Ever wondered what happens when you cross a high-fantasy campaign setting, a Louisiana bayou, and a magical eel with moonshine for blood? The RPGBOT crew found out the hard way when they sat down with Drew Foulke, the founder of Norse Foundry and Hexed Publishing, to talk about his new system-agnostic roleplaying world: Titanskeep. It's a world where gods and titans feud like divorced parents with cosmic custody issues, and adventurers are just trying to survive long enough to figure out whether the lich-titan is actually the good guy. Join the RPGBOT Patreon Want to hear episodes like this ad-free and before anyone else? Join the RPGBOT Patreon today. Get early access to recordings, bonus discussions, and the chance to listen live as Tyler, Randall, and Ash interview RPG creators like Drew Foulke, Keith Baker, and more. Your support helps keep the dice rolling (and the Billy Eels wiggling). Show Notes In this episode of the RPGBOT.Podcast, hosts Randall James, Tyler Kamstra, and Ash Ely sit down with Drew Foulke, founder of Norse Foundry and Hexed Publishing, to explore the upcoming Titanskeep campaign setting — a high-fantasy, system-agnostic world designed for Dungeons & Dragons (5e/2024), Pathfinder 2e, and beyond. Titanskeep, set in the living world of Kalidor, pits gods against titans in a divine power struggle that reshapes the world's fate. Players can join guilds, align with deities, or swear loyalty to mighty titans — and every choice changes the ongoing narrative. Built to support convention-based raid events, local game store play, and ongoing modular releases, Titanskeep promises a living campaign ecosystem that evolves through player decisions. Drew discusses Hexed Publishing's approach to system-agnostic design, collaboration with industry legends like Ed Greenwood, Keith Baker, B. Dave Walters, and Deven Rue, and his goal of producing a constantly supported RPG world rather than a one-and-done campaign book. Tyler shares his own experience designing monsters for the Houdan region, a New Orleans-meets-Venice bayou crawling with illusion-magic, giant bugs, and the now-legendary Billy Eel — complete with random mutations and "moonshine in its veins." Throughout the conversation, the hosts and Drew dive into: The challenge of creating a 5e and Pathfinder 2e compatible RPG setting. The use of guild systems, living world events, and player-driven raids. The design philosophy of Norse Foundry: making dice and props that players actually use. The plan for Titanskeep's Kickstarter (October 2026), free Patreon content, and playtesting rewards. The future of Hexed Publishing, from Gazetteers to modular adventure paths, and how community playtesting shapes their development. Key Takeaways System-Agnostic Design: Titanskeep bridges 5e, 2024 D&D, and Pathfinder 2e, with future support for systems like Daggerheart, Savage Worlds, and Fate. High Fantasy, Low Tech: Magic drives Titanskeep's world; technology exists only where titans allow it. Living World Structure: Players influence world events through guilds, deities, and Titan allegiance — shaping global outcomes. Convention Integration: The setting includes a raid-style convention system, where multiple tables impact shared encounters and titanic battles. Collaborative Worldbuilding: Drew enlisted industry veterans like Ed Greenwood, Keith Baker, B. Dave Walters, Jay Foster, Deven Rue, and Crystal Sully. Player Rewards: Free adventures, Patreon-exclusive ancestries, and physical props (like keys, pins, and holy symbols) connect the digital world to your table. The Billy Eel Legacy: A chaotic creature from the Houdan region, proof that player imagination and worldbuilding can get delightfully weird. Ongoing Support: Titanskeep isn't a single book — it's a long-term evolving campaign world with modules, Gazetteers, and live play updates. Community-Driven Playtesting: Players providing feedback can win $50 Norse Foundry gift cards. Kickstarter 2026: The official launch of Titanskeep will include free metal D20s for backers from the Patreon or newsletter list. This week, Scott sat down with co-hosts emeritus Benjamin Wittes and Alan Rozenshtein, and Senior Editor Kate Klonick, to talk through the week's big national security news stories, including:“Cracks in the Foundation.” The conservative Heritage Foundation—and the broader conservative movement it plays a central role in—has been going through a very public crisis over the past week after its president, Kevin Roberts, came to the defense of right-wing commentator Tucker Carlson after Carlson chose to host white nationalist Nick Fuentes on his podcast. This has led to resignations at the Heritage Foundation, condemnation by certain figures on the right, and a pseudo apology by Roberts. It has also led to a little bit of a reckoning over how some on the right, and to some extent Americans more broadly, have dealt with accusations of anti-Semitism, its relationship to various policy questions, as well as hate speech and other political perspectives. What should we be making of this crisis and what does it tell us about the different policy aspects that intersect with this question of anti-Semitism?