Here's today's episode of The Kristian Harloff Show, and the big question on the table is a spicy one: Is Wonder Man actually the cure for superhero fatigue? Early reviews are in, and Wonder Man is being called the best-reviewed MCU TV series in four years, with critics praising its originality, tone, and willingness to break away from the Marvel formula. Some are even calling it the most refreshing Marvel show since WandaVision—which is no small claim. We break down what's working, why audiences seem to be responding, and whether this could signal a creative turning point for Marvel Studios. Also on the show, we dive into Spider-Man's future, as Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton teases a major tonal shift for the next web-slinger outing. What does that mean for Peter Parker, and how different could this movie feel compared to previous MCU Spider-Man films? Plus, with Super Bowl LX right around the corner, we run through the six blockbuster movie trailers you absolutely can't miss, including what studios are expected to drop and which upcoming films could dominate the conversation heading into 2026. All that, plus speculation, debate, and plenty of hot takes—let us know in the comments if Wonder Man won you over or if superhero fatigue is still very real for you. Daniel Harmon is the creator and showrunner of Tuttle Twins TV Show, an award-winning cartoon that teaches kids about principles of freedom and economics. Tuttle Twins is based on the book series that has sold over 5 million copies. In 2020, Tuttle Twins set a record as the #1 crowdfunded kids show in the world! Daniel is a creative entrepreneur and co-founded Harmon Brothers, a renowned video advertising agency that has driven billions of views and over $700 million in sales. Daniel is also a co-founder of VidAngel and Angel Studios. To learn more about Tuttle Twins, go to angel.com/tuttletwins or you can download the Angel app and watch the first few seasons for free! Additional notes from the show: Daniel and Lauren discussed a children's show concept featuring a grandmother with a time-traveling wheelchair who takes her grandchildren back in time to learn lessons from historical figures like Benjamin Franklin and Harriet Tubman. They agreed that the show would need to be entertaining enough to compete with platforms like Netflix and Disney+ while incorporating educational principles that are not currently being taught in public schools. Daniel emphasized that the show's goal is to provide parents with a resource to pass on their values to their children, comparing it to the original Spider-Man's theme of "with great power comes great responsibility." Engaging Children and Parents Through Storytelling Daniel discussed the educational approach of his show, emphasizing its appeal to both children and parents through humor and storytelling. He highlighted the show's focus on critical thinking and its success in engaging parents, with over 80% of episodes watched by parents alongside their children. Daniel also explained the role of the Angel Guild, a group of paying members who act as gatekeepers for new content, ensuring that only episodes deemed to "amplify light" are released. Lauren learned that the first three seasons are available for free on the Angel app, while the fourth season requires Angel Guild membership to access. Crowdfunding and Content Development Challenges Daniel explained the history of crowdfunding for media content, highlighting successful campaigns for TV shows like The Chosen and Tuttle Twins. He noted that BitAngel, a filtering company, eventually merged with the original content development company to avoid potential conflicts between their business models. The discussion touched on the challenges of managing both filtering and original content development under one company. Clean Content Demand and Split Daniel explained that VidAngel was split into two separate companies, with the original content side becoming Angel, where his show now lives. He noted that there is a high demand for clean content, with approximately half of the United States wanting parental controls in the early days of Angel. Lauren observed that this situation illustrated Romans 8:28, highlighting how God can bring beauty from difficult circumstances, and asked Daniel about the demand for clean content compared to what Hollywood produces, to which Daniel confirmed the demand is high, particularly among values-based audiences. Uplifting Content for Universal Appeal Daniel discussed Angel's mission to create content that amplifies light and uplifts audiences, emphasizing stories with good morals, ethics, and values, similar to Disney's historical approach. He highlighted that such content appeals to a broad audience beyond religious or Christian viewers. Ryan, Todd, and Maddy watch the Cold War-era horror story that is "Swarm," an episode of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends in which Earth is suddenly under threat from a mysterious object from outer space. The outer space object first lands near a beehive, which results in the bees transforming into a human-shaped swarm that has the power to shoot brainwashing beams at people to turn them into insect-like worker drones. Iceman and Firestar are susceptible to these beams, but Spider-Man isn't, because he's already a bug. Except he's