Send us a textWelcome, welcome back foolish mortals! This is Oldie But Goodie Episode #20 of The Disney Life Happy Wife Podcast.  The podcast where I bring you all things Disney.  And this episode has something new.  My very first "Disney" book review.  During the pandemic, The Descendants came into our lives. Being a bibliophile, when I found out a book inspired these movies, I knew I needed to read it.  So my first book review is "Isle of the Lost" by Melissa de la Cruz. Also, in this episode, I do another movie review.  During the pandemic, Disney+ brought us Hamilton the Musical in movie form.  It was such a great time for this to come out.  When people couldn't go to the theater.  I hadn't seen Hamilton, so I was very excited. Two reviews in one episode!Sit back, relax, listen ... and I'll see you real soon.Support the showFollow along with me on social media:- Facebook (@disneylifehappywifepodcast)- Instagram (@disneylifehappywifepodcast)Do you have any questions, comments, or concerns? This week, we're also talking about The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid by tackling chapter 16, in which Zia embraces the singed-eyebrow look. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:06:26) Happy birthday, Annabeth Chase! Fury of the Dragon Goddess by Sarwat Chadda releases on August 1. Pre-order it here. Make sure you check out the virtual launch event for the book! Read Riordan has an article so you can refresh your memory on City of the Plague God. If you want play D&D with Sarwat Chadda, you can learn all the details here. You can also catch up with Daoud and meet Dumuzi, thanks to Read Riordan. Sarwat had a lot of wonderful things to say about being a part of the Rick Riordan Presents family. The Spirit Glass by Roshani Chokshi got a starred review from Publisher's Weekly. Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro share their favorite recent reads. Be sure to check out the Boston Book Festival, where Rick will be a keynote speaker this year. Read Riordan is hitting it out of the park with this Chalice of the Gods articles, including the one about the New Rome University course guide. We have SO. MANY. IDEAS. Would you want John Rocco to do a special edition cover for Chalice of the Gods so it could match your original series? Someone needs to update this Percy Jackson guide to the Met Museum. Don't expect to see Nico and Bianca in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1. We're so happy Glynn Turman got to pick the horse he's working with on the show. Let's talk about Percy Jackson at San Diego Comic-Con 2023. Did you catch the new Percy Jackson poster and SDCC bag? Looks like there's a chance of Percy Jackson on Saturday. We get to see a slightly new image of the trio. And here's a picture of the Disney Books poster at SDCC 2023. Kristen breaks down new information about the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, plus what it means for us at the podcast. Huge thank you to Mel for asking us to go into detail about all of this! You can find the SAG-AFTRA strike rules on Variety. The biggest one to keep in mind is that if the studio is asking you to promote something, DON'T DO IT. Yes, the podcast will keep covering all the Percy Jackson and the Olympians news because we are just fans talking about what we love. What's the future of these strikes? D.B. Woodside had some really important information to share about why SAG is striking. What does all this mean for Percy Jackson and the Olympians? Why isn't Rick saying much about the show? What projects are on hold and which ones can he still work on? Why wasn't Rick Riordan at Comic-Con? We'll keep you updated with more information once it becomes available! Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid discussion (01:08:50) This week, we're reading The Red Pyramid chapter 16. Put us down for not wanting to be woken up the way Zia wakes Sadie. Why didn't Carter sleep well? How do we get some bottled Thoth Water? That tongue tattoo was pretty cool. Either do what Zia tells you to…or die. What are the magicians' specialties and which can we unanimously agree is a no-go for us? There are some really great moments while Carter and Sadie learn to bring hierglyphs to life with magic. We're so happy we learned about Luxor/Thebes in our last episode. How strong is Zia, exactly? It's time to duel, and it definitely does not go according to plan. We learn a little bit more about the Kanes' familial background. Iskandar is dead, and even though we saw this coming, it's still sad. It also spells major trouble for the Kanes. Zia's willing to give them a five-minute head start, and that's about as good as it's going to get. Feedback (01:28:42) Tim writes in with a little What If… for The Last Olympian. Caoimhe also catches us up on her reactions to the last few episodes and gives us a great idea for a future one. It seems Bobbi is as big of a fan of Hapshetsut as we are. