The Great Myth of the Sun GodsBy Alvin Boyd KhunIt may be that many of you have come to this lecture with the expectation of hearing about the superstitious beliefs of some ancient fire-worshippers or sun-worshippers. You may wonder why we should presume to waste an evening dilating upon the childish fancies of early peoples who could conceive of no more exalted form of deity in the universe than the physical body of our sun. Can there possibly be anything important in the study of such forms of crude fetishism?Let me disabuse your minds of any such prepossession at once. We have not invited you to hear of infantile nonsense of early child-humanity. On the contrary, it is our opinion that there is not a theme within the entire range of religious interest of such sublimity and authentic grandeur as this subject of the Sun-gods. We have come to the persuasion that this is the most important lecture that we have given or shall ever give. In it there is to be found the central thesis of all religion. We have asked you to hear an exposition of the cardinal principle of all true religion. Instead of dealing with an erratic notion of primitive barbarism, we have to present to you this evening the long-lost supreme datum of all high religion. And it is our design to show that religion in the world has drifted so far away from its original base that it no longer recognizes the very first and fundamental conception about which it was in the beginning constructed. The myth of the Sun-gods is the very heart's core of religion at its best.It is commonly supposed that religious honors were paid to the sun as a deity by a few isolated peoples or sects, such as the Parsees and the ancient Ghebers of Persia, and some African tribes. In correction of this view we are prepared to support the declaration that the worship of the Sun-god was quite universal in the ancient world. It ranged from China and India to Yucatan and Peru. The Emperor and the Mikado, as well as the Incas, and the Pharaohs were Sun-god figures. And is the belief only an empty myth? So far from being such, it is at once the highest embodiment of religious conception in the spiritual history of the race.Since the word "myth" occurs in the title, it is necessary to define it so that we may the better glimpse the nature of the subject. To the modern mind the word carries with it a derogatory implication. To reduce any construction to the status of a myth is to put it out of court and render it valueless. We regard a myth as a fiction and a falsity. To show that a theory or a belief is only a myth, is to relegate it to the world of non-reality, and dismiss it from further consideration as a thing of value. Not so with the ancients. With them (the ancients) a myth was a valuable instrumentality of knowledge. It was an intellectual, even a spiritual, tool, by the aid of which truth and wisdom could at one and the same time both be concealed from the unworthy and expressed for the worthy. The ancients rightly regarded spiritual truth and experience as being incapable of expression or impartation by means of words simply. A myth or an allegory could be made the better means of conveying subtly and with a certain added force, the truth veiled under a set form of dramatic presentation. The myth would enhance spiritual truth as a drama reinforces moral situations. It was all the more powerful in its message precisely because it was known not to be outwardly a true story. No one was caught by the literal falsity of the construction. Attention could therefore be given wholly to the hidden import, which was not obscured by the outward occurrence. The myth was known to be a fiction; therefore it deceived nobody--until the third century. But at the same time it was most ingeniously designed to instruct in the deepest of spiritual truths. It was a literary device to embalm lofty wisdom in the amber of a tradition that could be easily remembered, in the guise of a human story. It was truth incarnated in a dramatic occurrence, which was known to be untrue. Outwardly fictitious, but inwardly the substance of a mighty truth, was the myth. And as such it was the universal dress in which ancient knowledge was clothed. To indicate the universality of the Sun-god myth it is only necessary to enumerate some thirty of the chief figures known as Sun-gods amongst the nations about the Eastern Mediterranean, before the advent of Jesus. There were in Egypt, Osiris, Horus, Serapis, Hermes or Taht (Thoth), Khunsu, Atum (Aten, Adon, the Adonis or Phrygia), Iusa, Iu-sa, Iu-em-hetep; in Syria, Atis, Sabazius, Zagreus, Kybele (femine); in Assyria Tammuz; in Babylonia, Marduk and Sargon; in Persia, Mithra, Ahura-Mazda and the Zoroasters; in Greece, Orpheus, Bacchus (Dionysus), Achilles, Hercules, Theseus, Perseus, Jason, Prometheus; in India, Vyasa, Krishna, Buddha; in Tibet the Boddhisattvas; besides many others elsewhere.Likewise in the ancient Mystery dramas the central character was ever the Sun-god the role being enacted by the candidate for initiation in person. He went through the several initiations as himself the type and representative of the solar divinity in the field of human experience. Moreover, the Patriarchs, Prophets, Priests and Kings of Biblical lore are no less Sun-god figures. For in their several characteristics they are seen to be typical of the Christos. From the study of a mass of the ancient material the sincere and disingenuous student becomes ere long convinced of the fact that the Jesus figure of the Gospels, whether he lived historically or not (and there is much question of it even among theologians), is just another in the long list of the solar gods. They were figured by ancient poetic genius as embodiments of divine solar glory living among men, if they were not purely the mythical constructions of the allegorists. These Sun-god characters, of none of whom can it be said positively that they were living personages, were, it must be clearly noted, purely typical figures in the national epics of the several nations. They were symbols, one might say. But of what were they symbolical? That is the point of central importance. They were representative characters, summing and epitomizing in themselves the spiritual history of the human individual in his march across the field of evolving life on earth. They were the types and models of the divine potentiality pictured as coming to realization in their careers. They were the mirror held up to men, in which could be seen the possibilities locked up in man's own nature. They were type-figures, delineating the divine life that was an ever-possible realization for any devoted man. They were the symbols of an ever-coming deity, a deity that came not once historically in Judea, but that came to ever-fuller expression and liberation in the inner heart of every son of man. The solar deities were the gods that ever came, that were described as coming not once upon a time, but continuously and regularly. Their radiant divinity might be consummated by any earnest person at any time or achieved piecemeal. They were typed as ever-coming or coming regularly because they were symboled by the sun in its annual course around the zodiac of twelve signs, and the regular periodicity of this natural symbol typified the ever-continuing character of their spiritual sunlight. The ancients, in a way and to a degree almost incomprehensible to the unstudied modern, had made of the sun's annual course round the heavens a faithful reproduction of the spiritual history of the divine spirit in man. The god in us was emblemed by the sun in its course, and the sun's varied experiences, as fabulously construed, were a reflection of our own incarnational history. The sun in its movements through the signs was made the mirror of our life in spirit. To