This week in the news: Paradox accepts blame for the Bloodlines 2 failure (and it totally should). Steam makes a call on banning a game that GoG has decided to sell anyway. The CEO of Roblox is totally fine with all the predators on his platform preying on children so long as it pumps up his game numbers. Yeah, he's a pretty vile dude, tbh. And what will likely be the topic of the decade (or at least the next few years): AI in gaming. Is it cool or not? Let's discuss. Oak's back and he's played the entirety of Dispatch so now he's on to a Spiderman game! Grif is so heated about how a friend cost them the round of Devour that she can't even tell the story correctly. Thankfully, Chicken can elaborate! Read transcriptWelcome, web-slinging console warriors and handheld hop-scotchers! Prepare your cartridges and grab your controllers, because this week on Play Comics we're diving into the gloriously chaotic streets of New York with Spider-Man: Battle for New York, the 2005/2006 portable powerhouse that took Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley's Ultimate Spider-Man universe and somehow crammed all of Manhattan's mayhem into a GBA and DS-sized punch-up bonanza. Because apparently, someone looked at one of the most beloved comic runs of the 2000s and thought, “You know what this needs? A brawler where Spidey spends most of his time frantically hammering the same three buttons while dodging increasingly ridiculous villain attacks.” Released across Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS, this wasn't your typical web-slinging adventure—it was more like someone distilled all of Ultimate Spider-Man's most explosive moments into a side-scrolling arcade experience where the city itself becomes just as much of an enemy as Green Goblin ever was. With a roster of villains pulled straight from the comics and more “beat stuff up” objectives than you can shake a web at, this game proved that sometimes the best way to honor a beloved comic series is to completely reinvent what it means to be Spider-Man. This week, we're absolutely thrilled to welcome the phenomenally knowledgeable Jarrett Tyree from Has To Do With Spider-Man I Think, who brings an encyclopedic understanding of all things Arachnid and animated to help us untangle whether this game managed to capture the kinetic energy of Bendis's run or if it just left our webbing all tangled in the wrong places. Jarrett's the kind of Spider-expert who can probably explain exactly why this game makes the choices it does, while also gently reminding us that sometimes video game adaptations are more “inspired by” than “faithful to” the source material. So strap in your web-shooters, prepare for some serious button-mashing mayhem, and get ready for an episode that explores whether this dual-platform adaptation is a hidden gem of portable gaming or just another case of “well, we had to do SOMETHING with this license.” Let's see if Battle for New York is worth defending! Learn such things as: How connected to the actual comic storylines is this game, or does it just borrow character names and call it a day? Does an action-packed comic run actually translate better into a side-scrolling brawler than into an open-world adventure? Why do handheld games keep trying to squeeze console-sized epicness into screen sizes that make text completely illegible? And so much more! Welcome back to The Kristian Karloff Show, where we break down the biggest Marvel and DC news of the week! Today we dive into huge updates from the MCU, DCU, Sony's Spider-Verse, and DC Studios—starting with AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY. Marvel Studios has officially kicked off marketing as Disney+ teases Doctor Doom's long-awaited return with the new FIRST STEPS image. What does this mean for the future of the MCU and Doom's role in the multiverse saga? Next, we jump into LANTERNS, where James Gunn may be bringing two of the most unpopular Green Lantern suits into the DCU. Are these designs really coming back, and how might they play into the new Max series that will help shape the foundation of Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters? We also break down a juicy rumor from the Sony side of things: a report claiming the studio wanted the VENOM director to helm SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY—and the surprising reason it didn't happen. What could this have meant for the future of the Spider-Man franchise? And finally, SUPERGIRL adds a key cast member as social media activity suggests the first trailer may be dropping any moment. With "Woman of Tomorrow" officially gearing up, we explore what this new casting means and how soon fans can expect the full reveal. If you're into MCU updates, DC Universe news, superhero casting breakdowns, and Spider-Man franchise rumors, this episode has it all. Phil sits down with Tall Eric — Eternal Weekend North America Top 8 competitor and one of the most committed Doomsday pilots in the format — to break down post-Entomb-ban Doomsday heading into Luca / Eternal Weekend Europe.Eric explains how the deck has evolved now that hybrid Entomb/Doomsday shells are gone, what Turbo vs Tempo Doomsday actually looks like in today's meta, and why some pivots are traps even if top players can win with them.We cover:• Why Turbo Doomsday remains the real deck• Personal Tutor vs Tamiyo — which is correct now?• Why splashing a 3rd color is almost always a trap• Why two Thassa's Oracle is still essential• Laboratory Maniac vs Jace in the sideboard• How Doomsday actually lines up into Delver, UB Tempo, Reanimator, Breakfast, and Depths• Why Cavern of Souls is secretly one of the deck's most important cards• How to evaluate “pile structure” and redundancy post-ban• What (if anything) Doomsday cares about from the new sets (Avatar, Spider-Man, etc.)• Eric's honest thoughts on Doomsday's position for Europe — and why he never feels confident in a deck choice• The importance of aesthetics, card loans, and Moxfield equity (joking… but also not joking)This is an extremely deep dive into how the deck works, where it stands now, and how a Doomsday specialist evaluates the format heading into one of the biggest Legacy events of the year.
