The Building BITE hosts Chris Epps, LEED AP and Mike Diercksen, CRIS, welcome back Cheri Hanes, CRIS, LEED AP, who is VP, Head of Innovation at AXA XL. We begin the episode by discussing the various stops along Cheri's professional career where she began to recognize her passion for sustainability and innovation as a driving force in her work. Now, as head of innovation at AXA XL, Cheri guides us through her own views on the current state of the industry, along with the work she and AXA XL are doing to elevate and drive the industry forward. At the end of our conversation, Cheri leaves our audience with three key takeaways. 1. Start With The “Why”: There are many new and exciting technologies entering the market, however, we should always be asking ourselves one fundamental question “What are we trying to accomplish and who are we trying to accomplish it for?” Clearly defining your goal with the chosen technology will help to increase company buy in and should be done early and often. 2. Bring Diverse Team Members To The Table? It is important to cast a wide net when seeking input for your AI implementation. By inviting a diverse group, you can gain greater insight into various use cases where AI can be implemented to help both your core business as well as your support staff which leads to an enhanced work product. 3. AI Is Not Going To Wait For You To Be Ready: We are in the here and now, so if you are not already thinking about how to best implement AI, you are likely behind. The good news is that these changes do not have to be grand sweeping changes. Cheri advocates that companies begin by looking at, and potentially amending, their Internet and Social Media Policy to include AI as they are so closely tied together now. To learn more about how you can better prepare your firm for the opportunities ahead, listen to our full podcast episode with Cheri on “AI In Construction, Brave New World, or Old Hat?” Please like, share, and subscribe to this podcast!

San Francisco is also steadily losing cafes and restaurants, and nearly a third of its offices sit empty.“It's never an easy decision but it was time,” a company representative wrote in a statement. “There are a number of reasons I'm sure but really it was our smallest location and there's just been a shift in business plan/direction over the last few years. Episode #153: Work Song   (Song starts at 2:24) We are heading back in time on this episode, way back to 1986 when I wrote 'Work Song'. This was song #11. At the time. I was working in a music shop - a short stint, as it turned out. I really wasn't cut out to do the 9 to 5 thing. 'Work Song' is a statement to that effect. I recorded a version live for this episode. It was nice to sing and play this one, after all these years. It brought back so many memories. I was young then. Determined to take my music somewhere, already committed to living a creative life. In the lyrics there's a line: ‘If you choose to live by the clock, it gives you no time for love' . It pretty much summed up the idea that we'll miss all the special moments &  life will just pass us by if we get lost in some pastime (a job) that we are not passionate about. This thought came to me loud and clear back then. I thought ‘Hey, I think I'll write a song about this idea, and so the the lyrics took shape. A few Weeks later, I was trying out a brand new keyboard (one of the perks of the job). It was a Korg DW8000. It was a beautiful sounding keyboard, with lots of inspiring sounds. As I pushed the buttons, selecting the preset sounds, I improvised little pieces . One of these riffs struck me as quite strong, so when I got home that night, I sat at my piano, recalled the riff and wrote it down. Then I remembered the lyrics I had written recently. They were sitting on the piano, waiting. As usual, it all came together quickly. Before I knew it another song was born. So I duly wrote into my exercise book. Little did I know one day I'd be recording a podcast episode about it, having now written 800+ songs. The songwriting is driven by passion. Well, it is for me. Songwriting is not something I wonder whether or not I'll carry on with. It's part of each week. It sneaks up on me after a few days and a melody comes through my fingers from somewhere. I spent a lot of my life being a piano man at night, and a songwriter in the day time. I don't regret a minute of it. I wrote my memoirs of my piano man days and I have a work in progress version up on a blog, which I stumbled across today (I mention this on the episode, so, as promised, here's the link. The Hazy Line - Memoirs of a Piano Man I also mention the songs 'Old Hat in The Sun' and 'Don't Live Your Life In One Day' (a song completely improvised/composed live a previous episode): Old Hat In The Sun Here's my weekly blog with the lyrics and the painting of the week too. www.petepascoe.wordpress.com It's a creative life. It's a rich life. I really enjoy sitting at my piano, with the mic, talking about the creative process. I love entertaining, it's what I do. So this podcast is an entertaining weekly look at how it feels, how I go about writing a song - and you get to hear a new song each week. .... like 'Work Song'. Hope you enjoy the episode. Here we go…

At the same time the National Party was announcing its plan for boot camps and ankle bracelets for young offenders from the age of 10, a 14-year-old Christchurch boy was in the Youth Court admitting 48 criminal charges after a spate of car thefts and assaults in the city last month. You'll remember all the stuff that was going on. Some this kid was involved in, some he wasn't. And the stuff he was in court admitting to yesterday was over-and-above other charges from earlier in the year. So, for all intents and purposes, he is a kid out of control, isn't he? And he's the type of kid the National Party has in its sights with its boot camp and ankle bracelet policy. Because he's 14, this guy would be too young to go to boot camp but he would probably end up wearing an ankle bracelet. We got in touch with the National Party to confirm that but they said they don't comment on specific cases. But I think it's safe to assume that this boy would be at home with a bracelet around the ankle if National policy was in place. Now, is it just me, or have the photos of Christopher Luxon that the media have used in the past 24 hours made him look like a