En el versículo de hoy, el autor de Hechos recuerda una parte del discurso de Pedro, después de la crucifixión de Cristo. ¡Cuántos recuerdos deben haber venido a la mente del apóstol al mencionar esas palabras! Él se refería a Judas Iscariote, que ejercía una gran influencia sobre los demás. Judas, conviviendo con ellos, participando del ministerio y siendo la persona en quien todos confiaban, había sido puesto como tesorero del grupo.En la última cena, cuando Jesús desenmascaró la identidad del traidor, fue un choque para los discípulos. Jamás habían sospechado algo tan infame con respecto a uno de sus compañeros. Judas, astuto en cuanto a la administración del dinero común a ellos, sustraía para sí parte de los ingresos del grupo, pero mantenía una apariencia impecable.No hay registro en la Biblia de que Judas haya sido elegido por Jesús, como los demás. Sin embargo, independientemente de haberse ofrecido o haber sido elegido para el apostolado, fue aceptado por Jesús para estar en el grupo. Al participar del día a día de Jesús, como testigo de tantos milagros y enseñanzas, Judas recibió la oportunidad de que su carácter fuera transformado. Pero la historia terminó de manera trágica.¿Cómo fue posible? La respuesta es que Judas mantenía reservas en su entrega a Cristo. Por afuera era uno; por adentro, otro. Por afuera era piadoso y pertenecía a Jesús, pero su corazón no le pertenecía íntegramente: acariciaba maldad y depravación. Judas eligió no entregarse enteramente. En el libro El Deseado de todas las gentes, Elena de White dice: "Resolvió no unirse tan íntimamente con Cristo que no pudiese apartarse" (pág. 666).Judas nunca se identificó totalmente con Cristo o con sus discípulos. Siempre mantuvo reservas. Observaba las actitudes de Cristo y se molestaba cuando decía que su reino no era de este mundo. Sus reservas lo excluyeron del cielo.Mantener reservas en relación con el Señor nos hace retroceder ante los riesgos, sacrificios y presiones. Pedro se había precipitado negando a Jesús, pero renunció a su debilidad para que no restara ninguna reserva más. A diferencia de Judas, se entregó completamente al Maestro y fue leal hasta el fin.¿Con reservas o sin reservas? ¿Cómo está tu corazón en relación con Cristo?

Ella era triste y llenaba su vacío entregándose a los hombres. Ya había tenido cinco maridos y últimamente estaba teniendo una aventura amorosa.Como Isabel, hay mujeres inteligentes, excelentes profesionales, bien vestidas, con el cabello impecable, que por detrás del maquillaje esconden el dolor y la amargura. Viven relaciones frustrantes, porque sus pesadas cargas o ahuyentan a sus compañeros o las hacen elegir mal. Cristo tiene algo especial para ellas.Jesús venía de Judea, donde había sido rechazado por los sacerdotes y rabinos, y pasó por Samaria. Al mediodía llegó al valle de Siquem. En la entrada estaba el pozo de Jacob. Mientras los discípulos iban a comprar alimento, se sentó junto al pozo, cansado y sediento. Ella llegó absorta en sus dolores, sin notar a Jesús. Estos corrieron para escuchar a Jesús, creyeron en él y lo invitaron a ir a su ciudad. Sin embargo, ni uno de ellos caerá a tierra sin que lo permita el Padre. [...] Asi que no tengan miedo, ustedes valen más que muchos gorriones (Mateo 10:29, 31).Un sábado por la mañana, mientras estacionaba el auto cerca de la iglesia, me detuve junto a una bicicleta que estaba atada a un carrito, y vi a un recolector de basura. Me quedé observando a ese señor. Concentrado, amontonaba latitas en la bolsa plástica. Sobre la bicicleta vieja, había una lona de polietileno azul bien doblada, un bolso, el carrito, sus pertenencias, los reciclables recogidos: todo estaba bien acomodado.No suelo llevar dinero en mi billetera, pero, por casualidad, tenía un billete de cincuenta reales. Bajé del auto, saludé al señor y le ofrecí el dinero. Sorprendido, tomó el billete, agradeció y dijo: "¡Usted me bendijo hoyl Justo estaba pensando en cómo seguiría con esta bicicleta. Venga aquí para ver". Uno de los caños de la bicicleta se había soltado. El dinero sería para el arreglo.