“Turning Back the Clock.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent promised that President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping would “consummate” a TikTok deal at their face-to-face last week. But no details have emerged to date. What should we make of this apparent hold-up—and of the TikTok saga altogether? “A Foe By Any Other Name.” As the Trump administration has continued its military campaign against narcotics traffickers in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific, U.S. officials have continued to draw parallels between current policies and the Global War on Terrorism, calling detainees “unlawful enemy combatants” and the groups being targeted “designated terrorist organizations.” “If you are a narco-terrorist…,” Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth recently tweeted in relation to one of the strikes, “we will treat you like we treat Al-Qaeda.” But how accurate are these parallels, and why is the Trump administration deploying them in this way?In object lessons, Ben brings you a little announcement that is shorter than this sentence—you're just going to have to listen to find out. Alan, hungry for more genre fiction, is diving into The Divine Cities trilogy, starting with “City of Stairs,” by Robert Jackson Bennett. Scott is going out of this world with what he calls “the nerdiest object lesson” he's ever brought to RatSec: Pioneer, a tabletop role-playing game that has “launched” on Kickstarter. And Kate, not to be outdone in nerdom, displays maybe the mathiest vegetable: the beautiful romanesco. To receive ad-free podcasts, become a Lawfare Material Supporter at www.patreon.com/lawfare. We get into the history of type design and how he approaches new design with respect for his precursors, the serendipity that led to one of his best-known fonts, how he balances commercial work with pushing the limits of design in personal projects, the artist's trajectory from inspired amateur to spent expert, how he knows when one of his fonts has been ripped off, and his take on AI in illustration and type design. We also discuss his new novel and how it fits with XX and The Black Locomotive, the pros and cons of advertising work, designing the new EC Horror comics, the next Kickstarter he's considering, how he used to keep three different portfolios until he realized it was All Rian and integrated them into one, why his creative mind leaves him with zero interest in meditation, and more. Jamie Buckner's filmmaking journey is one built on passion, persistence, and pure creative drive. After exploring careers in music, architecture, and art, he realized filmmaking combined everything he loved into one pursuit. Starting as a production assistant, Jamie worked his way through Hollywood's ranks on major films like Seabiscuit, The Departed, and John Wick: Chapter Two. But while learning from industry giants, he continued writing his own scripts — most notably Split, a romantic comedy centered around bowling. Determined to bring his vision to life, Jamie self-financed the project, ran a successful Kickstarter campaign, and transformed a short proof-of-concept into a full feature film. His experience on Split became a masterclass in independent filmmaking — from balancing day jobs to managing budgets, post-production challenges, and distribution. The result was a feel-good movie that found audiences on multiple streaming platforms. Through his story, Jamie reminds aspiring filmmakers that creativity must be paired with discipline, resourcefulness, and an unshakable belief in your own ideas. His message is simple but powerful: if storytelling is in your blood, keep writing, keep filming, and never stop creating — because that's what makes you a true filmmaker.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/indie-film-hustle-a-filmmaking-podcast--2664729/support.

