point, are the TV shows already making your feature directors' lives easier since they don't have to squeeze six episodes of character work into their two-hour runtimes?   It allows us the creative flexibility to explore the characters a lot more because we have the time and space to do so. We decided to move Hawkeye from the feature side over to the Disney+ side for that very reason. The big question was, “How are we going to fit all of this into a two-hour timeframe? We have an Avenger whose backstory we haven't quite had time to explore yet . We also have to introduce a new character, as well as allow enough time for them to bond and create that special dynamic that everybody finds so appealing in the comics.” So, in moving it over, it allowed us six hours, three times as much time, which really gave us the creative flexibility we needed to tell the story. But challenges come with it as well. We have a process at Marvel and we try to maintain that same process both on the feature side and the TV series side. We treat it as one process that works well for us. But things happen faster on the TV end. We have the same amount of time that we normally do on the feature end, but we have three times as much content that we have to deliver in a shorter time span.   So I've only got a few seconds left, but I have to say that I'm fascinated by the Marvel Studios Parliament, which counts you as a member [along with Stephen Broussard, Eric Carroll, Nate Moore and Brad Winderbaum]. Do you each have a special blazer with a crest on it? Is there a secret handshake? How do you signify your membership?   (Laughs.) That's great, actually. I'm going to go back to my parliament colleagues and go, “We should definitely come up with a handshake of some sort.” If there is a blazer, I didn't get one. (Laughs.) Can you call Kevin Feige and ask where my blazer is?   I'll make some calls!   (Laughs.) But that is actually a great idea. I'm going to go back to the other parliament members and say that we should come up with a secret code or something. WDW Radio # 519 - Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Interview Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War is the culmination of 10 years of films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And the journey that began with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk led to a string of blockbuster films that has not only defined the superhero genre, but has raised the bar of large-scale storytelling. I sat down with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and discussed not just his personal journey from the kid in Jersey who loved the movies, but the the filmmaking process of bringing these comics and characters to life, meaningful storylines, the characters, tone, process, as well as the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's a fascinating look at the mindset, challenges, opportunities, motivations, and process. It's more than a conversation just about creating superhero movies, but a personal inspirational journey as well.
