Drive Thru Metal" masters Mac Sabbath have quickly earned a cult following since forming in 2014 thanks to their surreal and hilarious take on the legendary songs of metal greats Black Sabbath. Dressed like a horror movie version of everyone's favorite cheeseburger-hawking clown, frontman Ronald Osbourne leads the band through fast food-themed versions of metal classics, and ticket buyers never fail to eat it up thanks to the band's witty humor and no-joke skills. The group is much more than just a Golden Arches-inspired stage show – they can seriously rock, matching the thunderous sound of Black Sabbath classics like "Paranoid", "Sweet Leaf", and "Iron Man" with their parodies "Pair-a-Buns", "Sweet Beef", and "Frying Pan". For audiences looking to sink their teeth into a deliciously demented take on metal, Mac Sabbath satisfies the craving with their wild performances and headbanging sound. Mac Sabbath, fast food-themed Black Sabbath cover band, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The band returns to Chicago for a show at Reggie's on August 28. Since the characters of Mac Sabbath exist under a cloak of anonymity, I'm joined by band manager Mike Odd for a conversation about one of the most insane band concepts I've ever seen.See you at Reggie's! Full Rig Details: https://www.premierguitar.com/videos/rig-rundown/donny-benetSubscribe to PG's Channel: http://bit.ly/SubscribePGYouTubeThere's comical bands (Gwar), there's parody bands (Steel Panther), and there's clever combinations of both (Mac Sabbath). The Italian-Australian Donny Benét is none of those and all of those at the same time. His polished compositions, breezy rhythms, and funky fretwork are no laughing matter. Instead, Donny is the joke … or is he?“I thought, “What would I think if I saw some bald, chubby dude shredding on bass and fretless?' I'd be like ‘hell yeah,' so I might as well be the guy that'll do it,” explains Benét.Donny (born Ben Waples) is from a musical family in Sydney, Australia. He grew up performing on several instruments, became classically trained on piano, and earned a master's degree in double bass. The fluent musician started a career as a jazz bassist for various artists in Sydney, and eventually shifted to an experimental jazz/electronica band, Triosk. While both endeavors were challenging and rewarding, Ben wasn't having fun. After Triosk disbanded, Waples continued writing and recording on his own. It started with Cubase and a Line 6 DL4 that gave him 48-second loops. He started making “Donny Benét” joke songs. His friends and family continued encouraging him to make more, and before he knew it he had enough material to create Don't Hold Back. (To this day he still records all the parts except saxophone, played by his brother Daniel Waples.) And through his passion for creating music combined with his love for '70s funk and R&B—he mentions his introduction to electric bass was via a VHS tape featuring Larry Graham, Bernard Edwards, and Nile Rodgers—infused with the aesthetic and aura of Itala-disco performers, Donny Benét was born.“I'm a seriously trained jazz musician in a prior life, and I try not to take myself too seriously now, but I'm deadly serious about taking the piss out of myself. I like humor, but I definitely don't make joke music,” states Benét.Since 2011, he's released six albums, all showing an evolution and refinement of the Don. Each release has revealed a new part of Benet's infinite swagger, blending influences of Prince, Alan Vega, Lou Reed, Tom Jones, and, of course, James Jamerson, “Duck” Dunn, and the funk forefathers. Yes, Donny B can sweep you off your feet, but that's because one thing reigns supreme—the music.“With Donny I've always taken the approach of ‘what would I listen to?' I started there and I continue to follow it. If no one likes it, that's fine, so long as I like it. If someone else likes it, even better,” says Benét.Before his headlining gig at Nashville's Basement East, Donny B welcomed PG's Chris Kies onstage to chat about his minimal-but-musical setup. Benét explains the origins of “Donny,” covers his custom Furlanetto 4-string and why he calls it “probably the best live instrument I got,” and discusses scoring tons of gear when the exchange rate presents deals.Full Rig Info: https://www.premierguitar.com/videos/rig-rundown/donny-benetSubscribe to PG's Channel: http://bit.ly/SubscribePGYouTubeWin Guitar Gear: https://bit.ly/GiveawaysPG Don't Miss a Rundown: http://bit.ly/RIgRundownENLMerch & Magazines: https://shop.premierguitar.comPG's Facebook: https://facebook.com/premierguitarPG's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/premierguitar/PG's Twitter: https://twitter.com/premierguitarPG's Threads: https://threads.net/@premierguitarPG's TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@premierguitar0:00 - D'Addario Pedalboard Essentials0:15 - Chris Kies Intro0:49 - Donny Benét Intro1:42 - Donny Benét Origins8:55 - Custom Furlanetto "F Bass" VF413:39 - D'Addario & Rig Rundown14:11 -...