It's that time of year…time for some big tasty turkels, delicious side dishes, and a nice tryptophan induced nod after feasting yourself into fullness and naptime. It's THANKSGIVING, and while most folks are gearing up for the coming holiday season (which will start promptly in the pre-dawn hours of Black Friday), we realize that we've NEVER taken any time off during the holidays and that perhaps it's time we enjoy a little holiday breather. With that in mind, we've put together a veritable cornucopia of clips from our 2025 collection that we hope you enjoy. Our only real cautionary advisory would be that you listen to this prior to enjoying your Turkey Day feast in order to avoid the very real possibility of laughing until you vomit. Happy Thanksgiving to all!!! Enjoy your Thanksgiving Day feast, prep carefully if you're deep frying a turkey, be thankful and gracious for the lack of giblets in your gravy, and enjoy an abundance of relaxers before dinner with the family when you JOIN US for the most off-putting, irresponsible, and exhausting VACATION TAPES you've ever heard. For this Thanksgiving-week One Shot, Laramy is joined by cohost Blake Fowler for a heartfelt, nostalgic walk through the comic book characters that shaped their lives as fans. Laramy reflects on why Superman, Daredevil, and other characters continue to mean so much to him—whether it's childhood memories, the first comic he ever read, or the stories he now shares with his daughters. Blake brings his own nostalgic favorites to the table with Batman, Skinner Sweet, Scooby-Doo, and Spider-Man, exploring how each character left a lasting mark on him over the years. The two also come together to revisit their shared love of Swamp Thing and how the character opened their eyes to deeper storytelling. It's a warm, reflective holiday episode all about gratitude, fandom, and the comic book characters that helped shape who we are.

After a brief detour of Maddy and Ryan sharing some fun facts about Ms. Lion, it's time to get into an episode of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends that is hard to read as anything but gay: "The Fantastic Mr. Frump." The titular Mr. Frump is an old friend of Aunt May's who suddenly finds himself out of a job and down on his luck. Meanwhile, Doctor Doom has cast a magic spell on an amulet that bestows almighty power upon its wielder, and Mr. Frump ends up grabbing the thing by accident. Mr. Frump then decides to use his new godlike power to turn New York City into a never-ending Pride parade, and that would probably be fine with Peter, Bobby, and Angelica, except for Doctor Doom manipulating Mr. Frump into attacking the superhero trio. This Week on Toy Power Podcast; we welcome Canadian local: Colin Betts to our home town; as he celebrates his overseas Holiday trip! Kicking off the episode, we chat towards the Tron HasLab project - that obliviously is drowning. An exciting expansion to our Powers Of Grayskull - Masters Of The Universe Collection - with the addition of the Wolf Character: Red Shadow. Plus an incredible achievement from the crew of 'Yes Have Some' / 'Toy Anxiety' Podcast; as they reveal their much anticipated Kickstarter: Cryptoids - Mothman. The first of hopefully many figures in this unique Toyline. Then we hear directly from Colin about his travels thus far. A interesting comparison on the Retail front of what offerings one finds outside of their own Country too! Then, its a flurry of Gift-Giving! It feels like Christmas Day; with the amount of gifts shared around the table; and we are all incredibly thankful for the genorosity! Thankyou Colin!!Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Superhero narratives constantly wrestle with redemption—but what does it really mean when a villain joins the heroes? This episode digs into the complex ethics of villain redemption arcs and the roles heroes play in them, examining what separates genuine transformation from simple alliance-shifting. Taking inspiration from Anthony Gramuglia's YouTube video "Ranking Superheroes By How Many Villains They Redeemed," we explore what leads some heroes, from Spider-Man to the X-Men, to redeem more of their villains than others.Key Discussion Points:What's the difference between a villain becoming redeemed versus simply becoming an ally or antihero, and why does that distinction matter