Spend a bookish weekend with us in a country manor house! For centuries, nobles and ne'er-do-wells have gathered on country estates for a bit of leisure, a lot of sumptuous food, sparkling conversation, and general good cheer. You're invited to join us at Trevor Hall for a modern take on the traditional manor house weekend. Together, we'll make ourselves at home in this historic Georgian mansion surrounded by the picturesque North Wales countryside. We'll talk about books, share gourmet meals in the Great Hall, play parlor games, ramble in the Welsh hills, listen to stories by candlelight, and be dazzled by an illusionist from London. Our weekend begins in Manchester, England — a UNESCO City of Literature. We'll take over a boutique hotel in the city center where we'll enjoy an evening pub meetup, spend the night, and start our morning with a breakfast fry-up. Then we're off to the Elizabeth Gaskell House for a private tour of the Victorian villa where the author wrote her classic novel ‘North and South' (and entertained literary friends like Charlotte Brontë and Charles Dickens). After a restorative tea-and-cake break, we'll ride together via private motor coach — just over an hour — through the rugged countryside to Llangollen, a charming historic town on the River Dee in North Wales. Our destination: Trevor Hall. The Hall is a Georgian mansion on a wooded hilltop overlooking green slopes dotted with sheep and horses. After a tour of the house and gardens, we'll ease into country living in the Hall's luxurious (and tastefully eclectic) rooms. With literary activities, entertainment, and surprises planned throughout the weekend, you're sure to be delighted — and have plenty of time to connect with old and new bookish friends. This episode is a joyful collaboration with Tracy of the UK Travel Podcast. When one of your best friends invites you to his wedding in the Lake District in England, you say yes! We first met Cham in Cambodia - back in Episode 114 - and we've holidayed with him across Asia ever since, but meeting up in the UK to celebrate his wedding was our most exciting adventure together yet. My 14-year-old son and I took the opportunity to explore some more of north-west England and northern Wales while we were there, taking in Manchester, Liverpool, the Lake District, and northern Wales, including Wrexham and Llangollen. In this collab with the UK Travel Podcast, Tracy interviews me about my UK experience and I describe it through a thoughtful travel lens, from our planning, our experiences and then our post-trip reflection. Off the plot today and into the Suffolk garden of writer, critic and lifelong gardener Olivia Laing. Laing's diverse career began with their involvement in road protests in the 1980s & 1990s where they lived completely off grid: this led to training as a herbalist, before moving into the literary world. As the deputy books editor of The Observer they wrote extensively on arts and culture, before authoring award winning auto-fiction novel Crudo, and several celebrated works of non-fiction - the most recent of which, The Garden Against Time, uses today's Suffolk garden setting as a lens through which to explore the concept of paradise and the varied, surprising stories of gardens. Whilst Flo and Olivia pot up geraniums they discuss the concept of the gardens as a queer haven for artists like Derek Jarman, Cedric Morris, Vita Sackville-West and the ladies of Llangollen. Flo has her first go at worm harvesting and Flo and Olivia reflect on the growing urgency for public gardens that provide a refuge from urban stressors as well as the climate crisis. On June 16, 1990, 52-year-old Trevaline Evans put a sign on the door of her antique shop saying, “be back in 2 minutes.” The Llangollen, Wales resident popped over to a nearby store and bought an apple and a banana, then disappeared. There were sightings of a woman matching her description around town at different points that afternoon and evening, including one that said she was speaking to a well-dressed man. But she never went back to re-open her store. As the investigation into Trevaline Evans's disappearance got underway, it turned out that this unassuming mom and antique lover had some secrets. For over thirty years, police have been trying to figure out if Trevaline's disappearance was related to what was actually happening in her personal life, or if it was because of a killer who happened to be nearby. Strange messages that have popped up in recent years indicate that there is a great deal in the Trevaline Evans case that lies just below the surface.Anyone with information regarding Trevaline Evans is asked to contact UK Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111. Zi Lan Liao is one of the leading exponents of Chinese music. Her busy career on the international concert circuit, has resulted in her being one of the most widely heard and best appreciated performers on the Gu-Zheng worldwide. The