Él me explicó: "Mis cosas están ahí. Tengo hermanos que viven por aquí, pero vivo solito. Ya estuve internado en el hospital. A veces, tengo qué comer; a veces, no. Estoy en situación de calle. A la noche, encuentro un rincón, extiendo mi carpa y duermo allí".Le ofrecí un colchón, y él dijo que estaba acostumbrado a dormir en el suelo duro y un colchón dificultaría su traslado. Y me sorprendió: "Mi vida es así. Pero si usted me pregunta si soy feliz, lo soy. Tengo una Biblia allí adentro", y señaló a sus cosas. Yo sostenía mi Biblia en la mano, y él preguntó: "Eso que usted tiene ahí es una Biblia, ¿verdad?". Respondí que sí. "Yo leo la Biblia todos los días. ¿Usted ya leyó Mateo 10:29 al 31?". Y, después de recitar el versículo de esta meditación, dijo: "Dios cuida de mí. Aunque sufra y viva así, estoy seguro de que le importo y tiene algún plan para mí".Lo invité a entrar, pero tenía trabajo que cumplir esa mañana, y otro día regresaría. No lo vi más, pero guardé para siempre su sermón. Aunque revisaba tachos de basura, pasaba hambre, vivía sin techo y afecto humano, tenía la certeza de la presencia y del cuidado de Dios.¿Estás pasando por alguna situación difícil? Recuerda el sermón bíblico repetido por ese sabio recolector de basura: tú vales más que los gorriones y eres el mayor blanco del cuidado divino.

Cualquier otra cosa que digan más allá de esto proviene del maligno (Mateo 5:37).Al crearnos, Dios incluyó en nuestras facultades mentales el siguiente ítem: decir "sí" y "no" en el momento indicado.¿Ya sentiste tensión al tener que optar entre tu convicción y la de alguien que te pedía algo? Muchas personas evitan decir "no" por miedo a perder oportunidades, a complicar una situación, a deshacer lazos, o por comodidad o culpa.Decir "no" es necesario para la salud emocional. Huir del "no" compromete nuestra autonomía y nos pone bajo el control ajeno, contrariando el propósito divino.Para usar el "no", Greg McKeown da algunas orientaciones en su libro superventas, Esencialismo:Ten en claro qué es esencial. ¿Deseas ser fiel a la razón y a la conciencia o agradar a los demás? ¿Deseas ser honesta o mantener las apariencias? La claridad nos ahorra de las constantes concesiones contra la voluntad. Vence el miedo simple e innato del malestar social. La necesidad de estar bien con los demás genera la incomodidad de decir "no" a la invitación de la amiga a cenar, o a otro proyecto del jefe. Other members include Dickie Little on lead guitar, Jon Poutney on bass, and Brad Conyers who plays the drums and provides background vocals.[3] The Ziggens have been playing since the early 1990s and have developed a strong following in Southern California. The Ziggens were contemporaries with Sublime and were originally signed to their label Skunk Records. Their song "Big Salty Tears" was covered and popularized by Bradley Nowell on the Sublime acoustic album. The Ziggens, and more specifically Susanka, were also mentioned in the Sublime song "Greatest Hits". Él llama a madres, esposas, amigas e hijas a que apacienten a sus hijos, a su marido, a su mamá, a su compañera de trabajo, a su hermana de la iglesia, a sus vecinas...La pregunta repetida a Pedro y la invitación se nos hace a nosotras también: "¿Me amas, más que a todo lo que tienes? Apacienta a mis ovejas".¿Ya esquivaste esa invitación? Quizá te hayas sentido indigna, no preparada o no le hayas dado importancia. El Maestro no está preocupado por si somos indignas o si estamos capacitadas, sino que le interesa si estamos disponibles, porque él nos instruye y nos habilita para el trabajo.Permite que el Buen Pastor sea el centro de tu corazón y acepta su invitación. Aunque Noemí atribuyera a Dios el mal que le había sobrevenido, por causa de una visión distorsionada de la actuación divina, Dios comprendió su sinceridad y le dio la oportunidad para deshacer la interpretación equivocada que tenía sobre él.Hablar de nuestros propios sentimientos es un desafío para muchas mujeres. Algunas guardan consigo dolores y tristezas durante años, hasta enfermar.