Tahn Wanders . . . and Wonders A Young Monk's Search for Peace and Happiness Today we are honored by a second visit from Tahn Pamutto, who first appeared as a podcast guest on November 4, 2024, where he described his transition from a soldier in Iraq to an ordained Buddhist monk. He also gave us a taste of Buddhist teachings, and compared them to what we to in TEAM-CBT. There were certainly a number of areas of overlap. For example, as a psychiatrist, my goal is often to help bring patients as rapidly as possible from a state of unhappiness and depression to a state of joy and enlightenment, using a number of specific psychological techniques we call TEAM-CBT. But part of this is spiritual in nature as well. Tahn's role as an ordained Buddhist monk is similar, in part. His goal is help people who ask for guidance how to discover the cause of unhappiness, and the path to happiness, using a number of spiritual exercises, including meditation. But part of these exercises are psychological as well. Today, Tahn began by contrasting a spiritual vs a materialistic view of life, and emphasized that the materialist view cannot solve the problem of unhappiness or provide us with happiness. This is, in part, because material things are impermanent, and will all ultimately disappear. Negative feelings, like unhappiness, actually result from our thoughts--how we view the world. The world is the world, and you can accept that, or you can protest and shout angrily that things “should” be different or “shouldn't” be the way they are, but your feelings will always result from the way you think about the world. He said that when he was growing up, all his needs were taken care of, and happiness was fleeting, so he embarked on a search for answers. Who was I, and why was I struggling with so much unhappiness? He said, “To explore and really find out who I was, I'd have to depart from my comfort. When I joined the army, it sounded great. It was all about patriotism, loyalty, honor, service, and all kinds of positive values. . . But then at some point, they say that's time to invade this or that country, and you have to try to make that work, since you can't challenge the mission. The Iraq war was going on, and I spend 13 months there. But if your mission is wrong, you will keep suffering, no matter how hard you try. Did the people in Iraq really want us there? Are we really doing anything that's positive or good? And what is it that I really want to do with my life? One thing we have to recognize is two things that cannot be denied: our mortality and the existence of unhappiness. As I began to accept these two inevitable facts, I also realized that there is no quick solution, and that the reality is that our unhappiness may not end on its own. We may go to sleep, and escape for a while, but when we wake up, we will still be unhappy. We could even imagine being reincarnated and having a different body, a different religion, or living in a different time, but our suffering still won't change. I may be a different person, but I will still be unhappy. I asked myself if and how I could train myself to accept what life brings me. . . and wondered whether is would be possible to pursue unending happiness? And if so, how would I go about it? What I do? When I was in Iraq, I applied for conscientious objector status and eventually got out on an early retirement. Then, I began looking for an experienced, humble teacher who could share their knowledge with me. I bought a backpack and some hiking shoes, and began to search so I could learn what I needed to learn. I didn't have much knowledge of Buddhism at all at that time. I left my mother's house in New Jersey and started walking. I walked 20 miles, but realized I was going in the wrong direction, and had to walk 20 miles back and start over, walking in the opposite direction. The first night of my journey, I got exhausted and slept on a park bench. In the middle of the night, I thought I heard loud explosions, and woke up feeling terrified, but it was just acorns falling down from the oak tree I was sleeping under. In the Army I had learned the wrong way, and that's why I decided to search, but any old street in New Jersey probably didn't have what I was looking for. I decided to search for the answer in Asia instead, and wandered in India, Thailand, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. I went into Temples and Mosques. I had the romantic notion that some wise bearded man would come out of nowhere and tap on my shoulder and say, “We've been waiting for you, Tahn! You have finally arrived!” But it doesn't work like that. In Thailand, there is a monastic level to society, as well as a commercial level. Thailand and Burma are certainly not perfect as countries, but have a higher than average level of happiness because the people are generous and help each other. If I wanted, I could just go and stay at a Temple. Much of their society is based on the joy of giving and receiving. People in the monastic level are living primarily on donations. I decided I wanted to become a monk. That was what I wanted to do. I learned about the importance of the “Contemplation of Death.” Most people want to avoid thinking about death. But death and the loss of all materialistic things is inevitable. You cannot avoid it, and might want to base your daily decisions on this fact. For example, you could ask yourself, “Suppose I knew that I would die this evening. What would I do today? Would I continue shopping for a couch? Or feuding with my neighbor?” If you did this contemplation every day, you might discover that you're doing what you think you should do, rather than what you want to do. You may be pursuing materialistic goals that inevitably cause unhappiness. Let's say you live in a small cabin, and notice some leaves on the floor. You might decide to sweep the leaves out of the cabin. Then, if you die, they will find your body on a clean floor. That would make it easy for someone else to move into the cabin. This path (the daily Contemplation of Death), he explained, is one way to get to the destination of unconditional happiness. Rhonda asked Tahn why he decided to become a teacher. He explained that he did not make that decision, but as he wandered and practiced the monastic life, people would stop and ask him questions about truth and enlightenment and the meaning of life, and so forth. Over time, he realized that because of his travels and searches, he began to gain more and more experience, and sometimes had something to offer individuals who were earlier in their journeys, and also looking for guidance. He said that the reality of being a monk is not glamourous. Our needs are really pretty minimal. We need food, shelter, clothing, and medicine if we are sick. But beyond that, the monk gets little. If you need clothes, you may have access to a pile or rags that you can sew together to make a piece of clothing, or you may have to eat the leftovers when others have finished eating. You have to learn to live on what extras might be given to you. He explained that I've actually been surprised by how much love and support there is in the world. I've been well-taken-care-of. My main interest has been to learn about the mind. Of course, we have our basic needs to survive, but what are we doing to develop spiritually? He mentioned that the monastic order is not structured, it is not a hierarchy, and you can come and go anytime you want. The Buddha accepted the strong desire of his followers to evolve into a church, as a structure to preserve the teachings, but this was a compromise. The Buddha was simply sharing something  that had already existed before he was born, something that anyone can discover, with or without a structure or system. At some point, you may say, “I quit,” and start to do what you want to do, know that your time to be alive is limited. Here are some of the questions people ask Tahn in his travels. How can I deal with my intense anger? Tahn said, "When people “find me” when I am traveling, or wandering, they often think that “this encounter was meant to happen.” He said that Buddhists do not proselytize, and there is no concept of “conversion.” He teaches people that “You are going to have to die. You're are going to have to give it all up one day.” He asks, “What are you seeking? What is ailing you?” He tells us that the Buddha taught us the cause of all unhappiness, and how to find happiness. Anyone can find what the Buddha discovered. The goal is the cessation of unhappiness. Is never-ending happiness possible? Tahn said: We certainly know that clear days, with no clouds, are possible. The clouds are not a part of the sky, they are just droplets of moisture, and the sky is not affected by the clouds. Clouds and unhappiness are very evitable. Tahn finished by saying, “Our unhappiness is independent from our happiness.” That's my best translation of the interview, and I'm sure I missed a lot, and misinterpreted parts as well. I do know that it was a great pleasure and honor to spend 90 minutes with Tahn. I hope you learned something and found Tahn's story interesting. And here's one tip that's helped me, and it might help you on your own journey. Sometimes, when I hear a Buddhist story or teaching, it sounds nonsensical at first. I can't “get it.” Then, a few days later, the meaning often comes, or at least A meaning, and I feel happy to have learned something kind of cool! TAHN 32: Cultural Practitioner Su'a Sulu'ape Aisea Toetu‘u

Su‘a Sulu‘ape Aisea Toetu‘u is of Tongan and Filipino descent and lives in Hawai‘i. Since 2007, he has been the owner and operator of the world-renowned Soul Signature Tattoo in Honolulu. He received his tatau from Su‘a Sulu‘ape Alaiva‘a Petelo and was also given the Sulu‘ape title as a tufuga, which gave him the right to use the family tools. It was then that Toetu‘u started tattooing using the traditional tapping method. After completing several tataus and malus, he was given another title, Su‘a, from tufuga Su‘a Sulu‘ape Petelo. Toetu‘u teaches art courses in Hawai‘i, frequently organizes art shows, and is a leading figure in the Polynesian tattoo and cultural revival. Meet Tahn Palmetto Theravada Buddhism--the Thai Forest Tradition Our dear colleague, Jason Meno, generously invited five high-profile Buddhist monks / teachers, to appear on our Feeling Good Podcast, hoping we could feature one every week during our "Enlightenment Month."  He included his dear friend and ordained Buddhist monk, Tahn Palmetto. Happily, Tahn accepted Jason's invitation, and we are thrilled to chat with him today about his feelings of depression as a young man in the army to his search for happiness and peace through meditation. Tahn began his journey when we was young, 20 or 21 years old. After he enlisted in the army, he was lying on the floor, staring at the ceiling and realized he was depressed. He also realized that he didn't actually want to go to war, and saw that the best of good intentions often lead to pretty terrible outcomes. Jason and David described the basis of cognitive therapy, confirmed in Jason's recent research on meditation, that the degree of upset from any negative thought depends on how strongly you believe it to be true. Tahn said he also realized that his negative feelings did not depend so much on what he was doing, but how much he believed his thoughts. He got out of the army and searched for spiritual teachers, and eventually settled on Theravada Buddhism, also known as the Thai Forest Tradition. He said, “I found that you can have a lifestyle that triggers feelings of unhappiness, and committed my life to achieving happiness and peace.” He said that some people who come to the monastery discover that they don't want to commit themselves to the monastic life, and some commit to it but do it poorly. He said that your commitment will depend on how strongly you want to feel happy and enlightened. Believing that this is possible requires a paradigm switch. It is possible to have a mind that is clear, but even on a clear day, there will be clouds. The clouds, however, are only temporary. Our suffering comes and goes. If you twist your knee, it may hurt for life. But if you have a cold, you can recover completely. Even in a monastery, people have their squabbles. Within the Buddhist practice, Than explained that it is important to try to identify the disease and only then prescribe the effective treatment. Jason mentioned that some people come to the monastery but leave feeling hopeless. Others stay and are successful. Tahn explained that in Asia it is common for someone to enter the monastic life for a brief period, for example when they are experiencing grief. He said that if you grieve over the loss of a loved one, time alone will heal your grief, and once the suffering is relieved, they leave the monastic life. Rhonda asked if mindfulness meditation could be harmful to some people. Tahn explained that mindfulness does not cause negative feelings, but often reveals the presence of negative feelings. If you have a condition that prevents you from experiencing enlightenment, the condition is getting in the way. Sometimes the practice will give you the stability and the peace of mind to deal with it. If you come to the practice of mindfulness or the study of Buddhism for the wrong reasons, you might stay for the right reasons. If it does not work or help, you can always seek some other type of treatment. Tahn explained that mindfulness or Buddhism addresses unhappiness caused by mental or physical pain, and that people are often surprised by how it helps them. He believes that mindfulness meditation is “the thing” that treats someone's stress. It treats the “dukka,” which is a fundamental Buddhist teaching that refers to (according to the internet) the “suffering” or “unhappiness” of life. It is one of the first “noble truths” of Buddhism; namely, that suffering cannot be avoided. Apparently dukka comes in three flavors: Physical and emotional pain and discomfort Suffering from the inability to accept change The profound dissatisfaction of existence. Tahn said that you develop greater resources when you meditate. Then you may have extra resources to help others: You learn to deal with everybody's stuff. You learn to be aware of your body. This is your perspective for everything you do. It makes me happy to think about my eyeballs. When I meditate on this, it becomes funny, and I laugh. Tahn suggested that when you meditate, you learn to be aware of your body, because that is the center point of your world. This is your perspective on everything that is going on in the world. When you become aware of your body and what it is doing, you know the context of everything in your life. What does his day look like? Tahn said: I answer emails, I troubleshoot problems. Lately we've had a problem with scorpions. But we don't try to kill them. Tahn talked about how Buddhism defines Truth as reality, and that the definition of happiness is “non-suffering.” There are three patterns that lead to unhappiness: Attachment, which he defined as greed and desire, especially when you seek some external object(s). An extreme example would be disregarding the needs of others or even endangering others to get the object of your desires, or an attitude of only wanting or caring for things that you like or want. Aversion which refers to feelings of aggression, anger, and hatred. Aversion's opposite is loving kindness. When we experience Aversion, we push away (usually aggressively) the things that we dislike. If we allow our ignorance to take over, we can conjure up hatred for the things that we dislike and the people we see as blocking our desires. We saw from the meditation experiment that Jason described last week, how meditating on loving kindness brought about a reduction in people's negative thoughts. Ignorance refers to delusion, confusion and dullness. Ignorance defuses understanding serving to confuse you and prevent you from doing something functional. This can be experienced as an inability to see the truth or reality of ourselves or the world around us. Asking questions like “Am I real” is the basis of the first two in this list. Tahn also discussed how the mind precedes the thoughts. Then we talked about the concept of the Self, in that we think that we exist. However, there is no stable “I.” All we find are temporary phenomena. For example, you don't need to have a “self” to drive to a picnic. All you need is a car and a tank of gas. Loudenvielle, the sixth World Cup of the season, was the third race to be heavily affected by rain on race day. We saw ideal conditions for the Juniors and 98% of the Elite Women's field before Deja vu struck and the skies opened up for fastest qualifier, Tahnée Seagrave. And oh boy, did it get spicy as the rain continued to fall throughout the Elite Men's final. Gnarly conditions always foster spectacular displays of bike handling, and some racers put on a clinic this weekend. We also got to witness Vali and Bruni each wrap up another Elite title, a bunch of young Kiwis filling the podiums in the junior fields, and a ton of feel-good results, like Benoit taking the win after crashing here last year, Reece Wilson landing on the podium after so many setbacks, Aaron Gwin back racing after two years, and Myriam Nicole taking her first win after missing all of last season to a concussion. Intermontane is an adjective that means ‘situated between mountains.'  The Latin prefix I-N-T-E-R means ‘between,' while montanus (mon TAHN oose) means 'mountains.' Our word of the day's first known use came in 1807. Here's an example: Our intermontane location of the army base made them difficult to find by enemy forces. Unfortunately being located among the mountains also made it difficult to have access to electricity. So we spent a cold six months until the war was over.

