On set Ebi Shankara and Eswari Gunasagar were gushing over this new show called ‘Karuvanam' on Vasantham in early Dec, and I took a peek and was blown away. I had to meet one of the guys behind this. We chatted, and it's not often that I get back so much from listening to this younger, serious filmmaker. He was so bent on not having his photo for this podcast that all he gave me was this blurry photo. I could have stolen one from the ether, but I'll honour his direction.Kumaran Sundaram is an award-winning Writer/Director with over a decade's experience. After studying film, he directed and wrote acclaimed works like Oh Butterfly, which won a Global Tamil Series Excellence Award at Edison Awards 2024. His MMA-themed drama Achamillai Manamae (Fearless Heart) won Best Direction at the New York Film and TV Awards 2023 and was nominated at the UK's Content Innovation Awards. Jillendru Oru Kalavaram (Happy Chaos), streaming on Netflix, garnered recognition. With credits on platforms like Viu and Discovery, he has produced programs internationally and aims to deliver life-changing stories, touching hearts one decisive moment at a time.

Deeply committed to protecting the constitutional freedoms of every American and the integral human rights of all people, The Rutherford Institute has emerged as a prominent leader in the national dialogue on civil liberties and human rights and a formidable champion of the Constitution. When you’re a young couple it’s easy to order in or dine out on a daily basis, but when the kids come along, spending time in the kitchen to prepare nutritious and healthy meals for them can become a problem for some dads. We turned to gay dad and celebrity chef David Burtka who just published his debut recipe book Life is a Party, to get some advice, inspiration, and support as we take our baby steps in the kitchen. One of the main things we learned from our interview with David is that healthy eating habits for your kids stem from the way we, the parents, behave and interact with them when it comes to food. “I think that some parents also don’t want to put up a fight and don’t want to argue with their kids so they’ll just make a second meal,” David says. “You know, there’s no option in our house, there’s no second meal. What we’re eating for dinner they’re eating for dinner.” “My kids will eat anything you’ll put in front of them. And I think that there’s a lot of parents that just give their kids jarred baby food, and there’s no salt, there’s no flavor, and of course they’re learning to eat bland so no wonder they just want to eat chicken nuggets and macaronie and cheese. I think that the more we  try to expose our kids [to flavors] the better eaters they will be.” For those who struggle in the kitchen, David suggests to start with cooking chicken. “A roast chicken is one of the easiest things you can possibly do,” he says. “All you do is you pat it, you put salt and pepper on it, you put it in the oven, 425 for an hour. That’s it.  “You can have it that evening and then you can have chicken for the whole week. And there’s so many things you can [make from it], like soup or chicken pot pie, chicken enchiladas or a chicken salad – which is putting it on a regular green salad. It has endless possibilities. Even with a roast, you can cut half of it and put it in the freezer, I mean, proteins freeze really well, you can put them in the freezer for two weeks and then repurpose it in another way. That’s what I’m always doing.” David Burtka is an award-winning and sought-after host, chef, caterer, and actor. He has appeared on Broadway and in numerous television programs. David studied at The Cordon Bleu culinary school and interned at the acclaimed restaurant Babbo. He has also worked with Cat Cora, Thomas Keller, and Ina Garten. His Food Network special, Life's A Party with David Burtka, aired in 2016 and was awarded a Telly Award and 1st Prize at the New York Film and TV Awards. Today, the term “summer movie” is synonymous with big budgets, explosions, superhero franchises, family-friendly animated films, and sequels. Yet this wasn't always the case. In the summers of the 1960s, years before 1975's Jaws began to redefine the blockbuster, successful new releases were held over in certain cities for months, and risqué international films were shown alongside schlocky American B movies. For this week's episode, we flash back to the summer of 1966 to see what was playing in Cincinnati, Washington D.C., Chicago, and New York City (all five boroughs), featuring J. Hoberman, critic for The New York Times; Nick Pinkerton, regular FILM COMMENT contributor; and Ina Archer, co-chair of the Women's Film Preservation Fund for New York Film and Television, in conversation with FC Digital Editor Violet Lucca.

This Walkley Media Talk celebrated the diversity of story-telling and the many new platforms indigenous journalists and storytellers now have space on to tell their stories. The discussion examined the rise of indigenous media into the mainstream and new innovations in storytelling and the implications for coverage of indigenous affairs in Australia. It also examined the challenges and importance of meaningful collaboration and the experience of non-indigenous journalists in covering Aboriginal issues. This panel was moderated by Karla Grant (@karlagrant28), of SBS Living Black. Malarndirri McCarthy (@malarndirri) is a senior journalist/presenter for SBS/NITV News. The former ABC newsreader began her cadetship in 1989 and worked as a journalist until 2005. That year, the Yanyuwa woman from Borroloola in the Northern Territory became the Member for Arnhem in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly. After the 2008 election, Malarndirri was promoted to the Ministry, where she served as Minister for Children and Families, Indigenous & Regional Development, Tourism , Statehood, Women's Policy, Senior Territorians, Young Territorians and the Minister Assisting the Chief Minister on Multicultural Affairs until August 2012.
