This week on End Credits, we're going to believe in love again. Or, at the very least, we will believe that you can rediscover interesting movies on VOD even though they're not successful at the box office. Speaking of which, we're going to review the queer rom-com Bros, and we're also going to talk about movies that might be a success (or failure) in the new year. This Wednesday, December 14, at 3 pm, Adam A. Donaldson and Peter Salmon will discuss: 2023 and Me. It's almost the end of the year, and you know what that means? Yes, that means end of the year Best-of lists, and we'll get there in a couple of weeks, but for now we will do the other thing and look ahead to 2023. There are a lot of interesting movies in the proverbial oven being baked for the next 12 months including the return of a great boxer and a film about one of the world's most famous toys, plus a reprise by the world's great archaeologist/adventurer. REVIEW: Bros (2022). Did someone actually tried to make the great American gay romantic comedy? That seemed to be the goal of Bros, a production of Judd Apatow from the director of Neighbours and The Five-Year Engagement. Billy Eichner, who co-wrote the script, stars as Bobby, a commitment-phobic gay man who doesn't believe in true love until he meets Aaron, a lawyer who's also emotionally unavailable. Can these two crazy kids get their act together and then get together? I'm sure you already know the answer, and we'll share our thoughts about it. End Credits is on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca Wednesday at 3 pm.

Episode 81 and Wendi and Dfernando's guest interview is actress, author, writer, producer, and activist Mimi Kennedy.Born in Rochester, NY, Mimi first fell in love with acting as a child in community theater, which would lead her to ignite her acting career on stage opposite TV legend Sid Caesar in Neil Simon's LAST OF THE RED HOT LOVERS along with multi-Emmy Award winner Doris Roberts, who became a friend and mentor.Mimi was active in the NYC theatre scene in the 1970's, cast in plays like Jim Steinman's DAS RHEINGOLD and Andy Warhol's legendary PORK – a role she left due to reasons recounted in her 1996 mid-life memoir TAKEN TO THE STAGE: The Education of an Actress (soon to be released as an audiobook on Audible).  Steinman would become a life-long friend and Warhol, at least in her case, would be proven wrong about his “15 minutes of fame” quote.  In 1976 Mimi made her Broadway debut as one of the Pink Ladies: Jan, in the original Broadway run of the legendary musical GREASE.  She was also a member of the original touring production of THE NATIONAL LAMPOON SHOW.In 1975 Mimi was invited to audition for the original cast (The Not Ready for Prime Time Players) of a brand-new late-night NBC TV sketch comedy-variety series SATURDAY NIGHT (later known as SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE), but Lorne Michaels decided on casting Jane Curtin for that spot.    Her stage career did not end when Hollywood and television came calling shortly after. She has performed the 1-woman play about newspaper advice columnist Ann Landers, THE LADY WITH ALL THE ANSWERS, at both the Pasadena and Cleveland Playhouses. In 2013 she wrote and starred in a 1-woman play about suffragist and abolitionist Matilda Joslyn Gage, MIMI KENNEDY FINDS MATILDA JOSLYN GAGE.For 8 seasons Mimi portrayed the much beloved character, Marjorie, on the hit Chuck Lorre CBS TV sitcom MOM. She garnered a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Guest Performer in a Comedy Series before becoming a series regular in Season 2.  This was the second pairing of Mimi and Lorre; she played Abby O'Neil on the hit 90's ABC TV sitcom DHARMA & GREG for 5 seasons. Her television debut was on the 1977 NBC TV musical-variety mini-series 3 GIRLS 3, also starring dance legend Debbie  Allen, and Ellen Foley. The New York Times declared it a hit, however it sadly only aired 4 episodes. You can view all 4 episodes on Mimi's YouTube channel. 