In episode 127 of Game Design Unboxed: Inspiration to Publication, we chat with game designer, publisher, and trauma psychotherapist Galen McCown about how getting involved with the Syracuse game design community helped him grow as both a creator and collaborator.   We also discuss his love for solo and two-player games, his fascination with post-apocalyptic themes, and how compact “mint tin” games make great travel companions. Galen dives into his process of collaborating with artists to bring worlds to life, drawing inspiration from 90s arcade classics, and incorporating catch-up mechanics to keep players engaged.   The episode also highlights how games can serve as powerful tools for therapy and learning, the value of niche historical themes, the challenges and rewards of both pitching and publishing, how game design contests can motivate completion, and how documenting his Kickstarter journey through a blog provided transparency and insight for others in the community.   Featuring:  Galen McCown - Guest Danielle Reynolds - Host

You're listening to Bardtenders! In this episode of "The Mixing Glass", Lenny Gotter discusses his career as an entrepreneur. From opening a craft distillery, to founding 1985 Games, to launching successful Kickstarter projects - Lenny is a wealth of knowledge for anyone looking to take the next steps in their career. We also take a deeper look into Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass. Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass is the first campaign setting to come from 1985 Games. While it's written to work with 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons, a primarily combat focused RPG system, it stands out as being uniquely the contrary. Obojima is what we've coined as “leisure fantasy,” meaning that it's designed to be a slice of life more than the kind of campaign where you wage a bloody war across the realms to punch god.  The island of Obojima is a whimsical place inspired by classic anime and adventure video games. It's an idyllic land filled with playful spirits, memorable characters, and vibrant locations. This lo-fi campaign emboldens adventures to be creative, go at their own pace, and take it easy. Parties are encouraged to get to know NPCs, participate in town activities, learn, grow, and explore. One of the biggest draws of Obojima is the brand-new, one-of-a-kind potion brewing system. Featuring over 60 ingredients that can be found throughout the island and can be used to brew 180 unique potions. The potions can be used as utility, combat enhancers, or can even cause hilarious and whimsical effects. The whole in-depth system is fun, easy to learn, and comes with delightful descriptions, location info, and difficulties of procuring for every ingredient and brewable potion. Some ingredients can be a whole adventure in and of themselves to get a hold of! The Obojima potion brewing system can also be seamlessly added to any 5th edition campaign to make more fun for alchemists, herbalists, and brewmasters in the party.Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass is currently available in hardcover and PDF form on their website. It's also available in digital format on DNDBeyond and Alchemy. ------------Lenny Gotter has been a serial entrepreneur for over 25 years. One of the highlights includes opening the first craft distillery to go public in 2014. Lenny Gotter is also the founder 1985 Games and founded the company in 2019. Under his leadership as CEO, the company has consistently executed a series of successful product launches on Kickstarter, as well as building a fulfillment and distribution network in the US and abroad. Lenny has been an avid gamer since 1985 and he loves to run and play role-playing games. ----------Don't miss out on any of the action!  Head to www.bardtender.com to stay up to date with all of the Bardtender content, find resources for mental and physical well-being, get access to education materials, and check out what all of our bards are up to! Support the show

Stine shares how her love of winter, photography and adventure led her to create a brand dedicated to keeping photographers warm in freezing conditions. From sled dog tours in the Arctic to launching a product on Kickstarter, Stine reveals how she and her small team built a global brand that caters specifically to photographers. The conversation touches on the challenges of designing gloves that are both functional and stylish, and the importance of listening to real-world feedback from users.Stine also discusses how the company tests products in the snowy landscape of Norway and why understanding activity levels and photography styles is essential when creating effective winter gear. She opens up about the struggle to balance supply and demand, especially when catering to women photographers with smaller hands, and why the brand has remained intentionally small and community-focused.Listeners will hear about Vallerret's evolving product range, including the return of a women's glove, a new mitt design and the brand's venture