Dana and Tom with 5x Club guest, Peterson W. Hill (Co-Host of the War Starts at Midnight podcast) discuss La Dolce Vita (1960) for its 65th anniversary: written and directed by Frederico Fellini with Ennio Flaiano, Tullio Pinelli, Brunello Rondi, and Pier Paolo Pasolini, music by Nino Rota, cinematography by Otello Martelli, starring Marcello Mastroianni, Anita Ekberg, Anouk Aimee, and Yvonne Furneaux.Plot Summary: Set against the glamorous backdrop of Rome in the 1950s, La Dolce Vita follows Marcello Rubini, a jaded journalist, as he drifts through a series of decadent encounters over seven days and nights.Torn between the shallow allure of celebrity culture and his yearning for deeper meaning, Marcello is drawn into the chaotic lives of socialites, artists, and film stars. As he navigates lavish parties, fleeting romances, and existential crises, the film explores themes of decadence, disillusionment, and the search for purpose in a world consumed by hedonism. The film's iconic imagery, including Anita Ekberg's midnight wade in the Trevi Fountain, cements its status as a cinematic masterpiece and a poignant reflection on modern life.Guest:Peterson W. Cinema60 is back with a ghost guest in order to highlight some notable opinions on film. Dwight Macdonald, a celebrity film critic of the ‘50s and ‘60s who is now more remembered as a cultural critic and political pundit, had a lot to say about the dumbing down of high art to appeal to middlebrow tastes. Championing films that challenged audiences, he famously took on Alain Resnais' Last Year at Marienbad as one of the most difficult films to ever be embraced by American audiences. While he does not consider the film one of his favorites, he admires its techniques and ambitions. He would use it as a touchstone through his career to describe the type of film that pushes boundaries of what cinema can do and engages on a higher level. In this episode, Bart and Jenna respond to Macdonald, muse on the actual difficulty of such a film and use his word to illustrate their own mission statement. The following film is discussed:•Last Year at Marienbad (1961) L'année dernière à Marienbad Directed by Alain Resnais Starring Delphine Seyrig, Giorgio Albertazzi, Sacha PitoëffText discussed:• On Movies (1969) by Dwight McdonaldOther films mentioned:• Citizen Kane (1941) Directed by Orson Welles Starring Orson Welles, Joseph Cotten, Dorothy Comingore• Children of Paradise (1945) Les enfants du paradis Directed by Marcel Carné Starring Arletty, Jean-Louis Barrault, Pierre Brasseur• Hiroshima Mon Amour (1959) Directed by Alain Resnais Starring Emmanuelle Riva, Eiji Okada, Stella Dassas• Breathless (1960) À bout de souffle Directed by Jean-Luc Godard Starring Jean-Paul Belmondo, Jean Seberg, Jean-Pierre Melville• La Dolce Vita (1960) Directed by Federico Fellini Starring Marcello Mastroianni, Anita Ekberg, Anouk Aimée• Jules & Jim (1962) Directed by François Truffaut Starring Jeanne Moreau, Oskar Werner, Henri Serre

Our summer travels continue this week to Italy, where Federico Fellini is our guide. The title translates to “the sweet life” in English, and that’s what star Marcello Mastroianni seeks in Rome, over the course of seven days. Mastroianni is a tabloid journalist, and we follow him through seven stories, during the film. Anita Ekberg is the female star probably most known to American film fans. La Dolce Vita ranks among Fellini’s best, and the movie also gives us a glimpse of modern Italy, a generation removed from World War II. Shelly Brisbin with Micheline Maynard and Dr. Drang.

Jackie and Greg join the swinging parties of 1960s Rome for Federico Fellini's LA DOLCE VITA. Topics of discussion include the film's decadence, sex and celebrity as the new religion, how it marked a transition for Fellini from the more grounded films of the 1950s into his more bombastic work, and the amount of visual detail he packs into the film to help tell his story.#39 on Sight & Sound's 2012 "The 100 Greatest Films of All Time" list.https://www.bfi.org.uk/sight-and-sound/polls/greatest-films-all-time-2012#60 on Sight & Sound's 2022 "The Greatest Films of All Time" list. https://www.bfi.org.uk/sight-and-sound/greatest-films-all-timeCheck us out on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sceneandheardpodCheck us out at our official website: https://www.sceneandheardpod.comJoin our weekly film club: https://www.instagram.com/arroyofilmclubJP Instagram/Twitter: jacpostajGK Instagram: gkleinschmidtGraphic Design: Molly PintoMusic: Andrew CoxEditing: Greg KleinschmidtGet in touch at hello@sceneandheardpod.comSupport the showSupport the show on Patreon: patreon.com/SceneandHeardPodorSubscribe just to get access to our bonus episodes: buzzsprout.com/1905508/subscribe

