Given the Heat of the week's sunshine, it's time to get dramatic, but not in a criminal fashion, as is the style of the main character of this week's show.Brian Lloyd joins Dave Hanratty and Sonic Architect Adam Shanahan as he directs their attention to some of his favourite and some of the most iconic needle drops seen across the filmography of show-favourite director Michael Mann.Over on NO ENCORE's Patreon feed, you can also find the most recent Album Club episode on Turnstile's GLOW ON from 2021, where Adam shares his thoughts having gone into the record completely blind. This coming Monday Dave and Andy McCarroll will also be taking a look at The Usual Suspects on Film Club, Andy's favourite movie of all time, so tune in to see if Dave agrees or disagrees with that one...Anyway, let's roll camera on this week's proceedings.ACT ONE: Brian saw the new Mission: Impossible movie and gives us a preview, and Adam enacts a pseudo-takeover of the Sunday of this year's Forbidden Fruit festival.ACT TWO (9:01): A little rumination on Kanye's latest controversy, Taylor Swift is served, Creed take things faster rather than Higher, Daryl Hall is once again a curmudgeon (this time about yacht rock), Oasis' new album is fake news according to their management, Foo Fighters announce their public comeback later this year and we return to our beloved Kiss Korner– it's the news.ACT THREE (46:23): Top 5 Michael Mann Needle Drops-Follow Brian Lloyd on Instagram Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast.
In this episode, Shawn and Craig dive into two standout modern rock albums that have captivated listeners with their unique sounds and fresh perspectives. Shawn spotlights Turnstile's "Glow On," an explosive album that pushes the boundaries of hardcore punk with its dynamic energy and innovative fusion of genres. He explores the album's standout tracks like "Mystery" and "Blackout" and his personal fave "New Heart Design" discussing how Turnstile's bold experimentation and infectious hooks have redefined the contemporary punk landscape.Craig turns his attention to Michael Rault's "It's A New Day Tonight," an album that blends classic rock influences with a modern indie sensibility. He delves into the album's rich, nostalgic soundscapes and introspective lyrics, highlighting tracks such as "I'll Be There" and "Oh Clever Boy" & "Sitting Still". Craig discusses how Rault's meticulous craftsmanship and timeless songwriting have created a record that feels both retro and refreshingly new. Join them as they celebrate these modern rock revelations, offering deep insights and enthusiastic appreciation for the artistry behind "Glow On" and "It's A New Day Tonight."
Maura Dayton. Awesome human being.Maura -- in all of Maura's awesomeness -- is a daughter, a sister, a student, a bandmate, an expert in a good many things, and Maura's also my guest for Episode No. 122.Maura might've had the greatest set of parents in all of American rock 'n' roll parenting history.Who knows. Either way, Maura's a person that knows a thing or two about music, has passion for music, loves playing music, and -- oh, yeah -- did I mention that Maura absolutely crushes it in the world of professional photography and can write copy to go along with it?You should check out Maura's Instagram page, and -- why'll you're there -- keep in mind that Maura also plays six-string for Catfight out of Lawrence, KS.There's a hundred other reasons why you should check out my conversation with Maura and stop paying attention to this snoozy episode verbiage, but...I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that meeting Maura was a treat, and I'm super-pleased that we had our visit.Oh, and, shit...I almost forgot: We talked a little bit about a few of Maura's favorite albums. Those were these:Doolittle (1989), PixiesNine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral (1994)Glow On (2021), TurnstileKnocked Loose's A Tear in the Fabric of Life (2021)copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio clips contained in this video. They are snippets from a Phish tune called, "Waste," which is from the 1996 release, Billy Breathes. It's here courtesy of Elektra Entertainment, and -- and I don't say this often -- if it's not a part of your library, it should be. It's 1,000 percent a badass record.

Kevin is on his own again… While 2020 was a rotten year, it did allow artists time off the road to focus on giving us a plethora of albums in the world of Rock n' Punk n' Metal in 2021. This year was “unpredictable” at best, and like we stated last year: Nothing gets us through hard times like music! Some of these groups and albums we've talked about before, but we thought it was worth the time to recognize all of the amazing recorded output of 2021!What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or grouping of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week we look back on another tumultuous year that had its ups and downs, but mostly ups for the world of rock n' punk n' metal (minus the touring). In celebration of the New Year, we wanted to find some nuggets of joy from the last 12-months. We hope everyone's families are safe, and that you are able to take some time to kick back and rock with us! Happy New Year everyone!Songs this week include:Minefield - “Lady Danger” from Minefield (2021)Helloween - “Indestructible” from Helloween (2021)The Bronx - “Participation Trophy” from The Bronx VI (2021)The Night Flight Orchestra - “How Long” from Aeromantic II (2021)Turnstile - “BLACKOUT” from GLOW ON (2021)Mary's Blood - “Hunger” from Mary's Blood (2021)We Are The Union - “Pasedena” from Ordinary World (2021)Creeper - “Midnight” from American Noir (2021)Haunt - “Beautiful Distraction” from Beautiful Distraction (2021)Jason Bieler & The Baron Von Bielski Orchestra - “Bring Out Your Dead” from Songs From The Apocalypse (2021)If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/

