Briar Rose Penney, the steward and CEO of Inner Space KC, exemplifies this philosophy. During today's episode, Briar Rose shared how their unique yoga studio and community space blends wellness, creativity, and collaboration in a way that has not only grown their business but strengthened the bonds between diverse groups in Kansas City.Inner Space KC operates as more than a yoga studio. It's a thriving ecosystem where martial arts, dance, qigong, and tai chi classes meet creativity and collaboration. “We have 12 commercial tenants that rent with us,” Briar Rose explained. “Their rent directly subsidizes our programming and stabilizes our finances. But also, we all kind of would only be here because of each other.” This symbiotic relationship allows the space to host everything from art markets to activism events, creating a vibrant hub where personal care and creativity intersect. One key to this success is Briar Rose's emphasis on building community through intentional care. Volunteers, or “caretakers,” play a vital role in maintaining the space's welcoming atmosphere. “Touch everything—even if it's something that no one is going to notice,” Briar Rose said, underscoring the importance of attention to detail. “The feeling of it being connected with and touched and attended to does translate. People can feel that when they walk in the space.” This meticulous care has contributed to Inner Space KC's remarkable 30% revenue growth over the past year.Briar Rose's approach also underscores the importance of staying true to the values that make a business unique. After a period of trial and error, they found that leaning into their studio's distinct offerings—rather than imitating others—created the consistency and growth they needed. “We had to come back to what was already working and let that show us, ‘Oh, this is how we grow.'”Inner Space KC is currently raising capital through a regulated investment crowdfunding campaign on Honeycomb Credit, marking their second successful foray into alternative funding. Briar Rose emphasized how this approach has opened doors where traditional financing fell short. “Banks really just don't see you,” they said. “The Honeycomb thing was a really cool expansion of my horizon. There are alternative sources of capital out there—you just have to open up to them and look.”By blending business with community-building and creativity, Briar Rose is helping redefine what success can look like. Inner Space KC is proof that fostering connection and care can lead to both financial growth and meaningful impact.tl;dr:Inner Space KC blends yoga, martial arts, and creativity to foster community and collaboration in Kansas City.Briar Rose Penney embraces volunteers as a cornerstone of Inner Space KC's welcoming, thriving environment.Adaptability and a willingness to pivot have been key to the studio's 30% revenue growth.Alternative crowdfunding has enabled Briar Rose to bypass traditional financing and expand Inner Space KC.By building a business rooted in care, Briar Rose proves that community and profit can coexist. How to Develop Adaptability As a SuperpowerBriar's superpower is adaptability—the ability to pivot, learn, and grow through challenges. They describe this skill as a willingness to “try things and recognize that not everything you try is going to work,” adding, “You really just have to be willing to pivot without drama or ego or blame.” Briar Rose's openness to experimentation and their capacity to let go of rigid ideas have allowed them to navigate the complexities of running Inner Space KC with grace and resilience.Illustrative Story:Briar Rose shared how they initially focused on growing memberships and increasing foot traffic at Inner Space KC, believing this was the key to success. However, the strategy didn't yield consistent results. Instead of doubling down, Briar Rose reflected on what the business truly needed. They realized their community valued the studio's unique, niche offerings rather than uniform programming. By leaning into these strengths, they saw class attendance and memberships grow organically, highlighting the power of adaptability in business.Tips for Developing Adaptability:Embrace Experimentation: Be open to trying new approaches, even if you're unsure of the outcome.Learn from Failure: View setbacks as opportunities for growth rather than reasons for discouragement.Seek Feedback: Surround yourself with peers and mentors who can offer constructive criticism and guidance.Stay Curious: Cultivate a mindset of curiosity to continuously explore new possibilities.Let Go of Ego: Avoid attaching yourself to rigid plans or ideas; be willing to pivot as needed.By following Briar's example and advice, you can make adaptability a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileBriar Rose Penney (they/their):CEO / Steward, Inner Space KCAbout Inner Space KC: Inner Space is a community movement, yoga and healing arts center in midtown Kansas City, MO. In this month's kingdom leadership podcast, Rev. Fred Hartley, III explains that God's glory is His manifest presence, the expression of His divine attributes. He warns leaders not to “touch the glory,” using Uzzah's tragic mistake as a sobering example of disobedience. The call is clear: God's glory belongs to Him alone—we are invited to encounter it, but never to claim or control it.