3 GIRLS 3 was quite an introduction to Hollywood allowing her the opportunity to play opposite Bob Hope, Carl Reiner, Flip Wilson, and Steve Martin (in his prime-time TV debut.) Regular TV sitcom series roles followed throughout the 70's and 80's, most notably as Stockard Channing's sister on the CBS TV sitcom JUST FRIENDS, and  co-starring with comedy legend Peter Cook in THE TWO OF US.  The 1990's started with Mimi in a dramatic role portraying a slightly darker side of the affluent WASP-type she had portrayed on sitcoms previously. As Queen-B Ruth Sloan on HOMEFRONT, she netted another American Television Critics nomination, this time as Best Supporting Actress in a Drama. In the 2000's she recurred as CIA Director and House Minority Leader in HBO's THE BRINK and VEEP, respectively. Upcoming television guest roles in 2022 include Netflix's GRACE & FRANKIE, and the long-running ABC TV sitcom THE GOLDBERGS, as well as a new character on a popular drama series.Mimi's most notable roles on film include: Woody Allen's Oscar winning MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, IN THE LOOP, the Oscar winning ERIN BROCKOVICH, PUMP UP THE VOLUME, MAN IN THE CHAIR, THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT, SAVING PARADISE, the recent Tony Hale comedy EAT WHEATIES!, and the upcoming GOING PLACES.The experience of attending and graduating from Smith College during the Vietnam War era (with Julie Nixon as a classmate) exposed Mimi to new ideas and perspectives. The seeds of an activist and world citizen were born.  Nonviolence is her core political principle, learned in weekly classes after 9/11 taught by Rev. James Lawson, whom Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called “the teacher” for his educating activists in nonviolent theory and practice at the start of the civil rights struggle in the 1960s.  Mimi was the founding Advisory Board Chair of Progressive Democrats of America in 2004 and remains on its National Board in a leadership role on the Election Integrity Team.  Her work in Election Integrity is nationally recognized, from Capitol Hill to LA County; where she served on the Advisory Panel for LA's new paper-ballot voting system.  Her 1-woman play about 19th century suffragist Matilda Joslyn Gage wove the spiritual and political activism of Gage with today's need for reproductive justice and conscious parenting.  She was proud to stand with the MOM cast and producers in donating the show's 2017 Emmy budget to Planned Parenthood.  Mimi and the PDA were instrumental in convincing Bernie Sanders to run in the 2016 Democratic Presidential primary; hosting Sanders' first LA fundraiser in her home. She has also worked with the Office of the Americas against the covert wars in Central America and Artists United to Win Without War.Mimi lives in Los Angeles, CA with her husband of over 40 years, actor, educator, and musician Larry Dilg. They have two grown children, two grandchildren and an adorable dog. Also on Episode 81, Dfernando and Wendi are back and touch on things that occurred during their time off: Dfernando's 57th and Greg Covey's 52nd birthdays; Wendi's gift of a week's worth of Magnolia Bakery Banana Pudding and pizza; Wendi's new article in NEW BEAUTY Magazine, which includes various photos from their first photo shoot together (one which includes Wendi wearing one of Bob Fosse's own bowler hats); and Wendi talks about her time in Vancouver where she filmed the new Disney Plus film PROM PACT. On THE RIPE REPORT, Dfernando talks about the new Netflix cake-baking competition show IS IT CAKE?, hosted by SNL's Mikey Day, and Wendi shares a new discovery: Uncle Tetsu Japanese Cheesecake and shares a ROTTEN: celebrities licking faces on the red carpet at awards shows.  Watch Wendi and Dfernando and their TEAM GENERATION RIPE: Greg Covey, Shelley McLendon and Ponciana Badia on Season 7 Episode 2 of CELEBRITY FAMILY FEUD - now on ABC OnDemand and Hulu and on the GENERATION RIPE website.  Follow us on our Instagram:Wendi McLendon-CoveyDfernando ZarembaGENERATION RIPE... and our guest Mimi Kennedy, her Twitter, her TikTok, her Facebook, and her YouTube Channel. Remember to subscribe to GENERATION RIPEAnd rate & leave us a review by clicking HERE!Visit Dfernando Zaremba's website: dfernandozaremba.com

