Lee tries to start off 2025 on a positive note with a playlist from everyone's favourite Italian brother duo, Guido & Maurizio De Angelis. If you're counting, this is the fourth time Lee has done a show covering the work of the prolific brothers (search the archives on Podbean for parts 1-3), be it under their names, Oliver Onions, or some of the lesser known pseudonyms they've used over the decades. In many cases, this list features instrumental versions of songs Lee has used in previous episodes, and Lee does much less talking than in previous installments of this series. This makes for an easier episode to put together for Lee, and more music for you the listener. It's like you won a new shiny red dune buggy! --Across the Fields & Dune Buggy (Instrumental) from "Watch Out, We're Mad!" (1974) --Driving All Around (Instrumental) & Goodbye My Friend (Rock Version) from "Street Law" (1974) --Afyon (Instrumental) from "The Sicilian Connection" (1974) --Sliding Crime from "Violent Rome" (1975) --Flat Foot Cop from "Flatfoot in Hong Kong" --Suspense from "Hit Squad" (1976) --E Nun ce vojo sta from "Hit Squad" (1976) --Alberto Griso --Verso l'avventura from "Soldier of Fortune" (1976) --Ultimo Inseguimento & Agguato from "The Big Racket" (1976) --Miss Robot from "Bulldozer" (1978) --In Africa, Freedom (Single Side A Alt Mix), Diamonds #2 & African Disco from "Flatfoot in Africa" (1978) Opening and closing music: Theme from Slaughter from "Slaughter" by Billy Preston, and Too Risky a Day for a Regatta from "Tentacles" by Stelvio Cipriani.

Toss on your sailor's cap, and dust off your penicillin, because this week we dive into the deep end with TENTACLES, the surprisingly ambitious, unflinching ripoff of Jaws that takes more left turns than a UPS truck in San Francisco.  If you're not afraid of giant octopodes, perhaps you will be by the end of this film but if not, I can guarantee you'll be afraid of fat Italian producers and killer whale-wrangling rednecks.  An all-star cast including Henry Fonda, Shelley Winters, John Huston and Bo Hopkins delivers as best they can manage alongside the transformative soundtrack of Stelvio Cipriani to make this wild cash grab curiously watchable. This week, join us as we discuss one of cult Spanish film-maker Jose Ramon Larraz's early works: 1971's Deviation. This follows the now-familiar story of a bickering couple who breaks down on a lonely road and takes shelter in a nearby mansion. If you're familiar with Spanish horror, you probably have some idea of where it goes from there. On this episode: cultural perceptions of romantic age gaps, another creepy taxidermist, another borderline incestuous sibling set, drug-fueled orgy "sessions", another spin on the highway diversion trope, a lascivious pharmacist, bewildering time gaps, a mumbling cat lady, mysterious occult practices and a wonderful psychedelic score by Stelvio Cipriani.

For 1972's Baron Blood, director Mario Bava brought together the talents of some of the era's greatest genre stars and designers.  German actress Elke Sommer played the female lead and would do so again in Bava's Lisa and the Devil.  Future Oscar winner Carlo Rambaldi provided the gory make-up.  Bava fave Stelvio Cipriani composed the sometimes jaunty, sometimes dramatic music.  And American Joseph Cotten stepped in when Vincent Price turned down the pivotal role of Alfred Becker.  Dan and Vicky discuss the 1972 campy Italian horror film along with lots of recently seen like Hamilton on Disney+; docs I'll Be Gone in the Dark and Scream, Queen; films Eurovision Song Contest, Blow Up, The Yakuza, The Alphabet Murders, Come to Daddy and The Hunt.   Listen to Hot Date 109: Baron Blood and leave us some feedback.  Check out www.hotdatepod.com.

AUDIODROME is a mixtape series by musician Simon Tornby, dedicated to the composers and masters of soundtracks – each mix focusing on one composer. The mixtape series is hosted by Passive/Aggressive and The Lake, and is now entering its second season. The Lake will broadcast the coming season over the next months. To kickstart things here's a 'best of' mixtape, which completely breaks the organizing principle of the one-composer-rule and instead present us with 31 of Tornby's favorites from Alessandro Alessandroni through Goblin to Fabio Frizzi.
