“Quítame un kilo antes de darme un caballo” Esta famosa frase de Colin Chapman parece que a los modernos diseñadores de coches se les ha olvidado. Si levantase la cabeza no se moría… ¡se suicidaba! Recuerdo escribir pruebas a principio de los 90 criticando el peso de coches de 4,5 m de largo y 1.300 kg. Todos los modelos de esta lista, como mínimo, duplican ese peso… Menos peso es una ventaja a la hora de acelerar… pero también a la hora de frenar y, más aún, a la hora de abordar las curvas. Para un coche o una moto no hay nada mejor que la ligereza y lo notas cuando conduces. Un coche ligero ni necesita un “super motor” ni unos “super frenos” ni una suspensión sofisticadísima y neumáticos anchísimos. Y siempre, siempre, en curvas enlazadas será más rápido y agradable de conducir que un coche más pesado. Es cierto que hoy día, con la red de carreteras que hay y con la persecución a la velocidad y a lo que antes llamábamos “conducción deportiva” pues, salvo en circuito no vamos a sacar todo el partido a esta virtud. Además, las cada vez más estrictas normas de seguridad, los cada vez más eficaces sistemas de seguridad activa, la cantidad de motores eléctricos que lleva un coche, incluso para subir o bajar el volante, el equipamiento cada vez más amplio, con lucecitas por todas partes, butacones que incluso dan masajes y luego, para colmo, la llegada de las enormes baterías para coche electicos o simplemente híbridos…. Todo eso suma kilos, kilos y más kilos. Acabo de grabar un vídeo de las motos más pesadas para nuestro canal hermano “Moto1Pro” y me inspiró este. Como en las motos os digo que esta lista puede estar sujeta a cambios, porque está hecha con datos de 2023 y porque en función de la fuente y del equipamiento, los kilos pueden subir o bajar… casi siempre, subir. Vais a alucinar. 10. Con 2.745 kg: Rolls-Royce Phantom. Arrancamos fuerte, con un coche de casi 2.8 toneladas, casi medio millón de euros, motor V12 biturbo de 6,7 litros y 571 CV… ¡ni es un SUV ni es eléctrico! 9. Con 2.770 kg: BMW i7. Casi el más ligero y casi el más barato. Por no mucho más de 100.000 € te puedes comprar este BMW de 660 CV. 8. Con 2.785 kg: Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Segundo Rolls de la lista… que no será el último. Por medio millón de euros puede comprar este coche que tiene el mérito de llegar a esas 2,8 toneladas de peso sin recurrir a las baterías… 7. Con 2.810 kg: Range Rover PHEV LWB. Se trata de todo en Range Rover por lujo y equipamiento, SUV más que todo terreno en mi opinión e hibrido enchufable y por tanto… muy ecológico y relativamente asequible, por 160.000 € puede ser tuyo. 6. Con 2.811 kg: Volvo EX90 Performance Ultra. Con un precio de no mucho más de 100.000 € estamos ante uno de los coches más económicos de la lista… todo es relativo en esta vida. 5. Con 2.815 kg: Mercedes-Maybach GLS. Lo de este modelo me hace gracia es que se trata de un “Mild Hybrid” … de coña que este coche de 2,8 toneladas y un motor térmico de 557 CV tenga etiqueta ECO por llevar un motorcito de 48v y 22 CV. Y cuesta “solo” 220.000 euritos de nada. 4. Con 2.828 kg: INEOS Grenadier. Con un precio no muy por encima de los 100.000 €, comprado al kilo, es de los más baratos de la lista. 3. Con 2.845 kg: Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV. Es que tiene todas las papeletas para ser un mastodonte: Es un SUV enorme y eléctrico. Y de esta lista no es de los más caros, por algo menos de 150.000 € puedes tener este coche en tu garaje… 2. Con 2.906 kg: Cadillac Escalade. El mayor mérito de este SUV de Cadillac es que su sube al segundo peldaño del podio siendo un modelo con motor térmico, fabricado con el mejor y pesado acero “Made in Detroit”. Por unos 370.000 € puede ser tuyo. 1. Con 2.965 kg, el vencedor es: Rolls-Royce Spectre. El primer Rolls 100x100 eléctrico y que cuesta cerca de 400.000 €… ¡hay que tener ganas! Pero hay gente para todo… hay lista de espera, imagino que de gente que tiene más dinero que afición por el mundo del motor. Conclusión. En una lista de 10 coches que son los más pesados hay 7 SUV, 4 Rolls Royce y solo 4 100x100 eléctricos… lo cual ha supuesto para mí una sorpresa, pero negativa… porque no podemos consolarnos diciendo que los coches de ahora son pesados porque son eléctricos… ¡son pesados, aunque no sean eléctricos! Coche del día. Siempre que hablo de peso elijo como coche del día al Lotus Super Seven… pero no me voy a repetir y en homenaje a Chapman voy a elegir un Lotus, pero el Elan, un coche que en su versión de 1989 contaba con un motor de 1,6 litros, 16 válvulas, 167 CV y un peso de… ¡1000 kg! Y hubo periodistas que dijeron que para tratarse de un Lotus era pesado… ¿dónde están ahora esos periodistas?