¿Cómo sabrán las personas con quienes convivimos qué sentimos y pensamos si mantenemos silencio o usamos la clásica mentira: "Está todo bien". Las verdaderas relaciones solo existen cuando hay franqueza en la exposición de quienes realmente somos, incluyendo los dolores, los miedos y las desilusiones por las cuales pasamos. Decir lo que pensamos, lo que senti¬mos y lo que queremos de manera asertiva implica:Personalidad. No es decir: "Parece que", "Las personas creen", sino: "Yo creo", "Yo siento", "Yo quiero".Coraje. Es necesario atreverse a hacerlo.Honestidad. No uses máscaras, sé honesta.Claridad. Cuanto más clara, mejor comprenderá el otro.Prudencia. Así podrán comprobar cómo es la voluntad de Dios: buena, agradable y perfecta (Romanos 12:2).Dios planeó la perfección física, mental y espiritual de sus hijos, pero Adán y Eva desobedecieron. Por eso llegamos a ser herederos del pecado. Sin embargo, no estamos sellados por el fracaso. El mal insiste en esa mentira. No aceptemos ese destino.No existimos para la pequeñez. Crecer es nuestra primera misión. "Nuestro primer deber hacia Dios y nuestros semejantes es el desarrollo individual. [...] Por tanto, está bien invertido el tiempo que se usa en la adquisición y la conservación de la salud física y mental" (Elena de White, Ser semejante a Jesús, 12 de octubre).En la década de 1960, los neurocientíficos creían que el cerebro era un órgano estático, premoldeado bajo un estricto orden genético. En las décadas de 1970 y 1980, por medio de experimentos con animales, el investigador Michael Merzenich demostró que los circuitos neuronales y las sinapsis se modifican rápidamente según la actividad practicada. Hoy se defiende que es posible, a lo largo de la vida, crear nuevos circuitos y conexiones neuronales en respuesta a estímulos y experiencias. En 2013, Michael Merzenich publicó el libro Soft-Wired, presentando estrategias para que las personas comunes asuman el control de los procesos de plasticidad cerebral, lo que puede mejorar su calidad de vida.Él dice: "Cualquiera que sea la circunstancia inicial de la vida de un niño, y cualquiera que sea su historia o su estado actual, todo ser humano tiene el poder interno de cambiar para mejor, restaurarse significativamente y, muchas veces, recuperarse. Las estadísticas indican que solo el 8%de los grandes proyectos se llevan a cabo.Stephen Guise, en su obra Minihábitos: Cómo lograr grandes resultados con el mínimo esfuerzo, comparte la experiencia de comenzar una rutina de ejercicios. Pensar en hacer cincuenta flexiones y cien abdominales lo paralizaba. Un día reflexionó: "Hacer cincuenta flexiones, para mí, es como subir el Everest. ¿Y si lo pienso de otra manera?" Entonces, concluyó: "No tengo inconvenientes en hacer una sola flexión". Lo logró y así comprobó la fuerza de los minihábitos.Así, sugirió dejar de lado los proyectos grandes y enfocarse en dar pequeños pasos, uno a la vez. Para él, tener buenas intenciones o pensar en grande no basta, porque puede desmotivar en lugar de generar motivación y logros concretos. Si pensamos en pasos muy distantes, no daremos el primero.Una flexión en lugar de cincuenta, escribir un párrafo en vez de un capítulo, y leer una página en lugar de treinta son acciones practicables aquí y ahora.El versículo de hoy nos llama a ser perfectas. La palabra "perfecto", del griego telios, significa "plenamente desarrollado", "completo". Esta idea de perfección es funcional. "Sean perfectos" implica estar en el proceso de maduración, en la dirección del crecimiento, en camino hacia el ideal.La mayoría de los días, cuando Guise empezaba a practicar el minihábito de la única flexión, terminaba haciendo más de una flexión. A veces, hacía cincuenta. Cuando no se sentía tan motivado, al menos hacía una sola flexión. Esa es la idea: para cumplir el objetivo, sustituiremos las dosis excesivas por otras más pequeñas, que aumentarán con el tiempo.Estamos empezando un nuevo año. ¿Qué hábitos quieres desarrollar en tu camino espiritual? ¿Cómo va tu comunión diaria con Dios? ¿Cómo combates los pensamientos negativos? ¿Cómo cuidas tu salud? Si no puedes tomar seis vasos de agua, empieza con uno al día.Piensa en el primer paso que puedes dar hoy, aunque solo sea una flexión.

