Send us a textDr. Ken Cooper, a leader in concussion recovery, joins the Vibrant Wellness Podcast to introduce his innovative "Concussion CPR" protocol. When his daughter faced a traumatic brain injury, Dr. Cooper pioneered a method that combines chiropractic care with neurological exercises to support brain recovery. Through impactful case examples, including a rugby player who regained movement after paralysis, Dr. Cooper underscores the critical role of early intervention and the powerful link between concussions and gut health.Dr. Cooper explains practical aspects of his protocol, from using cold lasers to leveraging neuroplasticity. He highlights the risks of conventional pain relievers, like Tylenol, which may hinder the brain's natural recovery process, and instead advocates for non-pharmaceutical pain management strategies. Addressing the long-term effects of heavy metal toxins, he emphasizes the importance of protecting brain health at every age.Dr. Cooper is dedicated to reshaping concussion treatment through education—informing healthcare professionals, coaches, and caregivers about best practices. He discusses his commitment to fostering cross-specialty collaboration to improve concussion care and his efforts to inform parents and sports communities. His upcoming book promises to expand on these insights, offering functional medicine providers actionable knowledge to enhance neurological recovery and long-term brain health. To be a follower of Christ, you must believe in grace — grace for yourself and grace for others. The problem is that we sometimes lose sight of this truth when it comes to people who have done despicable things. And yet no matter how far from Jesus some may seem, you never know how the Holy Spirit may be at work to transform their hearts. On today's episode of the Great Stories podcast, Charles Morris shares two fascinating stories of grace. First, you'll meet Ken Cooper, a former bank robber who recommitted his life to Jesus. Second, Charles will discuss the turbulent life of John Newton and how he went from slave trader to the hymn-writing pastor who penned Amazing Grace.
Search and rescue teams are still combing the streets for people needing help, more than a week after Cyclone Gabrielle struck. About 800 people in Hawkes Bay and Tai Rāwhiti are still unaccounted for. Police are asking people to register on the Police website if they, or a person they were concerned for, is now safe. Hawke's Bay Urban Search and Rescue team leader Ken Cooper spoke to Guyon Espiner.
Eighteen extra search and rescue workers have been sent to Hawkes Bay to help with firefighters efforts. Hundreds of people have been saved since the region was flooded on Monday, but Fire and Emergency received more than a hundred and eighty (180) more calls for help yesterday. Search and rescue specialist Ken Cooper has been brought in to Napier. He spoke to Kim Hill.

A state of emergency remains in place across Auckland and Northland, with a number of roads closed and hundreds of homes without power. http://www.paleojay.comThe truth is definitely in: the whole fiasco of Ken Cooper's Aerobics mania is dead. Along with the high fat diet is the worst, and the even earlier notion of ‘better living through chemistry' which promoted the noxious idea that drugs could not only prolong our lives, but improve them.Despite Elvis and all the other following celebrities who were convinced that those ‘god-like' prescription drugs could only make their lives better- after all, hadn't science invented all of technology like cars and airplanes and tv- shouldn't our biology also be improved upon by science and technology?Well, no. As the whole Paleo Diet and lifestyle revolution showed us, basically we are unchanged since our paleolithic past, biologically. Evolution is very, very slow, just as it is unforgiving of bad missteps. (We are currently devolving intellectually in the Western world, sadly, because of bad ideas about immigration and multiculturalism, that are lowering our average IQ and diluting the obvious strengths of our culture. But that is for another podcast.)And so, by switching to a high-grain and vegetable, low fat and less animal based diet, we severely impacted our health and vigor to the negative! Just as we did when we succumbed (as most do today) to the idea that more drugs and medication are better. (They most definitely are not better.)The NORM should be that a human being should be taking no drugs whatsoever, whatever the age. Drugs, whether prescription or illegal, can only make our overall health worse, not better! Our bodies are amazing