With the Ryder Cup teams for the US and Europe now a lock, a little later in the show we discuss the makeup of the teams and who will win. Mark says the European team is very strong, and tips them to win, Nick feels it will be close and the crowd may play a role. However, we start today talking about one of, if not the, greatest courses in the world - Cypress. Stunningly beautiful, and the venue for this weekends Walker Cup which is not being shown in Australia, much to Nick and Mark's chagrin. Yes there was much chagrin to go around. Chagrin wherever you look.Nick talks about one of his favourite books called 'The Match', and explains the premise....fascinating. Mark reckons it should be a movie and on the off chance any Hollywood type people listen to the pod (we realise it's a small chance) can you possibly make a movie out of it? Hang on.....our mate Michael Peña is back in Australian in a couple of weeks, maybe we can hit him up to lean on his contacts.Mark played Royal Melbourne at the weekend and gives a report on the course condition, the fringes, the greens and the trees. He reckons it'll be ready for The Australian Open, and look a million bucks, possibly except for one aspect, which he highlights. There is another thing about Royal Melbourne that he thinks is not right, and refers to some golf architects as 'mad'.We discuss the pathways news from last week, very exciting. Ernie Els comments about Tiger and the Champions Tour, Nick and Mark both feel it's a good move for Tiger and explain why....and in other Tiger-related news, Charlie Woods got a hole in one at the weekend! We have a listen to it.Nick is excited about the some of the European tournaments coming up, and chats through them.Touch of Class for BMW this week comes from the LPGA and features Miranda Wang with a fantastic performance in Boston. Given her surname, cue predictable and obvious Caddyshack joke!On The Ryder Cup - Mark makes the bold call that Betr don't know as much about this kind of golf as Nick and he do, and that he reckons we'll do a multi that will absolutely rinse Hummer and the team at Betr.Into the Top 5, thanks to Betr, and today it's on the top 5 vistas in golf featuring fauna (and such). Why 'and such'? No idea, Mark said it, we couldn't figure it out. Nick talks about the famous cypress tree at Cypress Point.PING globals from Nick, plenty going on to run through. And lots of feedback covering 'Chokers', Steve Williams, Caddies, some stories on Thomas Bjørn after Nicks comments last week, and on Lyndsay Stephen. Plus a whack for Greg Norman from a wolfpacker....ouch.And Nick's masterclass today is on the 'Pinky Drill'.We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. See your local golf shop or professional for a PING club fitting;Golf Clearance Outlet, visit them online here to find your nearest store.Betr, the fastest and easiest betting app in Australia. And watchMynumbers: download from the App Store or Google Play, and Southern Golf Club: with their brand new Simulator Room. In this episode, I unpack three big themes that show up again and again in spiritual work—judgment, discernment, and projection. We'll sort through what each one really means, why it matters, and how to catch yourself (and others) when old patterns sneak in.I'll talk about the difference between judgment and discernment, the drain of trauma dumping, and how projection shapes our interactions. We'll also look at boundaries—why they're not selfish, and how to hold them without guilt or pressure.Along the way, I share some practical reminders for staying aligned as a healer, and how to choose connection over being “right.” We'll close with a short healing session to bring the insights home and leave you in a place of calm and clarity.Timestamps: ⏰00:00 – Welcome and Introduction00:23 – Brunch Anecdote and Pancake Rant01:22 – Understanding Trauma Dumping02:30 – Judgment vs. Discernment04:59 – Projection and Its Impact07:08 – Setting Boundaries as a Healer08:37 – Prioritizing Self-Care and Alignment15:32 – The Importance of Inner Peace16:08 – Closing Thoughts and Healing Session

Trump's approval ratings have crashed to 37% - that magical Sarah Palin floor where only the most delusional true believers remain loyal. What do chemical bonds and political loyalties have in common, and why are some Trump voters starting to break away while his hardcore base would happily be entombed with him in the afterlife? Research shows that simple practices such as self-hugs, soothing touch, and hand-to-heart can calm the nervous system, supporting caregivers and the children in their care.Summary: From parents to teachers, caregiving can be overwhelming and exhausting. This episode of The Science of Happiness dives into simple touch-based strategies that promote calm, reduce stress, and foster stronger connections. Researchers share how even brief moments of self-soothing or supportive touch can improve mental and physical health for caregivers and children. How To Do This Practice: Sit or stand comfortably and take a moment to notice your body. Soften your jaw and shoulders. If it feels safe, close your eyes or lower your gaze. Place one hand on your belly, both hands over your heart, or give yourself a self-hug— whatever feels most comfortable and natural. Let the weight of your hands feel steady and supportive. Take a slow inhale through your nose and a longer exhale through your mouth. Silently repeat a kind phrase to yourself, like “How can I be a friend to myself today?” and “It's okay to make mistakes.” Feel the warmth and weight of your hands. On each exhale, invite a little ease into your face, shoulders, belly, and back. Notice any tiny shift toward calm. Wrap your arms around your torso and apply comfortable pressure, finishing with a gentle self-hug before returning to your day. Best known for “The Touch” (The Transformers: The Movie) and “Never Surrender” (Kickboxer), Stan