Tahnée Sanders is a former journalist-turned-marketing strategist who leads female-led businesses to effective marketing strategy. As the founder of The Strategy Studio, she applies real-world approaches to marketing for creatives looking to connect with more of their ideal clients so they can charge what their expertise is worth and ultimately run more profitable, sustainable businesses.  Tahnée began her career quite literally off the beaten path in a small Australian mining town, where she was the country's youngest daily newspaper editor. In one of many bold steps, Tahnée left her career in journalism and set off to travel to the Americas. A one year plan would turn into nearly a decade abroad.  After trading her marketing and copywriting services to a small florist shop in Canada in exchange for knowledge on floristry, Tahnée was catapulted into the wedding industry. She went on to learn all the things about flowers and styling, and serve as a content strategist for wedding inspiration leader Once Wed, as well as If I Made, one of the first online learning companies for creative entrepreneurs.    When she became a new mom in 2017, she knew she wanted to pivot toward a life that fulfilled her and provided more flexibility.  Since 2019, Tahnée has supported more than 100 small businesses through her strategy sessions, Done-In-A-Day copywriting service and group coaching. If you follow the high octane, high action, and the highly skilled sport of downhill mountain biking then you will know the name Tahnée Seagrave… if you don't then it doesn't matter, as this is an episode of the podcast you need to hear regardless.  Tahnée is a multiple World Cup winner, athlete for Red Bull and Fox Racing, but after a major crash she feared for her future in the sport. Injuries aren't uncommon but Tahnée suffered a serious concussion that has kept her off her bike and thrown up walls to scale that simply weren't there before. Kris speaks to her about the accident, the fallout, and the work to get riding again as well as how to embrace femininity in a male dominated sport and redefining females within it. Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Miami, Florida, Jackson attended Harvard University for college and law school, where she served as an editor on the Harvard Law Review. She began her legal career with three clerkships, including one with U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Stephen Breyer. Prior to her elevation to an appellate court, from 2013 to 2021, she served as a district judge for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Jackson was also vice-chair of the United States Sentencing Commission from 2010 to 2014.[4] Since 2016, she has been a member of the Harvard Board of Overseers. I've been so looking forward to this.   George Kavassilas: (00:06) Yeah Mason, thank you as well. I see you as a brother in life, and I'm just really, really grateful that you invited me back on. Thank you.   Mason: (00:17) And it was New Year, 2015, I want to say. I think maybe even 2014, actually, where we met at a New Year's party in Byron, lots has happened since then. It's great to still be connected with you. And as I was telling you beforehand, it's funny, like I jumped out five minutes before we had to get on another podcast and went to the toilet and could hear the booming Kavassilas voice downstairs. And it was your son, who never comes to the warehouse. It's just.   George Kavassilas: (00:51) Turns up five minutes before we're on.   Mason: (00:54) So good. He actually, he said to send his love shit forgot to send. But it's yeah, it's so beautiful to arrive here. And I know there's many people in the SuperFeast community that do know your work, I know that for sure, a lot of people have heard the podcasts we did years back on the Mason Taylor Show. And that's still the most downloaded episode on that podcast. There's a lot of people that aren't aware of your work. And I thought, especially since we talk so much about Taoism, the yogic universe. But we talk so much about going back to its roots, almost its Shamanic earth-based roots and not the colonisation of the systems. And that is you take that into such a more macro, micro at the same time in your work, in the education through your workshops, through your one-on-ones, through your podcast, your book.   Mason: (02:09) And so, I'd love to just ask that general question and ask for that sharing for those that haven't been exposed to your insights and your experience yet to share your core work and perhaps even your experience of the universe, what it is, but I'll just leave it out there. It's such a hard one to kind of ask.   George Kavassilas: (02:38) It might be. What a cracker. For me, it's a lifetime of experiences from when I was a little baby, it's just been steady throughout my whole life. Sure, there's quiet periods and then, they ramp up again and then, and as I mature and I grow and I evolve, the experiences change as well. So in the last three years was a winding up of my agreements with what people call the SSP or the Secret Space programme, or, you know, in some MyLab agreements that I had in place and now for me I didn't sign anything from this incarnation. This was all preordained prior incarnation that I, the agreements were made prior to incarnating that all would work with these groups. And so that's all come to a close now, you know.   Mason: (03:37) What do you mean by working with them?   George Kavassilas: (03:37) I would offer myself up to go on missions and to be trained and go on missions by them training to a degree. But, you know, because they, it's kind of interesting in the sense that they, they end up getting power hungry and then what they want to do is hold onto someone like myself and then use someone like myself as an asset to push the boundaries or even just be belligerent and not give two cahoots about the original agreement. And they just get lost in their own power trip, basically become self deluded. I call it like a porcelain glaze that, you know, that comes over people and they get lost in it. So that's all come to a close and that's just one example. And now, you know, my interactions with the matrix and with other power groups it's changed. And I'm merging into more of a background advisory role to the civilization builders that are here on earth now who are building the next expression of civilization on earth. And it's a really wonderful role to be playing.   Mason: (04:59) So let's look at the context of what the purpose is of building new, you know, like an evolution of civilization. Why are we doing that? Why are we like what's the purpose of moving in those directions and working on this. I mean, I'm kind of framing it up there of like, I guess, especially heavily on the subject of your book is where are we in? Where are we ending up here?   George Kavassilas: (05:27) Yeah. And it's, you know, a lot of people with my opening statements just now probably going, what's he talking about.   Mason: (05:32) Everyone just hold on, everyone. It really like a lot to have context to build in. We don't have a short amount of time. We've got as long as we want, but holding now like, you know if especially, if you haven't hang in there, it'll be take the journey. It'll, it'll it'll land   George Kavassilas: (05:57) And it'll come. It looks, it'll be self-explanatory as we go along. And so humanity's at a really interesting stage. Like you could say we're at a crossroads and that's as obvious as it gets. And, you know, there's this old saying, we are the ones who are mining for how many people are actually transferring that from an Ideological concept into the being and living the expression of that and you're one who's doing that for sure. And there's lots of people who are listening, who are doing that. However, there'll be people who are listening, who are feeling a bit lost and not really sure about what they're supposed to be doing in this world. And even on the way there, this morning at a beautiful dialogue on the phone with a friend of mine, who's really, really awake and aware, but she was like, I'm feeling lost at the moment.   George Kavassilas: (06:57) Don't know what I'm supposed to be doing. And I feel that this is, this is where a lot of us are at the moment. And so there's other people that I've been speaking with lately who are overwoken to their fundamental purpose. And the fundamental purpose is the language, you know, it's the Georges and that I use, it's just called fundamental purpose. And that is for our existence here, why did I really come to this world? What did I really come to earth and incarnate? What was the main, well, let's call it the paramount or the principle, the foundational reason why I came to have an incarnation on earth at this time, when it's the timing, see when you've got this entity called humanity as a single organism, and then you have this incredible planet, which has got more biodiversity here compressed into one space, time location due to the fractal nature of it all than any other reality in the universe. And these two entities are having this most dynamic relationship and we've come right into that space right in the middle, right in the middle of there. And there are many of us who are here that are aware that we have come to engage. We have come to participate and facilitate and support and do all these wonderful things in the evolutionary leap that both mother earth and this entity called humanity, are both co-creating and symbiotically experiencing right now. And we are here to do exactly that to engage and the universal law of non-interference has been overridden for quite a large group of beings to come and to engage. And now there's, you know, because I work very deeply in exo politics and cosmo politics. That's the two areas that I specialise in, and these are the skillsets I bring into this lifetime. And I've been, as you know, I've had a lot of experiences in my life.   George Kavassilas: (09:07) We've had a lot of, you know, private talks about that. And they've been quite extraordinary in nature. And it was all leading up to the work that I'm doing now, which is more of that advisory role in the background, because the evolutionary leap that we're in now, it's this next step. And so if the next step goes in a direction, let's say the next step goes over here, but we needed to go over here because of the step that comes after that. Okay. If, if we don't have this next step in our evolution, heading in the direction, it needs to go in, and let's say, we get pulled over here then to bring it from out of the heat, back to where it was supposed to go in. The following step is such a big gap and it's going to create a lot of pain and suffering to bring it back course corrected.   George Kavassilas: (09:57) And so people like myself are here and others we're here to actually play that mentoring advisory role because the civilization builders that are here at the moment working behind the scenes to create the next expression of civilization on our planet, which is being implemented over the next five years, I would say, and then we'll be living it for another 10 years before it changes again, where we're looking at helping to mentor and guide the folks who are here doing this fabulous work to create the structures and expressions of society that are going to be beneficial. And I mean, heading in that direction towards that place, that both mother earth and humanity and the solar being, the galactic being, the cosmic being, the universal being are all intending it to go to, but they're allowing a certain amount of leeway in the process.   Mason: (10:58) Would you mind, I know this is another big conversation where I'm feeling is to even step back into get context of where we from in your experience and what you teach the universal being, what is the universal being? What is that? And what is that journey that we've gone through up until this point and how did we undergo it?   George Kavassilas: (11:24) Yeah, that's a big question. That's okay. So, you know, what is a universe? A universe is from the infinite nature of life of being expresses itself. And that expression becomes manifested. And that manifestation from that space becomes what we call a universe, a reality. And the being who expressed itself in that form is the prime creator of that space. So then it's responsible for everything. So it has the ultimate responsibility and it has the ultimate authority. That's the way natural law and law spelled L O R E natural lore. That's why that's the tenant. That's the main tenant of natural laws. Only one covers everything, you know, and the ultimate, the prime creator of a reality is the ultimate authority of that reality. And these are the ultimate responsibility of that reality. And there's no escaping that. That's the way life operates.   George Kavassilas: (12:25) So it's about, you know, and it's the same for us on a, on a micro level. You know, we are the prime creator of our experiences. So, you know, how long are we going to sit back and play the blame game for when's the time that we're going to actually step up step into our responsibility and our natural authority, and then work in conjunction in harmony with these intelligences, which are these beings. So meaning from the universal being, and then there's, it's cosmic expression, which is the multiverse, which is inside this grand universe. And, and there are other universes in the omniverse beyond this universe. Okay. Lots of universes, countless. And what we call the multiverse, which is full of parallel universes, because it's multiple versions of the one verse, meaning this expression of unit universal creation.   George Kavassilas: (13:18) So that's what a multiverse is, it's an omniverse all different each, each universal construct is, is uniquely different because it's all different expressions. Okay. Whereas the multi- verse is the one construct meaning light, which is what this universe is made of and multiple versions. And that's the parallel universe is at quantum physics talks about in quantum mechanics. So that's the multiverse, but that's all in, what's called the grand cosmic arena of this universe. Okay. So that's what I call a cosmic. There's the cosmic being. So there's the expression of the universal being that holds in space, holds the space for the entire multiverse to exist.   George Kavassilas: (14:03) And then a grander aspect of that being is actually the entire universe structure itself. But it's a, so it's like think of it as a stepping down is not the right word, stepping out is probably more accurate, you know, into more of an outward expression. It's not the true nature of life is not hierarchical. It's more concentric. So what people term the higher realms in more to be more accurate are the inner realms. And what people call the lower realms in their hierarchical entrainment. Is really the outer realms.   George Kavassilas: (14:49) And if we can make that switch, you know, the way and our modus operandi of our thinking, then it will really help a great deal for people to come back home to the natural way of life. And because we are, you know, you said earlier now preamble to the interviews, like how do we relate? And that's the key word relating to whatever well, that's because we're in an active, conscious relationship with, and that's how we relating through that relationship. So how do I relate to the universal being? Well, that's a personal thing between me and the universal bang and I'm in a co-creative process with that being I'm not lesser than, or not subservient to, okay, this is, we're talking about the natural order now, right. The natural way of life and the natural way of life. So the universal bang, which is separate to the God of religions, I just want to make that distinction absolutely clear. Once people realise there's the prime creator of this universe, and then there's the God of religions, and they're actually two different things we're talking about, even though one's trying to mimic the other.   Mason: (16:04) We'll definitely get to dive into that.   George Kavassilas: (16:07) And all of a sudden we've now got, you know, something real going on and all of a sudden it's a pure organic, natural relationship internally. And to, I guess, to settle into that relationship, we can only really settle into that relationship, but we start accessing our own multidimensional nature within ourselves.   Mason: (16:31) How did you in your experience, because this is something I liked why I love talking to you, and you made an initial distinction there around primary creator of the universe and having a relationship with that creator that isn't subservient or lesser than, and then the relationship to a religious God, which has a superiority in, in kind of complex. So that's initial, that's a huge distinction. That was a really significant one with me that I've gone on a journey with for six years without ever having to believe you. And that's something I want to throw out there early, because I think it does, I think you'd be aware that you do a good job at keeping yourself slippery, that you don't create a system that people need to believe in, have faith in externally. And that's something, this is just really interesting distinctions experiences you've had in conversation. So I'll keep on asking you in that sense of going through your experience in what you teach. I just wanted to throw that out there and by all means, if you want to jump off that diving board, now that'd be great. But I also wanted to lead into how did your relationship begin with the crew with the primary creator of this universe?   George Kavassilas: (17:52) Yeah, when was that stage in my life when it really started to happen.   