follow the yearly round of the zodiac was to epitomize graphically the whole history of human experience. Thus the inner meaning of our mortal life was endlessly repeated in the daily, weekly, monthly and yearly cycle of the sun's passage, the seven or twelve divisions of which marked the seven- or twelvefold segmentation of our spiritual history or our initiations. (They were figured at first as seven, later as twelve, when the solar gods came upon the cosmic scene.)The careers of these solar gods, then, were a type of what is occurring to every man who is dowered with the spark of divine soul within his breast. Each one of us has had or will have his festival of conception in June, his birth into the world of fleshly life in the autumn, his spiritual awakening at Christmas, and his glorious resurrection from the dead body of this life at Easter. The Christians say the Christos came once in a single character in history, Jesus of Judea, saying nothing about his coming to Everyman at all times. They present to the world the Only-Begotten Son of the Father, confusing in one historical figure two distinct characters of ancient philosophy, the Logos and the Christos, and making both historical in a human being born of woman. Suffice it to say that neither character was historical in the ancient systems. The Logos and the Christos were cosmic forces, and the erring Christians confounded these "personages" of ancient philosophy with the mundane career of the man Jesus, who was not other than one of the mythical Sun-god heroes, or national type-figures. What a travesty of truth the Christian representation has become! What a caricature the Gospels have made of the divine spiritual principle in man's life! The ancients had no "only-begotten" son because the term used in their systems, miserably mistranslated "only-begotten," was something with quite a different connotation. It was in Greek "monogenes," and in Latin "unigenitus," and was far from meaning "only-begotten." It meant that which was begotten of one parent, the father, alone, not the offspring of the union of father and mother. By the term the ancients meant to designate him who was the projection into matter of the spirit forces of life, not the final product of the union of spirit and matter, or the male and female elements. Had the early Christian Fathers known of the inner meaning of the symbolism of the Egyptian Ptah, as Khepr-Ra, who was typed by the male beetle that incubated in the ground and without union with the female transformed and regenerated himself after twenty-eight days (exactly a moon cycle) in the form of the young scarab, symbol of the new-born sun in the moon, they would have been intelligent enough to have avoided the great schisms that divided the Church into Roman and Greek Catholic bodies over the abstrusities of this very origin of the persons of the Trinity. But Egypt was farther away from Rome of the third century than it is from us, who can now read the inscriptions that were sealed from them. All this ancient scriptural data accentuates the fact that not the historical Jesus, but the spiritual Christ, or the god within the individual heart (as expounded in the lecture on Platonic Philosophy in the Bible) is the subject of the sacred writings of old, and the kernel of the whole religious ideology. Angelus Silesius has expressed this in a stanza which should be a perpetual reminder of the futility of clinging to the historical interpretation of Gospel literature.Though Christ a thousand times in Bethlehem be born, But not within thyself, thy soul will be forlorn; The cross on Golgotha thou lookest to in vain, Unless within thyself it be set up again. And the Christian hymn, "O Jesus, thou art standing, outside the fast-closed door," gives expression to the kindred idea that while we look across the map to localize the Christos in Judea, we keep the spiritual mentor of our own lives standing without, seeking an entrance into our lives in vain.By the aid of archaic sacred books we have been enabled to trace authentically the origin of the name Jesus. And it is of great importance to present this material, because it throws a flood of clear light upon the ancient conceptions of the Messiah and the coming Son, or Sun-god. In this light the name will be seen to be a type-designation and not the personal name of an historical being. It is derived from the two letters (or numbers) which in the beginning of typology symbolized the two first elements, spirit and matter, into which the primal One Life bifurcated. They are the I (or 1) symboling the male or spirit, and the O (letter) or 0 (cipher) symboling the female or material universe. Together they represented the biune male-female deity. We have, then, the letters IO, or the number 10. As the vowels were freely interchanged, in ancient languages, the name was written either IO, IA, IE , or IU, and all these forms are found. Next the I transformed into consonantal value and became a J (as it is yet in Latin), so that we find the names JO, JA, JE and JU, from each of which many names have arisen. When the creation had combined the male and female and the two had given birth to the Son, or Logoic universe, the name was given the form of three letters, and we then find such forms as IAO, JAH, IEO, JEU, ZUE. When the universe became founded on the four cardinal points or the square of four dimensions, the name was spelled variously as IEOU, JOVE, ZEUS, JEVE, DIOS, T/HEOS, HUHI, IHUH and others. In its character as a sevenfold or seven-lettered name, it took the form of JEHOVAH, SABAOTH, DEBORAH, DELILAH, SEP/HIROT/H, MICHAEL, SOLOMON, and others of seven letters. The I permuted with l (el) or 1 (one), so that IE became LE or, inverted EL, the great Hebrew character of deity. The EL and the IAH (JAH), became the most frequent determinatives of divinity, as a host of names will testify. There are Bethel, Emanuel, Michael, Israel, Gabriel, Samuel, Abdiel, Uriel, Muriel Azazel, and many others, in which the EL is prefixed. The JAH is seen in such names as EliJAH, AbiJAH, while the IAH comes in a host of such names as Nehemiah, Jeremiah, Obediah, Hezekiah, Isaiah, Messiah, Alleluiah and more. But whence comes the "s" in Jesus's name? This is of great importance. It is derived from an Egyptian suffix written either SA, SE, SI, SU, or SAF, SEF, SIF or SUF (SAPH, SEPH, SIPH or SUPH) and meaning "the son," "heir," "prince" or successor to the father. (The F is an Egyptian ending for the masculine singular.) When the original symbol of divinity, IO or IE, JO or JE, was combined with the Egyptian suffix for the succeeding heir, SU or SA, the resultant was the name IUSA, IUSE, IUSU, or IOSE; or IESU, JESU, IUSEF, IOSEF, JOSEF. One of the many forms was JESU and another was JOSEF. The final F became sibilant at times and gave us the eventual form of JESUS. The name then meant the "divine son," and combined in the Egyptian IU the idea of the coming one. Hence JESUS was the Messiah, the coming son of the divine life. There was in Egypt for ten thousand years B.C. the character of this functionary under the name of IUSA. Later he was the Iu-em-hetep, which means "the divine son who comes with peace (hetep). But most interestingly, this last word also means seven. Hence Jesus is he who comes as the seventh principle to complete the six elementary powers of natural evolution with the gift of divine intelligence, which supplants the elementary chaos with the rulership of love and intelligence and thus brings peace into a warring situation. Hence finally, Jesus is the seventh cosmic principle, announced in all religious lore as he who comes to bring peace and good will to men. And as such he was announced in the Christian Gospels. But there was more than one Jesus or IUSA or IU before the coming of the