The company's first BEV bears the name Spectre, which is fitting with its quiet approach. The Rolls-Royce Spectre packs a pair of electric motors that rely on the 102 kWh battery pack for energy. This ultra-luxe cruiser rides on optional 23-inch wheels, which actually cost the Spectre range. Welcome to the best month on the calendar as we give a spirited UAW strike update, peruse the list of new vehicles over the next 18 months, and review the very first show at the site of the NADA Show opening party at the Las Vegas Sphere.Weekend tensions were rising between the UAW and the Detroit 3 as 7000 additional workers went on strike. Ford CEO Jim Farley alleges the union is holding automakers "hostage" with unreasonable demands, stating, "A bad deal would threaten midsize or expensive larger vehicles." and that if the goal was a historic contract, that was already on the table. UAW President Shawn Fain countered by accusing Farley of "lying about the state of negotiations." Fain emphasized, "Bargaining's always a two-way street," and criticized the companies for frequently shifting their stance. The dispute has now engaged approximately 25,000 workers. Nyle Maxwell, owner of four Stellantis stores and chairman of the Stellantis National Dealer Council, voiced concerns about the ongoing strike's impact on inventory and the supply chain. He's been stockpiling fast moving parts and highlighted the potential crunch on Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator inventory. Maxwell emphasized, "any additional strike targets are just going to cripple the entire supply chain." He urges "more strategic thinking and less bluster."Flashback to 2017: Automotive News released its first annual Future Product Pipeline listing all plug-in vehicles headed to market. The Chevrolet Bolt was a fresh face and Elon Musk was touted as a champion of a progressive audience as he announced his ambitious promise of a $35,000 Tesla Model 3 made headlines. BMW BELIEVES TESLA HAS LOST ITS UNIQUE SELLING POINT - With 936,172 cars delivered in 2021 and 310,048 units only in the first quarter of 2022, it's safe to say Tesla is doing better than ever. However, BMW Group sales chief Pieter Nota believes Elon Musk's company has lost its USP - “Tesla had a unique selling point for quite some time. That's over.” - Later this week, the i7 will receive its world premiere as a response to the Mercedes EQS and Model S. The end of 2022 will bring us the iX1 to serve as the EV equivalent of the next X1 compact crossover. Come 2023, the smaller i5 will follow as an electric variant of the next-generation 5 Series Sedan. The greater BMW Group is going to roll out the MINI Countryman EV and Rolls-Royce Spectre next year. - For the time being, the i4 and iX are the commercial hits for the Bavarians. FORD F-150 LIGHTNING EPA RANGE NUMBERS EMERGE: UP TO 320 MILES - The long-awaited EPA range and efficiency numbers for the upcoming Ford F-150 Lightning all-electric pickup finally emerged, but not yet on the EPA's website, but via Monroney Stickers, shared on f150gen14.com forum. - According to four Monroney Stickers, shown for Pro (SR and ER), Lariat (ER) and Platinum (ER) versions, Ford achieved the 230-mile target for the SR and beat the ER target by 20 miles, achieving 320 miles. - Pro 18"(SR): 230 miles (370 km)(ER - fleets): 320 miles (515 km) - Lariat 20"(SR): N/A (potentially the same as Pro SR)(ER): 320 miles (515 km) - Platinum 22"(ER): 300 miles (483 km) - An interesting thing is that the ER battery versions (aside from Platinum) get 320 miles, compared to 314 miles of Rivian R1T. On stage for a CERAWeek energy conference discussion streamed live March 10 from Texas - The moderator asked: How are things going with the Mustang Mach-E? - "It's totally sold out. We're just completely overwhelmed. I mean, we have the chip supply thing, that makes it worse. But we're completely oversubscribed," he said. "Actually, in all of our electric vehicles, we are sold out for a couple years now. So we're very fortunate that we made that choice to go into those passion products." - "We