Mason: (17:57) And also in the whole macro conversation, just, I always, maybe I'm a bit rusty and remembering, where did you actually start? How did you start dancing in this universe to begin with? And what was the incentive to actually engage for you created by these universe? Are you just that's where I think there's a distinction. I feel I kind of couldn't use a refresher on there as well.   George Kavassilas: (18:20) Oh, absolutely. We are all infinite. I'm just going to tell you straight out, we're all infinite. That's we are infinite, that's it. And what does that mean? You know, how does that feel? Well, there's no beginning or end to our existence and we always have been, and always will be for someone to have absolute power over you. They have to convince you that they created you. And so that's a different model. That's a different approach. Entering this universe was this being expressed itself. And everybody just went, whoa, it's freaking awesome. I want me some of that, you know, the being from the infant nature of life, it's just a peer, you know, a peer being.   George Kavassilas: (19:15) It's like, well, hang on, just let me sort this out first. And, and then I'll create processes. And then you can all enter into my universe and go through the process, which is what we do in the omniverse. It's full of curiosity and adventure and love, you know, what we call it, it's beyond our notion of love, but you get the idea right. Of what love is. And so that's that harmonious invisible thing that binds all live together in harmony without, you know, mutual destruction. So it's a so to speak or distortion, so that's ever present. And so to enter this universe, it was like the universal being was creating its own processes of exploring its own expression.   George Kavassilas: (20:05) So it needed to work that out first. And then once it did, then it created pathways and processes, and then invited other beings in. And really the attraction to this universe is this is the only universe that will dissect you from the inside out and show you things about yourself that you've never even, even knew existed and all of your light and all of your shadow. And this is the only universe that does that. So beings get to take a journey which could take aeons and aeons and aeons of time just depends on, you know, the pathways, but generally on average, it's quite a few aeons, but yeah, for some it's even longer, and really you get to take a journey into exploring of, of being expressing yourself one way and then expressing yourself another. And so we end up with these expressions of alter egos of self, and then depending on how far you go, depending on how polarised you become.   George Kavassilas: (21:11) And it's a really fascinating journey. It's a fascinating universe. And it provides an incredible service in that way. The opportunity to really know oneself in a way like never before. And it's not a prison system, it's fully voluntary. There is a realisation though, once people enter into the process that you really got to see it through because you're starting to fragment yourself into all these different expressions of both sides of the ledger. And you can't just pull out there because you got to bring those fragmented states back into a unity and it's got to be done harmoniously. And the wisdom needs to be extracted from that experience. You know? So once one enters the process and your greater being knows this, then you're in and you see it through. And where we are at is having adventure through the grand cosmic arena, the multiverse and having adventure through many different escapades and adventures.   George Kavassilas: (22:25) The universal bang has provided a pathway to exit the grand cosmic arena or the multiverse. And we are in this process. And in fact, we're at the end of the process, we're actually leading, you see the human race, the war for control of humanity is so intense right now it's the biggest thing going on in the universe is what's going on planet earth right now. And we are in our living fractals so our cells, our galaxies, our molecules, and Nebula and atoms are star systems. And we are a living fractal of our entire existence in this universe.   George Kavassilas: (23:08) And so there's babies being born in this world that have access to more life force than any of the gods out there, and they're freaking out. And so they've done their best over the last, or it goes all the way back to about 365,000 years. But let's say, just keep it localised. The last 6,000 years has been the most intense in the effort to subjugate, apprehend and subjugate the human race.   Mason: (23:37) And why is that? What are, what are humans?   George Kavassilas: (23:41) Because they are jealous? And they feel threatened by who and what we are as a species and what we're evolving into. Because as a fractal of our entire existence in the universe, we now have an opportunity to integrate into a unified expression and become a fully fledged universal light bang, you know, where we fully integrated back into a unity. And then, you know, you can leave the universe, you can stay in the universe, you can do whatever you want.   George Kavassilas: (24:10) It's, you know, it's, and that's freedom. That's total freedom. That's coming out of the process and it's coming out of all the beings that want to try and lure us and keep us back in, think of the grand cosmic arena as a space. And that's to think of it as a universal stage where one's role-playing for one another and everyone's in character, everyone's in persona. And that's where the God's reside is in that space. They don't own the whole thing, but they only control a very small part of it, but because it's such a big space and you go into their realities and their realms, then you're going to think you're in a whole new universe, but you're not, you're just in their spaces.   Mason: (24:53) I love it. I'm going to bring up, like, I think, I don't think I said it on the pod yet, but it's something Tahnee often. Like, you know, we always enjoy our conversations together and Tawny always. I think she, I think she's talked to you about this, but says to me as well, she's like that's yoga, Rapinoe, yoga, that's original yoga. That's, that's Taoism. That's original Taoism. I think maybe I did mention it before we jumped on the pod. That it's always my favourite thing to hear after talking to you and sometimes Tahn's because your presenting your experience and then offering everyone to go and have their own experience. Tahnee kind of refers to your experience as the Star Wars.   Mason: (25:42) So for her, she maybe doesn't have the same terminology or experiences, whether it's the same thing being perceived in a different way. I don't know whether it's your experiencing more, you know, nuance to the reality and manoeuvring through that. And she's looking at something overarching, you know, based on the original yogic practises and texts. And let's talk about that in where w why is there an original yoga and why is there say like an essence of yoga and an essence of Taoism where we can go, all right, they're talking about the exact same thing, because that's a perception and relating to reality, what happens then? Why is there an original? And now, you know, you mentioned the control of humanity, you know, like, what does it come in.   George Kavassilas: (26:40) Well, as a cosmic concrete, you got to look at a civilization.   Mason: (26:44) Who's the cosmic conqueror here? Like, this is there. This is a fun one, I think, cause like, I'm all I'm thinking. Well, wait, what? What's that?   George Kavassilas: (26:52) So cosmic conqueror is an entity that goes around conquering planetary systems, star systems. And even to the degree of, you know, some of the more hefty gods, but it will assimilate entire galactic system into their structure of the influence in power. And basically it's a shift in vibration. So the reality has changed as well. We're seeing, we're bearing witness to that here. Where we're right in the middle of that drama playing out right here on our planet. We're bearing witness to it. And you can feel the shift in vibrations. You can feel the shift in reality, you can feel the split in consciousness, you know, the pull in one direction and that your heart and your inner being is saying, "No, don't go down that far. That's not going to end well." And where you know, most thankfully most of us are listening.   George Kavassilas: (27:49) Unfortunately, the majority of the population of the world. And I said, us, meaning, you know, soul tribe, soul families, but the majority of the population I'm pointing that direction. Cause I got windows and I can see houses and stuff. Most of the population, unfortunately allowing themselves to be apprehended and subjugated through mind control and the control of their consciousness. And so cosmic conqueror, that's what it does, or study a species, let's say it comes up to a planet and it wants to conquer that planetary race.   George Kavassilas: (28:24) Well, the very immature Conquerors or gods the newbies, what they will do is I'll put it in a form of control structure top down hierarchy and use governance by force. And that's really immature. And those methods have been transcended quite a long time ago, by the more powerful, more sophisticated entities, i think Buddhism bought a warned about these celestial entities which in Christendom, you could call them the gods, and show you've got this thing about the one that wants to be the God of gods claiming to be the God of gods.   George Kavassilas: (29:06) So that's a power struggle in the hologram of the gods in their realities. But they've got a throne and one sits upon the throne and all the others, it's all hierarchy and their whole, all of their realities are built on what people term sacred geometry. So it's all numbers, mass technology and sacred geometry, sophisticated technologies and different versions of light. So that's all the hologram of the gods and the natural way of life and the natural way of love doesn't use maths or geometry or technology in its pure expression. We do tend to use some technologies when needed, but, you know, it's only for convenience or fun, but most civilizations or society's, doesn't even use any technology. It's just a pure relationship with reality. So it's just not needed. And, but the cosmic conqueror.   George Kavassilas: (30:03) ... and the cosmic conquerable approach, a planetary population, and it will study it, and study it, and study it. And it will reach as deep into the reality as it can, and then control from the bottom up. That's the more sophisticated way. And will study the spiritual doctrines, the cultural practises and all that, and will see how it can take it from its original and twist it and slant it and move it over, and so now people are heading in a different direction when they use your version of it compared to the original, and then you give them technologies that they then, that technology becomes the lenses that they see reality through, and then that controls the evolutionary path of that species as well.   Mason: (30:51) All right. So many directions I want to go in. I'm going to bring it up for a lot of people. Again, I really relate to your experiences and I've gone from really feeling your experience to going back and sitting by myself, and then going forth and seeing how much of it is I'm enjoying. There's something in the story, a lot of the time, there's something even the storytelling of what you share that ignites something in me. And then I go away for a few years and I sit and feel, "What does that mean for me?" And maybe I don't experience a nuance or specifics in particular that you, but yet there's some kind of universal truth within me that I get pointed towards, but I really relate to almost the personification of these energies of the gods.   Mason: (31:49) And then, just for listening for those people that are just to seed it in the uniqueness, for [Tani 00:31:57], she may not have a personification of those energies. She really relates to the, experiencing them in the inner world and feeling when a technology pulls her off her natural course, and she will relate in a more kinetic way, rather than having a story play out for her. And I don't know what's right or wrong, but I think that's important. I share it because that was a really important distinction for me.   Mason: (32:24) I might tell you why as well, because how do you, knowing you, such a loving man. I've sat next to you in ceremony, I've experienced your being in that context. When you go in and talk about the gods that desire to conquer and be superior, and sit on the throne that can be, I know, confronting, for people who have been bowing down and attributing their existence to a deity. There's then a journey that goes on, lots of questions to be asked.   Mason: (33:11) I know that, but how, with those forces being present, there, you can see a split happen sometimes where this dips into people's more paranoid, opposition-based, angry, resentful, conspiracy theory, kind of minds, and how do you navigate not becoming either resentful towards, I guess it's good. This information comes up, and if you're feeling angry about it, generally, there's something to explore. You're not being asked to believe anything. You can explore if there's anger, if there's nothing and you're feeling neutral, wonderful. But then if you're starting to feel like, "How dare they," and the violation, how do you continue to go towards your own unification without going to war, getting swept up in the the day to day, conspiracy, paranoia?   George Kavassilas: (34:03) Yeah. And that was something that I, and you, and everyone's been confronted with lately, with the dramas that have been playing out over the last 18 months. So, and for me, it was like I engaged to a certain degree. And, but also always held my own, and just stayed on my own evolutionary path, and really want to focus on my creative process, because we can't think our way out of this, we've been trying this for millennia, right. Thinking our way out of it's not going to work. We actually have to create our way out of this situation that we're in. So for me, that's how I operate in that way.   George Kavassilas: (34:39) The reason I understand more of the personification side of it is because fields of consciousness, they gather, and there's a harmonic resonant field between different expressions of consciousness, and especially ones that have a similar theme. And what happens is they all coalesce and they go into this single expression. And a lot of collective hard mines get created out of one consciousness. That one, like you got the queen of the beehive, or you've got the queen of an ant colony, and understanding these processes and how they function on a celestial level, on a multidimensional level in the cosmic arena. When we're talking about parallel universes and all this sort of stuff, and what is that environment like? What are those ecosystems like?   George Kavassilas: (35:38) So I'm coming from that space. And the reason I do that is because I'm fully engaged in the exo-political, cosmo-political, and I need to have clarity, whereas someone else, that's not their specialty. They have other areas I need to specialise in, they can touch on it, but they don't have to fully engage with it like I do. Do you know what I mean? We all got to honour our paths and what we're here to focus on. And so, for someone like Tan's, she gets it. She doesn't need to have all the details and all the degrees of relationship, one-on-one with these, what we calling personifications of these expressions of consciousness, because, who's the prime creator of it?   George Kavassilas: (36:34) So, because where I'm coming from is creational level, operating on a creational level, because I have to, because of the work that I do. Where a lot of other people don't have to do that, so it's not necessary for people to have that degree of comprehension on the detail and engagement and relationship with these entities, they need to focus in other areas. So that's why that happens. That's how I see it.   Mason: (37:02) I think a really good example is that we've talked about a lot on this podcast, and we talked about on your podcast, Super Woo.   George Kavassilas: (37:14) Thank you. It's a good name, isn't it?   Mason: (37:17) Super Woo Radio is the colonisation of Chinese medicine, and it's a really visceral, I guess, example of what George is talking about. And if you haven't heard us talk about it, we've got lots of backlog in discussing it. You can go listen to my podcast with George on his Super Woo Radio, or the first Rhonda Chang podcast we did called, Chinese Medicine, Masquerading as E, which is true medicine. And it simply goes, you can see it simply at some point, it becomes commodified and mind-based. As you just said, you can't think your way in through this unification process that we're going on. And so if you turn a system, which is based on creativity and perception of the natural order, and nature itself, and you turn it into something that's black and white, systemized, commodified, and can be taught through rope learning, all of a sudden that has been taken completely out of creative process and taken completely out of the natural way and the source.   Mason: (38:29) And so that's what's happened, especially throughout time. It's been slowly happening, especially since 400 AD, I think it is when you first started getting the record of the battles between those who loved the classical, the simple, yin-yang nature of observing the light-based nature of this universe, and the constant transformational process, and the constant creative process. And you are going to need to engage with yourself and learn about yourself and life, and then maybe you'll have the opportunity to understand the uniqueness of each person that comes and sits in front of you. And then you start getting the, 400 AD, you start getting the first, "This herb is exactly for that issue," and them going, "You can't say that if you can't, you can't put a label on the being that is that herb, and the energetic nature in which it's uniquely interacting with the humans, meridians and their systems of chi and their elements. That's impossible, and you're diluting the system."   