alleged historical Jesus.Startling as are the implications of this bit of etymology, a far more amazing denouement of Bible study is the revelation that not only were there over thirty Sun-god figures in the cults of the various nations of old, but there are immediately in the Bible itself, in the Old Testament, some twenty more Sun-god characters under the very name of Jesus! Are we speaking arrant nonsense or sober truth when we make a claim which seems at first sight so unsupportable? Twenty Jesus characters in the Old Testament! Let us see. We have noted the many variant forms of the Jesus name. There are still others in the Old Testament, never suspected as being related to the name of the Christian Redeemer. There are Isaac, Esau, Jesse, Jacob, Jeshu, Joachim, Joshua, Jonah and others. All these are variant forms of the one name, which has still other forms among the Hebrews in secular life, Yusuf, Yehoshua, Yeshu, etc. Joshua, Hosea and Jesse are from this name indisputably. A few might be the subject of controversy.Furthermore, beside these that bear the original divine name, there are other Sun-god figures in the Old Testament under a wide variety of names. They are Samson (whose name means "solar"), David, Solomon, Saul (equals soul, or sol, the sun--Latin.), Abraham, Moses, Gideon, Jephtha and the like. Their actions identify them as solar representatives. Now let us see what the conception of our divinity as a Sun-god in reality meant to the sages of old, and what it should mean to us. It meant that the divinity within us, our divine soul or Self, was itself the Sun-god, or solar deity. And what does this signify in concrete terms for us? Just this; that the god within us is constituted of the imperishable essence of solar light and energy! In short, we ourselves, in our higher nature, are solar gods in potentiality! Our highest nature is an incorruptible body composed of the glorious essence of the sun's energy! The gods in the Bible were always symboled by the light or fire of the sun. We are now enlightened to see it as a description of our nature as veritable truth and fact. We are Sun-gods. Our immortal spirits within us are composed of the radiant substance of solar energy. At the very time we were first assembling the material for this lecture, there came an announcement in the daily press of a discovery by a modern physicist, Dr. George W. Crile, of the Cleveland Laboratories, which practically fixed the seal of truth upon every word we have uttered or shall utter in this lecture. It was most startlingly corroborative of our exegesis. He announced that he had discovered at the heart of every living organism a tiny nucleus of energy, all aglow, with temperatures ranging from 3000 to 6000 degrees of heat, which he called "radiogens" or "hot points." These, he said, were precisely akin to the radiant energy of solar matter. He affirmed, in short, that a tiny particle of the sun's power and radiance was lodged within the heart of every organic unit! The light and energy that has life. What would be Crile's surprise, however, if he were to be shown a sentence taken from Hargrave Jennings' old book on the Rosicrucians, written over sixty years ago: "Every man has a little spark (sun) in his own bosom?" For this was one item in the teaching of the Medieval Fire-Philosophers, and the reason they were styled such. They knew what Crile has discovered, as likewise did the ancient Bible-writers. They based their Sun-god religions upon it. Our souls are composed of the imperishable essence of solar light! We are immortal because we are Sun-gods.But many will impatiently rise to expostulate with us, and ask why, if this was the universal fundamentum of the old religions, the Bible itself does not categorically carry this message and state this central fact. Wait a moment! Who that knows this primary datum has searched the Bible to see if it has nothing to say on the point? We, too, believed the Bible was remiss in expressing this conception, until we searched with a more watchful eye. And now let us hear what the Bible says as to our solar constitution, and determine for ourselves whether it is silent on the groundwork of religion or not. Let us hear first the Psalms. "Our God is a living fire," say they; and "Our God is a consuming fire." "The Lord God is a sun," avers the same book. "I am come to send fire on earth," says Jesus, meaning he came to scatter the separated sparks of solar essence amongst mankind, a spark to each soul. In Revelation the angels scatter the fire and the incense of their seven censers over the earth, among the inhabitants. Then says John the Baptist: "I indeed baptize you with water, but he that cometh after me will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire!" Jesus says: "I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven." (Satan was the descending Lucifer, or Light-bringer, before he was lifted up and divinized.) The fire that falls on Jeremiah's altar and many another in the Bible narrative types the deity coming to dwell with mortals. Says Jesus: "When I am in the world I am the light of the world." Again he said: "Ye are the light of the world," and "Let your light so shine that others may . . . glory your father which is in heaven." The Lord, say the Psalms, "made his angels messengers and his ministers a flame of fire." The New Testament Jesus, following the well-known Egyptian diagram of the Ankh, the solar disk with the spread wings, is described as "the sun of righteousness, risen with healing in his wings." John has Jesus saying that the condemnation of the world lay in that it rejected the light when it was sent into the world. Says Job: "Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. The light shall be dark in his tabernacle and his candle shall be put out with him." Isaiah writes: "Behold all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks; walk in the light of your fire and in the sparks that ye have kindled." We are adjured to "Rise, shine, for thy light is come." "The Lord is my light," reiterates the Psalms. And again: "In thy light shall we see light." "Light is sown for the righteous." "We wait for light," cry the souls in the darkness of incarnation, far from their original fount of light. John declares that the Christos "was the true light" which was to come Messianically for the redemption of our lower nature. And again he declares that with the Christos "light is come into the world." No cry echoes with more resounding intensity down to this age than Paul's exhortation to our souls buried in lethal darkness: "Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine upon thee!" And in Revelation there are those mighty pronouncements: in the spiritual resurrection "there shall be no more need of the sun to shine by day nor the moon by night, for the glory of the Lord did lighten it." And there is no more heartening assurance anywhere in the Bible than Jesus's statement: "Ye have light in yourselves."And these are only a gleaning from the great score of similar passages with which the Bible teems. And still folks will say they find no warrant for the Sun-god idea in the Bible! In Rome the sacred fire in the temple of Vesta was guarded by seven Vestal Virgins, chosen for purity and for psychic vision. If they permitted the fire to die out (symbolic of the light of deity dying out in the heart) the penalty upon them was death. If they violated their sexual purity, they were buried alive in the city. And from the great old Egyptian Book of the Dead we take just one passage among scores: "Lo, I come from the Lake of Flame, from the Lake of Fire, and from the field of flame, and I live." And again, from an old Book of Adam and Eve we quote a great passage in which the Lord says: "I made thee of the light, and I wished