also a free-thinking, individualist human, darn it! It is a privilege to welcome actress and singer Kim Yarbrough back to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar brand (and for the first time on the podcast) for the first time in 14 years! Many Reality TV fans first saw Kim Yarbrough audition for The Voice USA: Season Two in Spring 2012. Her powerful interpretation of Chaka Khan's “Tell Me Something Good” turned both founding coaches' chairs, Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera, around. After joining Team Adam, Kim wowed the audience with her cover of Mary J. Blige's “No More Drama” and advanced to the Season Two Live Playoffs. During The Voice: Season Two Live Playoffs, she sang Adele's “Rolling in the Deep” but fell into the Bottom Three. After delivering a superb, powerful cover of Jennifer Hudson's “Spotlight,” the Maroon 5 frontman chose to advance Kim's then teammate, Katrina Parker, to the Top 16. After her appearance on the NBC talent competition, Al Roker, Hoda Kotb, and Kathie Lee Gifford interviewed her on Today, and she sang with the Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Over the years, Kim dove deep into the entertainment industry. She guest-starred on several television shows, including 2 Broke Girls, 9-1-1, Hollywood Heights, Hot in Cleveland, Kenan, The Mindy Project, New Girl, Shameless, and The Up-Shaws. Kim also had recurring roles in Cherish the Day (Aunt Natalie), The Haunted Hathaways (Madame Labuef), and the animated series Kid Cosmic (Flo (voice)). In addition, Kim lent her voice to the Oscar-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. She also shared the stage and screen with entertainment industry legends, including Dennis Quaid, Loretta Devine, Octavia Spencer, Cedric the Entertainer, Stevie Wonder, Sheila E, and the late Betty White and her mentor Della Reese, who produced the stage show Della Reese Presents Kim Yarbrough, which allowed Kim to showcase her talents to the Hollywood Entertainment Community. On this episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Kim Yarbrough spoke about voice acting, tutoring students in the arts, and if she would ever audition for America's Got Talent or wait for a future All-Stars season of The Voice USA. How do you honor that legacy while still making Thundarr feel like a Jason Aaron story? You've written some of the biggest mythic heroes in comics — Thor, Conan, Avengers. Where does Thundarr fit into that heroic lineage for you?The original cartoon blended post-apocalyptic sci-fi with sorcery and swordplay in a way that was rare even then. How are you capturing that same balance in the comic — and are you updating it for modern readers in any way? You've said this story will reveal Thundarr's origin for the first time. What can fans expect from that reveal, and how did you approach filling in a piece of lore that's been left blank for over 40 years? You're collaborating with artist Kewber Baal, who's got a dynamic and muscular style that fits Thundarr perfectly. What's the creative chemistry been like between you two so far?Classic villains like Gemini and Mindok are returning. Did you treat this like a “greatest hits” of Thundarr adversaries, or did you want to expand their mythology too?Fun/Silly Question: If you had Thundarr's Sunsword for a day, what's the first totally irresponsible thing you'd use it for — and what's the first heroic thing you'd do after?

My backlog has backlogs. I am drowning in options of games to play. Especially on PC, but if you want to throw in Gamepass and PS+ go right ahead and increase those numbers. It's a massive library of games awaiting me to play. And 99% of them I have never played before. They're fresh and new and maybe the lot of them could suck but how would I know – I haven't played them. As time goes on that backlog only gets larger. Having options is always a good thing but there's a point of saturation. I crossed that point YEARS ago. I enjoy having a backlog, don't get me wrong. It means at any given time I have something available to play. If anything pulls me, a racing game or a puzzle game or a shooter, I'm good – I've got something to scratch that itch if need be. But then I keep adding to the pile. This past holiday season, for instance, I added more titles to my library and I've yet to play near a one of them. I've selected two that I've put time in and both of those are very sort of casual, non-story-like games. It's been a while since I dove into something meaty with a great story and compelling gameplay that keeps me coming back. Spider-Man 2 seems to be a once a week play thing and that's fine but it's also console and not taking advantage of ALL of my PC games that I could be playing. Again, this isn't a complaint. It's just an observation that each year I add to my library of games on my PC and each week on the show I tell you, mostly, of the same games I've been playing with nothing new to add. I really should do something about that. New year. New me. New playlist. Right after I grab this game I want that's on sale. New year. Same Ubisoft. It has been 4,535 days since a new Splinter Cell game (non-animated series or guest spot in another game franchise, remake, BBC radio drama, or VR exclusive) was released. Also, there's been 871 job losses in the gaming industry since January 1, 2026.

