Lemon Nation, this is beyond reckless—it's dangerous. As we've been covering since the story first broke, The Atlantic reports that Trump's national security team accidentally texted a reporter their war plans through a group chat. Yes, they actually included a journalist in a live thread about upcoming U.S. military strikes in Yemen. This isn't just incompetence—it's a full-blown national security failure. And according to the law, some of the people involved could legitimately face jail time. Naturally, Trump is already trying to deflect blame, because accountability is never part of the plan. Tonight, Don is joined by activist and The Bulwark writer Cameron Kasky to break it all down—the incompetence, the legal stakes, and how we got to a point where texting war plans is somehow not the biggest scandal of a presidential term. Covid-19 locked up Gen Z during their formative years, and the GOP offered them a party. Sure, there's some Nazism mixed in with the drinks, but during a loneliness pandemic, you take what highs you can get. Tim and Cam discuss how Covid helped push Gen Z right. Plus, Joshua Rush defends the activist tactics of Gen Z and explains how— in the face of nonstop nihilism—he still has optimism for the future of America. It was a dark day that transfixed America and the world when a sea of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6th, 2021, hoping to overturn Joe Biden's election victory. Five people died in the melee. Now -- seventeen months later -- the much anticipated first public hearings of the committee investigating the insurrection have taken place. Pamela Brown reports.  The other big issue on this week's agenda was gun violence. While President Biden says that he won't abuse his executive power to enact gun restrictions, a bipartisan group of senators say they are making progress on bills designed to prevent gun deaths. Few people are monitoring this as closely as Cameron Kasky, who was 17 years old when a gunman stormed his high school in Parkland, Florida in 2018. The massacre propelled him and other survivors to start a gun control movement which saw more than one million people flood the streets across the country in the 'March for Our Lives.' Now they've called for another march this Saturday. Cameron spoke to Christiane about whether he thinks there can be change.  Also on today's show: Actor Emma Thompson, antisemitism expert Deborah Lipstadt. What is it like being thrust into the national spotlight at 17? What is the state of the gun control debate? How can progress be made on this issue? I ask all these highly relevant questions to Cameron Kasky, one of the founding members of March for Our Lives. What makes this interview special and different from some of the others, is Kasky's teenage authenticity when talking about the challenges that he felt leading March for Our Lives (MFOL), and simply what being a teenager thrown in the national spotlight while in shock is like. At the same time, Kasky talks about becoming far more interested in starting conversations that could heal the American social fabric, not on his fellow activist's pithy slogans (he eventually split from MFOL). The conversation is one that is both fascinating and fun. Cameron Kasky is a co-founder of March for Our Lives, a teen-led gun violence prevention organization, and currently a mental health advocate and activist for other movements (Kasky has split from MFOL). He is a member of the Columbia University class of 2023. _________________________________________________ Favorite Podcast: "The Joe Rogan Experience" Most insightful people to follow on social media: The Krassenstein Brothers Books that have most shaped your thinking: "The Toy Collector" - James Gunn and "Devil in the White City" - Erik Larson

Hello and welcome to this special episode of the Mother’s Quest Podcast which I’m releasing just days before the March for our Lives. On March 24, 2018 the kids and families of March For Our Lives will take to the streets of Washington DC, and around the country, to demand that their lives and safety become a priority and that we end gun violence and mass shootings in our schools today. To help light the way, I reached out to Gloria Pan, who currently serves as the National Campaign Director for Gun Safety for the grassroots advocacy organization MomsRising. A public interest advocate and Internet communications strategist, Gloria also leads the organization’s member engagement, rapid response and mobile actions initiatives, as well as the #KeepMarching project.  In our conversation, Gloria shares about her upbringing in an Asian-American immigrant family, the impact of her mother’s experience working in the UN during the Women’s Movement, and whether the idea of living an E.P.I.C. life is relevant for MomsRising mothers, many of whom are struggling to meet basic needs. We delve into the E.P.I.C. guideposts from the lens of gun safety advocacy, explore the ways in which we can broaden our lens to make that advocacy intersectional, and Gloria gives us specific actionable challenges to get involved and make a difference.  One of the most impactful moments of the interview for me happened when we talked about the young people of Parkland, and Gloria shared her unwavering belief that those young people would use their privilege to shine a light on their peers who’ve been organizing for the Black Lives Matter Movement, for gun safety in their communities of color, disproportionately and daily impacted by gun violence. The moment brought me to tears, because I really believed her…and sure enough in the days since that interview, those young people have been joining with students of color in Chicago and other urban areas, making their advocacy platform intersectional and building bridges where adults have failed to do so. In a recent article, Cameron Kasky, one of the Parkland student leaders said “We have to represent those who unfortunately were ignored. This is not just about us. … When we’re together marching, this is not going to be different races, different generations ― this is going to be a unified people standing together against those who are trying to ignore us.” I’ll be standing for all of that on Saturday at the March for our Lives and as I move through the advocacy challenges thoughtfully shared by Gloria and MomsRising in the days afterward. I hope you’ll join me. This episode dedicated by: Sage B. Hobbs, Author of Naked Communication and Host of the Naked Conversations Podcast. Ep 62 (3/21/18) How are the Parkland students changing the gun control debate? Guest: Josh Horwitz

On February 14, when a 19-year-old former student opened fire on the campus of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 people, 14 of whom were students, the tragedy appeared to be following the pattern that many Americans had sadly come to expect. Politicians of both parties, including the President himself, offered thoughts and prayers for the victims in interviews and on social media. Democrats trumpeted the need for what they view as common sense gun control practices like limiting high-capacity magazines and bump stocks. Republicans stressed the need for better mental health screening and campus security, the familiar refrain that the best protection is a “good guy with a gun.” Then, three days after the shooting, when the tragedy would typically have begun to fade from the country’s consciousness as had happened with the dozens of school shootings that have seized the public’s attention in the two decades since the Columbine High School massacre, something different happened. On February 17, at a gun control rally held in front of the Broward County Courthouse, Stoneman Douglas senior Emma Gonzalez gave an impassioned plea for students to stand up and demand action that was viewed over 2.8 million times after a CNN camera crew put the footage up on YouTube. But Gonzalez was just getting started. Along with classmates Alfonso Calderon, Sarah Chadwick, Emma González, David Hogg and Cameron Kasky, she started the organization Never Again MSD with the goal of ending school shootings in the US permanently. Speaking on major news programs from “Face The Nation” to “60 Minutes,” the students reinvigorated the gun control movement, as people of all ages were impressed by their intelligence, their passion and their refusal to be silent. With Never Again MSD’s first major demonstration, The March For Our Lives happening in Washington, DC and across the country on Saturday, host Jesse Lent talks to Josh Horwitz, executive director of the Coalition To Stop Gun Violence, about how the Parkland students have changed the political calculus of the gun debate in this country and how his organization is supporting their efforts.
