Alfred G Packer left Provo Utah with a group of prospectors to Breckenridge Colorado to try to strike it rich during the Colorado Gold Rush in 1873. Against the advice of others, he decided to travel to Gunnison Colorado in the middle of an unusually harsh winter storm. While he didn't find gold, he did become infamous for resorting to murder and cannibalism. What's up everyone, today we have the pleasure of sitting down with the acclaimed Britney Muller, Founder and Consultant at Data Sci 101 and former Senior SEO Scientist at Moz. Summary: Britney takes us on a wild ride through the intersection of marketing and AI, emphasizing the importance of adaptability, continuous learning, and ethical considerations. Britney's journey from SEO to AI illustrates the need for data literacy and strategic decision-making in marketing. She delves into the ethical nuances of AI, discussing the limitations of LLMs and the importance of transparency and responsible development. Highlighting the human element in AI, Britney advocates for balancing technological advancements with human creativity and intuition, and underscores the transformative potential of AI across various sectors. This episode is a compelling call to action for professionals to harmoniously blend technical expertise with ethical mindfulness in the rapidly evolving martech landscape.About BritneyBritney started her career when she moved to Breckenridge Colorado chasing fresh snow and snowboard hills. She connected with a local realtor who introduced her to SEO and after discovering search data, she never looked backShe spent 7 months preparing to rank her personal site for the term “Burton US Open” and ended up ranking ahead of Burton.com and received a call from their marketing team who invited her to dinner This spurred her to start her own agency which she ran for several successful years but after being on the cutting edge of SEO and doing the speaking circuit at conferences around the world, Britney started getting hungry for a new challenge: enter Machine LearningShe stumbled upon Harvard's Data Science 109 course after searching Github repos and dived super deep into this new field She was eventually poached by Moz where she spent 4 years as Senior SEO Scientist where she re-wrote the Beginner's Guide to SEO amongst a bunch of other content and continued her SEO researchShe later joined Hugging Face, the fastest-growing Machine Learning community & open-source ML platformToday Britney has returned to her entrepreneurial roots as a Machine Learning & SEO consultant and the Founder of Data Sci 101 with the goal of making LLMs like ChatGPT as accessible as possibleEmbracing Machine Learning: A Journey from SEO to AIBritney's journey from SEO expertise to machine learning is a testament to the power of curiosity and continuous learning. Nearly a decade ago, while most in the martech field were focused solely on traditional methods, Britney's unique passion for learning and experimentation led her to explore machine learning. This shift was fueled by her desire for a new challenge, as she felt she had reached the zenith of her SEO experiments. The pivotal moment came when she took the Harvard CS 109 course on machine learning. This experience opened her eyes to the transformative potential of feeding data to models and letting them learn patterns independently. The tangible results and potential applications she witnessed were not just intellectually stimulating but also professionally inspiring. As machine learning evolved, so did Britney's skills. She recalls the early days of TensorFlow, where complex lines of code were required for basic functions, which have now been simplified drastically.Britney's approach to machine learning is unique. She enjoys taking existing models and reengineering them for different applications, a process she describes as akin to being a 'Frankenstein developer.' This creative tinkering led to practical applications and fun experiments, like her first MNIST model, which could recognize handwritten numbers with high accuracy. Her pride in this achievement underscores her deep connection to her work and the joy it brings her.Key takeaway: Britney's transition from SEO to machine learning highlights the importance of pursuing passions and continuous learning in professional development. Her success stems from her willingness to embrace new challenges and innovate by reapplying existing technologies in novel ways. This story is a reminder that staying curious and adaptable is crucial in the ever-progressing field of martech.Data Literacy: Bridging the Gap in MarketingBritney's endeavor with Data Sci 101 aligns perfectly with her goals of educating the martech community and fostering a well-informed approach to AI and ML. She emphasizes the importance of statistical knowledge in marketing, a skill often overlooked in traditional marketing education. Britney's passion for sharing knowledge is driven by her discovery of the significant gap in data literacy within the marketing industry. This gap, she believes, hinders marketers from making more strategic decisions and finding better insights. Her approach to education in this field is both innovative and practical. Britney focuses on creating content that is engaging and accessible, breaking down complex topics into understandable segments. She draws inspiration from her friend Daisy Quaker's approach, emphasizing the need to repurpose extensive resources into more digestible formats - akin to turning a large turkey into multiple turkey sandwiches. This analogy perfectly encapsulates her method of making complex data science concepts more palatable for the average marketer.Britney's journey in educating others began with her own realization of the lack of statistical training in her marketing career. This led her to delve deeper into data science, allowing her to identify and address the gaps in knowledge within the marketing community. Her efforts are not just about imparting knowledge but also about empowering marketers to leverage data more effectively in their strategies.Key takeaway: Britney's initiative with Data Sci 101 highlights the critical need for data literacy in the marketing world. Her commitment to educating her peers about the importance of statistical knowledge and her innovative approach to content creation serve as a model for making complex subjects accessible and engaging. This endeavor not only enhances the skill set of marketers but also paves the way for more data-informed and strategic decision-making in the industry.Deciphering the Alien Nature of Large Language ModelsBritney's analogy of large language models (LLMs) as aliens provides a unique perspective on the intricacies of AI in the martech world. She recalls one of the more technical textbooks she read on LLMs and how the author compares LLMs to beings in a black cave, fed with the world's texts but lacking a true understanding of human experiences and languages' nuances. This vivid imagery conveys the idea that, while LLMs are proficient in processing and mimicking language patterns, they fall short in grasping the depth and context of real-world experiences and specialized knowledge.Britney's approach to explaining complex concepts through relatable analogies reflects her commitment to making the abstract more accessible. Her use of post-it notes to jot down everyday analogies like baseball references showcases her inventive method of communication. This approach is crucial in a field where the technology is often abstract and difficult for the average person to grasp.“LLMs are essentially aliens from a different universe: while they have access to all our world's text, they lack genuine comprehension of languages, nuances of our reality, and the intricacies of human experience and knowledge.” - Britney Muller, Introduction to LLMs, part 1. This alien analogy underlines a significant limitatio...