were lucky. We got to watch from a distance what happened at Tesla and the first generation of leaders like BMW and GM. They went first, and Nissan, and Tesla won and the generic products didn't," Farley said. - "What we learned from that as a management team, which was actually not popular in the company, was that early adopters of zero emission wanted the good stuff," he said. "They don't want generic homogeneous small cars that are unremarkable. They want great vehicles. They want aspirational vehicles ... And so we said, 'let's electrify the icons.' " - The automaker has been so overwhelmed by orders for its award-winning Mach-E that it has had to stop taking orders for the 2022 model because many are sold out.Not all versions, but many. - When the 2023 Mach-E order bank opens, deliveries are scheduled to begin as soon as late 2022. While Ford expects 2022 Mach-Es to be delivered to customers before the new model year begins shipping, global supply chain and semiconductor chip issues could continue to disrupt the delivery schedules - In January, Ford announced it would nearly double production capacity to 150,000 Lightning pickups per year at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn to meet "soaring customer demand," - Within 24 months, Ford will have the global capacity to produce 600,000 battery electric vehicles annually with plans to move toward annual production of more than 2 million EVs by 2026." - Van Conway, president of the Young Conway Group, a turnaround consultancy for businesses based in Detroit, said executives routinely get consumers excited when products are so popular they're in limited supply."Ferrari sells out every year, too," Conway told the Free Press. There's a view from every angle when the driver pulls the vehicle off the street to turn around. - All of the production panels appear to be on the body, so the covering is the only thing hiding the vehicle's design. - In front, the Spectre has split headlights that include LED strips on the upper section. Because EVs don't need the same airflow as combustion-powered vehicles, it's not clear whether the large grille is actually functional. - There are vertically oriented taillights on each corner of the rear. - A recent rumour suggests it would share components with the BMW iX M60 electric crossover. If this is accurate, then a coupe could make as much as 610 bhp - In the iX M60, this setup gets the crossover to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometres per hour) in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph (250 kph). Its 111.5-kilowatt-hour battery pack gives the BMW a WLTP-estimated range of 352 miles (566 kilometres). This part of the plan involves finding a private partner to help with the installation of the stations at places like neighborhood parking lots and garages. TESLA'S V11 UI CHANGES ARE RECEIVING STRONG CRITICAL FEEDBACK FROM DRIVERS - Reveral Tesla owners have shared strong criticisms of Software V11's user interface, particularly with how it made accessing some important functions more difficult compared to V10. - A good number of these complaints could be seen in the r/TeslaMotors subreddit, a community of over 1.48 million users. Over the past few days alone, numerous Tesla owners have gone on the subreddit to share their displeasure at the UI changes that came with V11 — to much agreement among the online group's users - Tesla owners are not happy about the fact that some functionalities such as driver profiles, seat warmers, trip information, save dashcam, and tire pressure (to name a few) now require more taps to access than before. Some Tesla owners have gone as far as to state that since some features now require an extra step to access, their vehicle could end up being less safe. - Tesla owners noting that the icons in the new update do not have the same uniform, polished look as those that were used in V10. Others noted that the position of information such as the vehicle's speed had regressed as well, as the driver's hand could end up covering the speedometer - The fact that there are icons for Tesla Arcade, Toybox, and Theater — which are inaccessible when the car is on Drive anyway — and none for tire pressure, trip information, seat heaters, and lights, was deemed strange as well. That is why we urgently need rapid infrastructure expansion – especially in urban, densely populated areas