Colorado Springs City Council just threw their "inclusive" mask out the window, refusing to acknowledge Pride Month after three years, all because a Satanic group dared to utter "Hail Satan" at their parade. This isn't just about two words; it's a chilling display of hypocrisy and religious bigotry, driven by social media outrage that pushed a government body to discriminate against an entire community. While claiming to avoid "identity-based gestures," they weaponize religion against the LGBTQ+ community, proving that for some, the only identity that truly matters is their own narrow, Christian one. It's a bleak reminder that the fight for secularism and equality is far from over, especially when politicians cave to fear-mongering and pretend their religious intolerance isn't a political act. They demonize a non-theistic group for satire, while simultaneously harming queer individuals by making them feel "othered" and unsafe.News Source: Colorado Springs City Council Members Lash Out Over Pride Parade's "Hail Satan" Message By Hemant Mehta for The Friendly Atheist June 25, 2025

Sharif reflects on his own journey of surviving sexual assault, the importance of creating inclusive literary platforms like the Rainbow Lit Fest, and the dangers of cancel culture. With references to activists like Santa Khurai, Harish Iyer, and artist Lady Gaga, this episode blends courage, critique, and hope.Key Takeaways:Caste remains a significant issue within LGBTQIA+ spaces in India.Safety and the right to live freely are central to queer rights.Equity is a more nuanced goal than mere equality.Bisexuality faces misunderstanding and invisibility in queer politics. The ban on LGBTQ+ blood donation is rooted in stigma, not scienceTransgender rights are progressing slowly, with many challenges ahead.Corporate allyship often lacks genuine commitment beyond Pride Month.Cancel culture can hinder constructive dialogue within queer communities.Legal barriers still exist for blood donation by LGBTQ+ individuals.Creating inclusive literary spaces is essential for diverse voices.Survivors of sexual assault, especially queer men, face unique challenges in speaking out.True inclusion requires a 360° approach, involving politics, law, corporates, and community engagement beyond symbolic gestures.Representation in media and literature is growing, with queer narratives now visible in poetry, films, fashion, and public spaces.Queer joy, community, and cultural expression are vital, offering safe spaces and solidarity in an often hostile environment.Connect with UsMohua Chinappa: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mohua-chinappa/The Mohua Show: https://www.themohuashow.com/Connect with Sharif D RangnekarSharif D Rangnekar: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sharif-d-rangnekar-3867208/Follow UsYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@TheMohuaShowLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/themohuashow/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/themohuashowInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/themohuashow/For any other queries EMAILhello@themohuashow.comChapters:00:00 Introduction  01:05 Caste, Queerness, and Inclusion06:47 Marriage Equality vs. Safety12:11 Equality vs. Equity in Queer Rights17:30 Understanding Bisexuality in Queer Politics25:50 Trans Rights and Slow Legal Progress31:13 Corporate Engagement with LGBTQ+ Rights35:19 The Complexities of Cancel Culture39:22 Challenging Stigmas in Blood Donation Laws45:06 Creating Inclusive Literary Spaces52:25 Courage in Sharing Personal Trauma58:02 Imagining a Joyful Future for Queer CommunitiesDisclaimerThe views expressed by our guests are their own. As we cross over from June's Pride Month into July's Disability Pride, let's just say it is a summer of PRIDe with us here. This week on Outlook we're talking about the connections, the intersectionalities between those celebrating LGBTQIA2S+ and celebrating living with disability. Yes, we know that the idea of “feeling proud” of living with disability (in this society which stigmatises anything not able-bodied) sounds strange to some, but here we're trying to destigmatize the whole thing by refusing to let circumstances out of our control dominate our lives. We're sharing first about our Friday night excursion out in London and to the home of the host who did a music show (first before us Monday mornings and then directly after). Bernie Koenig (of From Bach to Rock and then Bernie's Jazz and Blues) is a musician himself, from way back, and hosts jams (out of his basement) where he invites anyone to come to watch some jazz/rock/blues playing. So we went, though Oyster the guide dog didn't take to the loud drums, guitars, and trumpet so co-host Kerry and BF Barry sat with her just outside on the patio. It turned out it was a nice evening for everyone that