This episode looks at Johnny Cash's “The American Recordings”, a series of 6 albums released on American Records between 1994 and 2010. By 1994, when he signed to Rick Rubin's American Records, it looked like Cash's career was all but done. However, Rubin had other ideas and, over the next 10 years, worked with Cash to produce some of the most memorable work of his career. Part of this process involved Cash covering songs by some of the greatest artists of the late 20th Century - U2, Nine Inch Nails, Nick Cave, Tom Petty and Leonard Cohen. He's not performing the songs in his usual country style, but simply as Johnny Cash. It's a great story, with a fabulous playlist! Jeff's found 5 bands you would not believe exist, including Mac Sabbath, a parody of Black Sabbath with lyrics about fast food, and Shat, a band that is offensive in every possible way, whose lead singer's costumes are draped with dildoes! Our "Album you must listen to before you die" is “Arrival” by Abba. Reviewers weren't convinced. Neither is Jeff. Have a listen and see what Mick thought. You know you're in for a good episode when it starts with the battle of Mini Kiss and Tiny Kiss. From there we talk bands with bagpipes, bands that dress like fish and... Mac Sabbath! This weeks superfan wears her fandom across her upper back and appears to have more connections with the band than she realizes. Tune in now to catch this fantastic interview with a superfan of one of the greatest rock bands that ever lived. Contact the show via the form at SuperfanNews.net if you or someone you know would like to appear in a future episode.
If you were to ask my wife, “What two things sum up Chris?” … she'd likely respond with “grilled meats and heavy metal.” So, given the chance to interview the self-appointed (and unchallenged) founders of “Drive-Thru Metal” that solidified their crispy claim with classic cuts “Frying Pan,” “Sweet Beef,” and “Pair-a-Buns,” I ordered a full plate. The thing is, you don't just interview guitarist Slayer MacCheeze and bassist Grimalice. Not because they're from the “bowels of outer space” and don't speak or understand English. They converse quite well. But these seasoned freaks don't do anything for free. Everything's on the menu and it's all for sale. Thankfully, minutes before doors opened at Nashville's longstanding rock beacon, Exit/In, Mac Sabbath's techs Bill Woodcock and Jonathan Hischke summarized their monster masters' tangy tone tools. The flash-fried, seedy conversation quickly taps some key signature gear of another Sabbath that equally sweetens and thickens the band's sound like a condensed and chilled milkshake. Plus, there's a story about how one fateful Black Friday deal provided an iconic, golden-arch bass. Here's to a fun-hearted Rundown with the Milky Way marauders that fight back against stale food and rotten riffs. And by the end, we bet you'll be saying “I'm loving it.”[Brought to you by D'Addario XS Coated Strings: https://ddar.io/XSE.RR]

Cass' shirt led us down a weird rabbit hole on the internet and what a journey it took us on. Did you know about Mac Sabbath? In other music news, we found the WORST band currently touring, and you'd be shocked who the lead singer and guitarist are. We got Ill with some news about what happens when you drunkenly steal your boss's car and leave it on train tracks, or when a shirtless man falls from the sky. Anthony chronically gets locked out of his house, and Cass thinks it may have something to do with the chronic. Does Cass lose again in Can't Beat Cassiday? What happened at the hardware store when a kid had to go #2? Why you should watch AGT tonight and the craziest wedding stories you've ever heard. Lending his creative talents to numerous animated series, his recent credits include the highly anticipated Netflix animated series The Cuphead Show based on the beloved video game, the Hanna-Barbara series Jellystone for HBO Max, and two projects set in the Spongebob Squarepants universe – the Paramount+ Original Kamp Koral as well as Nickelodeon's The Patrick Star Show. The Forces Of Evil, as well as Nickelodeon's Welcome To The Wayne