Gu-Zheng is a twenty one string, harp like instrument established across thousands of years of Chinese Dynastic tradition. She began to learn the Gu-Zheng at the age of three when she lived in Guangzhou. By the age of nine she was winning major prizes in China, including the prestigious National Youth Music Competition. By the time she left China for the UK at the age of fifteen, her reputation as a virtuoso performer was already established. She made an immediate impact on her arrival in the UK, by winning at the International Eisteddfod in Llangollen. She continued her music studies at Chetham's School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, where she also specialised in the western concert harp, besides the traditional Chinese Gu-Zheng. Zi Lan has captivated audiences around the world as a soloist with leading orchestras, as a recitalist and through the joyous enthusiasm of her incredible musical workshops. She recorded music for the Oscar-winning film “The Last Emperor”; she has collaborated with Peter Gabriel, Nigel Kennedy, Jah Wobble and other internationally known recording artists. Zi Lan has appeared at most of the major concert venues in the UK, including the Edinburgh, Aldeburgh and World Harp Festivals. In 1996, she featured as soloist in the World Premier of ‘The River', where she played a Gu-Zheng Concerto with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Her collaboration with her husband, Jah Wobble – ‘Chinese Dub' won the best ‘Cross-Cultural Collaboration 2009'. In 2010, she performed with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra again, this time in Liverpool and at the Shanghai World Expo, playing on the new composition ‘Oxbow' written by Ian Stephens. Zi Lan is deeply committed to making the music of her native country more well known in the West, and a desire to share her insight into its cultural and spiritual significance. Despite her busy performing schedule Zi Lan still finds time to assist the Pagoda Chinese Youth Orchestra and Dance Group in Liverpool, both as musician and choreographer. Jah Wobble first worked with the Pagoda Chinese Youth Orchestra in 2008, and his album Chinese Dub won Songlines' Best Cross Culture Album award in 2009. His work left a legacy for the youngsters at the time and inspired them to discover new fusions of Chinese music, with other modern genres. There is a ‘Celebration of Legacy Concert', at the Tung Auditorium in Liverpool, on Saturday 15th July. The concert is a part of a wider series from Pagoda Chinese Youth Orchestra, marking their 40th anniversary with friends and supporters throughout the years. This concert will see Jah Wobble and his band performing with Tian, a band featuring his sons, John and Charlie, themselves two past alumni of the youth orchestra, showcasing the exciting new development of Chinese and Western fusion music.

“Hours, days, weeks and months in the saddle does something funny to your brain. We came back from the trip convinced that cycling was the answer to all of life's problems and that if we could convince every last one of you to choose a bike not a car, we'd be well on our way to saving the planet. Easy, right?!” Those are the words of Beth Ward who, alongside her partner Robin, cycled from Wales to Istanbul in 2019. As they pedalled an idea grew in their minds to set up a community bike workshop. When they returned home, that's exactly what they did in Llangollen. The Irish women Eleanor Butler and Sarah Ponsonby are known to history as the Ladies of Llangollen. In 1780 the two aristocrats caused controversy when they rang away together. They would spend the rest of their lives in Llangollen, a town in north Wales. For nearly 250 years their relationship has been the source of intense speculation. Some claim they were Ireland's first openly lesbian couple. Others insist they just kindred spirits. The Outdoors Fix is a podcast to inspire you to make the outdoors a bigger part of your life. It's hosted by Liv Bolton. My guest in this episode is mountain leader, hiker and trail runner Jack Williams. Jack's outdoors life has had many different chapters. In his twenties, Jack was gripped by pursuing expeditions all around the world, including to the Himalayas and the Sahara Desert. He worked in hospitality and retail in between trips to finance them. But five years ago, he found out he had testicular cancer. Going through that experience led to changes in his relationship with the outdoors and adventure goals. He's now a qualified mountain leader, leading groups and courses in Snowdonia and he's also focused on family, creating outdoor adventures with his two young sons. In the summer, I met up for a beautiful walk with Jack in Llangollen in North Wales, where he now lives. I was keen to hear all about his outdoors story but particularly how getting outside helped him cope with his illness as well as how he's now shaping an adventurous life for his family in the UK. I hope you enjoy this episode of The Outdoors Fix and don't forget to listen out for Jack's tips and advice for those interested in becoming a mountain leader or making the outdoors a bigger part of your life! Also don't miss the birdsong at the end of this podcast episode for a short, calming escape from your busy day. What a guest Nathan and Rich pulled out the bag for this week. 