way and Brian (who played trumpet briefly from back in high school) enjoyed seeing Bernie in his element. Bernie's wife, supporting him from the back row, waving and smiling to him was described to us. We then go on to discuss some of the local music shows co-host Brian has been out to lately, some of the navigational issues he dealt with to travel to said shows, as well as the benefits of supporting his community and getting to hear some of the music he so enjoys. And sister/co-host Kerry has what she's coined a soft announcement on the audio description collaborative team she's a member of, Picture This, and she shares about the two recent PBS American Masters documentaries they've produced extended AD for. She explains more about the docs which includes one on political theorist and scholar Hannah Arendt: Facing Tyranny, as she also explains more about what extended audio description is. It's another mixed bag show where we look back on our guests for June including Linsay Lusyne of Vision Loss Travel, friend Zoe Rae Espinoza on blind gaming, and Marie Elise who travels as Beyond My Blur. Plus some podcast recs as we head toward our 300's episode sometime in the weeks ahead. Here's a link to the Arendt documentary, though we do talk on this one about how a VPN was needed to view it here in Canada by the person who did the quality control )QC) on it: https://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmasters/hannah-arendt-documentary/36135/

As 2025's Pride Month comes to a close, Campaign reflects on how the global DEI rollback has impacted the way brands show up for LGBTQIA+ communities.Gay Times' chief executive Tag Warner said the news outlet has lost £5m in ad revenue this year due to eight of its top ten advertisers pulling their contracts, and Thinkbox's head of marketing Chris Dunne, who is also chief executive of Outvertising, also commented on the noticeable drawback by brands. While it might on the surface seem like the changes to DEI this year have impacted brands' support for LGBTQ+ communities, the drawback actually begun years before, and this year was more a "nail in the coffin".Hosted by tech editor Lucy Shelley, Campaign's media editor Beau Jackson and deputy creativity and culture editor Charlotte Rawlings discuss what has led to brands stepping back, as well as highlighting some of the work that continues to celebrate Pride and raise awareness to wider LGBTQ+ issues. This includes TransActual UK's "Third toilet" by BBH London, Tesco's internal policies and sponsorship of Pride, Lush donating 75% of profits from the Liberation bath bomb and Marks and Spencer's partnership with AKT.Further reading:Pride needs action, not alliesAmnesty Pride campaign promotes bracelets as 'badge of allyship'E45 unveils ad highlighting trans skin that won C4 diversity awardDo LGBTQ+ PR pros think brands will ‘show up' for Pride 2025? Johnson was one of the key founders of the gay liberation movement after the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, but it's taken years for her to receive recognition. On this special Pride Month edition of “Meet the BIPOC Press”, we're celebrating Marsha's life and legacy with two activists carrying her story forward. A new biography from Penguin House, “Marsha: The Joy and Defiance of Marsha P. Johnson” by our guest, Tourmaline traces Marsha's working-class beginnings to her work with sex workers and street activists, to her death in 1992. Qween Jean is a self-described “spiritual daughter” of Marsha and the founder of Black Trans Liberation. Explore how mainstream media coverage once excluded Marsha, and what's changed since then. We also unpack the media's coverage of transphobia and the recent ruling from Tennessee that restricts gender-affirming care for minors. In the face of extreme backlash and repression, how are artists and activists reframing media narratives for queer and trans liberation?“A lot of trans and queer people, especially here in New York City, that are asylum seekers that have had to leave other countries from persecution now find themselves in a place of purgatory . . . They can't even go to get a hormone shot because they're afraid. What if ICE is literally outside waiting for us?” - Qween Jean“Marsha knew that these conditions didn't get to determine how she felt about herself. No court, no Supreme Court, no police officer, no governor, no president . . . She was creating the conditions to remind herself and each other that we too get to feel beautiful and know our value firmly.” - TourmalineGuests:•  Qween Jean: Founder, Black Trans Liberation; Human Rights Activist & Costume Designer•  Tourmaline: Artist; Author, MARSHA: The Joy and Defiance of Marsha P. Closing out another fabulous Pride Month, we're taking a look at someone who's always been a friend and ally to the LGBTQ+ community - Cyndi Lauper. Born in New