Ah, it's that time of year again ... where Evan, Eric and Dan share some "albums they missed" — as in ones they didn't review on the podcast throughout the course of the year. This week we decide to see what all the fuss is about with this https://www.turnstilehardcore.com/ (Turnstile) record, Glow On. Is it https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/turnstile-glow-on/ (hardcore)? Is it hip hop? Is it the Quake Soundtrack? Is it the intro to a 70s PBS detective show? The answer might just be "yes." We give our takes on the new TURNSTILE album Glow On, discuss current hc trends and the crazy 9/11 banned songs list.
Lo debatimos con Cándido Gálvez (Viva Belgrado), Gabi Edge (Can't Keep Us Down, Appraise) y nuestro colaborador Gonzalo Puebla. Enjoy!

Halsey delivers an albums worth of powerful songs and it's particularly worth a listen if you like what Reznor & Ross do with most of the music they touch. Meanwhile, Baltimore's Turnstile deliver a perfect end-of-the-summer bright and heavy rock album with “Glow On”. Greg's particularly excited about this album and we discuss the bands rise in ranks alongside Power Trip & Code Orange.Songs:Halsey - “Girl is a Gun”Turnstile - “Blackout”Jay, joining us from his vacation in Ocean City, wants to talk about Robert Plant. In the years since Led Zeppelin broke up, Plant has produced 11 solo albums. Jay recently decided to give some a try and was immediately impressed by the quality of the songwriting. The experience has left him inspired by Plant's burning desire to rediscover himself in his music and constantly rethink his sound. It's a great conversation.Songs:Robert Plant - “29 Palms”Robert Plant - “Freedom Fries”

Turnstile finally return with Glow On alongside Jinjer & The Bronx, Album Club surveys rock's relationship with industrial hip-hop band Death Grips and their brutal Exmilitary tape, and news bids farewell to Charlie Watts and Eric Wagner while assessing the week's developments with Gloryhammer.
During last week's episode, Steve and Ian wondered if the latest album from Lorde, was going to follow a similar trajectory to recent releases from Clairo and Billie Eilish — LPs with rollouts that feel very muted and underwhelming, but the final product ultimately left them feeling pleasantly surprised. Solar Power, however, never manages to spin the narrative and truly deliver, offering a collection of songs that feel bland and difficult to connect with. The new LP from Big Red Machine does not experience the same fate, with Aaron Dessner/Justin Vernon delivering an album that outshines each of their solo output over the last few years. It marks both of the acclaimed indie artists' transition into a world that feels markedly more “pop,” integrating massive names like Taylor Swift to elevate the project.Last but certainly not least is Glow On, the anticipated new album from Baltimore hardcore band Turnstile. Currently in the top 10 at Album of the Year, Glow On is a good example of how more bands should be making melodic hard rock records. Melodic hard rock is one of the most popular genres of all time and so few people make it now! Turnstile once again prove to be a shining example of how exciting rock music can be.In this week's Recommendation Corner, Steve is paying tribute to the life and music of Charlie Watts, the longtime Rolling Stones' drummer who passed away earlier this week. Meanwhile, Ian is plugging Asbestos Weak Hood, the new album from Ohio emo band Narrow/Arrow.You can submit questions for Steve and Ian at indiecastmailbag@gmail.com, and make sure to follow us on Instagram and Twitter for all the latest news.
This episode of Riot Act is dedicated to Mathew Davies (RIP) On this week's show, we pay our respects to Charlie Watt, the ‘engine' behind the drum kit for The Rolling Stones who passed away on 24th August at the age of 80. In other news, Spencer Elden, the baby on the cover of Nirvana's seminal 1991 album Nevermind, is suing surviving band members Dave Grohl and Krist Noveselic, Courtney Love, photographer Kirk Weddle, the managers of Kurt Cobain's estate, his Grandma, his second cousin, his dog, the first girl he ever kissed and probably Steve if he ever hears this podcast, after alleging that his parents never signed a release authorising the use of the image for the artwork. The lawsuit also cites the image as ‘child pornography' … right you are Spence mate… Albums reviewed on this week's show are Glow On by Turnstile (39:04) Wallflowers by Jinjer (59:20) The Live Long After by Sugar Horse (74:49) and Push by Sons of Alpha Centauri (96:30) This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Chartable - https://chartable.com/privacy