'King' Louis Moult joins the show to talk through everything from making the move from Nuneaton, going to Llangollen and seeing Wes York dance to being left on the bench away at Stoke in the FA Cup and being on the verge of tears after THAT FA Trophy final loss to North Ferriby. Loads to get through and what a gentleman... enjoy. EMAIL - RobRyanRed@gmail.com TWITTER - @RobRyanRed INTRO (CC) - Epic Trailer by Scott Holmes Music
Jessica in her own words: I am a British non-fiction writer living on a hillside in North Wales, where I write with candour (and, hopefully, a dash of humour) about improbable things; UFOs, the United Nations' use of clowns to resolve conflict, and, most recently, the rigours of childbearing. I grew up in Shropshire and, at first, dabbled with sports and adventure writing — I played international lacrosse, was one of the fastest unaffiliated runners in the 2011 London Marathon, and once cycled 5,000 miles across sub-Saharan Africa. My career in journalism began as a reporter for the London Evening Standard's gossip column, although I was not good at it, rarely knowing who anyone was. I moved to foreign affairs in East Africa. There, I notched up datelines (often in a flak jacket, this time) from across the continent, Bissau to Burundi, Congo to Madagascar, and met my future husband, a photojournalist, whilst covering the civil war in Somalia. Within five years, I'd won a number of prestigious awards for my investigative features, including a Frontline Club Award, and was a regular contributor to the Guardian, TIME and Newsweek, for whom I wrote about topics including Islamic militancy, piracy, sexual violence and human trafficking. In 2016, pining for the British countryside, I moved with my husband to Llangollen in North Wales, a decision made in part because it had the tightest contour lines we could find within an hour's drive of a decent airport. I am now a mother to two small boys, and spent much of their formative years writing a book about motherhood – the postnatal period, to be precise – and submerging myself in the icy waters of the river Dee, which courses through the valley below our house. Jessica's first book - AFTER BIRTH: What nobody tells you – How to Recover Body and Mind and is available in all good book shops. Fulfilling this vital need, After Birth is the ultimate postnatal primer for women facing changes to their bodies after having a baby. Addressing issues great and small - from hair loss and stretch marks, to bladder and bowel leaks, painful sex, diastasis recti and mental health - researcher and writer Jessica Hatcher-Moore brings together straight-talking advice on preparation for childbirth, healing, and recovery in the weeks, months and even years that follow. She also offers insights for partners, whose role is often overlooked at this critical time. Blending knowledge from the full spectrum of modern and traditional therapies with honest experiences from mothers, here is balanced advice with no agenda. Taking a broad look at what we can do for ourselves at home, and also when to seek expert help, After Birth will reassure, inform and empower women to reclaim their post-birth bodies.

Film critic Jason Solomons brings a touch of glamour to tonight's proceedings with his report from this year's Cannes Film festival which opened this week. Tove Jansson was the Finnish creator of the Moomins, stories much loved by children (and adults) the world over. A new film, Tove, tells the story of her extraordinary life in post-war Helsinki, the ambivalence she felt towards the success of the Moomins, and how her ideas about freedom were challenged when she fell in love with theatre director Vivica Bandler. The film's director, Zaida Bergroth, talks about the choices she made in telling the story of this iconic author and artist. Welsh culture that is ancient, and modern: Catrin Finch, commissioned by the Llangollen Eisteddfod, plays the harp and is working with a choir - but not just male voices, a choir of singing refugees and asylum seekers. A beat boxer is involved, too. Meanwhile the artist Luke Jerram has turned to another Welsh tradition, throwing a huge, beautiful patchwork quilt over the town bridge. Presenter: John Wilson Producer: Harry Parker
North Wales has some truly wonderful historic buildings and structures – it has more castles per square mile than anywhere else in the World! In this episode, Megan Llyn takes a look at just a few of the heritage sites on offer, including one that has recently become a national treasure thanks to Ant & Dec.