ethically? How do different heroes approach villain redemption, and what does Spider-Man's track record tell us about mercy versus enabling harm? Why do the X-Men recruit so many former villains, and does their approach to redemption actually work or just create moral hazards? How do we distinguish between genuine remorse and change versus villains who just switch sides for convenience or self-interest?The discussion examines how superhero narratives grapple with the challenging ethics of reformation, forgiveness, and what constitutes meaningful transformation. **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Superhero Ethics, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. “Is it time for Terry Bradshaw to hang it up?” That's the question Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray tackle in this wild and hilarious episode of The Ben and Skin Show. The crew kicks things off with the awkward reality of Bradshaw being sent home sick during Fox NFL Sunday—and revisits a jaw-dropping clip from a month ago where Terry spirals into a story about texting Andy Reid… only to realize he was talking to a guy selling pigs. Cue Michael Strahan's savage line: “How did you make it to the studio?”Then, buckle up for the most chaotic five minutes of sports content you'll hear all week: Jon Gruden's unhinged North Texas hype video. From Mean Joe Green trivia to random shout-outs for Stone Cold Steve Austin, Meatloaf, and Spider-Man's Sandman, Gruden goes full Gruden while unboxing UNT merch like it's Christmas morning. The guys break down why this bizarre rant might be the best accidental marketing campaign Denton has ever seen.

In the Marvel Universe, the Norse god, Thor, takes his place alongside of Iron Man and Spider Man without theological comment on the improbability of either human superheroes or gods from Asgard existing. Most of the time we easily can tell the difference between what is real and what is fantasy but when it comes to religion, it seems that most people are all too willing to suspend reason and to at least pretend to dive into myths and fantasies. Such religion does us little good and more often does a great deal of harm. So, let's free ourselves from mental slavery since none but ourselves can free our minds!
It is time for the final fight. It is the one you have been waiting for. The biggest fight of the century. That is right, Ant Man versus Doctor Doom.....wait....that can't be right. Really, these two? There have been many great one on one fights that have occurred over time. Superman vs Spider-Man, Hulk vs Thing, Impossible Man vs Warlock....but we should figure out what makes a fight epic. I guess one of the ways to know if it is a great fight, is to see who shows up to watch the fight. If the best you can pull are a couple of kids on bikes, it is probably going to be a stinker. If you pull a couple of celestial heavyweights, you may be swinging for the fences. It helps the fight if you have props. I am not talking about tables or chairs, although wrestling does prove that it does help. No, I am talking about proven scientific electrical devices designed to suck the energy out of their bodies. SCIENCE! No matter what happens, you should always have an ambulance on hand in case of an emergency. You never know what could happen. Someone could get hit in the head with a radioactive pebble, or maybe they take a cosmic ray to the eyeball. Anything could happen. Or, you could have your arms crushed while wearing armored gauntlets. You just do not know. Safety first kids. Again, choose your opponent well. Know their strengths and weaknesses. Have they been resurrected recently? What is their strength versus durability? Do they have arms and legs or are they a meeple? Know this before you throw a punch. And then, when the fight starts, don't forget to punch. I asked if she crocheted. She said yes but didn't offer more. When she went back to the grown up she was with, they gave her a big high five. So cute. Then the gentleman across from me who saw me counting rows then asked what happened if I lose count. Told him I could read the stitches. He congratulated me onto who new addition to our family. In My Travels I shared highlights from a recent trip to New York City. I spent a wonderful morning at the MET Aida Silvestri- artist from Eritrea who had a triptych of pieces