AI models are very good at summarizing things, finding other things like those things, and helping you find those things again. But does that mean we should leave all the work of finding and understanding to those models? Sari Azout, the founder of an app called Sublime, doesn't think so. For this episode, the second in our two-part series about how developers are using AI and building models into their products, Azout explains how Sublime tries to balance being a thoroughly human-focused app with the efficiencies that come with new technologies. He updates the Dopey Nation on the Dopey Fitness Challenge, his failed attempt at jogging with his dog Winnie that ends with him eating pavement, ripping his pants, smacking the dog in frustration, and then feeling guilty about it all week. Dave reads an email from Haley in Mississippi, who loved the Glenis and Billy Strings episodes and promises heavy dopey stories from homelessness, prison, and IV meth. He begs for more voicemails and then plays a chunk of Miles Davis's autobiography, where Miles describes sliding from snorting heroin into shooting it, realizing he has a habit, and sinking into a four-year “horror show” of heroin and cocaine in New York.Then Dave introduces Naughty God (Dakota), a heavily tattooed Instagram/TikTok/YouTube creator who built a big following rating nod videos “sportscaster-style.” Dakota tells his story: growing up between a sweet, young mom and a meth-addicted dad, starting drugs at 13 by snorting random pain pills he found in a friend's brother's room, and becoming the classic weed-identity kid with a pot-leaf MySpace. He forms the band LAW with his friend Jacob Nowell (Bradley Nowell's son, who now sings for Sublime), and they grow up playing shows in San Diego and Long Beach while having access to grown-up levels of partying. Dakota falls in love with cocaine in his mid-teens, then with speed, and his using gets him kicked out of LAW when Jacob gets sober and can't handle him showing up high to everything.After moving to Orange County, Dakota dives into selling and using coke in San Clemente, then adds Oxy 30s (“blues”), fentanyl pills, and heroin to his daily rotation. He and his tight crew—especially his best friend Robert—live in a constant loop of dealing, partying, and using. Over two months, Robert, Dakota's cousin, and three other friends all die from fentanyl. The losses break him: he has a mental breakdown, calls his grandma, and checks himself into a San Diego hospital detox, where he's put on 100mg of methadone and spends years on the clinic grind.Dakota talks about being on methadone for four–five years, barely using anything else, then deciding—with help from a therapist—that he'll never fully turn a corner if he stays on it forever. He tapers himself from 100mg down to 4mg over about a year, jumps off, and goes through a long, foggy, uncomfortable withdrawal. He's now about a year and a half off methadone, occasionally smokes weed, sees a therapist, plays bass in his band Somehow Unseen, and works on content. He and Dave riff on nodding (“my whole life”), nod techniques, fentanyl's short “legs,” and the economics of why heroin likely won't “come back” in a big way.Dakota explains how he built NaughtyGod into a fast-growing account by structuring it like a recurring “show” and inventing/collecting phrases like “Charm City Rainbow,” “Nodwalk Shuffle,” “Baltimore Street Yoga,” “Sheriff of Nottingham” to describe different nod poses. They talk about Instagram flagging and banning drug content, other junkie meme/recovery pages, and how both of them accidentally stumbled into helping people through content that started out as pure jokes and self-centered ambition.