and over longer distances. This is also up to policymakers: Economical operation must be ensured – and, if possible, promoted – especially while infrastructure is still in the expansion phase. - Who's going to build a second charging post if the first one can't cover its costs? But, in the long run, the market has to be able to regulate itself in the interests of the customer. What we need for this are clear objectives and incentive systems. The same applies to fleet operators, to support their transition to electromobility. - We have set ourselves ambitious goals for electromobility next year: We aim to more than double sales of our pure electric vehicles compared to this year. In 2022, we will be focusing on two more approaches that will make charging even more attractive. Outside of the initial teaser photos released by Rolls-Royce earlier this year, we haven't seen any other details of the electric Rolls. That's changed today, as one of our spy shooters captured a test Spectre both on the pavement and on a flatbed. - The most intriguing angle of view is directly from the front. We can just make out that this Rolls appears to be wearing a version of the upcoming stacked headlight look previously spied on soon-to-come BMW models like the next-gen 7 Series and refreshed X7. - One of the last intriguing items of note is the angle of the rear tire when the driver has the steering wheel at full lock. It's not an extreme angle of rear-wheel steer, but the rear wheel does appear to be turned in the opposite direction as the fronts. Specifically, the government aims to build an optimized and balanced energy management system, allowing real-time monitoring, online analysis, and dispatch for regional energy information. The government will push forward the mutual interaction between electric vehicles and intelligent grid, forming an intelligent and efficient charging infrastructure system with ample charging piles. It makes sense then that both would end up getting premium-level Plaid tri-motor speedy goodness. - the first Model X Plaid SUVs have made their way into the hands of the public. - Of course, the new car has a landscape infotainment system which is a big upgrade over the old portrait-style version. It's also got the rear-seat screen that controls media and climate controls. - It's important to note that while not discussed in the video, there are clearly some hilariously mismatched panels. Most notably, the Falcon-wing doors look like they settle too low on each side. This causes them to not line up with the front doors or the rear quarter panels. - We know that the Model S Plaid has had some major braking problems. It seems to go without saying that the much heavier Model X is likely to have similar if not worse issues reigning in its 1,020-horsepower. Deliveries of the two EVs are now underway, albeit in small numbers, but Rivian has more than 70,000 preorders to work through. - As of December 15, the CEO wrote, “we had approximately 71,000 preorders for the R1T and R1S in the US and Canada.” Of that, “the large majority” opted for the Adventure Package trim, with Rivian's Large pack battery. - Rivian also has a Max pack battery, which costs $10,000 more but promises 400+ miles of range. However that configuration – though available for reservation-holders to select – wasn't expected to go into production until later in 2022. Even if consumers sign a new contract on the remaining days of this year, they won't be able to acquire the car in 2022, but in 2023. There are cases where the price of a used car overtakes the price of a new car or even gives up subsidies to purchase as shortage of the supply becomes more prevale - Front-line branches are waiting 13 months for Kia EV6, 12 months for Genesis GV60, and 8 months for Ioniq5 from contract to shipment are required. The actual delivery date may change again depending on the status of subsidies by local governments. An official from the Kia branches said, "The EV6, which uses a lot of semiconductors, has been delayed for more than a year, so it is difficult to confirm when it will be shipped if you sign a contract now. We only received an official letter from the head office telling us to announce change in delivery schedule from time to time to avoid customer complaints.” - As the delay in shipments becomes a serious issue, the price of a used car are even exceeding that of a new car.