to bring out children of the light from thee." If only we had been taught by our religious teachers that our spiritual natures are woven and fabricated of solar light, we should have had a clearer apprehension of our potentialities for divine education.Supplementing all this material from the Bible and ancient scriptures, there is at hand for our supreme enlightenment one grand pronouncement from Greek Platonic philosophy which we conceive to be that lost ultimate link between science and religion. It is the truth before whose altar both science and religion can kneel at last and find themselves paying tribute to the same god,--the god of solar radiance. It is a sentence from the learned Proclus, last of the Great Platonists: "The light of the sun is the pure energy of intellect." Are we big enough to catch the mighty significance of that statement? Is it not the essence of what the modern physicist means when he talks of "mind-stuff?" The fiery radiance of the sun is already the motivating genius of intellect! Matter is itself intelligent and intelligence! Here is the basic link between all naturalism and all spirituality. Matter enshrouds and contains the soul of mind and spirit. The light of the sun is the deific flash of intellect! And the very core of our conscious being is a spark of that infinite indestructible energy of solar light. There is the "seminal soul of light" or the seed of fiery divinity (Prometheus's "fire" stolen from the gods) in each of us. It makes us a god.Armed with this unquenchable fire which is intellect, we are sent on earth to inhabit a body which is described as a watery and miry swamp. The body is nearly eighty per cent. water! It is the duty of the fiery spark to enlighten the whole dark realm of mortal life, to transmute by its alchemical power the baser dross of animal propensity into the finer motivation of love and brotherhood. This life is a purgation--Purgatory--because it is a process of burning and tempering crude animal elements into the pure gold of spiritual light. In Egyptian scriptures the twelve sons of Ra (the twelve sons of Jacob, and the twelve tribes of Israel) were called the "twelve saviors of the treasure of light." An Egyptian text reads: "This is the sun within us, the seminal source of light. Do not dim its luster or cause it to suffer eclipse." And another runs: "Give ye glory as to the sun; he is the chief, the only one coming from the body, the head of those who belong to the race of the sun."With this force of fire we must uplift the lower man and transmute his nature into the spiritual glow of love and intelligence. With it we must turn the water of the lower nature into the wine of spiritual force. Around it we must aggregate the refined material which we shall build into that temple of the soul, that body of the resurrection, the great garment of solar light, in which we shall rise out of the tomb of the physical corpus and ascend with the angels. This is the radiant Augoeides of the Greeks, the Sahu of the Egyptians, in which the soul wings its flight aloft like the phoenix, after rending the veil of the temple of the body. It is our garment of immortality, the seamless robe of glory, in prospect of which we groan and travail, says St. Paul, as we earnestly desire to be clothed upon with the garment of incorruption. As flesh and blood can not inherit the kingdom of heaven, we must fashion for our tenancy there this body of solar glory, in whose self-generated light we may live eternally, having overcome the realms of darkness, or spiritualized the body. Jesus prays the Father to grant unto him that glory that he had with him before the world was, and his prayer is fulfilled in the formation of the spirit body out of the elements of the sun.Who is this King of Glory?--says the Psalmist. And we are exhorted to lift up the aeonial gates, the age-lasting doors, to let the King of Glory enter into our realm. The King of Glory is the Sun-soul within us, raised in his final perfection in the fulness of Christly stature to the state of magnificent effulgence. The King of Glory is the immortal Sun-god, the deity in our hearts; and when at last he blazes forth in the heyday of his glory, and comes in majesty into our lives, then we behold his glory, as of the alone-begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. And when he appears to those still sitting in the shadow of darkness, they report that "they have seen a great light, and to those that sat in the valley of darkness did the light shine." And this light, seen ever and anon by some illuminated son of man, as he gropes in the murks of incarnation, is truly "that light that lighteth every man that cometh into the world."And when that light shineth clearer and brighter unto the perfect day, then, indeed, we know of a surety that we ourselves are nucleated of that same glorious essence of combined intellect and spirit. Then we know that we ourselves are the Sun-gods, and that the ancient allegory is not a "myth," but the very essence of our own Selfhood. The Great Myth of the Sun GodsBy Alvin Boyd Khunhttp://mountainman.com.au/ab_kuhn.html This is a public episode. Daily bread to feed our Ruach.Leigh CaruthersAncient Path of Obedience: Blog series(7.22.24)Good morning beloved family and blessings ! Yahuah has woke us at His will and delight! He calls us His peculiar treasures! We belong to Him! HalleluYah! Share your light with someone who needs it! Forgive that person who needs forgiveness and apologize to anyone who needs one without any expectation of reciprocal action. Do these because Yahuah and Yahusha say so and set yourself free from those emotional chains! Walk as a free man or woman ! HalleluYah! That's what forgiveness does, it sets you free!Yahuah, thank you for the forgiveness Yahusha gave to us through His sacrifice! He forgave us and loved us first so we choose to love Him, and you, Yahuah! Your love is mercy! Our love for you is obedience! We praise you Yahuah with hands raised and hearts bowed. In all your power and might you still want us as your children! Through our disobedience you lovingly chastise and correct us because you don't want to lose one of us. Father, you give us opportunity to course correct every morning you wake us with your promise of mercies made new. Yahuah, we choose you, for you are enough. We want to please you, for only you are good. We praise the love of Yahusha Ha'Mashiach, who saw each of our faces as he breathed His last breath, and spoke His last words,"It is finished." He paid our death sentence as His blood, water, and Ruach poured out upon us! The tears fall like rain in remembrance of this gift of salvation! Living water fall on me and give me a right Ruach! Remove any emotions or fleshly remnants that might prevent this! Strip me bare so I can be clothed in white linen. HalleluYah for the Risen Son, Yahusha Ha'Mashiach, King of Kings, Prince of Peace! We lift all brothers and sisters here and in the body of Yahusha, and in all called out assemblies all over the world, and ask for your healing hands upon all! We all cry out for your healing in one way or another but if your plan is not to heal, not to remove the difficulty, or its not time yet, then strengthen us so we can endure. Give us fortitude to smile and just keep walking, just keep sharing your words and truth, just keep going! Oh Yahuah, thank you, thank you, for all you provide! Thank you for blessings that abound! Thank you for the breath in our lungs and the beating of our hearts! You are enough! We will keep praising and praying, in the meantime! In your glorious name Yahuah and in the beautiful name of our Yeshu'ah, Yahusha Ha'Mashiach, with reverence of the Ruach Ha'Qodesh, we pray, let it be so, and LET YOUR KINGDOM COME!! AMEIN, AMEIN, AMEIN! Praise Yahuah for this day