bit of an enforcer? No coincidence - but then, I don't imagine he will be too upset. After all, he and Mark Mitchell want to look tough on this one because they know people have had a gutsful of crime. Not surprisingly, National's political opponents and others are saying that boot camps and ankle bracelets aren't the answer, and they're accusing National of living in the past and not just rehashing old policy, but repeating a policy or an approach they say hasn't worked previously. But, of course, the people who don't like what Luxon and Mark Mitchell have come up with don't seem to be able to come up with an alternative of their own. And they're pointing to statistics that suggest previous attempts at this sort of thing haven't stopped young people from offending again - and so National's opponents are saying ‘case closed' - it hasn't worked before, so it won't work this time around either. But my view is that sometimes you just have to give things a go. And when it comes to criminal offenders, you're never going to come up with the perfect solution. I know people talk about wraparound services and holistic approaches, but when you've got businesses being done over night-after-night, people's cars being stolen night-after-night, houses being broken into every day and every night, teenagers at the malls getting hidings, people being knocked of their bike by idiots in stolen cars - when you've got all that happening, surely it's worth giving things a go. Because, at the moment, we have a youth justice system that could quite reasonably be called a dismal failure. That's because the majority of kids that go through the Youth Justice system re-offend. So, obviously, we cannot claim that sticking the really bad ones in these facilities has been a huge success, so why not try something else? Chances are not even boot camps and ankle bracelets will get them some of these kids on the straight and narrow. Because some of them are so damaged and desperate, that they are beyond help. But, surely, even if the idea of a boot camp sounds old-school, or like something out of the 1950s, or not liberal enough for the 21st Century, what's the harm in giving it a go? And sure, the idea of an ankle bracelet on a 10-year-old does sound extreme - but the kids that would be wearing these things would be extreme cases. Again, why not give it a go? Because even if it stops one kid from re-offending and avoiding a lifetime of crime, it's worth a shot, isn't it?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Jay starts this talk with the heart-breaking news that Steve Pieters has Stage 4 cancer. It's scary. It's sad. And we're giving all of our love and prayers to Steve. If you pray, please pray for Steve. If you don't pray and praying just feels like talking to the ceiling, please talk to the ceiling for Steve. All prayers and everything you can muster. We love you Steve!! The rest of the talk Jay focuses on Jesus and how he turned everything upside down. Unorganized Religion. Jesus turned the world on its head with the things he said, the love he showed, and the company he kept. He tore the division between us and God. If there is no curtain separating us from God, then why are we forcing naivety onto ourselves and onto others? Shouldn't we be the least naïve? But if we build a Christianity of naivety–to the point where we can't think for ourselves–we fall into group think and our convictions stop being our own. If Jesus tore the curtain that separated us from God, why are we so eager to add separation back? How can we separate ourselves from others and cut them off and call it love? God is love! The church isn't a building, it's not a tradition. It's us! The people. If our faith is built around buildings and big communities and traditions, is it really faith? Is it really something that is infinite? If the church is keeping you from loving people…then leave! Go some place where you can love and love radically! This talk was given on October 16, 2022 in Seattle, Washington.www.facebook.com/revolutionchurchmnwww.revolutionchurch.com/donatewww.youtube.com/revolutionbroadcasting@jaybakker@revolution1994@revolution94 Hosted on Acast. Episode #82: Old Hat In The Sun / Life In One Day    (Songs start at 6:18 & 22:07) Hi there. I'm writing these show notes immediately after recording this episode (which is what I normally do) ... Although I also normally listen back through as the recording 'bounces', ready to be put online as a stereo file.  This time, I've stopped the tape. Just wanting to really soak up this moment and try to tell you how I'm feeling.  I'm feeling pretty good. Unexpectedly, I ended up writing a full song, in the moment (words and music) in this episode.  The song Old Hat In The Sun was written by a younger me. At 21, the lyrics are about wanting to get it ‘all sorted out', ( my life, the world ) by … oh, by the time I turned 22. Ha. I wrote this song in 1986, it's song #6 in my songbook.  Fast forward now to 2021 and I feel like over these last few years I've been letting go of some old dreams, redefining some new ones. Ahh, the voice of experience (and I'm sure if I'm around in my 90s and look back I'll have a chuckle about me writing this, making plans, now)... Anyhow, this letting go was the subject of this week's blog post if you would like to check it out, the lyrics to this week's song - and this brand new song are there: www.petepascoe.wordpress.com I'm as passionate about my music as I ever was. I hope to still be singing and playing my songs in my 80s. Why not.  In this episode, as I say, I ended up writing a song as if I've travelled back in time, with a message for my younger self: something along the lines of: ‘slowing down a bit might not be a bad idea' It's been so busy again this week, creatively, maybe that's something I still haven't learned.  I just feel so strongly that each day, each week, that I'm alive and breathing, I want to create good stuff. So while I'm on here earth, that's what I'm doing. That's what I'm up to here: fun, entertainment and information. Ok, so it's a ‘two for one' deal this week. Also, join me in my primary school class. Then, at 17, in UCLA as an exchange student (Akio was the trumpeter from Japan, by the way) & then as a 21 year old thinking about ‘it all' - including the old man with an old hat in the sun.  Hope you enjoy this one episode much as I enjoyed recording it.