things, and will inevitably thrive if we do certain evolutionary, and common sense time-honored things:Live in harmony with the natural world. Get out in the woods and fields, barefoot, and move in nature. Breathe pollen and fresh air, drink pure water from springs and wells. (Not chlorinated/fluoridated pool water as most cities provide). Stretch and move your joints through a full range of motion daily. And do strength types of training on a regular basis, not cardio/aerobics!Since the Aerobics boom in the 70's and beyond, we expected to see a fit, vibrant group of practitioners flourish all about us, inspiring us to emulate their wonderful health achievements! Yet, despite them training for and running marathons, half-marathons, and many other iterations of long distance running, the results we see no are just destroyed hips, knees, feet, and backs from meaningless pounding and jarring. Also, the endless low intensity work just encouraged the body to shed vital muscle tissue, and even impacted the organs as the body interpreted the conditions of evolution to be such that getting rid of tissue at any cost was a necessity, now that the body was being pushed to carry itself for endless miles, day after day, without letup! Also, calorie consuming was vital, since it took energy to endlessly run, so eating bad processed carbs and grains seemed to make sense to this aerobically abused body. And so, people were encouraged to push their bodies like this, at a long, tortuous low-level exertion, day after day, forever. I believe that this forced the body, over time, to succumb to cancer, since the immune system cannot function while being so endlessly insulted and taxed! And when these folks stopped running, because of endless injuries and immune diseases that also proliferated in their bodies because of this constant depletion of resources, without necessary rest and recuperation- why, they just got fat!Depleted of muscle because of endless aerobic demands, these aerobicize

It's looking increasingly likely that the next mayor of Boston will be a female person of color — but for years, the city's inability or unwillingness to elect anyone other than white men has been a defining trait. In Denver, meanwhile, which resembles Boston in several respects, three of the last four mayors have been people of color. So what gives? Nearly a decade ago, GBH News senior editor Ken Cooper — who grew up in Denver, but has called Boston home for years — offered some answers in an article published by UMass Boston's Trotter Review. He joined Peter Kadzis and Adam Reilly to recap and update his findings — and to offer some thoughts on why, finally, Boston seems poised to change its electoral habits.

Patti grew up in Quincy, MA, the eldest of nine children. Her father was second-generation Irish from Dorchester and an all-Navy boxer. Her mother, a Micmac Indian. As a young adult, she worked as a nurse's aid at Quincy City Hospital, filling her non-working hours with beer and kitty whist. Unhappy, overweight, and smoking two packs of Lucky Strikes a day, Patti was stuck. It didn't take her long to realize that at twenty three years old, she was stuck in a pit. She found a book by Dr. Ken Cooper called Aerobics. In this book, Cooper said that there were 3500 calories in a pound, and jogging burned 700 calories an hour. Doing some fast math in her kitchen, Patti deduced that by the end of the week, she would lose twenty pounds. This, she decided, would be the fastest way to be happy. She ran seven laps around the Quincy Cemetery, which was nearly a seven mile run. And she didn't lose twenty pounds by the end of the week—in fact, she could barely walk for two weeks afterwards. But as soon as she could run, she went out and did it again. This led to an astonishing career in athletics that helped pioneer women's marathoning. With no background in highschool track or college running, she went on to set a world record in the 5 mile (25:48). She set the American record for the 10k four times, ending with a 32:08. Patti was the first American woman to go under 33 minutes in the 10k, and the first American woman to break 50 minutes in the 15k (49:42). She set a world record in the 20k, 30k, and half marathon, and won the Newport marathon 5 times, setting a course record each time. She also won the Honolulu marathon 4 times, also setting a course record each time. Patti placed 2nd in the Boston marathon three times, and also placed 2nd in the NYC marathon. She was one of the first American women to sign a pro-contract with Nike. In 52 weeks, she ran 48 races, winning 44 of them.