Be happy knowing that Yahuah woke you today at his will and delight! HalleluYah for the love of a Father who knows all your needs and hears your prayers! Father, Yahuah, we worship you with hands raised, hearts bowed, and praises from our lips. Father, speak to us of your will and way everyday. Lead us along your ancient path to the gates of your Kingdom. Yahuah, we pray for humble hearts willing to simply do your will regardless of how difficult it may seem or what we may have to give up to do so, for your rewards are eternal, and available to all who pick up their cross daily and follow the footsteps of Mashiach. Father, help us realize that we really only love you as much as we love the person we love the least. Strengthen us so we may love our enemies, pray for those who wish us harm, and forgive those who are or aren't aware or sorry for wrongs they've committed against us. Strengthen us to be humble and meek because it takes great strength to accomplish the task of becoming less so Mashiach can become more. Give us reasoning over our flesh. Put your words in our mouths everyday. Put your works in our hands. Write your Torah on our hearts and imprint it in our minds. Fill our ears with your promises and encouragement and our eyes with visions of your glory and magnificence. Keep our feet following Yahusha to your gates and we pray we are found worthy to enter in. The Messianic Jewish Moment

It is very important that we know WHO we are praying to!

Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour

The Shulhan Aruch (Orah Haim 303) explicitly forbids combing one's hair on Shabbat, given that combing invariably results in the removal of some hairs from the head (listen to audio recording for precise citation). Pulling hair from one's head on Shabbat falls under the category of Gozez – shearing. During the construction of the Mishkan, the hair of animals was removed from the skin as part of the process of preparing the skin for use in the Mishkan. Since the Shabbat prohibitions are modeled after the categories of work done in the construction of the Mishkan, it is similarly forbidden to remove hair from one's head on Shabbat. As a result, one may not comb his hair, as this always causes hairs to be removed. At first glance, one might argue that this should be permissible on Shabbat due to the principle of "Melacha She'ena Sericha Le'gufa." This principle makes an exception in cases where the person's action is not intended for the purpose of the Melacha (forbidden act). Here, the individual's intent is to comb his hair, not to remove hair, and this would therefore seemingly qualify as a "Melacha She'ena Sericha Le'gufa." The Ran (Rabbenu Nisim of Gerona, Spain, 1290-1380), however, refutes this argument, noting that in the original Melacha of Gozez, during the construction of the Mishkan, the intent was not the removal of the animal's hair per se. The hair was removed for the purpose of preparing the skin, and not to use the hair. Therefore, since the model of Gozez is a case where the act was not performed for the purpose of hair removal, the prohibition similarly applies to all cases of hair removal, even if this is not the person's objective or intent.Another argument that could be raised is the fact that one has no interest in removing hair while combing. His concern is not that hairs should fall, but rather that he look presentable, and therefore perhaps it should be permitted. The Sha'ar Ha'siyun (notes to the Mishna Berura by that work's author, Rabbi Yisrael Meir Kagan, 1839-1933), however, notes that since one cannot comb his hair without causing hairs to fall, he is considered as though he wants the hairs to fall, and combing is therefore forbidden. The Mishna Berura cites the Yeshu'ot Yaakob as decrying the fact that so many people are unaware of or unwilling to accept the prohibition against combing hair on Shabbat (listen to audio recording for precise citation). The Yeshu'ot Yaakob condemns these people as willful Shabbat violators who actively desecrate the Shabbat by combing their hair. The Mishna Berura exhorts Rabbis to teach their congregations about this prohibition, so that hopefully at least some people will be alerted to this issue and will refrain from combing their hair on Shabbat. One should therefore arrange his hair on Shabbat with either his hands, or with a soft-bristle brush that does not uproot hairs. Women must also be instructed to comb their hair with only soft-bristle brushes, and not with regular combs.Interestingly, the Maharam Shick (1807-1879) wrote that if a person appears in the synagogue on Shabbat with combed hair, he is classified as a public Shabbat violator, as he must have violated the prohibition of combing hair on Shabbat. We, however, do not follow this view, given the possibility of combing in permissible fashion, as discussed. A person who appears with combed hair may be given the benefit of the doubt that he combed his hair through permissible means. In any event, this is a Halacha of which many people are unfortunately unaware, and something that we should all be mindful of.Summary: It is strictly forbidden to comb one's hair on Shabbat, except with one's hands or with a soft-bristle brush. This applies to both men and women.

Discussed the Gemara which teaches the correct way to give Tochacha (rebuke), as illustrated by the story of R' Yehoshua Ben Prachya and Yeshu. Ksav Sofer in Vayigash explains that proper Tochacha is motivated by love, and not rebuking someone is a form of Sinas Chinum, which led to the destruction of the first Bais Hamikdash.

Imagine serving on a jury. You have the testimony of one witness that the defendant committed the crime. Do you convict? Well, maybe. It depends on what you believe about the truthfulness of the witness and his or her motivation. Now, imagine you had the testimony of two or three independent witnesses saying the same thing. I think you'd agree, this makes it easier to convict. The more sources, the more assurance we have the true story. So what about Jesus? Did he really live? Was he really crucified? Do we only have the testimony of his followers? Actually, we have several non-Christian sources that tell us Jesus lived. All of these sources wrote within 100 years of Jesus' crucifixion. Here are some of them: Josephus, a Jewish historian, refers to James, "the brother of Jesus, called the Christ." Tacitus, a Roman historian, refers to Christ and his crucifixion by Pontius PilateSuetonius, another Roman historian, wrote about Emperor Claudius expelling Jews from Rome because of disturbances that involved Chrestus, a Latin variant of "Christ."The Talmud, a Jewish document, refers to Yeshu, a form of the name "Jesus."Pliny the Younger, a Roman governor ruling in areas that are now Turkey, wrote a letter about those who worship Christus, another Latin variant of "Christ." You see, we have more than just two or three non-Christian sources that speak of Jesus. There are eleven. Rest assured, Jesus is real. *"Sources for the historicity of Jesus," Wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sources_for_the_historicity_of_Jesus Please provide feedback and suggestions at: https://www.sparkingfaith.com/feedback/ Bumper music “Landing Place” performed by Mark July, used under license from Shutterstock.