Temple University's Master's Program!Hi everybody, I'm Brian Clapp Director of Content for WorkinSports.com and this is the Work in Sports podcast…Could you imagine being five years out of college and starting your own sports marketing agency? Forget even being that specific – could you imagine being five years out of college and trying to run anything completely by yourself?I'll admit, I was totally co-dependent in my 20's. I needed someone else, thank you Sandy Malcolm if you are listening, to steer me, guide me through my career decisions, help me focus and understand the larger business around me.Not Zac Logsdon. This guy – that's my Jon Gruden impression, how was it? This guy, graduates from University of Oklahoma with a degree in advertising and starts working for a big advertising firm. I'm guessing he missed sports, so he left his big firm after two years and starts heading up the graphic design team for his Alma Maters athletic program.Three years later – eh, I think I can do this myself – let's start an agency from scratch. Are you insane?I've always thought I was a pretty motivated and confident dude, but I would not have had the ability to do what Zac Logsdon has. But then again, starting an agency isn't the same as owning a successful agency. Many go under in a short time frame… but not Zac's.Fast forward 17 years and not only is Old Hat Creative still thriving in the sports industry, working with college athletic programs across the country, but he's also written two books, hosts a podcast and every once in a while…sleeps. Here's the fun part – in this interview, we aren't just going down memory lane discussing how he got where he is, sure we'll do some of that, but primarily we're talking about the now. Understanding fan behavior, marketing to today's generation of sports fans, the direction of the sports industry and more…After this podcast is over, if you are anything like me, you'll probably subscribe to Zac's podcast Winning is not a strategy, and buy one of his books… I did, and I'm not great at endorsing competing podcasts…it takes a lot for me to tell all of you to listen to someone else so you know I mean it!Here's Zac Logsdon…Questions for Zac Logsdon, Old Hat Creative Sports Marketing Agency1: Before we get into the finer details of sports marketing, fan behavior and your career, we'll start with a little more of your personal story – the when and why. When did you figure out you wanted to get into the marketing side of sports… and why did this become your passion and goal?2: You were an advertising major and after graduating from University of Oklahoma started working at one of the largest advertising firms in the region – Ackerman McQueen – how much did this experience at a major firm help form you and your personality in marketing and advertising?3: Pretty quickly you turned that big firm experience into a role with the Oklahoma athletic department as Director of Graphic Design...and then wham, just 5 years after graduating college started your own marketing agency, Old Hat.How often did you cry yourself to sleep in the early days of starting your own agency?4: Getting clients I'd imagine has to be the hard part – what was your approach to getting and growing your client base? And did your Oklahoma connection kick things off?5: Marketing is such a broad term – there's the creative, the activation, the tracking and conversion, the communication and copy writing side – the list keeps going! In your experience, do you think it's better for someone to have a specialized focus and talent, or is it smarter to be a jack of all trades?

Zac Logsdon, CEO of Old Hat, joins Rob Cressy to talk about why winning is not a strategy to get fans to attend sporting events. What can be done to improve the fan experience to make attending a game more attractive than watching at home? Why can’t teams offer last minute discounted tickets to ensure the stadium is always filled? If you were the CMO of the Tampa Rays, what would you do to try and get fans to attend games? Why is marketing often not seen as a necessity? - In each episode of The Sports Marketing Huddle, Rob Cressy, Founder of Bacon Sports, gives a forward-thinking perspective on some of the hottest topics in the world of sports marketing and then gives actionable advice on how you can implement it into your business. Our goal of the podcast is to create the best sports marketing podcast and take The Sports Marketing Huddle up to #1 on iTunes. I have a joke about Gennady Zyuganov, Head of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, but odds are you will never hear it. Even though Gennady Zyuganov is a funny name. To western ears. And this has nothing to do with the podcast. Sort of. Two pieces, one about Barack Obama telling jokes, one about George W. Bush having a one track mind. I don't ordinarily do topical material. The danger being that people will forget things like that the Nobel prize was given out to a man running a war or that the president of the USA hired a male escort to sit in the press gallery and ask questions in briefings, or that a previous candidate for president blamed a hurricane on "the homosexuals, feminists, and the ACLU," acting in concert to make it rain. Those kind of things get lost in the mist of time. Are washed away with the years. Get drowned in a bathtub of memories. Also a suggestion that you buy the album Adaptations to a Modern Age by Scott Steven Erickson. Even though I sing in the background.