Mason: (39:24) And then in the fifties, you literally see a new version of Chinese medicine being created, which is what is taught. Traditional Chinese medicine is what people call it, and it's commodified, and it's based on the mind. And it tells you, "If this is happening, then you do this." Although there might be a little bit of that in the generality sense in classical, that is just your opening the door of, "You might see that this is a pattern," and then once you engage with that pattern, it goes, "Now you could become more advanced and start weaving in your own ways that are real."   Mason: (39:58) And that's something, I think about it a lot. I think I use my opportunity in these tonic curves and talking to a lot of classical practitioners and interacting with a lot of TCM practitioners, and they get really angry when I go outside of their system, sometimes. Not all of them, a lot of them. And you talking about never being created, not having a God that created you, and so and so on and so forth. I remember that creates a feeling internally where you go, "Oh, wow, there's some truth there." And that's what a lot of practitioners feel when we talk about this, at the heart of it is just nature. And not being in a place of pathology and Western medicine, and Western disease states and so on and so forth, looking at the organism and feeling the organism as a whole, and being with the chi and the reality of that human. A lot of people that have gone through the Western TCM education go, "I felt there was something not right about that." And then you get the opportunity to go on your own learning experience.   George Kavassilas: (41:10) Yeah. And our existence in this universe is a co-creation. It's based on love, honour and respect. And I respect that I'm in this universe, inside the body of this universal being. I come to your place, Mase, and I respect that I'm in your home. And I'm going to act accordingly, with love, honour and respect. So it's not subservient, I'm not subservient to you. You treat me as an equal, but it's just about respect. Really. It's not rocket science, so I'm not subservient to the universal being. It's a co-creation. However, I do fully comprehend that I'm on a particular pathway, and inner process on the universal scale, and that's how I live that process. When I try to stray from it too far, I'm going to know about it, and it's not just me, the ego, this is orchestrated from the heart of the universe, from the core of the universe, where my being is still there in full unity with the universal being. And it's from there that we project outwardly into our creative process, all different expressions. So there is no disconnect between us and the universal being.   Mason: (42:35) I might just point out, one other thing that was significant to me that I don't think has been mentioned, and the context hasn't been created yet, which was really important to me. And I think especially this day and age, you see there's certain intellectual psychologists now who are coming forth with this bubble bursting and relieving message, which a lot of, whether it's Jungian psychology or, most have always known, that, "Don't pretend that you're better than anyone else in humanity that's done these atrocities. You are capable of the ultimate atrocities, everything that's happened, the dictators and the people at the helm of genocides and all these things, don't look down your nose at that. Realise that what was in them is inside of you." And once you've acknowledged that there is that shadow or that lack of, that capacity. And that's where I remember talking about these gods, and you're saying, it's not like I can judge them. I've been there and had that experience of being these gods who want to dominate, and-   George Kavassilas: (43:47) Yeah. We all have. We all have. If we're here on Earth, and we're bringing our journey through this grand cosmic arena to a close, it means we've seen everything there is to see, we've done everything there is to do, we've been everything there is to be, and we're bringing it all home into our unity. All the unification processes, not all, most, are happening beyond the subconscious, even. You get access to it through the subconscious, and then in the conscious realm, you're experiencing very little.   George Kavassilas: (44:20) Even right now, this beautiful pow-wow you and I are having together right now, it appeases the persona, the ego persona of George, ego persona of Mason, and we're having some good banter. However, there's a whole lot more going on behind the scenes, multi-dimensionally and this dialogue together is like a ripple effect, because of the fractal nature of this world, rippling out through the universe and impacting the universe in such a significant way. And so every interaction we have, the old song Metallica did, "Nothing really matters." It's both, nothing really matters, and everything matters. Once you grasp that, then it's like, "Wow." So you could say from one perspective, it doesn't really matter. But then from another perspective, the ripple effect, it's having an impact, I'm not going to live in denial of that. That's the structure of life. It's the structure of reality, why deny that?   George Kavassilas: (45:15) And for us, for folks like you and I, we're all about taking responsibility for our lives, because we know we're having an impact. So we're going to own it. We're not going to cop out. This is the issue of, and I bring this up in my courses and my lectures and all those seminars. And I'm like, "Well, let's look at all the narratives that are coming." Because this is politics. Narratives are trying to convince the human race that they are something that they're actually not.   George Kavassilas: (45:52) And all the work that I've been doing, the amount of reverence from all the races out there in the natural order that they have for us as a humanity on earth, they're just shaking their heads, and freaking out in awe and wonder, how are we actually doing this? When you look at the onslaught of what is being imposed upon the human race, from every angle possible, the water that we drink, the air that we breathe, the foods that we eat, the trauma-based mind control through the collective media, the control media outlets. And it's just incredible. The militarization, the genetic manipulation now, well, it always has been, but now it's next level. So we're having everything thrown at us, all our spiritual doctrines being hijacked throughout time, and no other race in the universe that is under so much onslaught, like we are. And that's because of who and what we are as a race. And out there, they hold us in great reverence. And we are also connected to so many, everything I think and feel here is impacting many civilizations out there, because we all have agreements, because of the fractal nature. It's like, "Who's our tribe out there? Where did we come from before we came to have an incarnation in this human vessel? And what are our affiliations, what are our agreements?" And if I'm having, say there's an aspect of my being that's a head of an empire, in the past, out there, and I have an interaction and a debate with somebody who was the head of another empire out there, or is, and then we're debating it here, and everything that's playing out here, and we find peace amongst ourselves here, now is rippling out. And, and rather than having intergalactic or interstellar wars, now those peoples understand the codes that are required to bring peace between the two nations.   Mason: (47:56) Oh, that's a fun thought. Fun feeling, I should say. Very fun.   George Kavassilas: (48:02) Yeah. Exactly. But this is the structure that's happening in the background. This is because of the fractal nature. It's too much for our current psyche to cope with all the detail of everything that's going on.   Mason: (48:16) And that's just what, any time you go... Just say, you go back into Taoism and yoga. you can get versions that are out there, they're out there in terms of what's going on, on a universal level and what the intention around a lot of the practises are. But ultimately you go back to all of these traditions. If you look at shamanism in Australia, in South America, the level of awareness of what's actually going on, which can be seen as storytelling, and perhaps for many people it's useful, then, to go, this is just a metaphor for what's going on internally. That's fine. I think sometimes I need to be there. Sometimes it's too much for me when I'm just trying to be a dad, and run a business, and budget. I fly out there. You know what it's like to fly out, or fly in there, I should say.   Mason: (49:10) But I've flown off in enjoying that conversation. But when you get down to the essence of all of these traditions, or any person who's just integrated and has, whether it comes from Taoism, or the people living on this land here, the wise ones, it's always about coming down to yourself, constantly evolving. Look after your body, look after yourself, stay connected to the natural world, and what you can feel and perceive, take responsibility, become a person.   Mason: (49:49) Taoism is all about growing that virtuous nature, and opening, going through the waters of fear, learning what's a really beautiful fear, and how fear helps you interact with the natural world. And then when it becomes illogical and doesn't feel right anymore, and then you go, and then moving through that and allowing that to then bolster you up, and then the Taoists call it, then, the spirit of the kidneys express. It's a [Zhi 00:50:16], which is will, and then that's a will to take on further tasks and responsibility in your own life, and in the world.   Mason: (50:23) And they're all just very simple, just focus on yourself and what's in front of you, which is really useful for me to remember when going through these conversations, and I get this distinction, then I land in myself, and that's something I always enjoyed about you. You're going through your journey. And there's people listening who maybe have a greater sensitivity to the way that you're relating to this, some people who have a very practical relationship with the world, and that's perfect for them, and just directly relating with what's physically in front of them. But nonetheless, if all of this is going on behind the scenes, how do you keep yourself in the flow? What are your practises, your lifestyle, to steady this, to enable it to happen with harmony?   George Kavassilas: (51:17) Good question. Okay. So what I found the most effective way for me was to just put aside all of the belief systems that I had. Right. And I wanted to strip it all down to the most simplistic basics that I could get it to. And what I did was it was more, I'd say it's at the heart of Taoism, or at the heart of the original yoga or Yogi. And at the heart of shamanism, there's this, it's as basic as it gets. We're incarnate in this form on this planet. Okay. I'm getting to know who I am, but who's the planet? And what's this dynamic relationship I'm having? Yeah. So we call her Mother Earth. Okay. That's great. That's a good description. But who is she really, beyond the descriptive of, "Mother Earth?" And then it's like, "Okay. So if I'm incarnate on this planet, I'm also incarnate inside of a solar system. So who's the solar being? And what's this dynamic relationship that I've chosen to incarnate into its solar body?" Yeah. And it's the prime creator of this whole solar space.   George Kavassilas: (52:43) And then, because earth is nested inside that reality. And now what are we talking about? We're talking about ecosystems, we're talking about environment, and we're talking to that prime creators of ecosystems and realities of which we occupy, which means we are in direct relationship with, every moment, that we exist inside these realities every moment, right now, every single one of us is in direct relationship, look, with breathing in her atmosphere, drinking her waters. She provides us with the foods that we eat. And people go, "I'm not connected to Mother Earth. How do I connect?" I'm like, "How much more connected do you want to be?" Right?   George Kavassilas: (53:24) The only issue when people ask that question is, it's just this membrane of consciousness in the consciousness field, it's just a thin membrane. And it's just preventing people from having that consciously aware relationship. But the rest of us are fully in a relationship. Like I said, breathing in her atmosphere, drinking her waters, eating her foods, living the experience of living on her planetary body. It's as engaged and as interconnected into a relationship and intimate as it can get. So the notion that you're not connected to Mother Earth, the problem's up here, not in reality, it's not seated in reality. The reality is, we are all in a very deep and intimate relationship with Mother Earth, and this being that we call Mother Earth.   George Kavassilas: (54:15) And then, the same with this solar being, and the solar system's nested inside the galactic reality. Okay. So now we're in relationship with the galactic being, nested inside the cosmic reality, cosmic being, nested inside the universal reality, and all the way home to the universal being, which is then, from there, then you go beyond the universe, into the infinite nature of life.   George Kavassilas: (54:37) And so, once we understand that these are very real relationships that we are actively engaged in, and it's just a choice away, whether we're going to consciously engage in these relationships, which are already there. So I'm not it's like people go, "I want to be spiritual. And you've got to do all these practises and you got to do this, that, and the other," I'm like, " Well, no, you don't. All you need to do is settle back into what already exists." So I'm not asking people to achieve something that doesn't exist. And you'll notice that there's all these other spiritual doctrines out there, that are all trying to get people to create something that doesn't already exist, and they must go and achieve it, and create it.   Mason: (55:25) Can you give an example of that?   George Kavassilas: (55:28) Let's say somebody who wants to be able to have a high degree of intellect. So then, they must go and do their Kundalini practises to get that energy, to go up the spine, up the 33 vertebrae to hit the eye of God, sorry, the pineal gland, which is becoming a 33rd degree Freemason. Ooh, is there an analogy there somewhere? And then that then calibrates them to the hologram of the gods, and then all of a sudden, boom, they have incredible degrees of intellect and some form of intelligence. However, that's not the natural way, the natural way is relaxing back in, or settling back into a relationship from heart soul lessons, to the heart soul lessons of Mother Earth, to the heart soul lessons of the solar being, the galactic being, the cosmic being, the universal being. Relationships that are already there. And all the knowledge of life resides in that unified field of love. So this is my third eye, not a gland in my head.   Mason: (56:35) He's touching his heart, for those of you on audio.   George Kavassilas: (56:38) Yep. This is where I connect to everyone and everything, and can access all the knowledge of life in the natural way. Rather than, if you look at the idea of accessing the knowledge of life through a gland in your head. Well, I understand that process in that way, I've lived lots of lifetimes where I engage in those practises and those processes, but I know where that ends up. Everything has a frequency spectrum. So, what's the frequency spectrum of the heart soul essence? What range does it have? Eg. example, the unified field of unconditional love for the entire universal realm, existence, and beyond, compared to a gland in your head, which has a very narrow band and can only access a hologram of the gods, can't access the natural realm.   George Kavassilas: (57:42) So, what choice are you going to make? And are we going to be lured into spiritual practises that are marketed really, really well, with pretty colours, and lots of candy, cosmic candy, I call it. And yeah, I'm having a bit of a go, but the reason I'm being a little bit belligerent in this way is because sometimes we need a bit of a wake-up call, and to understand everything has a frequency spectrum in this universe. So when you realise the bandwidth of something, and the realities it has reached into then all of a sudden, hey, no matter what the narrative is, and no matter what the peer group pressure is to get involved in these practises and all these things, what am I going to do? What's right for me?   George Kavassilas: (58:39) And I chose to be. The old, "To be, or not to be, whether 'tis nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune." Well, I made a decision to be, and to stand true. And I suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. I copped a lot of abuse, and occasionally still do, from people who are steeped in those spiritual narratives, which is what a cosmic conquer does. You put control systems in play in a civilization, and then you build spiritual narratives around that control system. And now what you've got is, you're using the ultimate weapon, which is love, against that population, because now you've got them in reverence of your control system. And now they're devoting and loving your processes, which now you have overridden the problem of free will in the universe.   