I was telling our kids when they were all young enough to pick them up and move them, we took them out of their beds and switched them to different rooms.  They all woke up like, “where am I?” Last year we made miniature peanut butter balls for our kids out of cheese balls.   Growing up in our house is either awesome or terrible, I'm not sure which…  I love a good joke… But I don't care for them when they are something serious… You know, I think a lot of people don't want to admit it but deep down, they wonder if this God and Jesus stuff isn't just a big joke…b I mean, it sounds fanciful, right? I get up every week and talk about God becoming a person. I tell stories about him walking on water, or healing people, etc. I talk about how he died - that's not so spectacular but then, I talk about how He brought himself back from the dead… Christianity sounds crazy b Unless it's true… Paul understood this, he wrote to the Corinthian church about this because there were people saying that there was no resurrection of the dead…  That once you die, you are dead… Paul says this…1 Corinthians 15:19If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. If it's all a joke, then Christians are dumbest people on the planet…But I have to tell you something. I don't think I'm dumb…So, how do you know if this is all just a big joke? B What if Jesus really did rise from the dead?  What would the implications of that be for your life? What if I could give you some evidence that is worth considering? One of the first things we would have to consider is whether Jesus was even a real person who really died like the Gospels said He did… MUNICH TALMUD. In the 1500's the Pope told the publishers of Jewish works to destroy any mention of Jesus - because they were always negative -so, in the 1500's the family that had the rights to print Jewish Talmud's removed any mentions of Jesus in ancient Jewish lit.-later on they burned all the other manuscripts. Except for the manuscript known as the Munich Talmud-Munich Talmud, existed outside of reach of Pope remained in tact-so, what does it say about Jesus that was worth getting rid of? what's a Talmud?  the Torah = Old Testament. Mishna = oral traditions handed down from Moses. Jesus will talk about traditions of fathers - = traditions are the Mishna. Talmud = rabbinic commentary on the Mishna - make sense?- the Wikipedia of Jewish religious life. Here is what the Munich Talmud says about Jesus…“It was taught: On the Eve of Passover they hung Yeshu the Notzri. And the herald went out before him for forty days [saying]: ‘Yeshu the Notzri will go out to be stoned for sorcery and misleading and enticing Israel [to idolatry].  Any who knows [anything] in his defense must come and declare concerning him.' But no one came to his defense so they hung him on the Eve of Passover.' read 26 page paper on this one paragraph - what basically came down to was because of the nature of the Talmud that most of this paragraph is later additions (like 1300's kind of later) but there is a portion of it that they believe comes from before 70AD - that would mean that there is a portion of this statement that comes directly from Jewish leaders who were familiar with the trial and death of Jesus.  Here is the part they believe comes from Jesus' time…On the Eve of Passover they hung Yeshu the Notzri for sorcery and enticing Israel [to idolatry].We literally just read the charge notes of Jesus that the Sanhedrin wrote down…Pope didn't want people thinking Jesus was a sorcerer and idolater    -but instead of being negative about Jesus    -tells us there really was a Jesus of Nazareth performing acts they considered sorcerer so popular that believed Him to be leading all of Israel to worship God in a different way-this is huge - that they hung him - only way would have hung him would have been Roman crucifixion. Non-Christian source, from time of Jesus telling you  Jesus existed, on the night before Passover -was crucified because He was performing miracles and claiming to be God…This is huge…Jesus existed, but that doesn't mean He rose from the dead. cut to the chase -most convincing reasons I believe in the resurrection  ILLUSTRATION: James brother of Jesus - camel knees because he would go to the temple to pray for the forgiveness of the sins of Israel.  The leaders of the day told him they would take him up on the top of the temple and that He could from the pinnacle confess for all that Jesus did not die and rise again.  James instead got up on top of the temple and began preaching a sermon.  They immediately realized their mistake and they threw him off the temple.   James didn't die - so they started stoning him as he prayed that God would forgive them.  Finally, someone grabbed a club and beat James over the head.   I want you to be clear.  James died because he believed he had seen Jesus raised from the dead.  Period. b Lot's of people will die for a lie they don't know is a lie b A crazy person might die for a lie they know is a lie. But normal people, will not die for a lie they know is a lie.  listen to this…All the apostles (except the apostle John) died because they claimed to have seen Jesus alive after He had died. This is why I'm a Christian ILLUSTRATION: In 2017 around Christmas time in New York city a fire broke out in an apartment building.  The fire started on the first floor and quickly engulfed the 5 story building with flames.  A 28 year old soldier, Emmanuel Mensah was on leave for Christmas and was staying in the apartment with his friends a couple and their 4 children.  Mensah immediately snapped into action and helped get the family of 6 out of the apartment building.  But then he did something heroic.  He went back into the blaze to rescue four more people.  He ran in to try and save a 5th and never returned.  He died in the blaze, a hero, giving his own life so that others could live, dying trying to rescue. As I thought about how the apostles died, clinging to the truth that they witnessed Jesus alive after his own death. b It hit me that they Stood in the Gap, giving their life so I could trust the life Jesus offers me.  Offers you… I told you, I believe in the resurrection because they were willing to die for it.  If they hadn't have died and suffered as well, I don't know that you could convince me that Jesus rose from the dead. But they went into the burning building of death in order to rescue me.  To rescue you. Can you imagine someone who was saved by Mensah talking to his dad and saying “eh, it's not that big of a deal that he died to save me… My guess is for the rest of those peoples lives they will remember the man who went in after them to save their lives. I'm telling you, not only did God come down after you to rescue your life and give you new life b But those who witnessed His life gave their life as well, so you could trust the testimony. why turn back to life as you've known it? Listen, my hope is that today you've been challenged in a way you didn't know you needed to be challenged.-challenged to find true life I want to ask you to consider making a commitment this morning. over the next several weeks, I'm going to be doing a sermon Series called Standing in the Gap, and we are going to be talking about how you can stand in the Gap for future generations as well - and you don't even have to die for it. So, my challenge is this.  Would you try a new experiment and choose to come to church for the next 4 weeks in a row and see what God can do? see if you connecting with the resurrected Jesus isn't as life changing for you as it was for me?

Danielle Drori discusses Zionism and translation, with a focus on Klausner's Life of Jesus Abstract: The literary critic, historian, and Hebrew writer Yosef Klausner has never been as widely known and as celebrated as some of his mentors and interlocutors in the Zionist movement. His competing alliances may explain this. He aligned himself with Jabotinsky's brand of Zionism, admired Herzl, and owed his career as an influential editor to Ahad Ha'am. He also published, in the early 1920s, a controversial Hebrew study of the life and times of Jesus Christ, based on his German-language doctoral dissertation. This presentation will tell the story behind this English translation and revisit some of Klausner's ideas about Jewish history, the Hebrew language, and monotheism. It will suggest that the translation of Klausner's Yeshu ha-notsri, executed by an Anglican priest in Jerusalem shortly after the Hebrew book's publication, allows for reassessing some of the foundational tensions that shaped early Zionist thought: between Semitic and European languages, the Jewish “diaspora” and Jerusalem, and Jews and Christians. Bio: Danielle Drori teaches modern Hebrew literature at Oxford University. She holds a PhD in Hebrew and Judaic Studies from New York University, and has taught at the City University of New York and the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research. The Connection Between Berit Mila and Speech