Jim Piddock is an actor, writer, and producer, who began his career on the stage in England, before emigrating to the U.S. in his early twenties. He made his theatrical debut in the U.S. in “The Boy's Own Story”, a one-man show about a soccer goalkeeper, at the Julian Theatre in San Francisco. The show was an instant success with critics and audiences, winning Jim the Bay Area Critics' Best Actor Award. The show was then produced Off-Broadway and he quickly gained the attention of the New York theatre scene. That same year (1982), he was cast in Noel Coward's “Present Laughter” by George C. Scott, who directed/starred in the revival, which also featured Nathan Lane, Christine Lahti, Dana Ivey, and Kate Burton. The show was a big hit on Broadway and Piddock soon found himself appearing in a string of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, including the original US production of “Noises Off”, “The Knack” at the Roundabout Theatre, and “Make and Break” with Peter Falk at the Kennedy Center. After replacing Frank Langella in “Design For Living” at the Circle-In-The-Square theatre, he moved to Los Angeles and has since appeared in a long succession of tv shows, such as “The Tracey Ullman Show”, “Coach”, “Max Headroom”, “The Twilight Zone”, “Murder She Wrote”, “Mad About You”, “Angel”, “ER”, “Friends”, “Crossing Jordan”, “The Drew Carey Show”, “Lost”, “Monk”, “Without A Trace”, “Dollhouse”, “Party Down”, “Law And Order: LA”, “Castle”, “Two And A Half Men”, “Children's Hospital”, “Mom”, “The Royals”, and “The Grinder”. He has also starred in several notable tv movies and mini-series, like “From The Earth To The Moon”, “A Mom For Christmas”, “She Creature” on HBO, and “The Women Of Windsor”. He appeared in his first movie in the top-grossing film of 1989, “Lethal Weapon 2”, in which one of his lines, “But…you're black” in answer to Danny Glover's request to emigrate to South Africa, became a catchphrase for the film. Other feature film roles soon followed, including notable appearances in “Independence Day”, “Traces Of Red”, “Multiplicity”, “Burn Hollywood Burn”, “Austin Powers 3”, “A Different Loyalty”, “Love For Rent”, “See This Movie”, “Love For Rent”, “The Prestige”, “Epic Movie”, “Who's Your Caddy?”, “The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising”, “Meet The Spartans”, Woody Allen's “You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger”, “Get Him To The Greek”, “The Cold Light Of Day”, “The Five Year Engagement”, “1915”, “Think Like A Man Too”, and “Kill Your Friends”. But it is probably his diverse performances in the improvised Christopher Guest comedies “Best In Show” (as the Dog Show commentator with Fred Willard), “A Mighty Wind”, and “For Your Consideration” that he has gained the most attention as a chameleon-like character actor, barely recognizable from role to role. As a voice actor, he is most notable for providing the voice of Major Zero in the English version of the massively popular video game “Metal Gear Solid 3”, Bolero the Bull in the movie “Garfield 2”, and the fictional artistic director of Forever Young Films, Kenneth Loring, doing a hilarious commentary in the directors' cut of the Coen Brothers' “Blood Simple”. His voice work in animated tv series and in video games is extensive and includes “The Lion King”, “Extreme Ghostbusters”, “The New Batman Adventures”, “C-12: Final Resistance”, “Return To Castle Wolfenstein”, “The Lord Of The Rings”, “101 Dalmatians 2”, “The Bard's Tale”, “Dead Space: Downfall”, “Ben 10: Ultimate Alien”, Alfred in “Batman: Under The Red Hood”, “Batman: The Brave And The Bold”, “Skylanders: SWAP Force”, “Turbo FAST”, and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”. He currently released his best-selling book, “Caught With My Pants Down and Other Tales From A Life in Hollywood.” We are so grateful to have him as a guest on, “Black Canvas.”