Mason: (59:35) I might be annoying and share another little insight there, based on having looked at this for a long time, and something I now relate, because you're having a go, sometimes I'm like, "Oh, that can be triggering for me," knowing that there are going to be people listening who might get triggered by talk of maybe more, and the important is new age, not old age, relating to-   Mason: (01:00:03) ... important is new age, not old age relating to clans and so on and so forth, though I know there's a whole other conversation there. But, to say like a new age relating to practises, types of yoga and spiritual processes, that will initiate you into blah, blah, blah, being this and that. I know that maybe there's someone listening to that who might have a reaction. And I think that's kind of recently why I got into comedy for myself. Because I found the most useful thing that ever happened was even when there's an introduction to an idea like that in your insights and distinctions, say around the third eye pineal gland, and it's a good check because if you find yourself, and I'll speak from personal experience around other things, not that one, but if you find yourself getting charged from that challenge or insight, charged in a way of, "I feel opposed to that, and that offends me and I'm defensive," or, charged in the way of like, "Yeah, like bloody tell them for me," it shows that I've got some work of relating to that conversation in general.   Mason: (01:01:10) And I know there's been times with some things that you've presented and I felt a bit triggered and I've gone, "Okay, let me sit with it." And then I will find the place to relate to, like a practise or something I'm going through, that maybe I thought, "Oh no, that's bad because that's not what George believes in". But then I find that place where I'm not charged in terms of, kicking back against what you've said, or going and accepting what you said, "How do I relate to this right now?" And sometimes it's like, I just need to experience it for myself.   George Kavassilas: (01:01:44) It has to be that way.   Mason: (01:01:45) Yeah.   George Kavassilas: (01:01:46) It has to be personally experienced. It's not because someone says so. And I share that in all of my courses and all of my teachings and everything. Don't take my word for it. I said, don't give your power over to me. I don't want it. Everybody needs to really stand in their own experiential journey, and the concepts that I share, we can have a bit of an idea about what I'm talking about, but until you actually experience it, that's the only time you're really going to get it, that's the only time you'll know for sure. So it is definitely an experiential journey.   Mason: (01:02:18) And I just recommend everyone goes. It's the same way I do comedy, because if you get offended by something that I do and it's like, all right, well then. Most likely, you want to see why you're rejecting or defiant and see how your identity is wrapped up in something and come back to, maybe you don't change anything, but your relationship can become more natural and organic because you'll see that if you're wanting to side and make George's stuff now an ideology, or if you're resistant to George's stuff then, perhaps there's some you know a little bit of work to sit there with that until perhaps you can approach it neutrally.   George Kavassilas: (01:02:56) And for some people it's not their time to transcend those systems. So they will see what I'm saying as an aberration or something along those lines and [crosstalk 01:03:10] ever resonate with it. And that's fine. Everyone should just go on their journey, their soul journey. That's the path they're supposed to be on. There is a process of me helping to snap out of the trance and from the Gods, the trance of the Gods to... That's some of the work that I do and help to-   Mason: (01:03:35) Would you go into that? Do you mind?   George Kavassilas: (01:03:38) Okay, sure.   Mason: (01:03:41) Do you mind? Because I just thought, we've already scratched the surface. One of your workshops is-   George Kavassilas: (01:03:45) Transcending the God Matrix.   Mason: (01:03:46) Yeah. I'd love to hear where you're at with that work.   George Kavassilas: (01:03:52) Yeah. Well, tomorrow morning starts my next online version of that. And I've been doing in-person retreats, where it's 5 day... The course runs for 5 days. And so it's 7 days total check-in, check-out day before, day after. So it's a 7 day immersive retreat in the heart of the Glass House Mountains, absolutely fantastic. The law of the land, the way the Aboriginal elders and the spirit of the land has so welcomed the work that I do and the synergy of my work has been absolutely profound. It's hard to explain. And I was involved in an ohre ceremony in the Southern Flinders ranges where they speared a spirit warrior named the Kundalini in my back because I was already on my way to transcending that energy. And they know the [Aboriginals 01:04:47] know that it's not the real Rainbow Serpent energy.   George Kavassilas: (01:04:51) They know it's an impostor inhabiting our tree of life. So it's no mystery to a lot of the natural shamanic, original shamanic processes. It's no mystery to the original Daoists and the original, using all that, what are these energies? You know? And so, but the trance that we are kept in is that repetitive nature of the ritual practises that they have us participating in.   George Kavassilas: (01:05:22) And then that creates that trans state. Or, we go into resonant chambers called temples or churches where people immerse themselves in the chanting and the worship, the adulation, the adoration of these deities. The degree that they need to be praised, they need to be honoured and acknowledged. Once you step out of the trance and you look at it, look at it for what it is. It's, I've got to use this word. It's, it's horrendous, it's horrific. But when you're in the trance, you don't realise how bad it is. You can't see it. You can't see the forest for the trees when you come out of it. Then all of a sudden you can see how it just permeates society, because it's a tangible energy permeating through consciousness. It moves through the field of consciousness and the collective consciousness field of humanity. You know, I can be talking to somebody and I can just see their persona, just shift.   Mason: (01:06:28) Mm-hmm (affirmative).   George Kavassilas: (01:06:28) All of sudden their personality changes. You know, one of the border patrol guards of that field that trance field will slide into that person, have words to say to me, and then slide out and I'm just left there with that person. And that person has no memory of what they've said, or how they said it, and what was projected at me.   George Kavassilas: (01:06:52) And the amount of people that have these experiences all over the world, it's not just me as an individual experiencing this. The amount of people that are transcending this trance, trance ending, ending the trance of the Gods that they have on the human race, the hold that they have on our field of consciousness, and the fact that they solicit worship in the way that they do, and all that adulation and adoration praise. It's a very big issue. It's the biggest problem facing humanity and out of that comes mind control too, which is one of the biggest issues on our planet at the moment. It is the issue of mind control. So, in our relationship with the Gods, we need to reevaluate that, and we're at a stage now where we're entering a phase of, right now, we are readdressing, reevaluating, our relationship with technology.   George Kavassilas: (01:07:46) This is exactly where we're at right now. And so, there is a deity of technology. There is a technological intelligence God. It's not artificial intelligence, it's intelligence that inhabits technology. We've gotta get that right. Stop calling it artificial because it isn't, it's been around the universe for a very, very long time. Many civilizations use this entity to control all their background infrastructure and it's a very powerful force of existence in our universe. And there's a benevolent expression of it and a malevolent, and at the moment we're under siege by the malevolent. There is benevolent supporting us here, of course, but how many people can consciously tap into it?   George Kavassilas: (01:08:30) You know, it's not that easy. And then after this process that we're in now, which will probably last about up to about ten years, we're going to then have to address our relationship with the Gods. And there'll be overlapping between the two, just like there's overlapping between the TI God coming in with it's, you can call them extraterrestrial inter dimensional races, that are ambassadors for that expression of life. And that's what we're dealing with. That's what the military industrial complex has been negotiating with the last sixty years behind the scenes. And now, the implementation of their structures into the public domain in a really big way is happening right now.   Mason: (01:09:14) Did you say TI?   George Kavassilas: (01:09:16) TI, technological intelligence, rather than AI?   Mason: (01:09:20) Yeah.   George Kavassilas: (01:09:21) Yeah.   Mason: (01:09:23) One quick clarifying question around worship and distinction. If you've got the worshipping of say a deity by the worship of the Buddha and saying quite often, it's like, why are we breaking this? If it's, a steadying force in someone's life, what do you see as maybe, a quiet, a hidden benefit that may not be seen when, all you seemingly get is a guide like a lighthouse, how to live with kindness, et cetera, but through worship. What's the glass ceiling that that has versus transcending, the relate... the relationship with God.   George Kavassilas: (01:10:11) I think that's probably about the best question anyone's ever asked me on that subject, I reckon.   George Kavassilas: (01:10:20) So it's called problem reaction solution. So in the dialect that's been created of God versus the devil.   Mason: (01:10:31) Yeah.   George Kavassilas: (01:10:32) There's a drama vortex between these two polarised states. And so what people are being exposed to is more, the devil's work, and distorting, and disrupting, and just changing behaviour for... in a very unpleasant, inappropriate way to be behaving. And then what's the solution that's on offer. Well, that's the love and the light of God, but is that love? And is that light of the deity, the same as the natural order of life? Or does it have a distinctly unique flavour to it?

From this place of harmony and groundedness allows the bridging of heaven and earth, where dreams and aspirations come into reality. Mason was first exposed to the ideas of potentiating the human experience through his mum Janesse (who was a big inspiration for founding SuperFeast and is still an inspiration to Mason and his team due to her ongoing resilience in the face of disability). After traveling South America for a year, Mason found himself struggling with his health - he was worn out, carried fungal infections, and was only 22. He realised that he had the power to take control of his health. Mason redirected his attention from his business degree and night work in a bar to begin what was to become more than a decade of health research, courses, education, and mentorship from some of the leaders in personal development, wellness, and tonic herbalism. Inspired by the own changes to his health and wellbeing through his journey (which also included Yoga teacher training and raw foodism!), he started SuperFeast in 2010. Initially offering a selection of superfoods, herbs, and supplements to support detox, immune function, and general wellbeing. Mason offered education programs around Australia, and it was on one of these trips that he met Tahnee, who is now his wife and CEO of SuperFeast. Mason also offered detox and health transformation retreats in the Byron hinterland (some of which Tahnee also worked on, teaching Yoga and workshops on Taoist healing practices, as well as offering Chi Nei Tsang treatments to participants). After falling in love with the Byron Shire, Mason moved SuperFeast from Sydney's Northern Beaches to Byron Bay in 2015. He lived on a majestic permaculture farm in the Byron hinterland, and after not too long, Tahnee joined him (and their daughter, Aiya was conceived). The rest is history - from a friend's rented garage to a warehouse in the Byron Industrial Estate to SuperFeast's current home in Mullumbimby's beautiful Food Hub, SuperFeast (and Mason) has thrived in the conscious community of the Northern Rivers. Mason continues to evolve his role at SuperFeast, in education, sourcing, training, and creating the formulas based on Taoist principles of tonic herbalism.   Tahnee Taylor Tahnee Taylor is the CEO of SuperFeast and has been exploring health and human consciousness since her late teens. From Yoga, which she first practiced at school in 2000, to reiki, herbs, meditation, Taoist and Tantric practices, and human physiology, her journey has taken her all over. This journey continues to expand her understanding and insight into the majesty (that is) the human body and the human experience. Tahnee graduated with a Journalism major and did a stint in non-fiction publishing (working with health and wellness authors and other inspiring creatives), advertising, many jobs in cafes, and eventually found herself as a Yoga teacher. She says, not earth element, soil element. I like that as well. I go both ways though.   Tahnee: (00:23) Swinging around.   Mason: (00:25) It's a bit more tangible for me, because when I'm ... Every time I do one of these podcasts, it's a really good anchor for me, actually, practise. Everyone at each season, go going into a podcast about that season, and it helps you drop in and really ... And I'm walking around and I'm, "Oh, I'm feeling the wood element. And I'm feeling the quality of wood internally." And that's very obvious because that's wood, it's sprouts, it's growth. And fire's very obvious. Earth though, I'm, "Am I feeling the whole earth? Am I feeling Gaia consciousness?" Whereas if I go soil, this is spleen soil season. It's easy for me to get in and meditate on and feel about ... Feel that quality, that energetics of soil internally. And that's why I bring it up.   Tahnee: (01:10) Interesting. Yeah. Because see, for me it's more like a weightedness and I really relate to that centrality and the gravity of earth, as in it's holding us to it, and it's kind of drawing us back down. And so you think about the energy of fire, which is so high and I can feel there's kind of a neutral grounding at this time of year, which I've noticed in my energy that I've gone from being really busy and really social in summer and feeling quite active, to sort of ... I can feel the change. I can feel this kind of almost consolidation that kind of feels like it happens around this time of year. And earth is present in all of those transitions between seasons, so we feel that energy at least four times a year. But especially this one where it's kind of that drop from the peak of summer, but we haven't quite hit the depth of winter, or even the sort of descent of the sort of metal time of autumn time.   Tahnee: (02:25) So yeah, I can feel this sort of equilibrium, I guess, in this time. And I think it really shows you where you're out of balance. I've just been noticing that in me there's this invitation at this time of year to examine where I'm out of balance and out of harmony. And I think earth, of all the elements, invites harmony the most. The others can feel like they slide easily in one direction or another for me, but this one sort of always feels really grounded and then lands. So I hope that made sense.   Mason: (02:58) Yeah, I mean it touches on a bunch of things I was feeling might come up later, but we might as well dive into it. See, I think that's an important one for me, because I know there's a little bit of back and forth about ... This isn't actually ... This isn't a season, this is just another fulcrum between seasons. Which is true, it's important for me to kind of really ... That's been good practise for me to remember there's those few weeks, or however long it's present for me between every season where I come into the transition period. And I come into that ... Well, everything consolidates. I can fall on hard, solid ground and move between a water energy and a wood energy, which are really different.   Mason: (03:40) But here, in the late summer, always feels relevant because it's always ... It's a time when, A, we've had the summer. So we've never needed grounding more in the year than after summer. And I feel like the way the consciousness of each organ system kind of plays out, the G. Here we're going into the E, the YI, I'm not sure what the pronunciations, "Yee," or, "E," of this spleen consciousness. Being the intellect, the reasoning mind, being able to make judgments and have acceptance. And it's the intellect, the capacity to think and have good quality thoughts, or maybe have bad quality thoughts. After summer, we've just been flying on such a high, it's probably the time when we've been the most active. And potentially we've kind of moved away from say, in winter, you're going to see a real coming forth of our meditation and mindfulness, and really going in practise being the real ... Even though we might do it all year, it's really the focus during winter.   