During the summer of 1990, in Llangollen, North Wales, 52 year old antiques dealer Trevaline Evans put a sign on her shop door which read “back in 2 minutes”. She popped across to a local market stall and purchased some fruit for her lunch. Around an hour and a half later a witness saw Trevaline walking near her home, a short distance from her shop. There have been no confirmed sightings of Trevaline since then. Did she choose to disappear? Was there an unfortunate accident? Or was she the victim of foul play by persons unknown?Sources https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/mystery-disappearance-trevaline-evans-almost-16318987.amphttps://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/murderer-who-killed-two-women-20734326.amphttps://medium.com/mystery-confidential/the-mysterious-disappearance-of-trevaline-evans-8c9d6ebccd7chttps://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/truecrimeengland.wordpress.com/2020/09/02/unsolved-the-disappearance-of-trevaline-evans/amp/https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/plaque-memory-antiques-dealer-mysteriously-19616661.amphttps://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/serial-killer-linked-to-21-year-old-case-152988.amhttps://www.shropshirestar.com/news/2011/06/10/ligus-im-a-natural-born-killer/https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/trevaline-evans-new-appeal-over-8445933.amphttps://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-37450337.amphttps://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/killer-christopher-halliwell-trophy-items-20322677.amp

This week we had the absolute pleasure of being joined by friend of the pod, historian extraordinaire and dabbler of the occult, Laura Alston. Laura joins us as a ghost enthusiast to talk all things spooky this season in our very special Halloween episode. We chat about our own experiences with ghosts and Laura takes us through some of the different explanations for those spooky sensations we all experience. Mostly, Laura helps to remind us that most ghosts don’t want to cause harm and we can learn a thing or two about life and what lies beyond it by approaching the veil between worlds. We talk queer ghost stories and Laura reads us the history of the ladies of Llangollen from stunning book, ‘Queer Hauntings’ by Ken Summers. We discuss the phenomenon of Halloween often being described as Gay Christmas and the dangerous notion of queerness being displayed as otherness. Plus, we get a sneak peek into the world of Laura’s pendulum and the importance of channelling your own energy to garner answers to questions in your life. We also have time to cover the latest adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s ‘Rebecca’ from Netflix, with it’s notorious queer coding of Mrs. Danvers and the true gay icon of the film- Rebecca’s bedroom. Hey ho! It's been 84 years, but we're finally back with the second half of this ridiculous 8 part saga! In this fifth chapter of the #HistoricalNightcap, we dive into year 1822 where Anne not only spent a great deal of time with and thinking about Mariana, but also with our favorite Georgian era drinker, Isabella Norcliffe. Love is complicated, and nothing about that changes in the year 1822. We also cover Anne visiting the Ladies of Llangollen and what it was like for her to experience "gay representation" for the first time. The lovely Miss Pickford also makes a cameo and Anne allows mans work to stir her desire for bad woman. If you're not drinking already, you may want to start as we continue on our journey of the bombastic grubble melodrama that is Anne Lister and Mariana Lawton. To help keep ourselves organized, we've included a detailed chapter list below with time stamps and dates for each entry referenced, and as always, we love to hear from you. It's conference season and the Welsh Conservatives got the gatherings underway in Llangollen. Owain Phillips talked to Assembly group leader Paul Davies about stopping the Assembly 'gravy train,' Boris Johnson and whether he's the right man to lead the party to next year's election, while Adrian Masters spoke to the Prime Minister about floods, coronavirus and being back in Clwyd South - the constituency he fought in the 90s.