As discussed in a previous edition of Daily Halacha, there is a custom widely observed among Ashkenazim to have a special Se’uda on the Friday night before a boy’s Berit Mila. This custom is mentioned by the Rama (Rav Moshe Isserles, Cracow, 1530-1572), in Yoreh De’a, who adds that this meal qualifies as a Se’udat Misva – a meal that constitutes a Misva. As we noted in our previous discussion, the source of this custom is the Gemara in Masechet Baba Kama (80), which tells of three great Sages – Rav, Shemuel and Rabbi Aseh – who attended a meal which was called "Shebua Ha’ben," or, according to a different version, "Yeshu’a Ha’ben." Rashi explains that it was called "Yeshu’a Ha’ben" – which literally means, "the boy’s salvation" – because it celebrates the child’s successful passage through the birthing canal, which is a dangerous process. We saw several different explanations for why this celebration of the child’s birth is held specifically on Shabbat. The Taz (Rav David Segal, 1586-1667) writes, very simply, that it is held on Friday night because that is when people are home and free to attend such an event. Another explanation is based on the comment of the Midrash that G-d commanded waiting until a child’s eighth day before circumcising him because the child must first experience a Shabbat. The Midrash gives an analogy of a king who wishes to hold a special feast, but insists on waiting until his queen arrives before beginning the celebration. Similarly, G-d wants us to wait for the Shabbat "queen" before celebrating a child’s Berit Mila. Therefore, a special celebration is held on the Shabbat before the Berit, as if to demonstrate that the occasion of Shabbat now allows for performing the Berit Mila. There may, however, also be an additional explanation. As we know from the story of creation in Parashat Bereshit, G-d proclaimed Shabbat a sacred day because He ceased the process of creation with the onset of Shabbat. Just as He created the world in six days and desisted on Shabbat, we, too, work for six days and then refrain from work on the seventh. Of course, G-d did not actually "work" to create the world. He brought every part of the universe into existence by making pronouncements. Throughout the creation story, the Torah tells, "Va’yomer Elokim" – G-d made a pronouncement that something should be created, and this is how everything came into existence. As the Mishna teaches in Pirkeh Abot (5:1), "Ba’asara Ma’amarot Nibra Ha’olam" – the world was created through ten pronouncements. And the verse says in Tehillim (33:6), "Bid’bar Hashem Shamayim Na’asu U’b’ru’ah Piv Kol Seba’am" – "The heavens were made through G-d’s speech, and all their hosts, through the wind of His mouth." And so when the Torah tells that G-d ceased "work" on Shabbat, it means that He stopped making pronouncements. It thus follows that our observance of Shabbat, which commemorates G-d’s cessation of work, must involve also a cessation of speech. Indeed, Halacha strictly requires that we avoid certain forms of speech on Shabbat – namely, speech about financial and professional matters, and speech about our plans for after Shabbat. In fact, the Mishna Berura (Rav Yisrael Meir Kagan of Radin, 1839-1933) writes that some have the custom to speak only Lashon Ha’kodesh (Hebrew) on Shabbat, and many righteous people observe a "Ta’anit Dibur" ("speech fast") on Shabbat, refraining from all speech other than prayer and Torah study. Shabbat is integrally connected to the notion of restraining and controlling our speech, because it celebrates G-d’s cessation of the process of creation, a process which was done through a series of pronouncements. Many sources speak of the connection between the power of speech and the Berit Mila. The Maharal of Prague (1520-1609) observed that the two parts of the body which are most susceptible to the Yeser Ha’ra, which are the most difficult to control and prevent from sinning, are the mouth and the eyes. Sins of the eyes, of course, lead to the sin of desecrating the Berit Mila, and so it emerges that the greatest spiritual challenges we face involve the mouth and the Berit Mila. Not coincidentally, the Hebrew word "Mila" is used to refer to both circumcision and "word," reflecting the strong connection between speech and the Berit Mila. Moreover, the Gematria of the word "Mila" is 85, which is also the Gematria of the word "Peh" ("mouth"). This explains why there is a custom during the period of "Shobabim," which is designated as a time to rectify the sin of defiling the Berit Mila, to observe "Ta’anit Dibur." The effort to rectify sins involving the Berit Mila is integrally connected to the effort to rectify sins involving speech. And the work Reshit Hochma teaches that just as one must avoid "Zera Le’batala," one must also avoid "Dibur Le’batala" (wasting words). This explains why, immediately after a Berit Mila is performed, we bless the child that just as he had the privilege of entering the Berit, so may he have the merit of learning Torah. We wish him that just as one part of the body was sanctified through the Berit Mila, he should also sanctify his mouth by using it for speaking words of Torah. With this background, we might suggest an explanation for the Se’uda on the child’s first Shabbat. As the child prepares for the Berit, he is told also to be mindful of the message of Shabbat – the message of restraining and controlling speech, which is integrally connected to the Berit Mila. Just as we hold a special feast to celebrate the Berit Mila, we also hold a special Se’uda to celebrate the child’s first Shabbat, emphasizing the connection between the Berit Mila and the faculty of speech. The Rama considers this a "Se’udat Misva" because the participants learn this message and become inspired to redouble their efforts to preserve the sanctity both of the Berit Mila and of the mouth. For this reason, perhaps, the story told in the Gemara of the Rabbis who attended this celebration appears in Masechet Baba Kama on page 80 – because the letter representing the number 80 is "Peh" ("mouth"), reinforcing the connection between this celebration and the obligation to preserve the sanctity of the faculty of speech by using it for the right purposes.

The Importance of the Berit Mila Meal and the Meal on the Friday Night Before the Berit

The meal eaten to celebrate a Berit Mila has the status of a Se’udat Misva – a meal which fulfills a Misva. This meal is regarded with such importance that the Gemara in Masechet Pesahim teaches that one who is invited to such a meal and does not attend deserves Niddui (excommunication) for belittling this precious Misva. Moreover, the Kabbalists teach that the Satan expends great efforts to try to sabotage the Berit Mila meal, because of its great value. In fact, the letters that spell the Satan’s name – "Sin," "Mem," "Alef," "Lamed" – have been read as an acrostic for the words, "Se’udat Mila En La’asot" – "the Mila meal should not be performed," because the Satan sets out to disrupt the fulfillment of this great Misva. The reason why this meal is so precious is because it demonstrates our immense love for even a Misva which entails great Mesirut Nefesh (self-sacrifice). The Misva of Berit Mila entails inflicting a wound on a newborn child, which is very distressing, and yet we not only perform the Misva, but celebrate it, showing our great love for Misvot. And for this reason, because this celebration is so valuable and precious, the Satan does everything it can to interfere.Additionally, as Eliyahu Ha’nabi attends a Berit Mila, we must conduct a special meal in his honor, just as a special feast is customarily held to mark the arrival of a distinguished guest. The earliest source of this Misva is the festive meal which Abraham Abinu hosted "Be’yom Higamel Et Yishak" (Bereshit 21:8), which our Sages understood as referring to the day of Yishak’s Berit Mila. The word "Higamel," which begins with the letters "Heh" and "Gimal," can be read as a reference to the Berit Mila ("Mal") on the eighth day (the combined Gematria of the letters "Heh" and "Gimal").This meal is also alluded to in the verse in Tehillim (50:5), "Isfu Li Hasidai Koreteh Beriti Aleh Zebah" ("Gather for Me my righteous ones, those who enter My covenant, for a feast"). The Gemara states that one must attend a Berit Mila feast only if the other participants are righteous, upright people, and thus the phrase "Isfu Li Hasidai Koreteh Beriti" alludes to the righteous ones ("Hasidai") who have gathered to celebrate "Beriti" – a Berit Mila. The Mateh Moshe comments that the word "Zebah" in this verse, which is spelled "Zayin," Bet," "Het," may be read as "Zab Het" – "it flows on the eighth," alluding to the flow of blood that results from the circumcision performed on the eighth day.The Rama (Rav Moshe Isserles of Cracow, 1530-1572) notes the practice widely observed among Ashkenazim to hold a special celebration in the infant’s home on the Friday night before the Berit, commonly called a "Shalom Zachar." The source of this custom is the Gemara in Masechet Baba Kama (80) which tells of a special meal called "Yeshu’a Ha’ben" (literally, "the salvation of the son"). Whereas Tosafot explain this as a reference to the meal held at the time of a Pidyon Ha’ben, when a firstborn boy is redeemed, Rashi explains that it refers to a celebration held before a child’s Berit Mila. This meal is called "Yeshu’a Ha’ben" because the child was "rescued" from the birthing canal. The process of childbirth is dangerous for an infant, and so after his birth it is appropriate to hold a special celebration. The Taz (Rav David Segal, 1586-1667) writes (Orah Haim 265) that this celebration is held on Friday night simply because this is the time when people are home and free to attend such an event in honor of the newborn child. Another explanation for why this celebration is held specifically on Shabbat stems from a passage in the Midrash explaining why the Torah commands circumcising a child specifically on his eighth day. The Midrash draws an analogy to a king who wants to hold a feast, but he decides to delay the feast until the queen arrives. Similarly, the Midrash says, a child should not celebrate his Berit Mila, formally entering into the covenant with G-d, until the Shabbat queen arrives. It is only after the child has experienced a Shabbat that he can undergo Berit Mila, and the so the Torah commanded performing Berit Mila on the eighth day, ensuring that the child has experienced a Shabbat. It is thus appropriate to hold a special celebration for the child on his first Friday night, as the experience of Shabbat is what makes him eligible, in a sense, for Berit Mila. There is also another explanation for this practice. The Gemara teaches that throughout the period when a child is in his mother’s womb, he studies Torah, and he in fact learns the entire Torah during this time. Just before he exits the womb, however, the angel that was with him strikes him on his lip – forming the cleft under the nose – which has the effect of erasing all the Torah knowledge from the infant’s mind. The Rabbis teach that during an infant’s first seven days of life, he observes a period of mourning for the great loss which he just suffered. In an instant, he went from having thorough knowledge of the entire Torah, more than that of the greatest Torah sages, to being completely ignorant, knowing absolutely nothing. This is why the Berit Mila is held on the eighth day, as it must be delayed until after the infant’s seven days of mourning, when he bemoans the loss of his Torah knowledge. On Shabbat, we come to the infant’s home to comfort him, like we visit actual mourners to offer comfort. This is done on Shabbat because Shabbat was given to us for the purpose of learning Torah. Our Sages teach that Shabbat and Yom Tob, when we are free from our work responsibilities, are the times allocated for involvement in Torah study. And so on the infant’s first Shabbat, we visit him in his home and comfort him by noting that he will, please G-d, have many Shabbatot throughout his life when he will have the opportunity to learn Torah and regain the knowledge which he lost. The Satan tries everything it can to dissuade a person from incurring the expense and going through the trouble of conducting the Friday night celebration after an infant’s birth, and the Berit Mila feast. We must remember that these Misvot are exceedingly valuable and precious, and it is worth expending time, money and effort for this purpose.