on display. Her work is motivated by social concern, but it also explores the camera's ability to connect people to a place. In these portraits of immigrant women, the artist strategically blurs her subjects' faces. This gesture, born of a need for protective anonymity, seems to evoke a greater enigma of the self. Mapping the course of migration to London are lines of thread stitched into the surfaces of the print- permanent, identity-altering interventions. Silvestri regards her series as a documentary project dedicated to those travelers who never reached their destination. Two embroidery samplers from Bostonian women from the late 1700s that were just beautiful. We visited the Chelsea Flea- I got a cool pair of earrings We got cookies from Levain Bakery We made a quick trip to Knitty City and Laura picked out yarn for a hat Musical- Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across New York We also saw Blue Moon at the movies. Tells the story of Lorenz Hart's struggles with alcoholism and mental health as he tries to save face during the opening of "Oklahoma!". Commentator Update (links in this section go to Ravelry) Quarter 2 is in full swing and, when I looked today, 9 players had already submitted for points for the Q2 challenge! Are you still thinking of what you can make that is at least 60 rows, using a row counter? Here are some ideas! Hats! Many of our early Q2 finishers completed hats. Neferetri, Hollyelyse and Janknitdun completed beautiful cabled hats...I bet the row counter came in handy for those projects! Kimbuktu7 completed a lovely colorwork hat Adrie9 completed a lovely two colored musselburgh hat Neckwear is also a popular choice among our early Q2 finishers Mikkaelab completed a lovely crocheted cowl and a knit bandana! Sandyrlevin also completed a cowl in steelers colors (note--she used a pattern by PSP Knitty Natty too)--Way to rack up those points! There's still plenty of time for you to get your projects in for Q2. These finishers have definitely demonstrated that there are plenty of patterns with at least 60 rows that work up in a flash! PepperRN added in Pigskin Party Tips Thread on Ravelry If you are budgeting but still want to support sponsors buy something re usable. Stitch markers can be used in 1 project and then when finished in the next. I like knitting hats for charity so I bought a hat pattern from a sponsor. I put that pattern with a sponsor bag and sponsor stitch markers and can knit it over and over during the PSP. On a Happy Note New York City! I took the train this time which was a great option. Laura and I had dinner with two of her pilates clients. We all enjoyed Gabriella and Zachary's first sleepover. We watched the KPOP Demon Hunters movie and after going to bed early and reading the Hot Air Balloon book, wehad fun hunting for the orange eyed monster! Dan made the kids pancakes and we'll put their photos on the collage wall in the guest room. Gabriella asked for a unicorn and a ghost Spiderman. Zach wanted Spiderman. I received a really nice message from my cousin Gayle who was visiting her friend in NH and let me know that Mom's shawl that she chose was keeping her warm. Love you Gayle! My childhood friend Maribeth has shared a few photos of things her family has found when cleaning out her parents' attic- costumes and things my mom made. It was sweet of her to send me those photos so we could reminisce. I finally got to join Beth's Karaoke Night Zoom (part of the Love in Stitches Membership). Dad is recovering from a back injury but doing better. We successfully moved my grandmother into the Memory Care side of the independent living home she's lived at for 5 years. Hope this will be a good fit for her. I got a massage this week! Quote of the Week "In November, the earth is growing quiet. It is making its bed, a winter bed for flowers and small creatures. The bed is white and silent, and much life can hide beneath its blankets." ― Cynthia Rylant, In November ------ Thank you for tuning in! Contact Information: Check out the Down Cellar Studio Patreon! Sometimes, though, mother nature beats out the comic books, with certain rare creatures possessing astounding abilities that can rival iconic superheroes. From shapeshifters to spider-bird hybrids, today we're going to put on our capes and fly through some unusual animals with real superpowers!