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 93, in which we'll discuss City of the Plague God by Sarwat Chadda, and then read The Red Pyramid chapter 17! Prophecy Radio episode #56 talks about the Lotus Hotel & Casino, and all of the references and Easter eggs we might see in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV show. The hosts tackle all the latest news in the Riordanverse, including the Crown of Wishes adaptation, the Freedom Fire imprint, and yet another blog post from Rick Riordan, as well as a reread and discussion of Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian chapter 10. This book is really heating up, and we're only halfway through! New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:03:53) Read Riordan lets us know how we can win a wilderness survival competition with the Hunters of Artemis. Make sure you go follow Tehlor Kay Mejia on Instagram, as she is no longer on Twitter. Roshani Chokshi's A Crown of of Wishes is getting an adaptation on Disney+! It's pretty cool that the show's lead, Avantika, has ties to both Aryan Simhadri (Grover) and Charles Bushnell (Luke). This might even help pave the way for an Aru Shah adaptation! Kwame Mbalia gives everyone a pep talk for NaNoWriMo. Did you also hear the Kwame is heading up a new imprint for Disney Books, called Freedom Fire? Yeah, we're super excited about this. Lotus Hotel & Casino references and Easter eggs (00:12:04) Obviously a Nico and Bianca Easter egg is at the top of everyone's lists, but there's A LOT more Percy Jackson and the Olympians can do with this scene/episode. Obviously Karen's first choice is to put a Disney Hercules reference in the show somehow. Maybe the kids could be playing the Hercules Playstation game that came out way back in 1997? You can currently buy this game on Steam. Is anyone a fan? Kristen also had some ideas for what kind of Disney Easter eggs could end up in the show. We gotta get Finding Nemo or The Little Mermaid in there somehow. But what about Doctor Who!? That could actually make for a GREAT crossover/reference. And, of course, there's always Wreck-It-Ralph. Karen is definitely on board for the water theme—but she had an idea for what their rooms at the hotel could look like. Where would Grover and Annabeth stay? And how could we fit Oliver and Company into this world? We really couldn't pass up this opportunity to drop some movie references. Wouldn't it be cool if Logan Lerman or Alexandra Daddario showed up in the background as one of the adult characters in the hotel? It totally makes sense if the Lotus Hotel was hosting a convention that week! Really, though, Disney needs to hire us. We're so good at this. Poor Grover needs a Lotus Hotel & Casino redemption arc after what he went through in the movie. Some famous missing person HAS to show up at the hotel. It just makes so much sense! Book canon and show canon don't have to match exactly. Do we want the show to break the fourth wall at all? How cool would it be if this scene foreshadowed what would happen in Sea of Monsters aka Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. How many classic videogames can they fit into this one scene!? What's more likely, a Kingdom Hearts or Dreamlight Valley reference? Just please, for the love of the gods, don't turn this into Ready Player One. Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian (00:38:37) This week, we're talking The Last Olympian chapter 10. Thank goodness Mrs. O'Leary didn't get put to sleep! Do we ever see the video shield again in the series? Where's the line between science and magic within this universe? What is Grover up to right now? Is he back at CBH? Should Annabeth have been the one to direct all the troops, considering she's a daughter of Athena? This is, like, a REAL war, you guys. Karen NEEDS that Death to Barbie t-shirt. Please give us a Thalia spinoff series!! Percy and Annabeth are such good people. How could you not love them!? These automatons are awesome and SCARY. The scene with the two rivers was pretty cool, but… Can someone please explain how the heck Percy knew what to do with the sand dollar? Percy's got a lot of baggage when it comes to the Minotaur, and we can't wait to see what happens next! Does it make sense that the demigods would be fighting for Olympus, specifically? Feedback (01:17:03) Shout-out to Phoebe for also thinking a Hercules reference would be perfect to see in the Lotus Hotel & Casino scenes. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 57, where we'll do a Deep Dive on Hermes (seriously, it's perfect timing). This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then conduct an interview with none other than Roshani Chokshi ahead of the release of Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality, as well as read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapters 9 and 10. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:14) Kristen wonders, “What IS news?” but Karen is too tired to think about it. Roshani Chokshi is doing promo for Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality, including a video where she answers questions in 11 seconds or less as well as a quiz based on the Pandava series. Did you know it was also Grover Underwood Appreciation Week? It's 2022. Would Grover be vegan? By complete coincidence, they were also talking about Grover in the writer's room. This is your weekly reminder to be patient about casting news. Thanks to Rebecca Kuss, we'll be getting new YA Rick Riordan Presents books soon! Read Riordan published an article for Women's History Month between J.C. Cervantes and Tehlor Kay Mejia. Plus, there's an article about Baby Boo from Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality. Did you tell Becky what kind of behind-the-scenes content you want to see? We've probably got a blog post incoming! Roshani Chokshi interview (00:18:45) Today, we have a very special guest in Roshani Chokshi, who is here to promote the fifth and final book in the Pandava series, Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality. Our first question is whether Rosh has any quirky habits when it comes time to sit down and write. And what about special snacks? You'll NEVER guess her answer. Is there an editing critique that Rosh hates seeing in her drafts? Just like Greek mythology, Hindu mythology isn't always appropriate for the children. Rosh tells us what it's been like to kick off the Rick Riordan Presents imprint. What kind of doors populate Roshani's subconscious? Is there any chance Roshani will ever return to the world of Aru Shah? Plus, Rosh gives us an update on the Aru Shah adaptation. Can you guess what her Greek godly parent would be? And what Rick Riordan Presents series would Rosh want to visit? Wanda Maximoff: Misunderstood heroine or villain in the making? And we get to hear about her cursed dream project. (For real, though, it sounds awesome.) What other projects does Roshani have coming up? Buy Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality by Roshani Chokshi from Disney Books, Bookshop.org, Book Depository, or Amazon. You can also add it to your Goodreads list. Chapter Reviews (00:51:48) Let's get back to Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse, shall we? Shockingly, we're going to start with chapter 9. It's realistic that Mr. D caught Percy, but how DARE he act high and mighty! Does Mr. D actually want to care about Percy and Annabeth and the others? What's going on with Zoë and this mysterious hero who broke her heart? Where in the world is Annabeth? Do we remember who the General is? Can we have a saber-tooth kitty? Please? Now it's onto chapter 10, and we're halfway through the book. Zoë would be a better leader if she just listened to people. Have you ever eaten astronaut food? Percy is a smart cookie! Should we do an episode on the spoils of war? Proud of you, Zoë. Kronos is a four-course meal of evil. Feedback (01:20:23) Nicolaas really loves Troy, and Karen once again admits she needs to rewatch it. And Mr. Pink is reading the series for the first time in English. How exciting! Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next time for episode 27, where we'll discuss Aru Shah and the End of Time. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. In our first at-bat of the 2022 season, Ginger Zee steps into The Batter's Box! As the Chief Meteorologist for ABC News, Zee has forecasted and reported the nation's weather on Good Morning America and World News Tonight for nearly a decade. In doing so, she has endeared herself to audiences worldwide as a light that goes far beyond what we see on-screen, and one that we need now more than ever - especially when it comes to the subject matters she's tackling in her all-new book A Little Closer to Home: How I Found the Calm After the Storm. The book is published by the fine folks at Disney Books and is now available for purchase here. When she opened her life to readers in her first book Natural Disaster, the response was enormous. She put a very relatable if not surprising face on depression and has helped lessen the stigma surrounding mental health issues. But as Zee says, Natural Disaster was "Ginger Lite" and only scratched the surface. In this moving follow-up, she shares her truest self. She spent most of her life shielding her vulnerabilities from the world all while being a professional people pleaser. Her stormy childhood, her ongoing struggles with crippling depression, her suicide attempts, and many other life experiences will resonate with readers who are likely to see themselves along the way.  This week, she joins host Al Malafronte to talk all about the new book, and some of the experiences that drove her to open up in such a personal way, as she continues to heal from her trauma on a daily basis. This conversation is above and beyond inspiring, and it was so fascinating to hear her speak with such honesty. It was also particularly interesting to hear how her athletic background and mindset play into her triumphs in healing. In addition to the serious subject matters discussed in our chat, it wouldn't be a day in The Batter's Box without a special round of Fastball Derby, where Zee told some phenomenal stories about her baseball and theatre fandom, and even hinted at some eventual Broadway aspirations!