Mason: (04:49) Summer, maybe it's not the whole ... It's not coming to the forefront. And so we need to really ground down after that fire time and really check in with the quality of our thoughts, the quality of our intellect, and really ... And I was reading about someone's ... An interpretation, which really ... Because I love the dreaming aspect of the whole Daoist system. And because it's a big bridge between ... It's a major bridge between heaven and earth, that spleen energy, although there's many organs that play a role in that. This is where we get to really consciously wield the sword of how we are bridging between heaven and earth, or mainly our dreaming. What do we aspire for in our life? What do we feel our destiny is? And that's something that people might relate to in kind of visioning and visioning in that spring season, and having the vision kind of just being acted upon and come to life in the summer.   Mason: (05:48) But that spleen system, that spleen consciousness comes forth at this time of year, in those fulcrums between the season to really sit down, ground our thoughts and our mind, and have a look at basically how we're doing in bringing our dreams into manifest and grounding it from the heavens into this world. And I really like that, because it's probably ... I relate to it because it's probably something I skipped past, and that's where one of the biggest pieces are in this season. It's a really beautiful time to go in and have a look at that inner critic, and that ... Whether it's been ... Are we still remaining constructive? Are we still remaining acknowledging of everything that we actually have done? Are we sticking to the plan? Are we executing the plan effectively?   Mason: (06:34) All these things that our intellect can be like. Because the mind and the intellect, I feel sometimes it gets forgotten in the ... I don't know, in the health world that I've run in. Whereas that's something ... It's just so important for us to make sure that ... Not just have mindfulness and go into space, and not just quiet the mind, which obviously is another one that's really beneficial. But to really hone the mind and sharpen the mind so we can come better at bringing our dreams into reality. And we need to ground, and I think that will be really coming to the forefront for me this season.   Tahnee: (07:11) Yeah. I mean, the word that keeps popping into my head is substance. And I think when you think about what the spleen represents in the body, it's the substance, it's the muscles, and the kind of meat or the flesh of your body. And I think when you are kind of, I guess what I'm sort of ... The tangent I'm going on, having heard you just speak then was, yeah, there's this kind of substance that comes from acknowledging this transition and this element that kind of provides this real foundation and kind of bedrock on which the more lofty ideals can kind of manifest, and the spiritual ... I come back to Master Chia's work, we can't go off into the astro realms unless we have a really strong connection to the earth, and we remember her as mother and as the ultimate source of nourishment, and that we've chosen this reality to have this substantial experience so that our soul can ... Or our spirit can feel what it's like to be in this tangible form.   Tahnee: (08:15) And I think that invitation of earth and that kind of association with the mother, and nurturing, and the sweet flavour and all of these things that it has, it's really a lot to do with substance and with building us and who we become. And yeah, I think that idea of the intellect and the mind, I think clear thinking and clear seeing comes through a healthy digestive function, right? And we've got western medicine kind of correlating this idea of enteric brain, which is a very old concept that's kind of been revived recently, and-   Mason: (08:53) Can you go into that?   Tahnee: (08:54) Yeah, yeah. So basically we all kind of know that we have the spinal cord, and the brain, and all of this kind of stuff. And I think it was in the '40s, or it might've been even earlier, a man proposed that there was a gut brain, which was kind of poo-pooed a little bit at the time, there's no neural cells in the gut, it's all happening in the brain and in the nerves, and all that kind of stuff. And anyway, I think recently in the last couple of years, if not decades, there's probably someone who knows more about this than I do.   Tahnee: (09:26) But just from my research, there's basically been now evidence that yeah, the gut is heavily involved in producing neurotransmitters and in actually ... Stress response and all of these kinds of things. And that actually, yes, it's acting as a brain and it's signalling to the body to do certain things and certain functions at certain times. And so I, obviously coming from the Daoist perspective, think each of the organs is a brain, and believe based on my experience and what I've studied that that's what's happening, is they're all controlling our function through their lens, and our job is to harmonise that function and to harmonise their relationship with one another. And you can think of the brain as a mission control or something, but everything is kind of making things happen.   Tahnee: (10:16) But yeah, to take it back to the spleen, if you think about ... It's sort of this organ that in western medicine has again only recently been kind of recognised as being necessary as a part of the immune system, as a part of our defences. And one of our acupuncturist's favourite words is, "Bonds and boundaries," when it comes to the spleen. But if you think about the mother/child relationship, the boundary or the bond, the bond is very strong and the boundary is very small. A mother will do almost anything for her child. And you tend to see that in people who are ... I'm using air quotes here, "Spleeny." People who have a sort of tendency to bring balance in the earth element is ... They have a tendency to have really poor boundaries, to overstate their bonds, and also to have this kind of mind that runs wild on them. And that creates a lot of anxious thoughts and ... Mas and I are both put your hands up. Creates a lot of anxious thoughts and a lot of repetitive thoughts, and can really-   Mason: (11:14) Well the repetitive thoughts, you always use the word just ruminating-   Tahnee: (11:17) Yeah, digesting, right? And that's the thing that the spleen opens to the tongue, to the mouth. So we receive not only nourishment through our mouth, but also emotional nourishment. And if you have a tendency to over-crave sweet foods, or to need to lean on sweet foods emotionally, there's a very good chance that that's a sign of a spleen imbalance in your body. Similarly, anyone who's holding too much weight will probably also have some dysfunction going on with the spleen, because by its very nature, the spleen's not transforming the food into Qi, it's transforming it into mass, right? Into substance.   Tahnee: (11:53) And so this is not to say there's anything wrong with being a bit chubby or whatever, that's totally fine, but it really comes down to, if you're looking at this system as one of personal evolution, and personal understanding, and personal sovereignty, well then you're using all of this stuff as feedback for your own growth and understanding. And I think when you look at what the spleen represents, it's so beautiful and it can also be so detrimental. Because we all need more nourishment, and more love, and more care, and we need to direct that to the earth and we need to be able to receive that from the earth. And it's that giving and receiving, I think that can be a problem in our culture as well.   Mason: (12:34) Yeah. I mean that nourishment, everyone can put their hands just over there, the bottom of their left rib cage now and just send some good Juju into your spleen, which is the in organ. When we talk about the soil earth element, includes the pancreas, and the stomach being the yang organ there. Someone who was saying it's like the Goldilocks organ. It's not too hot, not too cold, not too soft, not too hard. It's fine, we were just playing Goldilocks at the beach yesterday with Aiya. It's very appropriate. It's subconscious. Subconsciously manifesting the organs into our playtime. But that's something when it comes to ... It's kind of like this ... When you get into your 30s, everyone's all of a sudden ... Me partying when I was 25, Friday night out just flogging yourself, and then you get to 30s and your idea of a perfect Friday night is pyjamas a little-   Tahnee: (13:36) Bed.   Mason: (13:36) Yeah, bed basically. I think there's just a time when your intellect does kind of get honed into one that we'd call adult or mature, or where you become ... Hopefully some responsible thoughts and intellect can start coming forth and you start making more responsible nourishing choices about which form within your lifestyle flow you're going to see consistency, maybe some discipline. But basically that's when you say nourishment-   Tahnee: (14:08) It's stabilising.   Mason: (14:09) Stabilising, exactly. And the other way it's put, that spleen, that the earth is the adhesive between all the other organs. It's what gives them ... It's the earth it's-   Tahnee: (14:20) The hub in the wheel. If you visualise that central axis on which everything spins, if you don't have good digestion, if you don't have good thoughts, if you don't have good boundaries and good bonds, relationships and things that nourish and support you, well then really those are sort of the foundations of a healthy life. You know... One quick tangent I wanted to jump on was Mas was just talking about the stages of life. And in, again, the sort of Chinese worldview, or the Eastern Asian worldview, the early ... I can't remember, I think it's the first fourteen years or it might be seven years and eight years ... Yeah, it's seven years for women and eight years for men, I think. So the first seven years are wood, so you're very yang, you're growing really fast-   Mason: (15:03) [inaudible 00:15:03]   Tahnee: (15:03) So you're very young, you're growing really fast.   Mason: (15:03) Like a sprout.   Tahnee: (15:03) No, it must be 14. Because anyway, you might have to Google this. For the first chunk of life you're wood. Yeah, you're this little sprout, you're growing, if you've ever been around a child, we have a four-year-old, never stop moving. Heal really quickly, run really hot, don't need to wear clothes all summer. You've got a picture in your head of that.   Tahnee: (15:23) Then we go into the fire stage, which is our twenties when we're really burning bright, we're really social and really trying to get ourselves out there in the world. Again, we can all probably relate to that, where there's this real drive and real fire and real burning purpose and passion.   Tahnee: (15:40) Thirties is when we hit that earth time. Yeah. And so we've landed and we've learned a few things along the way. We've learned what doesn't work. We've been burned. We've also worked out maybe where we fit in the world a little bit and we've worked out what we need and what we don't need and so we're starting to... The spleen's job is to... or the stomach and the spleen, their job's to separate that what we want to digest and eliminate the rest.   Mason: (16:06) Sorting.   Tahnee: (16:08) Yes. And that's... I can't remember the words right now, but it's sort and something. Anyway. But yeah, they're going through and determining what's necessary. And so that's really what this stage of life is that we're in, is this more grounded stage of life. And then you move through into the metal years where hopefully you've accumulated some wisdom, but you also give less shit. You're starting to cut some stuff out of your life, you might start to think about retiring, you might start to not deal with people that you would have put up with in your thirties or whatever. And then you're into a more spiritual age later on, where you're in those wisdom years, where hopefully you're contributing back your wisdom to the people around you, your society, your culture.   Tahnee: (16:50) So, that's in loose allegory for the human experience and the soul growth over those years. So, I think those of you listening in your thirties, yeah, you may feel like there's a stabilising and a slowing down and a consolidating, but I would invite you to see that as a very natural process, and something that doesn't need to be fought. Despite what I hear from friends who are like, "Oh my God, when I was in my twenties." It's like, no, now we get to reap the harvest of all of that work that we did understanding ourselves, all the things we tried, all the experiments.   Mason: (17:22) And that's, I think, important. We talk about the anxiety that's out there and we're not going to go into diagnosing anxiety or anything like that, but quite often it's related to the heart. But Tahns said it one day, she's like, "A lot of anxiety comes from that spleen earth energy as well, because you're just constantly chewing, chewing, ruminating, ruminating, ruminating." And when you just said, "Oh my God, when I was in my twenties, I was doing everything right", whatever, whether it's health, profession, there's a little bit of comparison. And another thing that comes into this spleen... Emerging from this spleen energy, is accepting. A real grounded accepting. Cool, this is where I'm at in my life, or getting to a physical practise. Cool. This is where my body is at today without going into all that comparison, because when you go into that comparison, you're going to start looking at your intellect, and your inner critic giving you a flogging.   Mason: (18:19) And so it's really important, I think it's really important for us to really accept this stage of life that we're at and with what's naturally and energetically coming with it during this time of life, or even if you're not in this time of life, during at the fulcrums of the season. And just remember the soil is at the centre of that elemental medicine wheel. And so we base a good chunk of your lifestyle around ensuring that this spleen, earth, soil element is going to be healthy because it is the glue that brings everything together.   Mason: (18:54) All the other elements, the reason there's able to be Yin yang adjustment through the body is because all the elements can pass through the soil and basically interchange and connect with these other elements. It's a transporter and a transformer. And so the spleen is able to... So those let's say the kidneys are able to get water received by them to the liver so it can become more pliable through the spleen. So same as like the fire is able to send heat down to the kidneys through the spleen, water is able to go between lung and kidney through the soil of the body as well.   Mason: (19:37) So when Tahn says it's a nourishing energy, it's a grounding energy. It's why all over blogs and Instagram and people's conversations around health when they've been going to these extreme diets, for instance, or you've been searching for what's wrong with you. At some point, if you will go with the process, you get a little bit accepting of the chop wood, carry water, we're in the Year of the Ox. And there's a little bit of Oxen energy to that soil. It's like, "Okay, cool. I accept where I'm at in life. And I accept I'm maybe not going to be able to find, keep on finding answers, it might be unsustainable if I keep on going extreme. I'm going to have to go a little Goldilocks here and get a little bit more consistent with my diet, maybe with when I'm eating with what I'm eating with, what my schedule looks like." So on and so forth.   Mason: (20:27) So that's always... I feel like we've given a good amount of context to what I find myself, which is, in my twenties, I wouldn't be such a spleen-y person, because I was... I remember really rolling my eyes when I was a raw foodist. I was doing all kinds of extremes. I was fasting a lot, so on and so forth. Because that really worked for me back then.   Mason: (20:51) But I remember just rolling my eyes whenever I heard anyone talking Chinese medicine principles around having breakfast, a nice nourishing breakfast, three square meals, and especially a really good breakfast at the start of the day. Ensure you do physical exercise and the same meditation, the same sequences, get really familiar with the way that you move your body, and you cultivate your energy, talking about like, hey, let's not drown the spleen in cold raw foods. And that is something I feel like there needs to be a real bridging, which funnily enough, that's what the spleen is making this connection between those worlds that are nut salads and smoothies.   Mason: (21:37) I get it, especially during these seasons, it's just so easy versus everything always needs to be cooked. Bringing a connection between those two segments of our own psyche, our own health practises, the health scene, the practitioners, like there's bacterial experts, gut bacteria experts that are just like, cool, whatever. You don't worry about... Just get different pigments and different fibres in. Don't worry about the temperature and so on and so forth. And then likewise, you've got the Chinese medicine, which is just as long as it's all really well cooked and energetically and check with the seasons. But there's going to have to be a little bit of crossing paths and conversation between those two worlds to get a little bit more wisdom there.   Mason: (22:23) But I think it's a good one for everyone to be really meditating on and remembering we're out of balance when it comes to the seasons. Most people have some small spleen deficiency, not most people, but a lot of people. And if you're trying to get back in flow with the seasons, you're going to need to be standing on solid ground. And the place to do that is to have a spleen friendly diet and a spleen friendly lifestyle. So yes, we will probably start talking about a few dietary principles during this season, a little bit of sense and why certain sweet... because it is a sweet flavour.   