Brad Meltzer is back talking comics and his amazing novels. You ever hold a book in your hand and feel like the world just flipped on its axis? That's what happens when Brad drops a thriller. And today? We've get the lowdown on The Viper — the latest, pulse-pounding, turn-every-page thriller that just hit bookstores and is already getting the kind of buzz most authors only dream about. It's a bizzare case for Nola Brown, High stakes. Deep conspiracies. Characters you swear are real. That's classic Meltzer — smart, sharp, unrelenting — and The Viper delivers in spades. But if you think that's big… wait for this. Brad Meltzer is stepping into an entirely new arena. A crossover that nobody saw coming — a collision of icons that will shake the comics world to its core. He's writing Spider-Man/Superman — yes, Spider-Man and Superman — in an unprecedented crossover event for Marvel, dropping mid-April. Two universes. Two legends. One story. And Brad is the architect. So buckle up, because whether you're here for the thriller or the superhero spectacle, Brad Meltzer just flipped the script — again.
Send us a textOkay, here's the 4-1-1: Why have one superhero cartoon, when you can have two? The only difference: In one version he's got no friends, and the voice actor who played Aunt May, also voices a possible love interest. Ugh. Kids, this is the story of how this incest – I mean, comic book show came to syndication.Where did this web-slinging super come from? Did he ever turn into a spider? Just how much do you know about Peter Parker? Beyond the fact that Peter Parker picked a peck of pickled peppers. If Peter Parker picked a peck of pickled peppers / How many pickled peppers did Peter Parker pick if he picked a peck of pickled peppers? Sorry, I didn't mean to go all 1813 on you. And the answer is 147. All these questions, and more, will be answered in this look at SPIDER-MAN!Thanks for 'tooning in!
A Note from James:You know, I've known Scott Adams for probably 12 or 13 years. He was one of the first guests on this podcast, and he's the creator of Dilbert, which was my favorite cartoon strip for decades. But then, starting around 2013, he started writing about his life, his opinions, his approach to life, and what made him a success. The first book he did in this genre was How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big. He also wrote another book that was very influential, called Win Bigly: Persuasion in a World Where Facts Don't Matter. Both of these books are must-reads. Win Bigly is the best book ever about real-world persuasion. And Scott Adams himself was kind of an—I don't want to say he's an amateur hypnotist, but really more like a professional—in terms of how he used hypnotism techniques for persuasion. And How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big...when this comes from the very first podcast I had with him—how his story of how Dilbert became a hundred-million-dollar success… he was failing constantly. And the story of the success of Dilbert, which he tells in this episode we're going to show you now, is just amazing. Scott Adams has more recently become known for his political musings. He had a daily podcast, Coffee with Scott Adams, which I regularly listen to. I would say over the past decade—or 13 years, 12 years—he has not only become a great friend, and even somewhat of a mentor to me, but we've talked a lot, on and off the podcast—his podcast, my podcast—and he really helped me out through some times when I was a little upset about different things. He really knew how to reframe problems so that they would become successes. And when I first heard he was sick—this was last June—I was devastated. And of course, he prepared us all that he was going to pass away, which he did a few days ago. It was really upsetting. And, you know, I hate when people kind of take advantage of someone's death by saying, “Oh, I knew him great. He was my best…” blah, blah, blah. I just want to tell you: listen, put aside all your opinions. He was a great artist. He was a great storyteller. He had opinions you may or may not agree with, but he really knew a lot about the DNA of success and the real mechanics of persuasion—no BS, no academic stuff—just really how to do it. I would really encourage you: you could better your life if you read his books. I love this guy. I'm really sad he passed