We're kicking off season 2 with a superstar talent that I met a few years ago on Twitter. Chris Newman is an actor and producer, known for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), The Five-Year Engagement (2012) and Love and Honor(2013).  Chris was born and grew up in Troy, Michigan. Always performing for friends but otherwise shy, he began his acting career in college, on a dare. Soon, Chris caught "the acting bug" and never looked back, starring in productions of "Brighton Beach Memoirs", "Agatha Christie's Mousetrap" and Neil Simon's "The Good Doctor". He would later go on to play Stanley Kowalski in "A Streetcar Named Desire" and Lt. The Blasting Company is a band of multi-instrumentalists known for their specialty in a multitude of musical genres, past and present. Founded as a street band in Nashville by brothers Joshua Kaufman and Justin Rubenstein, the band eventually landed in Los Angeles where they were quickly introduced to the world film and television. Early ventures into film scores include songs written for Burlesque and Five-Year Engagement, but they are probably best known for their score on the Emmy-winning animated series, Over the Garden Wall. The score garnered millions of views by fans on YouTube, prompting Mondo Records to release the first ever vinyl soundtrack of a Cartoon Network show.Their latest series is Costume Quest, released by Amazon on March 8th of 2019. Costume Quest is based on the popular video game series by Double Fine Productions and the world originally created by Tasha Sounart. The show features four kids facing off against the dark forces lurking in the shadows of their sleepy town of Auburn Pines. To overcome obstacles and achieve their goals, they must learn to unlock and master the magical powers of super-normal costumes-with each costume comes a new set of transformations and powers. In this episode, Joshua Kaufman and Justin Rubenstein take us through the development of their catchy main theme for COSTUME QUEST. They share eight versions of their theme, from their original sketches through to the final iteration and in between they vividly describe the process of writing, receiving feedback from the show runners, and finally implementing that feedback.ANNOTATED TRACKS / SEGMENTS03:02 - Piano sketch04:20 - Version 105:18 - Version 206:51 - Version 308:50 - Version 410:24 - Version 511:54 - Version 612:50 - Final VersionOTHER TRACKS00:54 - "Team Elephant"01:49 - "Let's Catch Up"14:07 - "End Credits"14:31 - "Team Elephant"SOUNDTRACKNo information about an official release of the soundtrack is currently available.MORE ABOUT THE COMPOSERYou can find out more about and hear more music by The Blasting Company at their official site https://www.blastingcompany.com/ or follow them on Twitter: @blastingcompanyABOUT THE ANNOTATORProduced by Christopher Coleman (@ccoleman) and you can Find more episodes at THEANNOTATOR.NET or you can subscribe via iTunes, Stitcher Radio or wherever you find quality podcasts.FOLLOW USTwitter @audioannotatorFacebook @TheAnnotatorEmail theannotatorpodcast@gmail.comSUBSCRIBEiTunesSpotifyStitcher RadioRadioPublicGoogle Play PodcastsRSS Feed

KEVIN HART After an electrifying performance at amateur night in a Philadelphia comedy club, Kevin quit his shoe salesman job and began performing full time. However, it was his first appearance at the Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival that led Hart into roles in feature films. In 2009, Hart’s one-hour Comedy Central special, “I’m A Grown Little Man,” became one of the highest rated specials for the network and in 2010, Hart’s DVD “Seriously...Funny” was one of the fastest selling DVDs, going triple Platinum, aided by the Comedy Central special of the same name, which was the highest rated comedy special of 2010. In 2011 Hart released “Laugh At My Pain” the feature film version of his comedy tour, which grossed over $7 million and was 2011’s most successful film of those released in less than 300 theaters, catapulted Hart’s to the number one comedian on Ticketmaster, and helping him to sell out the Nokia Theater for two nights in a row, breaking the record previously set by Eddie Murphy. This lead to the LAMP DVD hitting double platinum in February 2012, after being on sale for only a month. His next comedy tour, “Let Me Explain” took him to 90 American cities along with Europe and Africa - resulting in him becoming the second American in history to sell out London’s O2 Arena. Hart spent most of the rest of the year filming two movies back to back (“About Last