There are a few things that I am proud of in my life, like my husband and my family and the program I put together of ALL my fathers products. A program that will allow the members to listen, watch and read the lifetime of works by my father Dr. James Sigafoose. What started as a digitizing project to safeguard all my fathers works, became a hope of my father, that I am realizing, to keep his material around for future generations, "but not just at the Sigafoose.com store," as in a lifetime of study for a price that is next to nothing. My fathers works have changed my life and my friend Dr. Ken Cooper too. Have a listen to how over the past three years, of working with Dr. Sig's material, his practice has grown dramatically and his understanding of who we are and what we do has grown as well. Thanks For 3 Years, Dr. Carey
Move over, Elizabeth Warren—there's another #mapoli luminary stirring speculation of a 2020 presidential run. Former Governor Deval Patrick's recent comments to an NPR affiliate in Kansas City, Missouri have stoked talk that he might be eyeing the White House, and there's other circumstantial evidence that suggests it's not just idle chatter. But how likely is it that Warren and Patrick would both get in the race? In this episode of the Scrum, WGBH senior editor Ken Cooper offers some inside intel which indicates Patrick may have been contemplating a run for a while; Peter Kadzis argues that signs point to Patrick being very serious about a bid; and Adam Reilly waxes nostalgic about Patrick's ability to make everyone he talks to feel like they're being listened to with the utmost attentiveness. Taking a different tack: former Patrick campaign manager / current Setti Warren senior advisor John Walsh, who urges Cooper, Kadzis, and Reilly not to treat Patrick for President as a done deal...yet.
We’ve come along way with this investigation. Today we focus on the owner of the Reel-To-Reel recorder, Ken Cooper, as we go from barely knowing anything about him, to discovering a great deal. Hopefully there’ll be a final part, in which we get to chat with some of the people who were on this recording, made 55 years ago, but for now, here’s the penultimate instalment of our reel-to-reel based mystery.
Continuing the investigation into a mysterious reel-to-reel tape recording from the 1960/70s. Does the tape belong to the late Ken Cooper, father of the late David Cooper? Will Steven Mainprize reply to my email and provide us with valuable information? And is Private Frazer a red herring?

Just call 1-877-209-9439 and leave a voicemail, leave a Skype voicemail to username "pacificfit", or e-mail ben@bengreenfieldfitness.com. Listener Julia asks: "I have a question that you probably have not been asked before. I am a top age-group female, age 56, triathlete who has been competing for 21 years. I've done 11 Ironmans including 4 Hawaiian Ironmans. I'm very strong on the swim and the bike but my running is slow due to my (I think excessive) muscle mass and a knee issue. My body fat varies between 18-19%. How can I lose muscle mass? They say at around 35 years of age you start losing muscle mass…..I'm still waiting! How can I lose muscle mass besides starving; because then I would not be able to train for the 8-10 triathlons I do a season? I do not eat excessive protein or take anything that would “beef me up”. People constantly comment on my muscles and I do not lift weights." Listener Patricia asks: "I need your help, I am so confused! I am a female, 5'7, 160lbs. I am trying hard to lose weight but I am really struggling in this department. I have been focused since Nov, and even though I have run three marathons in three months, bike long rides every weekend, run, swim and weight train during the week, and eat moderately well, I have not lost a single lb. I have gotten a local personal trainer to help me with muscle gain to aid towards this goal and recently she lent me a bodybugg device. My Polar HR has been indicating I burn approx. 10 cal/min during moderate to intense exercise. Well, I wore the BodyBugg for a 70mi bike ride (windy and hilly) and while I did not hammer it (working on base building) I was working pretty hard. Well, that took approx 4 hours and the BodyBugg says I only burned 1200 calories! According to my HR monitor, I burned 2400 calories. That's a BIG difference! No wonder I can't accomplish any progress. My trainer says 'welcome to the reality of calorie burn' that BodyBuggs are much more accurate because they use body heat. My question is, what's your input on the difference between the two and what should I trust? Also I cycled for 2:20 min. Body Bugg shows calorie burn of 565 vs HR Monitor (Polar) of 833. I ran for 45 min. Body Bugg shows calorie burn of 404 vs. HR Monitor of 450. Hopelessly confused and quite frustrated." Listener John asks: "While it is fresh in my mind, I was wondering if some point you could give us an idea on training in a city that is not friendly to bikes. This weekend we had a car hit someone riding in a large group of cyclists while obeying traffic laws. In Tennessee, we have passed cycling laws but they don't seem to be getting through to motorists. What are your ideas on how to train when it's not