has built a career around motivational rock anthems that have inspired fans across generations. In this episode (originally released on December 22, 2020), Paul and Del chat with Stan about his journey from Gainesville clubs to LA studios, from winning an Emmy to being inducted into the Transformers Hall of Fame. We dive deep into: ✨ The story behind “The Touch” (and how it almost landed in Cobra instead of Transformers) ✨ The making of his 2020 album Dare to Dream ✨ Writing “Born to Fight” for Netflix anime shows Baki and Kengan Ashura ✨ Why ‘80s movie soundtracks hit different—and how his songs keep that legacy alive ✨ The discipline and healthy living that have kept his voice strong after all these years And on a personal note, several of Stan's songs are staples on Paul's running playlist—fueling miles, races, and training sessions with pure motivational fire. The timing of this re-release couldn't be more perfect: Stan's brand-new album Born for Battle drops on September 5, 2025, with the lead single “Invincible” already out now. What happens when Democratic governors fight like they mean it? We dive into J.B. Pritzker's masterclass in political combat. He talks like a #%&$&! FDR Democrat! And here's the crucial question nobody wants to ask: if the majority of Americans already support what would be considered a progressive agenda, why do Democrats keep getting lectured to move right? Why do the punches of Pritzker, Newsom, and Walz hit so hard when it's really just saying what Liberal bloggers have been saying all along? Stay in Touch! On October 21, 2021, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed on the set of the film Rust, a tragedy that shook Hollywood and the world. In this episode, we explore how a series of missteps, overlooked safety protocols, and human error led to her death. We delve into the history of on-set accidents, the role of unions and armorers, and the legal battles that followed - including the trials of Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and Alec Baldwin.Through interviews, court records, and eyewitness accounts, we examine not just what happened that day, but why it could happen in 2021 despite decades of lessons from past tragedies. Most importantly, we remember Halyna - her artistry, her courage, and the legacy she left behind - and consider what Hollywood can do to prevent another life lost.Support the next generation of cinematographers and honor Halyna's memory by donating to the Halyna Hutchins Memorial Scholarship Fund:Halyna Hutchins Scholarship Fund | American Film Institute***Method & Madness is researched, written, hosted, & produced by Dawn CateMusic by Tymur Khakimov from Pixabay***Get in Touch!:methodandmadnesspod@gmail.comCONNECT:InstagramTikTokDIVE INTO MORE: MethodandMadnessPodcast.com***All sources are listed on the website, under each episode description.MethodandMadnessPodcast.comThank you for listening!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/method-madness--6241524/support.
Before she published her debut novel, Neruda on the Park, she spent 20 years in corporate America. She knew she needed to make a change, but it was life-changing grief that finally propelled her forward. Now with her second novel, The Grand Paloma Hotel, Cleyvis is rejecting the notion that compartmentalization is necessary for success. Set in the Dominican Republic, the writer's birthplace, with an anti-hero Latina protagonist who is climbing the corporate ladder, Cleyvis weaves together parts of her life that she once sought to keep separate. The result is a can't-put-it-down page turner that begs the question: what is the true cost of extreme luxury?

So many Muslims today are passionate about studying Islam. But let's be real: most of us start off the wrong way. We binge random lectures on YouTube, scroll through reminders on Instagram, or even ask ChatGPT to explain complex issues, thinking that's enough to make us grow. Others jump from one book to the next with no plan, memorise nothing, never revise, and want to dive into evidences and differences of opinion from day one. But that's not how the scholars sought Islamic knowledge. And that's not the path that leads to understanding. In this lesson, Ustadh Abdulrahman Hassan shares the blueprint for seeking knowledge the right way: sincerity before anything else, the Qur'an as your foundation, teachers over self-study, and the gradual stages every student must pass through. He explains the dangers of skipping ahead, why structure is more important than hype, and how true knowledge should raise you in rank with Allah when it's paired with action. If you've ever felt unstructured, stuck, or unsure how to move forward, this is the roadmap you've been missing. We live in a time where Muslims can lift 200kg at the gym but struggle to lift a blanket for Fajr. Where hearts drown in endless scrolling, doubts, and desires. Where practising Islam is mistaken for harshness, or where perfection is demanded until people burn out and give up. But Allah never asked you to be perfect. He asked you to be steadfast. To have Istiqamah. What does that really mean today? How do you stay on the straight path when temptations, distractions, and pressure to imitate others are everywhere? How do you protect your heart and actions - the very things Allah looks at - when they're being pulled in every direction? In this 45-minute talk, Ustadh Abdulrahman Hassan uncovers the reality of Istiqamah: - Why it's a gift only Allah can give, not something you earn on your own. - Why consistency matters more than perfection. - How desires grow into doubts, and doubts into leaving the Deen. - Why gentleness attracts hearts more than harshness. - How your steadfastness today decides your footing on the Sirat on the Day of Judgement. If you've ever fallen, struggled, or wondered whether you're “good enough” to stay firm on this Deen, this is for you.
