A (relatively) in-depth analysis of French musician Nicolas Godin in (just under) fifteen minutes.The French electronic music duo Air was formed in 1995 by Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel. Godin was born in Paris and studied architecture and Jean-Benoît Dunckel was a mathematics student.To begin with, Air was a solo project. Godin, an amateur musician, was asked by a friend to compose a song for a compilation to be released by Source, a small French independent label. 'Modulor Mix', a tribute to Le Corbusier, was recorded on Godin's Portastudio, and appeared on the Source Lab album. With several remixes, it was re‑released on British label Mo' Wax in 1996.In 2015, Godin released his first solo album Contrepoint (Because Music), inspired by the music of Bach. L'émission 28 Minutes du 13/03/2024 Air, le groupe culte de la French Touch, remet le pied sur la lune « On faisait partie d'une scène qui ne s'appelait pas encore la French Touch et était la chose la plus merveilleuse à vivre. » Jean-Benoît Dunckel et Nicolas Godin font connaissance au lycée Jules-Ferry de Versailles, à 15 ans. En 1995, Jean-Benoît et Nicolas collaborent désormais sous le nom de Air et le duo s'impose en 1998 avec « Moon Safari », album rétro-futuriste qui le propulse au sommet de la musique électronique. Un style « en apesanteur » qui fait son succès, confirmé un an plus tard par la composition de la bande originale du film « Virgin Suicides » de Sofia Coppola. Après huit albums et une tournée anniversaire en 2016, Air remonte sur scène à l'occasion des 25 ans de leur incontournable premier projet, accompagné d'une réédition. Jean-Benoît Dunckel et Nicolas Godin sont nos invités.  La France, vice-championne du monde de ventes d'armes : Cocorico ? La France cartonne à l'exportation, mais dans un domaine bien particulier : celui des ventes d'armes. Selon un récent rapport publié par le SIPRI — l'Institut international de recherche sur la paix de Stockholm —, l'Hexagone a dépassé la Russie pour se positionner à la deuxième place des plus gros vendeurs d'armes au monde, grâce à une augmentation de 47 % sur les périodes 2014-2018 et 2019-2023. Cette industrie est principalement portée par le Rafale, l'avion de combat français devenu best-seller en Inde, en Égypte et dans les pays du Golfe. Les pays européens, quant à eux, préfèrent se tourner vers les équipements américains qui représentent près de 55 % des importations. Cette situation de dépendance à l'égard des États-Unis rend de plus en plus nécessaire le projet d'une industrie de défense européenne : à l'horizon 2030, la moitié des équipements militaires commandés par des États membres devraient être fournis par des Européens. Signé chez Records Makers, ce musicien californien, partisan d'un disco-funk aux positions farouchement marxistes, entend réveiller notre conscience du prolétariat. « D'ici cinquante ans, ce sera une question de vie ou de mort. »« Je ne dirais pas que je communiste : je soutiens les classes ouvrières et prolétariennes qui souhaitent un changement radical. » Novembre 2019, on découvre la vidéo d'All power to the people, le dernier single en date de Cola Boyy, 29 ans, étonnant partisan d'un disco-funk politisé originaire d'Oxnard (Californie) signé par les Frenchies de Record Makers (Air, Sébastien Tellier). Dans une classe de CE2 où tous les élèves sont vêtus de rouge, le musicien tient le rôle du prof' prompt à enseigner les façons « d'écraser les fascistes » et distribue les écrits de Lénine, Mao, Frantz Fanon ou Che Guevara, sous des portraits de Karl Marx ou de Fidel Castro, en incitant les mômes à contester « les loyers trop élevés », à « filmer la police » et, euh, à prendre les armes pour « se défendre eux-mêmes ». Et le chanteur à la voix nasillarde de lever le poing, entouré de kids auxquels il est promis de bientôt « marcher sur le pouvoir porcin ».Un drôle de coco, donc, qui fut à la sortie de son premier EP, Black Boogie Neon (2018), l'un des invités de nos Nuits Zébrées. Mais qui se cache sous la capsule de Cola Boyy, dont le pseudo provient de son goût, enfant, pour la boisson gazeuse la plus capitaliste de la planète ? Un certain Matthew Urango, qui eut la malchance de naître handicapé, plombé par une malformation de la colonne vertébrale. À 2 ans, il se fait amputer d'une jambe et, depuis, porte une prothèse, tout en souffrant d'une capacité pulmonaire réduite de 25%. Triste ironie, l'homme a un frère jumeau tout à fait valide. Et ce jumeau est Blanc, alors que Matthew est métis, ce qui n'a souvent rien d'un avantage aux yeux de la société.