into apparel like mountain shirts and insulated vests. Stine explains how each product is made with photographers in mind, not just outdoor enthusiasts. It's a warm, honest and inspiring conversation about turning a simple idea into a purpose-driven business. Is there a better titled film in the history of the medium than DID YOU REMEMBER THE CAT (2025)? I'd argue no. It gives you an idea of what it's about -- remembering a cat. The title suggests comedy (it's a mix of comedy, drama, and horror). And it's something you'll never forget as a film title. Perfection. That's the kind of thought process my guest, filmmaker Daniel Foster, has put into all of his films, and he has such fantastic advice on filmmaking, festivals, crowdfunding, making short films, and more.Happy Halloween. I can't think of a better person and film to spend it with than Daniel and that awesomely titled film, now streaming on Alter's YouTube channel. In this episode, Daniel and I discuss:do we see the cat in DID YOU REMEMBER THE CAT? YES!;how he got started in filmmaking, including film school at Temple University;are filmmaking labs a good alternative to film school?;what constitutes a bad film?what he's learned from each of the films he's made;how did they come up with the beyond brilliant title: DID YOU REMEMBER THE CAT?horror's role as the ultimate big-tent genre;where he got his encyclopedic knowledge of indie films;how accurate his crowdfunding campaign was and what lessons he took away for it;why he was successful on his first day of crowdfunding;why the film was released on Alter and during spooky season;what's next for him;how he comes up with titles and his critiques for short films.Daniel's Indie Film Highlight: feathers, not wings, currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter.Memorable Quotes:"Of course watching movies is the best way to learn, but specifically to watch bad movies. To learn and then analyze like, why is this bad?" "So it's always lure people in with comedy, keep them paying attention with the horror, and then hit them with the message whether it's a gut punch or a little heartfelt like we were going for with, DID YOU REMEMBER THE CAT?""I'm a fan of statement titles. I wanted it to be something that somebody would say in the theater.""My goal and my co-writers goal to make this a film that you would turn on every Halloween and have a fun time with, we wanted it to be a crowd pleaser."About reading the reviews: "I have a incredibly supportive fiance, so sometimes when they get to me, she turns on a spooky movie and makes us some chai tea and we just relax. But no, for the most part, I love like reading the reviews because I have to grow. I have to get better. Some of the critiques that I've gotten have been super helpful in what I'm hoping to do next.""I definitely think if you are able to have your short be between like 10 to 12 minutes is the preferred.""So I think for other shorts, if there's something else like it, there's comps that you can have and that's fine, but when the comps are so similar to what you're trying to do and there isn't anything, a new angle in it, I always think just go back to the drawing board."Links:Watch DID YOU REMEMBER THE CAT?Follow Daniel On InstagramSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/first-time-go/exclusive-content

On today's new episode the guys talk Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees is an original graphic novel written and drawn by Patrick Horvath and published by IDW about Samantha Strong, a serial killer who is also a beloved member of her small, anthropomorphic animal town. When a rival killer begins murdering locals, Samantha must hunt them down to protect her secret and prevent the town from self-destructing. The story is known for its dark, violent plot juxtaposed with a cute, Richard Scarry-style art style. But first did Cody make sure the military wasn't at New York Comic Con? Was this one of the best books of 2024? Does this comic have Dexter vibes? What do we call watching movies with William Hurt? Does this book take place in the 80s? Is Cody aging like fine wine? How does Samantha Strong feel about her community? Did we guess the killer? What's going on in the next volume of this series? How cold is Samantha? Is Good Luck Chuck the Casablanca of our generation? What is scary and creepy about the first murder that draws you in? What does Anthony tell us about DC KO? Our hosts return to the Podcave to celebrate Spooky Season by reviewing the episode, Never Fear!Alex and Will dive into Scarecrow's terrifying glow-up — from botched hangings, to dimension hopping with the Ninja Turtles, to odes of Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven, there's no shortage of theories on how he ended up looking like an extra in the music video for Thriller. But which origin story is actually canon? They also break down Bruce's lamest disguise yet, speculate on what class-A substance might be in Scarecrow's new anti-fear toxin, and discuss the Master of Fear's apparent terror of… filming ransom videos.Tip Jar: https://buymeacoffee.com/batmantaspodMobster Mash 1-2 Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/speechcomics/mobster-mash-1-2-classic-movie-monsters-as-mobstersJoin Our Discord - https://discord.com/invite/bQF76V3nUsOutbreaks Vol. 1 Kickstarter - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/speechcomics/outbreaks-volume-1-an-ongoing-zombie-anthology-series?ref=discovery&term=outbreaks&total_hits=1475&category_id=252Follow us on TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@batmantaspod?