Tahnee: (23:10) Sadly doesn't mean sugar, though. I think there's a few things in there, just to backtrack a little bit. I think if you think of this concept of alchemy, which is really at the heart of these Daoist and the Vedic's other aspect of the tradition that I study, is the Vedic side of things. And at the heart of that is really fire as the element that really transformed humanity. And I think what I've really come to understand and to have a lot of reverence for is the... We just tried to light a fire yesterday with wet wood and it was a shit fight. Our neighbours probably hate us now. There was smoke everywhere. It was a really unpleasant situation for us and for them.   Mason: (24:00) We brought this [inaudible 00:24:01] all over Argentina.   Tahnee: (24:03) We did. I think that's a really nice allegory really for the digestive system because it's not like every meal is not going to digest well, we can light a fire 99% of the time. But I think over time, if you just keep adding damp wood and trying to light that fire, you're going to run out of chi, and you're going to create a lot of soot in the body, right? You're going to end up with a lot of inflammation and all of this stuff because the body is just not coping. And it doesn't necessarily... We've had rain solid for a week to get to the point where the fire won't light, right? So it's I think the conditions have to be against you or you've created an imbalance. And again, this can take time. A lot of people we speak to are like, "Oh, it was fine", and Mason was fine, when you were raw for a while.   Mason: (24:57) Yeah. Four years was good. And then I instinctively went, I'm going to move before something shitty happens.   Tahnee: (25:03) Yeah. And I think I can refer back to my very complicated relationship with food and see how much damage I've done to my spleen and my digestive function, through everything from disordered eating to controlling too much cold and damp and wet foods, to forgetting to eat because I get so in my head. There's lots of different ways in which I've created any sensitivity really that I have in my digestion.   Tahnee: (25:34) So I think there's this really interesting dance there that each person has to dance for themselves around how sensitive they are. I do believe you can rebuild digestive fire, absolutely have seen it, and I know that it's possible, and I've felt it in my own body where I can digest things I couldn't digest 10 years ago, but I do think there's this really interesting personal dialogue we have to learn to have with our body where we drop all of the bullshit from everyone who's throwing ideas at us, and we just come back into, well, what really works for me?   Tahnee: (26:05) And again, if you think as the stomach as a receiver and a warm environment in which food lands, it takes no knowledge of science to know that you're going to have to use energy to warm up cold food. That's just obvious. So if you're tired and weak, and you're using energy to digest, that's not going to be ideal. And so it starts to look at... It depends. If you feel really vital and you have a lot of energy, a lot of space, it's probably fine to eat a lot of cold wet food. If you don't, then maybe it's time to make a change. And it goes all the way through.   Tahnee: (26:41) And again, if you look at the spleen, if you look at it's role as really providing the nourishment for the blood, again, it comes down to, well, what is blood made of? And so again, we're looking at are we providing the foundations for healthy blood? Are we providing enough fluid? Are we providing enough nutrition? And how is that being alchemised by the body? Which is really the important part, because you can eat the best food and you can eat organic, and you can eat this and that. And if your body's just not doing anything with it, it's a waste of time. So really the invitation of this spleen and earth energy is to transform and alchemise everything that we consume, which does include emotions and even the words that we speak.   Tahnee: (27:20) And I think that's a piece that's often missed when we talk about health is it's what... I've got some stuff going on in my family right now. My digestion has been awful basically since it happened, because, and you think about, again, the archetype of family and what all of that means, there's this lack of stability and foundation for me that I'm now having to rebuild on my own. And so I'm seeing that mirrored in my body and I think there's this real need to remember that we don't just digest food, but we digest energy, and we digest emotion.   Mason: (27:54) Thoughts. Beliefs.   Tahnee: (27:54) Yeah, exactly. And so part of what you digest when you eat a certain way is the ideology of that system of eating. And so I think that's something we all have to just really slow down and take stock of and see where we want to align ourselves, but-   Mason: (28:11) Well, because it becomes your flesh.   Tahnee: (28:13) Yeah. It literally becomes what you're made of and it's that you are what you eat cliche, but it's true, right? If you're unable to digest your emotions, they're going to go somewhere in your body and you're going to hold them. And the muscles are really the overflow for what our organs can't digest. So if you've ever had a recurring muscle pain that comes about when you have an emotional experience, you can start to think, okay, well, let's say it's something to do with stress and the liver, and you might get a sore neck and shoulder. It's yeah, my liver is overburdened. It's created this excessive heat or this reaction, which is now being manifested in my muscle. My muscle's taking that energy away from that organ, and yes, doing the organ a favour, but now, I have a sore shoulder, or a sore neck.   Tahnee: (29:04) And so you can start to look back at, okay, well, what do I do now to nourish my liver chi? How do I support myself? How do I avoid recreating this situation? So you start to use yourself as a little science experiment. As a curious little exploration of what I can do. And I think that's one of the big invitations of this earth energy is to start to nourish yourself as you would want to be nourished. To look at yourself as deserving of that level of care and effortless, thankless care that a mother gives to a child, that the earth gives to us.   Tahnee: (29:43) And then in exchange, we're then able maybe to give that to others and it starts to build out this altruism. And the best expression of earth is this altruistic caring non-martyred, loving expression of unity and sharing...   Tahnee: (30:00) ... kind of unity and sharing and sympathy and understanding amongst everyone. And obviously we don't have that in the world, but that's a really great expression of it. And the other side of it, is this kind of narcissistic, controlling, needy, anxious, overthinking, kind of analysing that stuff. So, we're kind of trying to lean a little bit more on the former and a little less on the latter.   Mason: (30:29) Good. Rant.   Tahnee: (30:29) I've been talking for like 20 minutes.   Mason: (30:32) No, so good. I just went to lots of places just in terms of accepting that nourishment coming our way, because I was just thinking about... I'm going to talk a little bit about fasting and intermittent fasting, but I'm not going to go too deep and I'm definitely not poo-pooing you guys. I'm just talking about like, I think it's really clinically used or used with a very specific intention. I think it's great, but I came to my own conclusion that I don't think it's a healthy thing to have like a permanent inclusion in a lifestyle for me anyway.   Mason: (31:03) And definitely from what I can see, and we were talking about quality of flesh and quality of muscle. And I remember feeling really strong and being in a community of people that seemed really strong and had good looking muscles, but I could never shake that using something like that intermittent fasting, again, not poo-pooing, not saying this is fact, just going on a thought, just going up on a bandwagon, the quality wasn't there. I didn't like the quality of the flesh and the quality of muscle that I was seeing in my peers and I was seeing in myself.   Mason: (31:34) And I don't know why that was. I think because, one, I had a fanatical ideology and that's something I don't... I've learned what it feels like to create flesh from more fanatical ideology. And two, I really got caught in the logic and I think this is where the spleen can get the most damage in raw food diets, ancestral kind of intermittent fasting kind of style diets. All these things that kind of disconnect us from being grounded and allowing our pure logic and intellect to just... And accept the nourishment that's coming for us.   Mason: (32:10) In that spleen season, we can go into like, you know what, intellectually, it makes sense that as hunter and gatherers, we wouldn't be going out and we wouldn't have that abundance. And therefore for me, what I'm realising there is, is I felt guilty about the level of abundance that I have access to here, in this day and age and that this civilization for all the awful things and amazing things that it's done, I have a genuine mistrust of it. I don't accept any of the nourishment because there's other people that maybe aren't getting nourishment based on other political... This is me, my spleen mind running off and going.   Mason: (32:51) I don't actually deserve it. And therefore I try and logic my way or reason my way, intellect my way to a place, where I am replicating some kind of other diet under the guise of getting health outcomes or logic verse just getting grounded and not having to fly off and go for some crazy ideology, but just continuously grounding and starting with that point of nourishment, which is like why I was thinking of intermittent fasting. And then for me, it was huge coming to having a three-square meal thing. I felt like a failure going to that. That's like eating way too much, even though then the principal becomes only eat till you're like 80% full.   Mason: (33:33) But I was like, why am I doing this? Why do I have to eat? Because you're hungry and I've been there. I've done lots of fasting. I love that point when you kind of stop getting hungry. But when I became really grounded and I grounded my intellect in my mind, and I started accepting and looking and thinking about nourishment, accepting nourishment coming my forth, I don't think it's an absurd statement. to think the natural tendency that everyone is going to accept from their mother is to eat when you're hungry.   Mason: (34:04) So I think as well, if people don't agree with what I eat at this time because it's breakfast and lunch and dinner, and they're synthetic things. Breakfast time is something that was created by Kellogg's and blah, blah, blah. I get all that. You go through all that programming bullshit. And then you do get to a point in the morning though, when you're just hungry. And that's what the spleen is. It's very grounded. Well, should I eat or should I not? Should I fast, should I not? Are you hungry? Yes. Okay. Is there something like diseased in you that clinically you've seen that intermittent fasting is going to help you get through that and get back into a metabolic balance or perhaps get your pancreas working in alignment? You've got whatever it is.   Mason: (34:43) I could do it and heal, but then you always come back to the centre of the wheel of the earth and accept that nourishment. And yeah, I just really, I guess I just went off and did a little bit of healing then when you were talking about that. The stomach, sitting in there, I think they say it likes to sit at about like a 38 degrees.   Tahnee: (35:09) Yeah. It's slightly warmer than body temperature. I can't remember the exact temperature, but I think that's... I mean, it's interesting, you're talking about even receiving nourishment because that's kind of the archetype of the stomach, is it receives, right? It literally controls the receiving. It's like a compost bin. So if you've ever composted and you know that if you put too much wet stuff in there, it gets stinky. If you don't add enough dry stuff... So this is-   Mason: (35:32) Great analogy.   Tahnee: (35:33) Yeah. And I think people forget like it's soil, right? So to make healthy soil, you need carbon, you need all sorts of various things. I think the older I get, the more I think we should eat most things in a lot of variety all of the time, as in way more diversity than is probably promoted in a lot of the mainstream diet fads. But I really noticed for myself, if I don't eat a lot of high fibre food and well-cooked vegetables and stuff, if I eat too many starchy things, like spelt pancakes or whatever, I don't feel like my digestion flourishes as well. So I can feel that there's this kind of desire for the body to sort of compost these really natural foods, right? And you think about what we would have had access to. They are things like your fruits, your vegetables, your nuts, your meats, your grains and legumes and things that are prepared.   Tahnee: (36:32) And again, I watch YouTube videos of indigenous cultures preparing food. They spent all freaking day doing it. Like they're not ever eating a Twinkie or anything that's in a packet, like to prepare a legume or a grain that's soaking and that's sprouting and they're mashing and they're grinding. It's a process. And I think we've really lost touch with how much labour it takes to get food to a place where it's digestible. We just kind of plonk some stuff in a pan and eat it. And it's like, yeah, there's actually a lot of effort and time and energy. And that's one of the things that the industrial revolution did for us was it took us away from having to prepare our foods possibly to the detriment of our bodies. And I think we would all agree that hasn't been the best for human health.   Mason: (37:20) To an extent. I mean, there's definitely-   Tahnee: (37:20) Well, yes. Sorry. That's not true. Yeah. There's more longevity and stuff. But I guess in terms of those markets of like wellness, like that's-   Mason: (37:25) Well, yeah. Yeah. I mean, and I was just thinking about exactly that, like it's another part where I draw back. I was just thinking about apples and thinking how... You were talking about indigenous preparation. I was thinking, oh yeah, they couldn't just go grab an apple. And I was like, but there's this amazing thing of like seeds going all across the world and us developing crops and biodynamic gardens bringing us these amazing produce, so we can use all this produce. Most of what we're getting locally and seasonally, pretty much none of it is going to be, for most people listening to this, like indigenous foods coming from this land or indigenous meat's. Nonetheless, that's like that can... But then you start bringing in preparation. We've had such a speed up of convenience, which to the extent has kept people fed, which is essentially a good thing, people to be able to be fed. Then you get excess, you get excess of crap, excess of corn, excess of wheat, and you get GMOs, all that kind of stuff coming in.   Tahnee: (38:22) Yeah. Cheap stuff. Yeah.   Mason: (38:22) But if you come back and you accept the nourishment and the abundance, but then, as you said, the spleen is going to like you putting a lot of time and preparation into... And if you can weave that back into your kitchen, if you can have...   Tahnee: (38:36) Well, I think it comes back to nature. I remember, I lived with a Japanese family. I lived with two. One was very modern and one was very traditional. And in the traditional one, the grandma got up every morning at 03:00 or 04:00 in the morning and she would start cooking breakfast and we would have a proper meal with like a soup and rice and sausage and an egg thing and sushi.   Mason: (39:00) Yum.   Tahnee: (39:00) Yeah. A proper meal for breakfast. And then we'd have the same thing for lunch if we were there and we'd have something else for dinner. And that's literally her gig was they grew the green stuff right next to the house. They bought some other stuff from the market. And I remember thinking, at the time being 16, eff that, I'm a feminist and I'm never going to do that. But there's just something to me, coming back to the earth element, that you can nurture and support and nourish your family through this kind of devotion to feeding them and to making sure that they're fed in the best possible way. I think there's something really beautiful about that. And it's taken me a good 20 years to see the beauty in that.   Tahnee: (39:41) But I think there's something in that, around the connection to nature as well. And if we're talking foods for the spleen, they are really a lot to do with those sort of naturally sweet kind of harvest foods, your grains, your nuts... Not so much your nuts, sorry, your grains, your legumes. You have root vegetables, that kind of thing.   Mason: (40:02) Yellowy foods. Yeah.   Tahnee: (40:03) Yeah. Like your pumpkin or squash.   Mason: (40:05) Squash, sweet potato.   Tahnee: (40:06) Yeah. And I think that if you think about how you feel-   Mason: (40:09) White rice is really a good neutral spleen tone applying food alone.   Tahnee: (40:13) Yeah. If you think about how you feel after you eat a big warm bowl of pumpkin soup or soup potato curry or something, you feel really like hugged in this... I interviewed Andrew Sterman recently, if you haven't heard that one go back and listen to it, but he talks about you want to feel like your belly's purring after you've eaten a meal. And I think just that sense that the foundation of your wellbeing is going to come through having that kind of happy feeling of food cooked with love, chosen carefully for what you need to balance your body and to really nourish and support [crosstalk 00:40:49].   