The Washington Roundtable will be back next week. In the meantime, we're pleased to bring you the Season 2 premiere of “Master Plan,” the award-winning investigative podcast from The Lever. In its second season, titled “The Kingmakers,” the host, David Sirota, a former speechwriter for Bernie Sanders and an Oscar-nominated co-writer for “Don't Look Up,” examines the decades-long building of an all-powerful American Presidency. This episode explores how Richard Nixon's secret expansion of the Vietnam War, along with his attempts to seize the power of the purse from Congress sparked a constitutional crisis and a backlash, setting the stage for many of the legal battles that dominate today's political landscape.  We hope you'll enjoy it. David Sirota joins Taya Graham and Stephen Janis to expose the enormous financial incentives shaping Democratic politics and why political consultants can accumulate “generational wealth” even when their candidates lose. David Sirota explains how consultants profit from massive television-ad purchases, how billionaire-funded super PACs influence the candidates and policies voters are offered, and how the language of “moderation” and “electability” is used to undermine progressive and populist challengers. We examine the consequences of legalized political corruption: Washington's silence on America's healthcare crisis, the widening gulf between voters and their representatives, and the 50-year campaign to transform elections into auctions while concentrating power in the presidency.David Sirota is the founder of the investigative news organization The Lever, a former speechwriter for Bernie Sanders, an Oscar-nominated co-creator of the story for the movie Don't Look Up, and the producer of the podcast series Master Plan.Additional links/info:David Sirota and Jared Jacang Maher co-authored book, Master Plan: The Hidden Plot to Legalize Corruption in AmericaThe Lever's website, Instagram, and podcast series, Master planCredits:Production: Stephen Janis, Taya GrahamWritten by: Stephen JanisStudio Production: Cameron GranadinoPost-Production: Stephen Janis, David HebdenBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-real-news-podcast--2952221/support.Help us continue producing radically independent news and in-depth analysis by following us and becoming a monthly sustainer.Follow us on:Bluesky: @therealnews.comFacebook: The Real News NetworkTwitter: @TheRealNewsYouTube: @therealnewsInstagram: @therealnewsnetworkBecome a member and join the Supporters Club for The Real News Podcast today!

The Karnataka Government has been championing a project to build a nearly 10,000 acre Live-Work-Play greenfield city on its outskirts in Bidadi, which has become a political flashpoint as farmers oppose land acquisition. All our mega cities seem to be saturated, overpopulated and congested. As a country we seem to be looking at ways of decongesting them. As Bengaluru seeks to embark on a similar trajectory as other mega cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad which have experimented building satellite towns, we ask whether building such greenfield towns on the peripheries of these cities, really the way ahead. To discuss this, urban planning, policy and governance expert Champaka Rajgopal, Fellow, Centre for Policy Research, Delhi, joins us on the In Focus podcast. She brings over 25 years of experience of having worked with national, state and local governments in India and abroad on urban policy, planning and governance. Marvel Studios has finally dropped the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, and there's A LOT to unpack! In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we break down every major reveal, hidden detail, Easter egg, theory, and shocking moment from the brand-new Avengers: Doomsday trailer. From Doctor Doom's mysterious plan to Thor's long-awaited return as a serious leader, we're diving deep into everything Marvel Studios has shown us and what it could mean for the future of the MCU. Is Steve Rogers really back... or are we looking at an evil multiversal variant? Could an evil Captain America actually wield Mjolnir? What are Incursions, and why are they so important to Marvel Comics and the Multiverse Saga? We answer all of those questions and much more. In This Episode We Discuss: Our full Avengers: Doomsday trailer reaction Doctor Doom's possible motivations and master plan Why Thor finally feels like a true leader again Steve Rogers' shocking appearance Is this the real Captain America or a Variant? Could an evil Steve Rogers lift Mjolnir? Marvel Comics history behind that possibility What Incursions are and why they're so dangerous Hidden Easter eggs throughout the trailer Characters that are noticeably absent Which heroes and villains we still expect to appear The trailer's biggest action scenes Our favorite moments Our biggest concerns Is Marvel relying on nostalgia... or building something genuinely special? While we're incredibly excited for Avengers: Doomsday, we also discuss the possibility that Marvel Studios could be leaning a little too heavily into nostalgia. Can the MCU deliver another Avengers: Endgame-level event, or will this become another example of fan service outweighing storytelling? We explore both sides of the debate. BONUS DISCUSSION: Clayface Trailer Before wrapping up, we also react to the brand-new Clayface trailer from DC Studios! We discuss: Clayface's comic book origin Why we're excited about the body horror direction The revenge-driven story How faithful the movie appears to be Why Clayface could become one of DC's biggest surprises Between Avengers: Doomsday and Clayface, comic book fans have a lot to look forward to, and we can't wait to see where both Marvel Studios and DC Studios go next. She shortened her commute first, then went part-time, then, when the pandemic made her last part-time job untenable, took the final step. What followed was less a plan than experiments guided by whatever sparked joy. These "experiments" included playwriting classes, a first novel written on the train, and a book-coach certification that flipped a switch. Six novels and a nonfiction guide for doubting creatives later, Amy has built a life that pays in confidence and craft more than dollars, and insists that trade is no downgrade. She believes that culture rewards money, title, and productivity so completely that anything creative reads as indulgence, something to feel guilty about squeezing in around "real" obligations. Reading a book, listening to music, mastering a soufflé. These are creative acts whether or not monetized, and treating unmonetized creativity as worthless has it backwards. Her book, Wrangling the Doubt Monster, does not promise to cure self-doubt; it normalizes it, insisting doubt can ride along without driving the car. Stephanie and Kevin are all about the idea that retirement rarely trips people up financially. It is the identity vacuum of "who am I once the job title disappears" that catches people off guard, and creativity is where many will find their answer!   Key Topics: From "Have To" to "Want To": Redefining Retirement (04:28) Overcoming the Guilt of Taking Time for Yourself (10:08) Normalizing Creative Self-Doubt (12:42) Permission to Experiment (and Fail) Without a Master Plan (22:02) Creativity as Therapy (28:38) Stephanie and Kevin's Wrap Up (31:28)   Resources: https://amywrites.live/ Take Back Retirement Episode 87: Cultivating Creative Connections for Lifelong Wellness with Claire Waite Brown   If you like what you've been hearing, we invite you to subscribe on your favorite platform and leave us a review. TRUMP'S MASTER PLAN? The Tariff Strategy They Called "Economic Suicide" Could Make America Richer Than Ever