York, in the early 50s, Cyndi feels out-of-step with her surroundings. Raised in a home with an abusive stepfather, she escapes and sets out on her own. But to do what? After failing in a series of unfulfilling odd jobs, Cyndi decides to follow her first love - music. After a shaky start with a couple of failed bands, Cyndi goes solo. Thanks to that one-of-a-kind voice of hers, and unique technicolor appearance (just in time for advent of MTV), Cyndi Lauper's singing career reaches the stratosphere. But life at the top of the record biz just isn't enough for her. She realizes there are way more important things to fight for - her integrity as an artist, and disenfranchised people everywhere. Turns out, these were the “true colors” of the girl who just wanted to have fun. In turn - she cemented her legacy forever. You can follow Brooke and Aricia on socials at @brookesiffrinn and @ariciaskidmorewilliamss. On this installment of the Redacted History Podcast we take a look back at the life and accomplishments of Harvey Milk, a Navy Veteran and the first openly gay man to hold political office in America. We also look back at his untimely death, how that unfolded, and his legacy. June 18, 2025 – The Trevor Project received official notice yesterday that the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is initiating the closure of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline's LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services program within 30 days, effective July 17, 2025. Jaymes Black, CEO of The Trevor Project, released the following statement in response: “We received official notice that the Trump administration has ordered the closure of The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline's LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services program, effective July 17, 2025. This means that, in 30 short days, this program that has provided life-saving services to more than 1.3 million LGBTQ+ young people will no longer be available for those who need it. “This is devastating, to say the least. Suicide prevention is about people, not politics. The administration's decision to remove a bipartisan, evidence-based service that has effectively supported a high-risk group of young people through their darkest moments is incomprehensible. The fact that this news comes to us halfway through Pride Month is callous – as is the administration's choice to remove the ‘T' from the acronym ‘LGBTQ+' in their announcement. Transgender people can never, and will never, be erased. “Congress can still act to reverse this fatal decision. We are asking everyone to join the overwhelming public support for evidence-based crisis services, and urge Congress to act. Learn more by visiting TheTrevorProject.org/ActNow. In September 2022, The Trevor Project began providing its best-practice crisis services to LGBTQ+ youth through the 988 Lifeline. When individuals contact the 988 via phone, text, or chat, they are given the option to “press 3” or “reply PRIDE” to be connected with counselors trained specifically to assist LGBTQ+ contacts up to age 25. Initially, The Trevor Project served as the sole provider for the pilot phase of 988 LGBTQ+ youth specialized services, before transitioning to serve as one of seven centers that currently make up the LGBTQ+ Youth Subnetwork. The Trevor Project serves nearly 50% of the LGBTQ+ youth specialized services' contact volume. In 2024 alone, The Trevor Project directly served more than 231,000 crisis contacts, and trained and supported nearly 250 crisis counselors and operational support staff to support the 988 Lifeline. Previously, the LGBTQ+ Youth Subnetwork received up to $50 million in restricted federal funds to provide these life-saving services. The Trevor Project's supporters in the House and Senate advocated for the continued funding for these life-saving programs. The organization launched a petition to demand lawmakers protect LGBTQ+ youth and an Emergency Lifeline fundraising campaign. On June 2, 2025, more than 100 entertainment icons – across film, music, TV, sports, theater, comedy, fashion, culinary arts, and book publishing – joined The Trevor Project's sign-on letter to protect federal funding for LGBTQ+ youth suicide prevention. If you or someone you know needs help or support, The Trevor Project's trained crisis counselors are available 24/7 at 1-866-488-7386, via chat at TheTrevorProject.org/Get-Help, or by texting START to 678678. Next, the Trump administration seems to be putting in the work, especially considering the August recess is approaching. This year's Pride Month is at an end and it is clear that the activists have lost significant momentum. War in the Middle East and riots in Los Anglos helped to wound a cultural movement which was already struggling from overexposure and a string of conservative victories.