_t=8zn1yhsgnfz&_r=1Follow us on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@batmantaspodFollow the Pod on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/batmantaspod/Follow the Pod on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/BatmanTASPod/Follow the Pod on Twitter - https://twitter.com/batmantaspod1Subscribe to Will's Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/willrobsonSpeech Comics Website - https://www.speechcomics.com/Will's WhatNot Page - https://www.whatnot.com/user/speechcomics

Send us a text! We'd love to hear your thoughts on the show.If you've ever wondered whether self-publishing is “worth it,” or felt overwhelmed by all the moving parts—editing, design, distribution, marketing—this episode is for you. I'm joined by Leanne Janzen of FriesenPress, the author-services arm of Friesens Corporation, a century-old Canadian printer trusted by traditional publishers and indie authors alike. Leanne has worn multiple hats—from publishing specialist to leading a sales team—and she's passionate about demystifying today's publishing landscape so writers can make informed, confident choices. We start by clearing up an old term—“vanity publishing.” In 2025, it's out of date. Leanne breaks the indie space into two practical paths: DIY self-publishing and service-provider self-publishing. With DIY, you're the project manager: you learn what you can, hire freelancers (editor, formatter, cover designer), and quarterback the whole timeline. It can be empowering—but also time-intensive and overwhelming, especially for first-timers. With a reputable service provider, you still retain creative control (yes, you can reject a cover or choose your price!), but you also get a dedicated project manager, pre-vetted editors and designers, and quality checks at each stage so you don't miss critical steps. We dig into costs and transparency. Expect a range: a basic path without editing at FriesenPress sits around $2,200, while a premium, all-in “masterpiece” path (specialty cover, three rounds of editing, promo coaching, social planning, promos) can reach $15,000. Industry-wide, a commonly cited average to produce a quality book is $5–6K—and if you're spending in that zone with a service provider, Leanne says at least one round of editing should be included.

All Negro Comics is a landmark issue in U.S. Comic History curated in 1947 by Orrin C. Evans a journalist at the Philadelphia Record (now the Philadelphia Inquirer). Evans intent was to provide positive portrayals of Black Life and Heroism, the exact opposite to the negative stereotypes common in comics, TV, and Movies during that time. 8 years after Action Comics #1 and 6 years after Captain America #1, All Negro Comics was the very first comic made entirely by Black Creators marking a step forward in media for that time. Introducing us to characters such as Ace Harlem, Lion Man, Sugarfoot and Snake Oil to Lil Eggie.Today, We speak with Chris Robinson-Writer/Editor of this historical book as he added new elements in this 75th anniversary issue to bridge the gap with not only the remastered works from the original issue, but Essays from Literary Scholars like Quiana Whitted of Rutgers University and Creators like David Brothers and Shawn Pryor making a connection from what the industry was in the 40's to where many Black Creators have found meaning in their own journey with comics today.Tell, Teach, TributeThe Book was first remastered in a Hardcover version 3 years ago through Kickstarter and now finds a new path as Image Comics has come to distribute the comics in a softcover format in October of 2025.All Negro Comics by Orrin C. Listener discretion is advised.Agents of ALIS is based on the campaign framework Nagalisitu by Caleb Stokes, for Reign second edition by Greg Stolze. Reign 2E has been released in pdf and is available at Atomic Overmind, while the book with the information on Nagalisitu has not been released as of posting. Kyrt has "retired" into aiding the Library of Alexandria as a patron. Never without his beloved Genepal Pep Pup, or his second best friend Sol-Edge.Jared - Captain Kai Uhila - The human captain of the Hypatia. Kai is a bard as is the nature of those who helm the ships that travel the galaxy. A bit of a drunk, a bit of a lech, a bit of a loose cannon, but someone with a strong sense of justice.Laura - Tema Miles - A humanish logistics & security expert on the Hypatia. She wears her heart on her sleeve, and will rip yours out of your chest if you cross her, the ship, or her young ward Libby.