It is our 100th episode this week and I have been taking listener suggestions for the case we should cover. The disappearance of Trevaline Evans has been suggested to me many times. On Saturday the 16th of June 1990, 52 year old Trevaline left her shop, Attic Antiques, in Llangollen and left a note in the window 'Be back in two minutes.' Sadly the shop never reopened and Trevaline has never been seen since. There were many sightings of her that day and the days prior but what happened to her has never been discovered. There have been developments as recently as last year in her case so there is some hope that we may find out what happened to her however we are still asking where is Trevaline Evans?Important information provided by: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rlbWImm_iE Crimewatch reconstruction September 1990https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/mystery-disappearance-trevaline-evans-almost-16318987https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/cops-referred-themselves-police-watchdog-16300415http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/1413759.stmhttps://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/11681596/Brother-of-antiques-dealer-missing-for-25-years-says-he-hasnt-given-up-hope-of-finding-her.htmlhttps://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/trevaline-evans-new-appeal-over-8445933https://www.denbighshirefreepress.co.uk/news/15761362.police-rule-out-serial-killer-link-to-trevaline/If you want to support the show on Patreon here is the link and thank you!https://www.patreon.com/theunseenpodMusic by: www.dl-sounds.com (http://www.dl-sounds.com/)Follow us on social media:Twitter- @theunseenpodFacebook- The Unseen PodcastYoutube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeX9lQupoivDexPioj0b9Fw (https://audioboom.com/posts/7503078-yorkshire-s-unclaimed/edit)

On Saturday June 16th 1990, fifty-two-year-old Trevaline Evans locked up the antique shop she owned in Llangollen, North Wales. Like many other days running a local business, she popped out to do a few things, leaving her customers a note on the door that read: “Back in two minutes.” Trevaline then purchased an apple and a banana up the road, and was seen two hours later, walking back towards her store “Attic Antiques.” Only the shop would not reopen that afternoon, and Trevaline would never be seen again.Following each episode of Katherine Kelly's true crime TV series Murdertown, Benjamin Fitton from They Walk Among Us unpicks a new case from each location. Lorraine Burdick says she came late to her love for both her vocation and avocation. By day, Burdick is a librarian at Sno-Isle Libraries working in collection development. Away from the library, Burdick can often be found on the Seattle Opera stage as a member of the regular chorus. “I've been working in the library since I was in high school. I started as a page putting books away,” Burdick says. “And I've worked in all the different levels of being a staff member at the library. I put myself through college, my undergraduate degree by working in the library.” After graduation, Burdick was working full time in a library. “… but I was not a librarian,” she says. “A few years and went and, ‘Boy, I really like this work. I want to be a librarian.’ So I've been in the library since I was very young, and decided when I was about 28 to become a librarian.” Similarly, Burdick says her early musical tastes ran toward musical theater, Harry Belafonte and the Kingston Trio, not opera. After happening upon a role with the Long Beach Opera in California, Burdick has been focused on the classic form. That opportunity turned out to be a gold-medal choice. Burdick decided to enter the solo category as a mezzo-soprano in the International Musical Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales. “(The) choir that I was singing with was going and I thought, ‘Well, I'm a singer, I will go and audition; I will go and participate in the solo competition,’” she says “I'd never done anything like that before. “… I won first place.” For the past 11 years, Burdick has been singing as a member of Seattle Opera’s regular chorus. “Whenever there is a show that has a full chorus, I'm in it, unless I'm not available but I usually I'm because I love it,” she says. Burdick says her interest and expertise in music pays off while performing her duties as a collection development librarian focusing on children’s materials, which she has been doing since about 1985. When reviewing additions to the library’s musical collection, she casts a critical eye. “I listen to see if it sounds like it's well-produced because a lot of these are self-published,” Burdick says. “I listen to how it's orchestrated, meaning what kind of instrumentation it has. I listen to how the person sounds, I listen to several of the songs on it to make sure they don't all sound exactly the same. And I look and see what they're singing about, and such.” Combining both vocation and avocation makes Burdick smile. “One of my favorite points is when I finish singing and there's this moment of silence before the audience starts to applaud, that is just, I just feed on that,” Burdick says. “That's just a joy.” And the library? “I really believe that the library provides many, many, many tools for people to live fully,” Burdick says. “Collection development gets to choose all the books, audiobooks, eBooks, DVDs; all the materials people can check out.” And she loves that, too. (We are three days late with the update, and we are so sorry, but we were late because we were getting