In the year 1960, Federico Fellini premiered La Dolce Vita and changed cinema forever. That sounds like hyperbole but it's really just fact; it was the film that not only spawned a thousand knock-offs, both contemporary and legacy, but launched Fellini's own career into the stratosphere. Known for his dream-like films, fantastical visuals, introspective storylines and iconic Nino Rota scores, the ‘60s truly defined his unique voice as a director. In finally tackling Fellini, Cinema60 has stared into the face of God and emerged with the heaviness that comes with the gaining of great knowledge and the irrevocable loss of youthful innocence. In this episode, Bart and Jenna spend almost 30 minutes breaking down La Dolce Vita in great detail and then happily move on to the rest, because they're all great too. Sure, the two heavy hitters here cast a long shadow over Fellini's extensive body of work and over the entirety of ‘60s arthouse cinema. But the others that we cover are treasures in their own right – shining even more brightly due their comparative underexposure. I turns out, watching each of these films in order tells a rather gripping story of both the evolution of Fellini as an artist and of the self-immolating ambitiousness of the decade itself. The following films are discussed:• La dolce vita (1960) Directed by Federico Fellini Starring Marcello Mastroianni, Anita Ekberg, Anouk Aimée• Boccaccio '70 (1962) Segment: "Le tentazioni del Dottor Antonio" Directed by Federico Fellini Starring Anita Ekberg, Peppino De Filippo, Antonio Acqua• 8½ (1963) Directed by Federico Fellini Starring Marcello Mastroianni, Anouk Aimée, Claudia Cardinale• Juliet of the Spirits (1965) Giulietta degli spiriti Directed by Federico Fellini Starring Giulietta Masina, Sandra Milo, Mario Pisu• Spirits of the Dead (1968) Histoires extraordinaires - segment: "Toby Dammit" Directed by Federico Fellini Starring Terence Stamp, Marina Yaru, Salvo Randone • Fellini Satyricon (1969) Directed by Federico Fellini Starring Martin Potter, Hiram Keller, Max BornBonus Topics:• Spirits of the Dead (1968) Histoires extraordinaires - segment: "Metzengerstein" Directed by Roger Vadim Starring Jane Fonda, Peter Fonda, Serge Marquand• Spirits of the Dead (1968) Histoires extraordinaires - segment: "William Wilson" Directed by Louis Malle Starring Alain Delon, Brigitte Bardot, Katia Christine• Fellini: A Director's Notebook (1969) Directed by Federico Fellini Starring Federico Fellini, Giulietta Masina, Marcello Mastroianni

Invité : Antongiulio Panizzi, réalisateur du documentaire The Girl in the Fountain, diffusé le 25 janvier 2023 sur Ciné+ Classic.

Don't turn a deaf ear on the big doings as Blixx is baack and ready to rumble in CDST's "Twenty Dwarves took turns doing arm bars in the wrestling ring" show. No need to worry... there's more than enough Game 7 seventh heaven to go around as our panel of prognosticators debate the merits of a 1/2 dozen or so compelling matchups in the NBA and NHL playoffs, including Boston vs. the Bucks, Boston vs. the Canes, Dallas vs. the Suns, and Dallas vs. the Flames... hey just try and enunciate that few times. That plus our guests Love and KC Fockler of the Huntington Beach Surfrider Foundation who helps us get in touch with our inner surfer, more Met musings from Mr. Miranda, and of course the racing update (Pal Joey Lagano, how could you!). Plus, a next door neighbor with a body that just won't quit on "Married with children", remembering the greatness of The Great One, and no Stephan Edberg, but plenty (and we mean plenty) of Anita Ekberg.
Ancient & modern, fascist & fashion, beans & whine, asexual & Anita Ekberg –This episode is everything that Rome stands for: contradictions & surprises. This time we'll take you out to EUR and the second Colosseum of Rome. Yes, it's true, there are two Colosseums, one circular and one square shaped – to keep them apart. We'll focus on the square shaped Colosseum, that was constructed by the fascists in the end of the 1930's to host part of the 1942 World Fair of Rome. Why a world fair? Why so many arches? Why was Anita Ekberg 30 meters tall in a Fellini film? All these questions will have their answers (and many more will arise). Erik also presents for you the spring combination of broad beans and cheese, and Marta talks about canoe sports in the fake lake of EUR.