Christianity has long held its level of morality to be the highest, and superior to that found in Judaism. However, as this class shows, Christian moral teachings, found here in the Sermon of the Mount, are actually all Jewish teachings. This class shows how Yeshu's original teachings were all founded in previous Torah literature. When Yeshu spoke, there were then no Christians, or Christianity. Yeshu was speaking about Judaism, and he was speaking exclusively to Jews. Essentially, what we have here is the Torah of Yeshu, and we find it to be completely in line with and in context with the traditional Rabbinic teachings of his day. This is no new revelation. Church Fathers saw this centuries ago. Readings from Rabbi Gerald Friedlander's 1911 book called, The Jewish Sources of the Sermon on the Mount. The importance of being the light of the world, the light unto the nations. This light is not the Gospel, there was no Gospel when Yeshu spoke this. He was referring to the Torah, and how Israel and the suffering servant in Isaiah, serves Heaven by shing the light of Torah to the world.Various other Jewish laws and observances are discussed. Each show how Yeshu was following the traditional Rabbinic edict to make a fence around the Torah.

This lesson again attempts to distinguish the myth of the Jesus of Christianity from the actual Yeshu of history. The episodes in these chapters indicate the Yeshu was clandestinely building a relationship with certain Essenic organizations, who, as is known, had a reputation for separatism and violence. John “baptizes” Yeshu. Yeshu is thus showing his affiliation with John's separatist movement. He then goes out into the desert practicing a vision quest meditative ritual, the likes of which are still practiced to this day in certain mystical circles. This was clearly his initiation into the Essenic order, most likely, the one associated with John. This group was known in Maccabean times as the Hasidim, and they were known as zealots. It was this same group that assisted Judah Macabee in the Hanuka war, and now Yeshu comes to align with them, hoping that they will align with him. Yeshu then builds his following, and practices traditional Essenic medicinal cures. From our Torah point of view, we see this this segment of the Yeshu story the beginnings of a political party (the Kingdom of Heaven), that would soon vie for political power here on Earth.Yeshu was not trying to save man from their sins, but rather save Israel from the oppression of the Romans. This message comes through loud and clear when the text is read from a Torah point of view.

Yeshu born in Bethlehem? Why would this be necessary when the prophecy in Micah does not require the messiah to be born there?Who were the wise men from the east ? Persian astrologers? Does Matthew's reference to a star over Yeshu's birth indicate a belief in, and practice of, astrology? Some Christian scholars have said yes!Why would Joseph have to travel to Bethlehem for a census that would not occur for another ten years? Also, the census taker would have traveled to take the census, no one would have had to travel to him. Major discrepancies between Yeshu being born when Herod was king, and when this census is taken 10 years later. This indicates that not everything is literal or “gospel truth.”Herod allegedly kills children in Bethlehem, however there is absolutely no record of this happening. All these stories seem to indicate a desire to build a mystique around Yeshu's birth, similar to stories we see today spun about the lives of famous rabbis.John the Baptist, a good Jew, an end-of-days preacher teaching teshuva and mikvah, Jewish concepts and practices still observed today by the Torah faithful. The baptism/mikvah connection. The ba'al teshuva/born again connection. The hypocrisy of the religious in those days, condemned equally by John, Yeshu, and the Talmud!

Laying down the fundamental principles that serve as our parameters for this course. An introduction into Jewish methods of Torah study and religious writings, with emphasis on Midrash, a moralistic, metaphorical rendition of scripture, intentionally outside of its literal meanings. An overall understanding of what it means to be the messiah in Judaism. A discussion of the name Yeshu, Yeshua. Yeshu in history, the Jewish reasons behind the original schism. Yeshu was a political figure, not a religious one. Yeshu was a zealot, reference to the Midrash of Shimon Kipah from Sefer Otzar HaMidrashim, and the writings of Christian theologian, the Manchester University professor, S.G.F. Brandon. Matthew, Chapter 1. When Matthew calls his “rebbe” Yeshu the messiah, his intentions were obviously political. This is made even clearer by the remaining teachings in this chapter. Matthew uses over and over again midrashic methods to aggrandize the genealogy and birth stories of his “rebbe,”with the intent to solidify for him political authority, for the term “messiah,” was in those days, political, and not religious. Discussion of the “virgin birth,” and how it should properly be understood.