« Un handicapé est constamment stigmatisé. Mon seul rêve de gamin était de devenir comme les autres. Mon look me permet de me sentir fier dans ma différence. » Assez stylé, vêtu de pattes d'eph', de polos chics et de chemises seventies, Cola Boyy milite aujourd'hui au sein de l'asso Todo Poder Al Pueblo, qui soutient les droits des immigrés surexploités dans les champs de fraises d'Oxnard. « Je crois dans le travail coopératif, dans la prise de possession des moyens de production par les travailleurs et dans le rôle de l'État. J'ai des critiques envers l'URSS, mais je trouve que ce fut une expérience inspirante, avec plus de bon que de mal. »Proche de Myd, de Nicolas Godin ou de Devendra Banhart, avec lesquels il signa ces derniers mois de beaux duos, Cola Boyy entend réveiller nos convictions. « Dans cinquante ans, l'activisme sera partie prenante de ton quotidien. Tu n'auras plus le choix, question de vie ou de mort. Les conditions générales seront devenues si tendues entre les travailleurs et les patrons que le combat sera inévitable. Ce sera la révolution, vous voyez ? Pas une balade au parc. Ou un barbecue le week-end. Ou un post Instagram. Ce sera la peur, la vraie. Continuez à occuper les rues. C'est ça qui va transformer la société. Pas le dernier pantin de la bourgeoisie. Italian composer Ennio Morricone was famed for his film scores but his work straddled jazz, pop, psychedelia as well as the avant-garde, influencing bands as diverse as Air and Metallica. Ennio Morricone left behind some 500 scores for both film and television. The theme tune to Sergio Leone’s spaghetti western The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is undoubtedly one of the most renowned. “Just 10 seconds into one of Morricone’s soundtracks, you know it’s him, you know which film it’s from, you can see the pictures,” said French composer Jean-Michel Jarre in the wake of the Italian composer’s death on 6 July. To recreate this feeling of the American far west, Morricone added on drums, some flute, and of course the "cry" of a coyote. The trademark whistling came courtesy of Spanish guitarist and whistler Curro Savoye, who now lives in the south of France. The two men never met, but Savoye was "the" whistler on the vast majority of Morricone’s work. Mais commençons d’abord par un état des lieux. Passionné de sons, Nicolas Godin est avant tout un amoureux d’instruments avec lesquels il entretient une relation très forte. Il possède une quinzaine de basses qui répondent à ses différents besoins. Une vocation de bassiste qu’il s’est découvert par nécessité. "Concrete & Glass" est un album concept qui a pour origine le projet "Architectones" de l’artiste contemporain Xavier Veilhan. EDM, IDM, and paying actual money to watch people behind turntables and/or a laptop is discussed. Daniel gets his riot grrrl gear on and discusses Sleater Kinney's 1997 masterpiece, Dig Me Out. Erich's Mid-Year Kicker Pick from the 1997-1998 era will be as elliptical and retro-futurist as our listeners might expect.

Desde que empezamos esta temporada hemos escuchado muchas y muy variadas piezas musicales, pero nos hemos dado cuenta que la mayoría son del Siglo XX. Por eso hemos hecho una selección de temas de 2015 y 2016, algunas de ellas de discos con apenas dos meses de vida. En el episodio de esta semana escucharemos composiciones de Rodrigo Leão, Federico Albanese, Ólafur Arnalds, Yann Tiersen, Nicolas Godin, Enya, Vangelis y acabaremos felicitando el cumpleaños a Ennio Morricone, que cumple 88 años.

Lo que EEUU y UK habían logrado con el grunge y el brit-pop ellos lo hicieron bajo el término de Electrónica, French House, Downtempo, Trip hop, Ambient, Chill out o New Wave. "Hacemos música para después de una noche de fiesta" Con temas como "La Femme D'argent", "All I need" o el existoso "Sexy Boy" consiguieron que el mundo moviera la cabeza a ritmo francés.