På engelska kallas detta skådespel a flurry of flashes. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

....While attending The University of Texas at Austin, Mansfield won several beauty contests, including: Miss Photoflash, Miss Magnesium Lamp, and Miss Fire Prevention Week. The only title she refused was Miss Roquefort Cheese, because she believed it "... just didn't sound right." Mansfield accepted a bit part in a B-grade film titled Prehistoric Women (produced by Alliance Productions, alternatively titled The Virgin Goddess) in 1950. In 1952, while in Dallas, she and Paul Mansfield participated in small local-theater productions of The Slaves of Demon Rum and Ten Nights in a Barroom, and Anything Goes in Camp Gordon, Georgia. After Paul Mansfield left for military service, Mansfield first appeared on stage in a production of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman on October 22, 1953, with the players of the Knox Street Theater, headed by Lumet. While at UCLA, she entered the Miss California contest (hiding her marital status), and won the local round before withdrawing. She also won many small and local beauty pageants, including Miss Photoflash, Miss Magnesium Lamp, Miss Fire Prevention Week, Gas Station Queen, Miss Analgesin, Cherry Blossom Queen, Miss Third Platoon, Miss Blues Bonnet of Austin, Miss Direct Mail, Miss Electric Switch, Miss Fill-er-up, Miss Negligee, Nylon Sweater Queen, Miss One for the Road, Miss Freeway, Hot Dog Ambassador, Miss Geiger Counter, Best Dressed Woman of Theater, Miss 100% Pure Maple Syrup, Miss July Fourth, Miss Texas Tomato, Miss Standard Foods, Miss Orchid, Miss Potato Soup, Miss Lobster, Miss United Dairies and Miss Chihuahua Show. Early in her career, her prominent breasts were considered problematic, and led to her losing her first professional assignment—an advertising campaign for General Electric that depicted young women in bathing suits relaxing around a pool Emmeline Snively, head of the Blue Book Model Agency, sent her to photographer Gene Lester, which led to her short-lived assignment in the General Electric commercial. In 1954, she auditioned at both Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. for a part in The Seven Year Itch, but failed to impress. She also auditioned at Paramount for Joan of Arc—a project that was never completed—and failed again. That year, she landed her first acting assignment in Lux Video Theatre, a series on CBS (An Angel Went AWOL, October 21, 1954). In the show, she sat at the piano and delivered a few lines of dialogue for $300 ($3,000 in 2016 dollars[6]). In 1953, editor Hugh Hefner began publishing Playboy and the magazine became popular because of its early Playmates, such as Mansfield, Marilyn Monroe, Bettie Page and Anita Ekberg.[49][50] Mansfield posed nude for the February 1955 issue of Playboy, modeling in pajamas raised so that the bottoms of her breasts showed. This increased the magazine's circulation and helped launch Mansfield's career. Beginning in February 1955, she formed a long-standing relationship with Playboy. Shortly afterward, she posed for the Playboy calendar, covering her breasts with her hands. Playboy featured Mansfield every February from 1955 to 1958, and again in 1960.

I vårens första sändning medverkar Sherlock-stjärnan Benedict Cumberbatch. Programledare: Saman Bakhtiari Producent: Nina Asarnoj
Larry tells tales from the start of the Million Martini March and shares signs of the end of the world. We hear about Larry and the crew's trip our for hot shaves, martinis, chicken and waffles. Then he talks about a commercial he saw while watching the Jets game that upset him to the very core of his soul. By the end of this episode, you'll realize the huge difference between "and...?" and "and by..." Also, Larry waxes nostalgic for the likes of Anita Ekberg and Anne Jeffreys. Then we hear about what you DON'T want to hear at a silent auction. That's right, honey. You're a winner. Quote of the week: "That's the and. AND I'm calling security."

Sveriges ambassadör i Sydkorea, Lars Vargö, gästar Nordegren. Det är 40 år sedan Anita Ekberg badade i Fontana di Trevi i Fellinis "La Dolce Vita". Idag åker hon båt tillsammans med bl a Natalia Kazmierska, dagens bisittare. Vi hoppas på en detaljrik rapport.
