Stefan Molyneux responds to a listener's inquiry about the effectiveness of his philosophical framework, Universally Preferable Behavior (UPB), in addressing the challenges facing the West. Stefan clarifies that UPB is not a panacea but a rational construct requiring active engagement from individuals. He draws parallels between UPB and established scientific theories, emphasizing that it does not intrinsically change minds but serves as a basis for ethical reasoning. Stefan argues that UPB remains a robust framework for secular ethics, having withstood rigorous scrutiny over nearly two decades, asserting that some actions are universally non-preferable. Additionally, he discusss the necessity of a reasoned ethical system in an age driven by empirical evidence, contending that faith-based moralities cannot suffice. Ultimately, Stefan advocates for a commitment to spreading rational ethics and engaging in critical discussions as essential for fostering positive change.SUBSCRIBE TO ME ON X! https://x.com/StefanMolyneuxFollow me on Youtube! https://www.youtube.com/@freedomain1GET MY NEW BOOK 'PEACEFUL PARENTING', THE INTERACTIVE PEACEFUL PARENTING AI, AND THE FULL AUDIOBOOK!https://peacefulparenting.com/Join the PREMIUM philosophy community on the web for free!Subscribers get 12 HOURS on the "Truth About the French Revolution," multiple interactive multi-lingual philosophy AIs trained on thousands of hours of my material - as well as AIs for Real-Time Relationships, Bitcoin, Peaceful Parenting, and Call-In Shows! You also receive private livestreams, HUNDREDS of exclusive premium shows, early release podcasts, the 22 Part History of Philosophers series and much more!See you soon!https://freedomain.locals.com/support/promo/UPB2025

We're thrilled to offer a bonus episode here on our feed, where we shout out an awesome new podcast created by friends of Judaism Unbound. It's called Aderaba: Jewish Studies on the Contrary and it's co-hosted by Rafe Neis – a past teacher in Judaism Unbound's UnYeshiva – and Gilah Kletenik. We're featuring their second episode, entitled What's Bad about Being in the Image of God, which connects to the mini-course that Rafe taught with us, entitled Untangling Tselem Elohim (the image of God).------------------------------------------------------Aderaba: Jewish Studies on the Contrary Description: Join Rafe Neis and Gilah Kletenik as they explore big questions through a diverse range of Jewish texts, ideas, and cultures. The conversations are sometimes clarifying but always contrarian. Come for their uncommon insights, stay for their critical takes on the fields of Rabbinics, Classics, History, Philosophy, Critical Theory, and more!Episode 2: What's Bad About Being in the Image of God? Description: Hosts Gilah Kletenik and Rafe Neis discuss the multifaceted and often contradictory Jewish notion that humans are created in the image of God. They explore the historical context of this idea in ancient near Eastern cultures and its interpretation through Jewish and Christian philosophical traditions. The hosts delve into the dark side of this notion, including its use in exclusionary ideologies, the hierarchies it inducts, and its potential pitfalls. They also debate whether alternative theological frameworks better address contemporary issues like climate change, ultimately suggesting a nuanced approach that balances the ideal of human dignity with a broader ecological responsibility. You can subscribe to Aderaba via Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or anywhere else podcasts are found.-------------------------------------------------------Head to JudaismUnbound.com/classes to check out our up upcoming courses in the UnYeshiva. In this episode, we talk about Alfred Sohn-Rethel's audacious and influential text Intellectual and Manual Labor. A fellow traveler of the Frankfurt School, Sohn-Rethel argued that the social activity of commodity exchange involves a set of real abstractions that actually precede and give rise to the structure of human consciousness and its capacity for mental abstraction. This really puts Kant in his place: the supposedly pure reason of the transcendental subject is historically conditioned by the fact that at some point people started trading stuff with each other. It also means that after the communist revolution succeeds we'll have a totally new set of a priori categories with which to synthesize experience. That's worth looking forward to!leftofphilosophy.comReferences:Alfred Sohn-Rethel, Intellectual and Manual Labor: A Critique of Epistemology, trans.