Episode 144 is taking you skiing in Breckenridge on a quick weekend trip to enjoy the snow and crisp mountain air. We took this trip in March which is one of the snowiest seasons making it the perfect time to go skiing in Breckenridge, Colorado. We are not expert skiers! In fact, this was the very first time we tried cross country skiing and we loved it! We went skiing at the Breckenridge Nordic Center and would highly recommend it! The runs were smooth and fun, and they have skiing classes if you're interested in learning the fundamentals before getting out there. We'd also recommend that or you'll be falling all over the place like we were. There's so much fun to be had on a trip to Breckenridge Colorado above just skiing. George Pappas was the first Jamie Salter sponsored team rider for Kemper a distinction he earned by placing 8th at the Snwoboarding World Championships in Breckenridge CO. He grew up riding with his brother Chris Pappas, Dave Dowd, Kevin Delaney, and many other legendary pro snowboarders from Colorado and around the world. In December of last year when this was recorded George was piecing together his life after serving 5 years of a 13 year sentence for the attempted murder of his girlfriend at the time. Shortly after arriving in prison George enrolled in everything he could to try and spend as little time in jail as he could and luck (which he reminds me is the meeting of preparation and opportunity) landed him in programs that actually reached him and changed his life forever. Now, as we're nearing a year of George being out of prison, he's reno'd a home he's living in into a recovery house. He's qualified to compete in the in World Skate Games slalom events in Argentina by beating the 8 time world champion Joe McLaren at the Texas Sizzlera few weeks ago. He's in the process of being granted early release from parole. And he's reconnecting with his son Geoy. Support the show (https://paypal.me/fnradfoundation)

n this week's episode of SportSquire, Brad speaks about his recent trip to Breckenridge Colorado with his wife Carly, where they hiked Hoosier Pass and went on a bit further on the trail to summit up to North Star Mountain. He encourages those listening to utilize hiking as an opportunity to "get away and re-focus". A few things he talks about in today's episode that he did not expect to learn when reflecting on his most recent hiking experience: 1.) Hiking Takes Preparation: You have to pay attention to the forecast. Figuring out what time of day to head out and ensuring you have adequate water, proper clothing/shoewear, and that you know where the heck you are going are all part of the pre-planning process. This is no different than anything else in life. They better prepared you are for anything the more likely you are going to do well at something and see it to completion. 2.) Sometimes You Have to Take Breaks: When you are gaining elevation there were several times Brad speaks about him and his wife pausing to regain their composure and then they would push back up the mountain. In life, we sometimes run ourselves so hard that we think we can't go forward when all we really need is just a breather and a short break. 3.) Balance Between Looking Where Your Feet are And Looking Ahead: It's easy on a moderate to difficult trail to step on a rock, limb or put your foot in a hole and roll your ankle or misstep. You have to look down at times to ensure you are avoiding danger in the present moment. However, you have to look up to make sure you are going in the right direction. The same goes for your personal journey. You cannot lose sight of where your feet are currently but every now and then you need to look up and make sure you are heading in the right direction! 4.) Sometimes You Just Have to Stop And Appreciate the View: Sprinting up the mountain would not have been that enjoyable. Taking our time with rest breaks to take in the views was absolutely an out of body experience. Sometimes in life, we have to do the same thing. This was a huge analogous moment for Brad to remember that you HAVE TO ENJOY THE MOMENT AND THE JOURNEY. Brad says "stopping and appreciating the view was a spiritual talk with me and the Good Lord. It is a reminder for me personally and encouragement for you out there to stop and find God in the small parts of your day. He is at work in big ways that you sometimes don't take the time to see! " 5.) There Is More Than One Way to Get Up A Mountain: On some trails, some individuals see an opportunity to hike a different path that ultimately gets them to the same spot. I've learned, it doesn't matter what path you choose, just be all in to going the direction you choose and don't look back. 6.) The Top Or End Happens Quick: Getting up to the Summit of the North Star Mountain at 13,400 feet elevation was so rewarding. I spent 5 minutes at the top appreciating the view and the accomplishment of the hike. It made me realize that there is so much more to appreciating a result. You have to learn to enjoy the grind and process because that is where you are spending the majority of your time. 7.) Who You Hike With Matters: If you are going to go on a long journey and trip you better enjoy the other person's company! Brad speaks about how great of a bonding experience it was for him and his wife to accomplish this hike together. "Sharing an experience and a challenge and seeing it through is one of the most forging things one can do to improve a relationship". 8.) Don't MIss An Opportunity to Celebrate Go to AllTrails app to find some trails in your neck of the woods and start enjoying the positive benefits of exercising outdoors! You won't regret it!

