Welcome to 2025! In the first episode of “Let's talk Marketplace” this year, Ingrid and Valerie have ventured an outlook on the coming 12 months in the marketplace business. To do this, they asked various relevant marketplaces about their plans and to-do lists for 2025. The top topics on the agenda in 2025 will again be internationalization and the markets in Central and Eastern Europe. For example, Douglas wants to expand into Lithuania and Hungary, MediaMarktSaturn into Poland and Turkey. In addition, providers such as BOL and B&Q are courting partners from other European countries. Other topics include logistics, technological challenges and retail media, where Amazon is once again leading the way with video advertising. Note from the sponsor Taxdoo: With the new year, a number of VAT-related topics will become important for marketplace merchants: for example, the uniform VAT ID planned for the beginning of 2025 will not come until 2028. However, the first checks at the one-stop shop are likely to be carried out this year. It is also important to strictly adhere to the OSS deadlines; there are no deadline extensions due to holidays! New at Amazon: For services provided by Amazon Germany, the classic input tax deduction now applies and the reverse charge procedure no longer does. But be careful: it still applies to all other European Amazon marketplaces. Jeremy Hurewitz spent the first decade of his career overseas building the media association Project Syndicate while based out of Prague and Shanghai. He spearheaded a business development strategy that saw the association grow from a few dozen member newspapers in mostly Eastern Europe, to a truly global association of over 300 newspapers in over 100 countries.   When returning to the US, Jeremy worked for several well-known global consulting firms in the world of corporate security. These companies are staffed by former intelligence officers and Jeremy worked closely with these former spies. In addition to former spies, his colleagues included former members of the FBI and the law enforcement community, the Secret Service, the military, the State Department, and other government agencies.   Jeremy learned unique and impactful skills from all these former government employees, and he began utilizing the methods he picked up. Jeremy has synthesized these lessons from government service into the Sell Like a Spy program and works with clients to share these strategies to help them improve their ability to connect with targets, develop creative approaches to close deals, and overcome challenges. We speak with Bugcrowd CEO Dave Gerry in Sydney as he visits Australia to meet with partners and customers. Bugcrowd, a multi-solution crowdsourced cybersecurity platform, has also announced significant global customer momentum, highlighting the market need for Bugcrowd's crowdsourced cybersecurity platform. The company's rapidly growing customer base includes top brands such as ExpressVPN, Rapyd and T-Mobile, which have chosen to partner with Bugcrowd for one or more of its Bug Bounty, Penetration Testing and Vulnerability Disclosure Programs. Serving nearly a thousand organizations worldwide, Bugcrowd empowers customers and hackers to unleash their ingenuity to protect brands and intellectual property. The company drove over 50% growth in payments to the hacker community through customer programs, amplifying a pivotal time of remarkable growth and innovation for the Bugcrowd Platform. ExpressVPN, an industry-leading privacy and security company, chose Bugcrowd for its world-class team of hackers that had skills expertly matched to their unique scope. The company's goal is to allow users to take control of their internet experience – with privacy and security at its core – and Bugcrowd makes this possible by streamlining the reporting, remediation, reward and disclosure processes of a public bug bounty program. ExpressVPN has been harnessing Bugcrowd's powerful and highly-scalable Vulnerability Disclosure and Bug Bounty programs to protect their data and customers for over three years.Bugcrowd's latest customers include U.K.-based fintech company Rapyd, who chose Bugcrowd for its ability to support organizations around the globe in scaling their security programs to meet rapid organizational growth. During a time of major acquisitions and the need for more focused API testing, the 500+ Rapyd team transitioned to Bugcrowd in order to leverage the company's highly specialized team of hackers that fit their exact needs. Bugcrowd's CrowdMatch technology, which enables precise crowd matching, allows organizations to connect with the right hackers for Rapyd's needs. In one year, the team found 40 total vulnerabilities, 15 of which were critical. Top customers also include T-Mobile, the U.S.' leader in 5G with the largest, fastest and most awarded 5G network in the country. T-Mobile and Bugcrowd launched a revamped public bug bounty platform to invite hackers to find vulnerabilities in T-Mobile's applications and websites. T-Mobile evaluates the reported vulnerabilities and takes appropriate action. Recorded 10 October, 2023. #mysecuritytv #cybersecurity #pentesting #bugbounty #bugcrowd

When it launched 25 years ago, coffee brand Tim Hortons did better than competitors in Quebec because it localized most of its content to make it more relevant to the market. On its coffee cups, the brand used to display the Toronto cityscape in anglophone Canada, which was replaced with Montreal for its Quebec launch. Similarly, a client in the US would like to see large streets in his advertising videos. A Parisian, on the other hand, would be more impacted by a landscape with narrow streets. In this latest episode of the Globally Speaking Podcast, Marine Esquenet is joined by Richard Cronin, Localization lead at Google, to discuss how a brand as famous and offering as many diverse services as Google can help its clients make the right decisions and navigate through the complexities of growing internationally. Chui Chui Tan is an International Growth Adviser and Culturalisation Strategist who has worked with big brands like Spotify to ensure they have successful market expansions. I spoke to her about some important issues around internationalisation, global market expansion, and some of the pros & cons of different approaches. A message of support I recently found out that my former leadership coach has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Tracy helped me through some tough times, and helped me improve in various areas. I'm grateful to her to this day. Tracy's friends are trying to raise funds so that she can enjoy some final experiences with her family, and leave behind fond memories for after she's gone. If you'd like to donate anything at all, please visit the link here. Episode highlights: 1. You should start thinking about international growth before you're ready for it You don't need to overengineer from the start, but you do need to make sure you have flexible building blocks in place so that you're not starting from scratch when you do want to expand. 2. It's not good enough to just translate text - you have to understand the cultural context Countries aren't defined solely by their languages - they have different currencies, different date formats, and different norms - you can't just do "International Spanish" and be done. 3. There's a framework to help you choose the best markets You can map potential market size & return on investment against efforts required & ease of entry to help you decide where to prioritise. You'll be working off imperfect information but it's important to think it through. 4. There are two main ways to go into other markets and both have pros and cons You can sell to local companies with global offices counterparts or you can set up an organisation/partner in other countries. They both have pros and cons and it's important to be intentional. 5. Going into unpromising markets is OK but start small Sometimes, big whale customers or globally-minded investors will heavily encourage you to get into a market you don't really want to go into. This is OK, but it's important to take an MVP approach rather than go all in. Contact Chui Chui You can connect with Chui Chui on LinkedIn or visit Beyō Global's website.

According to Fabio Barreto, global CEO of Brazil-based Farm Rio, its tropical, eye-catching designs, along with its prioritization of digital and its unique brand story, have fueled the fashion brand's popularity since its launch in the '90s.  To Barreto's point, Farm Rio's ability to connect with a younger audience through digital channels singlehandedly helped the brand stay afloat during the height of the pandemic, when customers couldn't access its physical retail locations.  "[Ours is] a unique brand. It's a new story, it's a different story, and it's a very strong story. We know a lot of what we are and what we're not and the lifestyle we care about," Barreto said on the latest episode of The Glossy Podcast. "[Our ability to tell] that story in such a strong way, with sophisticated messaging, assets, imagery and visual merchandising, is something that [resonates] with the customer."  Since Farm Rio's inception, it has opened over 90 stores in Brazil alone. And it recently forayed into international markets. In 2019, it opened three stores in the U.S., including in New York and Miami. And in June, it opened its first permanent location in L.A., following a slew of pop-ups. Farm Rio also has a store in Paris.