safe to ride all over town? Some of my thoughts, much more training on a trainer or roller, or finding a short loop in a park? I want to improve my skills on my bike but want to be safe also." Listener Mandy asks: "My husband is reluctant to get into endurance sports because he read an interview with Dr. Ken Cooper that said that the free radicals produced by heavy endurance training cause all sorts of diseases from heart disease to cancer to virtually everything else. What is your take on that?" Listener Chad asks: "I was wondering what your recommendations are for taking salt tablets while racing? I have read where you can just take them orally and your body will know when to spit them out. How does this affect your overall health long term? I fall flat after about 3 to 3.5 hours of training or racing, no matter what or how much I ingest for fuel, all of the symptoms that are said to come from low sodium I feel at that point. So I know I need it, but really would like to know the healthiest way to get it. Love all your podcasts, and recommend them almost daily to people." In my response to Chad, I talk about the Millennium Sports Athlytes. Listener Chuck asks: "You've talked about the benefits and science of wearing compression socks: would wearing compression tight have a similar effect, or are these socks designed differently? I have some Under Armor tights and I'm curious if I would get benefit out of wearing these or not." Listener John asks: "In an interview on “goat vs cow's milk”, the guest speaker mentioned that homogenization of milk destroys the fat globules and releases free radicals. We have reduced our dairy consumption, but still consume low fat plain yogurt, some cheese, whey protein and occasionally raw farm fresh milk. I like to make fruit smoothies that usually include yogurt, whey protein and sometimes milk. Is the blending of these ingredients homogenizing the globules and releasing free radicals?" Listener Grace asks: "1. What is your take on Peter Egoscue's pain management methods? I have just started reading this as a way to relieve SI pain and IT band pain. 2. What protein supplements should women take? I have heard so much about whey protein that is not positive, now I am stuck. My training involves running 4 times a week, about 5 miles each and strength training for 1/2 hour each of those days." In my response to Grace, I recommend she check out http://www.runwithnopain.com and http://www.bulletproofknee.com , and also to check out the Mt. Capra Double Bonded whey protein and the Living Fuel LivingProtein. Listener Jim asks: "Do expand a lungs work?" Listener Lorenzo writes: "Dude, my wife stumbled on a new recipe. Our dog is 4 years old today (Chihuahua - Gomez), so obviously we had a party and my wife made him a cake. She took 1/2 cooked quinoa and 1/2 cooked kidney beans (smashed) and "enough" almond butter to keep everything together. she made a "cake" out of it. Well I watched my dog eating his cake and wondered "can I have that cake and eat it too?" So I tried it...it is very good and stayed together extremely well. Probably would be suited best as a meat substitute in hamburger patty applications, use at will but if you get rich off of my wife's invention I will need some kickback." Finally, listener Chuck has a call-in comment about the Triathlon Dominator package. Noulan Bowker told me about Ken Cooper and where to find him. Ken came from Red Deer Alberta to the University of Alberta- Edmonton. He studied Engineering and after graduation as a Mechanical engineer served with CUSO at King MancootTechnical college. He feels strongly that our volunteers come back enriched. Ken's life changed on assignment. He married Akkaporn ( Noy) and had two lovely girls Athina and Angela. I met Angela and her fiancee both graduating from linguistics from SFU.Ken taught a machine design course. Alternate energy machines were the rage then, solar, windmills etc. and wrote a Machine design text. Most machines in Thailand were being manufactured with wood at that time. When Ken came back from assignment he joined a firm called Solar Application Research that worked on energy conservation. It was difficult for Ken and his family to adapt after 5 years away."North America had changed whilst I was away" Hear this wonderful family interview. Thanks Noy for a lovely dinner. Todd Whitthorne discusses Cooper Institute with director of development Connie Tyne. Dr. Kenneth Cooper, the “Father of Aerobics,” founded the Institute, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 1970, six months before opening his world famous preventive medicine clinic. He knew an independent research institute was needed to bridge the gap between fitness faddism and scientific legitimacy in order to establish the direct relationship that exists between physical activity and good health. The Institute is governed by its own Board of Trustees and remains administratively and financially independent from any other enterprise. Todd and Connie dicuss the upcoming luncheon Celebrating Generations of Wellness, honoring Kenneth H. Cooper, M.D., M.P.H., Thursday April 29, 2010 at noon in the Khmer Pavilion, Hilton Anatole Hotel, Dallas. Guest speaker is Tom Brokaw.
