This week's episode of America on the Road features road tests of two standout vehicles--the 2025 Honda Civic Sport Touring hatchback and the 2025 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Turbo. Co-Host Chris Teague put the Civic Sport Touring hatchback to the asphalt, and he found it to be one of the best values in the stellar Civic lineup. Powered by a hybrid system pairing a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine and electric motor, it delivers 200 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque. With 50 mpg city and 45 highway, it's one of the most efficient compact cars available, while at the same time delivering laudable performance. Four drive modes, a refined suspension, a 9-inch infotainment screen with Google built-in, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, and full Honda Sensing safety suite round out a well-equipped, tech-forward package. He'll offer a full report. Host Jack Nerad took the wheel of the 2025 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Turbo, a $39,455 compact SUV with 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque from a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine. All-wheel drive, a six-speed automatic, and premium touches like Terracotta leather-trimmed seats and a 10-speaker Bose system give it a refined edge. Though fuel economy sits at 24 mpg combined, the CX-5 impresses with its sophistication, design, and feature-rich value. And it is arguably the most fun-to-drive vehicle in its segment. At the same time, its price might surprise -- or even shock-- you. At the top of the news, we detail the debut of the 2026 Lexus RZ, now offered in three EV variants, including the new 402-horsepower F SPORT. Lexus has improved its range, added fast charging, and introduced performance upgrades like “M Mode,” which simulates manual shifting. Meanwhile, the 2026 Honda CR-V gets tech and trim upgrades, including a new off-road-ready TrailSport Hybrid model with standard AWD and improved fuel economy. All trims now offer wireless phone integration and larger screens. Not to be outdone, Toyota pulled the wraps off the all-new 2026 RAV4, the CR-V's chief nemesis, and we'll have more details on its gala introduction next week. In this week's auto-political news, a U.S. Senate resolution could overturn California's authority to enforce its 2035 all-EV mandate. Backed by automakers and dealers, supporters argue it protects national market consistency, while critics warn it could undercut state autonomy and slow EV adoption. Another legal battle has emerged between the California New Car Dealers Association and Honda/Sony over direct-to-consumer Afeela EV sales. The CNCDA claims these sales violate franchise laws requiring manufacturers to work through licensed dealers. The case may set a major precedent as EV startups and joint ventures explore nontraditional retail models. Also in the news, General Motors has halted U.S. exports to China, citing trade tensions and the winding down of its premium Durant Guild brand. GM will continue operating in China through joint ventures, but this move signals shifting priorities amid rising tariffs and regulatory uncertainty. This week's guest, Andre Ravinowich, Senior Manager of Product Planning at Hyundai, joins the show to talk about the all-new Hyundai Ioniq 9, a large electric SUV set to broaden Hyundai's EV lineup with space, performance, and tech innovation. Nerad drove the new battery-electric wonder during a Hyundai-sponsored event in Savannah, Georgia. To close out the show, the listener question of the week comes from Stanley in Macon, Georgia, who asks: “What's your take on the return of sedans and smaller cars? Are they gone for good, or do you think there will be a comeback for cars?” Jack and Chris weigh in, noting that while crossovers dominate, rising vehicle prices, tighter parking, and renewed interest in efficiency could trigger a modest resurgence for sedans and compacts—especially hybrids and EVs. Jack Nerad's newest book Jack is now offering his newest crime novel, Only One Thing Stays the Same,
The automotive landscape offers increasingly sophisticated choices, and our dual review of the 2025 Lexus UX 300h and Mitsubishi Outlander reveals two Japanese manufacturers delivering exceptional value in different segments. The Lexus UX 300h emerges as a standout in the luxury compact SUV class. Assembled in Miyawaka, Fukuoka, Japan, this hybrid marvel offers a compelling combination of premium features and remarkable efficiency. The F-Sport handling package elevates the driving experience while distinctive styling elements like the oversized spindle grille and sculpted fastback design create visual interest without sacrificing function. What truly distinguishes the UX 300h is its value proposition. With a starting price of $36,540, it significantly undercuts German competitors like Audi, BMW, and Mercedes while delivering superior fuel economy (45 city/41 highway MPG). During extensive testing over 682 miles, our team achieved 40.7 MPG while enjoying the UX's surprisingly smooth ride, comfortable interior, and intuitive technology. Most tellingly, when asked what could use improvement, our reviewers struggled to identify any shortcomings. We also explore the Mitsubishi Outlander SEL, which shares underpinnings with the Nissan Rogue but stands apart with distinctive styling and features. Despite its "small SUV" classification, this three-row, seven-passenger vehicle offers remarkable versatility with a comprehensive feature set including LED lighting, semi-aniline seating, a 12.3-inch display, and Mitsubishi's Super All-Wheel Control system. Backed by a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty, the Outlander makes a compelling case for buyers seeking space and features without breaking the bank.Between vehicle reviews, we dive deep into drivetrain technology Jeff Dziekan explaining the practical differences between two-wheel, four-wheel, and all-wheel drive systems - helping you understand which configuration best suits your specific driving needs, weathBe sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!ProAm Auto AccessoriesProAm Auto Accessories: "THE" place to go to find exclusive and hard to find parts and accessories!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Auto - Rund ums Auto.

The mercury is dropping but the Unnamed Automotive Podcast is still blazing a trail through your ears with another great episode. Not only do our hosts ponder about how integral their friendship is to the show, they also bring up the 2023 Lexus RX 500h F Sport that Benjamin recently tested (and apparently Sami drove but didn't tell anyone about.) Always the popular choice for luxury crossover buyers this RX boasts a totally new powertrain that should make it stand out from previous generations of the vehicle. More than that, there is so much tech to discuss—but does all of that detract from a premium driving experience? Then the guys talk about the biggest highlights, surprises and duds of this year. Thanks for listening! Don't forget to review or send us some feedback!
Auto - Rund ums Auto.

While the Lexus NX has underwhelmed many in previous incarnations, the 2023 NX 450h F Sport gets the recipe right. It is luxurious and fun to drive at the same time, as Host Jack Nerad found during his week-long road test of the small luxury crossover. With 302 horsepower on tap from its plug-in hybrid powertrain, the NX takes on a performance-oriented demeanor that other trims in the line only hint at. On top of the extra juice, the plug-in version provides buyers with 37 miles of all-electric range. The icing on the cake is stellar fuel economy. The 450h is EPA-rated at 84 MPGe. Inside, the NX delivers a Lexus level of luxury. And the new Lexus multimedia systems do not disappoint. They are easy to use and full-featured in ways that the previous Lexus systems were not. In our other road test this week, Co-Host Chris Teague takes a long look at the all-new 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid. After being reluctant about hybrids for years, Honda has recently done an about-face on the technology. For the 2023 model year, the top-level Accords all boast hybrid powertrains. The top-of-the-line Accords also feature a new and mightily improved infotainment setup, as Tague describes this week. In the news, a major global automaker says it might be forced to limit shipments of some of its vehicles to states that have adopted the California fuel economy and air quality standards. If you are a Left Coast musclecar fan this might be extremely bad news. We'll tell you which automaker it is and what the issues are in this episode. Tesla still has some safety investigations to deal with, but it is out of the woods in at least one of them. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced it is closing a probe of a controversial former Tesla feature that allowed occupants to play games on its infotainment screen while the vehicle was in motion. And in the true crime files automotive edition, A Turkish court has made rulings in cases involving former Nissan chief and now fugitive Carlos Ghosn. Our guest for you this week is Brent Gruber, Executive Director of the Electric Vehicle Practice at J.D. Power. He is extremely knowledgeable about what's going on with EVs and, in particular, consumer attitudes about them. He will share them with us this week America on the Road is brought to you by Driving Today.com, Mercury Insurance, YourTestDriver.com, and EMLandsea.com , the publisher of Nerad's latest book, Dance in the Dark, which is available HERE on Amazon.com

Auto - Rund ums Auto.