married so at least we have a very good excuse) This month Laura and Will discuss the ladies of Llangollen, and desperately try to pronounce Welsh words with minimal stumbling. They then discuss Horror cinematography, and The Haunting of Hill House, which is available to watch on Netflix. [Disclaimer: some of the sources may contain triggering material] Telegraph Travel. The song I have sent you this week is one that got away….it was an idea I came up with a long time ago while wandering through Liverpool…I was so impressed by some of the buskers…especially those in the subways where they get natural amplification and reverb…. And ”Subway Songman” was born…these guys play to an ever changing audience of thousands and most of them are better than most so called “stars”….the words say it all…I never did much with it so it stayed in my drawer until now….I might re-incarnate it. The Jimmy Savile scandal rolls on and is filling the news…..the BBC are taking a lot of stick over this…quite rightly so…and Tony Blackburn has been sacked over some past indescretion…I understand it to be not giving correct evidence in times past….in other words obstruction…I think a few more heads will roll on this one…..what seems to be overlooked is the amount of money Savile raised for charity…not that this is any sort of excuse but this was probably the reason for the cover up. I always regarded him as a complete talentless buffoon but obviously if he was of financial benefit blind eyes must have been turned ….I must say it is all quite riveting …I wonder who will be next…I bet there are a few knees knocking. I’ve just got back from a few days in The Lakes…the weather was great…frosty with clear skies…perfect for walking…on the way back down the M6 motorway as usual cars were hurtling past at ridiculous speeds despite the zero temperature and warning of ice on roads….then on the radio comes a report stating that there’s been a record number of speeding prosecutions involving cars travelling at over 100 mph…what I fail to understand is why the law doesn’t come down big time on these idiots….fine them thousands of pounds and ban them for life…problem solved….but you will naturally still get the brainless moron who continues to totally disregard the law…AND the human rights brigade must not be offended of course….God forbid…Or why not re-direct some of the money spent on sending some bloke into space to do summersaults and fill the motorway with speed cameras?…they would soon make the money back. Other news items have included Richard Branson’s replacement rocket ship which he intends to take people 60 miles above the Earth…despite the first one crashing and killing the pilot….is it me or is there any point to all this?…I’m sure it will be a wonderful experience for the passengers but personally I think they should all be declared insane. And the Flying Scotsman has made its first trip since its 10 year makeover…from London to York…£450 a ticket…and it has caused such a stir that it had to stop because over enthusiastic trainspotters strayed on to the line….words fail me…and one chap set his camera up to capture it going past only to have the historic event blocked by a Virgin train going the other way….priceless…as I said the other week we did an item on it about 12 years ago when I worked on Radio Merseyside…it was on display in Llangollen and we interviewed the driver on the footplate…it was HOT…very HOT!! I watched The Brits on TV last Wednesday….it was on the cards that Adele would clean up…which she did….she deserves her superstardom although I’m not a fan….couldn’t see the point of Ant and Dec and neither could anyone else by the look of the audience….and what was Alan Carr doing there?….I thought for a minute he was going to sing….I was just about to leave town!!…his squawking voice is enough…and isn’t it about musicians?…the highlight was the Bowie tribute….absolutely fabulous band and a classic performance from the young lady called “Lord”….I thought it was sensational and totally stole the show. And there has been some very bad news….”Benidorm” is set for ANOTHER series….roll up all you has beens for your free holiday in Espana.

The song I have sent you this week is one I wrote for my pal… wrestler Adrian Street….he used to enter the ring to it….”Imagine What I Could Do To You” Back in the day I took it down to RCA Records along with other stuff and was told it was possibly the worst record in the history of music (probably is)…however it ended up on MTV in America and in a movie called “Grunt”. At the time I put the quote from RCA on the sleeve along with a health warning…..I included this on an album I produced for Adrian…which has recently surfaced again and two record companies want to release it on blue vinyl…so take that RCA !! 2.Every week we have a jam session at a local venue where we raise money for sick kids charities…www.thecheshirecats.co.uk …this week we had a special guest in the shape of legendary songwriter Barry Mason. It was a great night and nice of the man to help our fundraising…and he looks incredible for his age. 3.There is a programme on TV called “The Jump” where celebs are trained to race down toboggan runs and carry out ski jumps…I’ve always thought this was an accident waiting to happen and it has….Olympian Beth Tweddle ended up with a broken neck and is still in hospital and there were several other injuries…I remember last year Mike Tyndall came a cropper on the ski jump and was very lucky not to do some serious damage to himself…the fact that he is a rugby player built like a brick outhouse probably helped.