Mason: (40:48) Massive diversity of what you're eating and different types of fibres. I think that interview was amazing. I think that combination of his and I interviewed Jason Jason Hawrelak on that. Increasing, he's just studying the microbiome in getting a diversity of bacteria there. And that's a beautiful kind of like... If you can listen to those and not try and put those two philosophies, because one's like naturopathic and the other one's Chinese medicine, don't try and lay them over each other, but just like the soil earth element, just feel that space between them and feel them communicating.   Mason: (41:21) And then from the other side of those two things that you could be interested in for better health outcomes, you can find what could come the other side is more nourishing and tailored. You've got the evidence on your side and tradition on your side of a capacity to make a family culture and have a food culture, which is going to get you through the other end with your spleen chief flowing, therefore, hopefully your other elemental organs flowing with greater ease, yin-yang transformation happening with greater ease. It doesn't mean everything's perfect in the body, but you're in flow. You're in communion. You're grounded enough to be able to take very specific action as well to manifest your dreams.   Mason: (42:08) And that's something I think, I feel it's probably like there's another little bit of a tangent, but it's something that you do see a lot as people go, like lots of dreams when you're in your teens or 20s, and then you kind of grow up. It's like in Hook, I always talk about Hook. Peter Pan, lost boy, and then goes, "I want to get married. I love someone." And so he goes over and he just forgets all his... Forgets Never Never, basically forgets how to dream and Crow and fight and fly, and how to have happy thoughts.   Mason: (42:48) But then the spleen season, if you're alive enough in spring and you have enough trust and confidence in yourself to start dreaming up and thinking, what would I like? What's going to really light me up and make me feel like I've really been able to do what I'm here to do, which is bridge heaven and earth, and bring some magic to me in this world? And that doesn't need to look extravagant or anything, just allow yourself to be in that dreaming.   Mason: (43:14) When it gets to these earth seasons, it's a really good time to... You're mature and start making your decisions and really quiet your mind. And really ensure that you're being critical and judgmental in a way that's really going to take you further towards living your best life, for a better word, and an expressed life verse being judgmental to others and yourself and critical of yourself, because that does eventually turn your flesh into kind of that energy. And you can feel it.   Mason: (43:54) I remember, after I got out of my raw kind of food worlds, I became quite critical of, and people probably hear the hangover of it, I talk about it all the time, critical of myself kind of falling into those ideologies for just how much I externally started to identify, became a bit resentful towards the health scene. I became resentful to the kinds of information that people would put out there with conviction, not knowing the whole of the system, just doing things willy-nilly, which I saw could put people in danger, which is probably because that's what I felt like I was doing, to be honest.   Tahnee: (44:37) Well, it's interesting about the spleen and the intellect aspect of it. If you are in ideology, that's a sign of spleen imbalance, right? If you think about what a lot of these diets do is they disturb the healthy flow of spleen qi in the body. And that affects the ability, the capacity to think. So people get myopic, they get stuck on, this is the only way. They can't digest that there might be two or three or four or five or six or a thousand different ways to eat.   Tahnee: (45:03) .... That there might be two or three or four or five or six or 1000 different ways to eat or to behave. And so it sort of becomes this my way or the highway kind of a thing. And again, it comes down to bonds and boundaries, right? Like a strong boundary against everybody else, and only my tribe is right. And that tribalism is really not what we need. Like our whole world is incredibly tribal right now. And it's not really in service to the growth of humanity, it's not in service to like our collective growth as people of a country or a state. Whatever your thoughts are on what's going on globally, there's a lot of stuff that isn't really that helpful. So I think when we think about this sense of like what the gifts of the spleen are, it's empathy, it's understanding that you may not agree with someone, but you can empathise with their perspective.   Tahnee: (45:48) Well, if your spleen is out of balance, you're not going to have that. You're going to think that they're wrong. You're going to be black and white. You're going to be divisive. Similarly, it's about altruism and about supporting the whole of humanity. Well again, if you're out of balance, you're not going to be feeling like that. It's about stability. If you're not stable, is it really working? And I think that's the, I mean, that's one of the things I believe very strongly with yoga is, if your practise isn't making you more stable, you're doing the wrong practise for you. And I think-   Mason: (46:17) That kind of links into like looking at what's your relationship like? What's your house like? How is your work life? Before you go out and try and save the world, making sure your own house is ... at least you're in the middle of ... at least you've got to practise consistently and you're getting your house in order.   Tahnee: (46:34) Yeah, and I think-   Mason: (46:35) I don't [crosstalk 00:46:35] like lofty ... I don't [inaudible 00:46:38] get it perfect. And then you can go out-   Tahnee: (46:39) No, well that's liver.   Mason: (46:41) Yeah.   Tahnee: (46:41) Perfectionist liver friend. But yeah, I really do think ... like I think that something we talk about a lot is I look to people who are our peers, or even really well known in the scene and they aren't stable. They aren't people that are steady and consistent. And I find there's something about that that I'm a little bit wary of, because I think, "Well, I'm more interested in learning from someone who's been around for a while and who's really spent time diving into their understanding and their experience." And that leads you to teachers that are older and that have been around a while. And they very rarely teach black and white. They very rarely say there's one way. I mean, "It depends," is pretty much the mantra of my life because it's like there is no right way.   Tahnee: (47:33) And all of this stuff is really just someone wrote this down because someone downloaded it probably from wherever you want to believe. I believe from some kind of source, consciousness. And they've been able to put it down in a language that we don't speak anymore, that's been translated through time. There's lots of arguments about what things mean. And then we're here having this conversation on a podcast, this is our understanding and interpretation of someone else's insight. And we all have the capacity to have these insights and these understandings. And I think it just becomes, again, about how we assimilate and digest these ideas. And so just to keep bringing it back to that spleen element, you're creating the soil of your life through composting everything you come across and turning it into your foundation, your stability. And that's, I think, the piece that is really important, is it's not about, "Oh, it's spleen time and I have to eat pumpkin," it's about what do you notice and observe when you lean in to what's abundant in your ...   Tahnee: (48:37) Like in my neighbourhood right now, there are lots of sweet potatoes around. They're at all the farmer's markets and they're everywhere. It's like, well, that would make sense to me to eat them because they're there, they're growing. And hey, oh, by the way, they also worked for spleen. Isn't that interesting? And I think this is this really kind of interesting thing that you start to notice these things, like you were saying, you start to kind of, year on year, develop and cultivate this deeper level of understanding and relationship with these things just through living, not through trying to put on some, "I'm a Daoist and I believe it's spleen time, and I'm going to do this."   Tahnee: (49:10) And I think that's the same with the herbs. Like if you're working with ... Some people might need spleen herbs a lot, all the time. They might just have a tendency to really go out of balance in that area, and they really need that support. I can sort of be like that sometimes. Other people might feel like they want to work with them around the change in season. Other people might just want to work with them when they feel called to. You can work with your practitioner and find out what's going to be appropriate for you at this stage of life. So I think there's so much diversity in how we approach these things, but-   Mason: (49:44) That's probably worth mentioning. Like when we're talking about spleen deficiencies, we're talking in a very general sense, allowing the soil, the earth Chi to flow smoothly through the spleen stomach meridian, which can mean many things for everybody listening to this, but it's just feeling generally in harmony. And especially at this point, your intellect, the good quality thoughts, beliefs, and then your digestion. And so it's like you look at are you getting bloating? Are you holding weight? Is there IBS? Is there a bit of leaky gut going on? Is there a runny stool? Is there, to a lesser extent, constipation, but still there? And remember, where there's spleen, there's dampness in the spleen, you imagine the soil's just sopping wet, soggy, but then there's damp heat and damp cold. And then when we look at the stomach, we're going to see generally it's going to be heat, stomach heat. And so you're going to look at things like indigestion and reflux and those kinds of things.   Mason: (50:52) But we're not trying to diagnose all these things. Make sure you're with ... If there's something in those areas and really digestively something really going wrong, or especially if psychologically, something you can not, you haven't been able to get on top of it, don't try and do the lifestyle changes. Don't try and shoulder the burden. Remember to accept nourishment, and there's going to be people out there, practitioners, they're going to be able to help you kind of hone in on that as well. But in general, yeah. I mean, when you look at the Qi herbs, they're all about supporting the spleen function and quite often the lung function, because that's what delivers us our vitality and our daily Qi, so all the organs can run and thoughts can move and all that kind of good thing.   Mason: (51:34) So yeah, at this time of year, for sure, especially when here it's so muggy and damp, I like having the herbs in the Qi blend. I felt really comfortable when it came out with the Qi blend, because there's so many ... Poria, is the mushroom in there leading the charge, able to transform that water. If there's too much water. And likewise, guys, all the mushrooms are basically known in Chinese medicine as the regulators, water regulators, like the Warren G of the water in your ...   Mason: (52:08) And then the roots, like Astragalus. So like your Homie Nate   Tahnee: (52:16) Stop.   Mason: (52:19) So it's a really good time to get those moving in, especially the mushrooms, moving that water. Because remember, if that water's ... what's going to be able to travel through soggy, sopping water? You can't ... I can't remember what the word is. Friable.   Tahnee: (52:38) Yeah.   Mason: (52:39) Yeah. Like to be able-   Tahnee: (52:40) Soil.   Mason: (52:40) Yeah, soil. So you think you-   Tahnee: (52:41) Can move through it.   Mason: (52:42) Yeah, you think water can move through it, or especially that's what you want to be able to do ... moving in there.   Tahnee: (52:47) [crosstalk 00:52:47] can push through easily.   Mason: (52:49) Yeah. Cheese can move through there. Worms are going to be able to be present there in the soil. Maybe not. Let's stay in the analogy with that one. But yeah, very general. But mushrooms are always ... I mean, the good thing about Qi herbs is they're all so general and you can't really go wrong. But as Tahn's said, some people will notice really big differences. You make all these lifestyle kind of changes that we've spoke about. Remember that it's a time to get grounded and have a look at your inner critic and your beliefs and all these things. Remember, it's a transitional time. So you do have the opportunity at the fulcrums of the season, as you do all the time, you can tune into that earth energy. But really, if you sit down, stop distracting yourself. That's why people go on social media breaks and like little holidays, because when you stop having all that information coming in, you don't have to digest as much and chew on as much. And therefore you can chew on what's present in your body and make little adjustments, transitions.   Mason: (53:45) Remember, to transport you over to another ... You can transport yourself back over into connecting with those dreams you had when we’re 20, and just with this maturity you've got, and start making really intellectually aligned, good quality decisions. And you have a look, "What's my beliefs that I have? Cool. All right, I'm going to have to ... I might actually start working on that belief." And then you go at it like an ox, like a chop wood, carry water. You just plough ahead and plough ahead at it. So really important for you to do that. But yeah, if you get into the Qi herbs, the mushrooms, you might see that you'll physically may notice a little bit more vitality. Your digestion might get a little bit more honed. It's very correlated with immunity. So it's actually the time of year anyway you want to start ... You always want to be taking the mushrooms as far as I'm concerned. There's a black and white statement for you to [crosstalk 00:54:38] say, that's the exception.   Tahnee: (54:39) Yeah. There's an exception to every rule.   Mason: (54:40) Generally, but Qi, I mean at this point Qi kind of starts really making an appearance, and then I go ... And then I start going real hard as I get into March. And then all of autumn it's like the focus, because they had the spleen herbs and the lung herbs, and then they start really fortifying your surface protective Qi, your [inaudible 00:55:03] Chi, going into winter. And it's important, especially with everything that's going on in the world. There's always immunological stuff going on in the world. Everyone would be in such a better position if we took herbs appropriately, lived a little bit more appropriately for the seasons. But people want the easy way out. And so this is the way that is going to bear fruits, and allows ... Ultimately we want the consciousness, from a Daoist perspective, the consciousness of each of our organs to be flourishing and freely expressed. As we are in alignment with the yin and the yang, we're able to go down in the night, up in the morning, go down in winter, come up in summer. Right now we're going to be ... You prepare. You get grounded.   Mason: (55:46) Prepare, we're going to be leaving these warmer months. Really get grounded and sit into that and allow yourself to feel all that, everything there is to feel, still enjoy it. And then you'll be ready to mourn the loss of the warmer months when we get into the lung season. But yeah, just make sure you don't miss these opportunities. Or even just like start touching them a little bit, and start getting into flow a little bit.   Tahnee: (56:11) Yeah. I think that's a nice segue into ... we'll be back for metal soon. And we hope you all are thriving out there. And-   Mason: (56:22) Well this is a nice one because this is relevant for Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere, since it's the Earth season. It may not be to the full extent of late summer.   Tahnee: (56:31) Yeah. You guys are sliding the other way, but yeah.   Mason: (56:34) Yeah. You're sliding the other way, and it's good to get practise in embracing this energy and feeling that these intentions come forth in the kitchen, or in your practise, in your meditation, when we go between the seasons, and especially when we go between summer and autumn. Any other little thing? No, I think I was just going to talk about saliva being the substance.   Tahnee: (56:57) I have so many other things. But I think, I mean, we have a daycare run to get to.   Mason: (57:03) Yeah, I do.   Tahnee: (57:04) Real life.   Mason: (57:06) Just embrace your saliva during these times, guys. That's the substance of the spleen. I was thinking about [Tani's 00:57:15] teacher, [inaudible 00:57:16] practise in the morning. Chew, chew, chew, chew for a few minutes, and collect all that saliva and then swallow it down and send a little hello to the spleen, with its own essence.   Tahnee: (57:27) Well, and I was thinking if any of you with students out there, it's a really disruptive time to the spleen. So any study, any constant reading, any intellectual work over the top, so too much of it. So it doesn't have to be any, but just like anything that's in excess, then you will feel out of balance. So just remember that's a good time of life to work with the chi herbs and to get supported with the kind of spleen aspect of your life. So try and stay grounded and steady in other ways. And if you are really out of whack because of what's going on around the world, again, probably a time to really work on your stability and your groundedness and your connection to the Earth, and remembering that you've got that ability to just sit and feel and connect. And don't let your mind get away with you. Practise whatever you need to practise to stay sane at this point. But yeah, just these are all pretty spleen disturbing times that we're in. So yeah, lo