Night” and “Ride Along”). Additionally, Kevin starred in huge blockbusters like “Barbershop,” “Undeclared,” “Little Fockers,” "Death at a Funeral," "Fool’s Gold," Steve Harvey’s “Think Like A Man,” and “Judd Apatow’s “Five Year Engagement” and "The 40 Year-Old Virgin." Hart then embarked on the multi-city domestic and international “What Now?” comedy tour. Domestically, he sold out 8 tri-state area arenas, including Madison Square Garden, Barclays, Prudential Center and Jones Beach, selling over 100,000 tickets in the NY market. Internationally, he sold out over a dozen arenas in the European market, selling over 150,000 tickets, and sold out arenas across Australia, selling 100,000 tickets. All in all, Hart’s hit comedy tour grossed over $ 100 million worldwide. Hart’s recent movie projects include the biggest grossing live action comedy “Central Intelligence,” “Ride Along 2,” “The Wedding Ringer,” and “Get Hard.” The consummate worker, Hart is also a force in television, executive producing the show, Real Husbands of Hollywood which just wrapped production on Season 5. Hart’s recent movie projects include the biggest grossing live action comedy “Central Intelligence,” “Ride Along 2,” “The Wedding Ringer,” “Get Hard,” the animated film "The Secret Life of Pets," Universal Pictures will release the feature version of his comedy tour “What Now” (coming out in this month—October 14th, 2016), documenting how he was the first comedian to sell out an NFL stadium, selling over 50,000 tickets in one show.

Tysto film commentaries

Join me and Hardy Lynch of The Speakeasy as we shoot machines at the impregnable flesh of Bryan Singer's Superman Returns. We complain about the, ahem, "familiarity" of many of the set pieces and dialog; about the things that are new and different; about the incredible coincidences, and that a lot of the minor characters have nothing to do. I complain about the physics of Superman flying and lifting a continent. Hardy complains about James Marsden being a wet noodle. We both love a few things, including Kevin Spacey and some of the action. And we wonder exactly who knows what about you-know-who when. We compare the film to Superman, Superman 2, Terminator 2, The Matrix, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and The Five-Year Engagement. We wonder if Superman really left Metropolis to avoid paternity charges or sex offender charges. And we try to rewrite the film and fail.

Get this couple some velcro, cuz they seem to have trouble tying the knot!  The Five Year Engagement, from 2012, stars Jason Segel, Emily Blunt, Chris Pratt and Alison Brie. Jason is a chef and Emily is a gal who's practically made-to-order for him!  They get engaged and she gets an offer for post graduate work in Michigan.  They push their wedding date back two years and Jason quits his San Francisco treat of a Sous Chef job to follow her to the Great Lake State.  Only the state of their relationship is not so great, especially when Emily's program gets extended another three years. Chris Pratt and Alison Brie provide some background antics to the foreground glacial erosion of Emily and Jason's relationship.  It's like watching paint dry and somehow feeling emotionally scarred by the whole ordeal...as if you were once felt up by an Uncle Hirshfields and now every day ends with you figuratively painting yourself into an emotional corner. Paging Wilson Phillips, we need to BREAK FREE FROM THE CHAINS!!! Dave talks about forming his own Dead Poets Society with apathetic culinary students and Noah wonders if a Lane Bryant catalog could've gotten Osama Bin Laden off.

Michael fell into film score composition by chance when The Greyboy Allstars were asked to score Jake Kasdan's first feature Zero Effect and worked on the music for the highly regarded (though short-lived) TV series, Freaks and Geeks.  In 2000, Richard Kelly commissioned Michael to do the soundtrack for the film Donnie Darko. Its original score album went on to sell over 100,000 copies (in part because of Michael's remake of Tears for Fears' song Mad World, featuring Gary Jules).  Michael has since gone on to compose scores for the movies Out Cold, Nothing, Cypher, Orange County, Me and You and Everyone We Know, The TV Set, a segment of Paris, je t'aime, Unaccompanied Minors, and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. More recently, Michael has composed for: Funny People, Bridesmaids, The Five Year Engagement, Cyrus and Jeff Who Lives At Home for The Duplass Brothers, and the upcoming film, The Reluctant Fundamentalist for Mira Nair.