The Meaning of WorkBefore the time of remote jobs, work was two things: the place you go, and the things you do. When working remote grew in popularity, Sam saw a need for meeting those individuals want for inspiration and community. The issue with this was that what works for some doesn't work for others. For some, a coffee shop environment is the perfect setting, but sometimes, there is a need for something quieter or calmer.Local InfluencesOne reason that Deskpass is different from all other coworking companies or environments is that their spaces are run by local members. For instance, in Breckenridge CO, the space may be more Colorado themed whereas in downtown Chicago, a space may be more industry specific such as finance or law.The differences in the spaces create variety that matches what the member needs in that day or moment. Additionally, this variety creates an environment that is a melting pot of people. It creates a community of people working just as hard as you are, but every person there is different with different ideas and different perspectives. Not many other working environments are as adaptable as coworking spaces are.Timeline:[02:09] What is Deskpass? Meet Alisa. I’m constantly planning my next adventure. A few years ago, after visiting a friend in the U.S. Virgin Islands, I got bit with the travel bug. It was shortly after getting back home to NY, that I’d convinced my hubby to sell all our stuff, quit our corporate jobs and move to St. John, USVI. Friends and family thought we were crazy. Maybe we were. But, it’s the best kind of crazy there is. Crazy FREE! We explored island life for a year, then we went on to travel around Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, and ultimately came to live in Breckenridge for a ski season. That one season, turned into two, and here we are five years later. Breck is now our home. The crisp air, the beautiful scenery, the amazing people, all of it makes my heart smile from the inside out. I feel so blessed to be where I am today. That one decision to leave the safety and security of our life in NY, and chase this big dream of travel, led me to discover my passion for photography and capturing the true essence of love, family, and everything in between. It’s the smallest of moments - a Dad winking at his daughter, a Mom whispering to her son, a glance, a smile, a sweet touch - that create the most beautiful of memories. I am honored to be part of your journey, whether for a single session, a week long vacation, or annual reunions. All of it lights me up. If there was one message that I’d want the world and everyone in it to hear, it’s this: Do you. Listen to your heart. Take the leap. Do the thing. Be brave. You are worthy of EVERY dream you’ve ever dreamed. Go after it! And if you want to document your journey along the way... I'm your girl! I can't wait to work with you. The transition from boy to man is an epic time in the lives of our sons. As fathers, it's our job to teach them what it means to be a man as they close the chapter on childhood and embark on the next stage of life as an adult. In recent episodes, I talked about a rite of passage experience I created for my 11-year-old Mason. He hiked with me and the Elite Elevation Dad Edge Mastermind to the top of Mount Quandary in Breckenridge Colorado. I also shared the letter I read to him about The Pillars of Manhood when we reached the summit. Today, Mason is here to share his perspective of what it was like to take on such a tough physical and mental challenge, how he felt among a tribe of men, and the life lessons that he will carry into manhood. How to know if you’ve been a good dad? As parents, we often don’t know if we’re doing the right thing. We want our kids to have honesty, integrity, teamwork, and a good work ethic. We hope they’ll become mentally tough, emotionally resilient, and brave enough to ask for help when they need it. How can we tell if our kids are getting the life lessons we want to teach? Today I’m going to share a story about a rite of passage experience where my 11-year-old son hiked with me and the Elite Elevation Dad Edge Mastermind to the top of Mount Quandary in Breckenridge Colorado. Listen to how my son not only received a life lesson about accepting help, but also how he reversed it on me and showed me what kind of man he will become. What is a rite of passage? What does a rite of passage look like in modern times? How can you go about creating a rite of passage experience for your son? Today, I talk about how I created a rite of passage for my 11-year old son by planning an epic hiking trip to Quandary Peak in Breckenridge Colorado. The culmination was when we reached the summit and I read him a letter about the pillars of manhood and how I would show him how to master each one. In this episode we are joined by Kelly Bruce. In 2010 Kelly Bruce was raising her daughter alone living in the beautiful mountains of Breckenridge Colorado teaching children to ski for Vail Resorts. On NYE she was hit by a drunk driver and suffered injuries to her lower back and neck. These injuries would ultimately end her skiing profession, sending her on the path of pharmaceutical pain management. After