Christian Borle American actor and singer. He is a two-time Tony Award winner for his roles as Black Stache in Peter and the Starcatcher and as William Shakespeare in Something Rotten!.[2] Borle also originated the roles of Prince Herbert, et al. in Spamalot, Emmett in Legally Blonde, and Joe in Some Like It Hot on Broadway, earning Tony nominations for the latter two. Les détectives pulp, les aventuriers ou les justiciers masqués de l'époque (comme Zorro ou le Shadow) utilisaient des vêtements ordinaires. Le Fantôme introduit l'idée du costume iconique, reconnaissable, pensé pour intimider les criminels et inspirer les innocents. Cette tenue deviendra le modèle standard de tous les super-héros du « Golden Age » américain.Le deuxième élément fondateur est l'identité secrète. Le Fantôme n'est pas un individu unique, mais une dynastie de justiciers qui se succèdent depuis le XVIᵉ siècle. Chacun porte le même costume et entretient la légende d'un être immortel surnommé « L'Ombre qui marche ». Ce principe de continuité, de mythe transmis, préfigure les alter ego complexes de super-héros modernes, où l'identité civile et l'identité héroïque coexistent dans une tension permanente.Troisième innovation : son univers. Le Fantôme évolue dans un monde qui combine aventures exotiques, justice morale et codes visuels qui seront repris par les comics américains après lui. On y retrouve une forteresse secrète creusée dans la jungle, des alliés animaux, un anneau-symbole, des ennemis récurrents et un territoire à protéger. Beaucoup d'éléments qui deviendront des lieux communs du super-héroïsme apparaissent ici pour la première fois de manière structurée.Le Fantôme est aussi l'un des premiers héros à mener une guerre contre le mal fondée sur des principes éthiques durables. Il protège les populations menacées, lutte contre le colonialisme, les pirates et les trafiquants. Il incarne une forme de justice non létale, un pilier central des super-héros modernes, qui préfèrent neutraliser plutôt que tuer.Enfin, son succès international a façonné l'imaginaire de générations entières en Europe, en Asie ou en Océanie, bien avant l'arrivée massive des super-héros américains. Il a ouvert la voie, défini des règles narratives et visuelles, et inspiré directement des créateurs comme ceux de Batman.Ainsi, si Superman popularise le genre, le Fantôme en pose les fondations.
