Education, learning and up-skilling are perceived in different ways. Some see it as a prerequisite, like following the instructions before the actual game begins. While others see it as a way of evolution, constantly sharpening their axes, and striving to grow at every checkpoint. Whatever school of thought you're into, it is evident that the modern world demands people who continuously update their knowledge and leave room for growth even at their success. We're excited to welcome Ajinkya Potdar, Capital Placement's very own Senior Operations Manager, to speak more about the topic and walk us through the importance of up-skilling in an ever-changing world. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thecareergrowthpodcast/message

Hello, PODience. If you haven't heard, we've hit a big milestone for our podcast and for our team: we've just reached our 50th episode and we're so excited to share Act 2 of that episode with you! Precious Blake, a guest with heart and a focus on community and togetherness through art and interpersonal connection, is featured in Episode 50: “Speed of Trust.” A visual journalist and archivist who moonlights as an illustrator and collagist, Blake is also the Senior Operations Manager at the Village of Arts and Humanities, and organization in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, that strives for equitable revitalization of community through art activation. In Act 1 of this episode, Precious spoke about her creative work, her process and how her personal emotions fuel her art-making and artist hand, making her emotional state very present in her creative work. The questions from Act 1—What does care look like? If we were to think of building a world that leads with a care sensibility, what could we create? How do we, as artists, cultivate a sustainable existence in which we can thrive?—are still present, but this conversation takes a deeper dive into more nuanced issues like: How have the last two years shaped our brain space and creative approach? As arts administrators, just how much do we center Teaching Artists' voices? What role do Teaching Artists play in reshaping the landscape of arts and cultural organizations? What does it look and feel like to “move” complex emotion out of our body? Listen to this thoughtful conversation to find out the answers!
Foreign Nationals make up 11% of a total prison population in the UK. HMP Wandsworth has a significant Foreign National population, so much so that in 2021 they mobilised a Foreign National Service, now delivered by Catch22. In most prisons there is no specific support for these individuals, despite their needs being complex and the need for specialist knowledge and support – from language barriers to understanding their rights, support for this cohort is particularly urgent when could face deportation, after spending much of their lives in the UK. To discuss the challenges UK prisons face with Foreign National offenders, the impact these challenges have on individuals themselves, and how the justice system can address both, we are joined by Geoff Smith, Director at BEST – the Befriending and Support Team for Foreign Nationals, and Naomi McGrath, Senior Operations Manager in Catch22's Justice Hub. The episode is hosted by Catch22's Josie Cochrane. Catch-22.org.uk #Catch22Minutes
Hello, PODience. This is a big milestone for our podcast and for our team: we've just reached our 50th episode and we're so excited to share it with you! In their chat, Courtney asks Precious to talk about her creative work, her process, which, Blake states, always “begins with a burning question” and is enhanced and augmented by research and personal interviews. Precious also talks about how her personal emotions fuel her art-making and how her artist hand, which she calls the third act of every piece she makes, really affects the product, making her emotional state very present in her creative work. Blake leads with people and emotions first and makes it part of her mission to manifest a better world through compassion and art, striving to trend away from the indoctrination and absorption of white supremacist practices ingrained in our daily lives. Questions asked in this episode: What does care look like? If we were to think of building a world that leads with a care sensibility, what could we create? How do we, as artists, cultivate a sustainable existence in which we can thrive? You'll have to listen to this thoughtful conversation to find out the answers!