a horrible out of body experience one night on Ambien; she decided there had to be a better way to manage the pain and still be able to have the confidence to be an effective parent. She was not only able to completely manage pain to the point of not even needing Advil, but she was able to come off of other medications for medical conditions such as ADD and Major Depressive Disorder. She was amazed at how versatile the plant was in alleviating ailments. She became quite outspoken about the benefits; advocating for the various ways to use it. In 2012 someone reported her medical use to Child Protective Services. Kelly openly and willingly admitted she was a medical patient and using cannabis to treat medical conditions. She believed her choice with the direction and care of her doctors were better than using the prescription drugs. The state disagreed with her choice to consume a schedule 1 illicit drug, even while under her legal right with the state, and Kelly was founded of her charges. She fought. Hard; appealing the court's ruling. After a 2 year probation, all charges were dropped. This experience is what sparked a fire inside Kelly that has grown into CannaMommy.org

Today, I’m posting a sermon I gave over spring break when I was in Breckenridge Colorado. Fr. Charlie Brumbaugh of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church was kind enough to let me share a homily with his community during a Eucharistic service on March 21st 2018. In this sermon I am using the Lent 5 gospel text which is John 12:20-33. I explore the idea of atonement as reconciliation.
What happens at doggy daycare with Steve from The Dog House in Breckenridge, Colorado. This podcast is sponsored by Rover.com. Receive $25 off your first booking by using rover.com/vettalk. Daycare Why Daycare For Dogs? The purpose of dog daycare is to provide stimulation, exercise, and socialization for your pet. Your dog’s personality can be strongly influenced by the amount of physical and mental stimulation he or she receives on a daily basis. The daycare session also includes a nap time mid-day, which is always well needed. They play with their canine buddies in playgroups according to their size and/or temperment, or we may accommodate them as they feel most comfortable. They play with the staff of The Dog House in a safe and supervised environment. Your dog can enjoy the warm sun while they play in the pools all summer, or just relax with plenty of shade. In the winter they love romping out in the snow, however, we also have large indoor play areas with artificial grass as well. The Dog House has controlled temperatures inside the building for the dogs, as well as a very clean environment with circulated air. Screening: We do not need to meet your dog prior to their first visit. We accept all breeds, however, we do reserve the right to exclude certain dogs based on temperament for the safety of themselves as well as the other dogs. We do not have an age restriction. We just require puppies to have Bordatella and Distemper current for their age. We require them to have Rabies when they reach 4 months. We will also accommodate dogs that are not spayed or neutered (see note below in green). Dogs must be people friendly. Proof of Distemper, Rabies and Bordatella vaccines must be current and on file in order to confirm your reservation. Due to privacy policies of veterinary clinics, we can not call your vet for you to obtain these records. We will no longer be offering Bordatella at our facility due to its lack of effectiveness for up to two weeks from the time given, however, we will honor it up to a year from the date it is given from your vet. Non-neutered males over 6 months will not participate in group activities without approval. No female dogs in heat will be accepted. Cancellation Policy for Overnight Boarding or Daycare: Cancellations must be made no later than the morning of your dog’s check-in date. If you do not cancel by then and we are at capacity, you will be charged for your dog’s stay when you check your dog in on their next stay.

Joining us is beer expert Kate Coakley describes her favorite beer in Breckenridge and the one beer stop you cannot miss while in town. Also on the show is Breckenridge Major, John Warner, who tells us how he got nicknamed the tooth fairy, the costume that goes with it, and a few details about the town’s history. There’s all of this and more on this week’s Travel Today with Peter Greenberg from Breckenridge, Colorado.

Jessica Geren was exposed to cannabis culture during her time at CU Boulder and her early years in Breckenridge Colorado, but it was a move back to the East Coast that ultimately put her in a position to work with the industry. It was back in her home state of Massachusetts that she was hired by Dutchess Capital, and put her talents to work evaluating business proposals for investment in the cannabis space. Like many people interviewed on the Audio Archives, she stresses the ever-changing nature of the industry, and the constant need to adapt to new circumstances. She and Duchess Capital have been a model of this mindset themselves, and have firmly established themselves as a leading investor. Enjoy!