and Harvey Beaks – for which he assembled Nickelodeon's first-ever 60-piece orchestra! His next scoring projects are pair of Richard Elfman movies. The first is a sci-fi comedy titled Hipsters, Gangsters, Aliens, & Geeks, and features Rebecca Forsythe, George Wendt, and Verne Troyer in his final role. The second is the long-awaited sequel to the cult classic, Forbidden Zone. Plum is co-composing the original scores and songs for both movies with Danny Elfman. In an effort to bring his eclectic influences into his cartoon world, Plum has collaborated/recorded with members of XTC, DEVO, Bauhaus, Black Flag, Descendents, The Dickies, Oingo Boingo, and others. In addition, Ego Plum serves as the musical director of the Raymond Scott Electronic Ensemble and has toured the United States and Europe playing guitar with Grammy-nominated comedy-rock group Green Jellÿ, and he may or may not be a founding member of the parody heavy metal tribute band Mac Sabbath. Ego was born in East Los Angeles where he was raised by his immigrant parents. Foregoing any formal education, he sought refuge in the local punk rock music scene as a drummer and made his way as a composer up through the School of Hard Knocks where he is now a tenured professor (and sometimes, unfortunately, still a student). Still hung over after seeing The Who together at Chase Center, Paulie, Tony and Shannon reunite in the studio to discuss the red hot 49ers heading down to LA, Kershaw and the Dodgers demise, as well as a cover band called Mac Sabbath. Tempers flare, Oasis is dissed, and I guess it's a crime to say you are a fan of Nick Cave(according to Paulie). Enjoy.

Conan O'brien and his writing team are accused of joke stealing and settle a major lawsuit out-of-court. Reid takes us on a trip to Wilmington, NC where he tells jokes to strangers at the Cape Fear Comedy Festival. A tale of two live shows, Ryan gives us a front row perspective on Yob and Garbage and the guys praise the coming of Mac Sabbath. Plus, tariffs encroach into the tabletop gaming world and the big news in comics: writer Tom King is leaving the Batman series. What else could we pack into this show? How about reports from Free Comic Book Day, everyone's favorite quiz show, Magic the Gathering Card or Metal Band and a fond farewell to Tim Conway and Roky Erickson

New sub genre! How about "Drive Thru Metal"??!! Never one to stray from unique interview opportunities, we just had to speak with one Mac Sabbath (not a typo)! As kids of the appropriate age, Mac Sab is both a pleasant dream and a brutal nightmare. Since the members of the outfit don't actually speak, we sat down with manager extrodinaire Mike Odd to get the 411 on this bizarre combo. Mr.Odd gave us the origins of MS, explained the "Odd-itorium" and shared where this as going in the future. Order up!! Mr. Odd was gracious enough to share our stage with our old buddies in Canack thrashers Untimely Demise. The boys were in town recently to celebrate the release of their latest release "No Promise Of Tomorrow". We sat down with axeman Matt Cuthbertson (Into Eternity) for a chat in our "Extended Indie Spotlight". We discussed the new record, working with artist Ed Repka and guitarist Bobby Koelble (Death) and being tapped for I.E. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we discussed the announcements of some major tours, new unique Anal Trump (!) product, and give the Horns Down to greta van fleet and king 810. Musically we crank our guests and new tunes from Cripple Bastards, Ektomorf, and Hate Eternal! Horns!! This Episode is sponsored by Trve Kvlt Coffee. Wilkommen, Nerfherders! Are you enjoying our new theme music? Of course you are. The band who recorded it, Galactic Empire, is about to kick off a new tour. We get Dark Vader on the show to talk about hitting the road with Mac Sabbath, recording their upcoming album, and our main topic for this week: comparing "The Last Jedi" to its predecessor, "The Force Awakens". Two very different movies, two very different approaches, two very different fan reactions. Which comes out on top? Well, that depends on how you approach the topic!