away. I've learned so much from him, and I want to share a little bit of that in this episode. Maybe we'll even do another one at some point. But, you know, rest in peace, Scott Adams. And please, if you haven't learned from him in the past—or even if you have—we had a great time whenever we talked. And here's a piece of that.Episode Description:Scott Adams (creator of Dilbert) explains why he thinks goals can actually make you worse off—and why systems, energy, and probability are the real tools for building a career that lasts. He tells the story of how he broke into syndicated cartooning after repeated rejection, and how a small nudge from a stranger kept him from quitting too early.James and Scott talk about writing with “danger,” why people can't reliably judge good ideas, and how persistence becomes easier once you stop expecting a perfect plan. They also get into the emotional side of “making it”—including why success can feel disorienting when you hit a milestone you thought would solve everything. What You'll Learn:Build systems instead of chasing goals, because the target will move before you get there Increase your odds by trying many small bets, rather than staking everything on one “perfect” plan Write with an element of risk—if you're not at least a little scared, it's probably too safe Don't trust friends (or investors) to recognize a good idea on sight—nobody can predict outcomes reliably Protect your energy and schedule your hardest creative work when your brain is actually sharp Timestamped Chapters:[03:04] A Note from James: why Scott mattered, and why this still holds up [06:50] Scott's new book, Dilbert, and why “systems beat goals” [12:26] Scott's daily routine and how he actually creates cartoons[15:22] The real Dilbert origin story: rejection, Jack Cassidy, and persistence [22:12] “Danger” in writing: why safe content gets ignored [25:01] The strange downside of success: when purpose evaporates [30:09] Passion is overrated: why momentum beats motivation[33:02] The math of luck: a thousand 10% chances becomes a near guarantee [34:45] Talent stacking: combine mediocre skills into a rare advantage[37:03] Energy as the real multiplier: sleep, food, exercise, and timing [41:53] People can't judge ideas: why “bad ideas” still have value[45:13] The Spider-Man problem: responsibility after you've “made it”[46:01] CalendarTree: solving a small scheduling problem well [52:42] Why James's biggest opportunities came from writing that felt riskyAdditional Resources:Scott Adams — Coffee with Scott Adams (official community site)How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big — Scott Adams (Amazon)Win Bigly: Persuasion in a World Where Facts Don't Matter — Scott Adams (Amazon)Dilbert (official site)See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Immediately after we recorded our last conversation with Brad Meltzer, we recorded a secret second episode. He was aching to discuss his next project, but he couldn't quite let the cat out of the bag until Marvel Comics released its press release. Well, friends, today's the day. The word is out: Brad Meltzer is writing the main story for the upcoming Spider-Man/Superman crossover. Now, we can release our secret conversation. In this exclusive interview with Brad Meltzer, we discuss what these icons mean to the bestselling author and what he hopes to achieve by bringing them together. Meltzer lavishes praise upon his collaborator, artist Pepe Larraz, and assures us that their story will speak directly to the two unique heroisms Spider-Man and Superman practice. We also consider how their origins might cause friction within a team-up. Our conversation with Brad Meltzer also provides another opportunity to debate those iconic words written by Stan Leein Amazing Fantasy #15: “With great power there must also come great responsibility.” We all know what those words mean, right? Right? Let's get into it. Spider-Man/Superman #1 will hit comic shops on April 15th. In addition to Brad Meltzer and Pepe Larraz's story, the comic will feature backup tales by Dan Slott, Marcos Martin, Geoff Johns, Gary Frank, Jason Aaron, Russell Dauterman, Louise Simonson, Todd Nauck, Joe Kelly, Humberto Ramos, Brian Michael Bendis, Sara Pichelli, and more. Make sure you head to your local bookstore to get your copy of The Viper, and follow Brad Melzer on Instagram and Bluesky.