Erin Cuellar is Director of Operations at STERIS, a manufacturer of medical devices. At the time of the interview, she was senior operations manager at the same company, and her role was essentially that of a plant manager. Her responsibilities included supervising teams, managing KPIs, and maintaining quality controls. Erin comes from a very different world than I do. She dropped out of college, worked at a local manufacturing site, joined an apprenticeship program, got her journeyman's card which is sort of like a full license to practice in the trades, and moved from state to state for employment in manufacturing. In the course of 13 years, she moved between five different states. At least one of the moves was the result of a plant shutdown thanks to outsourcing. But Erin and her family, which includes a husband and three children were fully resilient in transitioning to new homes, new jobs, and new schools. In fact, about a year after our interview, Erin moved to Pennsylvania to become Director of Operations at her company. I became interested in the trades in recent years after noticing and following the works of Mike Rowe and Andrew Yang, who both highlight a change in the mix of American jobs available as well as people willing to undertake those jobs. In the US, there just seem to be fewer opportunities in the trades sector, and even fewer young people looking to enter those fields. Mike Rowe looks to encourage the youths to get into these areas, whereas Andrew Yang sees the loss of these opportunities as the force that hollowed out middle America, which disenfranchised large swaths of the population, leading to rising support for the wings of the political spectrum. In today's conversation, Erin and I talked about what it's like to work in a manufacturing plant, her experience of working in the trades as a rare species of a woman, her moves around the country in pursuit of various manufacturing jobs, how does she think about raising her kids, and why she thinks it's a good idea for young people to consider a career in the trades. As usual, don't forget to like, subscribe and ring the bell on our YouTube channel. Thank you. "Food waste, in essence, is a resource, it's something that holds mass and nutritional value, it's meant for human consumption that then goes to waste.” Petro Myburgh, is Senior Operations Manager at the V&A Waterfront, one of Africa's largest commercial precincts and Africa's most visited destination. She oversees the cleaning, waste management and landscaping of the precinct; and also sits on the V&A Waterfront's sustainability committee. She believes biodiversity and natural resources need to be conserved for future generations, and the way commercial precincts deal with food waste is an important part of that. The V&A Waterfront has implemented policies and procedures for separating waste, including distributing composting bins to tenants, which has prevented tons of waste from going to landfills. She adds that Commercial precincts are ideally positioned to lead by example in the fight against food waste since landlords have the partnerships and information needed to influence their tenants and the communities in which they operate. And while it can be overwhelming to get started, with the right partnerships and a little help from friends, she believes you can make a significant impact. The gap between where you are and self-love is self-care.- Dr. Michelle Robin Young mother and Senior Operations Manager for the First Hand Foundation, Shanna Adamic, knew that something was wrong with her health but various misdiagnosis she received from dehydration to sinus infections were keeping her from knowing the truth that she had a rare benign brain tumor called an Acoustic Neuroma. We first spoke to Ollie in 2017, less than a year after they launched. Gabby Slome was on the podcast talking about building a brand on great ingredients and an innovative model for shipping ready-to-serve, refrigerated dog food. Now, two years later, Ollie is scaling to keep up with their growing customer base. When launched, Ollie was shipping their human-grade dog food in single-use plastic trays. As their customer and canine base grew, they got the customer feedback they needed to scale and adapt their initial packaging experience. Last week, they launched a totally revamped packaging suite that uses less plastic and takes up less space. Now, food is shipped in vacuum sealed film packs and customers can store the meals in the newly designed, reusable Pup-tainer for freshness. This fresh start for Ollie was over a year in the making. On this episode, we’re talking to Nancy Walton, Ollie’s Senior Operations Manager about the serious supply chain strategy behind this exciting milestone and their new packaging redesign. Caitlin Strandberg is a principal investor at Lerer Hippeau, a seed investor in Ollie. She's joining Stephan on this episode to give big picture perspective on how this packaging update marks a milestone moment for Ollie, not unlike other startups at this scale. On this episode, Nancy talks about interacting with customers early on (6:41) and adapting their cold chain (11:36) to support their growth. Caitlin shares the key indicators that it’s time to make the second bet on your minimum viable product (14:40). Nancy highlights the new Ollie unboxing (17:45), sharing how they addressed the challenges of the old packaging through user research (20:54). As the team at Ollie tested their product, their packaging solutions evolved. Nancy shares how Ollie responded with slimmed down food packs that pair with the new Pup-tainers and optimized their SKUs and spoons to address consistency in portioning and packaging waste (22:43). Nancy and Caitlin give advice on making actionable data-driven supply chain decisions (27:10). Caitlin talks about translating best practices for growing companies from early predecessors (44:53). And finally, Nancy and Caitlin talk about how creating a repeatable magical moment is the key unlock for burgeoning brands (48:11). Mike Cotter is a former Marine Corps Infantry Officer who now works for Stryker Medical as a Senior Operations Manager. His specific focus is on their Mako Robotic Arm Assisted Surgical Device. The Mako Robotic device assists orthopedic surgeons in total knee and total hip replacement surgeries. In our latest podcast, Mike discusses his transition from Marine Corps Infantry to Robotic Assisted Surgery. Mike is responsible for leading two teams. One team manufactures the Mako robots, and another team analyzes the CT scan of a patient to develop the plan for the robot to guide the surgeon's hand during joint replacement surgery. How is a Marine Corps Infantry Officer with a Liberal Arts undergraduate degree qualified for such a role? Mike explains that the military taught him how to lead, ingraining in him an attitude of "refusal to fail" and the importance of adding value wherever he can. These attributes have helped him to succeed in his career. I also asked Mike what he recommends to other officers in establishing their careers. His advice includes: Go deep to learn Be self-aware Know what you don't know Let your guard down Additionally, Mike recommends the following books, Radical Candor and The Gold Mine: A Novel of Lean Turnaround.