McDonaldland was lost. A flame-scorched, ruinous wasteland dotted by tyrannical city-states. Lost to time. Governed by robotic opressors with names like "Atlas" and "BigDog" and "Spot". The Fry Kids were the first to go; captured and killed in an attempt to break into Boston Dynamics and disable the machines. Soon after, the McNugget Buddies were cruelly shredded in a public display of slow and agonizing torture. Mayor McCheese held his ground admirably, for a time. But it didn't matter. Boston Dynamics robot designation "Handle" made short work of him, leaving only a smear of blood, tears, and pickles where a brave man once stood. I know what you're wondering, as I tell you this. What of our savior? What of Ronald? I will tell you, but only if you can keep very still and remain very quiet. The robots are never far away. Come. Listen and learn. Discussed: The Maker's Mark Ambassador program, courtesty of the Bargain Hawk. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Two possum fables are relayed: "The Tale of Omelia, Granny and the Possum" as well as "Anastasia's Sorrow". Pretty Pretty Princess My Little Pony Dog. London chain pub piss dungeon. Being cyberpunk and deleting bad Facebook memories. "I know most words". Mac Sabbath. The legitimacy of the term "McJob". The lore and characters that exist in McDonaldland. Another week, another podcast reviewed on WATP. This week we had the pleasure of reviewing a podcast we actually really enjoyed called My Dad Wrote A Porno. The premise is simple. A few English folks read passages from an erotic novel written by one of the host's dads. Trust us, it's ridiculous and funny. Kevin and Karl both enjoyed this show thoroughly and pulled a bunch of clips that will hopefully convince you too. Karl shoehorns in another song parody and tells us about his weekend seeing McDonald's themed Black Sabbath cover band, Mac Sabbath. Kevin laughs a lot and says "like" roughly 342 times (we estimated) during the episode. So take that America, we CAN like a podcast as long as it features discussions of a porno nature. Enjoy!
Yes, this is Episode 12... listen and learn, as we work on our NPR sound! It's our End of Summer episode, and we dive right into some Labor Day BBQ talk. Hear what Dickie Bronson brought to the Venom spread, as well as just how much butt was smoked at another Labor Day event. Ric talks Amazon.com Prime Pilot Season. Somehow, this moves into bathroom etiquette, and you'll be asking yourself "flop or fly?" when it's over.. Then takes some heat over his Kevin Smith fandom, and seeing Yoga Hosers. Jason jumps in with some Winners and Losers of the summer of 2016! Stranger Things vs. The Night Of.. who wins the summer? We also talk about some recent concerts and what we're looking forward to.. "Who is Agent X?" That was the question on the lips of at least dozens of Marvel fans back in the year 2002, when the company cancelled its low-selling title DEADPOOL (no, seriously), and replaced it with a new book called AGENT X. While the titular character seemed to share a lot of traits with everyone's favorite Merc with a mouth, the mystery of his true identity, and how it ties into Wade Wilson, was in fact a driving force of the book. Trev hasn't read the book since it first came out, but Joe just recently read it for the first time. In this episode, Trev valiantly attempts to remember the plot-twists and reveals of the story, and both guys discuss the book's place as an odd footnote in Deadpool history, and whether it was a worthy temporary replacement still worth revisiting today. Also, more talk about the upcoming NEW MUTANTS movie, which has just announced its writers, and Bryan Singer's recent comments about the LEGION TV series tying into the movie universe. Plus, Doug Liman's exit from the GAMBIT movie is discussed in another new episode of everyone's favorite podcast-within-a-podcast, Chatting Tatum. Meanwhile, an attempt to keep this episode more on target than usual is obliterated by talk of Mac Sabbath, Crystal Pepsi, THE MATRIX, waifu's, STRANGER THINGS, THE RING, and more.