A major global car company tried to prank the press this week, and now they are paying the price for that. Earlier in the week, Volkswagen spread rumors that it was about to change its name to “Voltswagen” to confirm its commitment to electric cars, and then it followed up by putting out an official press release to that effect. Several major news sources fell for the April Fool's trick, and in this episode of America on the Road Host Jack Nerad and Co-Host Chris Teague discuss this situation and its fallout. The prank had significant ramifications around the industry. The 2022 Kia Stinger sports sedan gets more base horsepower and other important changes. In the interview portion of the podcast, Jack Nerad has a lengthy discussion with Kia's Paul Fisher, who is the product planning manager for the Stinger sports sedan. The Stinger has some significant changes for the 2022 model year and we'll discuss them with Fisher. The road test segment of this week's podcast consists of a battle of sports sedans. Chris Teague takes a detailed look at the 2021 Lexus IS350 F Sport sedan. A former IS owner, Teague brings a lot of enthusiasm and expertise to the task. The 2021 Lexus IS 350 F Sport brings impeccable manners to the sports sedan shootout. Jack Nerad has never owned a Cadillac, but he's driven scores of them through the years and he tells us he's found a hidden gem in the Cadillac CT5 550T. With a 335-horsepower turbocharged V-6, the 550T brings both plenty of acceleration and very composed manners to the sport sedan party. Its great looks inside and out simply add to its charm. In the listener-question portion of the program, we'll give an answer to the age-old query is it better to buy a new car at the end of the month than at the beginning? Both Teague and Nerad have their well-educated thoughts on the subject. Is it the God's honest truth? Or an urban myth? We'll give you the answer.

We spend some time with Gatian's GLA Update (we have a piggyback tune running) and we answer some emails from listeners about the 370Z and Lexus GS and IS F-Sport models. What could possibly go wrong...Remember, Buckle Up, Drive Hard but Drive Safe! Of the 40% of food that’s wasted in the US much of it is safe to eat. However, some of it is not fit for consumption. But, it still can be reused instead of ending up in landfills. We’re joined Joanna Underwood of Energy Vision which just put out the report Food Waste Erased about how we could meet the UN goal of cutting food waste in half by 2030. New technology has helped the trucking industry clean up its act. Improved diesel engines and emissions control systems are now part of 30 percent of all the trucks on the road in the US. To tell us more about clean diesel and it’s positive impact on the environment is Allen Schaeffer with the Diesel Technology Forum. Tom Appel, Publisher of Consumer Guide Automotive has a Green Road Test of the Lexus CT 200H F sport.
It’s quiet, comfortable and luxurious but has a distracting infotainment system and off-pace performance. The Lexus NX200t F Sport is definitely more “Lexus” than “F" Sport. Tune-in to see how it stacks up.
We celebrate one year of the podcast with Jeff Glucker of Hooniverse. We talk about bullet proof cars, the standing mile, the new Mazda 6, Lexus LS 460 F Sport, Ford's new 3 cylinder Ecoboost, and compare radar detectors.
Tanner Foust is a 3 time X-Games gold medalist, two-time formula drift champion, rally racer and stunt driver. He is also one of the hosts of the US version of Top Gear. We talk about his racing, jumps and loops, then check out his personal Porsche 996 turbo. We also take a look at a Lexus LS 460 F Sport.
Adam Carolla and Matt D'Andria take YOUR calls and questions before heading out to the parking lot to take a look at the 2013 Lexus GS 350 F Sport. The F Sport package features 19-inch staggered width wheels, dynamic handling with F Sport tuned adaptive variable suspension (AVS) and stopping power with new larger front brakes with high friction pads.