Hard Asset Money Show

President Trump's surprise announcement of a 50% tariff on Canadian imports has ignited fierce debate across financial markets, political circles, and international trade. Critics warn of higher prices, inflation, and the possibility of a damaging trade war. But is there another side to the story that many in the mainstream media aren't discussing? In this episode of On The Record with Christian Briggs, Christian breaks down why these tariffs may represent something far larger than a simple tax on imported goods. Instead, he argues they are part of a broader economic strategy designed to reshape America's trade relationships, rebuild domestic manufacturing, strengthen national security, and force trading partners back to the negotiating table.Christian explains why he believes decades of uneven trade agreements have placed American workers, farmers, and manufacturers at a disadvantage while foreign competitors benefited from subsidized exports and restrictive trade policies. Using Canada as the latest example, he examines controversial barriers involving dairy, agriculture, and other industries that he argues have created an unbalanced economic relationship. The discussion also tackles one of the biggest concerns surrounding tariffs: inflation. Rather than viewing temporary price increases as a permanent burden, Christian compares them to an investment—accepting short-term economic discomfort in exchange for long-term gains through stronger domestic production, reduced trade deficits, and expanded export opportunities. He also explains why foreign manufacturers often absorb part of the tariff themselves by lowering prices in order to remain competitive, reducing the impact on American consumers. Perhaps most intriguing is Christian's analysis of President Trump's negotiating style. Drawing comparisons to previous international disputes, he argues that aggressive tariff announcements are often less about collecting revenue and more about creating leverage. By raising the stakes early, the administration seeks to accelerate negotiations that ultimately produce more favorable trade agreements for the United States rather than prolonged economic conflict. Whether you view tariffs as economic protectionism or strategic diplomacy, this episode explores one of the most consequential questions facing the global economy today: Are these policies risking America's future—or laying the foundation for a new era of economic strength?

According to a 2025 survey, nearly one in three people believes in Bigfoot: that fantastical, forest-dwelling hominid, famously captivating yet camera-shy. And interest is growing. But why? What does science have to say about our contemporary concept of Sasquatch? And how would anyone know what a “Bigfoot call” actually sounds like? Grab your night-vision goggles and join us as journalist Laura Krantz, host of the podcast Wild Thing and author of The Search for Sasquatch, tracks footprints on a journey that will tantalize true believers and skeptics alike. You'll hear early Indigenous stories about Bigfoot-like creatures; learn about the Northern California hoax that first sparked widespread interest in the 1950s; and get a firsthand account of the modern-day Bigfoot-hunting expedition Krantz joined in the wilds of Oregon, where she learned to use apples as bait and distinguish between Bigfoot howls, snorts, and roars. Proof may be elusive, but in its place you'll find mythology, anthropology, pop culture—and the knowledge that sometimes unsolved mysteries are the best kind.  Bigfoot hideouts we'll trek to: Six Rivers National Forest, California China Flats Bigfoot Museum, Willow Creek, California Mount Hood National Forest, Oregon Olympic National Park, Washington State Lake Quinault, Washington State Sasquatch Outpost, Bailey, Colorado Guest: Laura Krantz Journalist Laura Krantz believes that exploring the unknown can help us better understand ourselves. In the first season of her acclaimed podcast, Wild Thing, she chased after Sasquatch. Season 2 found her looking skyward for extraterrestrial life. The deeply reported series garnered praise from Scientific American, Rolling Stone, and Esquire. The Atlantic called it “a mind-altering experience” and twice named it one of the year's best podcasts. The show is also the inspiration for a series of kids books, including Do You Believe In Magic?, Is There Anybody Out There?, and The Search for Sasquatch. In addition to Wild Thing, Laura has worked on multiple award-winning podcasts, including Master Plan, Blood Vines, and The Syndicate. Laura's prior experience includes close to a decade of editing and producing at NPR in Washington, D.C., and at KPCC in Los Angeles. An Idaho native who grew up camping in the woods, Laura now lives in Colorado—conveniently close to prime Sasquatch territory.
